He is a great professor. He has worked in the field so he know what he is talking about. Gives great details during lectures, also uses PowerPoint. Don't have to read textbook to pass. About a 2 page paper per week based on the textbook.
Great professor! Very experienced with the field. A lot of lectures but most of it is material from the powerpoints and the textbook. Take good notes and study and the exams will be easy. Textbook is mostly for the homework, which are always short papers (1-2 pages) about specific topics. No quizzes. Takes attendance.
Professor Jordan is really great! The course material & exams are really easy if you just listen to the lectures. He gives out weekly writing assignments that have to be a page and they come from the textbook but they're really easy to write in like an hour tops. He also drops the 2 lowest assignment grades. Go to class! Attendance is an easy 100.
Do the assignments and study for the test and you will pass.
Professor Jordan does a very good job teaching this class. He is very experienced in the field and brings in a lot of guest speakers. The lectures can be a bit boring and he uses minimal PowerPoints while he reads from the textbook. There are online assignments but they are not very difficult. Come to class and study and you will get an A.
You get out what you put into this class. Don't expect him to curve your grade at all. Reads straight from the textbook and power points all semester long.
Professor Jordan is a great instructor. He has lots of experience in the criminal justice field but he is new to teaching. His lectures aren't the best and he tends to read straight off powerpoint. Sometimes he can be a little scatterbrained since he's so new but it's obvious that he's passionate about what he's teaching and his students.
Mr. Jordan tends to do a lot of reading from the textbook and PowerPoint slides. The lectures are very dry and while he did take attendance for the class, usually if you study the textbook on your own time you'll be fine. He does not like study guides so make sure you have good study habits.
Super chill guy. Easy going and uses textbook in class. A short response essay every week but it really isn't that big of a deal and he drops your lowest. No quizzes or pop quizzes. Took him for intro to criminal justice and chose him for again forensics. Also lowkey pretty hot. Only downside is some lectures can tend to be a little boring.
Mr. Jordan has been by far one of the best professors I've had during my time here at ECU. He knows the material he teaches and is very good at lecturing.
Good Professor, The criminal justice 2004 class he teaches though, sucks. A lot of memorization, and he only gives out a study guide on the final. Oh, and the final and research paper are worth 55% of your grade. Fail one, you'll probably fail the class.
He is very strict about attendance, must go to class to pass. Pretty easy grader on his paper, worth 20% of final grade. (APA Format). His tests aren't that easy, must study. Final for this class is worth 35%.
He is the best! 10 out of 10 recommend! More than willing to help you with anything you need!
Jordan is probably one of THE best professors in the criminal justice department I've had this far. He's super easy to talk to and he will reply to your emails. He says you should get the textbook but it should be optional. The textbook helped a lot though when you're confused. Lecture heavy but everything in the lecture is on the quiz/exam. EASY!
Prof. Jordan is a good teacher, his tests are all multiple choice and he uploads his power points online, but attendance is part of your grade so definitely go to class.
He was a great instructor, knew his information for Corrections. Had a lot of speakers in the class. I highly suggest taking his class.
I've taken him for all 3 of my JUST classes, and I have gotten an A in each one. He is a great professor. Attendance is definitely mandatory. Super easy exams, and he often offers extra credit. The only downside is that he teaches straight from the powerpoints, so lectures can be a little dry.
Took Mr. Jordan for both JUST 2004 & 2009. One of the best professors I've ever had at ECU. Show up for class and take good notes. Powerpoints are posted online and a good source for review since the exam questions are worded the same. Don't waste your money on the books. Lots of guest speakers and always available for questions. 10/10 recommend!
Professor Jordan is easily the most dry professor I've ever had. Several times in class he'll pause to read the book for 30 seconds or so. It takes him 3-4 classes to cover one powerpoint. Material is decent, but he just seems to not know much about forensics. He mispronounces several words but that's just me nit picking.
He's not a hard teacher. The downsides of taking him are that his lectures can be very boring. He reads straight from the slides and doesn't include pictures. I find myself dozing off in his classes frequently. Also, how he writes exams are terrible to me, just read it more than one time. All in all he's friendly and gives extra credit.
Mr. Jordan is a nice and knowledgable professor. Attendance is mandatory and on Top Hat so you have to go. You have to answer participation questions on there and only get half credit if you answered it wrong. But attendance and participation is only 15% of grade. Tests and quizzes are both pretty much straight from power point and not hard.
Mr. Jordan is one of the most dry professors I have ever had. He is very strict on attendance and TopHat participation. He goes through on average about three slides per class because he just rambles. He made my JUST 2009 class write a 3 page paper just to count it as a participation grade. He is not a hard teacher, but I recommend someone else.
I really enjoyed his class but I he allows everyone to be on their phone and computer. It is hard to hear and focus when all you can here is clicking. Also he allows attendance to go all through the class so people are constantly walking in and out of the class. I can barely focus. I paid money to learn On campus. Unfortunately I learn more at home
He is a little dull, but overall a really great professor. He has alot of guest speakers and opportunities for trips to correctional institutions. Really good class overall.
Mr. Jordan is so helpful with assignments and wants to help you learn the material. He isn't so clear on what's on the exams/ quizzes, so as long as you show up to class & take good notes you're fine. He tells you its "what I covered in class." He is willing to help you if you show effort. Attendance matters, you only have 2 free skips.
Professor Jordan is a great teacher. He has guest speakers a lot. You have to come to class and participate on TopHat. Quizzes and texts are usually straight from the powerpoints. Very interesting class but sometimes the lectures are dry.
Easily one of the worst professors I've had. He gave us 36 hours to basically memorize the entire textbook and then take an exam on it. He gives excessive amounts of work and does not have a clear grading system. It took him almost a complete month to grade the first paper. He makes his class hard for no reason. Never again will I take him.
A couple things you should know before taking this class is that it's extremely lecture heavy (EdPuzzle). Within this class we've had discussion boards (10) but you can skip 3, quizzes (6) but he drops the lowest quiz grade, 2 exams + 1 final (camera) and 1 essay (3-5 pages). Lastly not least, he's a fast communicator.
When he lectures, he goes ON AND ON about the same thing for like half an hour. And that's fine, except he just keeps repeating himself and rephrasing, which makes a lesson that should take 15 mins take an hour. He doesn't sound like he knows what he's talking about at all, and just reads straight from the PowerPoint unless he's repeating himself.
Unless you are a criminal justice major, avoid taking this class online! The mandatory lectures are extremely long, redundant, and dry. This class is WAY too comprehensive for an introductory course. Tests and quizzes are pretty difficult and count toward the majority of your grade.
Honestly if he is your last choice for online CJ class . Say a little prayer. Hes a terrible lecturer. 1-2 hour long lectures where he doesnt know what to say. Also he uses lockdown browser webcam
I had Professor Jordan for my intro to Criminal Justice online class. His pre-recorded lectures were very long and can get boring at times but if you read the chapters and pay attention to the slideshows on the lectures, you will succeed in the class with ease.
The class consisted of 10 discussion boards, 6 quizzes, 3 exams, and a 10 page paper. Just to give an idea of how slow of a grader he is, the class has been over for a week and he has yet to grade half of the discussion board posts. Also, if you watch all of the lecture videos but five, you get an F. He mumbles, and says um more than actual words.
Took a quiz in the library and the computer malfunctioned and turned off. I told him about it in person the next day. He didn't care and just let me fail that quiz. Doesn't give you a break, nor cares about mistakes.
I have Chad Jordan online for correctional systems (JUST 2009). This man posts 3 hour long lectures, repeating himself and long pauses . Stay away from him if you can. He also requires discussion boards, quizzes due in the same week. Some weeks you will have a quiz and an exam in the same week, along with discussions/lectures. He never grades.
He makes us watch hour long lectures on Ed puzzle, so you cant skip ahead or anything. To get the participation points u have to answer the questions on edpuzzle correctly but he doesnt give u the answer until AFTER the question is asked. He uses lockdown browser and straight up said we should know everything for the quizzes. dont recommend
Let me start off by saying, I WOULDNT WISH THIS MAN ON MY WORST ENEMY. He posts 2 long lectures each week, totaling 3 hours of lectures all together. His exams are hard ASF, and you have to use Respondus Lockdown Browser. There are 12 discussion boards Ive completed 8 already, hes only graded 2. Hes very lazy, and makes the class hard.
Don't take him online you might could get away with his long winded lectures in person, but not online while trying to read the text book at the same time.
Professor Jordan is ok in person. NOT ONLINE. Be my guest if you want to be bombarded with 2 hour long edpuzzles and respondus tests and quizzes on the daily. On the student perspective saying to professor Jordan (if your reading this) DROP EDPUZZLE. IT DOES NOT HELP STUDENTS LEARN. YOU MAKE US WANT TO DROP YOUR CLASS. JUST DONT DO IT. Thanks
I actually thought I was going to fail his class but finished with an A! Prof Jordan is tough but he is also accessible when you need help. This wasn't an easy class but I learned a lot and would take him again since I know his teaching style. Reading and studying is the key to being successful in his class, he is an old school teacher. Thanks
Makes you use Tophat in order to take attendance. Top hat costs 35$ a semester to use. So you have to pay money to prove you were in class and get a good attendance grade. Think about how dumb that sounds. Paying money to get grades. Last time i checked you were suppose to work hard to earn grades. I guess things have changed
Avoid Jordan all together. He will fail you if you skip a certain number of classes regardless of your grade, his drags on lectures for no reason other than not wanting to let you out early, he's insensitive to certain topics, he's extremely biased. I honestly have nothing positive to say about him, just avoid him if possible.
Jordan is boring but the class is not that hard. If you study a decent amount you can pass his tests and quizzes. They are really similar to his notes/powerpoints if you just go over them. I haven't received anything below a 90 in his class. His lectures are just boring, but if you study and work hard you can pass easily. Extra credit on tests too.
Chad Jordan is the absolute worst experience. He has no respect for his students. Gives tests with material that arent in the notes, makes you pay money for attendance, etc. He also loves making his final exams on the last possible day so you basically have to sit around rolling your thumbs just to take his exam. This class is just the worst
I just don't like the guy. I missed a test because at 7:30 that morning I found out a close family member passed away. I was on the way to class. I was not in the mindset to take the test at all. I tried to talk to him about retaking it. He didn't budge. Have a heart man.
Does not know how to teach. Always having a guess speaker teaching. Puts in grades last minute. Would not recommend.
He is very chill and laid back. Attendance is mandatory but he usually gives his students two free days. He grades a little heavy on his discussion boards and always be sure to study for the exams and quizzes. Overall, he was a great professor and I had a great semester in his class.
Professor Jordan is a hard grader when it comes to discussion posts but overall, good professor. He takes attendance seriously so if you show up to class, you'll be fine. Offers 3 chances for extra credit and drops the lowest grade at the end of the semester.
Jordan was a good teacher and honestly one of the easier classes of my semester. Tests are super easy they are the exact same questions from the quizzes you take before hand. All of these bad reviews are either just from people who took the class online or failed based on attendance. Super easy class for an elective, would recommend.
This was not a hard class but Chad makes it incredibly boring. Enjoyed the guest speakers he brought in but otherwise will be avoiding his classes at all costs. So if you're okay with an excessive attendance policy and boring class but easy exams, take him.
I am a straight-A student, and this class killed me. He is a boring professor and expects you to memorize everything from the readings. He wouldn't be a lousy professor if he would make the class enjoyable.
Lectures are pretty boring, so I don't recommend him for an AM class because you will want to go to sleep. ADVICE - He uses TOPHAT for attendance. It is location-based so you have to be near the computer that generates the code. It also has all of the PowerPoints that he uses. Take notes before the class, so it becomes more of a review.
very lecture-heavy, if you have questions, ask them. wants students to create discussion in his class. sets up a few tours and guest speakers, which is amazing if you are looking for places to do an internship. he uses tophat for attendance and only gives out the chapter presentation after finishing teaching it. extra credit opportunities as well.
He's is a really sweet guy but his class is very boring. Attendance is mandatory and a huge chunk of your grade. If you take him definitely read the textbook and take the quizzes before the exam (similar answers). His tests are more difficult than you would think but he does drop the lowest quiz. Also very understanding if you have a situation.
Overall he was a great professor! His lectures can be boring but if you take notes and read the textbook you'll be fine. He had several guest speakers come in over the semester which was really great. He truly does enjoy teaching and likes when students ask questions and engage the lectures. 3-4 homework assignments, 3 exams, and a final.
Starting of strong all our exams are worth 70% OF OUR GRADE! I had a 92 in the class got a 70% on ONE exam and it dropped my grade 7 POINTS.Not to mention that the exams will go over material you never covered in class. He has no idea how to time mange. tried to cover 4 chapters in 5 days. WILL NOT SHUT UP ABOUT HOW SOME COPS ARE JUST "BAD APPLES"
Professor Jordan basically lectures every class and sometimes brings in guest speakers. You definitely need to take notes as the test questions come mostly come from lecture notes, and book info occasionally. He does offer 5 extra cred questions on each test. You can't skip this class really as attendance is taken on Top Hat (location based)
I genuinely liked Prof Jordan. He has a lot of experience in the field, and uses easy examples in order for you to better understand the material. I did very well in this class because I studied. You must study to earn an A. Plus, the material is very straightforward. But beware: he also grabs his test questions from the textbook.
When I first took this guy I thought he was kind of strict. However the more I got to know him I realized he is a real passionate guy and as long as you show up for everything you will d
Prof Jordan is nice but lectures are incredibly boring and talks the entire time. Class lectures don't relate much to exam critiera. Attendance is a huge chunk of grade, with homework every 2-3 weeks that only counts for participation. Quizzes and exams are the only grades so it is important to study. Extra Credit is given and many guest speakers.
I like Chad. He is very helpful and overall a nice guy. But he rambles just to take up the whole class period, and his attendance policy is excessive. His exams are not hard if you study and he does give out extra credit. His assignments are too tedious only to be counted for participation.
Chad's class was enjoyable some days, if you don't mind taking notes they go by quickly. Exams are easy if you follow the guides and offer lots of extra credit opportunities and guest speakers.
Professor Jordan talks the whole time throughout the lectures. Class will never be canceled or let out early. Many guest speakers and extra credit is offered. Not many assignments to be graded on, so studying for tests is important. Lots of information is given out, but most is not even on the tests or quizzes. He moves at a slow pace.
Graded on very few things. Exams are not on anything we have learned in class. Attendance matters and class is never canceled or released early. He talks the entire time which can be very boring unless a guest speaker is there.
He is a nice guy, but his lectures are very long and tiresome because he rambles a lot. The corrections class itself was interesting and the non-mandatory tours of jails/prisons he offered were very cool to experience. His exams are hard becasue the questions are very lengthy and he words them strangely. Take his class in the morning if possible.
He explains lectures realy well from the textboook. On his exams, the anwsers are legit based on the power points and quizzes. He is very respectful, really good at responding back to emails, and fair grading professor. He is not really intimidating. I got to know professor Jordan really well this Fall '23 & Sping '24 semester.
He is knowledgable about his classes and has real experience, and he does care. He's just pretty strict and doesn't except absences, excuses or late work. Attendance is mandatory, he'll fail you if you miss 7 classes, he gives you 2 free absences. He gives opportunities like tours, career fairs, and guest speakers. There was a little extra credit.
Attendance is mandatory. Wouldn't say he is a strict grader, however, there are few assignments in the gradebook. Most of the outside-of-the-classroom work, as long as you do it and turn it in on time, is an easy A. He is very good at what he does and as long as you apply yourself the class is fairly easy.
Although Mr. Jordan might be somewhat serious, he has an in-depth understanding of subject matter. His classes are easy, if you pay attention. He is a great person and always willing to explain anything without judgment. Studying is a must -- all test material can be found within the PowerPoints and random things mentioned in his lectures.
Chad is a good guy. He does make attendance VERY mandatory and he does give somewhat difficult tests, however he is the most passionate CJ teacher at ECU. He strictness is only to make you better. It is probably the only class at ECU where i actually retained information. I know his lectures are a bit monotone but just deal with it trust me.
unprofessional does not accept work even an hour late when there are no posts on canvas talking about assignment
Very strict does not care about family matters
Attendance is mandatory. All he does is lecture. He gives no study guide, just expects you to know what's on the exams. Is not considerate. Bunch of guest speakers but it's almost too many. Your grade is based on 3 exams, 6 lockdown quizzes, and attendance. feel like I've retained nothing compared to all my other criminal justice classes.
Chad Jordan is a great professor, he knows a lot about the material and will help you as much as he can. He gives extra credit questions on exams which help your grade a lot. He doesn't give formal study guides, but he will give a doc with important information from each chapter to help you understand more. Attendance is important in this class!
Teacher is not very understanding. Attendance is mandatory, lectures are boring, lots of extra credit/guest speakers. We had two tests and a final, 5-6 quizzes, and some attendance work. Overall this class was not super hard, but it is one you have to study for. Just make sure to take notes and do the work. I didn't buy the textbook and was fine.
Professor Jordan is great! Nice guy and very knowledgeable. Had him twice and enjoyed both. Lectures can be really boring, and the amount of guest speakers is a bit extreme, but the class is an easy A as long as you GO! Quizzes are all online and easy. Review the quiz questions for the tests and you'll be good! LOTS of extra credit opportunities.
This was intended to be my easiest class. It was not. In every class, he would rant about the most random things, which was "what your test is based on." ??? It just made no sense. If you are about to take him and you have a class following his class, you better hope it is nearby. He goes three minutes over EVERY SINGLE CLASS without fail.
He's a good professor and knows what he's talking about, but the tests are kind of difficult and his attendance policy is unnecessarily strict. The test questions are hard and a little too niche, so try to focus on details when he lectures. Entire grade is just quizzes, tests, and attendance- study and go to class you'll end with a good grade
Mr. Jordan is a great dude who cares a lot about his students. People who give negative reviews probably didn't try in his class or got a poor grade. Pay attention and take notes in the class and you will get a decent grade. Talk to him if you have something going on, he will help you.
Although his class was mandatory, very strict on attendance, his class was very interesting. If you want to be in the Criminal Justice field, Chad Jordan is the guy you want teaching you. Just be prepared to study for tests, as they are worth a majority of your grade, same with his lockdown quizzes. He also does extend class out by a few minutes.
Chad knows a lot about this course and is always willing to help will studying and understanding material. He does talk about the lecture a lot to the point where we are behind and have to learn the exam material on our own time. He gives 6 unexcused absences before failing, he don't play with that so get a doctors note.
Very strict grader if he doesnt like the way you worded something you will not get a good grade. Gives “study guides” but none of it is ever on the exams so good luck.
Had Chad for multiple CJ classes. Boring lectures. Study guides don't help. Review your notes and memorize all of the bold vocab words in your textbook and you'll do fine on exams. Finals are literally just recognizing those definitions. Take him again once you figure out how his exams are structured and you'll do well in all CJ classes.
I get why some people dont like him. When I took him attendance was required, his lectures were long and sometimes got boring, but he was truly a good professor that just wanted you to do well. If u simply read the notes and powerpoints he makes the class is actually pretty easy. Hes a good contact to have too for post grad. Has good guest speakers
He's a VERY nice guy. Lectures can be a bit boring. But, he's a GREAT professor. Great at teaching the material & explaining it in a way to make sure you get it. He always emphasizes what's important and what will be on quizzes/exams. Just listen in class and jot down the important stuff, you'll pass with an A. He's a great guy, with a great class.
Class is completely lectures no group work or participation. Does not grade assignments until end of the semester. Very knowledgable in criminal justice has a lot of experience in the field. Exams very difficult, no study guides.
He is an awful professor! The worst professor I have ever had. Heavy lectures. Boring very dry lectures. Do not come in late on test days. He will not let you test. Don't miss a test day. If you miss a test day you will receive a zero. He has zero compassion! Avoid taking his courses if they are not required!
Boring course. Lecture is very boring. No study guide. Never miss class don't even be late. I do not recommend taking his courses unless you have to. He is the worst professor I have ever had.
Attendance is mandatory, but all of his rules are very valid. Test are hard, lectures not always the most entertaining but assignments are very easy and he is very knowledgeable and helpful.
