BORING!!
Hated this class, rambled on and on boring professor.
so knowledgable, he gives you more than enough information. his exams aren't that bad either. and he's fun to look at (the dorky but cute type)
Omg. he's hot! lol I thought he was one of the students. he does give a lot of info on the works of art. make sure u take notes and study them. u dont even need the book. sh!t. I didn't buy one. btw he's a hottie! lol
wow what a hottie. he's young but is so intelligent and knows so much. you'll learn a lot.
good teacher. very smart and hot.
great teacher, has a lot of knowlege about the subject.
great teacher! he has a lot of knowledge on the subject and is always willing to go over things and clearify. he's a very guy and very helpful, i really enjoyed this class.
His class is simple and mostly consists of power points and notes. He only wants you to memorize the artist, title, and the period's name for tests. You also only need to remember about 40 paintings too and you don't need the textbook if you take notes. He's funny and cute but utilizes full class time and only gives one ten minute break. Very smart
i admit he's a really good teacher and everything, but i had such a hard time getting good grades in his class. be ready to study like hell and write really really fast when he gives lectures. two tests (2 essays/slide identifications) and two quizzes (1 essay each). in other words, no multiple choice. jus study hard. understand it well.
Very informative, walking encyclopedia. I believe he also works at the MET and is really passionate about his work and what he teaches. A lot of memorizing before exams, a lot of notes. The class is overall interesting and you don't feel like you're wasting your time if you go.
I LOVE CHAD! HE IS SMART, HIS LECTURES ARE CLEAR, HE IS MORE THAN WILLING TO CLEARIFY OR ANSWER FURTHER QUESTIONS. YOU HARDLY NEED THE TEXTBOOK BECAUSE HE LECTURES IN A WAY WE CAN UNDERSTAND (U MAY NEED THE TXTBOOK TO MEMORIZE DATES & LOOK AT PICTURES). HE USES FULL CLASS TIME--MAKE SURE YOU PARTICIPATE IN THE CLASS. OH, AND HE'S HOT. :)
great professor! you really have to memorize some of the stuff but its a great class
Cool, nice guy. Class was waaay boring. I personally found the tests to be very hard... You have to memorize a lot of works of art and know their time period, title, artist, and something else. You have to memorize all 240589948 of them then he only shows like 10. He's picky on the essay parts as well.. few people did well. At least he's eye candy?
One of the most fulfilling courses I have ever taken. A lot of memorization, but worth it in the end. Tough quizzes and tests (all essay) and a 4 page term paper. Don't miss a class! Sit up front and pay attention and you'll get a good grade!

BEST TEACHER EVER! I love this class. He makes what could be a boring topic very interesting and I look forward to it every week. He really knows what he's talking about and he knows how to communicate it well to students. Yes, it's a difficult class with a lot to memorize but if you have to this class with anyone take it with Laird!
dont even bother buying the book.he goes over the material so well in class that you dont have to read.
Amazing Teacher! Teaches one everything one needs to know. Book not required. Cool, fair, and great teacher
I've never taken an art class prior to this so I definently had to study and keep up, you will need to use the book to study at home. Very interesting class, he is very detailed in the way he teaches, tells you the backstory to all of the art, not boring at all, he is pretty nice to look at as well.
just about to graduate, after 4 years I would have to say one of my favorite classes, very cute teacher!
One of my favorites. Not an easy class but he keeps you pretty interested in the subject. He's very passionate about art history so I guess that helps as well. Would definetly recommend this professor.
good teacher.i took art history and it was fun.
I looked forward to this class every week. He is very passionate about art history and keeps the class interested in it too. Participation is big to him. I definitely recommend this teacher! He's very good looking too, which helps a bit. Very animated!
OMG, so I'm not the only one who thinks he's hot! Excellent teacher by the way, forces you to participate, funny, everything you need to know for the tests is in his lectures. Basically if you just write down everything he says you don't even need to look at the textbook.
I fell in love with Chad Laird. He is not only physically attractive, but his brain is even more attractive.. wow, blew me away. I looked forward to going to class each week. You can tell he really enjoys teaching. Ask him a question and he most likely can go far and beyond answering it. There needs to be more interesting professors like him.
most AMAZING proefessor EVER!! i hated art history and was dreading taking this class..he really made me love it and I learned so much. This class is not the easiest though, but you will learn so much!!
Worst class I ever had to sit through for 3 whole hours every week. When I wasn't falling asleep I was bored out of my mind and listened to him talk about the same painting for an hour, not to mention he definitely favors students!
Can anyone say amazing?he is so knowledgeable and interesting!his classes were very well put and his passion for art history really came through!he has a very charming personality and yes he is very good looking but I fell in love with his mind more.two thumbs up!
Such a total cutie!! He is an excellent professor with tons of knowledge and GREAT hair. He is always willing to help. I had Trudie Grace and dropped the class she is a disaster and made me hate art history, but in his class I learned so much and now really enjoy art.
What a great teacher, he's young but experienced and passionate on the subject. I was expected a dry lecture type of class but found it very engaging. Take notes on everything he has to say about the paintings you discuss in class, as far as analyzing them you will need that information. The book is helpful but what he has to say is more relevant.
If I were an evil mad scientist I would probably try to steal Chad Laird's brain in order to further my plots of world domination.
He's not that young, he was born in the early 70's or late 60's!!!! HOTTIE!!! The only class at FIT where I needed to use my BRAIN! HA112 & Modern Art.
Hard class, but interesting. Taking thorough notes is a necessity, but don't buy the text book! I never used it. He puts everything you need to know on angel, including print-friendly flash cards with the name and date of each work you need to know for tests.
amazing. he is worth listening to. learned so much and used my brain! he is very interesting. sign up for his class!!
You will use your brain a lot! and you'll read again. Shocker. Take his class!!!
Taking this class now. Extremely helpful for FD major student like me. Mind-changing lectures, really learning the concept of imagery, which is the core for any design major students. Full of charisma, yes, he's HOT!
Awesome Professor. He could be tough at times but is totally willing to help you. He is an EXTREMELY fair grader. Plenty of opportunities to do well
A must have professor for any Art History class. He makes the students really interested in the subject and engaged in each lesson. He's not that hard but you really have to copy down everything he says and study his flashcards and terms. You don't really need the textbook but I would still get it to help for studying. Definitely a great professor.
Hes an awesome professor! Its really the material that is so difficult. He is very helpful if you ask something! The textbook isnt mandatory. Your grades based on like 4 grades so study and participate. Hes not a harsh grader and the tests are always the same: essays and IDing works. Just pay attention, take notes, and study each week to keep up
Found myself engrossed even when art history was really never my thing. Such interesting lectures. And crystal clear! This is one art history class where you will never fall asleep, guaranteed. Funny guy too.
He is the funniest teacher i had this semester! Prof. Laird is really young and cool, so his approach to teaching is really fun. A little awkward at first, but soon enough he'll be making jokes and you'll find yourself really looking forward to that class that day!
There are a lot of reading, writing, and thinking in his class so it takes time and lots of effort to get a good grade. But as long as you follow, it shouldn't be too bad. I have his Art In NY right now and the subjects we are looking at are weird: they are about violence, monstrosity, and sexuality. He always has so much to say about sexuality...
Great teacher! Knows so much about art and is very enthusiastic and loves art! I learned so much from him. He expects a lot, but that is good. Art is hard and thinking about art is hard, but he values your opinion.
One of the most friendly teachers I have had. He is extremely well-informed about Art History and his passion for art shows through his teaching. I would highly recommend him to anyone! Also, he's pretty hot.
WHAT AN AMAZING PROFESSOR! First of all, how anyone could not like this guy or be affected by his class in some way is IMPOSSIBLE. He will change the way you look at art, teaching with such a passion for it and the history behind it. I wound up accidentally getting a minor in AH. Oh yeah and he is adorable/cute/charming/funny. One of FIT's best.
A great professor who's really passionate and knowledgable about the subjects. Yes, he's cute but that's the last thing you'll think about while sitting through his amazing lectures. He's a fair grader and his quizs/tests aren't hard as long as you study.
He never sits still. Very, very, very animated.
Absolutely incredible! Lectures are mind blowing, inspirational, and just wow. His delivery is super compelling, passionate, and clear. Definitely one of the best professors I've had at FIT. Really wish he taught more classes, going through some serious withdrawal right now with a not so amazing professor...
This class is fairly easy. The new module opens every 2 weeks. Towards the end of each module, he'll open a 10 question quiz, which is never too hard. There is a midterm and a final (not cumulative) that were kind of hard due to them being essays. Each module has a voice discussion that I hated doing, but it's not hard.
I really liked his lecture style and how he explains and analyzes details in every artifacts that we study. BUT, he is not understanding and grades really really rough on quizzesexams. I suggest you record his lecture through your phonemac, then listen to them when you get back home. If you miss a class, then you are most likely to fail.
He is very enthusiastic and dedicated. He encourages you to participate you. even if you are wrong about the answer, it's totally ok. He respects your opinions and doesn't make you embarrassed. The quizzes and exams are reasonable. You have to study materials posted online. One class covers quite a lot. Don't skip. I learned a lot about Modern art
THIS CLASS IS VERY HARD; HOWEVER, THE MATERIAL IS SUPER INTERESTING. HE IS A TOUGH GRADER. BE PREPARED TO TAKE DETAILED NOTES.
He has a comical approach I appreciate. If you pay attention, chances are you'll do great. If you write essays well-you don't have to worry. Not much reading, not much homework, but if you don't study-you have no hope. He was patient. Kind. Answers any question. But more importantly he was inspiring. Never thought I'd be fascinated, but I loved it!
Chad is an amazing, high energy professor. Don't miss class or you will regret it . Everything he has to say is facinating. He assigns a lot of readings, so Keep up With them to get the most out of this class. I learned so much, I would go back and take his course again if FIT would let me!!!
To each his own. Two classmates of mine find in him a staple of the critical thinking that many other art history professors/classes lack. He's a cool guy. I wish he'd get less caught up in his own thought process, other can have a chance to formulate ideas. His attention is a little elsewhere, but, interesting character.
HORRIBLE!
I think, at the end of a bureaucratic day, he does stand apart in the (very niche) AHMP major. Might be thankful for Chad's presence because, in the picture, he's less stoic than the rest although his position limits what he can accomplish.
I would say, no matter what grade you might have, TAKE HIM, YOU DESERVE IT. He is definitely knowledgeable and extremely good in teaching!!! I had never taken a history class and focus that much in class. the info he gives worth the money. I took him for summer and love it, 2 quizzes with midterm and final. might be hard but definitely recommend!
Great professor, well rounded, and knew his material. He gave interesting and engaging lectures, and handed out a midterm and a final with a few quizzes in between. Can take a while to grade things, and I still have gotten my painting report back, but great class. Amazing professor, easy and interesting class.
His lectures are incredible and interactive. Though there is a textbook for the class, it's incredibly important to be present because he teaches a ton more than there is in the textbook. The lectures will also help you make connections and make the exams a lot easier (and they're already easy if you pay attention and take notes accordingly).
Up until I took History of Art with Chad, I was dreading this course. I thought it would be so boring, and being a business major I didn't understand why this type of course is required for me. Once I actually started the class, I fell in love with the subject and with him. Incredibly interesting subject matter, very chill and laid back guy.
Prof. Laird knows his stuff and is a great lecturer, I enjoyed coming to class and learned a lot. He is a tough and elusive grader for papers, but participation is a huge part of the grade, so you can make up for that. You have to do the readings and participate, but if you do you will get a lot out of this class.
Very intelligent professor, is kind, but his course work is a bit difficult. He thinks all of his students are design majors so he expects you to know everything about art and design beforehand. Participation matters. Exams are difficult- STUDY and memorize the paintings. Pay attention to every single work he shows in class.
Definitely one of my favorite professors at FIT so far. I had him my first semester and he made me fall in love with Renaissance art. Take a lot of notes on what he says and study them- you should be fine. He knows his stuff and he definitely has a passion for what he teaches!
He is a tough grader on paper and quiz. Class is long and boring. You have to pay all attention to the lecture he gave. Hard class.
he's incredibly smart, knows so much and really knows what he's talking about. he tries to make class interesting, he's pretty funny. he takes up the entire class time lecturing though. he's very specific and grades based on specificity. attend ALL lectures, its your only way to get good notes.
The perfect professor does not exi..
I took this as a summer course and it was really great and relaxed. His notes were clear and we used essays from the MET as our textbook. There was a quiz at the end of every module which wasnt that bad, one midterm and final which were just comparing two art works, and every module he made you do a voice thread which is annoying but oh well.
Chad is an amazing professor who genuinely loves the material. He makes Art History very interesting and fun. He's just a very nice, chill, down to earth guy. I would take him again in a heartbeat. Someone who finally makes history interesting! Also makes me want to take his study abroad section in Italy over the summer. Such a cool and smart guy!
Seriously the coolest professor at FIT. Of course it's lecture-heavy, but what do you expect in an art history class? Prof. Laird breaks down everything so that it's easy to understand and he doesn't force you to memorize every single tiny detail. Makes history interesting. He's very open to questions and chatting after class too. A+++
I LOVE THIS MAN!!! He is truly so inspiring and makes the topic so interesting, I don't get how people aren't entertained by him he is so knowledgable. As far as grading goes, if you pay attention and take notes your good!! You retain all the info well from the lectures because it is memorable. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
I love him. He's so smart and makes me consider taking more art history classes for fun! It is lecture heavy but it is so interesting and the opposite of boring. If your finding a teacher for HA112 just add his class right now you wont regret it
Very interesting prof. I was dreading this course bc I didn't want to take it. But, he's very knowledgeable. Write down everything he says bc he goes fast and doesn't like repeating himself. Quizes were only 15 min, it's way too short. Midterm + Final are difficult memorize the paintings or you'll fail- not joking. Participate or it'll be awkward.
lecture heavy which is fine, except its heavy on religion. ive taken art history before and there was never sm religion involved. i wish he would vary topics, this isnt a religion class. its hard to focus&understand. not reachable on weekends, but everything is in the syllabus anyway. lots of memorization and terms. its a fine class tho, hes nice
Professor Chad is by far the best professor I had at FIT. He makes the subject very interesting and conveys the information very well.
Easy assignments & not that many. Really nice guy.
Nice and chill professor but you MUST pay attention and write notes every lecture. The notes are extremely important for the quizzes and midterm/final. You can basically reword the notes and you get a perfect grade. Theres also no homework! Quizzes are every 3 weeks or so which just ask you to describe a painting and the elements/time period.
A sophisticated gent with great knowledge, treats equally w/out being biased leaves no room to say neg abt him Paying attn is ipm than taking notes he drills things in our heads it remains vivid He gave me a new dir of looking at architecture dif n a fresh perspective on things His thirst for students' growth & expanding creative knol is admirable
Respectfully and professionally, I love this man. I was excited about this program, but Chad made me even more excited to dive into the world that is museums. My only advice is to read the readings and be sure you understand them thoroughly and take detailed notes during his lectures. He's also super passionate and very clear on content.
I have Chad for Western Art History and his class is enjoyable. He's a knowledgeable professor that engages with his students; his love for art history is shown in his lectures and the way he teaches. Taking notes in his class is very important, the quizzes and midterm are based on your notes so make sure to listen and write it down. Great class.
Great professor, super cool and laid back... but definitely lecture heavy. Chad is extremely knowledgeable, but sometimes it can feel overwhelming. There's a lot of terms, and just overall a hard class. Make sure you take extensive notes and always show up for class. He also never answers his emails and takes forever to grade assignments.
Chad is an amazing professor. I learned more in his class than I ever have at FIT period. His class is more about teaching you and discussions more than the grades. We had four papers and he takes a while to grade, but I don't mind because that's not what his class is about. He just wants you to comfortably talk about concepts and learn. Best ever!
objectively, he's a good teacher. if you care about art history (which most people dont) and are good at sitting in a room for 3 hours and paying attention, by all means i would recommend. if you have attention problems do not take this class. he knows what he's talking and cares about it but there are like 5 total assignments and its just lectures
My favorite professor I've ever had. He knows what he is talking about and is very passionate about art. I love art history so sitting through this class is easy, but for some it may be difficult; it is not for everyone. The quizzes are typical for art history and require you to study up, but you'll be fine if you took notes. Definitely study.
Be ready to take notes on absolutely every word he says, it's vital to succeeding. Memorize the artworks names/creators/time period because identifying them is on the quizzes/tests. I wish he used slides or wrote on the board more, it was hard to know what was important to write and what wasn't. He's smart and chill, he likes when you participate.
Get ready to take notes on every single word he says, there are no slides and if you skip class you won't pass. Quizzes are intimidating, must memorize every single artwork and there are 15 minute handwritten essays. Grading criteria isn't clear. Textbook is just a bunch of articles (money saver!) He's chill but you have to work to get a good grade
He is very knowledgeable about the subject. He talks the whole time but its confusing on what to take notes on. Most students are taking this for credit so its hard to pay attention but paying attention and studying will help you get a good grade. Very nice and sometimes funny. Easy grader.. studying hard the day before will make you pass tbh.
I have no idea how this man holds so much knowledge inside of his brain, but it certainly makes for interesting lectures. Very accepting of people's preferred names and pronouns. He references LGBTQ topics in his lectures as well. You'll learn not just about the art, but the historical context behind it as well.
Hands down the best professor I've had so far at FIT. He has so much knowledge and infectious passion during his lectures that even topics I couldn't care less about would probably seem interesting if he was teaching them. You'll get the most out of his class if you engage with him. Don't hold back on your thoughts. Awesome guy!
Genuinely one of the best professors I've ever had at FIT. He's caring and wants you to succeed. You have to show up and pay attention if you want to pass. He puts artworks on screen and talks, no bullet points, no uploaded Powerpoints, nothing. Graded on a few things, but he gives very clear feedback. Knowledgeable and can answer any questions.
Prof Laird is amaze. He's truly so smart - I don't think I've ever learned so much about a topic I knew literally nothing about beforehand (and in only a few months.) You'll feel more of a connection with him if you participate, and this isn't asking much as basically the whole class is a long conversation. Would highly recommend!!
Such a great professor! Didn't know much about horror movies or horror in general but he explains all the info clearly. There is a lot of new readings each week that goes with each movie and he expects you to read it. He's very funny and understanding. This class was probably one of the best classes I have taken at FIT!
he's a really great professor, he just does get boring after a while. he doesn't go the full class time which is pretty good. very little assignments, we had 2 quizzes and midterm and final. he's really caring and wants to see you succeed he just gets boring after a while.
I honestly loved Professor Laird! I am definitely not an art history student so I found this class slightly boring but Professor Laird explains everything extremely well. His lectures can get boring and he usually goes on for the full 3 hours but he is very knowledgeable and tries his best to keep the class engaged.
Chad is amazing! I had him online on top of many major classes and his class is not a burden at all! He responds very quickly and is always there to help. There is always some work to do but it's not overwhelming. It's like he knows that we have more important classes and projects to take care of! If you can, definitely take him!
Chad's lectures are packed with art history insights, though note-taking is essential. The quizzes and essays require memorization, but unstuck AI can help with study prep. If you engage with the material, you'll learn a lot, despite the workload.
Prof. Laird is an excellent instructor. He is super easy to listen to and gives great lectures. I found his exams to be simple (compared to previous art history courses I have taken that required a lot of memorization), just be sure to pay attention and do the assigned reading. He's very nice and I highly recommend!
very few things graded on, makes it difficult to improve. kind of wish I didn't take this course because I was pretty unprepared
