She is the WORST instructor I have ever taken. DO NOT TAKE!!!!! The work load is way to much and she thinks her class is the only one you are taking.
I took Summer I Intro to Humanities Online: quizzes easy(open book).Weekly BB this part is kinda tuff Many Q's reading & virtual tours. And then you have a Reflection paper to write each, week: Otherwise 3 Projects vary in dif.NO TESTS. At times tuff.
This instructor isn't hard, but you must keep up with the assignments to make an A or high B. Learned more than I had anticipated, very interesting.
Like was said earlier, the work she gives is a TON compared to other classes. This class *can* be interesting, but all the work makes you lose focus fast.
The Humanities can be an enjoyable subject, but after you take this teacher you will NEVER want to pick up another Humanities book for as long as you live. Her assignments are too lengthy and repetitive in nature. Her grading is based on what she wants to hear rather than what you are attempting to
Great teacher. Genuinely nice and interesting to listen to. Does give a assign a lot of work though but if you keep up with it then you'll be fine.
Too much busy work. The class was interesting, but she treats you like a baby. Like you can't decide how to do things on your own.
She gives alot of work, interested to listen to. You will learn alot, but again... to much work.
she seems to think that her class is the only class people are taking and gives you a work load worth four classes put together, and she does not make herself very clear when giving assignments
i like dr. briggs because she doesn't lecture like other teachers. she does however give a lot of homework and she makes you think. OH MY GOD!! you actually have to use your brain!!
Don't take this class if you're a slacker. Don't try to turn in BS. Dr. Briggs is an amazing teacher and NW Vista is very lucky to have her - she should be teaching at a four year university like Trinity. In her class you will think and you will grow an
Briggs is the best teacher. Yea she gives a lot of homework but it is college after all. I mean I actually feel like I learned something in that class. She makes it so interesting and I like working in groups. Take her if you are up to a challenge. If you
its hard if you miss one class, its intersting but too much work and if you dont like to do a lot of work dont take her

Awsome teacher! Awesome lady. True, lots of work, but it is all worth it. She doesnt' teach lessons for a semester, but for life!
I took her for a maymester class and it was like going to a summer day camp. It was very fun. Many field trips to museums. A lot of in class activities. Drawing, Listening to music, watching movies. She makes the class interesting and you can tell that she really really loves teaching this stuff.
If you want an A in Briggs class, you must take her in the maymester. Any other time she gives you alot of work and grades your paper unfairly. You will get an A with some effort or B with minimal effort in the 3 week maymester.
You have homework in the class, but its not that hard, and she doesnt lecture, and you the class is not politicaly correct. Grades fair on papers if you can show you got the point. took her twice for both histories got a's
I have other classes besides yours. This is a history class not literature. A paper is never good for her, and i have had business communications. Just because you are tenure doesnt mean all complaints will fall on deaf ears. This is not a graduate course. You make me and others feel like little kids, "Now class this is a hard assignment"
Awesome! The best instructor I ever had. Had Dr. Briggs for both Histories. She is GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!!!!!!
Expects good work. Good teacher but be prepared to work for your grade. Lots of papers if not via internet.
Very good teacher. Be prepared to participate in class and to work hard for your grade. I learned way more than I thought I was going to learn in this class!
Don't disagree with her on the board postings, or post any moderate or conservative comments, as she seems to be a very liberal person with an active policy of attempting to convert the world and grades the discussion board on that criteria. Her papers aren't that tough in the internet class (got all A's) just follow expanded 3.5 format.
Lots of work in her class. I took it online and would say that you are on your own. You do 1-2 papers a week and have to do 8 disscussions a week. She is a nice lady but isn't willing to help. She takes forever to grade stuff so you never really know your average. I did get a good grade but i put in a lot of effort, all i have to say is good luck.
This class was very hard. Took a lot of time to complete assignments because they never end and you do a lot of posting each week. Never really knew what my grade was because she takes such a long time to grade things I'm sure because of assignment overload in all her classes. Keep up with all the assignments and do quality work you'll get a prou
This class was a lot of work. There was at least one paper, usually two due a week. You had to keep up on the discussion board which was time consuming. She is SLOW to grade and ended up grading 6 papers in the last two days.
This teacher is nice, but don't let her attitude at orientation fool you. She is very unwilling to help, seems to be clear with directions but always wants something more. Even when she does give feedback it is rarely helful. A LOT OF HARD WORK. Does not offer much sympathy for technical problems or otherwise.
This lady is very hard. Lots of work and wants it all done. She demands alot form you. I WILL NOT SAY SHE IS A GOOD TEACH TO PICK. NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!
too much work. and all on the computer. i didnt no i signed up for what basically is a hybrid class. doesnt help of clarify on assignments. and no matter what you do its still wrong and not up to her standards even though she never set any. much rather have tests then any of this other crap.
Honestly she is one of the worst teachers I have had. She treats you like you are only taking her class NOT four other ones. Taking her class hurt my grades for my other classes. SHE IS NOT RECOMENDED AT ALL!!!
She is annoying! to much reading and printing of everything. And when your talking up infront of class she will look at you like your an idiot. do not take!
very hard. alot alot alot of reading. makes you feel stupid if you dont know something. seems nice but isnt. do not take.
This has got to be the worst summer class imaginable! The syllabus alone was 23 pages (NO JOKE)! It is not worth the effort because she will try everything in her power not to give you the grade you deserve. She puts up a front to be very nice, but trust me, she is a mean and terrible woman! Do not waste your time! Sign up for Prof Martinez!
Tons of lame assignments, took this for an internet class and dropped it, pages for the class were posted in bright and sometimes hard to read colors, and she used so many exclamation marks in her writing, and defined simple words for us that would be expected in a college vocabulary, that I found it hard to take seriously.
She was extremely difficult, and although I tried my very best, it was impossible to get an A.
If you want to take an online course, this is the one for you! ALL of the hw assignments are online and there's about 800 pages that she makes you print and "actively read" every class. Also, she looks at you like you're dumb when you're talking. She also always talks about her experiences at rock concerts in the sixties.
If you are not majoring in History DO NOT TAKE HER! Because you'll ended up hating her.
DO NOT take this lady for online! its far more work normal..your better off taking an actual classroom class!
Do the work assigned, and you will be fine in class. She loves to give you documents outside of your text and have you do assignment on them. Almost daily, you do some sort of group work. Not the best professor out there, but do the work, show up for class, and participate.....You will do good.
Do not take her class!!! She ridiculous. She picks favorites and is not willing to help you at all. She gives excessive homework like you don't have other homework to turn in for other classes. Beware!
Great teacher - require some work, but provide all info needed to succeed. It was fun and really helps to open you mind.
I could not stand her class. I really liked history until I took her. She looks at you and your group like you're stupid when you're presenting and her grading is not fair. You have to work for your A. She assigns a lot of work on the internet and is always late with grades. Would NOT recommend.
Lets just say i had to approach the board and have my grade appealed. She is very nice and seems very liberal. But when you step into her class be prepared to read the 23 page syllbus and take a test on it and then to feel like a dumb dumb throughout the rest of the course. She takes things too personal when its about thomas jefferson. DNT TAKE
Teacher does not help with medical abcenses, I was out for 2 weeks for medical reasons, and she did not respond to emails requesting information so I could keep up with the class assignment wise. This class is a Web inhanced course though it is not listed as being one, BEWARE! The teacher has favorites and gives out attitude if she doesn't like you
Absolutely horrible professor. She is incredibly rude and deducts points if she doesn't agree with your opinion. She requires that you participate in discussions, and even if you follow her guidelines and complete all of the requirements you do not get an "A". She is biased when she grades. You must constantly supply answers and give examples.
This is the worst teacher I ever had, she takes everything extremely personal, so if you take this class be careful what u say, her class is boring and she is just a bad teacher. Her class does not make any sense
This is the worst teacher I ever had, she takes everything extremely personal, so if you take this class be careful what u say, her class is boring and she is just a bad teacher. Her class does not make any sense.
DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!!!! Tons of work and alot of reading. As If I didn't have enough work with my other classes. Assignments are ok some are difficult. SHe demands too much of you. I would not recommend her at all.
I had her for History: Woman's Emphasis. Very interesting class, but do not take if you are looking for an 'easy A'. You will definitely have to work HARD in this class. Lots of reading, even more writing. She would be better suited at a University than a CC.
Cathy Briggs has a full understanding of what she is teaching. She is helpful, she sticks to her syllabus, but alot of the course was done online as well, which I didn't like. I would have preffered more work inside the class instead of at home. Overall though, Cathy is a nice teacher who is respectful of her students and expects the same back.
I don?t recommended, I work really hard I didn?t get help from her she makes the materials really hard find another teacher don?t take Ms. Cathy Briggs
Ms. Briggs definitely knows about history shes a great history person but it's a very boring class. She gives you a ton of reading for the week and then you have to write a 3 page paper almost evryweek. I respect her and all but she treats us as if this is the only class we are taking and we have no other classes.
Ms Briggs is a nice lady but makes you write a whole bunch. She reminds me of Mrs. Brady. She's a good person, sweet and kind, but would not recommend her.
I had Ms. Briggs for History 1301 and I can not recommend her. She has you write a ton of paper based off of concepts she got out of the text and grades said papers brutally.
She was a horrible teacher. Worst teacher I have had since being at NVC. She treats her students like children, grades VERY harshly, does not do much to keep you motivated, and gets catty when you are not excited to do the endless amounts of busy work she assigns you. Do not take this teacher...she is a feminazi.
Anyone who complains she's a bad teacher obviously isn't at school to do actual WORK. She's one of the best teachers I've ever had. She LOVES history and you will love it too by the end of the semester. Her class is anything but boring; we do all kinds of activities. 99% of the negative commments I've seen about her are just plain slander. A++++
I took Mrs. Briggs for Hist 1301 but it was a special 1301 called Rebels, Radicals, and Revolutionaries. The class was not an easy class but it was very fun. Don't take if you want an easy A, but if you want a fun class and enjoy History or Politics and aren't afraid to work then take that class!
Okay I took Mrs. Briggs. Dont like being looked down on? then dont take her. she has her favorites dont get me wrong she will be nice sometimes but since she accused me of plagiarizing she is anything but nice. Gives me faces ect. It comes down alot of papers which are alright and a few in class activities no final. Btw i would never take her again
Class is ALWAYS interesting. Very fair, easy to understand instructions, very smart, always pleasant attitude. Goes above and beyond to make sure her students understand the material. The best in my book. I would take her again no problem. Very nice person.
She is extremely hard when it comes to grades. It seems like no matter what I do I cant make over a 80 in papers. When you are presenting she will look at you like you are crazy. She is very touchy feely. She is one to pass out goal sheets and self evaluations for us to do like we are children. Dont take her.
Took online 2010. She is very concise on what is to be included in your papers and grades fairly, I think. 1-2 papers every week, no late work accepted. You will work hard for this class. I received an A with an overall class average of a D... Take note and take her class seriously.
You must show up to class to participate. The work isn't hard at all. She is tough grading, but if you show up and give an effort she will give you a good grade regardless.
She was hard on grading. You can tell wether she likes you as a "historian" or not. When you present be prepared to be attatcked and even if she told you before hand you knew what you were doing... Your wrong she'll look at you like your presentation was way off and on your papers no matter how much effort you put she'll find a way to see past that
This class was specified for Rebels,Renegades, and Radicals. I didnt know that till i got to class. The class was easy, aslong as you go to class. You dont have too, but you will if you want an A
Awesome professor with the most fun and exciting way to stutdy history
This is a READING INTENSIVE course with Mandatory Attendance. She is a good teacher who loves what she does but is far from easy. Do not take if you do not like to read and are not prepared to put the work in to do well. On papers make sure you follow her instructions to a T or you will not do well. Overall she's good and fair but requires work.
She is a really great teacher. She likes to have and does hands on activities. Her quizzes and OK if you read the material. The books are a MUST have you can't really do anything without them. Her essays are easy but are all turned in online and she is a hard grader unless you follow all directions exactly.
If you appreciate Thinking For Yourself Don't Take Her! The book is not required because you have to print out views of history that support a Very Liberal Ideology! If you mention the opposing view of history your point is pushed aside, plus you get a "you're stupid" face. Perfect teacher for the aspiring socialist and social activist.

Too many reading and work. She grade essay so hard.
Yes, daily required reading, but the class was EASY and FUN. Not the typical boring history class. I learned everything I needed to learn and MORE about American history.
Loved this class! I feel like I've learned so much more about our history than I did in other classes. She really brings it alive and has a powerful way of teaching the class. She makes it a fun and easy going environment that makes you want to learn and listen. You do have to do your work and come prepared- but why shouldn't you? =)
Please save your money! I missed three papers, and emailed her asking if the "safety net" would save me from failing the class. ten days later she responds with "you missed 3 papers, you should drop the class"! Really ...WOW she couldn't give me a min of her time! Her grading is way to tough. Smug Liberal. DB posts are a 4 part system. dont do it.
She is very helpful whenever needed, assignments are easy as long as you actually try. I did this as an online class and it was easy.
Cathy was extremely helpful! I am no good at history, but she worked with me and helped me curve my thinking to as a historian. The book she uses is a great book because it's history in different perspectives. It's a lot of work, but it's not too tough.
This professor is all over the place! Response time to questions emailed-not good & sometimes no response at all! No book required but downfall is she forgets to load the material leaving fewer days to read & complete work. One thing I did like was that it isn't all txt book work. Some assignments are actually fun!
Good teacher; If you are into cougars then you enjoy the class that much more. Be sure to print out reading assignments before class.
Dr. Briggs is definitely one professor I can credit for helping me take school seriously for the first time my life. Her teaching presence makes quite an impact, as well. Dr. Briggs, do not change a thing, no matter how unenthused certain students may be.
her online class is a joke. She grades the debates way to harshly. I got a 20 on my first one because I supposedly did not comment on my replies when no one replied on my post. I took her online course because I work a lot so i can do the homework whenever, But its like she wants you to constenly be commenting on the debate or you get a bad grade
Material was great... HOWEVER.....She can be very unclear as to what exactly she's looking for... If you're off by a fraction you will get HAMMERED on essay grades... I got an A but it was a war to keep it... When I asked her for advice on how to get higher marks she gave me nothing... I think she's heartless and very arbitrary with her grades...
she needs help forreal
Mrs. Briggs is the kind of teacher that I thought woukld make history fun, it was if you want a semester of boredom for the next 16 weeks have fun.
This teacher is not helpful at all! towards the end of the semester I had to bug her FOUR times just to put most of my grades in. so basically I didn't know I was failing till the last few weeks of the semester. She is all over the place, and unclear on what she wants. If she cant even keep up with my grades how am I supposed to?
She is seemed to issue a lot of work but it was so confusing and she was extremely critical when it came to grading. She seems nice though, but she seems to put out too much homework. so be prepared to work longer hours on her homework, essays, Discussion because she splits them it 4 parts.
Be prepared to print a lot of papers and read A LOT, she somehow goes into character a lot of times when it comes to the things we are reading about. Not really what i was looking for in a 8 am class. Really tough grader when it comes to the essays she assigns, Struggling to keep my grade up. Expect class participationattendanceDo not recommend.
The assignments are very confusing and she is a very tough grader. She also takes attendance and it counts for a big part of your grade, so if you do not show up you are not gonna pass. Everything you do in class will be group work so be ready. She gives alot of pop quizzes or "check ups" as she calls them. I like the material covered but not her
I got an A in her class but would not recommend her. Test are based on her opinions for the answers than the readings. Takes forever to grade your paperwork. Assignments did not have anything to do with history. Be aware.
Horrible. She's an unnecessarily tough grader. She gives out a lot of reading, essays that SEEM easy but are actually just easy to get low grades on, and online quizzes with a handful of tricky questions. Would not recommend to anyone.
She is a nice professor, but I would never recommend her to anyone ever. She is extremely biased, and grades off of opinions instead of knowledge. Her quiz's are tricky, she makes it difficult to pass, if she even passes you. Don't waste your time, spare yourself the headache and take another professor.
The biggest problem I had with her is that the textbook for the course only costed about 60 dollars... Turns out she doesn't like the book so, instead, I spent more money PRINTING OUT every single one of the readings she made us "actively read". This class was a waste of time and money, honestly. I would not recommend to anyone.
I managed to have A's in all of my other classes except for this one. She doesn't give extra credit work besides one replacement assignment at the end of the semmester. She wasn't very clear and she is an extremely tough grader. Would not take her again and would not recommend her for anyone else. Turning in homework on time just isn't enough.
She seemed to have her syllabus on track, but then she would throw a curve ball and ask for you to watch a film the day the a test was due for her, so you had a second piece of homework to complete out of the blue. No book needed just print a lot, but what I read was interesting. She is horrible at emailing back if you have questions. Don't take!!!
Tough grader. She very knowledgeable. you will work for your grade.
DO NOT TAKE HER FOR ONLINE. Never in my life had I had to drop a course, let alone and online one, but had to after it became clear she was an unrealistically difficult grader. She ACTUALLY downgrades you (quite harshly) for turning in homework during the early AM hours, and comments how you "should manage your time better." Unbelievable.
Tough instructor. Difficult test and assignments. Unclear on assignments outside of canvas. Would not recommend.
Ridiculously tough grader. She is unclear and confusing on her expectations for assignments. Make sure you have a printer, because you will be printing a lot, and reading a lot.
I took her online FLEX II course and it was miserable. Her expectations are unreachable when it came to the homework and most of the time it was not clear.
Took her 1301 History class, mistake. She makes you write long essays and doesn't make it clear about what she really wants. She doesn't not collaborate with you and you can get really low grades if she doesn't like you.
She is vague about assignments and when it is time for her to grade them, she expects you to know how she wants you to phrase sentences, if it is not up to her standards, she will take points off. I think she tries to be better, but does not do as much as she could.
This is by far one of the hardest professors I've ever taken. Papers and discussions are graded based on her own opinion and feed back to do better on future assignments is impossible to get. Expectations are unclear. You're definitely going to have to fight for a good grade in this class.
"You should try an aim for a better grade next time" was one of first feedbacks I received from her. I'm an A and B student with majority of my classes flex. I've never failed or dropped a class before. I have 35 credits, just to give you an idea on how many classes I've taken. I had to drop this course. Pro: No book required. Cons: everything else
I have never dropped an online class but was forced to with her 1302 class. I have never turned anything in late but none of my work was up to her standards. It seems like she grades based off what she feels that she likes. Like her opinion. She is very confusing so i am retaking the class next semester, but just not with her. Do not take.
She is extremely difficult on her grading. I have never turned in anything late but yet never made above a 80 on anything. DO not take her. I am dropping and retaking next semester with a different teacher.
I accidentally signed up for this class, when I meant to take this class with my previous history professor. Honestly did not enjoy this class. She is a horrible grader and even if you are an A student, you will not succeed in here. None of my work met her standards. I thought I could bring my grade up but I regret not dropping the class.
Cathy Briggs is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Everyone complaining about her needs to realize that they're in college, not high school. Yes, you have to work hard to pass her class. That's reality. If you want easy, pick another teacher. If you want QUALITY, Professor Briggs is the teacher for you. I strongly recommend her.
I would not recommend this class to my worst enemy. No matter how much time I devoted into my work it was impossible to even get an A on one assignment and I'm an honor roll student. The grading is very critical and instructions were unclear on most assignments. Do yourself a favor and don't take this class.
A lot of work was required to get the A+ and I felt my life revolved around her class. Granted, I took it as a flex course. If you want to learn and apply yourself, she's your professor. If you want an easy A, find another teacher. On the plus side, no test, or quizzes. And best of all, no memorizing multiple choice answers.
The most disorganized course I have ever had the DISPLEASURE of taking. The content was not necessarily awful, or difficult; the conceptual style of teaching was interesting. However, due dates, expectations, etc., were vague and unmethodical. Please, do yourself a favor, do not subject yourself to such a disorderly, haphazard excuse for a course.
Organized, with clear instructions. I didn't like the way she used her position and the class as a megaphone for her social and political views. Taught only events in history that agreed with her views, not a comprehensive history course! I did "A" level work, missed one assignment got a "C". Im' a 3rd year honor role student. Not a fair grader.
I should have listened to the reviews on here. I am took her online summer class. I go to A&M, the courses at A&M are more complex than this, but at least they are organized. The professor's syllabus is hard to understand. Expectations are almost unrealistic, when I have work and a personal priorities to attend to as well. Do not take
If you don't follow her 1 out of 3,000 very specific instructions than you will fail you read 10 pages and follow the hardest instructions to read
Shes is a tough grader. every week we have a 2 1/2-3 page paper, discussions always have 2 different topics we have to write about. shes a nice lady, but man she demands a lot!!
If you have a job, or have a busy life, this class is not for you. Assignments are due at 7 am, there is heavy reading, and papers with very weak explanation in which she grades terribly hard. There is no make ups if you miss an assignment. failed her class
I took this class as a requirement and i completely regret taking her course. Her instructions are soo long and confusing. she is so specific on how she wants certain things and it is hard to understand, it is very very confusing. if you like to be stressed by all means take this course. there is soo much to do and you will have alot on your plate.
I had one paper do that said to back up your argument with support but dont use quotes or support from the article. She gives very little descriptions on the papers she hands out, also most of the quizzes are short answer. Most of the papers are about women back then, and if you dont agree with feminism you will fail the paper. Awful teach
This has got to be the worst class I've ever taken. Her instructions at times can seem very unclear especially if this isn't your strongest subject. I've noticed how disorganized everything seems. Links she provides don't work also, that automatically tells me she doesn't review her material every semester. I don't advise you to take this class.
I started this class two weeks ago, I turned in my first assignment and I was in shock. She gave very little information to what her requirements were, and like I said it was my very first assignment. She gave me a terrible grade. She provided very little feedback as to what my mistakes were and what to do better next time. I do not recommend.
No clear grading instructions. I literally had to go throughout the module to find the instructions. Obviously doesn't update her modules either as links don't work majority of the time, had to email profusely. Tough grader for long papers on unclear instructions. Not the best combination. Don't take her.
