okay prof, okay course, but the course is kinda hard.
The course is really fast paced, so if you slack off, catching up is a nightmare. Tests are application-based so memorizing the textbook is not enough! You have to practice. Seguin is fair when she warns about the course being tough. She's helpful 1 on 1.
She's like a carbon copy of [Dame] Judi Dench seen in the James Bond movies. Yeah so there you go.
she's the worse you can ever get. she just reads off lecture notes from other professors as if no one can READ and surely she doesn't know what she's talking about. but too bad it seems like no one can get rid of her (cuz she's the only one teaching) GL
Never took acc before. Before the first term test, I attended every single lecture, then got B. After that, I never went to class again and managed to get A in the course. The final exam is tricky.
she is so good! best prof you can get in first year!
good prof. in first yr~
GOOD TEACHER BUT HARD..
Explains material well and knows a lot about subject. Helps students beyond regular class time in extra tutorials and office hours. Tests are very fair.
people from H.S with a good understanding of accounting breezed through this course, many people who have never taken accounting before really struggled. at the beginning of the year, she says on avg, pp who have never taken accting before get higher marks on average then those who have. LIES!!!!
A really good prof...I had no accounting background but did well because she teaches very clearly. Tests are a little challenging, but if you know the concept you should be fine.
very helpful
doesnt seem to know what shes talkin about or how to use chalk
people from H.S with a good understanding... ( from a few post before) I second that!
i agree...i had no accounting background and i got 66 which was was 12% lower than my 2nd lowest course, and 22% lower than my best course. Ppl with background, i knew, were having a much easier time. But all in all im just glad its over and i dont have to worry of it anymore.
this lady sucks
I had no accounting before and got 85 with little studying. At the university level, if you can't keep up with Seguin, I don't think you belong here. The concepts are easy and she even does textbook problems IN CLASS! Always do her MC's last. Some of her MC's can very well be a short answer Q that takes up 20% of the test.
Terrible!!! She gave something we never learned on the exam~~ well.. maybe because I have never learned accounting before.. In general, she is not helpful. I dont see the point of going to her class. The textbook does a much better job on explaining the concepts!
She is strict, fierce, and the no-nonsense type. She doesnt seem to have much enthusiasm for what she's teaching, but she does teach clearly and responsibly. To do well, make sure you read before going to class and do all the assigned questions. The course is very predicatable if you do the necessary work.
If you've taken accounting before, the course is fairly easy. Just do the assigned work, and you'll get a good mark. Lectures are really boring though.
Better than Connie REED!
I was scared as hell about accounting before going into the course but with this prof. I ended up really appreciating it. Very clear in explaining. Very predictable course ie. you KNOW what's going to be on the tests. The course is made to be accounting for people that are DEFINITELY not going to be accountants so not so much detail and technicali
She appears to be rather intimidating but is actually pretty clear when it comes to teaching the material. The first half of lecture, she regurgitates the text, the second half, she takes up homework problems. Very helpful! Read the text and do the assigned work! Go to tutorial and keep on top of things. Tests and exams are EXTREMELY difficult!
She's not very enthusiastic so you don't feel like ever going to class. Her tests are super hard! And she's quite intimidating.
Good traits include loud and clear voice (she doesn't need to use any sound device for a large class), and a very logical way of explaining things. Bad traits? I can't think of any aside from her lack of enthusiasm which I don't really mind at all. Great prof overall. I'm sure she'd become a drill sergeant if she joins the army.
you HAVE to keep up with your work!! I didn't have any accounting experience.. so I had to spend way too many hours on that course to get a 70%.. but it feels worth it at the end! The tests are mega hard.. nothing ever balances.. so make sure you know ur concepts inside out!
the midterms were fairly easy and straight forward if prepared ahead however the exam was extremely time-consuming and somewhat tricky. the prof answers emails fast. is not a mark booster due to the final exam!!!!!
The most boring course ever.(MGT120).She has no enthusiasm, and makes accounting boring, and makes it seem useless, even though its actually very important. Her tests are fair, but are extremely tricky, and hard.Shes always there to help though.unless u have a thing for accounting or are passionate about it, dont expect more than an 80.
You dont need a HS background to do well in this course.Attend the lectures because most of the theory part of the exam comes from the lecture and slides.Practise previous years question papers as MC is often repeated.Regular work is required..and she often provides 'flashbacks' of the last class during her lecture. She emailes back really quickly.
personally, i dont like accounting, but that doesn't make her to be a bad prof ^^. If u are new to accounting, u need to catch up her pace, because she is a bit quick. Tests are harder than average level, so u have to study.
She has done a good job in teaching this first year accounting course. Fair course!
Way too many hours are required for the course! I had an 88 on the first midterm, and an 80 on the second. Ended up with a 63 after the final exam, after solid studying.... Disappointed thats for sure. Watch out for the last exam...
She was terrible. Basically she was an audio player for textbook. Does not know how to teach without referring to text book. If you know some accounting and wanting to advance, do not take it with her. She will take the fun out of accounting and your life.
She's a really nice person, but absolutely terrible at teaching this course. She has little to no actual knowledge of the material and is in constant need of her textbook or her notes to answer basic questions (sometimes of material that she just covered 5 minutes prior to the question).
EASIEST COMMERCE FIRST YEAR COURSE EVER!! MAKE SURE YOU DO THE READINGS AND YOU'RE GOLDEN...lectures and tutorials are useless but text is important.
This teacher is garbage, she tries to rush her lectures n finish the material in one hour, n then does easy examples from the book for another hour. As a student who had not taken account before, reading the textbook is a must, i was doing good like 70+. But the tests n exams r HARD, the exam dropped me to 60. Now i hav to take this course again
She seems a bit too all work, no play sorta thing. She honestly goes a bit too fast, I had an accounting background but I wonder what people who have nothing can keep up with her. You can ace all the problems done in class and tutorial, but believe when I say this, mid terms and exams -NOTHING LIKE THEM. Totally different and was tough..
She explains the requirment very clearly. For mgt120 make sure to read the text. She is a nice lady I would say.
Good prof. Do all the homework go to every class and tutorial and you should have no problem. The final exam was so easy i think i got over 90% on it. Can easily get 4.0 GPA in this course
Good prof, explains things clearly and always helpful if you need a hand. I had no accounting background but left class feeling like I understood stuff..keeping up with the reading and online quizzes is very crucial for a good grade in this course!! Work hard, and it'll pay off
Very strict prof. Goes really fast through the material. I aced all the quizzes but did HORRIBLE on the midterms - nothing like them and the exam was SOO HARD.
She is an excellent professor!! Easy midterms, but watch out for the finals.
Just attend every lecture, tutorials are somewhat useless in my opinion. She is helpful when asking questions but her answers are somewhat unclear. Overall everyone I know got a 90+ in her course and I received a 97 - Should have been a 99 if TA marked my first midterm properly.
She is really good. Manage to get 99 in this course by just reading the book. tutorial is useless.
I believe this professor makes an effort to teach well, however she is one of the worst professors I've ever had at UTM. She is very strict and completely heartless when it comes to small mistakes. Make sure you don't defer tests for her MGT120 course or you will have to do a presentation in front of her and prof Baily, with no rubric to follow.
Catherine Sequin is a good prof, I like that she goes through accounting examples in the lecture. It facilitates my learning and I can ask questions if I don't understand something.
I found this course to be quite easy. The lectures are pretty long though. Reading the book, and doing past tests and exams are ways of getting a good grade. Test questions are much more different and difficult than class discussion and tutorial problems. I think doing exams and past tests provide better practice for tests and exams.
She is a great professor. Very clear and to the point. Her lecture slides for the entire term are already there for you from day 1 of the course. Never miss the readings or forget to do the homework. VERY IMPORTANT TO PASSING. Tests are not as easy as one would think so study and also, if you've taken accounting before, don't be overconfident.
worst professor ever.
most ruthless, insensitive, and cold professor in the university. Has no warmth or care for students.
She doesn't like to answer questions during lectures, instead ridicules students for not reading the textbook and already understanding it. She is monotone and does not care about her student's grades. She marks extremely difficult and gives no part marks for even trying. Also, accounting is difficult as is, and she's not friendly or approachable.
She really wants her students to succeed, she may go a little fast but if you keep up with the homework and readings you will definitely get a good grade. For tests, practise using past tests.
She is an amazing professor, gives many chances for students to ask questions as she teaches. Teaches for half the lecture and takes up textbook problems for the other half. Tests, so easy, simply make an income statement and balance sheet. She can seem mean but is actually very caring and super helpful during office hours. Posts all powerpoints.
She goes through the material quite fast but if you keep up with your readings and you keep practicing, then it should be an easy class to ace. She gives you so much room to practice, and is very straightforward with what she expects from the class. She answers all questions asked during the lecture, and she does not leave something unexplained.
Horrible. She doesnt give any constructive criticism, is condescending and would steer clear away!!
Professor Seguin has a distinct style when she teaches. Her classes aren't very dynamic but rather structured. You are expected to read the book, make notes, and do the problems. MyAccountingLab helps as well. TAs have no office hours for this course, so you'll have to reach her for help. Overall, she's not difficult but be ready to do your share.
Easy class if you have done accounting in high school this is an easy 4.0 don't listen to the negative posts, you will be more than prepared for this. If not just read some of the text book to refresh your memory. However, I do agree that her lectures are very boring but that's because I've taken accounting in high school.
This is honestly the one review you need to listen to. Her lectures weren't that bad she honeslty broke down concepts nicely. Read the textbook!! She will put little fluff from chapter 1 to throw you off. Her office hours are useless seek the TA's and do all the practice! This course is about basics, master those and you're good. Do past midterms!
The pacing of her lectures isn't the best; she also likes Dollarama. The resources are there for you to do well; make sure to do her sample problems to practice for exams. Some of the questions are taken straight from there. Prepare some notes before class since she doesn't spend too much time explaining things in the textbook.
Experienced Prof who posts all her slides and lecture audios online! So you can afford not going to class! If you're taking accounting for the first time, highly recommend going to class and tutorials regularly! Good Luck!
Not the prof for me. She doesnt let you in if youre late and she just repeats the textbook. The exams are not fair and overall just a really bad experience for me
She may not be the most likeable professor personality-wise, but she's very fair in her testing and doesn't mind you asking questions for clarification. As long as you do your work and attend tutorials, it's definitely an easy 4.0. (Especially if you did high school accounting, it's extra easy!)
SHE WAS VERY DIFFICULT, MADE ONLINE EXAMS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND NOT AT ALL INTRODUCTORY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE WHICH THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE, NO TIME TO SOLVE EXAMS, TOO MANY READINGS,VERY DIFFICULT QUESTIONS, NOT MUCH SUPPORT AND UNDERSTANDING PROVIDED. UNFAIR EXAMINATIONS.
Tests are so so hard. Try to choose Anthony as your TA because he's awesome and really interesting. Try to do every practice question given so you can answer the test questions quick and efficiently.
Bland personality, has been a rude to me in office hours, been very unhelpful and fast paced especially if ur taking accounting for the first time. I stopped going to her lectures because itll only leave u confused so read the book instead. Her online test locking is EXTREMELY horrible. test sucks . She was VERY unhelpful with the Corona situation
So unhelpful and not willing to compromise at all. Does literally NOT listen to the student, stopped replying to my emails at one point. The way this course is set up also sucks, there's no room for error, nothing is drooped except for a quiz worth like 2% of your grade, so you really can't mess up. Its too much for an intro course!
She was nice overall, but would just read off her PowerPoint every lecture. There was not a lot of practice given out, and part marks were not a thing on tests
The course just feels like it tricks you every time. You think you know the material but she will come up with something for the quizzes and tests that were never mentioned to you before. Things that she told would not be graded were also on the final exam. She will only drop a quiz worth 2% so no room to mess up and recover in this course.
I don't know what she's afraid of but she won't let you see your term test, midterm or final exam. You can ask her questions about it but good luck trying to remember what the question looked like.
worse prof ever. made online exams 100x harder. nothing like the practice tests, etc... feels like she doesnt even care about teaching. very inconsiderate. THIS COURSE DOES NOT FEEL LIKE AN INTRO. EXAM WAS HARDER THAN MAT135/136?????
I honestly dont understand why the professor have to do this to me. Im just trying to get an B+ for a 100 level course. I did all the 200 practice questions provided, however the actual questions in the exam are totally dissimilar to the practice questions. Just take MGAB01/02 and stay away from this course. sincere advise.
I enjoyed accounting till I took her class. I think she might have forgotten that she's teaching an introductory course. For some reason we're in person but she still decided to have both term tests online (which were a complete disaster might I add). I'd rather watch paint dry than attend her lectures.
Professor Seguin has 0 care for students and get irritated when asking questions. Acts like we should know accounting front and back and shames you for simpler questions. I had very personal matters going on at home and went to seek support and after communicating with her, I felt even more hopeless. PRACTICE QUESTIONS ARE NOTHING LIKE THE EXAMS.
Tests can be unfair. Doesn't seem nice to people. She just speaks too fast.
Probably the most average prof. Lectures are boring but not a nightmare. She doesn't really teach the material that well. I think that the textbook is your best bet.
The Prof really doesn't care about the students, I was struggling she didn't help
Just no.
I don't mind Catherine as a professor - she gets more hate than necessary. At times, she can come off aggressive when asked questions, but she is quite attentive during lectures. She has study module's posted on the course page that are excellent resources for studying. There are limited office hours, but she is better at responding to emails.
Honestly she is very knowledgeable and an amazing professor, this isn't an easy class but if you put the work into it then it all fits together. She definitely cares about her students and wants them to succeed, and she is very sweet and caring I would definitely take another course with her again
She and my TA both denied me assistance when I was struggling with an assignment.
She just made the worst final
Great prof with a clear course structure. It was really easy to grasp all concepts, especially if you've taking high school accounting. The speed and clarity of grades was not ideal, we got an assignment back 2 hours before the final.
Not accommodating professor. Tricks students with difficult questions while teaching easy ones in class. Requires students to buy her book/online materials to submit quizzes, which could have been provided for free.
Professor Seguin is not that bad in terms of teaching. However, the online and spreadsheet assessments are ridiculous in their strict formatting, to the point where students are forced to pay more attention to the formatting than actually learning the content. The course builds rapidly and is a real time crunch. Would not recommend for elective.
Not that bad
She had a very hard style to follow she wrote most of the examples on paper with messy hard to read hand writing and never explained where she got the numbers from. There was also no feedback on assignments so you would not know what you got wrong.
Professor Seguin is one of the most caring professors I've ever met. It's clear that she really cares about her students, and she is very accommodating and wants you to succeed. She's the reason I was considering going into accounting, and I am very privileged to have been her student.
too difficult
I've done Accounting for Grade 11-12 before doing MGT120 and I found this course relatively easy. However, with Prof. Seguin's teaching methods, I am unable to understand since she talks too fast, and she explains it as if you should already know the content (as if ur dumb). If you ask her a question she seems uninterested, snappy and unhelpful.
shes SO boring, the lecs are like decent ish, but they are very long no break so good luck with that, the content is alright its not too too bad just do the tutorials for understanding and you will be fine, she def knows the material well but kind of just expects you to know and remember the most random fact about the inclass work, but shes fine
Underrated prof. Considering I didnt take accounting in high school, I understood the lectures pretty well. Her lectures can be boring but she genuinely makes an effort to make sure you get the content and actually is very nice to those who ask questions. During breaks she's happy to answer questions from what she taught
