Really not a bad guy, just incredibly boring. His class isn't much except talk about what we read. I've never heard him say, "You're absolutely right!" to anyone. He just says his opinions, and yours aren't anything. His paper topics suck, thoug
very easy to pass if you do all of the readings, and he will keep a regular reading schedule. He will pop quiz on the readings. I agree w/ a previous stmt that he does not make you feel confident when answering classroom questions, but he is fair & easy
Great guy. Class is not hard at all if you are somewhat prepared for class. Grades fairly.
Good guy, paper topics are a little hard but i managed an A...but going to him to edit ur papers is a must!! He's a nice guy just real boring sometimes..
His class was pretty straight forward and his paper topics made u think. Plus he gave us plenty of time to due papers and was just a cool guy who kept it real. U can make an A in tha class if u just go to tha Writing Center B4 u turn n ur paper.
Awsome professor!! I loves his class. Because of his class i like English now. He made everything very clear and graded fairly. Always up for discussion and willing to help! Great Guy in general!
i felt like i was reverted back to kindergarten! his "lectures" are so drawn out! class time is a waste. paper topics suck! pop quiz every blue moon. grades pretty fairly. Easy B, just a little more effort for an A. he is a nice guy though, soft-spoken.
He's really soft-spoken, but always willing to help and very nice about it. I'm thinking this class is pretty easy...even though it's the usual english crap, but I think he's pretty interesting, maybe it's the students though since he likes a lot of class participation...he's a good guy though.
Overall good class, he is a very nice guy and will help you with any question you have. hard topics that made you think. only like 2 pop qfuizzes and A LOT of group work about the stories you read...but that part is extremely easy! gave us 2 weeks no class to do our research paper! managed an A
Come to class everyday and he will like you. His essay questions are difficult but he grades easy.
Probably the second best professor i've ever had.
Hammett is probably one of the biggest slackers I know. I had him for US 1100 and that class was a complete joke. He wouldnt teach, do bare minimal, and just worried about his personal life. Some liked him due to his 30 min classes, but to me it was a waste. I dont get it though, because it looks like many loved him in his english classes..
Most fun teacher I have taken at TSU. You do kinda have to read because of the quizzes, but he does go over the material. Test are pretty easy!
Mad, bad and dangerous
He was a very easy teacher, grades fairly. If you do the reading, and attend classes, you will get a good grade!
Overall pretty easy, before the tests tells you exactly what to study and the break down of the tests. Grades fairly easily. Attendance not mandatory but he has random one-minute responses that you will not get points for if you aren't there. but these only count for a few points each so won't hurt your grade much if you miss a few.
He is AWESOME. he actually makes class interesting.
He tends to ramble off topic, and talked with a semi monotone voice.
Great teacher, a LOT of reading but he breaks down the reading every class so even if you didn't actually read but attend class you will know enough to pass the tests. Grades easy!
Take Hammett as a seminar teacher you wont regret it! didnt do anything didnt even have to buy the book, attendance manditory but he was a really laid back guy good experience got alot from it
Could be a good teacher but he goes off on different stories that are irrelevant to the readings. Gives too much reading to do in one night. You have to read 2 whole books so start reading early in the semester. He gives a review before each test but it is not all that helpful.
Great teacher! you have to read and he gives you lots of time to write your papers. He gave us 3 weeks to work on our research paper and we didnt have to go to class those 3 weeks. TAKE HIM
I took him for Eng1320&2320 BritLit. There is a lot of reading to do for 2320 & and a research paper. His test reviews arent to helpful but if you go 2 class everyday and read you will get a passing grade not difficult at all.1320 very easy class n you have a reseach paper at the end of the semester w/ plenty time to do it I Got an A on all papers.
Mr. Hammet's class is not hard at all, if you go to class he goes over everything you need to know for his tests, I really liked him and he was very nice, his bald spot always made me laugh when I got bored... his tests are essay, mc, free response, and some matching; I found the readings pretty interesting
Excellent teacher. Open-minded, takes genuine interest in you and the class. I'm not a big fan of papers, but for some reason I always left his 8am feeling inspired to get started on assignments. The reading selections he makes are interesting, and though attendance is not mandatory, there are daily quizzes. This class made me a better writer.
There is a ton of reading and I found his tests pretty hard. Even though he does not take attendance daily you need to go to class. He says stuff in class that will be on the tests that you would not know even if you do the readings and study. He also gives 10 random in class one-minute responses over the readings that you basically get a 100 for if you are in class and they are worth 20% of your final grade so they can make or break you. MOST ADVISE I CAN GIVE IS GO TO CLASS!!!!!
Lots of reading in this class, but the material wasn't very hard and was actually interesting. The tests aren't very hard if you just take notes and come to class you should be fine.
Read and go to class and the you'll make it through the class prob. with an A or B if you do the papers and follow along. He is trying to get you interested into Brit lit. and somehow actually does!
Professor Dreamy! Hammett's lectures are clear and interesting. The reading he assigns is actually relevant and fun. You'll pick up a lot more references after this class. The tests and essays are straightforward and as long as you read and come to class it should be an easy A! One of my favorite professors, I definitely recommend him =)
prof hammett is a great teacher! there are reading assignments for every class but they usually arent that long. he always goes over the readings in class which is very helpful. his tests arent very hard. if you go to class and pay attention you will do fine. take him!
Great Teacher!!!! If you go to class and pay attention you'll get a good grade. Has quizzes and fourms that help to improve your grade and a essay that isnt hard and only counts for 10% of your grade. Im going to sign up for any other classes i have to take with him!!!!
Nice guy, sort of. You can tell he likes the sound of his own voice. Still in his class but I've had worse profs. Not super interesting but tries to crack jokes. Not memorable for being amazing or horrible.
Not a hard class at all. The reading is easy and his tests are a breeze provided that you study at least a little bit. It's obvious that it bothers him that people are taking this course because it's required, and he tends to act a like a bit of a jerk because of it. Still though, he's not a bad guy and easy to talk to. Take his class.
If you need to get your literature requirement out of the way, take Professor Hammett. He's a nice enough guy and he has very fair tests. Attendance is not mandatory, but is highly advised. His tests are often more about his lectures than the reading, and he has random "one minute responses" that he gives. Good professor, I highly reccommend him.
I really liked this class. I highly recommend it. It was easy enough but not a mickey. Hammett is really friendly and funny ( & charmingly dreamy). If you go to class, pay attention and do the readings before the test then you'll get an A.
I loved this class. It is easy without being pointless and it is very fair. Show up to class, do the readings and it is a very easy A.
This class is SO easy. Attendance isn't mandatory but he does "one minute responses" randomly in class that you can't make up. Really not a lot of reading considering it's a lit class. Tests are WAY easy as long as you just did the reading. Seriously, half the questions are just about the basic plot. It's pretty much impossible to not get an A.
Hammett was really annoying. He hands back your papers and leaves illegible "comments" on them, but his handwriting looks like arabic and is impossible to read. Unless you go to office hours, you'll never know what the comments said on your paper. Highly frustrating. He is very unclear and uses too many confusing analogies. The class is easy though
Although I am not an English major, this class was both easy and fair. The main thing is to keep up with the readings. Attendance is not mandatory, but the "one minute" responses are random and can't be made up; these are ones that'll help your grade. Would recommend this professor!
Okay, hes not HOT, but hes not too bad, pretty funny too. Attendance is not mandatory per the teacher, but if you want an A or even a B, you have to attend b/c of his surprise 1-Min Responses that you cannot make up. I photocopied the book readings and never actually bought the book. (You wont need any other material from it)I would recommend!
This was a great class! Professor Hammet used examples relevant to our everyday lives and always wanted to hear the students opinions. Attend class because the one-minute responses are a must for your grade. Amazing experience in this class! :)
Clear speaker. Great presence.
Awesome class. He made Brit Lit interesting. Tests are easy as long as you read the selections that he asks. Don't think you can just listen in class and pass unless you are a memory worker. Highly recommend.
I had him for the second sections of Brit LIt. He was very nice and definitely interested in what he taught, however he spend A LOT of time talking about why he was teaching us stuff instead of actually teaching us. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but he gives one-minute responses randomly so you might as well show up cause you can't make them up.
I had Hammett for British Literature which i was not looking forward to at all, but he made it one of my all time favorite classes!! He related the stories we read to a historical and psychological point of view of what was actually happening in the world at the time the story was written. A great prof! Go to class & read the book and itsal easy A.
I have no interest at all in this subject, but Mr Hammett is great! If you read all that you're supposed to then it's super easy, since the tests are simply over what you have read. He doesn't take attendance but you need to show up to class since he does 1 min responses that count a lot in your grade. Definitely take him for Lit
I already had an interest in Brit Lit, but Hammet just made it that much more interesting. Best English teacher I've ever had. Go to class (he checks sometimes), highlight what he reads in your book, take notes. If you do that, the class is EASY. Definitely recommend.
Hammett is an easy, easygoing professor. His class was enjoyable (but the surprise attendance quizzes were a pain) and I thought he was very funny and helpful.
TAKE HIM!! he was so easy, helpful and you actually learn things that will be beneficial to you once you graduate. Its a bit of work, but he gives you plenty of class time to finish them in class. He is very friendly and is always willing to help. As long as you follow his rubrics (which he tells you exactly what he is looking for) you'll do great!
Hammett was an awesome professor. He made the class very interesting and the overall work was easy. Not a blowoff class by any means, but put a little time into it, and you'll easily make an A! I had him for Summer I which I advise, because 15 weeks would be too much for the small amount of work that was required.
He is great! Go to class and listen and you will do good! He has easy "quizes" to make sure you are there they are an automatic 100! the readings are actually interesting and he explains them so good in class so even though you dont understand some your fine and tests ar easy if you pay attention in class!
Took class online so there was not a lot of interaction but his comments were helpful and I enjoyed the material. I would definitely take a class from him again!
I was dreading this class from the get go, But Hammett made it so interesting and relates it to your personal life. He covers the reads in class, so you can understand it, if you didnt before. AWESOME PROFESSOR!!
I got into this class because American Lit was closed but that was the best thing that could have happened. Take him! He really tells you what you need to know for the test and the readings are so interesting and not long at all. As long as you read and listen in class easy A.
Nice guy. No text book, just gives you a free list of material online, plus a few novels to buy. Very well-rounded when it comes to lecture. Tests are short-answer/essay with reasonable grading so just make sure you read everything. Attendance is taken every few days, so some missed classes may go unpunished. Got a B without any trouble.
He is very knowledgeable, engaging, and enthusiastic. You need to read and go to class every day, but as long as you pay attention you should do fine on his quizes and exams. The writing assignment was an easy grade as well. He'll make you like literature if you didn't before.
Didn't read at all, didn't study, made an A. Not necessarily because the class was extremely easy, but because he's a great teacher and made it easy to remember what he said in class. I just attended every class and took notes!
super nice guy and really interested in what he is teaching. Read the stories because he picks very good things to read and it makes the test almost too easy. Overall very interesting and an easy A class!
This class is super easy as long as you try to keep up with your projects that you are able to work on during class time. Hammet is super sweet and will help you with anything you need, love him and his class!
This is a great professor. He really tries to be interesting but the books we had to read bore the heck outta me. I just used sparknotes for nearly every reading assignment and still landed myself an A. Everyon likes to skip this class all the time but you really shouldn't especially if you arent going to read like me.
This professor had me from the first lecture. He was incredibly informative and I've loved Byron ever since. Also, his intelligence can be so very attractive. Chad Hammett knows. Highly recommend.
Chad Hammett is an awesome professor! Has a good personality, helpful when needed, and a pretty easy going guy. Tests are not difficult, you just need to read the books and annotate the poems and you're golden. Not to mention he's pretty attractive.
Easy class, lecture is boring, but test are not that hard. He and his t.a's grade easy. You can make a B and not really listen to him speak.
Prof Hammett is a good professor and he makes it clear what he expects from us. I went to class almost always b/c he does inclass assignments sometimes, but never paid attention and I'm still passing. Just read everything required and you'll be good for the test. SUPER easy class
Very kind and helpful. The class is assignment based but he gives you more than enough class time to work on them. Really enjoyed his class, it helped balance my heavy load in other classes. Easy final. Be sure to keep all of your graded assignments for your portfolio!
Prof. Hammett is AWESOME! If you go to class, do the readings, and show initiative you will definitely get an A. He gives great feedback and is very helpful if you go to his office hours. Refreshing because he cares about his students. VERY clear about test material and will never try and trick you on exams. Overall one of my best professors!
while im not a big fan of the class itself, i love Hammett. he is very clear about what he wants on things, he is very helpful if you need it, and he just seems like an awesome guy.
Awesome guy! if you want an easy A in US 1100 this is the professor you want. Got an A without putting that much effort. He gives 100 only if you submit the assignments and do what he asks you. Awesome guy, very chill. TAKE HIM
Large Lecture Hall; attendance matters for points sake; easy grader; relied on spark notes & class discussion and got an A.
You can tell prof. Hammett is very passionate about literature, he makes sure to keep you engaged during lectures. Attendance may be important because he'll randomly give 'one minute responses' at the beginning of class. Office hours are helpful if you want a better grade. Passed with a high B!
Really easy. Super chill. Never bought the book and got an A+ Just turn in your stuff and you'll be golden.
This class is required by every Texas State Freshman. Some teachers have you write essay's and take test, with Mr. Hammet its just show up and discus a little bit about personal experience and leave, usually early. Really easy guy for this class, just do the silly assignments and you're guaranteed and A.
He's great. He gave us books that were written in the past 10 years, so that it wouldn't be so boring to read them. Most were books he had never read before either, so he was experiencing them just as we were. He gives random one minute responses at the beginning of class, so go. He understands that some people hate reading and respects that.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Very patient, thorough in expectations along with grading criteria. Gives you plenty of opportunities to excel in his course. Would definitely take him again if presented.
Hammett is a great professor! He makes the class interesting and fun! Go to class, although its not mandatory but show up because he gives out one minute responses out of nowhere. All he does in class is just talk about the books that are assigned to read and shows mini videos. Great professor i wish i could take him again.
Very easy! If you can't do BritLit, this your opt out. Hammett is cool: total 3 main assignments. Download Scribd app and possibly save money on books(if Scribd has them). Research paper and2 exans. Very good books assigned. Random attendance grades. Just go and listen, you'll ace!
I enjoyed Professor Hammett because the books that he gave us to read were modern and enjoyable. Lectures were very helpful to filling in the spaces where I was not able to read. If you attend class and read most of the book, the tests should be a breeze much like the class.
Professor Hammett is great. You can probably get a B by just paying attention and taking notes during lecture (i.e. not reading the book). If you read the book you're and attend lecture you're pretty much guarenteed an A if you do every assignment. Also very approachable and understanding.
Hammett was a great professor, highly recommend him! He chose modern novels to read throughout the semester, and honestly most of them were very interesting. He always went over what was supposed to be read. Tests are easy as long as you read the book or took great notes. Recommend going to class because he hands out one minute responses very often
Chad Hammett is the most caring teacher I've had in my whole life. The guy is so kind, but will be tough on you if you need it. He's one of those teachers that you look forward to going to class, will teach you so much, and you will want to go to his office hours just to be around his infectious spirit. Couldn't recommend more!
Class was so easy, but US seminar is already boring and this guy talks (about whatever) for the full 50 minutes. If you do the stuff, though, you'll pass. And if you like inspirational talks, go ahead. (Also, FYI his attendance policy only lets you miss one class before penalties are applied). Only sort of had to read the novel for the class.
Truly a great professor!! Unfortunately I was a procrastinator and was always late turning in my PACE assignments, BUT I always participated in class; things like answering questions or even asking questions got me an A in the class. Just go to class and participate, and he'll have your back for the semester.
Truly cares about his students and used the US book in an easy way that included group work. Such an easy class. If you miss twice 5 points are deducted from your overall grade, third time missing 10 points are taken off. Any more than that you fail the class, but thats for all US classes. Chad made the class super fun and connected with everyone.
Chad Hammett was a great professor. I was nervous because I hadn't read the freshman book before coming to class, but he used the book in group work where it only gave us a paragraph to look over and discuss. He genuinely cares about his students and wants to know how their first semester is going. He sparks up great conversation in class.
Professor Hammett was extremely opened minded and you could really tell he cares a lot about his students and what their opinions are and what they have to say. He is also very good with advice and being in his US1100 class made it very accessible to have some there to ask any questions to.
His Teacher Assistants suck so bad and they grade the tests. He is a nice guy, but I strongly felt I should've gotten at least a B on one exam but I got a D, because I got 28 pts taken off of the short answer questions. He stands by his TA's too, regardless of whether they are wrong or right. If you have Anxiety or ADHD, do not take him.
If you have a combination or ADHD and really bad Anxiety together, do not take him. He does not understand how bad your confidence can be shot over a grade you did not deserve. School is hard enough for me as it is and he made it worse. It was hard for me to want to show up to his class knowing that the effort I put in did not matter.
Hammett makes lecture interesting and likes to engage in convo's during lectures. He posts ALL the texts/readings on TRACS so you don't have to buy ANY books!!! Pay attention during lecture as he randomly gives one-minute-response questions to turn in. The exams are simple: multiple choice & a few short answer questions. Take him!
Easy A, not too much work to pass the class. Just read. Attendance is required because he only does one minute responses but they are only 10% of your grade.
I appreciated this professor, he genuinely wanted everyone to pass and picked novels that are interesting to his students. This course was not difficult if you just show up and actually listen! His tests are multiple choice with 4 short answers each, and there is one paper due as well. He grades very leniently and if you try, you will pass.
He practically gives out points if you show up and and make some effort. He really wants students to learn and to enjoy the novels he picks. He will reaffirm the parts he wants you to remember again and again, so tests are a breeze. Just beware of the short answer questions, make sure you have enough time to finish! If you put something youll pass
Chad Hammett is an amazing professor. I took him for my secondary Creative Writing workshop class. He gives really great feedback and he truly cares about your grade and your work, so he will help you as much as he can. This class is also made by the other students because it's a workshop, but he moderates conversation & prompts for good discussion
Hammett class easy literally ALL you have to do is READ for the test. It is a fair amount of reading but that's about it. Also, 20% of your grades are short answer responds that are randomly given out in class (usually about the book you're reading) and forums you answer online (usually about the book you're reading).
Great professor. Truly loves Literature and gives a lot of thought to it when he talks about it. Random and graded short answers given out in class so SHOW UP. Lots of reading, but it's Literature so what did you expect? One three page paper that he toughly grades. He does get a bit abrasive and annoyed if no one in the class answers his question.
Great professor always has a clear lecture and easy to follow always pay attention because the stuff he talks about is always on the exams. Always attend class because there are pop up one minute quick writes. He is always available outside of class and always willing to give good feedback to student. Would 100% recommend taking.
I loved him SO much! I had him in a big lecture hall but he made the class feel small, he is very laid back & cool, he does assign readings which are interesting for the most part, so if you like to read then cool, but if not he still talks about it in class so you can still get a general idea, easy grader, two tests, one paper! RECOMMENDED!!
US LIT SINCE 1865: Attendance is taken randomly and does account for small portion of final grade. Other components that make up the final grade are online forums, two exams, one research paper, and the final exam. Keep up with reading schedule, and the class it not difficult at all! Novels / short stories are interesting and intriguing to read!
I loved this class. Chad is a total bro. If you come to class he will give all the test answers because he only speaks on what actually matters from the texts. Tests are 20 MC and 4 short answers. Beware of surprise writing responses too, but even if you get the answer wrong you will still receive credit for showing up.
I showed up every day, browsed the internet, and I guess absorbed the lectures. What he says in class is verbatim on the exam. Just go even though the attendance policy is lax. My TRACs was broken so two forums got lost. He gave me 100s once I explained, but he didn't have to. Dropped lowest forum and lowest 2 OMRs. Nice but dryish. Great readings.
Boring class but nice teacher. Always let us out 20-30 mins early.
Good professor, you can tell he really cares about students. Lectures can be a bit boring but overall it's a great class. Tests are to the point and basically his lectures, you just need to pay attention. He tried to make the class as relatable and interesting as possible and did a pretty good job doing so. I'd recommend taking him.
This man is wonderful! His criteria is very clear and you can tell he only wants the best for his students. 4 papers & a final. Hes also very generous with grades if you do what he asks with the material. Definitely would take again! Super caring. One of the best professors Ive had so far.
The readings were a bit difficult to understand but explained well in the lectures. The test questions came directly off the powerpoints and lectures, so you just need to take notes and pay attention. Dr. Hammett seemed very passionate and knowledgeable about the readings and explained the material very well.
Coolest professor out there. definitely take him for your us1100, you will probably regret taking anyone else. We had almost no work to do, and the majority was for completion. No tests and no final.
I took two of his classes... first British lit then Film Studies (Jane Austen focus). I LOVED this professor for both courses. He is a very easy grader (I dont have one grade less than a 95), very understanding, easy daily grades (discussion forums) that help bring up your average! His lectures are interesting & if you show up youll make an A
He was the best teacher ever. I usually hate any English class, but his lectures were very interesting. There are weekly discussion posts that are an easy grade. Then a couple of written response tests, but his lectures help a lot on the tests. You can tell that he really cares about the students and I recommend taking him! (I took since 1785)
The best professor I've had so far. He has great lectures that are informational and easy to follow while not making his class hard to pass. You will not regret taking his class!
Prof. Hammett is an amazing professor. He understood that this semester was not like any other. He provided very interesting things to read, and he assigned very little work. There was a discussion due every week, but they were very easy to complete. He also assigned 2 exams and 1 research paper. Very lenient grading, so this course was not hard.
Prof Hammett is awesome! Took him for Brit Lit from 1875-present. Readings were pretty interesting even if Lit is not your subject. Super in-depth lectures about readings so don't miss class. Graded on weekly discussion posts (super easy), 2 written exams and 1 research paper on a british literature piece of your choice not on syllabus. Take him!
HE IS THE BEST!!! Brit Lit is boring asf but he helps you understand and connect it to your life. Weekly reading (not too much), 1 SHORT discussion without responses a week, 2 written exams, 1 short research paper. He wants you to pass and is an easy grader. Just listen and take notes in class, he will say everything that is needed to get an A
do the readings! go to class! that is all. hes a pretty nice guy. i really enjoyed the class! you only need to buy one book (or you did when i took it) he seemed pretty chill and had some good insights :))) didnt know id like byron
Hammett was a cool and chill professor. He made his class extremely accommodating to COVID. do the readings, go to class and youll do well on his exams!
Dr. Hammett is laid back but this class in my opinion was a bit of a drag. I was not very interested in the content so it could be a little tedious. Be sure to do the readings (quite a few) otherwise the written tests will be very difficult. Overall not bad but I wouldn't wanna go back and do it again.
This was my first Literature class as a college student and I absolutely loved it. The professor gives great lectures, and as long as you go to class and do what is asked, there is no reason you shouldnt pass with a very good grade. He explains things exceptionally well and is very relatable and understanding. Would definitely take again!
HAVE HIM AS YOUR US1100 PROFESSOR! All assignments he has will help you in the long run and the common experience events get you to explore all texas state has to offer. Do the assignments, participate (show up and answer whatever minor questions he has) and get an A.
This class does have readings but you can get them online and don't have to buy anything. I do suggest keeping up with the readings for this class because the exams are going to ask questions about what you guys read. For this class, your only grades are 3 exams and discussion posts so keep up with your grades. Attendance is not mandatory.
Great professor! So relatable, funny, and laid back. The 3 free response exams in this class are 4 questions each which are based on the assigned readings. You MUST read in order to do well. Further, class is not mandatory BUT attending class gives you the knowledge you need to ace the exams. I don't like brit lit, but I liked this course.
Chad is the best professor I have ever taken. His lectures are insightful and very easy. He doesn't grade hard and tells you exactly what he looks for when grading an assignment. Every week, you have a discussion, four essay-based exams that are straightforward to understand if you attended his lectures, and an easy final essay.
this class is really good for an easy A. however, I did feel very bored by his lectures and assignments. i usually love english, but I just felt so bored in this class. take this class if you want an easy A without much work
I personally am not a fan of his class because literature is not my thing but he went out of his way to choose the best and most interesting stories! I like how he formats his class and is one of those professors that actually cares about his students and their well being and understands how life is and does not overcomplicated work/load. Take him!
Hammett is a great professor! I really enjoyed his course.
Overall good Professor, Lectures are not the most interesting thing. But besides that a really nice guy, and good professor.
His lectures are not the most entertaining lectures, but his class is not difficult. There are only two exams, but most of the grading is from a few short stories that we read. Easy class as long as you do the work that is given.
I hate boring English classes but his was the most entertaining English class. Our grades are discussions, 2 exams (written) and one research paper. Overall not too bad at all I loved this class and proof Hammett is so caring and nice! I wish I could take him again
Great prof! You aren't required to show up to class, but if you do, I promise you won't regret it. (In fact, you might regret NOT showing up.) Lectures were super interesting, and a lot of the in-class discussions were used for the exams. You've got to read a lot of short stories, but if you miss a few, it's easy to catch up.
This was the best English class I had ever taken in college. He is very understanding in the fact that many taking this class are only for credit so the workload is easy and short stories are interesting. The lecture helps a lot with the two essay exams so I would recommend attending! Easy grading as long as you put in the effort!
I am a firm hater of literature and this class was VERY enjoyable. If you just suck it up, go to class, and take notes, he gives you the exact answers for the exams. I ended with a 100 because i gave the bare minimum of effort. Even though its a lit class it is very minimal writing, longest thing is two double-spaced pages.
The coolest and nicest teachers I've ever had. I'm a science major and was nervous taking a British literature class because I have no interest in writing, this became one of my favorite classes. Professor Hammett is a fair grader and picks really interesting readings for the course. If you come to class and take notes, you will Ace this class.
Honestly one of the most chill literature professors you could have!! This was one of my last prerequisites before graduating and hate writing essays but as long as you go to class you'll be able to pass with an A. We are graded on discussions and "essays" which are really like 4 questions you have to answer. Only lazy people could fail this class.
He had four assignments which were easy and you would workshop them. He makes you a better writer and cares about your passing.
Honestly for a english class he was good. I hate english but needed the credit and he made it dooable. 10 discussions, no replys needed, 2 take home exams, 1 research paper (only 3 pages). He understand why half of us are here so he makes the class easy to pass. However he talks all lecture about literature and i didnt show up to 25% of thr classes
Amazing lectures! I have a 100% in his class if you show up and do the readings it is an easy A. Although attendance is not mandatory some of the readings are difficult but if you go to class he thoroughly explains the readings plus sometimes you have in-class assignments so make sure to show up.
This is probably the best an english professor can be if you don't like english. If you just attend lecture, you can gain a pretty good grasp on any of the course content. Exams are short-essay questions and are not difficult, just so long as you somewhat know what you're talking about.
As an incoming freshman I was scared of many of the writing intensive courses but this course really eased my worries as it was very easy to write papers for. The professor is very knowledgeable in his area making his lectures very useful in being able to help students answer the prompts to his exams. I totally recommend him as a professor!
This class is not hard at all, but the lectures can feel like they last forever if you don't care about literature. You don't really need to attend class, but you should because he goes over the readings. Only 10 discussions which are pretty much completion grades, two written exams, and an essay. The TA's do the grading and are pretty fair.
I would take him every semester if I could! TA's were sometimes tougher than him grade-wise but he is available and 100% willing to help you. Passionate and really wants you to pass. Discussions weekly (usually minimum 50-100 words) and occasional in-class activity so I would recommend attending class. Class almost always ended early!
He loves to have discussions every class about what we have read but it isn't mandatory to talk. the assignments are not bad at all. Highly recommend.
Professor Hammett makes this literature class manageable, even for those of us who aren't big English fans. The workload is light - 10 discussions, 2 exams, and a short paper. Attending lectures is helpful, as he covers key concepts. Unstuck study also proved useful for quick review.
A lot of readings, like everyday, but you can get away from them as long as you attend class and take notes on the analysis. Two online exams, one research paper, and some discussion posts. He gives really good lectures, and as long as you go to lectures you should be fine. There is not really extra credit.
The easiest class with the easiest professor.
Great professor! I was nervous about British Literature at first, but Professor Hammett made it enjoyable. He replies to emails quickly, the TAs were amazing, and he's just a really cool professor. Definitely take his class!
I took it for an online mini-mester and he was AMAZING!!! Super easy class but since it was a condensed class it was 2 short papers due every couple of days but nothing overwhelming. Easy grader and perfect class to take over break.
I'm not a literature person, however prof. Hammett is exactly who I would want as my professor for this subject. He's very kind and treats his students with respect, he grades his papers fairly, and makes this class interesting despite it not being an interesting subject (to me). Definitely take his class, whichever class it is!
Straightforward class with a very respectable professor. Loved his digestible lectures. Don't want to read a lot? Pay attention in class. Got an A+ with minimal reading because he explains the books very well (tailored) for his exams. Exams are essays with ~5 days to do each. Easy discussion posts. Don't like Brit Lit myself but highly recommend.
My favorite professor I've had at Texas State so far.
