NEVER take her class. She doesn't even know about basic chemistry but she tries to teach it. How ridiculous! On the blackboard, she wrote the formula like ClNa, not NaCl. Her terrible accent, poor English will make you crazy. No end of spelling mistakes and grammatical mistakes. For Example, she wrote 'in the curse of,' not 'in the course of.'

LOOK, I AGREE THAT SHE IS NOT GOOD AT ENGLISH, BUT LET ME TELL STUDENTS THAT SHE TRIES HER BEST..SHE GIVES HANDOUTS FOR EVERY LECTURE AND SHE TEACHES FROM PROJECTOR..SHE ANSWER QUESTIONS OF STUDENT AND SHE KNOWS THE STUFF..I NEED A PROFESOR TO ANSWER MY QUESTIONS AND I THINK SHE TRIED HER BEST..REGARDING TO EXAM IT WASNT SUPER TOUGH BUT FEW QUESTIO
WARNING-- DON'T EVER TAKE HER CLASSES (ONLY IF U WANT TO WASTE MONEY & TIME) i had her for both lec. & lab, the lec. was more horrible, due to her accent u cannot understand alot of things, her lect. quizz & exams were wicked. she would emphasied on certain things to study for but SHE NEVER PUT THEM IN THE QUIZZ & EXAM -SHE IS A EVIL
No Comments
very difficult to understand her english
While she is not an awful person (as some other posts seem to indicate) - she is unprepared for class and lab, disorganized during her lectures, uninterested in her students, and unclear due to her accent. Although I got an A, I do not feel that I learned from her, and therefore I would not take another class with her again.
She is not good. I did not learn that much. She is not interesting on her students
Could not speak english too well. Her exams were fair. She did not explain labs to well.
SHE HAS A HEAVY ACCENT. WHEN SHE TALKS IN CLASS YOU CAN SEE THE STUDENTS ARE TRYING UNDERSTAND WHAT SHE IS SAYING.NOT VERY HELPFUL AT ALL. SHE DOES CARE LESS IF YOU PASS HER CLASS. WHEN STUDENT ASKED FOR A REVIEW SHE SAID NO.HER CLASS LECTURES ARE VERY DRY AND BORING.
How does a professor miscalculate everyone's grades in the class -- then only corrects those brought to her attention? Don't you think the correction should apply to everyone? SCB 203 is a class where the final grade MATTERS!! (esp. those applying for Nursing & Allied Health candidacy!). Should not be dismissed this easily.
The worst professor I ever had.Her accent sucks. Very hard to approach. Doesn't care about her students at all.
Took class in 24days for 4credits=B-.Would not recommend this professor for anatomy&physiology. However, if u do take her and want an A then do following. Study handout slides for the quizzes and make sure u know every slide.Study the slides/chapters in book for midterm/final. Her reviews r not helpful and what she tells u is on test usually isn't.
DROP&DON'T LOOK BACK!She is very hard and not clear about best ways to study & do well. The notes posted on blackboard are not the same as her lectures.NOT VERY HELPFUL & doesn't like to review tests/exams so that you can see your errors. The class started with 20 students and finished with 6.Language barrier makes class more difficult.
I have her for SCB203 and disagree with the negative comments. She does have an accent, but I can understand her. I also have her for lab and I honestly think that she is a very nice person. She is very knowledgeable about A&P and fair on her tests. I am doing well in the class. I have to study all the time, but you have to for any SCB203 class.
This professor ought not to teaching a key course SCB 203). Her delivery is poor; she is disorganized and cannot speak English well enough to explain difficult concepts. She thinks that the plural of man is "mens". She does not like students to ask questions, because most times she is unable to explain in properly. She would fail English 101.
I would have to disagree with the negative comments. She is a good professor, who does take the time to explain the material. All you have to do is ask. She does have an accent but I had no problem understanding her. The course is challenging (like any science course). Don't blame the professor if YOU got a bad grade, just work harder.
I would agree with person below . she is very nice person , her accent is not that bad (common , we live in multilingual city, people get real :)). Is she hard?? The subject is hard , you have to study a lot !!!! Her lab exams are not hard , if you listen to her during class you will get a good grade . Thank you prof. for everything :)
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!! NO CONSIDERATION FOR OTHERS! LEARNED NOTHING IN HER CLASS! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HER TO ANYONE! SAVE YOUR MONEY PLS
if you can drop it, beside the accent that is not bad, but her way of teaching is bad, basically you have to teach yourself, her exams are not the same as the material in class you have to read the book and figure it out. she reads the power points with no pauses to copy or listen to what shes trying to say
RUN AWAY FROM HER !!! Please save your life & money !!!
This course is no walk in the park, however, Dr. Ortiz is a very good teacher despite the language barrier (although it could be worse). Her exams may be hard to understand but when approached, she will clarify the question if need be. Reading the text and studying the notes would suffice. I highly recommend reading the text thoroughly.
I had this class before with prof O'kane and comparing to prof (actually she does not deserve this rank) Ortiz which the comprasion is not fair between both of them because definetely prof O'kane the best prof ever that you can trully learn from her class but prof Ortiz you leave the class with 0 knoweledge. i just can say do not take her
SERIOUSLY RUN!!!! For your own good. Nothing personal against her, she's a very nice person, BUT her teaching methods are HORRIBLE. You basically have to teach yourself and watch a lot of youtube anatomy and physiology videos. She rarely writes anything on the board just speaks for an hour and uses no visuals. You leave class confused.
she is the worst ever! she just won't listen to students. i'm an esl student and it is so hard to understand what she's trying to say since she's also a second language user. difficulty index of her exams are just too high and she won't even listen! i had no choice but to stick with her class since i need to have 12 credits. My GPA is in jeopardy!
Professors are here to help you learn something new to their best ability and explain it so everyone can understand. With her the only way you will learn is by studying yourself. so why are we paying for the class and why is she even there. She runs threw her notes and leaves no time to copy and students who are ELS will not pick up on her accent.
professor ortiz is a very nice person and her exams are easy because most of her exams questions come from the handouts.text book reading is a must but listening to her lecture in the class helps to get good grade. She DOSE NOT have the ability to clarify any hard topic and Very bad in explaing topics.im glad that im done with her
The class is hard but if u study enough u will do fine. I got an A. The professor is very approachable and will explain what ever u do not understand. I like the way how she explain is very clear.
ohk...i think she is a nice person, she really wants you to study the textbook and be able to apply what you've learnt. i got an A in her class and i must say i was very proud of myself. her questons however is very confusing, she sometimes gives u a queston with two answers and u'd have to choose the best answer for it.
I thing that Ortiz is a very nice person and a good professor. She always has time to explain things that you do not understand, she is always prepared and she does a review ahead of Midterm and Final. The class is hard but if you study her handouts and the book, and if you listen carefully on her lectures you will do fine. Some of her test are
She is a nice person overall. but i did NOT like her teaching methods! they suck. And in the class she did not explain or went over everything we needed to know. Has an accent and that is very hard to understand what she is trying to say. Also, in her class you basically need study on your own! because she does not explain everything.
Firstly, Biology is a natural science - it's hard. But it is all up to you whether or not you do well. Did you think you can get an A just for showing up? Ortiz explains EVERYTHING you need to know. You need to ASK questions if you want to clarify something. I was worried when I read the comments here, but I know better now. YOU failed, not Ortiz.
She is very helpful, smart and dedicated professor. Her classes are very interesting and she gives us the most inportant facts on each lecture.
Overall, I think she is good professor. Attend her class and take notes. For exam, donnt rely only on her study guide. Use your CLASS NOTES + textbook. On practicals, she may sometimes put qustions that is not on study quide, but she went over in class.
Good professor! Very dedicated and no hesitation to get her hands dirty on dissecting. Her study lists are long but i learned twice more on her lab than 203. Stop texting and study both the notes and the book. A is right at the corner.
I really don't see why she gets bad reviews. Professor Ortiz is an excellent teacher and very through in her work. You can tell she cares about what her students learn. Overall the class is hard, but she teaches students about what they need to know in their career paths. If I was repeating 204 I would definately take her!
Dear Professor Ortiz, I believe you are a smart lady and you know the material. But i strongly believe that you need to improve your ENGLISH and PRONUNCIATION.If you listen to her lecture, she uses GOING TO in every sentence. Her wrong english makes the lecture difficult to understand. So, please be careful before taking this tough course with her
She is a great teacher, she doesn't make things complicated...but you must study to have good grade, she doesn't give very complicated questions.I honestly like her.
She is wonderful professor. She cares about her students.Makes you understand things. She tells you very clear what you need to study, makes everything clear. You need to just study, don't think that this is an easy A, but if you will study you will succeed. She is wonderful person.
She is a Wonderful Person! Very Helpful! You have to STUDY your COMPLETE notes, the SLIDES, and use the TEXTBOOK as an extra guide to compliment them. She HELPS you IN EVERY WAY that she CAN! I'm so THANKFUL for her. You have to put in the STUDY time to pass! Is it not an easy course! If you ASK questions and be diligent, you will be fine!
Wonderful professor, really helpful. Has passion for teaching , explains everything so well. I got lucky to have her this semester. With her help and her teaching mechanism really helped me to get the get my A.
Very glad that I had her as a teacher. She is wonderful person, very helpful.Doesn't make things complicated.I highly recommend her.
Dr. Ortiz is a wonderful professor. She is very knowledgable and explains the material really well. She has an accent so ask for clarification. Quizzes are not bad, gives out study guides for mid term and final. study her slides, read the book and take notes and ask questions, and A is right around the corner.
SHE IS A VERY GOOD TEACHER. SHE IS VERY ORGANIZED .FOCUS ON HER POWER POINT NOTES. I REALLY LIKE HER TEACHING STYLE.
Her accent is very strong, and that's why you have a syllabus and your textbook. she is super nice, breaks everything down for you to better understand, make sure you start studying from early, especially the bone test, microscope and the sheep heart.
Prof. Ortiz is very nice, fair, and smart. Her accent is strong, but feel free to ask her to spell or clarify the words she's saying. If you put in the work and follow her study outlines, the tests are fairly easy. But for the practicals, visit the study lab!!
Professor Ceclia Ortiz is a great professor. She motovates her students and is very helpful!! I was surprised by the reviews she was given.. Human Anatomy IS a challenging course, I don't think students should be blaming her. She does have an accent but I understand her perfectly!
LAB ONLY! I just wrapped up a TOUGH 6 week semester, I really liked Professor Ortiz. She is soooo helpful. Even came in on a saturday morning to help us with learning the muscles. She has an accent but you can understand her, she talks quickly which is kinda annoying but if you follow along with your lab book you'll be good. I deff recommend her.
I had her for lab only... she doesn't help a lot, she talks fast and doesn't really write on the board. I wouldn't recommend and the test are alright but sometimes it surprises you
I don't understand why if we have 3 hours and 20 minutes scheduled for lab. once a week, she finishes the class about an hour earlier. She is a hard grader. No multiple choice questions. Don't take her. She has the higher percentage of students dropping off her class.
Terrible professor... tests are very tricky and seem as if she's trying to fail everyone. Class started with 60+ students and finished with 18. All my classes I managed to secure and A except for Ortiz's SCB 203. Do not take her. LAGCC need to axe this demon.
Ortiz's multiple choice quizzes are very tricky. Midterms and finals are mostly long answers and some matching. A few true and false. Study, study oh and switch to another professor if you're looking for an A.
Dr. Ortiz is very tough and it is rare for 3 or more students to receive an A from her class. She is however after class and offers one on one tutoring in M159.
Tests are nothing like what is discussed in class. Very tough grader and not clear at all.
If you want to learn, this is the class to take. You will have to work for your grade.
She's a great professor, She ends class early, but it's used to give students a chance to ask questions about the topic. My advice is Be ready to have no life this class is very heavy in workload and you will be overwhelmed at points where you have to take practical for lab and quizzes for lecture. This was my only class for the semester.
shes actually a great teacher, she gives you so many chances especially if you are actually are trying. This class is always difficult, and she maybe be critical or whatever but thats the thing with this subject you need actual perfection, because A&P isnt something you can just wing, thats why shes a hard ass to help you get that good grade
I am not one to make pointless accussations or inadequate comments. This professor is the harshest one I have had so far. I got a B+ for the class. My GPA was 4.0. The questions she writes are ambiguos-in many cases-or grammatically unspecific. She does not care how hard you work or participate in class. If you take her, she will destroy your GPA.
She finishes the lab class almost an hour earlier every week and rush us out of the lab because she has to eat and rest due to the amount of classes she is teaching. Every body knows that at LaGuardia and nobody cares.
Dr. Ortiz is extremely difficult... class started with 45 students and ended with less than 10. Stay away unless you want to ruin your GPA and candidacy requirement.
I was afraid when I red the comments. but when I met her I decided to continue in her class because she is a good teacher she wanted us to learn the material and she tried to inspired the class. The class is difficult, a lot of material in lecture and lab as well. I do not recommend you to take this class in a short session
I like this prof. The material was posted on time on cuny BB, she gave us study guides and reviews previous to the exams. I had her for Lab it was great!
She has a very heavy accent and on top of that she has the nerve to take points for spelling. The school is mostly international students and english is their second language, not fair. Test are hard. Almost eveyone have drop the class.
Dr. Ortiz is a very nice professor but her teaching skills could use some improvements. This professor ends class at least one hour earlier and rushes through slides. Study guides is given by all lab professors for biology. Dr. Ortiz teaches both lecture and lab. I honestly prefer her in lab only.
Dr. Cecilia Ortiz is one of the best teacher at LaGuardia Community College. She is very severe, but in the same time explains to the students everything they don't understand and she is very well prepared. Quizzes are not easy; you have to work hard to learn to succeed.
Dr. Cecilia Ortiz is a very knowledgeable professor, she explains the subjects very well and she cares about her students. If you study hard it is impossible to not take a very good grade attending her lecture/ lab.
Dr. Ortiz is good. She has a heart who care about their education, though she won't reveal her soft side until the later part of semester. She is consistent in her clear and concise method of teaching. Accent is fully understandable. Grading can be quite strict and exams hard, but not overwhelming. Not the greatest educator ever, but descent.
She's awful. She acts like she cares but she'll fail you for writing it wrong.
She rushes through the PP slides. Students basically have to read lots of material home because not much is discussed during the class. Her tests, quizzes are very tricky. In general there are two types of professors, those who want to help students and those who's goal is to fail as many as possible. Well, Cecilias goal is to fail you.
The classes she teaches is hard, so I think whether you get Cecelia or not, you will have to work for your grades. Her exams are not the hardest in the course as long as you study for them. Strict but caring.
Dr. Cecilia Ortiz is a very knowledgeable professor, she explains the subjects very well and she cares about her students. Always replay the emails If you study hard it is impossible to not take a very good grade attending her lecture and office hours. Gracias porfesora Ortiz
Dr. Ortiz is a good professor. She explains the material very well but when she is not in the mood, or she is sick, she will skim through it and you will have to study the slides on your own. She is very strict in the beginning with the questions on test but after a week or so she will become more lenient with the material. She wants you to pass.
I am highIy unsatisfied and I will highly recommend my friend to not take her class.
Professor Ortiz is a good person but she has this heavy accent. Also she just read the ppt without explaining nothing. Anatomy is hard but she made it harder, dont ever take her class.
She HATES when students ask questions, so don't!!! she has a nasty attitude if you don't understand anything and or has to repeat herself. Her exams/tests are VERY tricky, never clear. I WOULD NEVER TAKE HER AGAIN!!! this is someone who shouldn't be a professor. HORRIBLE!
Worse class I have ever taken. Tough grader. Very strong accent, when you ask questions she gets upset, but if you don't know the answer she's upset as well.. Her test are very tricky based on what she teaches in class. Speaking of teaching, she doesn't! She shows slides barely explains them and expects you to know what's going on. Run!!
Honestly if you can take a different lecture proffessor do so. Only reads of slides that you can find on google. Basically you have to teach yourself. Plus the material is har enough. Just awful really.
One of the worst professor at Laguardia. She doesnt teach, but instead read off the power point which she goes through very fast. She gets annoyed when you ask her a question. Honestly if you have option, do yourself and your gps a favor do not take her.
Avoid this professor at all cost. If you want to pass or care about your GPA do not take her class.
Don take her class, if you care about your GPA, which is your future, career, and life.
She is very nice but she does not help a lot, one time I ask her why the professor make the classes even more challenging that they are and she responded well if you feel is hard maybe you should change your degree like for real, instead of encourage students to keep going giving us more positive vibes she says the opposite, took lab with her.
Scb 204 can be difficult but taking lab with the professor made it less challenging.
Professor Ortiz is a great professor but the class itself is not an easy class. So if you want to get a good grade you have to read the textbook. Her lecture slides are just a summary so one has to read the textbook to do well in the exams.
Mean and rude . Unprofessional. Has no respect for students
This professor doesn't have the patience to teach . She is better off working in a hospital . If you are unsure about something and you ask her she says things like “ oh my god “ and “ugh “ she's extremely rude and not easy to approach when you are trying to learn . If you care about learning and being respected in a learning environment avoid her
Professor does not care if you understand the material. It seems like she wants to get the lecture over with and go home. She does not give good feedback or useful study guides for any exams, even finals
She's a really mean professor who doesn't care about her students. It feels like she goes to work for the sole reason to power trip.
Doesn't know what she's doing. Please do something else this job is not for you . You have no idea how to teach. I don't think you even know what the material is. If you want to learn take another professor. She's just bad 👎
Don't take her class. You will have to study all by yourself, and you will wonder why you are even going to her lectures. Lab is the worst.. She does not explain anything. For the lectures, she will show some slides and expect you to know everything. She will leave early and 1 hour or more before the class is supposed to end.
This professor takes vacation in the middle of the class and expect you to learn practical by video. She made us do the quiz 6 and finals together at the same day. Her slides and lectures are the worst.. she just read the slides.. she leave an hour before the class ends..she's impatient, gets angry, she didn't grade the class assignment too..
This professor is by far the worst teacher you can have for a high intense course which was Human Anatomy. She reads her slides and doesn't really explain in detail and during lab she doesn't teach. She will make you under study or over study without a study guide for exams. Going to lecture class is a waste, you'll end up studying independently.
She reads straight from the slides without checking if anyone understands, gets frustrated very easily, and the labs are the worst—confusing, unorganized, and stressful.
Contrary to most of these reviews, she's not a bad professor. She is very quick when lecturing, but the material is pretty straight forward and all her slides are posted on for review. The difficulty is the amount of material you need to cover and the amount of tests. For her lecture tests, review on quizlet. Her practical is covered in her slides.
She reads her slides and doesn't really explain in detail and during lab she doesn't teach. She will make you under study without a study guide for exams.
It's just the matter of time when you will regret taking this teacher. No study guides nothing like other professor give, doesn't care about student.
