She will teach you her side and nothing else. I'm a liberal, and she pissed me off to the point where I sounded like a far right-winger. Unless you are an utter pacifist, avoid her like the plague.
She goes off on tangents A LOT. Tangent, tangent, tangent, that's all she does! Talking about World War I poetry? Nope! She's knowledgable about certain areas of war, but not in general... Easy class!!!!!!!
Easy class, but PAINFULLY boring!
Nice lady. Lectures are interesting, albeit somewhat random. Could be more clear in setting down course requirements. Very kind grader; her comments on papers are extremely helpful. Her politics are radical; watch out.
Basically if you don't agree with her opinion you are destinted to fail the class. She has no respect for the men and women of the armed forces and is the perfect example of naive. I have never been in such a bad class. She loves to rant about peace...
so much ****ing work and no interaction with the professor - your guidance is a 36 page syllabus. if you are planning on giving any importance to other classes or if you would like to speak (and not just listen to her) in class...don't take cayo gamber. o
Avoid this class at all costs!!! You will learn nothing, be forced to do tons of inane assignments, and will be forced to listen to her bizarre lectures that have NOTHING to do with the class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!

she's an interesting individual, but if you don't agree with her, she'll be a tough grader. the assignments in her class are bull-- you do nothing for the first few weeks of school then have 15 page papers that require going to the u.s. holocaust museum. her class has made my writing worse.
Very frustrating class b/c your writing won't get any better with her.very unclear in expectations
worst teacher ever in my life. syllabus is her life. weird accent. completely arbitrary grader and unable to schedule papers appropriately. be prepared to live at the holoaust museum for a week. when revising papers, doesn't say everything she wants to fix it. papers are guesswork. switch out
horrible teacher. rude, mean, irresponsible with assignments. cayo refuses to tell you what to do for your first draft, then tears it up - even if you do what she says, you still won't get a good grade. overall, a worthless course that makes your writing worse, not better
Cayo is one of the worst teachers I've had in my entire life. She talks a lot about the Holocaust but refuses to teach her students about writing. Gamber never lets you know what she wants in your essays. Don't expect to have written a proper first draft by the way, in fact don't even bother. I promise that she'll tear your rough draft apart.
Cayo is amazing. She is so smart and sweet and always willing to help you out. If you work hard and are thorough, you will do well. Classes are very interesting. Always go to the peer group meetings- not only are they helpful to your essay but not attending will affect your grade. I would recommend this clas to anyone looking for a good UW.
Is really helpful if you go in to her office hours and ask for help. I did well in this class and I didnt think I was that great of a writer. I'd take the class, very interesting.
This is the worst class i've ever taken. She does not help u and she is incredibly vague. The books that u buy, u dont even use them for class. I hate this *****. One of those prof u wish u never met.
This woman is sickeningly the worst teacher out there. She is so vague in expectations and then so harsh in grading. She is hard to understand, holds completely random lectures, and then pops hard papers on you. DO NOT ever take Gamber
Gamber is the WORST teacher i've ever had. I do have to admitt she is helpful at times. When you can't find things she'll help you and she's understanding when it comes to excuses. However, She wont tell you EVERYTHING that is wrong with your rough draft so you think its fine then you're screwed when you turn it in as a final - I really dislike her
I didn't think I would like the class because I wasn't sure I wanted to take a course about the Holocaust and then I read her ratings and was even more unsure, but I stuck it out last semester and loved the class.
Cayo is, by far, the worst professor (I've met to date) employed by GW. The fact that they would go so far as to put her in charge of a writing course is pure madness. She does not care whether or not students can write; she only cares that they adhere to her anti-American agenda. If you care about writing or having an open-minded prof, stay away!
This was hands down one of my favorite courses last semester. There is a lot of reading involved, but you are never tested on it. Class discussions were what made this class interesting. Cayo is about as leftist as you can get, which made for many interesting discussions. Take only if you are truly interested in the Holocaust.
This class was by far the worst I've ever taken. She is a horrible teacher and gives no sound advice. She has no direction and can't even control her own class.

Prof Gamber didn't do much in the way of helping my writing - she was too much focused on the material (the Holocaust) of the class instead of helping us learn to write (in general and to her standards). There is reading, but none of it is tested upon. The only thing that got me through the class was my interest in my own paper topic.
Gamber is without doubt the worst prof. Ive ever had. She is so unclear, so unfair and vague w/ comments and grades, and overall a bias leftist liberal. AVOID
Not a bad grader at all. Just pick a topic for your paper and stick with it. Overall, class shouldn't be too bad.
I changed my paper topics like 4 times, but eventually I found a topic with alot of info and the paper was painful, but worthwhile. She is very knowledgable about the Holocaust, but does not teach ANYTHING about writing. Write your essays on ONE SPECIFIC TOPIC that has too much info to use. Best topic would be an individual camp like Dachau.
I don't know about this whole hot thing and maybe she isn't in terms of Hollywood but I think she is in terms of her thinking and how much she cared about my writing and about the work I was doing. I learned how to write better because I was asked to do a lot of writing and because she responded to everything I wrote.
Some people give a prof a bad rating just out of spite, bitterness, etc..as someone who received an A in her class, I'm here to warn everyone that Cayo is the worst prof I've ever encountered at GW (I'm a senior). She will not improve your writing. If you're looking to write better, or do anything better, you're in the wrong place.
This class is very interesting if you like the topic. The papers are challenging but she is a fair grader and basically tells you what you need to incorporate. Don't take this class if you're looking for an easy A, if you're interested in the topic at all you will do fine!
I absolutely loved this class, as well as Cayo. She was interesting, attentive, and always willing to give extra help whenever needed. While the focus of the class is the Holocaust rather than writing itself, one does become a better writer due to the many papers involved. Only take the class if you are very interested in the Holocaust though.
Very interesting class, focuses more on the Holocaust than writing, but she is very helpful. Rather than focus on writing style and grammar, etc, she focuses on developing ideas, which, when you think about it, should be the objective of a college level writing course.
I worked hard, but I would not have chosen any other class. You learn to conduct good research, to write a lot, and to think about your reader and what you want to communicate to the reader.
When she corrected my drafts, she did nothing to fix my writing, she just kept trying to steer my in a direction I didn't want to go in. She did nothing to help me at all. I tried to focus on a different aspect of the Holocaust, one that I could identify with, and she wanted the papers to focus on her particular interests. Not a good class.
I didn't know what to expect from this class because it is an online class. I really learned a lot and I loved it.
If you are interested in learning about the Holocaust, or looking for a teacher with passion, then this is a good class for you. There is a lot of work and research for this class and your life will be pretty much taken over by work for it. But if you have a good research topic and you care about learning to write well, you'll love this class!
I took this class mainly because it was online on Fridays, which turned out well. However, though Cayo is very knowledgeable about almost everything having to do with the Holocaust, she is not much of a writing teacher. She only wants you to write what she wants to hear, no room for new ideas in this class. Lots of outside work, so be warned.
One of my first intros to GW and was very disappointed. If she doesn't like you, you're in trouble. She's extremely liberal and if don't agree she'll take issue with you.I was interested in learning more about the Holocaust but I honestly didn't. My writing didn't improve either. Her critiques weren't helpful and office hrs. didn't help either.
I love Cayo, but be warned- you can put ALL the effort in the world into your papers and still wind up with a B. It's an interesting class, no doubt, but it is a lot of work. You may not emerge a far better writer afterward, but at least you'll know something about the Holocaust.
ALOT OF WORK. but as long as your put in the effort and do what she wants you'll do well. it'll take up almost all of your time with all the assignments and papers. you dont need to do all the reading though, only those that relate to your chosen topic.
Cayo is an unbelievable teacher. Really understanding and cares about students. This class can be a great deal of work, yet in the end it is all worth it. Cayo outlines exactly the steps to making a proper research paper and she was definitely my favorite teacher of freshman year. Take this UW!
I took UW 20 on the Holocaust and it was great. While it may get depressing to talk about the Holocaust for an entire semester, you learn a lot and come out with a memorable experience. She sits down with you to help you on your essay & corrects them with you to better it. Takes a lot of time and effort to complete the class's 12-15 page papers.
Cayo one of the best professors I have had at GW. She is extremely helpful and very passionate about the Holocaust. Anyone who rated this class poorly was definitely lazy, probably didn't go to class, and didn't put it any effort. The class does require effort and time, you might have to work to get a good grade, imagine that! I LOVE CAYO!
Didn't improve my writing. You pick a topic for your paper, write about it, and then add what she tells you to add. Lecture is useless if your topic isnt related to what she's talking about. You don't use any of the books you buy. Easy grader for the most part, though.
Cayo is awesome. She is a pretty easy grader. Class seems easier than most UW classes besides the fact that studying the Holocaust for an entire semester can be somewhat depressing. Definitely take her if you any interest in the Holocaust.
This UW class is a lot simpler than most others - she doesn't check to make sure you read the readings and attendance, while recommended, is not required. There are two big papers, and the second paper essentially just builds on the first. Depressing topic, but I recommend the class. Cayo is an easy grader.
this class was online and she used a lot of different mediums like interviews, websites, responses, and papers to teach the material. it is an easy class but you can learn a lot about the world and yourself if you read and think about all the material she gives you.
Class is not too hard and do not buy the books - you don't use them and she doesn't check any assigned readings. She may seem nice but she really is mean. Doesn't round up grades, even if you have a 92.99 it is still an A- not an A. Just do what she tells you because she likes to read what she wants, not your own work
I was extremely interested in learning more about the Holocaust... Now I regret taking that class. If you enjoy taking a class that involves being graded based on your argument rather than your writing, then take it. I would not recommend this class for anyone, but if you do, be prepared for constant frustration over her comments on your papers.
She's a lot of work, and you need to put a lot of research work into your final papers, which make up to about 60 percent of your grade. She's a really good evaluator of work, even if she has a paper in mind based on your topic before you write it. She will really work with you to make your paper the best it can be.
Cayo is a cheerful and helpful professor that will willingly work with you to make you a better writer and develop your understanding of the Holocaust. You get out of the class what you put into it.
Cayo is such a great professor and person. She is an amazing resource and will help you without limits. My writing genuinely improved but it didn't seem like a chore. Take her class. You will not regret it.
Actually cares about her students and knows her stuff, took her for intro to womens studies online and she is super accessible, always responds to e-mails and takes the time to actually react to your writing and comments. She is also really understanding and easy to work around. For womens studies she's great.
Professor Gamber is very nice. However, this class focuses more on academic research pertaining to the Holocaust rather than learning about the Shoah itself. In terms of the writing aspect, the process is clear. However, for me, it took a while to understand the way she wanted me to construct my paper, although she's very resourceful and helpful
Cayo is an extremely knowledgable woman, and you cannot try to fool her in any of your papers. Her instructions are often unclear and each assignments ways heavily on your grade. The format of the class focused more on grammar and writing than the Holocaust itself, which was somewhat disappointing. However, Cayo was very helpful when I needed her.
A lot of writing for this class.. follow her instructions and you will be fine. Paper 1 and paper 2 are a big percentage of your grade so make sure you do well.
Cayo is a great teacher in that she is very knowledgable on the topic, but wants everything a certain way. Go in for office hours before submitting paper 1 and paper 2 and she will tell you exactly what she wants
There is absolutely no explanation of assignments. Instructions are unclear, and too broad for what she really expects. Grading is confusing, she crosses things out without explanation of how to fix the problems.
Cayo is a great professor. She helped me learn how to research my topic well and while she is a hard grader, she is willing to help you through drafts and ideas.
Cayo is an amazing professor. This class was not easy but was one of the best courses I have ever taken. My research ability and writing greatly improved throughout the semester. Professor Gamber was always available for extra help and was passionate about the subject and her students.
Amazing profesor. Her assignments are clearly defined and very straight forward. She puts in as much effort as you do. Very fair grader.
Cayo is super nice and really cares about her students and the topic. She's very specific in what she wants, and you should take the two papers VERY seriously. Go talk to her and she'll help a lot. Also, you don't really have to read the books assigned but they're mostly interesting and can help with the papers
I learned so much from Cayo- she is funny, inspirational, and really cares about her job and her students. I didn't originally want to take this class at all, but I'm glad I did. She is sweet and really wants to help. Definitely worth it.
This UW class was great and SO easy. I picked a concentration I loved and the essays never felt like work. Cayo is the sweetest and so helpful.
Wants you to do things her way (including tiny details like word choice) and if you don't you will fail.
Very good teacher. she is incredibly knowledgeable about the subjects she teaches. Her papers are very easy as long as you do what she asks and put in the time required. Compared to other UW's, this is a good one to take.
Gamber is a nice person overall, but her grading methods are specific and demanding. If you don't give her what is required, your paper will suffer. However, I found myself asking her a lot of questions. Don't hesitate to ask questions. If you do, you won't pass. Outside of the papers, the work is easy. Be prepared to spend a lot of time here.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Worst professor ever. She wants everything done exactly her way or you'll get a bad grade and she makes no sense when explaining what she wants you to do, if she even explains it at all. She basically wants you to read her mind and write your paper the way she would. This class is a ridiculous amount of work.
She does not give clear instructions AT ALL. Nothing you write will fulfill her own expectations. Do not expect any helpful feedback, she gives you broad/confusing/vague corrections and then tears apart your paper after you make the corrections. Says everything is "beautiful", goes off on tangents. Does not know how to speak/translate German.
Cayo is a really awesome and caring teacher and her UW is amazingly interesting. However, if you are not interested in studying the Holocaust, do not take this UW. Though sometimes she is confusing, she is extremely open to answering questions and loves feedback about her teaching. She is extremely smart and knowledgable about the Holocaust.
First of all, it's not Professor Gamber. You call her Cayo. Pronounced K-O. This class is about heavy, emotional topics. However, if you put in the work, it is super easy. Cayo is an awesome person to talk to, and she's very humorous in class. Do not expect to be able to do horrible work during the semester and then get an A. Everything builds.
Professor Gamber is a very sweet lady who cares about her students. The class itself is a lot heavier and more difficult compared to other UW classes but she tries to work with it. Her feedback is good but if something is not done in the EXACT way she wants it, it is wrong. Assignments are long and hard but all build up to the final paper.
she has a very specific structure she looks for and if you don't follow it perfectly you won't pass. teaches like a history class, not a writing class. I didn't learn ANYTHING about writing in this class. easy if you're good at following instructions. confusing syllabus. told me my topic in a HOLOCAUST class was "too sad" so I had to change it.
Professor Gamber is a tough grader, but elaborately lays out the grading criteria prior to the due date of the assignment. Use her as a source for your final paper; she is extremely knowledgeable. Put the hard work in, follow instructions, and you will get an A. I loved this class, and would happily take it again. Gamber is amazing.
Professor Gamber is incredibly knowledgable and devoted to the subjects she teaches, and she is an incredible resource for your research paper(s). If you need any help at all, she responds to emails quickly w/ lots of advice and info. If you stay on top of assignments, read blackboard and ask questions, you'll get so much from Cayo and this class
Cayo is an outstanding professor! She is a brilliant writer and knows the content. While some of the assignments were long, she is more than willing to clarify and offer advice. Be ready to learn a lot in a short period of time and take the course seriously!
Cayo is incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable about the Holocaust however she is kind of unreasonable with the amount of work she gives. You work on one research paper all of class however you have to immediately choose your topic and she gives you the concentration to focus/write on. Only take this if you are ready to spend HOURS on assignments
Cayo is very knowledgable and sweet. She helps with any issues that may come up and answers emails very fast. However, compared to any other UW class, this class was extremely difficult. There was way too much work for an introductory/ basic writing class. You will spend AT LEAST 10 hours for every assignment. My final paper was 20 pages.
Cayo is definitely the best teacher I have this semester. She is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject and she works very hard to ensure you succeed. She has put years of work into the course and legitimately changed the way I view school. Not only is she an eloquent, inspiring individual, she genuinely cares about your learning
Ok so this course emotionally drained me because it was exclusively about the Holocaust and you wrote one paper all semester all about one aspect of the Holocaust BUT there is no professor better suited for that than Cayo. She's a really knowledgeable woman who really wants to help her students.
Cayo is outstanding. Class was challenging, but you get out what you put in. Not the easiest grader, but gives great feedback and is willing to help out wherever she can. She is passionate about the topic and her students. We worked on one paper for the semester, but the setup makes it easy to stay on top of assignments (which build up your paper).
Cayo is one of my favorite professors at GW! She is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the Holocaust, and really wants to help her students succeed. All of the assignments are based around the final paper and she gives thorough feedback, so it's pretty easy to get a good grade.
Cayo's an interesting one - what's different about her is she really cares about her students. Assignments aren't too difficult they're just lengthy (especially week 5). An easy A- if you put minimal effort into the class like I did. Make sure you correct your papers according to her edits. Highly recommend!!
Professor Gamber is extremely knowledgeable about the Holocaust. She is an easy grader, but a lot of preparation and work is required for the course. She cares a lot about students. The lectures can be repetitive.
Cayo is THE BEST! She knows so much about the Holocaust, and the class is designed so that you are working on your final paper the whole time. Pick your paper topic wisely because you will be working on it for so long. Cayo is the nicest person ever and by far my favorite GW prof. I have had so far.
In terms of UWs, it's kind of 50/50 professor-wise but Prof. Gamber is very interesting to listen to and you can tell that she is very passionate about what she is teaching. The content of the class is very heavy but there aren't too many assignments and they're easy. As long as you listen to her revisions for the final paper, you'll be fine.
Professor Gamber is very knowledgeable regarding the subject of her UW course and gives great feedback that can either tear your paper to shreds or make sure you work on certain areas. She truly wants your research paper(which is the only paper you work on throughout the course) to be the best it can be. Overall great Professor and good UW.
great teacher. I'm a stem major that needed to take a random class for a writing credit but this is one of the best ones I could have picked. I wouldn't necessarily call it a blow off class but she accepts late work as long as you do it and all projects lead up to the final paper. She holds your hand through the whole thing and wants you to do well
Professor Gamber has been one of my favorite professors so far. Her feedback on your writing is amazing and very detailed. You will definitely become a better writer after her class. We did read a lot of long journals but for the most part the content was interesting.
She is a great professor. She tells you exactly what she wants on each assignment and gives a lot of feedback. As long as you do what she tells you, you will get a good grade. She also has a very interesting background and is incredibly knowledgable.
Professor Gamber is extremely knowledgeable and makes you want to learn more. The assignments can be long and tedious, but if you do them correctly and take the feedback, you will essentially have your entire paper written before the final draft. Gamber is also extremely helpful and always responds to emails quickly. I definitely recommend this UW.
I loved having Prof Gamber! Shes really passionate about the topic at hand, and gives clear instructions on how to do well on an assignment. Workload very managable, and she stays after class for a little to answer questions. Just listen to her and her instructions, and you'll be golden. I'd recommend her course for the UW requirement.
By far the most passionate professor I've ever had. She knows the material well, and all she wants is for her students to share that passion. Come into class with a hunger to learn and a hunger to write, it's worth it. I'm a math/science kid, but I thoroughly enjoyed the research and writing process for the final paper.
Loved Professor Gamber. She is passionate about her teachings and allows for students to have creative writing and open dialogue when it comes to essays and homework assignments. Would 10/10 recommend taking her course.
Extremely kind, genuinely cares about the success and well-being of all her students. Workload could feel heavy at times, but she was extremely accommodating and understanding. I really enjoyed being in her class. She's very easy to contact outside of class and happy to answer any questions. Highly recommend taking a class with her!
Great professor, learned so much and she was a great teacher and really nice person
Good professor, cares about students. Just make sure to do the weekly work as it leads up to the final paper.
Professor Gamber was my favorite of the entire semester! Although it was a very difficult class, it was so interesting to learn about the Holocaust and I enjoyed the workload since Cayo made it so interesting. She is such a sweet lady and I truly wish her the best, I wish she taught more classes.
Oh where do I start with Professor Cayo? She was one of the sweetest and most knowledgeable professors I have had this whole semester. She has such a deep passion for the subject and provides plenty of sources and resources to guide you on the paper. Overall a great teacher and a lovely resource to have your first semester. She's the best!
Way too much work for a University Writing credit. The professor is a sweet lady who cares a lot about her students, she is very knowledgable about the topic and is eager to discuss the nuances. However, this does not entirely makeup for the sheer amount of workload this class entails. 15+ page paper and lengthy time consuming assignments.
