This teacher really knows her stuff - as long as you're willing to put in the work you'll have no problems with her. She's awesome!
I learned more in this class than in any other. She really knows her stuff and makes it interesting. You have to work in this class, but it's fun.

****!
Excuse me? This prof has made biology interesting. She is much better than the other witch who teaches Core. Her tests were tough but fair. All you have to do is show up for class. Don't let her catch you talking you'll be sorry
Did an excellent job keeping the class interested. Difficult tests, but the course itself is a hard one. IF she teaches bio 17 again, take her.
TAKE, TAKE, TAKE. best professor ever! clear, tests are clear and easy if you study what she teaches in lecture! don't take any other professor! and is funny and keeps the class entertainedand she really, really knows her stuff!
Not the greatest teacher on earth, but bearable. Her test are hard and unpredictable.
Classes were interesting, need to read before you go to lecture. Tough exams, but the material is really tough. She did a good job explaining things for the most part and could be funny too. Definately take her for this course.
very hard, and talks about the subject as if you should already know it! i wish she would explain what everything was instead of just converse about it!
A very knowledgable professor who knows her stuff, to say the least. She rushes through the lessons without stopping to repeat herself if you missed something. However, it's not her fault as bio 17 (hardest bio at B.C.) only meets 2 hours a week. So she doesn't have much time. Must read before class
I took Bio 17 with eshel, forest, and mcentee. Bio 17 is a VERY tough course. There is just a lot of material and detail and no way of going around it. Out of the professors who teach it, she is BY far the best. MUCH easier than eshel or forest, but still much harder than any bio you will take.
She was absolutely awesome. Best instructor to take Bio 17 with. I had her night class and she really packed that material into 2 hours. Tests are incredibly fair yet not "easy" per se. Uses a lot of examples and overheads to get the material across. I highly recommend.
I loved her class, Bio 17 is known to be an extremely hard class, but she did all she could to help us know it, and pass it. She is also a great premed advisor and a really nice person. Very helpfull and funny, and she's not afraid to tell you if you made a mistake like some other people I know.
Hard class...even if its core. she talks really fast and make sure you just read the book on things she wants to concentrate on. for the final, i just read my notes and i did good. labs are hard. make sure you ask her help and she is helpful.
Perfect Professor: prepared, ready, makes you work hard and walks her talk. Very rare! Very concerned with being just. A real teacher for REAL students. Work hard, learn to focus, learn to listen and you come out a winner. This prepares you for the next Bio classes. I Love her, can you tell?.
Do not be fooled! This is a very hard class. In fact, many will admit that she is by far the hardest Tester! Tests are hard. Need to know molecular structure details. Lots of details! NO MULTIPLE CHOICE! If there is choice questions, the # of right answers can vary! You have to know material! It's no joke! BUT: She is very good as a teacher, clear!
She is very nice and i really like her. she wants everyone to do well, and is not out to fail you. she even helped me with issues in college unrelated to her class. Bottom line-she is hard!, but to qualify-she is easy(in my opinion) to get a B with. An A, however, is nearly impossible. The rumors are not true-it isnt an easy A.SUPER NICE PERSON!!!!
GREAT professor, tough tester.
Very Very Hard Tester! Beware!!!! Unbelievably hard tests! Not easy at all!!!! Do not listen to those who say that it's a piece of cake! Not even close! It's no joke!
McEntee will do all that she can to make sure you have all the information you need to do well. If you form study groups, pay close attention to lecture (I got a voice recorder and went back over my notes after class to fill in holes), and start studying at least a week and a half before the exams, you will get an A. She is very FAIR.
You have to work hard for a good grade in this class. She is a great professor but at time can have a little attitude. Her exams are difficult but if you study well you'll do fine. I also recommend that you study at least a week or two before the exam.
Amazing teacher-really knows what she's talking about, but tests are difficult. Study from her slides, I didn't read the textbook really.Puts powerpoints online missing more than half the info, then puts the ppt up in class w/ the rest of the info, but speeds through it so you can't copy it all.
everything is very clear. You study her slides and do practices on masteringbiolog.com. However, her exams are really difficult to test you everything. MC with more than 1 ans, fill in blanks without words given, matching, true & false with explanation, pick one doesn't belong to others with explanation
She is really clear in what she says. Incredibly enthusiastic about what she is teaching, she will go so far as to do interpretive dance just to get students to understand and visualize. Most of her tests come from her slides but her tests are VERY difficult. Great teacher but difficult tester/grader. Beware
She knows a lot about the subject & enjoys teaching it. Her tests are super hard & it's not always clear what exactly will be on them. Never reminds you about assignments that are due. States something once at the beginning of the semester & expects you to remember. Speeds through everything leaving a lot of students confused.
Great professor. Very clear and enthusiastic. It's difficult, but if you work hard, it's extremely rewarding to do well in her class.
This professor is great!! She is very enthusiastic about the material. Exams are not difficult if you come to class and study the notes. Half the class doesn't come to lectures since she doesn't take attendance, then complain about doing poorly. Oh and she is very organized, posts test grades quickly, and is nice.
You'll study like crazy for each of her exams and you'll be a fool not to actually! She is very clear on what she wants and that is the fact that she wants you to know EVERYTHING! Never curves, never drops lowest grade, but if you truly, I mean truly, put your BEST effort, you'll get a good grade cuz only then she curves a little;) Got A, so proud!
Hard class. you will learn a lot but it will cost you. 87 is a B in her class. She knows her stuff but very stubborn. she will never listen to you and never ever admit that she made a mistake.
She loves what she does. Yes, the class is hard but it is also very managable. She gives you clear powerpoints and you can study off of that. There is a a lot of memorization and comprehension but her tests are not impossible! You will be fine, I promise. Just be prepared to work hard.
Her tests are extremely hard and require a lot of memorization that's a bad factor but she's very passionate in her teaching that she makes you want to know more and became a favorite professor and BTW details details details are what is expected in her class
Good professor. Exams based on slides. Did not need to buy textbook. Very straight forward and fair. But not very jolly. Other than that fairly good prof!
She's hard but explains things well
McEntee is super tough and tests are nothing but challenging. However, you can tell she is very passionate in the subject and wants the student to be as interested in it as she is, which is close to impossible. She makes sure to stress anything that will be on the test, which is just about everything. Not recommended if you want a good grade.
1. She gives challenging tests 2. You need to actually understand the material she teaches (from slides), because memorization of material will not help you. 3.She is a very strict professor even though attendance is not mandatory going to class every single day is the only way to pass! Good Luck Everyone!
Very passionate and makes the class easy going. Clear with descriptions and explains very well but is very strict as well. This also makes you respect her in a sense. Used the textbook a lot and had online assignments via Mastering Biology.
Excellent professor. Her tests are not easy, but she gives over the info very clearly and very well. Know her material well, and do well. Recommended.
depending on her mood she can be nice or mean. her class is def a snoozer so you dont really need to go. as long as you read the textbook you can pass
Great professor. Her tests are extremely thorough and challenging, and you will come out of her class knowing the work. Be sure to bring her posted PowerPoints to class, whether thru printing them out or having a laptop with you. Everything she does in class is on exams, so the book is not directly needed - although it is great as a study guide.
Pay attention to the reviews for bio 1 vs bio 2. I took bio 2 with her and it was the absolute worst experience I have ever had. Worst professor. She's unclear, unorganized (keeps jumping between topics) and her exams are almost impossible. She's very rude and refuses to answer emails or be available outside of class. Stay away. Good luck.
McEntee is the best biology professor in Brooklyn College. she is clear, and while her exams are thorough and detailed, they are fair. she doesn't use the textbook, unless it is for the Mastering Biology HW. print her power points and bring them to class, and prepare to work hard.
She's nice but get ready to memorize word by word. TOO HARD FOR NO REASON. TRY SOMEONE ELSE ! MASTERING BIO HW every week - not helpful
She is very fair. Her lectures are very lively. Yes, there is work required. Make sure to always go to class and sit in the front. She loves what she does and gives the best advice to Pre-Med students. She's funny and good at what she teaches. Prepare for some work. Study her notes and youll pass.
She tries to get the students actively participating in the lecture- and she succeeds. She's very lively and can engage students, and her analogies really help you visualize what's going on on the microscopic level. Best part it, if you take notes, no need for a textbook. She's great. Take her!
Had her for bio 1 & bio 2 . Bio 1 was not that bad, studied her powerpoints and did well. Bio 2 for me was much more detailed and the material did not click. She is very clear and tells you what you need to know but the material is difficult and you really need to study. The book isn't all that necessary if you pay attention in class and take notes
Everyone loves McEntee because she's a great lecturer. However, her exams are all short answer and they are hard. There's no middle ground, you either know it or you don't. If you have her, make this your passion because if you don't you will not get a decent grade. I got a C- in her class then retook it with another professor and got an A-.. heed
Anyone can study for a class, this one is not an option. Great person and her exams are the worst exams in school. I've never studied so hard on all the slides to end up with an okay grade. Biology is not my major and I honestly don't care to really absorb it. If this is how you feel, run away. Stop, drop, and do not enroll. You have been warned.
McEntee is a great lecturer and, although her tests are difficult, the slides she uses cover everything you need to know. Expect to study a lot if you're aiming for an A and memorize everything you can from her Powerpoints. Her tests were harder than my Bio1 instructor gave but the quality of her teaching was much better.
I just love her. She's hilarious, and her passion for the subject is infectious. She explain everything so fully and clearly that it sticks with you. However, she's not an easy A, and she's very strict. You have to study seriously and attend all lectures in order to do well
If you are going to take bio 1 and another more difficult science class. Do not take mcentee. Yes, you will learn a lot but her class is HARD. You have to study the slides front and back to do good. If you have the time in your sched to study for long hours for bio 1 then take her. If you want to do good with less studying then i recommend another
A lot of student like her, i'm not one of them. Biology is not my thing and it was difficult. She is a great lecturer but the exams are so specific that you end up feeling like a failure. It's no wonder they curve this class, because students do poorly on her exams. I'd rather be struck by lightning than take another class with her.
never had a professor as great as Mcentee. at first I heard so many things about how hard the exams were and was discouraged but after taking her class I realized how easy it was to do well on her exams. you don't have to come to class to get A+. study the notes and you'll do great. Shes an amazing professor and an even kinder person.
A rude woman but a genius in biology. Lectures are interesting.
Terrible teacher, makes an easy bio course way harder than it has to be. Makes you memorize all her slides for the exams. Deliberately leaves out words on her slides, so you have to go to class and listen to her corky teaching. DO NOT TAKE, unless you like memorizing all the processes in transcription and translation.
Terrible teacher. DO NOT TAKE. Her tests are all memorization and very tough and she is very rigid and uncaring.
I've never met a professor who is so uncaring and apathetic towards her students. She is rude and condescending; I seriously don't know how I got through this class. The material isn't hard as long as you study straight from her powerpoints, but her attitude alone should make you steer clear of her. HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. STOP, DROP AND DO NOT ENROLL
Ok for all of you out there who are thinking of taking any professors for Bio 1 or 2 that aren't McEntee, don't. She is amazing. Yes she teaches a bit of advanced cell and molecular in her lectures. She gives so much extra credit that its incredible. Her tests are only on her slides. Don't listen to anyone who says not to take her. They're haters.
Very heavy and dense lectures. She gets tight if you talk in lec or use your phone. Good professor with kinda difficult tests cuz there's so much to memorize from the slides. Makes you come to class and leaves blanks in slides so you have to fill them in at lec.
Tests are a killer. You get multiple choice, more than one answer multiple choice, true or false (make false statements true), fill in the blanks (no word box), and odd man out (explain why). Homework is assigned on connect so make sure you check constantly because you will not get reminded. She sends her slides so if you can memorize, good for you
Her exams are hard - not only do you need to memorize tiny details from her slides, but you also have to understand the concepts. She makes up for it with the extra credit, which is short answer, and so long as you keep writing, can be an easy +10 points. best bio professor at Brooklyn college
Took both Bio1 and Bio2 w/her. Worked my ass off, but got my A and A- respectively. She helped me get into research. Guided me indirectly by saying what I needed to hear rather than what I wanted to hear. She is not the person to pity you and I thank her for it... Graduated from medical school 6 months ago and still remember her tough love.
Tests are hard. Hard to do well on them even though you study. Nice person. Lectures arent bad-but tests are.
Waaaay too much hw on connect. Tests are also extremely hard even if you study.
Very hard instructor, but among one of the best to take for Biology. Attendance not mandatory, she posts slides online, but omits some information. You need to attend class to fill in the blanks from the slides. Her tests are very, very difficult and require a lot of studying.
Professor McEntee loves what she teaches and it shows, she posts the blank slides that you need to fill in in class. If you memorize the slides you should be fine on the tests. The only negative is that the lab is worth 50% overall, which is a huge chunk of the grade also she has connect homework every week which is standard for biology classes now
Crazy amount of hw questions every week. Slides missing info. You have to be there. Tests are hard. Fill ins. It's not just true or false. you have to make it true. is passionate but quick to anger and be rude.
If you're a pre-med or Bio major, you have to take her. I can't speak for the other bio professors, but McEntee made me love the subject and study harder. Get ready for the exams, they are very difficult, but doable. Everything is included on the slides she posts, attend class do the homework and it'll be fine. Eventually you'll be grateful. I am!
Took her for bio 1 and 2. Tests are fill in the blank (no word bank), odd man out (and explain why), t/f (and if false make it true), multiple choice (choose all that apply), and an essay worth 10 points extra credit. You need to know her slides like the back of your hand!
She likes to lecture for the entire class time. She doesn't simplify the material even after asking several times. She speaks as though everyone in the room is a Biology major and has a passion for the subject. You MUST memorize all her slides perfectly. 4 exams (10% each) and homework (10%). Exams usually are based on 4 DETAILED slides have fun!
took her for both bio 2 and advance cell&mol. Her exams are rough because she LOVES to asks for small details. But she is super passionated about biology. just don't use your cell phone during class if you don't want to be yelled at :o
Fantastic foundation if you want to continue to upper level bio. Must come to class to get full lecture material. Well organized information, great lecturer, especially for the level of detail she covers. The weighting of the class and 1002 is kind of nuts, with 50% lab and variable expectations/quality from dif. lab instructors.
She's an okay teacher. I studied HARD for her lecture tests and received A minuses on most of them; she grades individually and that's good. The problem with Bio 2 at this school is the terrible lab professors who accompany this class however. I had Zhu for lab and got D/F's on many quizzes, even though I did well on McEntee's hard lecture exams.
I know it's tough on instructors to adapt their course to an online format, but this class translated particularly poorly. Unfortunately, not much effort was made to address the concerns generated by this class being online. The teachers lecturing ability is poor, especially online. Ultimately, the students must eat the cost of the disadvantages.
There will be a total of 4 exams and if u miss one... then u gotta take cumulative. Exams are just her slides so pay attention to details. She is willing to curve the exam grades tho. The homeworks are on connect which are very time consuming but way more helpful then the actual lectures. Take her on your own risk
Good professor and teaches well, tests are all based off slides, but the tests are difficult. STUDY YOUR SLIDES. Only 4 exams and each worth 10 percent of grade, and another 10 percent is homework that you do weekly on connect. Since exams are worth a lot its pretty much only thing that makes or breaks your grade. I would take her again.
hard class, take anyone else.
She presents the topic very well, however her exams are a killer. Very detailed exams she makes up her own questions. Exams are from her slides. STUDY THOSE SLIDES CLOSELY. She asks the smallest details on her exams. If you don't study you will not do well on exams.
She assigns 4 exams per semester and they are all based on slides. She makes u buy an 80$ online textbook to do hw which is mandatory. The 4 exams arent cumulative and is 10% each. Im not sure how u would need a PhD to teach this class since all she does is read off slides she made before class. Her slides are incomplete so u hav to go to class.
Exams were tough: fill-in-the-blank with no word bank, multiple-choice with multiple answers each, odd man out, and T/F + make the statement T. Everything she teaches is fair game. However, she is really generous with extra credit (10 pts) and her incomplete slides are actually engaging. She is clear with what she expects; you just need to earn it.
I really enjoyed Dr. Mcentee. Her tests are super fair - everything comes directly off her slides, if you study, you'll be absolutely fine. Very direct manner when answering questions. The connect homework can be a pain, but it is an easy way to boost your grade, as she grades this based on effort put in. Would take her again!
honestly, i thought i would do horrible in her class because her test format is out of this world. however, i did way better than i thought i would, like wayyy better. i did better in her class than i did on lab. she gives extra credit on each of her exams which you could get up to 10 points of more which is crazy. honestly shes very caring in real
Listen its biology, it aint easy. Study for your exams, but its possible to do well on her exams if you study her slides. She gives incomplete slides online and she fills them in during class. Took her for bio 1 and 2. She responds to emails quickly. 4 exams each worth 10 percent, and hmwk weekly due fridays also 10%. Rest 50% is lab.
You need to study to succeed! But! This professor LOVES her subject and she loves her students, makes lectures interesting, very detailed. Makes hard things easy to understand but this class has many details to remember so without studying- won’t succeed. She’s fair. Strict rules but fair. It’s my second semester with her and I love it
I honestly think McEntee is the best bio lecturer that you can get. Her exams are easy if you really put in the effort to thoroughly go through her slides. Make flashcards and memorize the information and diagrams (even what might seem like minute details) and theres no reason you can't get above a 90 on all the exams.
I love Professor McEntee!! She is a very engaging and funny teacher, and makes it clear from day 1 that she knows, in depth, exactly what she's talking about. Homework and tests are straightforward and though she doesn't take attendance I'd highly recommend showing up to lecture, as she goes over what the tests will be on. Amazing Bio 1 experience!
Shes an amazing professor really knows her material and is great at explaining it as well. She is also a really fair test grader.
Professor McEntee is one of the best teachers I have. She actually teaches and you will be able learn from her. She assigns connect hw for every chapter read and expect to go to class if you want to do well as she leaves blanks on slides to be filled in. Her exams are straight forward and she tells you what to study. Study and you will do well.
Hard exams, but very good lecturer. You have to attend class or you won't succeed. She will prepare you for the exam. she gives extra credit opportunities, only if you show up to class.
Very specific tests with many details. Always know the little details, they are important. Her exams are detail-oriented on her slides. Every molecule is important to learn. Skip lecture and you won't receive all the necessary information. Overall, she's a great professor and it's clear she knows A LOT.
Dr. Mcentee is an amazing lecturer. She gives slides to follow and for you to fill in the information. If she sees your trying and struggling with her course, she will aid you in understanding the material. She is a caring professor with loads of experience and allows her students to interact using concept maps and group projects.
Prof. McEntee is a very experienced professor in biology and she knows how to teach the subject very well. Make sure to pay attention during the lectures. Her tests are difficult but not unfair as long as you study the slides.
She's a great lecturer, you don't have to take notes in class, focus on active recall through flashcards, and follow her advice in getting in a study group.
If you're pre-health, TAKE THIS CLASS! McEntee's love for microbiology really shines and she adds a lot of personal stories that make the diseases you learn real. It's a lot though (72 diseases) and spaced repetition is mandatory to do well. Get ready for concept maps, her infamous exam format, and a group video on a selected disease.
Professor McEntee's class is challenging but rewarding. Attendance is a must to succeed, as her detailed lectures are crucial. I found Unstuckstudy and flashcards very helpful for studying the material.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Her exams are not even based off her lecture slides. They include definitions but you have to actually teach yourself what something means. she does not go off the textbook. Her exams include MC, short response, true or false, circle the odd one, and an impossible extra credit ESSAY question. Sets you up for failure.
Took her in Spring 2025. She's very knowledgeable, but her exams rely heavily on memorizing tons of info from her dense slides. Definitely study with a group. She can seem intimidating at first, but she's kind and willing to help if you reach out.
she has one of the hardest exams. be prepared for that. she knows shes a tough grader too and is proud of it. however, she explains topics so well i learned so much from her. THIS is what we all go to school for, yes its a struggle but at least I was able to take away a lot of information.
