I had to struggle for my B+ in Costin's class. When I asked for help, she snapped, "It's ON the SYLLABUS," and refused to talk to me. She said rude things to students who tried to participate in class. Overall, hers is a hostile classroom enviro

I had her for 303 and 404. Honestly, Costin gets a bad rap. She is tough academically, but she is a good teacher. Her only flaw is bringing too much of her personal life to the classroom, but if you take REALLY good notes and pay attention you'll be fine.

I don't understand why this hatred towards her. I took the class, studied and got an A. She's hard but fair; she does not play favoritism at all. I think she's cool and very informative. I learned a lot from her lectures and I'm happy she was the teacher.

If you are lazy, she is not the teacher for you. If you actually do work and try, then you will do well. She has open office hours all the time. If you do not do well in the beginning, and show improvement throughout the semester, she will see this.

She has got to be the best teacher I've ever had. She knows her material and explains it well. I think those that gave her bad ratings are the ones that didn't study hard enough and failed. There are many quizzes and papers but if you study, you'll ace them because they're very straight forward.

Yes she can snap sometimes, but she is very passionate about the subject that she teaches, and she explains it clearly. The tests and papers are easy as long as you pay attention and grasp the concepts...she is also very helpful especially if you show an interest in succeeding

She's very intelligent and presents interesting material/lectures. The readings are ok, but the assignments are uninteresting and don't seem to address the important issues. The cumulative final sucks because of the inordinate amount of information you have to know. However, she's a great advisor for anthro majors.

She is extremely difficult, but you know what to expect and you walk away knowing something. SHe is inspiring me to be an archaeologist

I don't know what most of these students are talking about. She is not easy, but it is a 300 level class. I enjoyed her, she knows the material like tha back of her hand, and she gives you study guides for all the quizes. Class was very interesting, if you act mature and respect her while she is giving lectures she won't snap. I recommed her.

Her lectures are thorough and easy to follow. She even puts her power point online for students to print at home. She's not hard at all. Those that think that the class is unfair are difficult, are those that aren't willing to devote an hour to study for the quizzes or 30 minutes doing one page writing assignments. She's stern, but good.

She's not very personable...in fact she's rude at times, but if you're not looking for a friend, and ur looking for a teacher, she's perfect. She's thorough, the tests r easy, and she knows what she's talking about. Besides, the notes are online...what more could u ask for?! lol

Costin is very clear in her lectures and expects you to know the material. The material that she coveres had been extremely useful in my other courses. She is the best professor I've had out of the 16 I have taken at CSUN.

I think she is a good teacher, she knows what she is talking about and she loves her subject. but there is a lot of writing in her class. there is a big paper due that is worth 125 points. her quizes on from her notes

A warning. In order to do well in her classes you must do exactly as she says, you can't be late or leave early. Study very hard and do your best on the papers (following her guidelines exactly) and you will be fine. 1 of her classes is equivilant of 2 normal classes worth of work. If you are willing to work hard, go for it, otherwise stay away!

Her class is interesting and its a basic hour and a half of lecture and power point. She's not rude unless THE STUDENT is idiotic and conducts in obviously obnoxious classroom behavior. Overall this class is both easy and challenging. Short answer tests BUT she provides a thorough study of everything you'll need to know. She allows make up points

Prof Costin is a great teacher. She gives you a complete study guide for each test and explains everything you need to know to get an A. She's a character and funny.

four rules: Be on time, don't text in class, read the book, and take advantage of the study guides. her class is passable, just do the online quizzes and study. she uses alot of text books: 2 reading chapter books and a text book.i would say she makes the topic more enjoyable than most...

Overall she is an amazing teacher. She knows her subject and has a passion for it. Powerpoints each day (don't plan on missing) and 2 online quizzes on textbook chapters per week. Midterms and final not too difficult. Just do the Comprehensive study guides and you'll know your stuff.

I was SO surprise discovering those comments here...COME ON PEOPLE! Her class is SO easy! Just do the readings (quizzes are taken at home, so open book!),and study the study guide for midterms and you'll have an A.Yes,she's boring,but her class is fine. Don't expect to talk about Tombs Temples & Treasure, but about what archaeology is REALLY about.

She is one of the best professors to take if you actually want to get off your butt, open a textbook, and LEARN SOMETHING. She definitely expects a lot from her students, but not more than anyone can handle if they aren't too lazy! She is also very helpful! I do recommend taking this class, but not with a bunch of other upper division classes.

Excellent teacher. Yes, she is tough. Gives a lot of work and reading/papers. Pushes you to learn. Is NOT boring, knows her stuff. Doesn't have patience for fools, nor do I.

Her class is very interesting, mainly because she's passionate about the subject. Her class is difficult, but if you're interested in the subject, you will probably enjoy it.

Professor Costin really enjoys the subject matter. She has 2 midterms w/ essays and a Final w/ essay. She gives you a study guide and if you use it, you will pass. There are no surprises. Lots of quizzes, but all open book, online. She uses power points, but write down what she's saying. She can go off on a tangent, but it's usually related .

She is good but her class is just a lot of work. Tons of quizzes and 4 essays, yes FOUR.

22 Quizzes, 2 Midterms, and 1 Final. It was a very challenging class. Archaeology was very fun to learn about. It was an adventure throughout the class. Professor Costin was very kind and wants you to pass the class. I will never forget her intro to archaeology class due to her always saying the word Stuff in the lectures.

I learned so much in this class I wasn't expecting about the Andes cultural history. This prof really knew her stuff. The quizzes and test were easy but the maps were tricky, you have to label locations. Otherwise it was a pretty informative and easy going class. I reccomend for all anthropology majors.

Dr. Costin cares about archaeology a lot, and she expects the same out of her students. You will read a lot, and write a lot of essays. I think most of the controversy surrounding her is that many people are looking for easy grades, and you won't find that with her, but if you're genuinely into archaeology, you should be fine.
