This guy is a joke. He is a new teacher. All you do is write essays..and he grades harder than any ENGLISH teacher I've ever had.I went into his class thinking it was going to be fun, and that I would learn about SOCIAL PROBLEMS! If you're an Obama fan, you may like this dude. I got out fast. You should too if you get stuck with him. He is HORRIBLE
Best teacher ever. His exams are right off of the lectures so make sure you attend class every night. He also has character which helps when explaining things. It was a piece of cake in his class. Take it.
I had this professor for 1160 originally and then took him again for 1101. He is very enthusiastic and has a good sense of humor. Also, he will listen to your comments and trys to switch up assignments to prevent monotony. The tests are only difficult if you don't read or pay attention in class!! Not that hard.
He makes you write a paper every week depending on what material you covered the prior week. Tests are HARD!!! If you miss a class, it is up to you to get the notes from a classmate.
This teacher is really down to earth. I'm surprised at the amount of low ratings that he got so far on here, but then again I'm also surprised at the amount of ignorant people in the world... Anyway, this teacher explains the topics in his own way and he's very passionate about his lectures (NOT BORING LECTURES, pretty memorable) Sign up with him
HILARIOUS! i love the wild tangents in class. he pretty much tells you what the book says in his own words which is great and makes it more interesting.there are papers due every week and he's not big on excuses or turning things in late. definetly pick him, you will look forward to class.
Hard class but great teacher! A lot of papers anddifficult tests. I learned a lot though!
He is a very good teacher. The tests are not very difficult its just tough that he expects you to know all the material and he only gives you the study guide the class before. He is willing to help at all times!
I did not like him at all.. I wanted to change my major after having him. He is pretty set on his views and any other ideas are "wrong"
Great teacher. Knows his stuff. Would recommend him to anyone who wants to go into this field. He has his opinions but lets you have yours. You do write several papers, but if you just answer the question that is asked it is not that hard. Def take if you have a chance.
HE IS A REALLY GOOD TEACHER DEFINETLY MAKES THE BOOK ALOT EASIER TO UNDERSTAND. ALOT OF MATERIAL ON THE TEST WITH A STUDY GUIDE ONLY ONE CLASS BEFORE HAND. BUT IF YOU CAN LEARN ALL THE MATERIAL ON THE STUDY GUIDE IN 1 NIGHT YOU WILL PASS THE TEST.
He can be a bit of a dork but overall a good class. He keeps it interesting. He does have opinions but let's you have yours and it actually helps to understand the material better. There are three papers to write but they are not hard to do. He tells you exactly what he wants on them. And if you study the study guide you will do great on the tests.
This guy is extremely liberal in his teaching style. He could not teach me well enough. He gives so many papers, and does not explain the assignments in layman's terms. I'm sorry, but don't we all have lives? If I were you, I would find some other professor for this class.
I wasn't sure I would like the class, but he made it interesting and informative. He quickly responded to any questions. Make sure any papers are proofed for grammar. Pay attention in class and participate. I really enjoyed this class.
I loved this class and teacher--I looked forward to it each week. He made it a lot of fun. It was challenging, but still enjoyable. His lectures are hilarious! I definitely recommend him to anyone.
Awesome teacher! Very funny and entertaining. Go to class and it's smooth sailing.
Great teacher. If you have the book you have the test. He lectures straight from the book. His test are straight from the notes. The writing assignments are numerous but easy. Take his class for an easy A!
I loled, I learned, I participated. It was an interesting class, to say the least. He doesn't take any bs & grades his papers very strictly. He'll totally make a man out of you (writing).
He has realigned my perception. Where is my mind?
Tests are pretty easy if you study the study guides and listen. He gives you a list of 15 writing assignments, and you only have to do 5. However, these are two page essays each. He grades pretty fairly on them. I recommend not waiting to do the last 5 papers, or else you will end up writing an essay each week on top of the piles of work you wi
Attendance isn't mandatory. In fact, you can pass the class if you show up for tests and do the few assignments you are given ahead of time. He is a funny guy and is very willing to help. He can relate to college students and will assign the cheapest textbook.
I've take Professor Pruitt for both 1101 and 1160 and thoroughly enjoyed both classes. Their a lot of work but their worth it. He makes everything interesting and you can get some pretty out the lessons while learning about Sociology. It was a Blast.
Love this guy. He's one of the best professors, no doubt. He truly cares about his students and can certainly relate to them. I looked forward to going to this class each and every day and I am so sad that it is over. Take my advice, don't hesitate to take this class. Just do it.
A little bit of Weber in my life, a little bit of Marx by my side a little bit of Pruitt is all I need
Professor Pruitt can explain the world of sociology in a way that is interesting and fascinating. Take good notes in class to make test prep easy. Put effort into your papers and complete the projects and you will do well. The projects were fun and really opened the world to me. I would recommend this teacher for SOCI 1101 or SOCI 1160. Great!
Professor Pruitt is fun and entertaining in class. He requires that you do quite a bit of work but the work is interesting and not too hard once you get started. He grades fairly and his tests are easy, taken right from the textbook. He's pretty hot too maintaining a young and kind of grunge look. I might take another of his classes
I've taken Professor Pruitt for both 1101 and 1160 and thoroughly enjoyed both classes. They're a lot of work but they're worth it. He makes everything interesting and you can get some pretty strange lessons and facts while learning about Sociology. It was a Blast.
Tests are difficult, a lot of papers, but SO worth it! He makes the class interesting, funny and I learned a lot from his class. GREAT professor!!!
GREAT professor, very fun and funny. I learned a lot :)
He is funny but hard...gives tons of projects and he is huge on grammar..he doesn't even really look at the content of your paper, just grammar..he should have been an English professor..I got one paper back and he had marked it with a red pen and put all of these commas in the wrong place!!If you're going to grade on grammar at least know about it
This was one of the best classes I have taken. He is hilarious, and knows what he is talking about. You have to write a few papers, but if you answer every question he tells you to write about, you'll do fine.
He is very intelligent. Class consists mostly of note taking. The tests are easy, multiple choice, and if you do the study guides you should be fine. Gives 3 major projects that are easy, yet require a TON of work. He is really big on grammar.
this guy loves to talk about his kid. loves toys, and little kid things and is kind of wierd.
Class consists of taking a lot of notes, but worth it for the exams. He's clear about his rules on the first day of class and won't budge throughout the entire semester. Overall, great professor!
Great lectures, very charismatic and funny. He is very straight forward, I almost dropped class, now I'm glad I didn't. My class had a vey diverse group of students, which was great for this particular subject. Gives study guides, study them and you will do good.Gives 3 projects. Grades your papers like an English professor, grammar, grammar.
He is a very nice teacher! His lectures are very interesting and funny. He gives a study guide for every exam.
Great teacher! really knows what hes talking about. and the projects arent as hard as everyone is saying. Would definitely take him again.
He was the BEST! Very funny and laid-back yet professional and clear! Not an easy A but SO worth it!
I have taken two courses from Dr. Pruitt and I can say without a doubt, he is the best professor I have had. Grades should not be the determining factor of whether a professor is good, but I can see where people are coming from with their complaints on poor grades. That said; it's college, not grade school; no one's holding your hand.
He is better of in a Circus, than teaching in a classroom. In the beginning he may appear funny, but it is too much. This guy is a character. I may say his teaching is average.
Tests are insanely hard. More than half the class failed. Copied and pasted emails from concerned students. Will not be taking any of his classes.
He was a great teacher. The tests are hard but if you study you can pass them. He makes everything easy to remember by relating it to actual situations.
While I really enjoyed the material presented in this class, the professor makes this class very difficult. There were questions on the tests that were never discussed in class or in the book. I had to research information further on my own to barely pass this class.
This class is not an easy "A" you'll have to study hard to pass his tests. He does not provide study guide's or any extra credit, and he mostly teaches off the book which is free online. He's an entertaining teacher, but does not care if you pass or fail.
I had Pruitt for 1160. He was really funny and made the class enjoyable. If you want to pass his tests, go to class, take notes, and read the book (which is free online). He will help you out and work with you during his office hours. I would defiantly take him again.
Two test; midterm and final with 10 journals given on fridays. The class is easy in regards to no homework, however the tests are hard. Be sure to study and be there for lectures.
Great teacher for his fun personality. His lectures hardly ever helped me with the tests. Luckily they were all online, so if you know how to use Google, you can expect As and Bs. Four online tests, the final is in class, and you will have an easy 5-6 page cultural analysis essay. He canceled class A LOT, and gave online journals in place of class.
I would like to say if you take this class you will not have the right answer to anything. I took this class being optimistic but the professor was awful. I could not stress enough how if your answers are not what he thinks then you'll be wrong. Would NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. Also expect NO MERCY when it comes to making any mistakes.
In my opinion, he was a pretty good professor. His lectures are interesting - just make sure to write down everything he says. The tests are tough and there's an essay/project that accounts for 30% of your grade, so beware. But overall, I really enjoyed Sociology 1101 with him!
A very entertaining professor who keeps the class interesting. The lectures are very organized, but the tests always seem different, or harder, from what we learned. He sometimes gives study guides which are helpful, especially for the final.
Mr. Pruitt's class wasn't bad at all for Intro to Social Problems. All tests and quizzes were online and open note/book. This made them pretty easy as you found most of the answers in either lecture notes or the textbook. The only complaint I would have is the final had to be taken in class and was not open note/book so make sure you study.
Ive had this professor for two semesters and his classes are the hardest ive taken. He is a relaxed teacher so most students will like hi but his his tests and quizzes and worded very strange so that two of the answers are correct and one is technically true, so its impossible to know how he wants you to answer the questions.
Dr. Pruitt is a straight shooter and approachable. Several students found his tests pretty tough (they are) but completely doable. I believe I managed A's on all but one. You will need to expect to study for even though open book/notes. He's pretty witty and his humor is somewhat dry so lectures are interesting.
Honestly would not take his class again. He has a good personality and that is about it. The online quizzes and tests are impossible. He also does not get back to you if the quiz questions are messed up until weeks later. Don't take this class. It's not worth the irritation.
He has a very bubbly personality and his lectures are very interesting. The test he gives are more difficult than what he actually teaches sometimes, and some of the material on there is from the book that he did not mention in class. A 4-5 page paper is also due that is worth 30% of your grade, but it is very easy to do.
Pruitt is cool. He is hilarious. His lectures are not just stand up there and talk monotone for the entire class. He gets every one involved and and uses personal stories about the subject to understand it better. I took his summer class so it was only 14 days with a quiz online every day and three tests, but if you Listen you will make an A.
I took Soci1160 without thinking that I would be anything other than bored and ugh.. I mean its social problems. Dr. Pruitt was engaging, approachable, and yet no nonsense. He showed true passion for the topics . There were of course notes, quizzes, and test. You get what you work for.I would not only take his class again but wish he taught more!
Dr.P is seriously so intelligent. This was my most difficult course in college yet, but he made it awesome. His class prepared me for graduate school more than any other. I also actually learned something. He is the BEST!
Dr. Pruitt is by far the best SOCI professor you could register for. Take if possible!!
Professor Pruitt was one of my favorite professors my freshman year. He gives really informational and inspiring lectures. He does however have online quizzes every week, but a lot of his exams are online as well. If you study and compare the notes with the book, then you'll be able to pass the class.
If you want a super liberal professor he's your guy. Otherwise good guy. Can get off in a tangent at times during lectures but keeps things pretty relevant.
This was my second class with dr. Pruitt. His classes are difficult, lots of dedication required. He's got a great personality and I thoroughly enjoy his bad dad jokes. In all seriousness, he will challenge everything you've ever thought you knew. His handwriting is HORRIBLE and notes are very unorganized. Also, he rides a horned lizard to school.
I took Dr. P for Intro to Social Problems. The topics were pretty heavy, and he definitely makes you think outside your little box. Research paper was only outside project, all tests but final are on D2L. His lecture notes on the whiteboard are very vague so make sure you write extra notes from class then use the book to help you with the test.
Amazing lectures but all quizzes are based off the book, test are based of lectures and text book.
I came Tuesdays and Thursdays just to be in this class and I do not regret it. This is my favorite class of my freshman year. You come into this class with ideas about society and how everything should work and he tears that down immediately. He has a fantastic sense of humor that he uses to lighten up the mood and is a bit of a nerd. He's the best
Very engaging, humorous, and objective in teaching. I am going back and taking his intro to SOC to enjoy his class time again. He will always thoughtfully answer questions in class. Has weekly quizzes all online and would highly recommend.
He is a good teacher, can tell he cares about his lectures. However make sure you read the book. His notes are not detailed. Also know he will not allow you to makeup his online exams, no mercy at all for exams or quizzes and for this class its all online. Overall he teaches fine.
He is an amazing professor! His class was never boring even for an 8am class :) notes that you take during class are not very details so you'll have to read the book but that wasn't too bad. And you also will have one paper.
Amazing Professor, I highly recommend taking his class. Very Interesting Professor and one of the most memorable. You will not be disappointed.
Dr. Pruitt is a remarkable instructor. Cant write enough about him. In this respect, hes one of the best at UNG. He himself is an inspiring figure. I hope he sees this and knows how much he means to me.
Great teacher, Knows what he's doing, and teaches really well
He really cares about his lectures and is really into what hes talking about. hes a great professor and a great guy overall. the class was very fun and educating 10/10 would take him again
Lots of writing-tests are short essays on readings & several 5+pg papers. Lectures on readings are ppt presentations by students. Little to no feedback on grading structure of assignment. Ask for rubrics-requirements changed days before due date. Interesting class & easy as long as you agree with professors viewpoint on the topics discussed.
Dr. Pruitt is an amazing professor: clear expectations, hilarious lectures, and he goes into the areas of uncomfortable that some professors skip. Weekly one short answer writing prompt that counts as a quiz that is based on the readings, lecture, and your ability to critically think. Lots of opportunity to participate in class discussions.
He is fantastic! Wonderfully hilarious lectures that are informative. He keeps you engaged and wanting to come to class. Very obvious he loves his job. Most of his stuff is online and he is very strict about late work. However, there is no reason to slack, he makes everything clear. The only bad thing is that his notes are too vague.
Professor Pruitt is a great professor. He will keep you engaged throughout the entire period. His test and quizzes are all online and is the material that is covered in class or straight from the book. He has one project, but it is very easy. His class is very easy and chill. There is no reason to fail.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! Dr. Pruitts lectures are wonderful and he has a great sense of humor. The only thing he asks from his students is to not turn anything in late. If you turn in something late, you better have a great excuse as to why. Other than that, I would definitely recommend his class.
Honestly one of my favorite professors Ive had so far! Hilarious, made class interesting and fun. All tests and quizzes were online and final was in class but it was basically all of the quizzes and tests combined.
Dr. P is one of the best professors I have taken. His lectures are interesting, and he cares about your success in his course. His tests are normally scantron based and follow along well with his lectures. He is quick to respond to emails and he challenges you in the best ways. I would take him for every sociology course if I could!
He is by far the best professor I have ever had! His lectures are super interesting and are useful in life. I enjoyed showing up to his class and never skipped.
Dr. P. is my favorite sociology professor. This is the 3rd class I've taken with him and have since learned not to trust anyone. Be a skeptic, do your research and due diligence and ask questions. In some ways, I've learned more about society and life in his classes than I have in my 42 years of life.
I took his class during the corona-virus spring semester where half of it was online. All things considered, I was very happy to have him as a professor. He is very liberal, but is respectable to students of other beliefs. He is probably one of the funniest professors I've ever had. Grades are online quizzes, online exams, one project, and a final.
I took him online due to COVID and he was very easy and understanding. His lectures relate to everyday things and just overall really good. He had 3 quizzes a week and a test each week. It was extremely easy and I recommend this to everyone. (quizlet (; ).
Dr. Pruitt is one of the funniest and nicest professors i've ever had! he is truly a great professor, from making every aspect of his field as clear as possible to the students to making all of his lectures funny and relatable. i truly couldn't recommend a better professor for sociology!
This is probably the best person to have for an introductory class to Sociology. His lectures are great, and he is also totally hot.
Mr. Pruitt's class was very easy. His lectures in class are very interesting and you never get bored. I actually enjoyed his class. He makes things very simple and to the point. You'll have a quiz every week on the chapter you learned, about 10 questions, on D2L. All of your tests are on D2L as well. I would highly recommend taking his class.
Dr. Pruitt is a fantastic lecturer. He fills every minute of class time with well informed stories and useful details. He used the InQuizitive website for homework. All of my issues in this course came from that service, not Dr. P. He is open to discuss any points of interest and isn't scared of hard topics. I recommend him for Intro to SOCI.
Take him! His lectures are interesting & funny. He uses InQuizitive for his assignments; 1 short assignment & one longer assignment per week (both easy). A weekly vocab quiz on d2l (flashcards w answers provided). The assignments are extremely easy, I got 100s on all. Easy online midterm. One project. Final exam was in person but easy if you study.
Deviancy class...interesting topic. Very few things for the grade. A mid-term, a final, a project, and an in-class presentation. He gives you the mid-term and final exam questions, so you can prepare essays (3 essays on each exam). The project was interesting but took a lot of time. He likes you to participate!
Great professor. Makes the class interesting but very challenging.
Honestly, would not take this class again. He's very funny and has intresting lectures but nothing he teaches is on the tests and quizzes. Few grades and he's a tough grader. Almost sassy and arrogant feedback on assignments when he didn't even teach what it is about.....
Best teacher ever. He is so funny. I wish I had this ma for every class. He clearly loves what he is doing. The work is really easy too. He's not too strict about you coming but I wouldn't miss because you never know what this man is gonna say.
Dr. Pruitt is an interesting guy to say the least, while his lectures are entertaining you can tell his political views, and he makes no effort to hide them or tell you if you voted for the "wrong" person you are a terrible person. He is extremely liberal, also he only has three assignments so if you make a bad grade on one there goes the class.
Prof. Pruitt does not care about attendance, and doesn't take it. What he teaches in class loosely relates to the textbook, but all the homework, tests, and quizzes are from the textbook. There is one paper instead of a midterm that is 30% of your grade and graded tough with smart remarks as feedback. Its an easy A with a decent paper grade.
Teaching style - Casual, uses great (modern)examples Makes sure you understand, answers questions well
Dr. Pruitt was a great professor. He was pretty laid back and he was funny and pretty lively during his lectures. If I could I would take the class again. There's not too much work in that class. Just take notes, read, and do the work and you'll be fine.
Professor Pruitt's lectures are engaging and insightful. While homework and assessments can be challenging, using resources like Unstuck study alongside the textbook helps prepare effectively. Overall, an informative class worth taking.
Dr. Pruitt was a phenomenal professor. I enjoyed coming to his lectures every MWF and he always was very understanding about my attendance. As long as you do your quizzes and make sure you look back on your notes, you should be fine thoughout the semester.
Ignore the five stars. He asks for people to give him a good rating. He always asks for it. The person that left a post here saying that he is very political is not understating it. It's pretty much the whole class. I didn't feel like I learned anything, I felt like I was being pushed his politics the entire time. He said %4- newborns are intersex.
Great professor.Knows how to connect the class to real world situations that are relevant. Does get political but never shoves his ideas onto people just makes valid points. Weekly quizzes about that week's lectures (4-5 short questions). One essay at the end of the semester with a 70+ question final. If you put the minimum effort in you'll pass.
