Take him if you can. Mr. Lewis was the most helpful teacher that I have had since 3rd grade. He truley wants everyone to pass. I have taken almost all accounting teachers at unf and he id the best. Breaks things down in a sensible way for easy comprehension.
Wow is all I can say. This guy might know his stuff, and might offer help, however he is VERY VERY strict on grading, and will not curve the tests regardless if the class as a whole didn't do too good. If he worked on that I would definitely recommend him.
I took him for the summer and I blieve it was his first term teaching. He curved the final. Test are as staight forward as possible. He prettymuch told us exactly what type of problems would be on the test. One of the most fairest teachers I have ever had.
don't even
he is not as fair as everyone on here says he is. he uses everything from a website and does not do any work for this class.
You have to buy a clicker for this class for $20 and $13 to register it. He takes attendence with it and uses it for all test quiz and homework answers. It malfunctions every class. He never answers your emails. He assumes all the material is easy for everyone.
Yeah,I agree, don't even..
This guy is terrible. He doesn't respond to email and doesn't have office hours. If you are an accounting major and know your stuff then take him, if this class is a class that you have to take to get your degree... DON'T TAKE HIM! He's very disorganized and not willing to work with students. Not flexible. Take Seaton if you can.
This stress of this class will give you an aneurysm. Doesn't matter which financial accounting professor you take, they're all standardized and mind numbingly difficult. It's a great class to take to destroy your GPA.
He seems nice at first, but his tests are very difficult and the average on all of our tests was a D or lower, he does not have office hours, and tells you to email him, but doesn't respond. I doubt even half my class passed. He never curves tests and always says "isnt this fun?" he is SOOO annoying.
This teacher is a joke. His grading scale is always changing and you have to teach yourself in order to pass. Be careful he uses clicker and when your answer is right he marks it wrong in clicker. He gave me my 1st F in college. I don't understand how I failed except the final exam was a BIG joke. WARNING!!! DO NOT TAKE Cedric Lewis for accounting!
The final was so horrible, it counted as 200 points at first. Everyone did so bad that he doubled the points we got for attendence, and gave an extra 10 points for no reason at all. The average score of the comprehensive final was 105/200, what a great teacher, right?
I easily passed this class after taking it twice. Mr. Lewis made this class cool for me and I don't like accounting. He is strict with the rules but all you have to do is follow them and keep up with the points. He definitely does not curve but he tells you exactly what will be on the exam. Take good notes.
Mr. Lewis was very helpful. Not well-organized, no office hours but always offered to stay after class in order to help students. Class was demanding however, if you are an acct major you need to deal with it. The strict course material and monoply of professors is to prepare students for their acct careers.
Fairly strict, very good teacher, knowledgeable. You'll learn something in his class
This stress of this class will send you into depression. Doesn't matter which financial accounting professor you take, they're all standardized and mind numbingly difficult. It's a great class to take to destroy your GPA.Also not well organized
If you like accounting this is the teacher for you. If you don't like accounting Don't take him, he is very unorganized and strict when it comes to grades, just in case LEAVE YOUR CELL PHONE in the car!! With alot of studying on your own time you can pass
This teacher gave me my first D in College. His final was worth 200 points and the average of the class was dropped by 15%. I worked my tail off and still did not pass. I dont' recommend taking him.
Im surprised at the low ratings for Professor Lewis. Accounting is not an easy subject, but he makes the material as clear as possible. His exams are easy, except for the final, which features questions made by Tanner. I would definitely take Lewis again. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you get points for going.
In this class you have to study, attend class for points, use a clicker for every class and ask for help if you don't understand the content. Mr.Lewis will help if needed. You need to have Excel experience inorder to pass a mandatory excel quiz thats part of the overall grade. Passing all test are important or you will fail the class.
Plan on attending, doing all your homework, participating, using the book constantly, and studying for your exams. Also plan on actually LEARNING this stuff because he's an incredible teacher. If all professors had his teaching strategies I'd have straight A's. Easy class? No way. But you can definitely get an A, and you'll definitely learn!!
Prof. Lewis is an AWESOME Prof. I don't think he believes how good of a teacher he actually is! On the first exam so many people got A's, he thought we got his test from somewhere but really he is that GOOD of a teacher! He is VERY helpful and if you email him about anything he will respond VERY quickly! Overall GREAT PROF!
Cedric Lewis is by far one of the better professors I had at UNF. His expectations are reasonable, he strives to keep you involved in the course, and he does help you if you need it. Best of all, he is very down to earth. It's a challenging course, but he will see you through it. Don't slack much and you will be fine.
Read the older comments for accuracy. I think he wrote the highly rated ones himself. He is down to earth but that is not a good thing in this case. My friend had Saunders and said I should take her next time. I cant believe he is still teaching.
He is an amazing professor. He really cares about his students and will do as much as he can to help them succeed. Make sure to READ THE CHAPTERS! It helps on the exams. Do the hws and the extra practice problems too. Not only do they help but he sometimes they are worth hw points. Overall awesome teacher!
By far the best professor I have ever had at UNF. Mr. Lewis not only teaches you the information but incorporates real life experiences so you know how to apply what you learn. He gives TONS of extra credit chances and is always willing to help. You must attend class and apply yourself however. If you do not take him you are missing out!
Mr Lewis is a nice, down to Earth teacher who gives extra credit regularly but he doesn't really teach the material. You learn it on your own via the homework and practice problems. He spends class time going over these problems. The real problem is, his tests do not prepare you for the final. Almost half of the questions on the final are "Tann
He is horrible. He doesn't explain anything. He doesn't teach. He calls out everyone in class, embarrasses them, and expects the class to explain everything to each other. I would have taken this class online if I knew he was going to suck so bad. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
He sucks. He is quite possibly one of the worst instructors I have ever had. If you enjoy taking a class with someone that doesn't teach and has a micromanager attitude then Lewis is your guy. If you want a real learning experience take someone else.
Professor was very descriptive and made it easier to understand matierial. Excel Quizzes are simple and he also goes over matierial from homework and tests in class or during office hours. Lets you keep old tests with correct answers for final review. Would definately recommend
I am going to be a senior in the fall and Professor Lewis is by far the worse teacher I have encountered at UNF. I have had my share of pompous teachers but this guy should not be teaching. His class is set up completely ridiculous and he has possibly the worse teaching style of any professor I have ever had. Do not take this guys class!
Horrible teacher! He never taught the class he just called on students to answer the homework problems, and he loved calling the students who did not complete the hmwk assignments. He makes the class really hard at the beginnng then after the withdraw period he gives tons of extra credit.
WORST CLASS EVER!!!!! I dont care who you are this class is near to imposible! He makes you feel like an idot in the class, and especially his office hours. This class took years off my life it was so stressful. All quizes and tests are answered thru clicker and not enough time is given finish the exams! Overall rating: STAY AWAY!
Not really sure what everyone is talking about. Took lewis for ACG 2021 and got an A. Afterwards i took him for managerial and got an 89. He's an awesome teacher. TEACHES by going over homework problems and doing problems on the board. He uses the powerpoint for backup not for a crutch like most teachers do. Test are fair, grades HW & attendance
This teacher is awful. Not only does he not answer questions, he never explains anything. All you do in class is go over the answers to the homework, but never how to solve them. When a person gets A's in 3 other classes but a D in this one, it's clearly NOT the student. He doesn't even write the final so he doesn't know how to "teach" to it.
If you work hard in his class and go to class, you can do well. He stays some nights 2 extra hours to help students, and has Sunday study sessions before tests. Students that say "impossible" wanted to probably do nothing and get an A. Lots of work, but very relevant to real business situations. I use this class daily working for a local company.
Definitely one of the harder teachers but helps you a lot! IF you go to class and actually do the homework you will do fine. He calls on ppl and puts you on the spot but it really does help
tried to take him summer c term, Spoke to him second day of class about trying to make up a test i would miss if i couldnt I would like to know so i could drop and not lose $500.He took his sweet time and I lost my money. Be warned If you go to class and don't have a life but to cater to his schedule you wont succeed, He's lazy and unhelpful. DNT
Great Teacher, More helpful than any other accounting teacher at UNF. If your not an accounting major than this is who you want to take. Go to class, take some notes, do HW and make a good note sheet, should get an A and dont be scared to get called on he helps walk you through it and helps you understand. Remember its like Math practice is KEY
Very hard teacher. Be careful, he makes a lot of mistakes when grading your test. Quite a few of us had to meet with him to get our grades fixed. He offers a lot of help but he never gives you a straight answer to your question. Very slow in replying to emails. Unfortunately there's not many better options for accounting at UNF. Good luck.
Do the homework & the practice problems in order to do well in class. My only complaint with this class is the final exam is prepared by another professor and is nothing like the exams Mr. Lewis gave. Expect your grade to drop a letter grade after the final. There is plenty of extra credit. You can do well in the class if you give your best effort.
He can be very intense. Hard to get questions in during class time, but he offers tutoring outside of the classroom. Do all the extra practice problems he gives on Blackboard, they basically make up the test. He gives you the resources to be success in his class. USE THEM. Plus 1/2 page cheat sheet on test! He wants you to be successful!
He is an okay teacher. He wants you to do well, but his teaching style is more teach yourself and then come to class and review what you did on your own. The tests aren't terrible. He has practice problems that are pretty similar to test questions & you get to use a 1/2 page note sheet on tests. This class is a lot of work and HW is required.
This guy is simply not qualified to teach this course. He does not know the subject matter at all. Get ready to teach yourself everything. Better yet, if you ask a question in class he can't even answer it. He assigns homework, and he asks other students to answer them. I would not recommend this guy to my worst enemy.
This guys is my hero. His stories are hilarious, his teaching styles are unorthodox, however extremely effective. I attended EVERY class, just because i knew i would laugh. However, the pressure is always on. Be prepared to be called out and sweat in the spotlight, but he is more than helpful in helping you find the solution. GO TO OFFICE HOURS>
He takes attendance points sometimes, but I barely went to class due to unavoidable circumstances and I still got a B in the class. You should do the practice problems and homework and try to go to the reviews he holds the weekend before the exams. You also get to use a notes sheet for all of your exams which is very helpful!
Love him as a person, but he can be really disorganized and horrible about giving grades back. He also calls on random people every class to do the hw so be prepared. Overall this class was incredibly easy for me and he offers a good amount of extra credit built into other assignments. The final was easy too contrary to what people say about it.
Probably the best accounting prof at UNF. Engages class and makes you think critically. He can be intimidating but he just does that so you come to class prepared. You learn in class by answering his questions which makes studying easier. Usually study the day before exam to get A. 5 exams and cumulative final. Can use notesheets! Great teacher
Very unique teaching style that would only work for some people. Takes forever to get back test grades and randomly calls on people. Not a good way to learn.
Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen , is show he began each class. I have to say coming from a horrible Financial Accounting professor to this professor was very beneficial. Besides the length it takes him to grade papers, and return emails... He is a very good professor. It takes effort, but it will pay off !!
Hands down the best accounting professor I have ever had. Yes, the material is difficult but he explains it with clarity and makes sure most people understands before moving on. He will call on you in class which is intimidating at first, but it only benefits the students because it made me stay on top of my work knowing I could be called on.
My favourite professor at UNF, and I've had some really good ones. He is one of the more qualified professors, very empathetic and patient, and just a genuine person. Aside from ignoring his office hours and email, he really gave me entertaining and valuable insight into a subject that I had virtually no desire to learn prior. Take his class
One of the hardest classes I have taken at UNF. His class is really stressful and he calls on you so just make sure to try the homework he assigns. He is REALLY slow at grading things so you never know what you true grade is in the class the whole time. He expects you to know how to do the homework before he teaches it.
Time consuming class and lots of uncertainty. As pointed out by others, he takes weeks to grade, but for your advantage. The key is to have TIME, lots of it, to before the lecture: read the chapter, analyze the way he approaches exercises using the bb practice, do the homework (label things with names as he does it), and practice using tannertown.
Unorganized, not focused, never grades. We had 2 test given back to class before final. Homework does not reflect the answers he wants on test. In fact, homework is pointless. Don't bother. If you miss a class you arein big trouble. Probably tenure. If you're an accounting major he will make you want to rip your hair out. His life > Yours.
He is ok. He uses Excel to show practice problems, but that can get very confusing. He takes attendance regularly
Really knows his stuff. Didn't like how we had to complete hw on material not yet covered, but would clearly teach the material so you could understand it. One thing I didn't like was how 10% of the overall grade was excel quizzes administered by Tanner that we had no instruction for how to do. Would've aced the course if it wasn't for that.
Worst teacher i've had. Gives you homework and expects you to know how to do it, then barely goes over it next class. A friend took his class one semester and had to drop so she took Tanner the next semester and got an A. Regarding his final and from his mouth "take your average test grade and subtract a letter grade" Tanner makes the final not him
Lewis is a funny guy. He does assign homework and expect you to know how to do it without him going over it. He does not accept "i don't know" as an answer. He will put you on the spot and make you think through it. 5 tests (not including the final), and graded hw and quizzes that are online. Tough class but he is a great guy that made me laugh.
One of my favorite professors since coming to UNF. Put in the work and you'll do great. I failed the first test, and after that put work in. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask, he loves to answer them! He really brings life to his lectures. Show up to class, do the homework, study, you'll pass no problem! Take him!
I have never had to try this hard in any class up to this point. I went to tutoring 3 times a week for around 4 hours a day, AND STILL DID POORLY ON TESTS. The material in class and homework is completely different than the level you are tested on. If you must take with professor Lewis, prepare for a rough semester.
Funny. But can't teach. At all.
Hard tester
Arguably the worst professor I've had thus far through college(I'm a junior). Doesn't teach the material, he has your class mates in lecture teach each other the lesson. Will randomly call on you and make you look stupid in front of the class if you don't know the answers and is very condescending towards his students. Do not take this man.
Prof. Lewis really knows the material. He relates the coursework to his experience in the field. He challenges you to know the concepts instead of regurgitating information. If you read and do the work, you can get a good grade. His lectures have humor and are a bit unconventional. If you want to actually learn, take this class.
Tough class but Professor Lewis is extremely knowledgeable and teaches the material well. He will call on you during class, so do the homework. You will pass al, the tests if you put effort into doing the practice problems he gives you.
Do not take him!! He doesn't teach the material. He expects you to read the book and understand the material. He will pick you out and make you look stupid in front of the entire class. This is already a hard subject, don't add to it and get a bad professor.
He truly cares about your success and takes class seriously! He does have a different style approach but if your a good student. you clearly want a professor like him with passion for his class.
Read the book and understand the concepts. The practice problems he gives you will not help you prepare for the exams. Neither will the homework problems. You must be completely knowledgeable on key terms.
He is very passionate about the material and very engaging in class. He does have a hands on teaching style and requires you to at least attempt chapter problems before class. He has 5 exams plus the final, so you have opportunities to do well on them. The practice problems he gave were helpful to study for the exams - same types of problems.
Professor Lewis is literally the worst professor I have ever taken at UNF! He picks on many students while not staying on topic. He truly expects you to teach yourself everything & with accounting that is extremely difficult! I studied so hard for this class. He gets sidetracked a lot & talks about irrevelant info. I would NEVER take him again.
If you want a professor who will actually show up to class, teach the material, and help as much as possible DO NOT TAKE LEWIS. He calls on students randomly to make them feel stupid and if you do not understand something he makes you ask the student next to you. I practiced with all of the homework& practice problems & they were nothing like exams
Lewis' lectures are incredibly confusing, and he is very disorganized. He makes the class go over all the problems in class, but fails to go in-depth on how to solve them. I left the lectures feeling confused every week. He takes forever to grade exams and never responded to emails. Put in a ton of effort but still had to drop. Don't recommend him
Lewis is a poor professor plain and simple. During his class period he does not go into depth and is extremely vague on homework and terms which leaves you wondering if you actually understand the topic. His online homework and quizzes have no correlation to the exams he gives, on top of all that he takes roughly 5 weeks to grade one exam.
I took Lewis in UNDERGRAD for principles of managerial accounting- barely scraped by, and I'm a very hardworking student- in fact I have a 98 average in graduate level accounting. Lewis does not care about his students, gets high off of embarrassing them, tests are completely different format than homework & the online portion is next to impossible
Reread chapters, do the practice problems, practice heavy before tests. He won't help you with anything, so you're on your own learning the material. It's passable if you put in the work on your own time. He also takes forever to grade tests, rarely replies to emails, and will embarrass you in class. Take Professor Bryan instead.
Worst professor I have ever encountered. Does not respect your time whatsoever. Cancelled class often and took weeks to grade scantrons in a class of 20-something people. Took weeks to respond to simple emails. Used class to go over a couple of homework problems which you have to teach yourself. Awful.
This was a hard class, however, Professor Lewis' passion for the subject made our classroom time enjoyable. He provided opportunity for extra credit. He asks that you go to his office or meet after class for concerns. Read and participate. Final Exam allowed for study sheet.
Lewis doesn't teach and wastes time talking about irrelevant topics. The tests and homework online don't coincide with what he teaches. He has no respect for his students or their time. Cancels class, takes weeks to grade. Unless you have an innate ability to teach yourself, avoid taking any class with this man. RUN! DON'T LOOK BACK! WORTHLESS!
Lewis isn't the easiest professor to take for acg2071, but he isn't the hardest. Put in the effort for each chapter and you'll do fine. NOTE: you're responsible for learning material, he is there to make sure you understand it. He attempts to use real-world examples to help explain concepts. Understand concepts and you pass. Takes forever to grade.
Cedric is a fairly good professor. If you are lazy or are not prepared, prepare to be embarrassed. You will most likely get a poor exam grade if you don't show up to class, as he goes into some details that the book won't. I promise, go to class and you will get the material a lot better as he lays everything out in a comprehensible way.
Fist Bumps and talks like "Jimmy Johns" freaky fast! He will call you out so always know whats going on because he will make you look stupid. Not everyone is a guru at accounting and he assumes you are. Takes forever to grade and his computer program for homework is trash. One chance to answer the assignment and exams not relevant to homework.
Very passionate and knowledgeable in his field. Certainly the most challenging course I've taken, but if you take the homework and studying seriously, you'll do fine. Be on your game when attending class, as he will ask you questions pertaining to homework and you're expected to have done your part. This is not a class to take lightly!
By far the worst professor at UNF. He has no respect for his students. He will call you out in class and in every way try to make you seem inferior to him. Every exam we took he was 10-15 minutes late, for one exam he was 30 minutes late and still gave us the same end time for the exam. Does not teach at ALL. Exams do not match class/notes. Awful..
His entire class he requires you to read the material yourself, do ungraded homework before ever going over the material, then he will spend 3 classes on 1 chapter and cram the next chapter in 1 class and test you the follow class date. Wastes time asking what students think the answer is, instead of explaining what's right. Stay away!
Take him if you dont want to pass! Worst accounting professor
I would prefer to amputate my arm, without anesthesia, than take this professor. Somehow he managed to make Managerial Accounting far worse than Financial. Contrary to what he would like you to believe, you will not be having a "fun" and "joyful" time.
He expects you to learn the material on your own. He'll waste your time in class talking about nonsense things and maybe go over 1-2 hw problems that won't even help you on the exams. His exams are not like the practice problems he gives you. Takes weeks to grade the exams, doesn't reply to emails and will cancel class days before the final.
Anyone reading this right now please hear out my warning. No matter what, do not take managerial with this man. By far the worst professor in the accounting department. He does not teach, takes weeks to grade scantron exams, the hw and practice problems are not related to the exams at all. If you value your time, money and grades do not take him.
I dont even know where to begin. Theres so much wrong with his class. What others have said is putting it mildly. Im pretty sure the stress of taking his class took 5 years off my life. Hell say at the beginning of every exam youre going to have a wonderful and joyful time except it felt like I was going into cardiac arrest during every exam
Ive never had to work so incredibly hard for a C in my life.
Other peoples comments made me hesitant to take him but glad i did. He had 5 main tests - the final is optional and it only helps your grade if you take it. There was a homework and a quiz per unit & 12 units total. His lecture vids walk you thru how to do everything and the tests arent complicated. The lecture vids are just long but are helpful
At first, I was not a fan, I thought he was a tough professor but I realized it wasn't him and me. Students hate to hear it but his class is an easy A if you apply yourself with all the resources he gives you, trust me he's actually a great professor-the course itself is a hit or miss, you either understand ACG or you don't. Gotta practice!
Took his class online during the summer semester. He gave tons of extra credit opportunities. His lectures were very helpful and he has a soothing voice which was a little weird during an accounting lecture but I think it helped lol. Would definitely recommend him over other accounting professors.
Took him online this past summer. He's the better option for managerial accounting.
