Ms. Stitt is a new teacher, but she's great. I've always struggled in math and I took her for math 75 and I finally understand it. She goes step by step and is by far the best math teacher I've ever had. 5 exams, no quizzes. If you struggle in math, take her! She will help you so much!
passionate about teaching Loves the material and knows it well Makes sure you learn Not easy
Definite thumbs up. Teaches very well, but you still have to put in the work.
Straight forward, listen and do the work. Great personality!
Took her for Math 121. The way she talks makes you feel like you're in the third grade again. Worst math teacher I've taken at DVC. She doesn't explain anything in depth, rushes lecture, falls behind her own schedule. Every time I asked a question after class she made it clear I was wasting her time. Lots of homework, easy tests. Study the book.
She's the coolest teacher by far. She breaks everything down for your understanding. Overall, tests are easy.
Man she's such a great and easy (in a positive connotation) teacher! Her tests questions are literally picked right from the text book, so if you do your homework, you're bound to get an A. Also she goes out of her way to help you, should you need it! If she was teaching Calc next semester, I'd take her again! I highly recommend her! GLHF
She gives a respectable amount of homework, plenty of chances for extra credit, and is very fair in grading. Anyone who stays after class to ask her questions she is happy to help. Her tests are based on homework questions, so if you do that you can do the tests. I'd take her again for Precal if I could.
Although I got a B, her summer 121 kicked my bum. So much homework and test were tough since it was my first time seeing trig functions. She was pleasant to be in class with.
Willing to go over any/all homework problems on the board, and clarity is phenomenal. She goes step by step for those of us who have trouble with math. Obviously it's not an easy class but she's always there for you and wants you to pass! Would take again if she were teaching Calc.
She is an excellent instructor! Even if you are an experienced math student, she helps you learn new ways of looking at math and numbers. I plan to find out what classes she is teaching next semester.
Ms. Stitt is AWESOME! I finally understand math and it is all thanks to her and how well she explains things. She never makes anyone feel stupid for asking questions and she will go into as much depth as she can to help you understand. I am so bummed that she isn't teaching the next math class that I need. If I can take her again I will!
I have avoided College for the longest time due to my attitude toward this subject. from day 1, Catherine had me in love with numbers and highly motivated to learn more. I was actually.. EXCITED to come to class. She makes the class fun and enjoyable and really wants her students to enjoy the subject and takes time to do so. See you in the Fall!!!
she doesn't give credit for hw which I think is a fault in teaching regime. quiz every week seems to have me feeling anxiety all the time. She grades the exams heavily. She's nice and high energy but her office hours are only 1.5 per week this semester which is not helpful when there are 10 people in there.
Catherine was the best math teacher I ever had. By a mile. She is young and enthusiastic, and you can tell she loves teaching. And she's really good at it. She's a little heavy handed with the homework but prepares you well for it in class so its not hard, just takes some time. No droning from the textbook, she makes it fun.
Fantastic teacher. Gives quizzes every week there is not a test, but they, and her tests, are very easy. Only complaint is that she tends to be a picky grader. She assigns HW, but doesn't collect it, so no easy points there. Very clear and very helpful. Offers extra credit. Final was cumulative, but easy. Take her, I wish she taught calc2.
Amazing teacher! Very helpful and patient.
I took Calc 1 without taking precalc and was terrified going in because math wasn't my strong-suit. However, Catherine is a WONDERFUL PROFESSOR and she really helped me succeed and believe it or not, i actually enjoyed her lectures and ended up receiving a B. But, be prepared to work for your grade.
So much homework -- 2 sections due each class. Depending on the section, it can be really time consuming. Assigns the odd problems on the textbook. Exams: does not give you a study guide, just tells you to review your homework. Allows 3x5 notecard Homework: may or may not collect it In class: just basically reads off her own notes
Hahaha good luck! I am a straight A student, but this class was extremely difficult for me. If you are taking this to satisfy your IGETC, my advice: don't.
Not a good teacher at all. She makes ***frequent*** calculator mistakes, as the class points it out to her. Ugh. The worst thing is that she doesn't give out an official study guide before a test! 5 exams--16% each. Lowest score gets dropped. I have so much hatred towards her. Never take her. Barely going to pass class. Only has 1hr office hr
I used to love math, but after taking Prof. Stitt's class, I started hating math. I went to her class almost every day, took down notes, studied with people in the class, and still kept getting F's on her tests. I had to drop her class because I knew nothing was going to change. If you are trying to boost your GPA, avoid this class!
Honestly, she is the most caring person ever. She will help you when you need it. Work hard and you will get a good grade. Attend office hours whenever you can, even if it's just one hour, you should be fine. She is so so nice and extremely sweet. Study, work hard, and do your homework.
If you are a slacker and do not take an initiative to learn the material then you probably wont like the class but if you try from the start you will be ok. She is very sweet and clear about the material new at stats but everything was great, the only thing I hope she changes is having to solve problems by hand and calculator
Stats isn't easy subject, do the Hw and if you do not understand see her from the start I am an A/B student and this was not difficult, this is college, students should stop expecting a Final Review Guide, the final was easy if you did well from the start. Also don't show up to class MOST of the time SHOW UP EVERYDAY, how else do you expect to learn
Horrible teacher. Gives loads of homework. Barely any extra credit. Avoid this class if you want to pass.
If you miss one class, you are screwed. She packs in so much in one class period, makes mistakes of her own (students actually correct her from time to time. It's embarassing - mainly calculation mistakes). 5 exams + cumulative final exam. Barely offers extra credit. She teaches from textbook. Exam questions are from textbook.
Moves onto new sections quickly and leaves the class confused. Gives out examples for us to try in class and spends 10 to 15 minutes with random students instead of addressing the entire class when were all having problems with the same problem. Relies heavily on mymathlab for homework and that site is absolute garbage. First time bombing math.
Good at explaining things when you have questions, nice lady thats ready to help. She can move a little fast in lectures and you go through a few chapters a day but just slow her down and ask your questions and she'll elaborate. Doesn't put grades in canvas at all which is frustrating bc you never know how something will affect your gradePassionate
Very enthusiastic and approachable. Don't be afraid to go to office hours for help on anything. During the beginning of the year we had a quiz almost everyday on little bits of each section, but the amount went down towards the end. Doesn't make you feel bad if you get a low grade on your quizzes. Homework is not mandatory but do at least some.
A very kind professor that is full of passion towards her students and math, if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask her. There would be a lot to learn in class and at home but you take away a lot after the semester and she will also help her students be ready for next level of math.
A complete disaster. I am an international student fluent in 192 and I got a B. If you dont do it exactly how she wants, you wont give you any points. She doesnt let you retake quizez nor tests you missed even if you were sick! Very nice but but doesnt know about the subject and wont help you. As the rest of the individalist Americans I guess
Catherine is the best 192 math teacher you will find at DVC. She cares about her students and is always happy to help. She gives a lot of homework but it is helpfull and a good review. Her quizzes and exams are similar to the homework problems you do. Just show up to class, take notes, do your homework and you are good to go.
Catherine is the best math teacher I have taken at DVC. She drops one your loswest exam and quiz scores. She gives a lot of homework but it is a good review for you. Show up to her class take notes, do your homework, and you are going to pass her class with an A. I 100% recommend her.
Not that great. She compares math to little kids. Im trying to learn math y you telling me theory not by comparing it to other things. Very hard exams and too much homework. She also dosen't give out a good intermediate break and its hard to leaver class early without losing points. Try someone else.
She is good at explaining concepts. She really cares about her students and is really approachable. She provides students with an extensive amount of resources. She does give a little more than average hw but it prepares you very well for the exams and for future math classes. If you could take her, go at it.
Prof. Stitt's excitement about math is so infectious that you almost stop hating it too - almost The class was hard for me, but mostly because I struggle with math and not because of Stitt herself. She provides a lot of resources and opportunities for office hours. She genuinely wants you to be successful and will invest the time in you.
Great professor. Cares about students, wants to see them succeed. Things can get a bit hold-your-hand-ish so if you've taken Calc 1 before in high school, you might be in for a slow ride. Can be a nit picky grader, pay attention to detail on quizzes/exams.
Id taken calculus before but never grasped WHY I was doing something She breaks down the material very well, so as opposed to just memorizing what step came next, I could actually understand what I was doing and why I was doing it. She is VERY specific in her grading so pay attention to her examples to see what she is looking for on her tests.
Don't take her. Take another teacher. Trust me.
she is a great professor but she gives a lot of homework which is good thing. she teach very fast and show one example per section, she is tough for grading, attendance is mandatory, she is OK, but not professional.
You're better off teaching yourself anything than getting her help she's very vague when you go to meetings and ask for help. Her class is so test and quiz heavy. She took point away from my when I was showing my work and getting the right answers. I would not ever take this professor again. She's very nice and ditzy but her teaching needs work
if i could give her a 0 i would. By far THEEEE most difficult math class Ive taken & Im not bad at math soo... I had to drop it because she was such a hard grader and she showed no remorse while she was grading, even marking down little things like if my work made sense to my answer... 4 exams & a quiz before each exam. Pls avoid her, i beg you
shes a terrible prof, take anyone but her shes super mean and she doesnt like when people coorect her when shes wrong. her exams are n o t h i n g like the study guide. dropping her class with a W was the greatest thing i ever did in my life. take anyone . but her, i beg you
If you read any of the reviews, read this one. Shes the thoughts grader out of any dvc prof Ive ever had. Taking math 191 again after dropping her class and everyone in my current class either failed or dropped stitts class!!!! Avoid her man, its just so hard and Im good at math too so it doesnt make sense why i had an F for 4 months
I do understand why other gave such a bad overall score toward this professor. You are going to memorize lots of things in order to take test, and her lecture is speedy(maybe it was because summer class). However, she does care students' curiosity, welcome to personal questions, and lectures are informative and speedy enough to enjoy them. Loved!
Nice but grades extremely hard. Homework is mandatory but a waste of time because it barely counts for a grade. She's strict and no notes for tests.
She helps you when you need help and goes over the material you don't understand. She's really nice but her lectures are really long. She writes a lot of unnecessary things on the whiteboard while teaching which is why her lectures are sooooo long.
One of the nicest professors I met really tries to help you pass and teaches everything you need to know for the next class
If you want to pass college algebra, you'll need to practice so be prepared for lots of homework. Lecture heavy but essential to learning the material. Favors a step-by-step approach to help you build skills quickly. Tests only material covered in class. Has the patience of a saint. Give your best effort and she'll support you.
I though Stitt was an awesome teacher. She does expect you to memorize a decent amount of formulas (no notes on tests) but it's because it gets used again in later classes and shes setting you up for success. Super nice lady, cares about her students. Her lectures were organized and clear, tests were just like the hw problems.
If you are a step-based learner take this class. She is very picky about notation because IT MATTERS in math. She drops the lowest test and lowest quiz. HW is not collected/graded but if u dont do it you will see it in your grade. No XC besides dropping the lowest but if you come to class and do your work you will be fine. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND trig.
Professor Catherine Stitt, is a great instructor. If you need help, YOU NEED TO ASK. She notices effort. Homework almost everyday, but its a math class... isnt that expected. Anyone who disrespectful Is obviously is too immature to handle this course. Shes very fair, and will help you if you ask for it.
Had her class when everything suddenly changed to online in the middle of the semester due to COVID-19 and she handled the transition really well. Both for online and in-person classes, she waits for confirmation from students before she moves on to the next topic, and spends as much time as she can making sure everyone understands the lesson.
Professor Stitt was my favorite math teacher at DVC. Her lectures are a lot of fun, and make sense. She makes everyone participate and that helps a lot. She sometimes treats her students like their still kids but she means well. she really cares, but you will DEFINITELY learn from her. I was really sad I couldn't take calculus with her.
Professor Stitt has been the best math teacher I've ever had! She's very clear, makes her own notes, and will always answer any questions you have. There was nothing that ever appeared on a test that we hadn't learned. Be aware though, she gives a lot of homework. She is super sweet and understanding! I wish I could take her again.
She's definitely awesome professor I've never met before. She's really kind and always wanna assist us as much as she can! It's kinda lot of assignments because it's summer session. But one thing I could guarantee is if you follow what she says carefully, you'll be able to get good grade!
I wish Professor Stitt taught all my classes. You have to put in the work.
Professor Stitt's classes aren't for those that want to just get by knowing as little as possible. She wants to guarantee you know the material. With any math class you are not going to learn anything by just doing one problem and moving on that is why there's a considerable amount of work to do in her class.
Incredible teacher. I wish all professors were as caring and available to discuss trouble that I'm having in the course. It was a difficult course but professor Stitt was inspiring and helped my gain the confidence to keep working hard.
Math is hard for me and professor Stitt made this class so enjoyable. Professor Stitt's kindness and attitude made me want to go to class and persevere through the toughest concepts.
Def recommend Stitt, she cares about her students. I took her class twice and if she was teaching next level math, I would totally take her again! You still need to do the work, but she makes it almost effortless to go to her office hours, ask questions, she explains over and over until you understand the material. Sad to say I can't take her again
Shes really good at explaining material. Her videos are amazing. Id take her again but I didnt like that she made us learn all formulas. Im not a math major, I dont need to know it by heart and next week I wont remember any these formulas either way. Shes a little bit old schooler but very sweet and approachable. Take her! :)
Catherine is a very nice lady. If you take her class in the summer, be prepared to treat it like a full-time job. Exam every week with loads of HWs/assignments and a cumulative final. Her worksheets are so organized and comprehensive that I didn't have to use the textbook (other than for HW). Easy A/B if you put in the work but you can't slack off!
I took her this summer, which consisted of 32 mylab assignments, a handful of written hw graded on completeness, discussion post, 5 mid-terms(lowest score dropped), and a final. If you're not ready/willing to put in hard work, I'll not recommend her, but if you're then, she's a solid choice.
I took her for pre-calc over the summer and I just didn't like how you had to memorize a lot of formulas. There is also an exam where a calculator is not allowed which, in my opinion, is unfair. Homework took 15+ hours a day. No notes for the tests either. If math isn't your strongpoint, I don't recommend taking her class.
I took Precalculus over the Summer. It was too much unnecessary homework imo. Her lecture videos always had at least one mistake. It was super annoying. The tests were not too bad. She graded pretty fairly considering they were all closed notes tests. It was a lot of memorization. I thought it was tough. Some others didn't. To each their own.
If you're taking a college level pre-calculus course in the span of 6 WEEKS, you should expect to spend A LOT of time on homework. It was stressful at times but I ended up with a 98% and i'm not a "math person". We got to drop 1 Exam and the lowest 3 assignments, which was nice. The Final wasn't too bad. Catherine is friendly and encouraging.
Very helpful and supportive, but you will need to study a lot.
Amazing professor, very helpful and supportive, but you will need to study a lot. I dont recommend this class in summer.
Ok newcomers, just a heads up... I have only had Prof. Stitt for a few weeks now and I just thought I would point out that you need to pay close attention in this class. Dont get me wrong, Prof. Stitt is a great teacher.... but she makes several mistakes in her calculations multiple times a day, its almost ridiculous how many easy mistakes are made
She assigns SO MUCH HW (Math Lab$ & paper)! The way she set up her Canvas is a little extra and she is very picky about how you format your papers that you submit. You have to watch additional videos aside from lecture. She does have 24h grace period in case you have troubles uploading. Tests are w camera on both hands and paper in view. Good luck!
I honestly dont get all these bad reviews here. Yes, its hard to take such a complex class over the summer. Yes, math requires a lot of work to be good at it. This is college yall. You got to put work if you want to succeed. Stitt is really sweet and great at teaching. And btw, everyone makes mistakes, be a good person and point it out in class!
Awesome teacher! Taking this class over summer is tough. You're going to need time and put in the effort but you'll know the material well afterwards. I'm sad I can't take a class with Professor Stitt again
I haven't had a professor yet that has been as engaging and caring as professor Stitt. Math is hard for me and her being available during office hours and answering all my questions helped a lot.
This class is 85% exam based, our of 4 exams. If you aren't a confident test taker don't take her. She is good at explaining but is an extremely harsh grader. The average for the quizzes is around a 60%. A ton of homework worth negligible points.
Prof Stitt was one of the best professors I had. I will complain that the class was extremely homework heavy and she is a very tough grader on tests, she docks points unnecessarily. With that being said, she explains things very thoroughly and will make time in her office hours to go over things with you. She has definitely helped me the most.
I took this as a spring class, but we would only go in for exam days and study guides for exams were posted one week before exams, which was alright but less time to study with so much material. Homework was a heavy load which is due every W/F/Sun! Paper homework as well to much work! No extra credit, provided. And closed book exams.
There is a lot of homework in this class, and that is normal for a pre-calculus class. You have 4 exams in the semester with your lowest grade being dropped. Professor Stitt is nice, caring, and extremely accessible with emails and office hours. She teaches well and gives handouts with the steps of everything to make studying much easier.
i took this as an online class and professor stitt is really nice, her tests are easy. you can't really cheat because your camera has to show your hands during exams. i got a b because i slacked off and got missing assignments but if you just do the homework you'll be fine.
I took this class in the fall semester, her tests are easy and you will get tons of assignments it's around 7~10 per week even more. Her grading is not understandable; if you skip the class, she will hate you and give you a grade B. She also tries her best to give students B grades. Just do not take her class if you can.
One of the best professors. I would love to have her in my next mathematics classes. She explains everything very simply and provides notes to make studying easy.
Professor Stitt has great lectures and really helped me understand the material. However she is really homework heavy with no extra credit. I would take her again because her lectures were excellent, however note to self that you will be doing a lot of work in this class. It's not easy to get the A. I left the class with a good understanding.
Stitt explains complex math concepts very well, if you want to learn math properly, she is the professor to go to. She is not a tough grader, but she does have a way of doing math that you have to follow in order to score the full points. Her class is pretty test heavy too with quizzes every week and 5 exams total.
Had her online and she would post her lectures in short 10-15 min vids. Some professors just post 1 hr long videos which are hard to sit through. Always explains the proof behind topics and ideas and is always able to answer questions and help students. Tests based on hw. She does assign a lot of hw but allows around 10 late assignments.
When having Professor Stitt, she helped me so much and I can honestly say she was the best math teacher I've ever had.
Prof. Stitt had good & clear lectures. However, I had to memorize rules/defns for each exam & would be marked wrong if I did not use the same method stated, even if I used a method covered in class. I found memorizing the numbered laws etc redundant bc she could see the methods I used from my workings. Ex. Answer w/ methods from Sect 5.2 Defn 4a.
I took her in the summer. She gave a TON of assignments. However, she is one of the kindest souls I've ever met. You can complain all you want about all the paper and online homework, but at the end of the day, you will know Pre-Calculus better than anyone else. Take her if you want a solid Pre-Calculus foundation.
Professor Stitt is one of the best math professors at DVC. She is a very tough grader especially on exams. Very homework heavy she gives lots of problems. I learned a lot but her grading is really that bad. She makes it really really hard to get a A and requires you memorize EVERYTHING.
I personally really enjoyed Professor Stitt's pre-calc class. She thoroughly went through each lesson and explained everything pretty clearly. There is a lot of homework, but most math classes are like this. As long as you took notes, the homework went by pretty quickly. Tests and quizzes were based on very similar problems from homework.
The most thorough lecture videos I have ever encountered in an online environment.Tough grader, but that is good because she shows you exactly how the questions should be worked on and answered. Her class and prep work gave me an excellent foundation for Calc 1 and for all math moving forward. Please take her if you ever have the chance!
Disorganized. Frequently corrected by students. Chaotic Energy. Introduced new material and assigned hw after final. Makes you memorize textbook specific theorem numbers. Doesn't allow note cards (even on final). 1+ Closed Quiz per week. Learned material well Could have used time spent memorizing useless information doing better things.
Doesn't put grades into Canvas so nobody sees their grade until an exam comes back. Makes students memorize thm's and if not used/stated properly, marks off points. Every hw assig. and quiz's were 1 point towards particiaption grade. Tests didn't reflect concepts learned in class and difficult to meet with because everyone also wanted to see her.
a lot of homework
Professor stitt was good, she is one of few professors at DVC that will genuinly make you learn a subject through and through to an above proficient level. With that being said, you will likely end up not having a good time throughout the semester, She is very test heavy, very HW heavy, & cares about if you are learning, but very very challenging.
I studied hard for every exam, solving every problem, but she always found small mistakes like a misplaced arrow or incomplete answers and deducted points. It shook my confidence. Other students said I would've earned a B under another professor, but she gave me an F despite all my effort.
Grade was 90% exams (4 exams/1 final), homework got heavy at times and it was only worth about 3% of my grade. She is really nice and willing to answer questions, but she is picky with grading on tests. Takes away points for lots of little things, but the handouts she gives for exams are pretty helpful as they list practice problems for each topic.
She is a professor who will not give A's unless you follow exactly the way she thinks. If you know a concept 1 way, too bad, you have to learn it her way and only her way because thats what she will expect on tests. If you get the answer right but didn't use a method she went over, it's wrong. Small points off on every question. Grade not on canvas
Her class is extremely difficult. No grades in canvas, only when you get your exam back. Exams are very hard. No notes at all, even for the final. Memorization is what you're graded on. Extreme amount of HW, About 3 assignments a week usually around 30-60 questions each. The tests were wildly different from the HW. Unforgiving about your struggles.
Professor Stitt's pre-calc class is challenging but rewarding. Lots of homework, but the lectures are great for understanding the material. Unstuck AI was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
Great teacher and explains very clearly. I failed my first semester of Calc 1 with a different teacher and retook and got a B with her. Always open to help. Take her!
Professor Stitt is super sweet and is a RLLY good teacher and you'll rarely leave class confused. She's specific with what method to use on tests so memorize the methods. 4 tests + a final that are worth 90% of your grade combined so do NOT bomb your tests and study for them!!!! (lowest score is dropped) HW is worth 10% but rlly good practice
Wonderful Professor. She provides her own note papers for each section that breaks down the process to solve the problems very handily. Quizzes look just like the homework so they are easy if you study. She will ramp up the complexity of the problems for the exam, but after the first one all the students were prepared for it.
Insane amounts of HW without enough credit, stingy, won't use canvas even for grades so one doesn't know what they scored, uses pear-son which crashes and is not friendly- doesn't help if the platform errors. Blunt, makes it uselessly harder, it doesn't need to be like this, stubborn about colored pens and useless requirements TAKE SOME ONE ELSE.
Really awesome proffesor! Took her over the summer for precalc. Lectures were clear and easy to follow along with. Reasonable/ good amount of hw. Homework is very helpful. As long as you do the work and manage your time reasonably well, then Im sure most ppl wont have trouble getting an A, especially over the regular semester.
very friendly + helpful when you need help, but such a hard course to keep up with. Granted, taking precalc online is hard regardless of prof, but no lectures/real guidance outside of emails/office hours. Late work isn't accepted, and the amount of homework assigned was quite outrageous. spent up to 4 hrs each night, just to end up withdrawing.
There is a review on here that says she is a tough test grader, and I will absolutely corroborate that. 30-40 question reviews daily for days up to exams and I'd get back a C because I wrote 'Sin = XYZ' and not 'Sin T = XYZ' or forgot an arrow. Gives time-consuming homework regularly. She is a manageable teacher, but her exam grading is atrocious.
