This professor is very dry and reads straight out of the book. The questions on quizzes and tests are very obscure and on minute facts about subject. I am an A student and barely squeezed out a C. Skip this professor for sure.
This Teacher dose not know how to teach! He reads the book or lets the computer do it for him. When it comes to the test it is a completely different then what you study out of the book. I am a 3.6 student and got a B in PSY201. Then I get him and I get a none passing grade. He has ruined my GPA. Not a good teacher, skip him at all cost.
Dr. Wilson is a really nice guy but a horible professor. He only graded us on 4 exams and 1 paper, which is ok but the stuff we learned in class was not really helpful on exams. I tend to never really complain about anyone but I feel that students need to be warned or a heads up. Wilson is not a good teacher. He is a great person tho.
lets see, class consisted of 4 exams (questions used from practice quizzes online from the book used) & 1 group research project that took the whole semester. he doesn't post grades on BB and i didn't understand his grading at all. i got B or higher on all exams, group project and still got a C. avoid this prof at all costs !
Dr. Wilson is a good guy & teaches straight from the textbook. I took this class in the summer, and we had quizzes and a final, no paper. He's a clinical psychologist so is knowledgeable. You MUST read the text & study to do well on the quizzes and final - listening in class is not enough. So be prepared to actually do some work in this class.
I hated this class oh so much. I am a psychology major and I was dying while he was lecturing, I was so bored. He reads right out of the textbook, and the quizzes and tests are vague, and I just did not enjoy this class. I worked pretty hard and barely got a B. Avoid!
If you pay attention in this course you will do fine. But yes his grading system is confusing and his lectures are boring.
Great person, very boring lectures. You must read the book in order to do well in class. Doesn't give out homework except for reading assignments.
Severely confusing grading system from a severely confused professor. He is a very nice guy, who likely knows what he is talking about in his field of Psych, but when a prof. puts a powerpoint up, then contradicts said powerpoint, I have issues with that. Long, boring lectures and 1970's videos. Had to drop it, I was going to lose my mind.
Great individual, and he goes over the powerpoints which correlate 100% with book. He is very knowledgeable, so he knows what he is talking about. Be warned it is not enough to just pay attention. YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK, so be ready to read, but he goes at an easy pace so its only like 13 of a chapter to read every class.
I loved this class. Be prepared to read the book, it's a must have. He is hilarious and makes psychology fun. He really knows what he's talking about. There are only 4 exams, 1 group project and no homework, so you have to know the material. He also gives at least 2 opportunities for extra credit. You won't pass if you don't go to class.
This class was a breeze. I highly suggest highlighting in the book to study with. The exams were very similar to the practice quizzes at the end of the chapters in the book. With this being said, if you study, you can definitely pass with an A+ ! Professor is very laid back, however it's very hard to communicate with him via email.
I enjoyed this class. Group projects are in class, and do take a while Do read the chapters. It annoys him when people are sitting in class and do not participate. He totals points for the final grade, and out of 500 possible, 50 are class participation. Tests are multiple choice, you need to have read the chapter to do well.
Dr. Wilson is a very engaging person, and despite him 'reading out of the book' (as you technically would for any curriculum), it's interesting to hear from his experiences, and the class. The material given is really easy, as long you at least try to the work you're given.
He's just so nice
He is the best I definitely would take another class with him
He is the best I definitely would take another class with him.,,,,,,,,
He's a funny and nice professor but his lectures are boring and you have to pay attention and read the textbook to pass his class.
He's awful!!! His test can be tricky! Don't let his jokes fool you. He doesn't give homeworks, and no extra points.
Professor Wilson was dedicated to his teaching, if you read the book, and pay attention in class you will do well. He is a good Psychology Professor, he definitely knows how to teach psychology and he have a lot of psychology information to teach.
I had him for psy 202,201 and I got an A in both of them. His lectures are very entertaining and his exams are extremely easy. Overall he is a very nice person with an interesting persona.
You put in the quality work, you get your deserving grade. He is comical with his lectures. Very enthusiastic, cares for his students. Hard to come by these types of professors!
I took psy 201 and 202 with Dr Wilson for the summer. it was a heavy course especially for only 5 weeks but Dr Wilson helped out as much as he could. He understands students have other situations out of school and helps students make psychology fun. Definitely recommend!
Make him your teacher! He obviously loves his job and his students. All you have to do is listen to him and READ your textbook. He wants everyone to pass and doesn't play any tricks on you, it's very straightforward. You are given 4 exams, 2 class assignments, and class participation. Study well and make your grades count. Best teacher ever!
Dr. Wilson is very well educated in his field. I adored his lectures because he is so knowledgeable and eager to share what he knows. If you pay attention they are very interesting and enjoyable - not "just powerpoints". Take advantage of his mind! He really loves Psychology and wants us to feel the same way. (and theres no hw just come to class!)
I am Very Frustrated with professor Wilson. He's absolutely awful. You have to write like 8 papers and as far as I know this is not an english class but it sure felt like it. His lectures are boring and he is the most unorganized person I have ever met! DO NOT TAKE HIM!
He is Awesome I definitely would take another class with him
Hes quite lively with his lectures which is good, but thats frankly the only good part about taking this professor. Whenever you have to write a paper for him, he never gives it back so you don't know ever know what you did wrong. For some reason only accepts APA; so good luck if you never learned that format.
Three to four formal two page essays PER WEEK, plus discussion board posts that also have to be well written. No other opportunities to improve your grade. If you aren't an excellent writer definitely take from someone else! By the way if you don't know how to use Citation Machine for your references, now is the time to start.
I have written 16 essays over 4 weeks and doing that on top of other classes and working is too much and he post them about 7-6 fays before they're due and when people complained he just said "welcome to college"
He's very sweet and respectful, and I enjoy his lectures since he makes them fun and interesting. He's a funny guy. However, the amount of HW assigned for his class is ridiculous. My class was assigned four essays each week, and they had to be 2-3 pages long. The class is easy but it's too much homework.
The class I took with him lasted almost 3 hours, & even though I expected it to be really long and boring, his class is actually very interesting and fun! He expects you to read the textbook and write 4 essays a week and your grades are solely based on those, discussion boards, as well as a 5-8 page research paper and the final. That's it!
I'm actually in Psychology 200 but it wouldn't give me that option yet. He mostly put on videos and sometimes would talk all class about the chapters. He would give rapid reviews to help better understand the chapters. He also went from the textbook a lot and the first two exams were take home. He was caring and understanding.
This class is probably the most difficult class I've ever taken. He assigns 12 page papers every week and then gives you less than a week to complete them. On top of the 12 page paper you have to do discussion boards weekly that are thought out and well in depth. Lectures are interesting but if you work a job while doing classes would not recommend
An excellent professor. He makes his lectures interesting and ensures to input some real-world values into his teaching. Reading is the key to success in these courses, as it prepares you fully to take the tests and participate in the classroom. He is very interactive with his audience, and responds well if you participate regularly.
Amazing professor! I always found his lectures to be interesting and he always tried to engage with his students. Personally, I felt really drawn to his personality and he knows what he is doing and talking about. Exams are easy, all you have to do is study the quiz questions in the textbook. Highly recommend him!
He's a decent lecturer but the amount of homework he gives out is a bit much. If you're working a job and taking other classes then it becomes a bit strenuous. He assigns 3 page papers every week along with discussion boards that are supposed well thought out and in depth. Because of this, you do learn, but it's not a class I would take again.
I wrote more papers in his class than I did in my English class. WAY TO MUCH HOMEWORK FOR AN A.S. DEGREE! Be prepared to write a 3 page essay every week. He will give you a few take home quizzes then suddenly have quizzes in class that are closed notes. He will give you a study guide that DOES NOT HELP WITH THE QUIZ OR THE ESSAYS. And discussions.
(Hybrid course)If you hate papers, AVOID. In a 16 week course, we wrote over 80 pages of "quizzes"(essays), and a research paper. Syllabus doesn't have due dates; he will OFTEN give (in class, answering questions) the wrong due dates for assignments, and expect them on the right days. Replies to emails after a week. Too stressful to be worth it.
Bad teacher. Just stands up there and reads the study guide to you. In order to pass you HAVE to read the textbook. The study guides will not help you
I took Dr. Wilson for Research and it completed ruined my drive to continue a Psychology degree. He marked me down 30 points for attendance even though I provided Doctor's notes for the absences I had. He stopped responding to my communications about the matter as well. This class has a 25-page paper that he gives no direction for to complete.
He is the worst professor at nova. He gives us 12 pages of papers to write each week. I wrote more in his class than I ever did in all my English classes at nova and high school combine. Don't take him
I took Doctor Wilson's class as a dual enrollment student and considered taking a gap year after. He didn't grade assignments until after it was too late to drop out with a refund. His grading system is very harsh and he requires short essays for each online comment. One time I cried at my desk so hard a girl got me a trashcan in case I vomited.
Mr. Wilson did not abide by his syllabus and the course was entirely out of the textbook. His grading system was unclear, and waited until the last days of the term to grade a majority of the work, which left little opportunity for feedback or improvement. Average grades on canvas were a clear indicator that I am not alone in feeling this way.
Professor Wilson is disorganized using Canvas. Theres many misplaced files from different semesters. He grades your work right before grades are finalized. He does not give any feedback/comments on tests, discussion posts, or essays. The grading is unfair because he doesnt abide by his own instructions/syllabus. Not worth the stress.
Graded everything the day before the semester ended so no chance to improve or understand what he wants. A real jerk when responding to emails. Responses to emails clarify nothing. Doesn't know how to use Canvas and it shows. Made me hate psychology. I got an A and he said I had "minimal critical thinking skills."
I took Professor Wilson 6 week NOVA online psychology course. He didn't grade anything past week 2 until the class had ended. gave no feedback/comments whatsoever and didn't respond to the questions in an email. Professor Wilson is really unhelpful and makes you dread the class. I would recommend you not to take this class.
Professor Wilson gives awesome lectures! As long as you pay attention, you're good! The exams and tests are easy, no homework except for reading the chapters. He is very nice and understanding of students. This psychology teacher does his best to teach and has amazing lectures! Must take, awesome professor!
I already have a bachelor's degree so I understand the amount of writing that's normal for undergraduate work. This guy is over the top. His 20 point "quizzes" are 4 questions and each one requires a 3 page essay. Doesn't grade work promptly. I am 5 wks into his course and got my first of 5 discussion board grades. He is unclear about expectations.
One of the worst professors at NOVA. He has absolutely no substance and gets extremely defensive when someone confronts him about his confusing teaching methods. Extremely selective grading and no comments to help you understand why you get the grade you did. If any professor should lose their teaching rights, its him. Do not recommend at all. 0/10
The amount of papers that are done in this class are triple the amount I did for my capstone project if I wanted to take a writing intensive class I would've. He justifies time management as if everything revolves around him and is on his time. I work full time and have only one other class and I am barely keeping up. Don't take this class.
His grading makes no sense to the point where he gets confused about it. He blames things on students and does not take responsibility for his mistakes. Discussion Boards make up the majority of your grade. The syllabus says to respond to 2 other people, but if others don't leave comments, it impacts your grade because you are not engaging enough.
Worst professor ever. He doesn't give quality feedback and he does not have a consistent grading standard. When the class has brought this up he gets incredibly defensive and borderline humiliates students. He will say things are on the syllabus when they are not and have changed requirements multiple times. 0/10 do NOT take his class.
He assigns a ridiculous amount of homework. He requires multiple essays due each week. I ended up having to drop his class because it was too time consuming and I wasnt able to finish all his work on time. His grading system is confusing as well as his canvas. He also never grades work or gives feedback. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
He was awful, he always thinks hes right about everything and gives you essay each week and doesnt give you enough time. You have to write a essay about each topic he gives you and it has to be 3 full pages. When he grades, he never gives feedback or when you email him to ask a question. He never responds. Worse teacher at nova
He was single handily the worst psych teacher ever. So many quizzes and assignments with so little time to actually finish them to his outrageous standards. he is inconstant with grading and will not answer emails. DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!!
His lectures are amazing and contains so much information. But Plz do NOt take his class. I had to take him because only available class. He has soooo much work for psy 200. I have taken 3 more, they all have still lesser work than this class. SO MANY PAPERS TO DO. Exams are hard. Study guides do not help at all.
Very rude towards his students. Whenever someone asks a question he just ignores them and gets defensive when you call him out on something. He assigned a test when NOVA had cancelled classes He never accepts fault for any of his many mistakes and is overall not a good person. Don't take him if you want to feel respected as an individual.
He's super nice, but he's test heavy and the study guides and readings won't help.
Very rude and inconsiderate towards his students. He gets defensive when you call him out on his behavior and insulted a student for asking him to upload a powerpoint. For tests, he made us write 6 essay questions. Not bad, but each were a minimum of 3 pages. He gave us one weekend to write what was essentially an 18 page paper. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Prof. Wilson has been my favorite professor at NVCC. He's so intelligent and well versed in Psych and he's an excellent listener. I typically don't participate in classes but he likes you to be engaged and makes the space feel safe and inviting for you to speak. He's amazing and I recommend him to anyone needing PSY courses. You'll learn so much!
He is not a bad teacher and has a likeable personality. Workload is heavy though. Towards the end there were four major essays which can bring your grade up if you don't do well on the tests. You need to dedicate time to this class in order to get a good grade
There are 4 papers to turn in at the end of the semester, he gives study guides, but his exams were a bit difficult. He doesn't take off points when you are absent. His lectures are pretty useful, but you still have to study for those exams. He's not too bad, but if you can find someone better, you should do that instead.
Overall, Dr. Wilson is a good professor, he always made his lectures interesting and he is very engaging throughout the lecture. The study guides he gave us were kind of helpful and some of the test questions were odd. He also wasn't very clear when he assigned us our final papers and didn't give clear instructions when I asked.
Old style teaching, this is 2023. Students should not have to reach so much stress over one class. It's about learning not trying to find how to learn! You don't tell a person get that knife out of that man's arm. There are procedures to know that man is not going to bleed out. I repeat, teach! instead of letting students see what they can do.
This professor was cool. His lectures were engaging because of his personality and humor. Although beware to study extensively for his exams, as they were difficult. He would be apart of my dream blunt rotation
The professor is overall great at his lecturing job. However the quizzes are a bit difficult and revolve a lot of studying. He doesn't seem to tech savvy so he uses paper when taking the quizzes. His class isn't terrible, the lectures are very engaging.
There should be no reason why the class average is barely passing. He constantly referenced a class that no one had taken. Whenever he was asked for clarification he would dance around it. Like huhh?? Like he truly could not comprehend simple questions. (This was my first C in 3 years btw ) All in all don't take hi, if you don't have to
If you need this class for health sciences, do not take him, take Dr. Grodsky instead. The only assignments are chapter quizzes and a 6 page essay, no other ways to boost your grade if you do poorly on his quizzes (which are hard). Also, he tries to make you feel dumb whenever you ask a question about the content we're learning.
tough grading
Professor does not allow makeup assignments/extra credit/makeup quizzes/homework. Grade is quiz based. Professor rushes quizzes or starts lecture mid quiz. Students do not take the quiz at the same time, some students are advised to wait till after class while some already took it. Professor is passive aggressive. Lecture/TB doesn't reflect quiz
lectures aren't useful for the tests at all. everything comes from the textbook. there are two papers due at the end of the semester and tbh I don't think he reads them. his exams consist of small details from the textbook that one would usually miss. I would take this course with another professor if possible.
Don't get why there's bad ratings. This prof is very nice and his grading makes sense, I believe he just likes to go by the rules, like yes his lectures are straight from the textbook and we only used the textbook for everything we did but I really enjoyed his class, he's very kind.
This is the worst professor I've ever had. At first, everything was going well, just two exams until the professor explained we had a research proposal. I turned mine in, and it took him three weeks to review it.I had to send it three times so he could see it. When he got my proposal ,he reviewed it, in front of the WHOLE class, it was embarrassing
Very unprofessional. Does not provide clear instruction for assignments and is very hard to contact. Very rude overall, if you can find a better professor, take them instead.
It's really difficult to understand if the exams are lecture based, slide based, or book based. Especially considering we've only used the books to look at picture examples in class. He seems to usually prioritize elaborating on the topics of the lectures that are common knowledge of psychology rather than ones that aren't.
Often rambles and ironically causes retroactive interference of students' learning. Not clear on which to study for exam. Highly disorganized, rude, subtle stereotyping (?). Emphasizes the obvious while glazing over the unknown, highly threatening to those who want to genuinely pursue psychology. Outdated and physical media heavy.
DANGEROUSLY OUTDATED VIEWS. Especially on queer education, be cautious. Can be mildly offensive, plays it off as a joke, may be unaware or doesn't care. Clearly just elaborates on the obvious, extremely unhelpful for people who actually WANT to study psychology, despite him being a 'psychologist' himself.
Heavily based on creepy Freudian views. Will ask you questions that he's supposed to teach you because deep down he just forgets half the information. Exams contain questions barely brought up in class. Doesn't acknowledge the criticisms of some of these historical figures enough, leading to students to believe outdated views to be true.
Only does exams, and final papers near the end of the semester. Not responsive towards emails, and some of the questions on the exam aren't in the slides. For a starter class into psychology, I would not recommend as it's too much studying especially if you have other classes.
READ THE TEXTBOOK the notes barely helped on the tests. He means well and likes what he does but he isn't the best professor and I would recommend you don't take him if you aren't good at tests because that's all your being graded on in this class.
Honestly is a good class to take if you barely go to in-person lectures, textbook based on tests and papers. Keeps on track of syllabus and will try to get the students to speak (it's clear he'll favorite the above 25+ students). If you choose not to go for lectures, make sure to study the textbook and some slides, follow the syllabus for exams.
I would not recommend this professor. Some of the exams are covering 3 chapters from the textbook. This makes it more difficult to study and determine what will be on the test. All of your grades will just be exams because he does not do assignments. At the end of the semester, you will have to do 2 essays which are 5 pages each.
To be honest, he is an ok professor himself. If you're taking him all there is are quizzes and an essay at the end of the semester. If you do bad on those quizzes there is no other way to make it up. Everything is based of the textbook, even the class slides, if you learn by reading then go ahead but if you don't then I don't recommend him.
The course was poorly structured, and lectures did not align with the material on the exams. Lectures were not helpful for exam preparation, and concerns raised by students were often met defensively. Exams werent graded by the instructor. I earned a B only by teaching myself most of the stuff while many students struggled throughout the semester.
