A fabulous teacher who is truly inspiring, knowledgeable, and energetic! Her love of her work is completely evident!
passionate about her field and her students. very helpful during office hours. put a lot of time into the test questions - use specific examples - she loves this. don't worry about using a thesaurus. use simple language to show you know the material.
Can be a bit tempermental, picky, sometimes tells you one thing and does another. Very helpful if you take the time; easy to understand, puts subject into easy to understand terms and offers good examples, but be prepared to do a great deal of writing.
She makes things harder than they need to be and I can't honestly suggest her. She seems to be nice though and tries to offer a lot of help but unless you really love Geography I wouldn't take her.
Cecelia is very straight forward. The material covered is interesting and informative. The exams are tough so if your looking to get an easy "A" dont take this class. It is impossible!!
Terrible! She spent all fall criticizing our class, and was always very angry at something(seemingly our class). DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Consider yourself warned...
The class was very very boring. Despite this fact she wanted the students to participate with comments or questions, nobody did, and this irritated her. So she's get in a bad mood and just stare at us. She's get frustrated. The tests are hard too.
Any student that is interested in learning rather than just collecting a financial aid check or killing time will do well in this class. For those whiners and complainers grow up and be a COLLEGE STUDENT or get a job selling didital phones.
tests are all essay, all questions have to be outlined its very time consuming. She is a hard grader and gets pissed off if no questions are asked. class sucked
This instructor is very difficult and expected to much from her students. I had to drop because I couldn't understand how she wanted her exams answered. I wouldn't recommended her! I tried my best.
Doesn't know an A from an F paper.
Wow people on this thing need to use spellcheck, especially the guy that wants us college students to sell DIDGITAL phones. This class blows, the teacher is a cold prude whom you can tell is loved by no one, Do not take this unless you want GPA reduction
Once again the people that want to be "given" a grade rather than earn one dismiss another excellent teacher at MJC. Yes she is hard, but if you want to be a college student beyond a two year AA degree, she will prepare you. Good teacher.
Am currently taking a course she is teaching with two others. Maybe it is because the others just talk, but she makes sense of the material and even refers to the text. Seems very knowledgeable.
There is no better geog instructor on the face of the planet. Yes, geog is hard, you might actually have to use your brain! She explains what she wants, how she wants it, crystal clear, if you don't understand then you're not listening. She's always there for her students. DON'T PLAGERIZE!!
This insturctor is Grade AAA! She is highly knowledgeable. You exactly what she expects from you from the start. If you ask, she will go out of her way to help. She made what I thought to be a hard class into very clear concepts. I am a graduate of her program and loved every class I took with her.
She very much knows her stuff. If you pay attention, she'll tell you exactly what you need. She doesn't test on book knowledge, but on comprehension. Only take this teacher if you want to learn something :)
Her knowledge is outstanding and she will make you think. She challenges you to form your own opinions, to expand your horizons and think globally. She taught me how to write a college worthy paper!
If you want an instructor who not only has a passion for their field but also knows how to instruct it in a way that will leave you with a ton of retained knowledge, she's the one. She knows geog is not easy for some people. Is there anything she doesn't know??
This teacher is horrible, she doesn't help u at all. All she does is stand and lecture and **** all day at her students. Don't botter taking her.
She is a horrible teacher. She is so unclear on what she want on all of her tests. Every single test you take is an essay test. And grades them very hard. She is the worst teacher I've ever had.
The best geog instructor out there, period. Her classes totally changed my way of thinking, and broadened my horizons. She's clear, concise, easy to talk to and the class is very organized. I highly urge you to take her classes!
Good teacher hard at first but you can get use to her let her know u are interested in the class by speaking up in lectures and asking good questions and she will appreciate it and i love her thinking expecially when she says engineers are the people of our societies.Be prepared to learn alot.
I got a D in class and got a B online. I recommend her online class but not the actual in class one. She was rather a bit too critical for my likings and always seemed mad when she came to class. Online is great though! Quizzes and 3 exams and BOO YAH youre done! DONT PLAGARIZE OR YOURE SCREWED lol@@!!
I hated her class. All tests are esssay and she can't explain why she graded the way she did so you cannot improve next time. I took it online and no matter how many times I read the chapters or lectures, I wouldn't get past a C on her tests.
I think she rocked. If you go to lectures and do some of the reading you will do well. In my class the biggest problem was people leaving early. I got an A in her class. If I showed her a rough draft of an essay first she made comments and it really improved my grade.
She's a VERY nice woman, but her online course was a nightmare. All tests are exam essays, and she was INCREDIBLY unclear and unhelpful when explaining what she wanted to see. Maybe in her regular classes she's fine, but avoid the online version - you will fail, and you won't know why.
I've taken her as an in-class and online. Avoid the online, she's just too disorganized, and takes tooo long to grade essays. She's very nice in person, but beware, she's erratic in keeping office hours. Let her know you're going to stop by, or she likely won;t be there.
Hated her class. She sucked as a professor not clear on what she wants. I did exactly was she asked for spend whole day's in the library studing and I still failed her class. I would not suggest her at all.
What a ****! All she does is yell at her students all class time and compares things in the U.S. to london. If I were you start looking for a new teacher.
A lot of these negative claims about Cecelia are ridiculously exaggerated. She's passionate about what she does and is setting standards to filter out students who won't survive university level demands. How horrible to be referred to as a ***** for simply living up to your obligations.
How did she get her degree? This is one of the worst teachers i have ever witnessed in my short, miserable life. I often think that she has manballs. I'm sorry to say, if u take this class, and like it, you will be a square for the rest of your life.

this teacher is great! she knows her stuff and really wants the best for her students. if you want a true college class experience, take one of her classes
she treats us like graduate students of geography! It's completely unfair to the non-science majors. I do not recommend her at ALL.

This is the worst teacher of all time period. Some people have said she's just passionate about what she does, but that's false, she assumes everyone taking the class is going to be a geog major and farm for the rest of their lives. I suggest never taking her or any of her classes 110% HORRIBLE!
This class is tough, but very interesting! It's not just about maps & locations, it's about earth's processes! You will learn about weather, clouds, volcanoes, earthquakes, rocks, & whole bunch of other things! Be respectful in this class. she is a smart lady who will teach you great things...plus she has taught jr. high & can take you down! :)
I wonder if she knows that not everyone is a geography major. I'm trying to fulfill a GE requirement, we shouldn't be treated like geography graduate students. I mean come on, half of this stuff we won't remember after another semester has gone by.
Cece is simply passionate about her work and hopes to prepare us for four-year universities AND the real world. You can probably BS your way through high school, but I wouldn't recommend it for college. This is a quality professor.
I dont think see is a good teacher. i think see likes to hear her self talk, thats why she goes on and on. She called us geographers, we are not geographers, most of us are only taking her class because we have to. I would not recomend any one to take this class its aweful the class is not just the teacher.
Mrs. Putnam isn't a really good professor...she's boring.
Drop NOW. As a person, she's witty and kind of cool, but she lets her frustration with slackers and lazy students [aka 90% of MJC] get in the way of being a bit more understanding and a lot less demanding. Are you a science major? TAKE IT - you'll appreciate her and learn a lot. Are you just trying to get generals? Pick another class. TEAM C.C.!!!
CeCe...is the most able and wise professor of MJC.Well I won't call her class easy coz. one has to work hard and think critically in order to get a good grade. I got a B+ but Believe me..i had to earn it through brain storming and hard worked essays. If one has a goal and seriousness for future..this professor would help you achieve it. CeCe Rocks.
How can people not pass this class?! Come on, she gives you the exam questions in advance & all you have to do is make an outline! She is very knowledgeable & really prepares students for 4-yr. schools, if you are going to rate her poorly, at least learn how to spell correctly...see is?
horrible! definitely do not reccomend this lady! save yourself the agony, drop now because it is so not worth it
teacher is pretty good, just a lot of work. she gives a lot of notes and information in just one class meeting. Grades hard on the quizes and tests. A lot of reading. its hard to keep up in her class.
College is ot high school and this instructor knows it. These classes are for transfer credit and I feel I will be prepared as a result of this tough and thourough teacher. If you just want to giggle, text message, or get an easy grade you better look elsewhere. If you want to earn a BA or higher at a univeristy this is a teacher for you.
Ms. Hudelson-Putnam is hard but if you let her know that you need help she is very helpful. I have had her for three classes and have liked them all. She does not change her teaching methods even if she is teaching Geography 101, 103 or 105...I am not a Geography major but enjoyed the classes very much.
This professor was such a mess! She was all over the place in her lectures, and she was so unclear about assignments. When you went to her for help she would dismiss your questions with a random unhelpful answer. I am a very good student and recieved a B in her class, the first one in two years. She was a horrible professor.
This teacher was very frustrating! she was not clear or helpful and was very boring. I would stringly reccomend taking this class from another teacher.
This professor is very demanding. Her exams are made up entirely of essay questions and she expects you to read the entire textbook. She randomly goes off in the middle of a lecture about how if you don't read, then you won't amount to anything. I STRONGLY SUGGEST TAKING THIS CLASS DURING THE SUMMER AND WITH A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR.
It's not that this class is hard, it's just that Mrs. Putnam is a very judgemental person. Therefore, if you appear to not take things seriously, even though you only get As and Bs, she will not allow you to achieve so. Plus, she's an absolute b----.
She is a great teacher!! The notes that you take will really help on the exams. There are 3 exams, but she gives you the questions ahead of time. You have to make an outline for the questions, but on the day of the exam you only have to answer 1 question. The outlines you can use on your exam. The outlines help a lot b/c you will know the material.
She is not as samrt is she thinks. She is very biased and tries to condemn the actions of Americans, while constantly talking highly about her experience living in England. Why doesn't she f*cking go back? Although I found her annoying as a person, her class was somewhat interesting and had some good info.
This professor was a joke.
She is an awful teacher. She spends 10% of the class teaching, 80% repeating herself and the other 10% is telling us how worthless we are. The class is not hard, as long as you can stay awake, which is very hard to do. She wants us to ask questions but when someone does she belittles them and makes them feel stupid. She also heavily picks favorites
Very critical professor. She grades essays, papers, and tests hard. Good teacher, but extremely difficult on the grading! She wants her students to use every example in your essays that you possibly can. If you are not a serious student, do not take this course. She is a tough professor and knows her subject well. My advice: Work Hard!
She uses a lot of repetition to show the importance of the subject. Simple assignments and tests are a breeze as long as you reference maps in atlas in essay question. You take a lot of notes but it helps a lot come test time. I reccomend her greatly!
First of all, this is college people, not high school.therefore, it is not going 2 be a piece of cake. Second, u have 2 be a freakin' idiot if u dont pass this class. She talks about whats going 2 be on the test, and then she hands out papers that tell what the exact essays are.Great teacher, a bit scattered.Prepare 4 tests, do work and u will pass.
I love the Earth sciences and was really looking forward to this class. I chose online for the Summer. Big mistake. Questions posted in discussion have gone 4 days without answer, emails and phone calls a week ago have not been returned. A quiz is due in two days and problems with the last quiz still haven't been fixed nor questions answered.
DON'T TAKE HER ONLINE CLASS!!!!! She is MIA. No response to multiple emails and messages on her voicemail DURING OFFICE HOURS!!! The message board is filling up with unanswered questions and people being frustrated. Still, NOTHING!
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME IN HER ONLINE CLASS!! She is not responding to multiple emails and can't be reached during her posted office hours!! She doesn't return voicemails left for her. She better have a good excuse for this one because a student could never get away with it. She hasn't answered a single question on the discussion board in 5 days!!
PLEASE opt for another instructor if you need to take this class. I was looking forward to taking her OL summer class, and was SO frustrated and disappointed. She has a bad attitude to say the least and her grading from student to student makes no sense and isn't fair. But you shouldnt dare confront her about it, you'll only get catty remarks.
I took physical geography. She spends most of class berating her students, making lame jokes, and bragging about how she went to Europe. She teaches to the bottom 10% of the student body which makes for TEDIOUS, REPETITIVE, and BORING classes. I would suggest another teacher. VERY easy... she gives you the test questions weeks in advance.
She is an aewsome instructor. You earn your grade in her class, and she is always helpful when student is serious. I would take more classes from her. I learned so much from her.
I took the online version, it seemed that this class was low on Prof. Putnam's priority list. I received an "A", but was never quite sure where I stood until I saw my transcript grade....
JUST LISTEN TO HER EXPLAIN AN ESSAY AND YOU WILL GET AN A. This class was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo EASy it wasn't even funny. My 3rd grader brother could pass this class.
i was miserable throughout the entire course of this class. the teacher was horrible. she spent 80% of her time making fun of other students and bragging about how great she is because she went to school in europe. she graded totally unfair and I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECCOMEND YOU FIND ANY OTHER TEACHER TO TEACH YOU GEOGRAPHY...TRUST ME!!!
This class required the most work out of any class I have ever taken. Before the first exam 2/3 of the class dropped. I'd recommend only adding If you're planning on majoring in geography. If you do take this class, be aware that she has a very short fuse. You'll think she's adorable until you see the scorn of her temper. Bad semester maybe?
I hate her so much she grades so hard on essays and has got to be the most boring class on campus. I warn everybody don't take her you think u might get a decent grade until the last month then u just fail YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!
Most of the comments already posted here are accurate. Deviates from lectures to berate students at the drop of a hat. Called in sick often, wasting your commute to campus. More interested in self aggrandizement and talking about her scholastic accomplishments than actually teaching. I highly recommend you take another instructor for geography.
The subject matter is tough to comprehend and the notes can be confusing at times. The class is tough, but she does allows you to create outlines for exams, and then lets you use the outlines on the exams. You should be able to do well by using the outlines.
Don't miss her class! Take notes on all of her lectures! If you just write your essays based on her lectures, you will get good grades on your exams. She's really nice and I loved her!
I really like her! Some students thought she bragged a lot, but I felt she was just trying to make the class interesting. I really enjoyed her class; Don't miss her classes though! Take notes on ALL of her lectures. When, you take your tests, be sure to use EVERYTHING you can think of that you have learned about that subject and write many examples
Professor Putnam is very helpful and makes geography interesting. She wants you to pass her class and even helps you make outlines for the exact questions that will be on her exam. She does not require a lot of work. she has quizzes every week but as long as you read you will be fine.
This class was difficult because you must adhere exactly to the standard that she sets. Her grading is terrible but somehow you still learn a lot in this class.
A lot of people have complained about her, but I think she is cool. She's really nice and wants you to try and connect the dots for yourself, not wait for her to spout out an answer. You definately have to cater to how she wants you to write though and you have to use EVERY EXAMPLE YOU CAN THINK OF. I recommend her though.
I can't believe how unhelpful she is. I really want to succeed in her class but I have know idea where I stand. Online class is an absolute joke. If you must take this class do not take the online class.
if you must take her class, DO NOT EVER EVER TAKE HER ONLINE! Her online class is just horrible. NEVER responds and if anything, she'll respond a week later but won't answer your questions. Her grading is very unclear. Grades unfairly and takes forever to do it. Essay exams are ridiculous. especially final. You won't know your grade. AVOID ONLINE!
she is a terrible teacher.she teaches to the essay questions and not the material which makes trying to comprehend the material hard. half the time she spends braging about her time in england, how much smarter the english are compared to us, and how hard she worked to get her masters degree.she gives mixed messages all the time.AVOID AT ALL COSTS
This teacher was the worst online teacher I've ever had! She never responded to questions, made no clarity as to what she wanted from essay questions, and apparently just didn't have the time to even show a little bit of awareness that she had an online class too. It's like I didn't even have a teacher. I got a B, but by the end have no idea how.
I took her online summer class. Overall she is a very helpful teacher as she responds quickly to emails/messages and writes long reviews, or suggestions, on our essays. Her quizzes were pretty easy but she's a hard grader on essays.I never got above a C on any of my essays and ended up getting a C in her class, my first C in two years of college.
Took her on-line summer course, and it was tough!! She was great at responding to emails etc. but some of her tactics seem to set students up for failure. For instance..her tests are not only timed but each question is isolated so you can only see the one, you can skip it but can't go back..ughh! She's also a very tough grader on written work!
Somehow my rating showed up as a smiley face...not so! If you don't absolutely need this class..skip it!!She's tough as nails, the subject matter sucks (unless you love physical science), and you more than likely will end up with a grade you'll be unhappy with. I got a B, but it ruined my 4.0.!!!
You need to have skills writing in class essays for her class. If you are not a very strong writer this class is not for you.
Avoid taking her class at all cost. She talks about her personal life way to much and does not teach from the book. She has you write 3 major in class essays that are 70 percent of the grade.
She's not good at explaining the material and the text isn't any better.Having said that, she is extremely helpful, as long as you ask for the help. She surprised me at how thoughtful and helpful she is! Just ask! The exams are essays to answer complex questions given in advance. A few quizes & a little extra credit. Take her if u need geog101.
NEVER EVER think of taking this class!! she does not explain clearly she makes me take 5 page notes!! TOO MUCH KILLING TREES!! she is RACIST!! IF you have insomnia please do take the class!! thank you! take other GEOGRAPHY TEACHER!! SHE IS A WANT TO BE ENGLISH! THANK YOU THAT IS THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE TODAY!!
It is true that she brags about London. And yes, she takes a whole lot of adderall before lectures, but she does know her stuff. Don't be fooled by her questions to the class though - they are premeditated traps designed to drain your self-esteem if you answer them. "Your life-blood sustains me." Easy to cheat on tests though, and she has a nice bo
Mrs. Hudelson-Putnam is a difficult professor to say the least. Yet, she is helpful when you ASK for help. She doesn't cater to you and give direct answers, but she allows you to figure it out yourself. I liked her grading, because if you get an A on the final, you get an A in the class! GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY!! or else don't expect a good grade.
In fairness, she took over our class after our original professor was AWOL for almost the whole semester. However, she didn't grade us the way she said she would. My other classes were "A"s, including English 101, but I got a "C" in this class. If she graded the way she said she would it would have been an "A". Second worst professor I've ever had.
I learned a lot from her class. Except what I learned oddly enough wasn?t good enough for her essay formatted exams. She gives you six questions and you have to outline ALL of them to only write about one of them. I went to every single class except one. AND STILL GOT A D! To put it simply: don't take Geography. If you need to, take it online.
Tests are all essays, but are pretty easy. She gives you a third of your essay during lecture. Another third is just information from the texts, and the last third is your own ideas. Not a hard class as long as you attend and do your essays. If you get an A on the final, you get an A in the class. Not my favorite, but overall not too bad.
Shes unhappy ending up at MJC after all her EDU. Takes it out on students. Doesnt want you to miss class but ok if she cancels last minute. Strict on Grammer. Exams are all essay, 6 questions and u roll dice to see ur fate. Wants 3 pages. Those who write 2 get better grades. Hates grading. U get ur exam back weeks later. Notes are redundent always.
Took this class online, & still regret doing it to this day. Her tests are difficult because you get each question one by one, and you can't revisit them once answered. I've earned A's in both Eng 101 & 103,and I can tell you her written assignments are hard! She's also a very tough grader. I had 60 units with straight A's until this class.
She was the worst teacher I've ever had! It's the first class I've ever dropped. She was boring, monotone, repetitive and every single class she never failed to brag about how she studied in Europe and about how her brothers make so much money and she's a teacher. She has all the makings of a bitter old cat lady but with a family. Do not take her class!!!!
I was worried taking this class after reading all the comments, but I took the online 5 week course. It's hard, but that's why we're in college;to receive an education. She is helpful & will make time for you.But if you think you can just float along & not do the work or reading, you wont do well. Listen to what she wants from you & you'll do fine.
She was so difficult it was almost impossible to pass this class. IF your looking for an easy A, don't take this course. She expects you to be a geologist in the first week, and assignes way to difficult of assignments for an intro class.
At first she makes the class sound really hard I think just to scare people, but if you attend class, do your reading, and prepare for the essay tests it's not hard at all. She is really helpful and gives great lectures, easy to take notes on. I learned a lot.
She is horrendous! Please do NOT take this class! I had a 4.0, and she gave me my first B. I wrote about everything she asked and more, and she still did not give me an A. She is mean and constantly negative toward students. Lectures are dull to say the least, so again, do NOT take this class.
I took two of her classes and got D's both. This was entirely due to my awful skills at attending classes. Regardless, she has excellent outlines, is always willing to help a student, and is somewhat attractive. Only problem is that she gets caught up on her students lack of attention and hard work. But that would irk me too.
Tough! However, you will need to be exposed to this type of toughness if you plan to transfer to a 4 year or Grad School. This is a real college course! Not for you time wasters checking Facebook in class. Tests and assignments are all essays. Buy the books and study! I got an A. I like her style, no BS. Pay attention to the syllabus.
Prior to this class I thought it would be easy... not the case. This is the most confusing class, she'd told me I was one of the best writers in the class and I got a D. She doesn't have tests she has essays which I prefer generally however she grades harshly. Do not take this class.
She grades you off your in class essays. I took the class twice and worked hours and hours on this class all to get two D's. I would never recommend anyone taking this class.
Grades off your in class essays and grades harshly. By far her class is not worth taking.
A few things to note. 1) Cece is an excellent educator and the science division dean. 2) Lectures are long, through, and the primary material for her written midterm and final. 3) Your grade in her class is either your standard 90% is an A or the grade you receive on the final whichever is higher. 4) The final is 5 pages min hand written for an A.
Cecilia is awesome! She may grade a little harder on essays, but that's because she wants you to prove you really understand the subject. She grades assignments quickly and the quizzes are fairly easy. Do the work, and it'll pay off.
Excellent teacher really cares for her students.
I did not like this class at all. She was very unclear throughout the lecture. Looking through my notes makes me confused because each topic is in different places and made it hard to understand. I never wanted to go to that class, it felt like it last 3 hours.
I really appreciated the difficulty of this class, this is what college courses are supposed to be like! In high school I was used to getting high grades without even trying and so far MJC has been more of the same. I feel like this class was challenging, but if you are willing to do the reading, and ask for feedback, it is not impossible.
She was very easy. her notes are little confusing to follow. She gives 3 assignments. 2 exams and 1 final. she is not a tough grader at all. As long as you pick up what she says and follow her reading you should get an easy A.
Explains the course material well, thoroughly, and in a decisive manner. Lectures are interesting and easy to learn with normal attention applied at a college level. Excellent teacher!
Horrible teacher. Her essay prompts are so unclear and worth almost your entire grade. She takes forever to grade anything and doesn't respond to questions. She posts assignments late, but doesn't extend the deadline. I learned absolutely nothing.
I very much enjoyed her lectures, and it was easy to respond in class, but all of her exams are essays. I've never done well on essay exams, so this class was tough for me. Also, read your book and bring your atlas!!
Professor Hudelson is a great, but tough instructor. All tests are essay questions, but she allows you a page of notesoutlines to use on each test. Even with these notes I found that answering the question was still difficult. So make sure to read every chapter and attend every class. Study, study, study! and get the help you need when offered.
She was not very good because her lectures didn't make sense at times and you could tell everyone in the class was not interested in the lecture cause rarely anyone ever talked in her class to ask questions. Would not recommend her at all.
WAY too much work for an online class. Too many essays and each single spaced. She takes absolutely forever to grade anything so you do not what she likes or doesn't. Would not take an online with her again.
You never really know what she wants. She is a tough grader, grades late, and will critique your work a LOT expecting you to have known what to do in your assignment. So if you follow her instructions, expect that she wants more than what she is asking for. You will never know! Plus, a LOT of reading in this class! I wouldn't recommend her!
She basically outlines every exam for you and if you take good notes and keep up on the reading you will be fine. She grades very fairly and always has good feedback for why you got the grade you did. You have to put in some work, but this is a college course! She is very clear about what she wants in the essays. I learned a lot.
Online class was not structured to be user friendly. Multiple videos that didn't always seem to be applicable. All over the place. I got comments back on my discussions that were to a student with a different name. Comments not clear so not helpful for improving work.
On her assignments rarely matches the pages that she assign with the pages that we need to cover. She is also late to grade assignments. she always expect to find on the writings I don't know what because for more information that I add to my papers, there was always something that she says is missing, even though I cover all her questions.
worst teacher ever! grades very hard, and is not clear at what she wants on her essays especially the final where it matters most. Not clear, not helpful. take it with someone else!
I thought she was a pretty great teacher.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. Do not take class with her. She does not know what she want a student do.
Horrible, horrible, horrible teacher ever. Don't take class with her if you want to be successful. Horrible teacher.
Her number is zero. The most confusing and not helpful teacher. She even could not help herself.
If you're a geography major, then she's perfect. Otherwise avoid at all cost. Way too much assignments for a GE class.
Professor Hudelson offers tons of information during lectures, so missing class shouldn't be regulatory. Quizzes are pretty easy, but be prepared to read to stock up on information for the essays. You can outline the essays (multiple options), but it's never certain which one you will write on (except for the final).
Stay away unless you're a geography major. Too many assignments for a GE class!!!!
This teacher is very vague about what she wants from you on assignments and to add salt to the wound, she is a very tough grader. Made us buy a book that I opened one time. It was an accelerated class too, which added to the difficulty. I got a good grade but I would not take this teacher again.
By far the WORST professor I've had in my college experience. She was extremely disorganized and unhelpful. She missed class about 7 times without warning and the multiple lengthy assignments she gave were very vague and graded harshly. I quit going about when the class was about 3/4s over because there was literally no point.
Worst of the worst honestly I don't know how MJC could allow this teacher to continue teaching. Most unhelpful, vague on what she wants on assignments, harsh grader, honestly made me hate school-does not respond to emails, contradicts herself, posts assignments late and always behind on grading. Take it in person w/ diff professor anyone but her..
I loved her lectures, but unfortunately I don't have more positive things to say about this class. There is a ton of reading. Test questions and essay prompts are very difficult to understand. She never returned my emails throughout the semester. She is inconsistent and didn't return our papers and assignments until right before the final.
She is a nice teacher but goes through notes too quickly and often has confusing and vague lectures. Offers large in class essays for midterms and grades harshly.
TAKE ONLINE. Failed the class the first time in person-bad lectures, tries to motivate you to read, but I just felt like she was trying to mother us. Online, lectures are always available, and there is a discussion every week with three 40 q quizzes and 3 intense papers. She is an amazing person-ask about her past work! So interesting!
Got an A in the class and never read the textbook. Each class has a lecture of approx 3-4 pages of notes. If you keep your notes organized and review them for quizzes/exams, you'll do fine. Quizzes are generally easy. Exams are a lot of work but she explains how to get an A. Be sure to use lots of maps from Text/Atlas in exams and list examples.
If you don't learn good off of lectures do not take her class, she explains things very fast and just dumbs down what is in the textbook. She expects you to read the textbook daily. For her quizzes she usually gives you terms to study, also for test she will give you a guideline on what you need to get an A. She is easy yet hard on certain things.
I love Cece, she is a great instructor. she grades hard but its for your own good. If you pay attention in class you will enjoy her stories and shes funny! great class overall.
Super hard class, the midterm and final prompts are very unclear due to her un-organization. I took her online and based on her modules they was misspelling, un-aligning topics, and she would not release all the material. The only good part was that her quizzes were multiple attempts and the same questions were produced every time.
Super hard class but great teacher, works with you if you need help. Helpful with midterm essay, if you do your homework discussions and quiz. Make sure you also read. She is far the best geo teacher I had. Learned A lot.
She did not stick to the syllabus and the papers she expected were ridiculous. She wanted you to explain everything in your own words and not use sources. Having not taken a science course before this was extremely difficult. The midterm was expected to be 1200-2000 words, I used 3 sources and received a B. Her discussion posts were ridiculous too.
Took this teacher for Geog 101 and Geog 105 online. Both classes were great. She tells you what you need to know exactly for tests. She gave excellent feedback on papers on turnitin for the online class. Online class had weekly modules and discussions which were very informative and quick to finish. I recommend her to any student.
Horrible, a geography teacher who denies human effect climate change... Leave it to a Community college in the valley to higher a global warming denier! DO NOT TAKE HER. She doesn't care about her students and just likes to talk about herself.
She expects you to explain everything in ur own words, how is that possible Cece? It is not English class, it is science class with so many technical words. And she does not know how to use Turnitin, English teachers said that if you get GREEN color of similarity, it did not mean u plagiarized, there r just some words that impossible to rephrase.
From the way she conducted her class, she is not a happy person. Do not even try to impress her, the more you put on your paper, the worse your grade will be because she is never satisfied of your papers. If I already knew all about basic geography, why would take this call again? Obviously, she is not the type of willing to help student to succeed
Cece is great! This last semester was my first at Modesto Junior College and she was my professor for two different courses. She is a great teacher and she is very passionate about geography and many other subjects. I am disappointed I finished my other requirements at Merced because I would have much rather had her! I learned so much from her!
Never happy with assignments and weekly posts. Very vague on what she wants, grades to hard. I feel like she is trying to push people into geo majors when most of us are taking the class to get the gen ed requirement done. If you want a hard mean grader and a paragraph or why your assignments are wrong then take her class. Good luck.
A geography major might appreciate the workload she assigns, but if you're not then think twice before taking her. I took her summer online class, and kept an A for the most part but ended with a B. She didn't take late work (not even a min late), and simply posted a link to her syllabus on the comment. I would've understood, but still quite rude.
I think I wasn't graded fairly and I don't feel she liked me and I don't know why. She didn't believe me when I was telling the truth. She hurt me real bad.
Her tests are essays but she let's you do in depth outlines, so they aren't that hard. If you start out rough but end solid, she'll give you a higher grade (let's say you start out with a C but get an A on the final, she'll give you the A). Sometimes she is a little hard but nothing unreasonable. She truly does care about the students.
As usual, it's the student's responsibility to read and do expected work, but it took all of my time. She's great with student wellness, but her note-taking methods are so confusing, that I can't go back and remember which notes I've written down. It was a tough class, but I managed.
I learned a lot from this class. There is quite a bit of work, but it is not very difficult. She is very kind and will work with you if you need guidance. If you're willing to put in the effort, you will pass! Definitely recommend :)
Her three exams are essay format, but she gives you the prompts weeks in advance and allows you very detailed outlines. some of these exams are take homes and other are in class. She relates the course material to current events which makes you remember what you've learned. She is open for conversation and accessible outside of class.
Such a difficult class to take, even with following all the directions. She holds no mercy with grading and she expects you to complete demanding prompts. If you enjoy a challenge, take her course. If you like your social life, don't even think about it.
When writing the midterm & final exam paper, I followed her criteria. When she graded them she had a whole list of things that she said I should've added but it wasn't listed in the prompt for the essays. I guess we just have to read her mind? That's how quizzes were too. None of the answers to her ?'s were in the book!
I took her class online, she misspelled a lot. About 3 quizzes/week. Even following her directions doesn't get you a good grade on her essay, I missed points on my midterm for not adding pictures which weren't required or asked for, it was an essay. Still don't know what I got wrong on some quizzes she said we'd see after each test due date past.
Expects too much, really picky with her grading even if when following her prompts and guidelines , she has way too many assignments that I think are unnecessary unless youre a geography major
Earth Science is my major so I was excited to take her class. I just dropped it. First time I asked for 1 extension for health reasons. She led me to believe a Dr note was sufficient, then said I had to file for disability. My other teacher responded "Hope you feel better get it in ASAP". Need to take history? Martin Curtis is awesome.
Learning is supposed to be about learning. Instead this teacher is just controlling, she wants it done her way but she's vague about what she wants. She needs to learn how to be empathetic to a normal degree.
I wouldnt take this class again. Her quizzes werent based on her lectures notes. She was vague but expected a lot. Its a GE class but doesnt treat it like one
Cecilia's lectures are informative on a wide range of topics. Often times students will have an interesting question regarding geography and Cecilia is able to give great and interesting answers. She knows a lot of interesting things about life and is one of the best parts of her lectures!
she started off decent but if she is in a bad mood then shes very annoying. she expects things to be turned in at the beginning of class so dont be late by even five minutes or she counts it as late. she gets upset when students dont care as much as she does
She's not lenient at all with her rules and dates. She takes forever to answer emails and she posted the final about 24 hours before it was due. It's a ton of boring work and not worth the credit
I have taken two classes from this professor and she is very passionate about her subject. She wants you to be engaged in her subjects and make a personal connection to what you are learning. Yes you have to read the book (thats why you buy it right?). She teaches you how to write and offers so many opportunities for help if you attend class/care.
This is a great instructor to have if you are good at mind reading. She absolutely does not care what YOU learn or what YOU know. The work is not hard she just wants you to use the exact "word" that she wants! no telling what that is until she grades. Takes a very long time to grade work so you have no clue until it is too late!
I felt like throughout the semester I could not figure out what she wanted. Shes a tough grader. It was hard to know exactly what she wanted to see in each discussion. She also takes very long to grade everything and for mid-terms she prefers that you use her lectures instead of the book, but I found the book easier to understand and more helpful.
She takes forever to grade your work. Does not respond to questions in a reasonable time period and when she does she makes you feel dumb. When she finally does grade the work she will write you an essay on what you did wrong but give no solution or clue on what to fix. Overall, just read the book and dont ask questions, shes a real grump.
Professor Hudelson Is a great professor. She was flexible with the due dates during midterms and finals, something most professors wouldn't do. Offered extra credit outside of class on some occasions. Really enjoyed the class.
Would not take this class again. She doesn't really help you learn at all; she draws a lot of pictures in the notes that don't make sense or help with the exams. Belittles you if you get something wrong. She also has a really bad attitude most of the time so if you can deal with all that then this class is perfect for you.
Super tough grader!! I rarely got full credit for anything! I took Intro to Geography online course and it was the hardest class I've ever taken!!! She jumps right in and expects you to know what the book is talking about! The final was a 2,000 word essay! Good luck!
This teacher expects you to know everything after reading the book. Also grades super hard i barely got full credit for anything and she is rude. When i asked her questions she would just be rude and just made you seem like an idiot. I would not recommend this professor at all.
I am not a bad student. I show up to class and put in the work as well. I typically get full credit on all assignments for in person and online courses but this teacher is like Thanos and snaps away your grade just like that. I never received full credit on any of the assignments and she failed me on the final paper. BEWARE, DELUSIONAL EXPECTATIONS
Don't take her. Hardest teacher I have ever take.
I had her at Stan State and she was really nice. She came off as mean but ended up just being how she was. Extremely nice highly recommend coming to class sometime she does a sign in sheet on random days.
P Hudelson really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. Some may say she isn't clear with assignments but as long as you study, when writing your mid/final papers you won't miss the little details she hoping for. Unlike a lot of professors, I like that she pushes you. She really helped improve the way I learn. Hard but I got an A
Second class I have taken with this professor and I enjoy her very much. You have a lot of reading to do, two mid-term papers and a final. As long as you read (which is a lot), it's an easy A. She makes you work for it but I like that because you leave with actual knowledge of the course.
The sheer volume of work would justify her course as a 5 unit class. The weekly "post" are equal to research papers. Boring delivery and hacked up learning aids that make synthesizing material chaotic. Points are taken for arbitrary reasons even if the question was answered correctly. Boring and confusing.
I am taking her online Geography class and it is the hardest class I have taken. She expects us to know how to read a map. She assigns way to much homework. There is something due every Sunday. Quizzes and week posting and a map assignment. The most she's assigned so far is 13 assignments due one day. 11 Quizzes, Week Posting, AND Map Assignment.
This instructor should not be allowed to teach a summer course. The grading is completely harsh for a five week course. The amount of work was not hard, but no clear understanding of what was expected. Essentially you are told what to read then breakdown map assignments with no other instruction! That is not teaching.
For an online course, this is very assignment heavy. If you take this course during summer/online beware that all assignments are not posted on the calendar right away. The worst part was having the final so close to all the other assignments that require a lot of time. Map assignments are hard to get full points. I barely passed this class.
Unclear instruction lead to never receiving full credit. Her grading takes over a week in a 5-week course and feedback was no help at that time. Overall, very unclear teacher with ridiculous expectations.
There is so much work in this class. I hardly ever got full points on the discussions. They are so long they might as well be papers. She gives very detailed feedback however a lot of what you get marked off for is not in the prompt anyway. She wants you to read her mind. This was an extremely difficult class.
Im usually not one to write a bad review on anyone, But this Professor was disrespectful in her emails to me. I asked help through email, and she responded in a disrespectful way. She emailed me back because she knew she made a mistake by her response. I also did a extra credit which she didnt grade because it wasnt in her modules. Ridiculous.
Let me start off by saying, that summer courses are at such a break neck pace, and I'm sure this is as stressful on Professors as students. I will say Professor Hudelson gives in depth feedback in her grading. That compliment aside, she is not very responsive or friendly when communicating. Which to me is huge in a online setting. Avoid if you can.
AWFUL! If you can take ANY other professor for this class, do it. I absolutely do not recommend this course/professor during the summer especially. Almost impossible to perform well. Feedback was often not helpful, assignments were crazy long, not allowed to use citations so word length is hard to attain. Not responsive to emails.
SHE SAYS SHE GIVES EXTRA CREDIT BUT GAVE ME NONE. I EVEN EMAILED HER ABOUT IT, SHE SAID TO BAD. TRY HARDER IF YOU WANT BETTER GRADE. She expects you to be as smart as her. I read the whole book and she still doged me and said I didn't. read 6 chapters and 4 chapters a week in summer. TAKE AT OWN RISK. RUDE EMAILS. NO GOOD
This class is really hard to take online especially for a summer course. She does state in the syllabus that you need to study like 10 hours a week for the class. Its pretty hard but shes really nice she had zoom meetings alot and always answered my emails quick.
This Professor is a hard grader. She does give feedback on your assignments though. You will be using your book.
Her class was good I liked the materials books were super cheap on amazon rental. I enjoyed the maps and the ability to give my interpretations. She never said my answers were wrong she was very kind. Tests were easy if you read the book plus you get 2 trys on most. Hard to fail.
Hudelson is wonderful. She has you create an outline for your final papers which basically ensures an A in her course. She is always available for help outside of class. I enjoyed her teaching style so much that I took three of her courses and did well in each.
She gives you the gade she wants not deserve. She recently emailed me saying she couldn't give me "any extra special treatment " When everything was granted to everyone. Also didn't grade an assignment of mine. told her bout it & she said she couldn't accept ANY MORE late work, the work I referred to was emailed to her 1 DAY after assign was due.
Hudelson is a good professor and she really makes you work for your grade. There were two midterms that were about 1500 words long each and a final that was also an essay format. She gives good feedback, but the feedback is hard to understand because it doesn't correlate to the prompts. Homework consisted of weekly discussions and quizzes.
Science is not my thing so I had some trouble maintaining interest in course but Professor Hudelson is good. Major textbook use. Midterm and final are both 1500-2000 word essays. What's good is that she will go over every prompt for the exams and will outline them and tell you what she expects for in order for you to pass.
The final and midterms make you write long papers without using any sources and it all has to be in your own words. Im not a fan of this, I would personally rather take a test than write a bunch of pages without using sources.
Shes so impersonal & doesnt even teach anything. Canvas modules consist of like 10 videos & articles were expected to go through plus read the textbook. Weekly work is an easy quiz and a post. Her lack of clear criteria and what shes looking for is SO irritating. Takes points off for not elaborating when she didnt even say what to focus on.
I'm not one to complain about teachers but she is TERRIBLE. Beyond picky, wants you to magically read her mind to include the information she wants, has so many lectures and videos to watch, yet NEVER ACTUALLY TEACHES. Only interaction you get is the nitpicky comments she leaves on the work you submit, a month later when she finally grades it.
Would rate a 0 if I could. Seriously one of the hardest classes I've taken because of the professor. She takes forever to grade, gives way too much homework, and expects you to already know everything. Little to no guidance, and would usually take a while to respond to emails too. Don't know how I passed...
The worst MJC teacher I've ever had. I'm a straight-A student and make it a priority to complete assignments exactly how they are questioned/assigned. This is the only teacher I've ever encountered that does not grade you on what you learned and included in your correct answers but rather corrects you on things that were not asked of. AVOID HER!!!!
I highly recommend ANY OTHER TEACHER for all courses she teaches than taking her. She grades your assignments so badly and even if you answer the questions, she docks you for not including things THAT WERENT EVEN ASKED. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER, you have been warned!!!
The best possible advice I can give you is to STAY AWAY FROM THIS TEACHER. If you're considering any class that she teaches, pick anyone else but her. You could literally answer all questions correctly and she still gives you a C at best for not including things THAT WERENT EVEN ASKED!! For the love of god just save yourself and avoid her classes!!
Her grading is ridiculous. Make sure you do amazing on all assignments because she hardly gives extra credit(shes a tough grader so good luck) than the final is half your grade she grades very strictly and ruins your grade. She also doesnt lecture that often which she only randomly did.
I did weekly assignments within an hour. Her midterms and finals are tough. She has things that she wants you to address but does not tell you, but she will give you all of that feedback if you email her. There is a weekly post and quiz. You can use the textbook on the quiz, and there is no memorization of maps. Very little extra credit.
Cece Hudelson is an excellent professor. Her class is not an easy A, but you will learn and retain much more from her than you would from the average professor. She has high expectations, and the work is rigorous, but that's because she requires you to learn. If your goal is to learn from a skilled professional, take her class. You won't regret it.
I was having a hard time with the class because of personal reason, and Professor Hudelson was very understanding and always readily available to answer any questions. She helped me pass the class even when I was sure I wouldnt. She is a great professor, and I would highly recommend anyone to take her class.
Loved the class, recommend taking fall/spring so it doesn't feel like too much. I recommend you get a paper copy of the book for map references. Class is very clear layout. Weekly CH quizzes and discussion posts. Midterm and final essay prompts are given ahead of time so you could submit draft for feedback. Very interesting class. Highly recommend.
This was my first geography class and I feel her expectations required a level of knowledge well beyond that. Her expectations weren't clearly outlined until she spent 1000 words grading my 1000 word essay. She offered extra credit that required attending a zoom meeting with no other option to those who couldn't attend yet it was an online course.
Took 7 week course, this is an intro geography class and she expects you to know a lot and be able to explain processes very thoroughly in your essays and discussion posts. She gives you very general questions and expects you to talk about every point she wants (even tho she doesnt mention these topics in the question) do not recommend!
Condensed class, 11 chapters so far in FOUR weeks! Do not use more than two words from the text/lectures because that is plagiarism. Super quiz happy and seems to forget that this is a basic intro class to geography, my upper division geography class taken at Stan State was easier and more laid back than this junior college class, what a surprise!!
Took this class online, we just had weekly quizzes and sometimes discussion posts. There is a lot of videos/articles in the modules. The teacher hardly posts any announcements, there isn't really any contact from her, you will receive feedback on the discussion posts but other than that, you won't hear from her.
Has confusing instructions and wants students to include concepts that weren't mentioned in her instructions. Responds fast if you message her however is passive aggressive about it. She wants you to explain concepts without using too much of the textbook but gets mad when you don't????? If anyone knows what that means??
Don't expect to learn anything when she just gives a hundred videos to watch. The workload is not that bad but when you have a paper or project due, she is the toughest grader but you can't learn much from just watching videos.
She is an awful teacher. She expects you to know everything about Geography even though people take this for their GE. She gives the same feedback for every assignment, so not much feedback. She make you buy this book off Pearson and she doesn't teach. So you are paying money for you to teach yourself. Her Midterm and Final as horrible. -1000000/10
WOW, just wow. This professor sucks. The material each week is just a bunch of links, half of them being dead links. No lectures, nothing telling us what we are supposed to pay attention to. And then they grade with an iron fist. You can tell by reading the feedback that they did not even read your assignment. I am amazed this person has a job!
No lectures were really given. Just links to videos or articles only along with some old Zoom recordings. When assignments were given out, I followed them and somehow still managed to get points docked still. Huge points too like at least 6 and up points. She expects us to be professionals. Dont expect that youd get good scores on any assignments.
Confusing. Unclear. Made several out of pocket comments in class on students' socioeconomic status and geographical themes. Avoid as much as you can - puts out a facade on the first day and isn't really like it. I'd avoid this class if I could go back in time
She gave a lot of busy work. She assigned many things to read and watch and wouldn't quiz us on it. On quizzes it's frustrating because shell have you refer to a page from the 2 textbooks she requires, and the numbers won't match up with the content of the quiz. Just really frustrating. Look for other options before settling.
She is a very tough grader, and the lectures/notes that she posts do not align with the assignments. She is also not the best at giving constructive feedback and gives off a passive attitude in her comments.
A very tough grader, this professor is one of the most strict ways a paper or discussion post can be graded. She expects you to expand on the topic and expand further and further. Every time my assignments were graded there was always something to say about them even though I thought there was really nothing else to expand on.
very tough grader. always critiquing what you wrote. Constantly wants to go into more and more detail about everything.
The professor did not grade a single written assignment until two days before the final was due. There was not enough time given to actually review the feedback given and adapt the feedback for the final. Grading on written assignments was very strict and contradicted the guidelines given.
There was only at most one discussion post and a quiz a week, but the number of articles and videos she posted took up most of your time. Her grading isn't very clear, and she always expects you to expand more on topics. She left a lot of feedback on essays, though usually summed up as "expand more."
Tough class with a very particular professor. Stay organized, use the textbook, and try Unstuck study ai alongside other study tools to manage the workload. Not the easiest GE, but doable with diligence.
Taking this class is not for the weak. The teacher will inform you on how she wants the midterm and not to worry about it because we aren't in a “English” class but yet her critiques are worse than the English class that I had just recently taken.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR. Takes forever to grade and then when finally grading, removes points for reasons that are completely off-topic and weren't asked by the assignment. By the time you realize your grade is struggling it's too late.
If I could rate her a -10 I would, honestly she grades hard, also has a confusing grading structure, she tells you what the prompt is, you answer the prompt and everything it mentioned, and she still has something to say, "add this and that", but never adds what she wants into the question. She does this all the time, good luck getting a good grade
Just a bad professor overall. Takes forever to grade. Uses nonsensical criteria for grading. Quizzes often have the wrong answers and she takes forever to fix, or doesn't fix at all. Sometimes there's errors with grades and she acknowledges that they're wrong and never fixed them.
I really loved this class and Professor Hudelson. I feel the criticism of her grading is somewhat warranted, but I still got a good grade. She wants to help. I never felt abandoned or left in the dark, she's just very hands off, and if you need help you can just email her.
I had a lot of trouble with her, particularly with essays and the reading. For the essays, her main feedback every time is to "expand more" on a topic. The criteria seem simple on paper, but she expects you to write about things that are not asked for or mentioned. There are also LOTS of reading, articles, and videos that take up half your time.
This professor grades incredibly slowly, some assignments not being graded until months after they're turned in. Will give you a 6-part question with a 1200 word limit then give a bad grade for not going into more depth. Unrealistic expectations and harsh grader. Wouldn't take her again even if my degree depended on it.
