You cant PASS!! even if u memorize the book ur only getting a C max!
even if your a straight A student like me, prepare to do bad
great teacher, horrible test writer. very animated, has an accent like ricki ricardo. you will learn alot, he's definitely passable, but don't expect to do well.
test very very hard - ...if all you do all day is study for his tests expect a C
If you want to take his note, you should prepare the recorder. He goes over the material really fast. you should check the test and find out the errors. Hard to understand his Englihs.
This prof. is one of the worst here at sju. His teaching style is very bad, hes all over the place, very difficult to understand. Tests were hard and detailed. More than half of the class failed. Dont take him!!!
great professor, dont need to buy or read the book. go to class, take good notes & very possible to get an A. he has an accent, but it's still easy to understand him. very nice guy, who's willing to answer questions & help you understand. tests are difficult & you have to study, study your NOTES.
Hard prof, will lead you on into thinking that his class is easy, tests are not impossible but just have to read all notes and slides. Overall not a great grader but deal with it.
He's a goof professor. you will learn a lot in his class, but his exams are killers. you would have to memorize everything he says and gives out in the slides. i would say switch out, but if you in a block, you dont have that option!!:(
He does not know how to teach at ALL! He's all over the place and you get lost easily. Don't bother buying a book - I don't think he even looks at it. Prepare to fail all tests but he DOES give makeuos which is cool. But if I hear another thing about gout I will SCREAM!!!
his exams are really hard, but he does give a make up which the highest u can get is 50%. If u pass 2 of his exams, then he will pass u. I think deep down this guy cares, but heck his exams are HARD!!! he i think he tries hard not to fail u with an F by givin make-ups. btw, TAKE HIM!!! because the o
hardest class ive ever taken, cant understand the teacher at all.. i dropped the class but if i had to say one thing its to memorize all of his slides and notes, even the things u think he wouldnt test u on, he will, so make sure u know everything on every single slide and the test wont be impossible.. good luck
nice guy...teaches fairly well and notes arent confusing or anything...only problem is the weird tests he gives - they dont require much detail so dont waste your time studying and remembering things...even those that seem important...he'll pull out the weirdest questions but its all there in your notes...throw a dart and remember what it hits
his tests are hard. passing is 50. gives lots of notes in class.. can be helpful. talks alot in lectures, loves to draw on the board.
Everything taught is given out or said in class, I'll give him that...study your brains out people you'll need it. you CANNOT coast in this class study study study....why are you reading this? go study!
horrible experience. didnt learn much at all. struggled during the exams and tried to just survive. do not take him if you have a choice.
Lau Cam for Immuno is ridculous. even though a 50 is passing, a bunch of kids fail. RECORD HIM. I did taht and it helped me alot. If you get a C+ in this class, it means you would of gotten an A+ if you had taken Carrol. STUDY STUDY STUDY and LISTEN TO ALL THE LECTURES TWICE!!!!!! ALSO DONT BUY THE TEXT. ITS USELESS. JUST STUDY HIS PPT
One of the hardest professors!! I barely passed this class. You have to study the powerpoints like crazy. Every single detail.
He is SSSSSSSSOOOOOO HOT~!
Lau-Cam does not care about his students at all. When you try to go in for help, he will hurry you up as if you are nothing and are useless. He is one of the worst teachers I have had in my entire student life. He does not care for students
biochemm.. you will learn more in this class then u ever have before. Coming into his class i had a 4.0.. i ended up with a C+.. his tests are EXTREMELY detailed.. u have to memorize the slides WORD FOR WORD.. and yea i mean EVERYTHING. Interesting class.. impossible exams.
You start class thinking everyone probably exaggerated and hes not that hard...well ur wrong becuz hes freakin impossible...when he speaks the only u hear is shwa shwa shwa...ur sitting there trying to comprehend what the F hes saying u learn nothing dont study for the final becuz ull be guessing ur way thru that test, its ridiculous
worst. professor. ever. seriously, if you get this guy expect a D. his grading system is really weird, pass 2 out of 3 tests you pass the course. say u get 100 and 2 49's and you fail. his 90 question test is BS like him. switch out, you've been warned. (although you really can't anyway)
I'm just happy i passed! Good Luck ppl... Trust me he is better than stephani. I got a 35, 40 and a 60 and I passed! :)
he's really cute! and his handwriting is so pretty! but i had no idea what he said half the time. the class was SUCH a wakeup call. its SO hard just to pass even when passing is 50, bc you have NO idea what he's saying and you just end up watching his mannerisms. PAY ATTENTION! AND STUDY! all his crazy notes that he writes on the board too!
This guy is the best teacher for immuno out there. Explains everything really well, straight forward exams, and an awesome curve. Take this professor !!!!
Immunology. DO NOT BUY TEXTBOOK. You'll never use it. Write down every word he says in class because the littlest things you think you won't have to know will be the questions on the test. Professor Carol is the best, second is Lau-Cam, and worst is Cerretta. So if you have Lau-Cam, just write down EVERYTHING and study everything too.
In order to do well (B=well) or to even pass this class, not only you have to understand the concepts, but you are also entirely responsible for all of the details from power point slides, notes/graphs on the board, and every single word the man says. Literally. Oh, and GOOD LUCK to whomever is taking or will be taking Professor Lau-Cam's classes.
Don't buy the textbook, its a complete waste of money. You'll never use it. Just write down every word this man says, write down every story he tells you because that's what'll be on his tests. Also, memorize all his slides word for word, but more importantly what he says in class. Graphs, handouts, drawings, whatever..
He's MAD HARD. BUT .. TAKE HIM FOR IMMUNO. cuz..Cerrata's harder. If you have Carol, you lucked out for Immuno. If you have Lau-Cam, you also lucked out because you didn't get stuck with Cerreta who is impossible.
he is a brilliant and nice prof., but this is a difficult class. to pass/do well, dont buy the book. go to class, take great notes, study all the details from the notes and powerpoints. a taperecorder heped some ppl. he doesnt curve, but he will throw out questions from the test if u contest them. is def. better than cerretta/hardej.

Very nice man but very hard... he's very smart but you have to know every little thing on his slides and anything he says in class (but he's a little hard to understand with his accent).. doesn't give A's
infectious disease: nice prof, may have a lot of material, but if you just read it over and over again, his tests are manageable. it's not impossible. so what if he freaking ruined your GPA, it's not his fault. just study.
He may be one of the brillant professors out there. There is no limit to his knowledge and he does explain everything well. However, his exams are near impossible. Only good thing, if you had him earlier and thought his biochem exams were impossible... if you hold on to that mentality you will do fine for nutraceutics. Study
Wow. I had this man 33 years ago and received the 2 lowest grades that I earned in pharmacy school. Two D's---I earned them---and I was grateful. His exams were trivia tests. Cannot study concepts because none were tested. Minutia, study minutia. It's counterintuitive, but this advice, et al will serve you well. Good luck!!
I wish I had listened to the prior comments and studied every little detail because it truly is what the tests are about. If you don't pay attention or study the slides thoroughly, there is no way to make up for the bad grade so make sure to know the minute details. Book isn't necessary.
as stated, his exams are difficult and require you to really know the material [study slides, takes good notes] bc his exams have choices like a, b, a+b, all, etc. aside from that, he is a really good teacher! he may not follow a book, but he teaches in topics and goes over things several times. i have carroll now, but i sort of miss his teaching!
Brilliant man, but unfortunately brilliance does not mean ability to teach. He is lofty and high up and cares more for his personal research than his students. It's a shame. Avoid if possible.
Difficult professor, especially on exams. Avoid unless you enjoy getting low grades.
He's really funny and gives you all the notes u need for the tests. Tests are not bad at all. Don't have to know every single detail on his slides, just know general concepts. Only thing that i didnt like was that u needed 95 for A and 90 was only A-. However.. u only need a 50 to pass. Not sure if he curves..
He is completely useless. His lectures contradict his notes, which contradict textbook. Goes all over the place and can't explain anything. 95 = A. Tests are doable only IF you MEMORIZE EVERYTHING. Go review your test, cause you can argue for points. Avoid at all cost. He ruined my 4.0, enough said.
It's so sad that he's into his own personal research and is totally uncaring about his students' academics. He's here for his lab, his salary, his assistants, but never for his students or classes.
Just avoid him completely for biochem. If think you have a chance to do good in his class think again. I got a 3.9 last semester and found most of my classes easy but this guy is just horrible. Recommendation: transfer out ASAP. Believe me you do not want to take Biochem over during the summer.
I you ever have him for biochem, either switch out early or just drop it. He is by far the worst teacher ever. Passing is a 50 for his tests but AND if you fail you get a makeup. BUT at least 10 people fail the tests and the makeup is even harder than the test so no one has passed his makeups yet. Just switch out or drop him, trust me on this.
an honest review about this guy: 1 - he talks every second of the class and everything he says/writes/thinks is possibly on the exam. 2 - despite what people think, he and his tests is not IMPOSSIBLE. i walked away with a grade i'm satisfied with. it's in how you approach it. 3 - YOU DO NOT NEED THE TEXTBOOK PERIOD. 4 - drop it if you still can.
This professor is a hard professor. You do not need textbook and everything he says is on test. There is no curve and in everything, 70% of the class will get a "D" as their final grade. This professor is a nice guy but it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a good grade in his class. I had him for Biochemistry and Immunology - trust me, I know him well.
had him for immunology. everyone complained how his class is impossible, but I managed to walk away with a B. It all depends on how much you're willing to study, and you MUST STUDY. his exams are hard, no one will get an A, I promise you. But it is possible to pass. i personally liked his teaching style a lot, which helped me get this grade.
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!
Gives good notes but there's so much to know beyond that. Exams are long and hard. Good luck if you have him cuz he only gives out C's & D's :(
Tests are tricky as they have many similar answers Must copy down everything he says in lecture If you can keep good notes and study hard you will get a decent grade Make sure to memorize everything There's lots of material so start studying from day1. Most important thing:Go to every lecture and take great notes. People who fail didn't work hard
1. Very hard to hear + poor handwriting 2. About 15% of the exam material was not taught. (Guess) 2. Fails to go over the basics of immunology (Too specific in the material) 3. 25% of class is understanding 75% is memorization 4. Exams mega hard + confusing.. 5. Is passable .. but the experience is fearful/stressful 1.

Has an accent like ricki rikardo and wears thick glasses. his teaching style maks me want to get high
This is the first time I've had him. I was actually scared for quizzes and the midterm...but he asked us nothing that wasn't straight from the slides, diluted and emphasized in class. At least, for the midterm--for the final he went a bit more specific, but nothing crazy and nothing that wasn't at least derived from the slides. Easy!
The reviews were true. His test was extremely specific and some of the questions were never taught or in the slides. Not many, but there were some. Also, it seems that the difficulty of his tests are increasing. He gave us practice problems from prior tests and they weren't so bad. They were doable. But this test....insanely hard
Gives interesting lectures, but his tests are inane, senseless. Multiple choice questions in which every choice is correct. One must perform some sort of voo-doo in order to divine which answer he's looking for. Another exercise in absurdity from STJ.
Master of deception when it comes to conveying information on his notes and slides
Thinks CO2 is polar. Enough said.
Extremely nice person, terrible as a professor. His slides are sometimes wrong, so you can't rely on those. You either have to go to class and take amazing notes or ask someone else for them. Textbook was useless, he didn't follow it. Oh and the reviewer before me is right, this dude thinks CO2 is polar like wat. Thx laucam for destroying my 3.9.
I can tell he's a great guy because I had a conversation with him about our personal lives but he is an awful teacher. He writes his own ppts and prints them out for you but his lectures don't correspond to them. His tests are extremely hard and mostly MC. There is no arguing with him bc he will get mad and make a scene while saying you're wrong
All of his test was based on what he said in class, but his lectures were often unclear or he'd contradict things in his handouts or online. At least 20% of the questions he will grade wrong so make sure that you go to him (in private is best, he'll actually listen then) to get points back for those questions. He lets you retake tests (for a D).
For his questions just memorize the structures and what they do. You don't need to know brand names at all even though they are on his slides. Just focus on the acne and psoriasis slides. Just know Structures and information about them. NO BRAND NAMES. Skim over sunscreen. There is only one question about sunscreens and insectides on the test.
Thought that Adenine and Guanine were opposite each other on the DNA double helix... Severely confused individual.
You will not learn anything from this man. And don't even bother asking a question - he will just get super mad. What he says contradicts his own powerpoints. The tests are ridiculously hard, and he always misgrades, so see him outside of class and you will get points back. My advice is to self-teach everything and fact check his notes.
He is the absolute worst professor Ive ever had in my entire life. This man is going senile. He is severely confused, & doesn't even know what IUPAC stands for. His exams are extremely difficult and he asks you the most random questions on them. Going to class is a waste because he's all over the place. Drop the class immediately or RIP to your GPA
One of the worst professors at SJU. Lectures are not cohesive and do not correspond to the textbook at all. I agree with the other reviewer who said that he is going senile. He does not keep track of students' grades so good luck knowing how you are doing in the class. Tried going to his office hours to get help and he wasnt at his own office hours
Terrible.
For D&D Skin Medchem, memorize the structures of each drug. Yes, it's impossible but you need to try. Make flash cards. For example, beta blockers will have a common structure, but then think of something creative to differentiate between the individual drugs. Know MOA and uses. Ignore products, strengths, dosages.
This professor was one of the worst professors Ive ever had at SJU. He is completely unorganized, doesnt assign any homework. No quizes . Only two tests that are extremely difficult and almost impossible to pass because of lack of material. Switch out of this class immediately, dont wait like I did.
I will never forget this man. His class was the worst experience I ever had. I thought people were just exaggerating, but it was worse than I thought. The majority of students failed all the exams. There is just too much to say about this so I'll wrap it up by saying: do not take his class. It will be the most stressful class you will ever take.
NEVER TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! DROP IT IMMEDIATELY!!! THE WORST PROFESSOR IN SJU. The opinions in front of me are all TRUE!!!Hard test and lecture don't relate to the test. This class has gave me a really hard time. Don't risk it or you will definitely regret!!!
I can't understand how he is allowed to teach. He does so much that is not only against the unversity's guidelines, but is illegal. He tells other students your grades and changes the final exam schedule to suit him, which he is not allowed to do. He's the worst sju has to offer, and he just simply and truly does not care.
Horrible! You won't pass no matter how hard you try. Tests have nothing to do with the minimal, unorganized slides he gives. More than half of the class always fails his three tests. Barely any curve is given even if it means half the class failing the course.
If you get him just withdraw and take it in the summer to get your money back even if u have to take lab. He's tenured and he's in charge of himself so he can't be fired.
if you have him good luck or RIP i mean either way he'll be upset if you pass or fail his class
If you can avoid his class, AVOID. I can't stress how important it is to memorize the information in his slides. All the little things. What I've realized is that you don't need to understand how anything works. It's a waste of time. If you can choose between going to class and making some flash cards to memorize the slides, memorize the slides.
worst professor at SJU. He doesnt listen to students and lies. Drop out of his class. I don't understand why hes still not fired.
Cannot teach and tests are impossible. No words can describe how horrible his teaching and exams are. There is no way to pass his class no matter how hard you try. Rude personality. Tests are all based on the slides but test questions may come from the fine prints. SWITCH OUT OR WITHDRAW IF POSSIBLE!!
He's the worst sju has to offer. Tests are extremely difficult and more than half the class fails barely any curve given. Very rude as well. Drop the class immediately.
The reviews don't have enough space to explain how bad he is. I'm sure he's not a bad person (even though he gets upset at people pointing out errors in his exams) but I don't know how he's licensed to teach. I don't understand how he won't even at least use a textbook for people to learn from. This is not an exaggeration, drop the class ASAP.
Grade is based on three exams. Must attend the class for the notes even though class is extremely disorganized. He makes a ton of mistakes on the exams, answer key, and on calculating your final grade. He gets mad when you ask questions in class. Has a terrible grading method on calculating your grade. NO CURVE. memorize everything including pics.
Had him for nutraceutics, majority of the class failed the first test. Test questions are so random and not based on anything taught in class
It's important to understand that the university uses him to weed out students. If you complain to them, they won't listen because they want him to fail students so the program isn't too saturated. The best advice if you have him, and take this from a student with a near perfect GPA, try to survive. Do your best to try and survive. Go for the C.
He is the worst professor for Biochem. His lectures are full of mistakes and he also makes errors when grading tests. His tests are very detail-oriented, so know every picture the slides, because there are barely any words. If you can, DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Im going to be straight up with you. Laucam is hard. But I got an A. Was it easy? no. I had to study maybe 2 hours per test, which is twice as much as I normally study. But prof laucam is super accessible outside of class. You dont need to go to class cause its all slides anyway. He curves you a lot now, so most people pass with B or higher.
Im not sure what this person below me is saying but he is definitely the one professor in all of SJU that gave me the hardest time. I go an A in all 3 chem classes but could barely get the C for this class. He is not helpful and he does not curve. Good luck if you cant switch out, my anxiety started from his class.
His pleasure is to see how many students he manages to fail. That's his goal in life. He has tenure so he doesn't care. The board exams were not difficult compared to his exams.
