It's only 1/3 way through the quarter but I just wanna say I love Dr. Pilegard. First midterm was really do-able. Her lectures are fun and she's super enthusiastic + she gives lots of great real life examples to help understand the topic. Not mandatory, but I highly recommend attending. I'm pretty sad that I only have her for one quarter :(.
She's by far one of the best teachers I've ever had. I feel so lucky to be in that class. Her enthusiasm for teaching, combined with her passion for psychology makes me smile all day in lecture. I wish I could have her for every class
I love going to Dr. Pilegard's lectures. I wish I had her for more than just one class and for multiple quarters. She's very enthusiastic and her lectures are very organized. Sometimes there's in-class participation, but they're very doable. First midterm was great, attend lectures and you'll know your info. Hope to interact w her in the future! :)
Dr. Pilegard is really funny and engaging but still manages to teach you a lot during lecture. She's one of the best teachers I've had and hope to take her again in the future. Textbook isn't required and lectures are podcasted but there's random participation questions around once a week. The homework is also really doable and exams are very fair.
Hilarious and charismatic, makes you actually interested in lectures! She podcasts so it helps a lot. Textbook chapters posted online, but I did not read at all and did fine. Exams were extremely doable if you watched all her podcasts! Exams were MC with one short answer, also gives extra credit. Random in class participation once a week.
It was a pleasure to have Celeste for Psyc 3! Im a first year psychology major, and I really hope I get to take her for another class! She goes above and beyond as a lecturer and a human being. It was my first quarter, and even though I got a C, I can recognize that I could easily gotten a higher grade. (Like 70% of the class did.) Take her class!
She is a hilarious lecturer so go to class! She has peer reviews which are group quizzes graded for participation and are VERY similar to exam questions! Dr. Pilegard is a fair grader, accessible outside of class (go to her OH for test-like examples for concepts), and REALLY cares about your success. Go to TA OH for research paper tips- helpful!
(+): VERY caring, exams are 90% from the lecture, hilarious: even with remote instruction was able to put her flare on things, she actually wants you to LEARN the concepts, her OH!!!! (-): Exams make up 80% of the grade, exams can be rough if you underestimate them.
Professor Pilegard is a relatively new professor but she was great when lecturing for Cognitive Psychology. She makes her live weekly lectures and weekly Q&A fun and interactive. The way she explains concepts are very straight forward and definitely are helpful during lectures. I read some but only to clarify things. NOT REQUIRED READING.
I took Professor Pilegard's online PSYC 3 course on Cognitive Foundations, and it was really fun and stress-free. She uploaded weekly lecture videos that are easy to follow. Her personality is very friendly and bubbly, which makes the learning environment facilitate participation and learning.
Professor Pilegard is a very engaging and funny lecturer! The textbook reading, lectures, and overall workload was very manageable, even for a summer class. The exams were reflective of the course content, although some questions could be quite difficult, the grading was still fairly easy if you did the reading and watched all the lectures.
I am taking pr. piligard's class this fall, she is just so nice, detail-oriented, and she is soooo cute!! definitely the best professor at UCSD.
Dr. Pilegard is by far my favorite prof. Since we're online, she uploads her lectures and assignments all at the beginning of the week so students can go at their own pace. Every lecture I watch I'm constantly laughing & the material is really interesting, plus she explains it really well. Weekly assignments are very easy, tests are not too bad.
Dr. Pilegard is a gem. She is very clear in her lectures and is extremely personable. She breaks the concepts down very well and provides examples so that it would be easier to understand. There are 2 midterms (25 MC, 1FRQ) and a final exam (not sure what the format is yet) but the midterms aren't too hard if you watch her lectures.
I took Professor Pilegard's PSYC 3 class. Her lectures and assignments for each week at posted on Sunday and you can pace yourself. Exams are easy and open notes (during covid at least). Her lectures are fun and engaging and the audio/visual quality is good. She also wrote her own textbook for this class and gives it to students for free!
I'm taking all online classes and Professor Pilegard was the only thing keeping me from ending it all. Her lectures are engaging and to the point. I always know what's important enough to write down and what is just to help me understand. For the first time I've been excited to go to class and learn. I can't recommend her enough.
I love Dr. Pilegard! She is SO sweet and nice! There are weekly assignments which includes a discussion section with videos and quizzes, but they are easy. The assignments she provides helped me get a better understanding of the topics learned in class. I would definitely take her again!
I took PSYC 70 and PSYC 105 with Pilegard. She is an amazing professor who shows clear concern for her students' learning! She teaches in a way that can make complex material seem more understandable and welcoming. She is definitely someone who is knowledgeable in psychology and clearly loves her field. Wish I could take more classes with her!
Prof Pilegard is AMAZING! She really breaks down the material into small pieces that are easy to digest and process. I completely bombed the midterm yet I was able to earn an A in the class. Make sure to not slack off on your research paper since it can get overwhelming
I absolutely love Prof. Pilegard. I wish I could take every class with her. The class content itself was pretty dry but she makes it so easy to understand and she's so down to earth, tells fun stories in class, and is just overall a joy. Always willing to help out if you're struggling and really cares about students. Take her classes!!
(+): Caring and kind, exams based on lectures, lots of EC opportunities, you get to vote on what the second half of the quarter looks like in terms of topics learned, group discussion, OH! (-): nothing!!!
Thoughtful and caring, coursework was substantial as a good amount of info to intake; problem is that the exam questions are abstract therefore difficult within the given time frame.
The best prof I have had. She was very nice and engaging and really cared about every student understanding each concept. She was great at explaining abstract concepts and tying things together. This class really prepared me for my future psychology courses. Tests were very easy if you study at all. Highly recommend!
She is awesome!!!!
Very kind and energetic lectures. Easy A imo.
Pilegard is an amazing, hilarious, and engaging professor. Psyc 70 can be pretty dry at times but Pilegard always kept my attention with interesting examples and explanations. Her lectures are very easy to take notes with, and tests are based on in-class polls and lectures so as long as you take good notes you will do well.
Very nice and funny professor. The workload isnt so bad. You have a week to turn in your homework and theres some extra credit points you can earn. Lectures arent mandatory and its recorded to go back to. Just make sure you understand the concepts of each chapter and you will be good for your exams
Her class is easy but tests are not. You can totally understand everything and still got a b in test because the questions are confusing. No useful extra credit.
Professor Pilegard's lectures are fun and engaging. Plus, Monday lectures are the only ones you need to actually go to/watch for homework, the rest of the material is pre-recorded. The tests questions were kind of confusing imo.
Dr. Pilegard is one of the most nicest professors. She makes the lectures very engaging and interesting. As for the textbook, for this class she wrote the textbook and gave it to us for free. Also, make sure to study hard for those midterms and final because they REALLY require you to have a good understanding of the material.
Her lectures are very interactive and actually help you understand the material. The only day you have to go is Mondays, in order to do the assignment. But the other days are optional. Her tests are mediocre: not too hard or not too easy.. if you study 5-6 hours per midterm, you'll be fine. Also, DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT IT'LL GUARANTEE YOU AN A!!!
Professor Pilegard is such a gem! We met 3x a week but you only really had to go to class on Mondays. Lectures were fun because she has this excitable energy she carries with her everywhere. Lesson roadmaps were very clear; she mostly teaches through video lectures. Make sure you understand how to apply the different psych concepts for tests.
Her lectures are engaging. You only have to go to class once a week, the rest are videos. There's a lot of extra credit opportunities. Overall, it was an easy class.
I think her classes are very inspirational and I actually learned study strategies that I know will benefit me for the rest of my life.
It is a pretty interesting courses and the materials are helpful in other courses at well! I would say she is the GOAT prof of PSYC at UCSD. (TBH, I think she's so good looking)
Dr. P is an amazing prof/lecturer. There are learning participation questions throughout lecture, but you can submit them at a later time for half credit if you can't attend lecture. All throughout the quarter we're working on writing a research paper. Discussion is not mandatory, but can be of good help. Overall, highly recommend Dr. P!!!!
Professor Celeste is so awesome! Gives many extra credit opportunities and has been very understanding with abrupt changes from COVID-19 pandemic (gave less questions on exams for those not used to taking exams in-person). Lectures are pretty engaging. Must attend lectures to get full participation credits, but still get half credit if you don't
Best professor I've ever had. Very engaging, caring, hilarious, and very dedicated to everyones learning.
The lectures were entertaining and Professor Pilegard made it so everyone had a fun time in class. The homework was fairly graded all exams were open note, but the self-explanation and labs were enough review that you wouldn't need to rely on your notes. Some of the content required more attention to understand but it was interesting.
This professor was a really nice human being however her class is super hard. The concepts were very interesting honestly but exam heavy and the questions are really hard. There are assigned readings. Mondays are the only days you really need to attend Wednesday's are online and Fridays are questions (optional).
Such a sweetheart, and the class is very well paced. The tests do require critical thinking, but are fair. Don't take PSYC70 with anyone else, she really makes the essay digestible and does her best to make the class engaging.
By far the best professor I've had here. She is funny and definitely keeps your attention in lectures. Her grading is very clear with routine assignments. HW is mostly completion and effort based. Her midterms are a bit hard if you don't watch her recordings so do so. I would recommend her to everyone. She's great and I'd definitely take her again!
She is a really nice professor but I found that the tests were confusing and the questions could have been worded better. The weekly assignments for this class are easy and are online so you can speed up the lectures.
This was an easy course due mostly to it being online, so lectures weren't mandatory. The final was a bit difficult; however, there are so many opportunities for extra credit. She goes over things in depth, sometimes rambles a bit, but it's online so that doesn't really matter. Overall would recommend.
Good lecturer who made lectures interesting and made the somewhat abstract material understandable with good examples and explanations. Lecture participation and discussion attendance were both mandatory.
Prof Pilegard is such a great professor. Her lectures are fun and she includes the class in "labs" which makes the lecture very interactive. If you have the option, take Prof Pilegard!!
Great professor! Lectures were not mandatory but really helped with grasping the concepts better. If you are thinking abt taking this class, take it!
Super easy class, well structured lectures, sometimes a bit repetitive. She's young and energetic, but her millennial shines through at times. She's great at relating concepts to the real world and gives lots of examples and demonstrations that are really fun. If you are looking for depth and challenge this isn't the course though.
The weekly homework was not hard AT ALL, it probably took me anywhere from an hour to three hours per week which is super manageable. Two midterms and a final which is a pretty good chunk of your grade. Multiple extra credit opportunities. As long as you do the assignments and actually understand the content, you'll do fine!
i had Celeste for MWF at 9am & i am NOT a morning person but she always made me want to go to class. so funny, so lovable, so relatable, and she makes the course material even more interesting. cheat sheets for both the midterm and final and one research paper that you write throughout the quarter. i'm honestly doing better than i expected
Very caring professor that clearly loves what she does. Energetic and funny during lectures. 2 midterms and a final that take up the majority of your grade. Not a lot of homework, and only 1 zoom lecture per week. Would definitely take her again!
Definitely one of the best first classes to take when starting at UCSD. There's two midterms and a final, all of which are open note, but they do count for most of your grade. There are also two homework assignments each week that take less than an hour to finish. She's the GOAT.
LOVED her. I looked forward to her mon zoom lectures bc she always had a fun demo planned. She's always super cheerful, and u can definitely tell that she loves what she does. She also shows her cat! Two midterms and final that are open note but do affect your grade a lot. Hw was lecture vid, quick lab survey, and mini self lab, so super chill!
She's super chill and VERY engaging. I actually enjoyed her lectures and they caught my attention. Midterms and finals weren't difficult at all.
tests are mcqs, suoer conceptual and felt like the tests were a bit hard. 2 weekly assignments, 2 midterms, a short minute video to be done, offers a few extra credit opps. her lectures were engaing despite it being online, liked her format of the class.
She is the best teacher I've yet to have at UCSD. Very clear, engaging, and actually sparks genuine curiosity in her students. LOVE.
Dr. Pilegard is a great professor, but this class was really difficult. The exams did not reflect the lectures and were incredibly tough. She explains things really well but the exams were not representative of what we learned.
Her class wasn't difficult but it wasn't as easy as it could have been. Her syllabus isn't that clear so it is easy to get confused. Her exams were difficult and her textbook is not clear at all. She says that all the content for the exams are in her textbook or lecture but many times were in neither. Still an easy class but you do have to study.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!! Graded by online labs (google form questions), self-explanations (questions about lecture and graded on completion), 2 midterms, and a final. And there's extra credit. An incredibly fair class, and learned so many interesting things. 100/10 would recommend this class.
Her content is honestly so hard to undestand and her tests are difficult for no reason. Her midterm was so difficult to complete in 50 minutes I was struggling and now her final short answer questions make no sense either. Why are there so many questions in such a short period of time like bffr.
This class although fairly direct and to the point, was super time consuming at times. As a non Psychology STEM major, I would find that some assignments would eat away at the time I allotted for my core stem classes. Nothing unbearable but can be hard to manage when all your classes are so content heavy.
Workload is intense every week. Participation for lectures and discussions matter a lot. The only reason why I'm writing this review is because she is deciding to have midterms the day after Halloween. Nobody can go out ON Halloween as Midterm is a 9am. How fun...
Pilegard was good! Psyc 70 is concepts, so it was interesting, especially in the beginning! Although, Pilegard's class is kinda a work overload: Quizzes every week, mandatory discussions/lectures, Sona, Midterm, Final exam & Final paper. So try your best to stay on top of things and you should be good!
Professor Pilegard is an incredible instructor. I highly respect her and the lessons she has to teach. This class met only once a week in person for demonstrations, other assignments were posted online throughout the week. Very easy to pass as long as you turn in assignments on time and study for midterms and the final. She makes learning fun!
Although I took the remote class, the weekly in-person lab demonstrations were very engaging. Her online lectures were also very organized and easy to understand. The assignments are manageable, but the tests were a bit difficult. You can tell she's one of those professors that are passionate about what they are teaching!
Overall, Professor Pilegard is a good instructor. Her lab assignments and reading/lecture quizzes were all easy A's. She offered a lot of extra credit opportunities. Many questions from midterms were based on either lecture or in class examples from Monday lectures. She's an okay professor, but you do have to study quite a lot.
She was a fun lecturer despite the material being very boring lol. Exams are fair.
Great professor but wording on tests can be a little confusing. Nevertheless, a good amount of extra credit, very easy weekly assignments, and only one "project." 2 midterms with great grade replacement plan for the final ( 3 sections on the final but only the newest topic covers the final score, the other 2 are optional and correspond to midterms)
Professor Pilegard did an amazing job of making lectures engaging and fun (each one felt like a little magic show). She made concepts easily digestible by applying them to real-life examples, which helps to make them less boring. Her course overall is very accessible! There are many extra credit assignments and opportunities to improve your grade.
Professor Celeste Pilegard seems nice, the class is challenging in ways it feels frustrating. The lectures don't align well with the material on the exams.Teaching team is undergrads who will be grading your papers, they have little experience in grading, teaching or giving feedback. At the end you discover the class was part of an experiment.
She is very passionate about what she teaches and her lectures are very entertaining (some of my friends would ask to attend her lectures). I always struggled in the tests for some reason but everyone around me thought it was easy. I would recommend her class regardless as she does her best to engage you and make her course easy.
She's alright, but her content on the test is way too complex according to how she teaches. There's too many uhs and buhs throughout the lecture and not enough leniency throughout the course like accepting late work. The test are what really are ridiculous and overall effect your grade. No study guide, just questions she answers.
LOVED Prof Pilegard!!! Her lectures make everything really easy to digest and they were super fun!! She also offers a ton of extra credit opportunities, and the tests are mostly based on concepts covered in the lecture. Reading is technically required, but the lectures basically cover all the content the book does.
Amazing Professor, though it was online class, I always went to her in-person lectures because they were actually fun and informative. Her recorded lectures weren't too boring on 2x speed either and the quizzes for them were also very easy.
Fun, engaging lectures and as long as you watch the lectures and do the bare minimum of making a cheat sheet, the tests are so easy. The content is also pretty interesting so it's not hard to sit through the one lecture that's given each week. In person lecture is not mandatory and it's better to just watch the online lecture tbh
1 APA style research paper, midterm, and final. Offers tons of extra credit and material is easy. Allows a cheat sheet on exams which can be printed. Lectures are very fun and she is very high energy.
Loved Professor Pileguard. Answered all my questions during office hours. Clear expectations about each aspect of the APA research paper. Discussion sections walk you through how to write the paper. Clear explanations during lecture. Genuinely learned a lot from this class.
Lectures are so engaging, it feels like all the info sticks with you bc her examples are just so specific and detailed when explaining concepts. Discussions are mandatory, but they are helpful with writing the research paper. Everything is explained in depth extremely well. Would take her for every psych class if I could.
Even though I already had an interest in cognitive science, this class only amplified that and it was truly so enjoyable. The weekly assignments are not hard at all and can be pretty interesting, and lecture wasn't mandatory but I still found myself going just because. Definitely recommend, this was my favorite class of the quarter
Great professor who has really simple homework and lab assignments every week. Opens on canvas, was due every sunday. Exams were fair and representative of the material although you did have to think more on the exams than the homeworks or practice questions. But she does tell you this in advance and really makes you think about the material.
The lectures she gives are really funny and she's a really awesome professor. The material isn't hard and all you have to do is listen to her lectures do a couple of assignments, and she's very lenient on midterm grades. Totally recommend!!!! This was my favorite class this quarter!
totally recommend! take it from someone who was somehow unable to come to any of the lectures (this quarter was on monday's) i still ended with a ~96-97. professor pilegard is nice and engaging, her exams are fair as long as you pay attention to the lecture videos, and actually do the self-explanation assignments/quizzes!
Assignments are easy, just watch some vid lectures and you'll do fine. What is taught is interesting and is taught in an engaging manner. Only thing that made me get an A- rather than an A were the tests, which I feel were quite a bit of a step up from the video lectures and assignments (especially since there is quite a bit of info that is taught)
psyc 3r has one lecture a week, and she always does a good job at keeping everyones attention and teaching the content in an invigorating way. There are only a few assignments a week and they can be done pretty quick, but the online lectures are usually an hour long so taking notes takes a while. There are a bunch of extra credit opportunities
