Awful. She doesn't teach, but tries to make the power point presentations teach for her instead. Eek, no.
lower level classes are harder, but in upper level classes, no tests! just book reviews and reports...very easy to approach

Tests are right out of the notes. Not mulitiple choice, but if you study notes, you will be fine. Always willing to help whenever you need it.

I Had Professor Manrique for seven courses over three years and I found her to be extremely helpful and I really enjoyed her teaching style. One of the smartest professors around. If you want to learn something, take her courses.
Her upper level courses are really easy, no tests, just two book reviews and a presentation. GREAT TEACHER, knows her stuff. You learn a lot

I've taken Manrique for five different classes. Her upper level classes are easy. No tests. Just a few papers. She really knows her stuff. Very helpfull!!
Obnoxious and takes a personal bias against students. She asks students to be respectful of her situations but is not so respectful of student situations.

Had her twice now. Tests are a royal pain, hard to study for, and even harder to pass. Once you are on her good side though, you're in like flint. Go ahead and take her...just be prepared to work for your grade.
Bairly teaches in class, is not helpful at all in the learning process. Expects students to memorize class material, and reading material. Never tells you what is expected either. Second worse teacher I've ever had.
She is very good in her advanced classes, such as government and politics classes. No tests, very little homework. Only 3 assignments the entire semester.
other than office hours is completely unreachable. Emails with questions that aren't "sent in time" (whatever that means...) will not be answered or are answered with something like "too late; hope you figured it out" questions are numerou, but no answers will be given...
great teacher. same routine easy to adjust too. study EVERYTHING she writes on powerpoint and you are fine....Drawback:have to attend class although it is 25% of your grade and you get almost a guaranteed A in that 25/100% of the class.......also pop current news quizzes they suck....take her
These are super easy! She is very clear and all you do are two book reports and a presentation, which is not hard at all. And no tests in her upper levels. She was very understanding of a personal issue I had and even gave me an extension. Take the uper levels, stay away from the lower. I KNOW!

Not awful...she is helpful for the most part, and there are always about 15 free points that she gives you on tests. She tests you on what was in class, so don't miss any! You need to keep up with current events stuff too...
Take her upper 300 classes. Take African, Middle Eastern, Asian Gov't and Politics, etc. These classes are easy! Just show up to the class, watch the videos! Only 2 book reports, which are good reads! Offers lots of extra credit! One country project. In her lower level classes, tests are HARD!

Does not know how to teach effectively and cannot communicate ideas well. She means well, but that isn't teaching. Very passionate about things she thinks are important, but other wise, could care less.
It's not an easy class but as long as you work hard you will do okay. She gives tons of extra credit opportunities and is very helpful if you are struggling, as long as you go find her and talk to her about it.definitely recommend taking her as long as you have the time to put effort into the class.
Hard to understand, makes you feel stupid and just rambles on and on about the Philippines. Writes illegibly on powerpoint slides and is extremely boring. If you can take anyone else, do it!!
She is a pretty good teacher. You do need to take good notes on Powerpoints, but she gives review sheets to follow. Tests are a lot of writing, and get a little long, but not too bad because she gives extra points. I am taking her again next semester. I would recommend her.
Picks favorites in class!! Very unclear at times especially with assignments, and very BORING!!! Tests cover a TON of material and her grading is some what difficult. She means well but can make you feel pretty stupid at times.
Her lower level classes have hard test...i will not lie. But, she offers tuns of extra credit, often without having to any work (through class participation, etc.). Overally, she has a wealth of knowledge and knows so much. Always a pleasure!
I was very interested in this course, but Marique ruined it. Horrible overall professor, evaluates on personal convictions, and has some sketchy past. Overall, possibly the worst professor I have ever had, and I am extremely interested in politics and the topics she teaches.
She was terrible. I was a 3.5 student coming into this class and I recieved my only F ever. She is totally ****, plays favorites, unfair grader, the list goes on. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS WOMAN. If you have an opinion other than hers, you lose.

This is the worst professor in the whole department. My class had singalongs and daily work sheets and other middle school things, too bad the class was aweful and hard.

She a pretty nice lady, but her tests are crazy hard, very detail oriented, but on our first test everybody got 20 bonus points. I won't take her again.
Manrique is a very good professor and you are almost guaranteed to learn a lot in her classes, but her tests are way too difficult. There is no multiple choice and the questions get way too specific (you write an answer thinking its perfect, but you get it all wrong). Take her if you want to learn a lot and want to study even more.
she is super knowledgeable on the american government, but she expects you to come in knowing it all too. she's very difficult. she can be nice, dont get me wrong, but she needs to lighten up a bit. HINT: READ THE BOOK!!!
Dr. Manrique is a very knowledgable professor, her tests are hard but if you like American gov't like me, then you won't do to horribly. If you absolutely hate the political system, you may take it as boring and difficult. Manrique is also very helpful.
you can easily earn points in her class, she just adds like twenty points to everyones test scores and gives you points just for coming to class, plus there is extra credit opportunities.. she also knows her stuff.. shes kinda hard to understand sometimes although, and her tests are kinda hard and the lectures get realllly long and boring
Manrique really knows her stuff. She has been around government throughout her life, and you will learn a lot by taking her class. Yes, her tests are extremely difficult but she does "curve" them or add points to every test. If you are a Poli. Sci. major than you should for sure take her. You will really learn a lot!! But you will have to study.
I hated her Women In Politics class! She let us have take home tests except they were 25 short essays and 1, 3-5 page essay. She also assigns a large group project for the second half of the semester and gives very general and unhelpful instructions. Plus her voice makes my ears bleed.
I hated this class. She definately knows her stuff but the accent is super annoying and hard to understand. Her tests are hard but if you study you wont do too bad. She plays favorites on those who participate in class. If you have politics and the government I strongly suggest taking someone else.
not a very helpful professor, v. dificult and excessively long exams (even though they are take home), RIDICULOUS group project that's not reasonable for a 200-level class. did i mention also she's not helpful? don't bother asking for clarification on exams or anything because she won't give it to you.
Dr. Manrique is a nice woman, but you don't want to make her upset! Her classes are difficult and if you get a good great in them, you have to work your tail off. She is very well educated however, and really knows her stuff!
Tests are VERY HARD. Take all the notes you can- every word that she says!!!! In class she preaches and you have to keep up with her. Grades very hard on easy homework. Projects and some homework have vague directions. Turn in notecards with attendance so have to go. Didn't discuss readings in class so didn't have to keep up with them.

This was the worst political science class I have taken. I plan my schedule, as a pol sci major, in a way that I never have to take another class with her again. It was the worst experience of my college career. Not to mention she grades arbitrarily because she gaave the worst presentation I have ever seen a good grade.
Manrique was a really really hard teacher, she'd usually say one thing and express a different idea in an email. I would never want to take her again. She makes her products harder than she needs too, and it's only a entry level course...she has daily points so you can't miss it either. don't take her
I really enjoyed this class, and Dr. Manrique is a good teacher. Her tests can be tough, but I NEVER got any homework for that class.
Very good professor; very little out-of-class work necessary for grade. She is incredibly knowledgable about comparative politics, and really took advantage of the fact that we had 8 countries represented in our section (in a good way). Exam is tough, but gives points away like candy; essay portion will receive a good grade if you write a lot.
Through four years of undergraduate work and three years of graduate work still ranks as the worst professor I have ever had. She let students do the majority of work through presentations and she added little to the lecture. Frequently commented on how she was an affirmative action double dip. Same structure for both classes was uninteresting.
Very fun professor, she keeps things light and likes to give class participation points, tests are somewhat hard but she gives a nice curve to them.
She is very educated and worldly, and will let you know about it. Never lets you forget she is smarted and better than you. Tests cover topics not related to some class materials, such as random current event questions we had no knowlegde of prior. Unless you are a beast at writing papers, you may struggle.
Just finished a summer online course. The material is not that difficult, but we had 8-9 chapters and several essays to read every week before the test, in addition to assignments. Test are tough but do able. 4 weeks online is better than a semester!
I took this course online this summer. The actual information wasn't that hard but we had a ridiculous amount to read each week, none of which came in handy for the test. She posted the poerpoints she uses in class, but there is no explanation or definition that does with it. Wikipedia was the only thing that got me through this class.
She is a very nice lady. She gives a lot of points out in class, so be there and bring a ton of 3x5 cards and don't forget your clicker. Attendance is very important, tests are tough but she curves them pretty generously. I am bored to death with politics and bureaucracy so this class was a struggle for me to stay awake but she's not bad.

Class was Government. We didnt learn anything about government, we just talk about current events. Never knew what was supposed to be learned.
AVOID this class. Absolutely the worst class I have ever taken. There is no way she even grades those tests. Half the time you don't even know what grades you receive. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Hard, but not impossible just assigns far too much work! 20 page minimum research paper, electronic portfolio, and a presentation on that research. I didn't feel it was all necessary. Not helpful/flexible to students. Asked for an assignment extension b/c of the law school admission test, most important thing I did all year. she didn't even listen!
By far the worst teacher I've ever had. I'm in her online course and it's a complete joke. The amount of reading is insane, then comes the 7 page test which barely covers the reading! She never emails back. The class is over today and she still just graded our first tests late last week. AVOID HER. She does not care about her students.

She is the worst teacher i have ever had, and i went to a tech school before. she has no time for her students and her power points are useless. She writes directions to have a paragraph but we fail if we don't write a page. I would sooner change my major then take another class with her.

It is terrible. She is unclear during lectures and has expectations that are way too high. She needs to realize that it is an intro class. Her tests are take home, but will take you at least 6 hours and you only have a day to do it. It is possible but is very time consuming.
This professor essentially uses the same syllabus for every level class that she uses. Whether its a 200 level 300 level or 400 level class. Completely unwilling to work with her students. Never returns emails. And because she is the chair of the department she can get away with it. Worst professor on campus.
She really isn't a great teacher. Her expectations are high, and tests take literally hours or hard work. It's her way or the highway on grading. I tried hard, I really did, but it apparently wasn't up to her standards. I was very interested in this subject... until I took this class. Don't do it.
The worst person to teach this course , she grades way to hard and doesn't even help you with the actual research paper. Avoid taking her at all cost,and if you're a political science major.... I'm sorry. She's not understanding or excepting of ideas that differ from her own. Horrible
The worst political science teacher i've ever taken at UWL, and I'm a senior. There is absolutly no reason why anyone should fail a capstone, but she makes it a possibility. Professor Manrique is more interested in failing students than helping them. In terms of UWL faculty in the Political Science Department, she is an experience that is best suffered with a close friend because you simply have to survive this class. She is the least helpful professor and you need to have a grasp of research methods beyond Pol 351.

Terrible. Do not recommend at all. She lectures about absolutely nothing that is on the tests. The tests are all based right out of the book, which she talks nothing about. She is not helpful at all.
Do NOT take Women and Politics with this professor. She spends 15-30 minutes of lecture talking about her alma mater, past student weddings she has attended, & other info that isn't relevant. Attendance is mandatory. She gives pop quizzes about random current events. I love the topic, but this class was useless and the tests were very difficult.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! Seriously, there will be weeks where you just work on her assignments. I took POL 201 online hoping to save some time (I am a working student) and I was sadly mistaken. Don't look at her overall rating, read the individual comments and take them to heart. Worst professor I have had here BY FAR!
I took POL 205 online. Here's what you can expect for work each week: (1)3-4 Power points that only include terms/links to articles (2)read 3-5 chapters (3) 1-2 time-intensive assignments. Then there's the exams. They take 8+ hours to complete, including a 3-5 page essay, and they go far beyond material covered in class. TLDR; busy work, stress.
If you want a Government class that actually teaches you about government I don't suggest taking this class with her. She talks way too fast and nothing that she taught would show up on the tests. Although she is very nice her teaching style is horrid.
Awful professor. Nothing but busy work without purpose. You will spends hours every week just to get a passing grade. I can't justify spending the amount of time needed to get an A. Worst professor I have had at UWL and I've been here 4 years. Leaving a sour taste in my mouth before I graduate.
Her take-home tests take over 10 hours to complete... if you want at least a 'B'. She will give you a grade on the test and is unwilling to give back points if you feel like her grading is unfair; she decides to give everyone 5 extra points because of this. When you answer one of her questions, she makes you feel dumb if your answer isn't 'exact'.
Manrique is funny sometimes, but she's not the best professor. What we read for chapters didn't have much to do with the tests, and the tests were awful. We had take home tests and they took over 8 hours to complete. All the questions are short essay then we had a 3-5 page essay. Her powerpoints are helpful, and she goes in depth.
Awful. Just awful. She will ask you a very open ended questions during the discussions, then flat out deny your response because she was looking for something specific as an answer. Whats even more infuriating is that these discussions dont even relate to the homework or tests. An hour of rambling and a couple 10 hour tests on the weekend. Awful.

Do NOT take this class with her. She makes things unnecessarily difficult, and the amount of time and effort she makes you put in does not make sense with it being a general class. You have to know current events to even pass the random quizzes and the tests take HOURS to complete. I would rate zero if I could.
She posts grade twice during the semester, once a little after midterm and then at the end. She gives pop quizzes on current events that require you to basically be a CNN reporter to be able to answer. Expects a lot of her students but gives very little herself. Harsh grader, do not take if you care about your grades as she refuses to give A's.
I think she was a nice enough professor but when you say the wrong answer she will make you feel bad. She is also an extremely tough grader and makes the test way harder than they need to be.

The time in class was laid back with minimal note-taking because powerpoints are posted online, the tests are a complete 180 and will take at least 6 hours.

Didn't really explain anything on the power points, was often unclear when questions were asked. Whatever I learned from this class I learned from the textbook.
Dr. Manrique knows her stuff. She won't tell you so, but reading the textbooks outside of class are the only way to pass her tests. It's a trick. But she is a fantastic teacher.
Dr. Manrique is a nice person, but she expected everything to be exact. It doesn't say grammar is graded but it is. You didn't capitalize "the" in "the United Kingdom"? Your answer is wrong. No points at all. You have to give a huge presentation at the end of the semester and she will interrupt you and cut you off during your presentation, be weary

I have over 100 credits under my belt and I can honestly say that this is the only professor I would absolutely AVOID at all costs. Her grading criteria is terrible, she is an actual hoarder (look in her office), actively tries to take away points any possible time she can, and gives no feedback on anything you do. For an online class, this is the most amount of work I've ever had to do for a class. She assigns multiple chapters at a time along with powerpoints that have no information on them and assignments that have nothing to do with the reading or powerpoints. The exams are unbelievably hard and have nothing to do with previous assignments.
Dr. Manrique gives no clear instructions for assignments, poorly worded and confusing questions on all of her exams, and she refuses to clarify anything. Useful feedback on assignments and exams is basically nonexistent. If you have the opportunity to take the class with anyone else, do it.
Uploads very few notes online and tests you on their content. Lots of book reading required. EXTREMELY harsh grader - will give no credit for answers with typos. Insane amount of homework consisting of copying and pasting information from Google. Tests will take you days to complete. Takes very, very long to have anything graded. Terrible.
