Very chill and relaxed teacher. Will slow down for you if needed. I didn't even use the Textbook but his lectures are VERY clear and VERY precise allowing you to skip the book all together. I recommend him if you plan on taking Microecon.
Great lecturer! Extremely nice, cool, and helpful. However, he's a hard grader. But, you'll learn a lot from him. He grades notecards for attendance, but he doesn't tell you when he'll be grading those so attend class on a regular basis for a decent grade.
awesome teacher. if you listen to his lectures and take notes you'll do great on his tests. don't focus on the book so much, just listen to him. the hour goes by fast because he makes it interesting.
He's a great teacher. His lectures are clear and easy to understand. However, his tests are hard. Do prepare in advance. His expectation in students is quite high. Therefore, do read text books before going to class in order to catch up with his discussion. Grading is kind of hard too. Overall, he is knowledgeable and interesting to listen to.
Best Teacher I never had. His classes are very interesting. He's a funny teacher and makes the course interesting. Very helpful when you need it. He gives you extra credit assignment if you are below the class. 2 take home essays (Past/Present paper) and 2 inclass essays(Midterm and finals) with using a note card. Work hard and you will get an A.
One of the best profs I've had! His lectures are interesting, clear, and often funny. He answers questions well and applies the material to current events. His tests do require you to know the material well though. Attendance is part of your grade, and no extra credit available so far. Great prof, would absolutely recommend!
I loooved this class! Chace is everything that is right with the world. He's an awesome lecturer, passionate about his subject and cares about his students. Go to class, take notes, and memorize the notes for the test. This class changed the way I feel about school and he made me want to be a better student. Team Stiehl!!
Great teacher, great class
Super nice and easy as long as you attend class and read the novel that's required. Easy to pass. Love Chace attitude.
Great lecturer. Very interesting teaching style. Keeps class involved thru interactive teaching methods. Relates topics to relevant topics. Tests are essay format and not easy, but you are allowed a double-sided notecard. I'd definitely recommend taking his class. You will use the knowledge from his class in the real world, regardless of what u do.
interesting class. you do read a book other then your textbook which is on tested on. test are formal. you will over study for his tests cause his study guide covers everything but the test will only be bits and pieace of what you learned. focus on the main suject and youll do fine. usually 2nd exam is better then first. hard to fail this class.
Really like his teaching style. Keeps you involved and is very clear. Tests are pretty tough; stay on top of all the material so that first one doesn't ruin your confidence.
I took Steihl for macroeconomics and it was one of my favorite classes ever. He's an outstanding professor; he can explain anything in a way that somehow makes it all come together and make perfect sense. His exams are essay style and not that hard if you've studied, read, and come to class.
Prof Stiehl exhibited a disengaging (and sometimes disorganized) lecturing style that too often left me confused. So, I mostly relied on the textbook, which didn't prepare me well for his exams. After taking this class, I don't feel comfortable taking advanced classes in Macro. I recommend avoiding Prof Stiehl's class during the summer quarter.
econ is difficult. but Chace make it easy because he is very helpful. He even reply your message on weekend. What a wonderful teacher. His exams are 10 multiple choices and 2 essays questions. If you prepared for his class, A is guaranteed.
Economic development in the US class. Chase is amazing! He is super enthusiastic about econ which is such a relief. Don't get the textbook, he tells you everything you to know in his lectures, but I would recommend this class to anyone! I LOVED it
A very supportive and hard working professor on behalf of his students. I learned a lot in a short time. He can make economics make sense and he relates it to the real world. Take the class, you will not be sorry.
I had Chace for both micro and econ development and was blown away in both. He is a superb educator. His lectures are interactive and never boring; his knowledge of economics is unquestionable; and he is incredibly helpful if you have any questions or troubles. He's also young for a professor, which allows him to connect with students even more.
Professor is super understanding and knows what he is talking about. He takes the time to understand where students get lost if you ask questions in class. Make sure to read the online readings before class, he usually has questions set up for them. You really need to be willing to learn to get something out of this class.
I just took the final and can pretty much say, Chace is an excellent professor. The only thing I may say is his essay questions on tests are a bit long but no question is ask unfairly. He will meet for office hours, go over problems, has study days in class, and most of all can simplify difficult stuff yet force you to apply your knowledge.
Excellent teacher! Knows a lot about econ and isn't biased and one sided. Great lecturer. Many of his lectures are quite interesting which says something coming from something who dislikes lectures. Layout of the class is great. Read, group work, fairly easy HW, solidly built tests that aren't to hard or too easy. great class. Highly recommended
Chace is very interactive professor. I am taking Political Economy. He loves what he does. He really wants everyone to succeed and is there to help. Weekly quizzes. He gives you an outline of the topics to focus on in the beginning of each chapter. Overall awesome experience! Take him if you want to learn something because he is very knowledgable:)
great prof. was super clear with his lectures. However, you have to read a book. Only thing I didn't like about the class. He is super helpful and makes class really fun!
Chace is a great instructor. At times the material can be challenging conceptually, but he explains it an intuitive manner and consistently reminds students that he is more than happy to see them during office hours. He also offers a lot of extra credit and really cares about seeing his student succeed. Highly recommend taking Econ with Chace.
Chace's the best instructor at BC.He's so interactive. His lectures're so clear. He puts his hard work in.I disturbed him during weekends and he responded in a few seconds. I learned so much!I'm not native speaker and, honestly speaking, this class was a little difficult for me, but Chace made it so interesting! I would take Econ with Chace again!
ECON 202 was my best class at BC. I can say the same about Chace. There are many good instructors but Chace is extremly different. His lectures like a big performance. I am so glad to take class with him. He is so knowledgeable. Tries to help students. He is very interactive. I wish take classes with Chace again.
If you want to learn and understand ECON classes take them only with Chace.Highly commended to be in his class. He takes care of his students, provides office hours if you do not understand material. His explanations are based on life examples. He does everything to make material understandable. I would say, he is the number one professor at BC.
Three exams, sapling homeworks, very clear lectures. Professor is very knowledgeable and clear. One of the best instructors at BC.
he is the best instructor in BC i was scared to take econ but i read his reviews and signed up for it. he is really good at lectures explains well and he is so helpful and funny. love him
I had a bad experience taking an intro econ class and decided I just wasn't good at it, Chace threw all of my misconceptions out of the window and I did well in his microecon class, his lectures are interesting, he's intelligent and always willing to help his students succeed. Homework is hard, tests are simple but study, expect group work
Chace is a pleasant teacher. He gives many examples to clarify things in class. He also offers many extra credit, and his lectures are very interesting. This class' textbook is mandatory if you want to do well in his class.
Chace is a great professor. His lectures are interesting and upbeat . He gives helpful examples and is very good at making concepts relatively simple. His grading system is very fair, but not too harsh. Easy hw, some group work, short analysis paper, and 3 tests of average difficulty. Probably the best prof I've taken at BC, highly recommended.
Chace is really good lecturer. But if you have any questions at all ASK HIM. He gets a little annoyed when people don't ask for help. 3 exams, homework, article analysis, and a final. He's very specific about the material and expects a lot. Tests aren't the easiest thing, but they aren't impossible. He also has class participation points.
Class is super easy and straightforward. If you pay attention to his lecture, then you can get an A in the class without studying even once outside class. Never read the textbook, only look at Google. Stiehl teaches very well but focuses more on general concepts; the class doesn't go in depth and wouldn't prepare you that well for intermediate econ
He is the best professor I have ever had! I was very uneasy about any econ class, but he made everything VERY understandable. His lectures are very relatable and he is ALWAYS there for you, his class is easy if you listen to his lectures. I would take any class with him, ANY day. Professors like this, don't come around often! Very inspiring.
Clear, concise, extremely organized, well prepared, very intelligent in his field of study, loves students to ask questions and enjoys helping them. A little slow to return quizzes (takes about a week) and essays (takes about 3 weeks). Can go quickly through material (could be good/bad - depending). Good to already know some basic econ. terms.
I absolutely loved his class. Class material isn't easy and there is a lot to read. Dr. Stiehl makes it interesting, clear, breaks things down to the basics when needed. Very organized and helpful. Likes when students engage. Bellevue College is fortunate to have him, imho.
Professor Stiehl has a lot of passion for econ and his classes are always interesting.
Honestly, one of the best professors I have ever had! Amazing lectures and is really there for students. Very supportive and kind. Make sure, you put in work an actually try. He is willing to clarify anything, but self effort is also key. Sapling hw is alright. Amazing professor for Econ and the EASIET exams! You will not regret taking him!!!!!
He is professional on his subject and teach very good but he can be tough sometimes. He is not as easy as the comments here show. You should really work hard and study and pay attention in his class to get high on exams and his exam essay questions can be confusing what he asked you for so write as much as you can. tough teacher for a Econ class
Chace is an awesome lecturer. I took one of his hybrid classes and his two hour lectures go by really fast. I think the tests were pretty hard but there is A LOT of graph work and that is not my strong suit.
I never rate professors, but Chace Stiehl is absolutley incredible. I found Macroeconomics to be challenging, but he is always so willing to help students during office hours. He is very organized, and gives plenty of resources to help study for tests. Very clear grading scale. Very fortunate to have taken this class, really enjoyed it.
Chace is a magnificent instructor! He teaches clearly, explains well enough for you to understand and provides office hours. This was not an easy class, though, the final paper was particularly time-consuming. Homeworks are online, tests were okay but essay questions could sometimes be tricky. All in all he's awesome, will take his class again!
My second course with Chace. What I've noticed about him is his extreme devotion to the subject. He also highly encourages students to come into office hours with questions. If you're the type who likes to speak up in class, he encourages that as well. Expects people to be college students and actually do the reading. Can be a little too serious.
Chace was an awesome professor! If you make sure to pay attention during his lectures, do the sapling homework, and come in during office hours if you need help you will definitely do well in the class. Assessments were not bad and he prepared us well for them, and wanted students to understand and improve after the assessments.
Theres not many things that gets put in the gradebook. His lectures are informative but only brushes on what the homework is. The homework is way harder. He gives good lectures and is passionate about the class. Willing to talk and make things work to help out the class (flexible). Super nice and understanding. Gives 3 weeks to turn in hw
Prof. Stiehl likes to supplement the econ textbook with more modern book, for example "Makers and Takers" when I took. Every Friday discuss it which cuts down on lecture time Pros: Helpful, good explanations (esp. on issues w/ differing views), wants students to succeed Cons: Lecture notes are brief & he doesn't always define terms. Lots of reading
90% lecture and reading the textbook. This made the class fairly difficult, as group work and examples were rare. I wish hed be more direct about the concepts in his lectures, all the extra tangents he went on made me lose focus a little too often. Overall, a nice guy but his teaching methods were too linear and not for me.
I chose Chace because a friend of mine recommended him and I was definitely wasnt disappointed. I really enjoyed class with Chace. There was homework weekly and 2 midterms and a final exam throughout the quarter. As long as you pay attention in class and complete the homework and take good class notes you will pass the class.
He is a good teacher but his teaching method is really different, his lectures are not that interactive, he gives good examples but the class gets really monotonous, you have to read most of the stuff by yourself, cannot reply on the class. The tests are okay, the essays are fine but prep for mcqs.
I couldn't really keep up with his way of teaching. It's all lectures filled with information every single class and you don't want to miss one day since he randomizes his attendance. You don't get too much help unless you stop by his office. He's nice but his work isn't.
Dr Stiehl gives is fair, knowledgeable, lets students have opinions, respectful of life outside of class. Do the work, get the grade. Make sure to watch/pay attention to his lectures. A teacher that is there for the purpose of learning/not spiteful/no power trip. Appears to love what he teaches. Gracious is the word of choice!!
His class is really lecture heavy and it can get boring sometimes (especially if you have it as a morning block class like I did). He's really knowledgeable about the subject though and is there during office hours and after class if you need help. There's a lot of textbook reading that you have to in order to be able to do all of the online hw.
Chace definitely shows his knowledge of Econ and does his best to make sure everyone understands the subject being discussed. The class is fairly lecture heavy and Sapling is the homework site he uses weekly. Attendance is also randomized but missing a day of lecture would be missing a lot of information anyway. Be ready to work hard for the grade.
I didg it
I was having a lot of difficulty in this class, but Chace was very patient with me. He is clearly passionate about economics. Sometimes that passion came off as a little intense, but for me, he was the perfect balance of passion for the subject and compassion for the students. The best teacher Ive had so far.
Chace is an amazing professor who deserves all the respect in the world. He is extremely knowledgable and has a great method of teaching, and is very respectful to his students. He's also overall just a really likeable guy; all in all, definitely one of my favorite teachers.
I really liked Chace. It's a hard class but do the readings and pay attention in class and you can't go wrong. Chace gets really excited about teaching and you can tell, makes class more interesting. Definitely a good teacher, and always available to help in and out of class.
Chace is a great teacher. However, he makes his class so hard. 80% of his homework assignments are not related to what he teaches in class, so ready to study by yourself a lot. He doesn't really prepare for exams well. Besides, there are some easy points such as reading points. His extra credit is also hard. So good luck.
Honestly wish every instructor at Bellevue College was just like Chace. Best prof. Caring and lectures are always interesting and very informative. Send him an email, he will respond quickly. Visit him during office hours and he will be attentive. Truly cares for his students and seems like he loves his job. Should be teaching at UW or something.
I took ap econ didn't have a good experience. Chace made my 2 hr class 2x's a week fly by w/ interesting lectures. Put in the effort you get an A. Welcomes you to go to office hours and ask questions. Gives extra credit. Best prof at bc hands down take his class and you will see. Needle in a haystack. All profs takenotes. Hope uw profs are like him
Great lecturer! he has it figured out. you may question some of his policies, but they all make sense 2 midterms (lowest 1 is dropped), 1 final (30% of grade). HW on Achieve (drops 2 lowest, usually 2 chs due on sunday) EC from opt hw. random attendance days. 2 chs per wk very COVID aware and gives exceptions and ensures safety
great prof for first in-person class in two years :) really caring and flexible as long as you communicate with him. reasonable amount of hw and lots of extra credit!
Definitely a solid choice for Econ201! Professor Stiehl really gives tons of effort in explaining every single terms. You would not like to miss any of the lecutures as you will miss a lot of details. You can still check out the mini video lectures on canvas. Mainly chapter online assignments; 3 exams (2 midterms+1 final); attendence for gradings
One of the best prof I have had at BC so far. Always willing to help. Take his class if you can.
Professor Stiehl is amazing, grades most things on time, and is there for his students. if you are looking for a great economics instructor Chace is your guy!
Professor Stiehl offers good lectures, cares a lot about his students, answered questions, gave many examples, was available to meet after or outside of class hours to help me out, and grades most things on time. As long as you show up (attendance is graded) and pay attention, you should do well in his class!
Had him for Microeconomics and am currently taking him for Macro. I consider him to be one of the best professors I have had thus far.
He is the best. Very understanding and explains concepts as many times as necessary. He made me not hate taking an economy class.
Great professor, provides great analogies, and breaks down the concepts very well. Funny and easy to talk to. The only reason you shouldn't be able to pass this class, heck even get an A is due to your lack of effort. Dr.Stielh really does his best and is accessible outside of class.
Chace is the best econ prof in BC!!! His classes are fun, you can actually learn and enjoy it. Super nice and friendly guy, would say dad jokes sometimes lol, would definitely take his classes again:)
Dr. Stiehl is a fantastic teacher who genuinely cares about the subject he teaches and cares deeply about teaching it in a very accessible way. I would 100% take another course taught my Dr. Stiehl.
While we are assigned to read the textbook and complete its activities, Dr. Stiehl provides amazing lectures and explains each topic in depth. He is always willing to answer questions and treats all his students fairly. But make sure you don't procrastinate with the workload; you won't be able to finish it last minute.
Chace Steihl is a nice and funny guy who is always down to help his students. Is lectures a pretty long and boring but he likes to break it up with group work. Attendance is mandatory and you have to do read 2 chapters a week as well as complete quizzes/problem sets. Average tests. Discussion posts once a week that have you complete a task.
Prof Stiehl is genuinely a great guy. He encourages students to come to office hours and reach out to him and he cares about everyone. With that said, his lectures are pretty boring and his tests are hard. His classes consist of two reading chapters problem sets every week as well as a lengthy asych discussion. Attendance is mandatory
Chace is a great professor. He is very passionate about economics and this is reflected in his teaching. He likes to engage the students during the lecture and is very reachable outside of class. Overall a great professor and great class experience!
Professor Stiehl is one of the most passionate and caring teachers I have ever met as he has been teaching for years. I struggled a lot in the beginning of the quarter and I was able to reach out to him through his office hours. He was very caring, flexible and patient while ensuring I got all the required work still done.
I will be honest. I chose this professor after seeing the reviews on ratemyprofessor but the teacher was horrible. He doesn't even care whether the students do his work or not. He doesn't bother to explain the rules or what homeworks were even posted. He is very strict and taught so fast. Save yourself and dont choose this professor if you want "A"
Professor Stiehl is great. He knows a lot about economics and teaches it very effectively. The lectures are important but they're easy to follow and he makes sure that students understand the material. He's a nice guy, he cares about his students and is willing to help outside of class. If you put in the effort, you can do well in his class.
Chace is a nice guy and a good teacher. HW was great in this class and easy to understand he is very easy to reach to ask for help. The exams consist of around 12 mcq's&2 essay questions relating to the chapters. Last test is cumulative. There are weekly discussions,&he grades attendance&there is in class groupwork. He gets off track pretty easily.
Good teacher- super nice at first but got a little rude at the end. HW was great- pretty easy online HW with infinite attempts (but -10% per question each attempt wrong). Lots of EC opportunities. Group work here and there- wasn't too bad and was only during class. 3 exams (hard). Ask questions if you're confused he is very helpful!
Horrible,!!!!!!!!! You have 3 midterms, 1 discussion post every week, 2 homework quizzes (20-25 hard questions) each week (all are hard) which is 60%. He's super strict! final is 40% of grade its hard. If you have done micro before then u can score good but if you are new, you fill fail! I somehow managed to pass with tutions. Save yourself please!
very good teacher, but a hard class. 3 mid terms, but he lets you drop one. discussion posts every week, and homework every week. he lectures every class but he is a very good teacher and is good about office hours and he wants you to do well in his class.
Chace Stiehl is the GOAT. He is HIM. Greatest professor of all time. Just make sure you participate in his lectures and you'll get an A, and of course read the textbook and make sure you're comfortable with the homework questions. Most straightforward class I ever took.
Best professor I've taken at Bellevue college so far. Professor Stiehl has multiple teaching styles, provides hands-on classwork, he encouraged us to speak up and not overthink, he is passionate about his profession, he explains things in an understandable way, and he has an exciting personality and attitude.
Chace was an amazing professor and made economics very interesting. Lectures were long, but entertaining and vital to do well in his class. A decent amount of homework, but doing the homework made the tests much easier. As long as you take notes during the lectures, study before the exams, and do the homework, this is a great course.
He's a good teacher, but very fast paced and assigns a good amount of homework. It's not impossible to do well in his class, but you will have to put in a lot of effort. But he is a good teacher overall, and he does explain things very well.
He is one of the best professors I've had at Bellevue College. His lectures are engaging, he's always available during office hours, happy to answer any questions, and overall just a kind and supportive instructor. He treats students with integrity and respect. Not to mention that if you enjoy math and/or logic, this class is an absolute blast.
Around 2 or 3 homework and chapter reviews and a discussion post a week is basically all the homework in this class. Both the midterm and the final are completely online which makes them very accessible. The professor also gives you a lot of time to do them. He opens them days before a due date which allows for great flexibility.
Assignments were simple, a grq and journal assigment due every week. As long as u put effort into those assignments you'll get full points. But the class is pretty heavy on lecture. As long as u lock in during lecture, and have a good understanding of each chapter that you read, you'll be good for midterm and final.
