If you're looking for an easy "A", this is definetly the class to take. His grading scale is as follows:100-85=A,70-84=B,50-69=C,40-50=D. He also offers a lab which is once a week at night in the observatory, it's even easier than the class.
Teacher is very approachable. Your one page notes doesnt help during midterms and finals since his tests are difficult. BUT he gives a lot of extra credits. I was surprised I got an A! My midterm was 55% out of 100% and that was a B in his books!
Took his class over the summer. It's hard to understand his Brazilian accent but, he's a nice guy and pretty easy. I know I did bad on his tests but he grades easy. He just wants you to have fun & learn about the solar system.
hard quizzes and exams but he grades on a big curve. do your hw, do your projects, come to class, take the exams even if you do bad, and you'll probably pass. i got an a
he hella ez well not really his test is wack but in the end you still pass if you show him you willing to learn....
This guy sucks. He is lazy and his lectures are unclear. I use to love physics, but this class has made me dread it!
This is a "Hard class" no matter who teaches it, but Pr. Batalha makes it easy. He has great knowledge and he is also a nice guy. Taking 4B with him is the best way to pass the class and get a good grade by just knowing the basic concepts (of the class) and doing the assignments (not too many).
He is very fair, he gives lots of chances.
REALLY COOL TEACHER! THIS CLASS IS REALLY HARD BUT HE GRADE IT ON A CURVE. I HAD AROUND 40-60% ON HIS TEST QUIZES AND FINAL AND THE FINAL GRADE I RECIEVE IN HIS CLASS IS A B! BUT YOU GOTTA BE THERE FOR THE CLASS PARTICIPATION, MOON OBSERVATION AND DO ALL YOUR HOMEWORK!! BUT THEY ARE EASY THO!
It's a frustrating class because he doesn't speak english that well and his lectures are all powerpoint so it's hard not to fall asleep with the lights off. But he grades on a huge curve, so if you're willing to put up with him you can probably get a decent grade.
take him! he is an easist teacher in science. if you dont take him you gonna be regret
He is a very nice teacher. Take this class with him,you will be glad you did. I had a great time in his calss. If you do the assignment and don't miss any class, you will get a good grade in his class. I strongly recomand taking Astr. 10 with Mr. Batalha. Enjoy!
very good teacher, his lectures are interesting and quizzes and tests reasonable. just listen to his lectures, take notes and you'll do fine. i got an a =] over intersession
He's a great professor. He really cares about students getting the concept of general physics. Very reasonable and also funny at times. The work is fair and the tests is somewhat easy.
He was terrible!
This teacher is great .Take him you will get a good grade. His class are super easy .He is the easiest guy ever unlike other teacher are a **** and ****.Recommend to take him you will gwt an " A " easy.
You will not understand a single thing, but will still manage a B if you do all the labs, attend all class session and try on the midterms. You will fail the midterms but don't worry..so does the whole class. He curves tests so everyone who fails gets at least a C. Very nice and helpful.
VERY HELPFUL ... EASY CLASS!! HE GIVES TONS OF EXTRA CREDIT, I HAD AN 83 (75% is a B) and he gave bonus and I ended up with a 93% grade. Just do all the work and come to class and you will get a good grade.
Dope teacher...the material is extrememly hard but he knows that and grades on a curve. If you need this class to transfer take him..He's also very funny...

Hes a cool teacher and he likes to use to word daddy.... I had him for intercession and he gives out practice quizzes and alot of those answers from the quiz are on the test!
One thing I like about him the most is that he really cares for students. He always encourages students to study and is willing to work with them. Very helpful during the labs. Overall he's nice and great.
Mr. Batalha is cool! Astronomy is not an easy subject! The tests are pretty hard, but he gives you practice exams before the midterms. Do all of your work, attend class, and study and you will get an A. Do not listen to other when they say he curves the tests..because he doesn't!
Mr, Batalha is a very dedicated teacher.U don't need to buy the book. I failed the 1st 2 tests.I didnt kno what to study for. He dosent give us an in class review =/ finals was easy, study the example final he has online. ended up with an 87. Overall, take him he's easy, boring lectures but easy grading scale! =]
His tests aren't hard as long as you do your homework. He is very helpful and friendly, so don't hesitate to seek his help. He'll be willing to sit down and work with you. Lab work is reasonable. You'll also be learning a little bit about astronomy because he is so passionate in astronomy. In fact, he's an astronomy instructor.
He is the type of teacher that goes beyond the standards of an academic learning enviroment; he delivers his passion to the class. Physics can be a difficult class, but as long as you ask questions and do the homework, you can get an A. He is encouraging, enthusiastic and one of a kind professors.
Mr. Batalha made his lecture very fun and interesting. I was never bored in his class. His exams are fair. If you do your homework regularly than you will pass the class. I recommend this teacher.
He was a very good teacher!!!! I had a B+ going into the final and he gave a 5% bonus at after the final.. He gives lots of extra credit, is easy going, nice and approachable, and he likes to get the classes input. He sometimes lets class out early. He was a great teacher. I learned a lot... plus he made a hard subject fun and easy!!!! My grade: A
Very easy going teacher. Only expects students to attempt homework and try to understand the subject. Homework is done online every week and 3 exams. Extends due dates and gives LOTS of extra credit. I didn't have a book throughout the semester and passed with an A. All exam questions are on the online homework and so is the majority of class grade
He's so passionate with Astro, the inaccurate moon-phase on Sesame Street's Burt & Ernie frustrates him! <--Now that's an Astro-teacher! I love him =) He's respectful, dedicated & down-to-earth. Even after the course ended, he still remembers me by name when I see him on campus. He's truly caring & respectful for students' well-being. Great Prof.!
Class is extremely unorganized, and clearly plagerized. Can not explain subject. The class was lost. He did not follow the book Only thing good was the entire classes scores were so poor, had to grade on a curve then average grade was a B, should be D. Go to class for extra credit but dont take notes. Memorize reviews, a lot of ?'s are test ?'s.
it is so hard to understand what he says in class because he has a very strong accent. His grading scale for the class is kinda wierd and hard to follow. every week there hw u gotta do from wbct. before every exams and finals he has the study guides on webct. the drag is the questions from study guide ranges from 150- 250 questions =(
Lectures were super boring, I always fall asleep in class. Good professor. Gives lots of extra credit. Homework pretty easy. Test is pretty much based on homework and study guide so study those. I never read the book or listen in class just study the study guides, and got a B
Awsome teacher! He really explains everything in a way you can understand it. I took Astro at DeAnza and let me tell you the DeAnza teacher sucked big time!! Mr. Celso is great! Highly recommended! Take him he gives lots of extra credit and he's fun! :)
He barely passed me with a C and i have done all the tests and quizes he assigns! although i cannot understand a word he's saying! DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! he gives out pretests on webCT... and oh ya !! if your absent dont call in he'll start to keep an eye on you and check up on you attendance-keep a dl n you'll pass!!
helpful, nice, recommended =)
Batalha is such a fun professor, loves to joke around with students. He keeps the lab section in a very fun and hands-on environment. Astronomy has always been an area where I am lost in. His lectures are short during lab, but very basic and straight-to-the-point. His quizzes at times are a bit hard but if you study and do extra credit, you're fine
You don't really need to buy the book, simply study the sample exams he puts on webct. That's where his test question come from. Don't be fooled, his lecture is easy to understand but the tests are very specific. gives alot of extra credit to improve your grade. Hw is on webct as well, uses a clicker during class to record attendance. Easy B or A
He's AWSOME!!!
I had Celso for Summer 2008. No homework, just lab reports, 3 midterms, final, lots of extra credit.Test questions are homework questions but he changes the numbers around. 90=A,75=B,60=C.Easy class.Allows one page of notes on exams.Final not cumulative but you have to know previous chapters to do the later chapters.Uploads solutions for students.
Coolest prof. at EVC ever! Might as well get an A+ with 128% in the class! Super kool cat.
Nice guy, but his class is soo hard! All the homework is online and only take notes in class and use an iclicker for participation. Doesn't have a review for the exams and never uses the book. NOT AN EASY A CLASS!
I had Astro10 during intersession and the class was long, but he teaches well. He is very passionate about the subject he teaches. As long as you come to class to get clicker points, do some extra credit assignments and get nothing lower than a 7 on any homework chapter you are almost guaranteed a decent grade.
I took Astro10 during the intersession. He is a good instructor and knows his stuff.
I had him for all my physics classes and hes a great teacher but his exams are way too hard. Its amazing how he teaches astro, earth science, and all the physics classes. he really knows his stuff and hes a very cool teacher
HE IS AWSOME!
Such a great teacher!! funny and nice :)
I took Professor Batalha's online class this last Fall. Very helpful and clear. I enjoyed his class.
Mr. Batalha is a very nice teacher, very helpful. You dont need a book, but he does have some in the class you may use if needed. He uses blackboard for lec. save the money dont buy the book just use blackboard for ref. Show up to every class, do all the work, use practice exams on blackboard to study. if all your work is done and truned in easy A
best teacher eva
this guy is so nice. just show up and do your work and you'll do fine in this class. do you homework and come to class, his test are pretty simple, easy class. good teacher. funny guy.
Took online. Assignments and homework (Quiz) are very easy. Midterms and Final are hard. You don't really need the book, software, or clicker. Do the practice quiz because it's very helpful. U must show up for final! Plenty of extra credit. If you fail the fail regardless of your overall passing grade, you fail the class. Final was easy. 15/45 fail
I seriously thought this class was hard but Professor Batalha made it easy. All homework is done online. Exams are usually based on some of the homework questions. If you miss an exam, there's a make-up exam at the end of the semester for you to work your grade up. Took him for lab class & it was awesome. He's also funny & nice.
Fantastic teacher. He is VERY nice, and helpful. Has an accent, but is easy to understand. Textbook isn't a necessity. Make sure you bring yor iclicker everyday and study from the powerpoints. Take advantage of practice tests online, super helpful. Lots of extra credit too. I thought this would be a hard class but was totally easy. Learn rock names
Very easy to get A in his class. He grades based on majority in class. That means you can get A even though you got 60/90.
This class isn't hard, Professor Batalha is a nice guy. All the homework is done online through moodle, Most of the questions on the tests are homework questions, you need to get a clicker thats how he takes attendance and you get points. Although he has a thick accent and may be hard to understand,as long as you try, you will get a good grade.
He's an excellent teacher, I took his lab course for astronomy and although some of the class sections were hard he helped me understand it all. I definitely recommend this class even if you're not pursuing an astronomy or science major
I took this class over summer. He is very nice and wants his students to do well. We had 4 tests and a few quizzes. The tests are hard but he gives an optional cumulative makeup test toward the end to replace your lowest grade which helps alot. 80% of grade is tests. Be prepared to study but physics with celso is easier for sure
AWSOME TEACHER,VERY HELPFUL, NICE AND VERY UNDERSTANDING. TOOK HIM ONLINE AND HE IS VERY QUICK TO RESPOND TO ALL EMAILS, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS HE REVIEWS IT WITH YOU UNTIL YOU UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL. MAKES THE CLASS EASY, THE PERCENTAGE IS CURVED FOR OVERALL GRADE .
Professor Batalha is a great teacher, and he seems to know a lot about what he teaches. He likes to joke with students in class, making it seem more fun, and the homework is super easy. as long as you study your homework you will do great on the tests. I definitely recommend this teacher. Hes not bad to look at either ;)
The lab class is really easy. just show up get your points. the online quizes that he gives you you can take it over and over intill you get a high grade. easy lab teacher
His homework is HARD. Do them. He has practice exams on moodle (similar to real exams), be sure to do them. He's really helpful and his grading (not the exams, but overall) is pretty lenient. He makes up for his leniency using his hard midterms and finals. He won't trick you about the stuff included in the exams. TAKE HIM; you'll learn!
Not so clear in his instruction
Understands that astronomy is challenging for many. Gave two tries for midterm and grades very fair.
Very fair grading. Lots of extra credit opportunities
Nice teacher and very helpful. Can be unclear on labs though. I'm an average student and I had never taken physics before but I managed to get an A.
I took this course over the summer. Don't wait until the last minute to practice problems; go home and do at least a few of them a day. Very easy A in my opinion, because I didn't slack off. If you're lazy, then it won't be easy.
Material is a lot harder than his 2A class. He uses Webassign for online hw, which I didn't really like. I'd rather study out of the book. His test questions also come from the Webassign problems, so study off the hw. Although sometimes his lectures can be never-ending and boring, he's a really cool professor to talk to and he wants you to pass.
He is a great teacher. I'm currently taking his class and he is very nice teacher. HW is online on a site called Webassign, which you should do early because I would always procrastinate. You have to buy the actual book around $100+ or the Ebook online to get the access code to do your HW, which cost $75. He really wants his students to pass.
Continuing from my previous comments below, he gives 4 exams including final. On the exams he allow notes, but the notes can only be formulas and not examples. Lecture class can be boring, but he is funny at times. You don't have to show up on lecture, but his lab class is mandatory He is the kind of teacher that is approachable and very helpful.
Good teacher. took him online. you have to put in some effort, but it isn't "difficult"
I took him online and over the summer. This was by far the easiest class I've ever taken. I was a little nervous, but because I read and did really well on quizzes and homework, even though I failed (epicly) the midterm and final, I got out with a B!
Super nice professor. Love his personality. Exams are very hard!
Teacher is extremely hard doesnt explsin much in lecture. Expects you to know before he teaches. Unclear and makes mistakes often. 80% of grade is exams wtf. Hes funny and offers his help to students
good professor. gives students several opportunities to do well on tests and assignments. always responds to my emails. jokes around a lot.
Took Astronomy during intersession(online class) and I loved it. You can find an ebook online for cheap.Tests are extremely fair. We gathered at the observatory twice, wished we did it more. Gives extra credit if you need it. Forgot the grading scale but I know it was fair. Class was so fun for me I bought an astro laser by the end of the course.
Nice guy. Makes himself available to students and very concerned with making sure you understand the material and assignments. Lots of extra credit available.
His Brazilian Accent makes his jokes 10x more funny :) VERY helpful for the lab. Took 10L during the morning. We did lots of labs on the computer AND actually went to the observatory to look at the sun (safely). He did this lab involving chocolate. Helpful. Overall: A!
As always easiness is subjective, but Batalha is very fair. A lot of opportunities to do well, and there is no mystery in doing well, but at least TRYING to read the material. I took his class online and you do the quizzes at home where you have access to your book, but it is timed so if you read it once and know where to look, you will do ok.
Exams are easy but lecture is kind of confusing, pretty helpful when you have problem.
Lecture is kind of confusing, lots of home works, pretty helpful, exams are easy.
Took him for Astro 010 online and Astro 010L. He's awesome!! I highly recommend him. His personality is also great. I can tell he loves his job. Lectures can get interesting. I love the fact that we had a lot of work to do. In my case, exams were hard but hws were easy. You guys should take him !!
I took the online course and it was great. It required daily reading and assignments, but they were manageable. Batalha was online daily to answer questions. The observatory field trip was lovely. A really good teacher who runs a smooth course!
First test easy the rest a little more difficult. Long online hw assignments. Lectures not very organized hard to understand. Lab mandatory. Exams based on past exams not really on lecture. Book can be different version since hw is not from book.
Celso is a great instructor! He provides lots of extra credit. More than that his passion for astronomy made me really interested! He really cares helping his students understand. Also, he takes the time to individually get to know his students in the lab. Great class and great professor!
Professor Batalha gives very difficult tests that no one in the class is able to pass. Most of us are staying in the class hoping that he curves the grade. The tests are not related to the homework or his lectures. Not sure if we are learning topics that will be useful when we transfer a 4 yr college. Most of us had A/B in Calc, but failing phys4b
He is a very nice professor, but his tests this semester are way more difficult than the practice exams he gives us. You will learn a lot, but you will be angry during the exams. I failed the first two exams so horribly, hoping he will have a major curve at the end of the semester.
Celso is a really nice professor who makes physics a really fun concept. He's really funny and super nice if you ever have any questions. He doesn't trick you on his tests and is a generous grader as well! Wonderful physics professor! Highly recommend and would take him again if given the opportunity!!
He's super easy. I thought I was going to fail the class because I did poorly on the exam, but I ended out with a B by just doing the hw.
Celso is a good professor, even though he has some flaws in terms of classroom structure. He's good on teaching the material and explaining but sometimes he gets semi-side tracked. Might be a little tough on grading tests, you'll need to study a good amount to get the points. He offers some x-credit but I wish there was more. He's funny tho.
THIS IS THE BEST PHYSICS PROF AT THIS COLLEGE. Enough said! No, seriously do not doubt anymore, take him, you won't regret anything. He is very funny, extremely helpful and pretty easy on homework and lab grading. For the exam, he gives you partial credit for problems development, so don't worry if u can't get all of it right. Will take him for 2B
Awesome professor. Had to retake physics from SJSU and although I was re-learning the material, he was a far superior lecturer in comparison to my previous one at SJSU. Provided a lot of practice examples that were similar to what would be on exams. Made physics easy for me and he was easily approachable for whenever I needed help.
Batalha is an AMAZING person. His exams are hard if you didn't study one bit. They're hard if you DID study. But they're not impossible to get an A on. His lectures are confusing - so expect to find a tutor. He provides a free version of the book - must have. Overall, expect to work for ur A, but know that it's possible! He is a VERY lenient grader
I took his online class. Lots of slides with TONS of info but it was one of the more straight-forward classes I've taken. One thing I hated is that he made a night-moon-lecture at EVC mandatory. I took this class solely for the "internet only" aspect. It was an OK class though.
His class consists of 4 midterm, 1 makeup test, 1 final. No textbook require. Need to buy code for online homework (Webassign) Super easy lab. He does offer extra credit problems on exam. Each exam has about 5-6 questions. I feel really bad for skipping his lecture so many times lol, i just couldn't wake up at 7am :( he takes attendance in lab tho.
I took the class during the summer so it was really sped up. Regardless, his class is a breeze if you pay attention and practice the problems. Most of the homework is online (webassign). Test are most of your grade. Labs are fun and Celso likes to spices things up with his Latin passion.
He's nice, easy and funny. He might talking a lot during lectures that makes you seem to be worried, but when the tests came out. It's very short and simple
He is funny and interesting, but his jokes won't help on the exam. Physics builds on a strong foundation, so keep up with hw or you will fall behind quickly. Textbook is a PDF document that is not meant to teach college students. It is more of a review, so it was unhelpful for me to learn as a student with no prior physics background
Early on I thought I'd really struggle with this class and wasn't sure how I felt - however as an online class, there is ample opportunity with tons of extra credit work. Mr. Batalha is also extremely nice in person. Test questions can be confusing, but do the extra credit and you'll get an A.
This is my second time taking Physics, honestly my first professor wasn't good at explaining but I was so glad I was able to have this Professor! I learned a lot, enjoyed this subject. I recommend reading from the book as there is limited time during lecture for in depth notes. Tutoring is a must when solving online homework.
Astro 010 online, yup. Straight forward but you do need to invest some time if you want a good grade. Very organized and you know what to look forward to. Yea you can use your book during the online tests but its timed, so you can't just take it without studying a little because you need to know what page to find the answer.
Pretty simple. Do your labs, pay attention to the lectures, and keep up with the online homework. Also, has very interesting projects and cares about his students. Knows his stuff :)
I took his online intersession class for intro to astro and tbh the class was pretty work heavy. But the work was super easy! This class is an easy A, just as long as you do all of the assignments on the platform and ALL of the extra credit. Trust me, his final is really hard. A lot of his assignments are on quizlet and quizzes are easy bc 2 tries
Professor Batalha is a professor that has 3 midterms and a final. In order to get a good grade in his course, be sure to read the chapters and do all of the assignments like the Extra Credit and the Discussion. For the discussions, you have to answer it correctly otherwise he'll dock you off, but he gives you multiple attempts!
took astro 10 online and it was A LOT of work to be honest. i thought astro was supposed to be a laid back course but this was something you had to be on top of all the time. study for the final or you are done(in class). i think a lot of students dropped as the discussions got smaller and smaller. cool teacher but i would take an easier class
He will tell you to study specifically for something, and on the tests, there will be absolutely no questions pertaining to what he told you to study for. I am a 4.0 student and got D's and F's on all of his tests. He is extremely unclear about what he wants you to study for. I was stressed out the entire semester. don't take this class.
I love this professor! I took him for Astronomy 10 and Astronomy 10L. He is super laid back and easy going. He makes the class easy. I highly recommend him!
Prof. Batalha and Masuda are probably the best physics professor at evergreen. Extremely knowledgeable, almost always (99.9%) to help students seeking help. Read the book, do the homework and do the practice sheets and you'll definitely have an A. Very reasonable, and truely a joy to have for a professor.
Easy but very boring assignments (read articles weekly and discuss with others) and his tests are pretty hard but it's easier to take it online than in person. I didn't do so well on the final but somehow still ended with an A
Anyone taking phys over the summer would know that it's a PAIN. Lots of reading since the lecture hall is large and I can't hear him most of the time. However, he gives great feedback during office hours and really try to help you understand. Lots of homework as well, combine that with the reading and study the concepts really well, you'll be fine!
Took phys2A with him, then back to take Astro 10. I was disappointed to find out that it was online. Still, he is really inspirational during video chat hours and in his video lectures. I loved his physics class and also this astro class. Though it's hard to ask questions thru chat, if you can find him in school, he'll spend his time to help you!
Mr. Batalha is definitely very knowledgable in Astronomy. I would have loved to take this class in person rather than online. There was a lot more work than expected. The 3 midterms and final weigh heavily on your grade, but luckily it's usually curved. The homework is easy. Luckily there's extra credit, too. But be prepared for a lot of work ):
Given it was a summer class, I don't think time was well spent. He went over an entire chapter in a day, but didn't always finish. He focused on examples and practice problems. There were times he couldn't figure out the answer to homework problems too? I didn't perform as well as hoped, but he is very generous with curves and you can ask for help.
You need to study hard. He's very fair with grading, and willing to help his students.
Took this class during winter intersession so it was a fast paced course. Be prepared to read, the class was made up of frequent quizzes & midterms but if you put in the work youll get a good grade. He is really nice & sets the class up with plenty of extra credit opportunitys & allows cheat sheets on midterms.
Lectures well, keeps physics simple and straight forward. You still have to put in the work though. Reasonable amount of HW and reasonable midterms. Friendly and funny.
Fun class to take. If you are interested in the topic this class will fly by
This class was really hands on, working with equipment and lots of other fun stuff. As long as you know what you are doing (by listening to instructions and participating) then you will get an easy A
Great class. Much better and easier than other science classes that I've taken.
Give this teacher a chance. I can assuere you that you wont regret it at all
Best astro teacher around fr - lots of extra credit - interesting assignments - funny personality
His lecture material isn't in order, they're all over the place. Doesn't explain material well. Hard to take notes because his stuff is written everywhere w/o labels. Let's 3 student w/ prev. physics knowledge direct the class and work on problems that are way ahead of the current level of the class. I left, need A, won't happen w/ his teaching.
Celso is a very approachable person; any question you have, he will answer it respectfully. Being a summer course, we had a midterm every week. I dont blame him for being unorganized, but wish there were lecture slides. This class is impossible to fail. Do the HW, participate in labs, go to lecture, and you will get a B for sure. Do not fail tests
He is a very cool teacher and he gives a lot of extra credit. But, there is a lot of lectures that he tends to post online. But after that, he's an easy A. 10/10 recommend.
I took Celso for 4A during Fall 19 also and he is simply just awesome. I loved him. He will make you laugh like you don't imagine. His class demonstrations like with the shooting ring or the pink wig were awesome. He def can have some trouble explaining certain concepts but that is expected due to the nature of the course.
Hes a pretty cool guy, but since he never taught online before, it was a little difficult to follow his lectures and labs. Exams are fair, if not on the easier side (except for exam 3). However, do NOT mess up on them Bc theyre worth so much. I got a 99 in the class so Im pretty content overall. I highly recommend him for physics.
Cool attitude and an even cooler personality. Has to be one of the best professors at the school when it comes to explaining things when asked. I would highly recommend to a friend.
If you're taking physics, don't expect an easy A but prof Batalha is very accessible. He'll answer your questions in office hours and in class. You need to do the homework and study for the midterms because midterms are hard but he's reasonable with the final. He's one of the better professors from the physics department. Highly recommend.
He gave 5 midterms & a final which all account for 60% of the overall grade. You can study the practice quizzes and homework but that won't do you any good because you won't recognize half the questions on the exams. Same for the final. Half were never in previous exams or assignments. The last "midterm" was the day before the final. No study guide
Took him for summer and it was eh. Free textbook. His tests dont match up with the hw its mainly hypothetical situations. But for most test you cant even see what qs you got wrong. 75% for tests 20% discussion 5% hw. Do the ec it helps! Its not impossible but its a little frustrating. If you just do the work and ec youll be fine.
he is doing lab portion of the class i am taking and he is really bad at teaching! he doesn't explain anything well and looks like he doesn't like teaching at all but this is online class and maybe he is better in person? who knows, but yeah not recommended.
Get ready to be confused I talked to at least 4 people from the class through out the year and they were just as lost as me I say your grade is mainly showing up to all the class he checks attendance 4 midterm yes you read write 4 and one final if you ever got the feel that you where not taught something and its in the test, this is that class
Prof Batalha is one of the best professors ever. His lectures are some of the best I have ever. His midterms and final is a little bit challenging, but if you study you should be fine.
Celso is one of the best professors to take for physics 4B. His exams are graded mainly on the material he teaches in class. You can probably find the answers to his assignments online, but you should still practice the material. Also highly recommend attending office hours, he's super accessible and responsive to questions on the material.
If you are only relying on midterm/final exams, this professor is good for you (bc 70% grade on exams). Lots of HW & Lab are in short due, but the grade from those are not worth it. Final Project Presentation is only considered as extra credits (not really help to bump grades). He is kind of celebrity prof. He rarely replies emails. Not recommend.
Probably the worst professor I have ever had. He may be a bit too old now, as he doesn't use canvas much at all. Lectures don't get posted anywhere, there are no reminders. He's a nice guy don't get me wrong, but his lectures are terrible. He sucks at explaining and his handwriting is tiny.
Class was pretty easy to pass overall. The assignments were fairly easy and attendance is not mandatory at all but you do have to show up for the midterms with your cheat sheet of notes ready. He is also willing to extend a deadline for you if you just talk to him after class. I would take this professor again.
His lectures are clear and he goes through many examples in class with us. The exams are based on both homework and the in-class examples, and he often gives extra credit opportunities in class. The labs are relatively easy and straightforward; as long as you are present and show him your results, you get full credit.
The professor forces the student to use their own reasoning and encourage self-responsibility. He opened the possibility of using ChatGPT. However, he expects to see exchanges of ideas during discussions. The classic I agree with you is not enough. In my opinion, there are very few professors like him. Excellent! Note: No comfort zone here, sorry!
I would recommend this class to someone who really enjoy Astronomy. He is very understanding professor. However, he is not easy. On test it is mandatory to use lockdown browser and the exams are difficult. This class is not easy and take a lot of work and free time to do, would not recommend it if you want an easy A .
Really enjoyed the class but it was more reading from a text book than him teaching Quizzes and tests were pretty hard but as long as you fully read the chapters you could at pass. Uses lockdown browser for quizzes and tests.Good class if you are interested in astronomy just be ready for lots of reading and hard exams that cover multiple Chapters.
Professor Batalha's class was amazing. Many of the materials were self-study, but he went through the main part of the textbook through Class Discussions. Great teacher, one of the best I've had. I would take him again if I could. Learned so much!
Professor Celso is a really down to earth guy, if you have any situation come up just let him know and he's got you covered. The course material is very interesting but very repetitive in terms of course work. The only problem is that his grades are proportioned very strictly, tests are 70% of the grade, so if you don't study, you're screwed.
Although I took his Astronomy course well over a year ago while in high school, professor Batalha was a great and organized teacher who was very inclusive and helpful to my questions and inquiries. Not to mention he splits his class in half by doing lectures first thing, followed by a 15 mins (sometimes 30 mins) break and simulations till the end
Love Prof. Celso. I took him for astro in the spring, and he is honestly so funny. He always replies to extra credits with almost personalized messages.. like a "hahaha" or "omg!" added. I would take him again if I had the chance to. The only thing though is that you read a lot but other than that his class was so fun.
There are a total of 5 exams that are worth 70% of your grades. His lectures are okay. Most of them are not really on the homework. I highly recommend going over the practice exams because it would help you prepare for them. It is very similar to the actual exams, except that he changes up the questions. Cheat sheets are given by him.
He's engaging and knows how to teach. He was pretty flexible when it came to labs - for instance, sometimes there'd be no lab report to turn in, or if a lab wasn't working and he couldn't figure it out he'd get rid of it.
I enjoyed his lectures and labs. He's clear at explaining things, is very caring towards his students, and is supportive of students who struggle in the class. His exams are very straight-forward, and if you understand the concepts and do the worksheets, you'll no doubt do fine on them.
He'll give you things to study. Study them and you'll pass if you don't it's your fault. He was a great professor
First off, I want to say that a textbook is required for this class. One that you would have to BUY through an external site to have access to it. There is no going around this as the homework is also locked behind this paywall. Also, he is strict on discussions, as he will give you an attitude if you respond badly. Tests are on lockdown browser.
Celso is a good person but an ok teacher. His canvas is messy and misleading. Lectures are bare minimum and not related to hw. Hw is not related to exams but required anyway. The secret is to study only specific practice worksheets. Exams are worth 70% of grade. Group project is easy but unclear. Overall ok but study practice sheets not hw!!!!!!!!
I took Phys 7B with Celso, and it was good overall! He's caring and is a relatively easy grader. His lectures are alright. He provides practice worksheets on Canvas that have questions that are SUPER SIMILAR to the exam questions. The key for this class is to study these worksheets when preparing for exams. I would definitely recommend him!
Celeso's class was “alright” for me. He is quite accommodating. Homework is published for the whole semester on day one so you can get ahead. There are 5 exams including the final—he drops the exam with the lowest score. All multiple choice. You really have to read the textbook to understand and do tests. Tests are remotely proctured.
Professor Batalha runs a challenging but rewarding class. Textbook is required, and tests are strict with lockdown browser. Get ready to put in the work, but unstuck AI proved helpful for exam prep.
he's a great teacher, would recommend, just study yourself outside of class time.
Professor Celso is great, given the limited time, which is not his fault. He's very understanding and helps during office hours. Exams are 70% of the grade, and he drops the lowest. He goes over many sample problems, which do not appear often on exams. EVC should teach physics daily so students can better understand. I'm good at calc not physics.
This course is reading-heavy; you likely won't get an A without reading the textbook. His exams make up most of the grade, and discussions take up 20%. While his homework is relatively easy, his discussions are a headache. Expect to write at least 200 words on each of his discussions on things you have no clue on. AI is your best friend.
Celso was an incredibly understanding and kind teacher! I enjoyed his class, but did feel that his handwriting was illegible and at times made topics confusing. On the bright side, his lectures were engaging and made the class enjoyable, and there were plenty of extra credit opportunities.
DON'T TAKE UNLESS PASSIONATE ABOUT ASTRO. Take everyone's warning, avoid the class if you can. No exaggeration. Lots of reading, weekly quizzes + hw + discussions (very lengthy, minimum 400 words + 200 word replies). Offers extra credit, take advantage. Study the chapter CONCEPTS for the exams (5 exams + cumulative final, all remotely proctored.)
The lectures were okay, but I enjoyed his labs. He is always willing to help his students. Prepare for exams with the handouts he uploads on Canvas, and you will do fine.
