Serrano goes through her PowerPoints way too fast and does not give enough time to effectively explain the information. There are many rules and exceptions that she does not even state, and is incapable of answering questions in a form the students can understand. Her lectures are poorly structured and she jumps around between the topics.

IMO the best you can getOChem isn't meant to be an easy course, but Dr. Serrano makes it a fair challenge. Class is flipped classroom, so you must put in work outside of class. For what ochem is, serrano makes this a very fair class. Staying on top of the lecture videos, homework, and practice is extremely important, and studying in advance likewise. The exams are fair game as well, they will be mostly straight forward memorization and have conceptual things that were in the lecture vids.

Serrano is a good professor, but there's better ones. My friends have profs that do exam corrections, retake exams, etc, and all she says is "too bad." This professor is very nice and accessible. HOWEVER, this professor does a (flawed) “flipped classroom”. You basically pay thousands in tuition to self teach organic chemistry which is just not right and ineffective. Not only are you self teaching, but the exams are DIFFICULT. If you can, take another professor. If you can't, get a tutor.

She rushed through everything including lectures and office hours instead of paying attention to individual student needs. It was “Flipped Classroom” but no one read the textbook outside of class. Due date were always random for assignments and Worksheet was due at 11:59AM for some reason. Would not recommend for someone to trying to learn ochem.

You're expected to read the textbook beforehand to prepare, but it didn't help me at all so I stopped reading it. The lectures are VERY faced paced, so you have to go to SI or office hours because class time is not enough to comprehend anything. Exams are difficult, but there is EC. She's accessible outside of class if you need help.
