Its hard to want to see people succeed when you are so impressed with yourself. I have never had an instructor with a masters degree call himself professor. This class was useless. He offered very little help and was condescending when it was given. He didnt teach us anything. I'm glad I'm not relying on this class to help me in my career.
I thought him a narcissist (I have the experience to judge) condescending, and he was on a power trip (don't challenge him - you wont get a good response and you won't win - even when his logic is clearly wrong.)I even had a letter ready to go to the dean, but didn't send it in the end. I could go on but there is no more room here to write
Lots of material, most of it he never tests on, making life very hard. It will be useful though. Had a 4.0 until his class. Very difficult with grading, making the course much less enjoyable.
If you do what your supposed to do, listen to the lectures, do all your assignments and projects, you can succeed in this class. I thought him to be extremely helpful with any questions I had and I had lots.(I took both classes online). I had very positive experiences in both his classes and I feel that I have learned so much. Great professor.
Gives a lot of reading and tests only on his lectures which consist of him reading ppts (total waste of time). Purchase of text was waste of money ($100+) Hard grader. Has an arrogance about him. Answers q's timely if he feels an answer is due. His clarity is almost condesending. Material is interesting, not him.
Everyones comments pretty much sum him up. He can be helpful but ignored, or overlooked a few of my questions. Difficult to study for exams. He holds exam reviews where you can ask any questions, thank goodness. I took this class online.
This class is hard, but it's material that you'll always need to know. If you study the lectures and listen to his review sessions, you'll be golden. I'm glad this class was so hard because it forced me to really know material that came up in other classes!
Don't know where his high Clarity rankings come from. Very cluttered presentation -- lots of redundancies, not a great "big picture" view of the material. But if you take of things on time, he can be flexible and work with your needs.
I don't know why anyone is complaining. If you're taking this course, you're on track to apply to graduate school. If you can't handle this class, then how are you supposed to do well in grad school?? If you pay attention in this class you will learn so much from it. I am SO WELL PREPARED for graduate school because of him!!!
Bad Course Layout. Study guides were vague and borderline ridiculous and consist of chapters that were never even assigned during the unit. For example "Glossary of your test book" was on the study guide for the 1st exam. This has been an unnecessarily frustrating course. Content is awesome, there is no reason for the format to be so poor.
HARD course. Bingham was rude when responding to his emails. His lectures are fine - his speaking voice is rather pleasant - but you won't know what hits you until you took his exams. He requires you to remember e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g! Test questions draw heavily on recall memory (and not so much multiple choice) from both lecture and textbook.
This class is almost identical to 3120, which I took concurrently. I am not sure why I had to pay for both when he clearly didn't write 2 curricula. He's lazy! Lectures were reused for both classes. Content is unclear and redundant. For example, multiple terms are given for something with the exact same definition, which is really confusing.
This is a pretty difficult class. The quality of the study guides depend on the TA - some of them were just a list of each topic we covered class. Important to know the material and how to apply it. Tests are mostly short answer and fill in the blank. If you stay on top of the work and participate in class he is very helpful, if not, he won't be.
I think Professor Bingham's heart is in the right place, but honestly, the amount of information he requires you to not only learn but maintain is very frustrating. He is big on detail. On your tests, don't expect to be able to pick something out of a group, you'll need to know exact wording. Lectures are SO. LONG. WITH SO MUCH INFO.
Professor Bingham's classes are not easy, but they REALLY help you prepare for grad school I learned so much in his classes. I am surprised at the people who complain about his tests. This is a college course in preparation for a masters program. Work hard and study hard. I earned a 96% and a 98% with a full load while working full time.
Course material is not very difficult, it's just a lot of memorization. I feel I could have done fine without any input or help from Professor Bingham. The lectures are just him reading simple powerpoints. In other COMD courses I felt professors have been helpful, but in this one I felt that Prof. Bingham neither helped nor challenged us.
Honestly Chad Bingham is a joke. He provides no support for his class. All email responses were sent back with a condescending answer suggesting I "Look hard at the online material and my textbook before wasting my time." Really? This is an upper division course and the only course he teaches on campus. Do yourself a favor and take the class online
So far, his classes have been the most challenging in the USU COMD dept. I put it down to the format of his tests. Everybody else does multiple choice-too easy for a college level major course IMO, so I'm glad he's keeping me on my toes. He's also the most interactiveavailable professor I've come across in the program. Overall, I like him.
I took this class online. He was clear on the assignments, but he lets the group leader of the project have irrefutable authority on the grades within the group. Just warning you. His tests are mult choice, essay, and short answer. You will need to know info in depth. Study guides are not very helpful. He does offer 1 hr to do a Q&A before tests.
I took this class online. He was clear on the assignments. The group paper is graded HARSHLY. Just warning you. I wrote this with an English Grad and we still did bad. His tests are mult choice, essay, and short answer. You will need to know info in depth. Study guides are not very helpful. He does offer 1 hr to do a Q&A before tests.
This is one class that you need to pay attention to detail. From the syllabus to the lectures. Exams are not difficult but there are so many things to memorize from the lectures. Exam questions include multiple choice, T/F and short answers (mainly short answers). So either you know the answer or you don't. You have to study hard for this class.
Don't buy the textbooks. I bought one and have not used it once. All of his test material comes from the slides, which are posted on canvas. Chad's lectures are vague and cover a lot, but his tests get down to the nitty gritty specifics. Study the slides!!!
Really disappointing. Don't bother buying the book-Full of great material but you aren't going to use them. PP slides are extensive and be prepared to study them. The study guide is basically useless - huge topic list and he may or may not narrow it down. The one thing that is good about these classes is the lab projects. Bingham is not helpful.
Prof. Bingham's class is a tough one. He expects you to know all the material in depth for his exams. He shouldn't even bother with the study guides because they consist of only a vague list of topics. He does provide a 1 hr. Q&A before exams. Overall he does a great job preparing students for grad school and makes you work. Excellent professor.
Professor Bingham really and truly cares about each and every student.
Professor Bingham flat out states that most of his student's only get Cs. What frustrated me the most was he would always encourage students to turn papers in early, but would often offer clarifications about exactly what format he wanted only 1-2 days before the due date. If you'd already turned your paper in, oh well. You'll be docked points.
You will memorize a ton of info. His lecs are ECLECTIC in info. There r only 3 exams covering A LOT of topics, need to know details. There shud be more exams with less content. He is a harsh grader and super nit picky. I was more often frustrated tho I earned an A. Group project directions are vague, tho he grades harsh. My least fav class by far.
Ridiculously long and hard final. Be prepared to write a lot and know specific information. Final was based on group presentations (2 presentations per 9 topics, NOT IDEAL AT ALL!!) in addition to the standard 4 lectures (9-10 video lectures). For a class with easy content, he makes this class difficult by having to memorize SO MUCH INFO!
3 assignments only. This means they weigh heavy on your grade. The lectures are numerous and lengthy followed by the most ridiculous amounts of information to memorize. Chad is vague if you don't ask just the right question in just the right way- don't expect an answer or clarification. Hard grader. Frustrating class. Awful teacher.
The entire course (lectures mostly) was crammed into 3 exams that make up more than 60% of your final grade. The topics are incredibly vague as what MIGHT be on the exam. He provides very little clarification on what will be covered on papers or exams. This was the hardest class b/c of such a lack of clarification or proper instruction.
Chad has a lot of experience in speech pathology and the stories he tells are entertaining and helpful. The assignments he gives are helpful for a future as an SLP. However, he acts like he wants his students to bad. He states that most his students get Cs. He is a really tough grader and it is impossible to write a research paper to his liking.
Professor Bingham is a great professor who clearly is an expert in his field. His lectures are a little all-over-the-place, and his tests are tough. However, if you ask for help and study hard, you'll do fine. He can be a tough grader, but he really cares about his students and makes efforts to help when he can.
I have a 4.0 and this almost destroyed that! It was extremely difficult and based heavily on lectures. There is so much material and it's a gamble what may be on the test. The tests are also listing questions, short answer, essay and multiple choice. It's intense. I felt like the professor didn't care.F
Yes, the class was hard. Yes, you will have to work for your grade. But honestly, if you can't pass this class, you're not prepared for grad school. He is a hard grader, but fair. If you study and watch the lectures several times, you'll be prepared for exams.
Both classes (3120 & 4450) I took from Prof. Bingham were more difficult than any of the other classes I have had in the program thus far. Its difficult to know what to study for, and the tests are quite difficult. However, I learned a lot from these classes and he was very helpful. 3120 & 4450 are very similar-I recommend taking them together
Takes time and effort but very doable. 4 exams now. I did the readings but studied lecture notes many times to do well on exams. Also went through the study guides, anwering all the q's. The last 2 exams are based off group projects; be sure to do the readings, take your own notes to study f/. Don't rely solely on others' work to prepare for exams.
He bases all of his grading on 3 assignments, 2 exams, and a group research paper. I have also been an A student, but he has made everything so difficult to do well. His exams are open ended, essay, fill in the blank and a few multiple choice. He only allows 90 minutes for his exams and he does not seem to care about his students.
You can watch the lectures, take notes, read the material and repeat over and over again but no matter how prepared you may feel its never enough because his test are so difficult! His study guides and live chats are pointless. He basically just says "It might be on the test, it might not be on the test" Thanks for the vagueness.
Boring, long lectures. Test are EXTREMELY hard. You basically have to memorize EVERYTHING b/c the study guide is useless. He is the only professor that teaches this class online so you may not even have a choice. Be prepared to put in at least 20 hours a week studying all the material.
The course material itself is quite interesting! I would have loved taking the courses had someone else taught them; this professor does not care about his students. He does respond to emails almost immediately but he is not very understanding, and even comes off a little officious.
The amount of content crammed into 4 exams takes the fun out of learning . The tests are online, he has TA's, make more tests for depth of learning, but no, let's barely touch on dozens of topics. The content is very interesting & relevant for SLP's but Chad lectures it to boredom. You can tell in his pre-recorded, 5 yr old lectures he is bored.
I don't know why everyone on here is saying Chad is such a tough grader. He was a pretty generous grader and gave helpful feedback on the research paper. DO NOT buy the book. Spent $80 on it and I never opened it. Just read the lectures and know the study guide thoroughly and you will do well on the tests.
I think I squeaked out my B with relatively little effort, except for the research paper, which I recommend writing in advance and taking to him to get advice or you'll get deducted points for subjective criteria like "creativity". My opinion of him is low, but I'm sure he thinks the same so it is what it is. Get my passing grade is what I wanted.
I took both COMD 3120 and 4450 in one semester and I'm glad I did because there were a lot of similarities between the two--but mostly, I'm just glad I got him done and over with and I never have to deal with him again. Terrible professor who makes you wonder if he really cares whether you learn anything versus just wanting to make you quit.
I am surprised how low Prof. Bingham has been rated. He is a terrific Professor. He does make you work for it, but when you are paying as much as you are for classes you'd better learn a great deal! He is one of the ONLY professors that allow you to call his office and speak to him directly. He even has a live video chat before exams.
I absolutely love Professor Bingham. I took 2 of his classes and even though he is a tough grader he is an amazing teacher. If you just study the notes and watch his lectures you shouldn't have a problem passing the class.
I have taken several courses from Prof. Bingham. The lectures are in depth, a lot to learn for each exam. You could get by without the book, I have only used it for clarification a few times. The TA's do offer a review prior to each exam, but for me they were not very helpful. Really just going over the review questions, but no answers.
his classes are incredibly lecture heavy. The study guides for both of his classes helped and both the classes have similarities in their lectures. You don't need the book, just listen to the lectures and look at the powerpoints.
Worst professor in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does not care about his students and is a horrible person in general.
Tests are challenging, use the study guide and ask any questions you have during the live review. I really feel like he wants students to succeed, but definitely expects you to learn the material. He is available during office hours and will go over missed test questions, if you take him up on this you may even have the chance to correct an answer.
The worst professor I've had in a while. He puts in so little effort and will ding you for any little thing on his essays. The tests are poorly worded and the study guides aren't very helpful. Too bad there's no way not to take him. He must be tenured or there's no way he'd still be there.
Im surprised by some other comments I see. He was great. If you ask him questions about a paper or whats going to be on the tests hell tell you. Use the discussion boards. Go to the zoom study calls he does. Put in some work and youll do well. If you dont its on you, not him.
Worst professor ever. He doesnt even use person first language. His exams are impossible and he dings you for every little mistake in your papers. His grading of papers is ridiculous and inaccurate. Uses too much opinion in lectures when all I need are facts. Stay away if you can.
I dont understand why many students have given him bad reviews on this. Hes a fair grader and if you put in the work you will do well in the class. Do the study guides and view his zoom review sessions for his tests. The amount of work and his tests are fair, and will definitely prepare you for grad school.
He made the class needlessly difficult. You can listen to all the lectures and go to all the reviews and still get stumped on the tests. Rote memorization questions instead of multiple choice. Cant bother to update his study guides. Smug, patronizing answers to student questions. This class destroyed my GPA and ruined the program for me.
I'm a good student, 3.7 GPA. This is the first class I have ever taken a "W" on. To his credit Professor, Bingham was understanding when I told him I was withdrawing. The study guides he provides are super vague, even if you attend his study sessions. You may as well try to study the whole book. You're graded heavily on the tests and one paper.
No A's. This professor grades very strictly, covers too much material for the tests and is very vague with expectations for tests. Study guides are so broad. Says contradicting things like "what's on the study guide may or may not be on the test, and there might be more on the test than what's on the study guide" What's the point!? Give guidance.
I'm currently still taking the class and the instructions for the class are unclear with very few assignments, which means they are heavy for the overall grade. Professor doesn't provide a study guide, so it makes the class that much more difficult to pass.
The trick with Professor Bingham is go in knowing you'll need to do the work. He always puts out a study guide written off of the material on the test, so use the study guide and go to the review lecture and you'll do great. His approach is meant to help you retain knowledge not slide by. If you ask questions he absolutely answers them.
There are very few assignments so you have to do well or you can easily get a bad grade. He has several modules on his exams with very few questions so his study guide is pretty much to go over everything in the modules then you may have 1 simple question out of everything ou studied. I went over the lectures vs book. Responds to emails quickly.
This class is very test heavy. Barely any assignments to help hold up your grade. Tests are so hard, you have to study excessive amounts of material & modules for each given test. His study guides are completely useless. Chad is a very tough grader. When we had to do a group project, his critiques of everyone's projects were so negative and harsh.
Prof Chad gets understandable flack since the class is based on 7 assignments. I loved it as I was taking 15 credits. If you are able to describe and answer the study guide questions, you will succeed in exams. He is also willing to explain your grade and gives good feedback. I learned so much from this course and felt that it was very low stress.
I'm on my second degree and have taken plenty of difficult classes...the material isn't hard, it's labor intensive. Not worth the hard work either.. don't expect to learn much about childhood language disorders. You'll learn about things that are sort of related and memorize specific diagnostic tests that you may or may not use in real life.
Don't let the other reviews scare you! I was surprised by how straightforward this course was. I learned many practical, clinical things. The professor hosts a review session before every test. Show up to review sessions and ask questions about the items on the study guide. It was an easy A+, but I studied and showed up for every review session.
Mr. Bingham is a great professor! He is willing to help you when you need help. All you have to is contact him. He is quick to respond and will set up a meeting time. He does a review session for each test and records it. He looks to see if you really understand the notes.
I liked Chad. Go to or watch the review sessions; a lot of the time, he will make subtle hints as to what exactly the essay questions will be. He comes across harsh, but I believe he truly just wants us to actually learn the material. There is a group project, and I felt he graded fairly. Put in the effort and you'll do fine. Don't buy the book.
This class has 3 tests and 1 paper, so there is much room for error. Chad is a tough grader, his TA's are great but he doesn't give you an inch with anything. His feedback is abysmal at best, it is usually very passive aggressive. I could write more about how awful his teaching style is, but I have a limit here so I will just say good luck!
Don't bother with the textbook. Communicate with him!!! It's what he wants. Grading is subjective on a lot of criteria so he will definitely give you better grades if you show an effort, be professional & kind, and ask a lot of questions (group discussion, emails, scheduled zoom appts to go over exam scores and paper, & ATTEND THE LIVE CHATS.
I strongly disliked this course. The professor made it nearly impossible to pass. This class consists of a couple written assignments that are not explained at all, three exams, and weekly lectures. I dreaded completing the assignments, the exams were difficult, and the study guides were useless. Good luck if it is required...
I thought Mr. Bingham was an excellent teacher! For me what proved most important was attending his zoom meetings, he is very open to answering any questions, gives a lot of great info and goes over the study guide. It was clear to me that he cares about his students and has a passion for what he is teaching.
Professor Bingham is great. I am still in his class but so far it has been an awesome experience. You definitely need to do your best work and put lots of effort into assignments and tests, but if you use his study guides and zoom calls to prepare for tests, you will receive an awesome grade. Highly recommend!
He is a very harsh grader and very passive aggressive with feedback. There were only a couple written assignments that did not have clear criteria whatsoever, which made my grade dependent on the tests. I was frustrated because here I am taking 15 credits with a toddler while working full-time, and he can't show compassion or personable skills.
I loved Professor Bingham! Attend any review or watch the recordings - he gives many of the answers away. I always scheduled office hours with him after tests and a few times earned points back by justifying answers. He is a hard grader, but he will walk you through it whenever you need help. Survive this class by meeting with him frequently!
I don't like Chad on a personal level. He has said some inappropriate sexist and political comments in class that did not contribute to a learning environment. Despite that, I don't think he is trying to be a bad guy or make his class impossible. He will give you extra help and resources when you ask, (ask!!!) and does want his students to succeed.
Chad's class is fine.I didn't find it the most interesting class, and he made some questionable comments a few times in class but other than that it was a fine class. Study guides for tests are very straightforward and he hints and the test questions frequently. He doesn't hold office hours, but is more than happy to meet with you outside of class.
Don't let this class intimidate you! Chad is very accessible outside of lectures. If you are having trouble with assignments, meet with him. He will help you. He expects you to work for your grade, but his tests were very straightforward. He had some out-of-pocket comments during his lectures, but I found the content interesting overall.
Moved exam due dates up twice for the in-person class but did not change them for the online class. Made inappropriate political and sexist comments in class. Harsh grading on the research paper. Overall, he is willing to work with you if you ask. Study guides are straightforward, and it is easy to do well on the exams if you study. Work hard!!!
He made several inappropriate comments particularly sexist and unrelated political comments. The assignments were hard; grading criteria can be vague with no feedback. His tests are straightforward and do stick to the study guide. Definitely possible to get a good grade in his class, but the material would be more enjoyable with someone else.
It makes me sad to think of the money I spent taking this class. Assignment instructions are incredibly vague- near non-existent. His feedback on assignments is incredibly harsh and kind of rude. There seems to be an expectation that you arrive with a good amount of prior knowledge in the field which is weird considering we're literally students.
There are only a few assignments, so any mistakes hit heavy. He gives feedback, but it's not constructive or specific. He's also passive aggressive in comments on assignments, but he's not nearly that harsh over zoom/in one on one meetings. He's understanding for the most part, but you'll rarely make a 100% on an assignment.
The class has lots of reading and his teaching style is nearly non-existent. There was very little practice working on the concepts to help commit them to memory yet the exams require a lot of understanding. He doesn't seem to understand that majority of students are learning this for the first time.
He expects a lot of time spent on his class. It honestly felt like more work and studying the material than all my other classes put together, fill out the study guides based on the lectures. ATTEND HIS LIVE CHAT, he is responsive outside of class. This class was harder than it should have been.
I actually like Professor Bingham. His class is very hard because it relies on the student to do the heavy lifting. You have to know how you learn best and figure out how to remember the info for his class in your own way. He tests your grit and that is very annoying, but he knows his stuff and is willing to explain concepts if you ask.
It's odd the school has not addressed his behavior given his reviews. The class feels like a power trip and he does not seem to enjoy teaching, students or anyone with any kind of opinion. He is so aggressive you struggle to learn, he prides himself on how hard it is to pass his class. Gives off creepy incel vibes. In person he must be terrifying.
His lectures were interesting and he seemed to want to deliver useful, practical information. It's critical that you attend his Zoom review sessions; ask many questions! He seems to appreciate effort and professionalism. Live by the exam study guides! Start on the research paper early and use the grading rubric. Some were put off by his directness.
Chad is pretty nice, so I don't know what's up with these reviews. The class required effort, but no more than any other classes I took this semester. There is a written portion on tests, so you do need to prepare, but he tells you what to study. Work hard on the paper because it'll be graded thoroughly. I got a 98% in this class, so you got this!!
Chad is AMAZING, don't be scared by his reviews. His class takes work and is hard, but that's no different than any other class. He gives you so many materials to prepare for the tests, use those materials and you will ace the class. The essay questions on the test are easy if you know the info. This class was so fun and honestly my favorite!
These reviews had me scared to take Chad's class. I was literally DREADING it. I don't know what is wrong with those people but Chad is an AMAZING teacher. His class ended up being my favorite. He gives great feedback and his zoom meetings are so helpful. He was the most engaging professor I had this semester. He really knows his stuff!
This class was way harder than it needed to be. Chad treats the class like a power trip. To get a good grade you have to ask a ton of questions on the zoom reviews (he gives out a good amount of info but only if you ask the right questions) and be ready to meet with him on zoom after tests to defend your essay answers to get points back.
Best COMD professor at USU. I was nervous due to the reviews here but he is the only one of my USU professors who made himself available, did zooms at students request to ensure we were well prepared for exams and projects and was invested in his students success. He should be teaching these other teachers how to teach!
I honestly think of a lot of these bad reviews are just people who are upset that Prof Bingham doesn't accept any late work. Guys just turn in your work on time. Chad is a skilled lecturer. He is knowledgeable and up to date. He is VERY accepting of feedback about the class and I have TONS of emails to prove it.
