He is the coolest teacher ever! I hated history before taking this class. But he made the class so interesting. You do have to take a lot of notes but the quizzes and tests are easy. It is almost impossible to fail his class. The first day may sound hard but its not! I got an A- in the class.

Chad class was really easy! I hate history so much, and I really ejoyed his class. I got a B+ in the class. I got really sick with mono, and was not able to attend class for about 1/2 the sem, however he still let me make up my work, and really worked with me. Awesome Teacher, take his class!!!!!!

I had taken this class before, but got an F, and took it with this prof over the summer. Well, I did much better than before! We had to turn in 5 papers over the term, but they were 1-2 pages in length, and he allowed us to turn all of them in a few days before the term ended.

If you are not in Chad Ostlers Hist 1700 already, drop whatever hist 1700 class you're in and take it from him. Class is SO MUCH fun, I would take his class again and again if I could afford to. He is one of THE BEST teachers at UVSC, hands down.

i took chad for american civ and he was such a great teacher. i only had him once a week for 2.5 hours and i only got bored 1 time the whole semester and that was my fault. he makes is so interesting for every, great sense of humor. dont need text book but required takaki book for a report, but he gives you all sem. Wow, this guy is the best teacher I've ever had. Makes history interesting for you. His tests are pretty difficult. You only use the book to complete weekly "test questions" from the textbook in which you write yourself. Another book is required and you have to write a 2 papers from it. Not super easy, but you will learn a lot!

This was my second class with Ostler and they were both equally incredible. You would be crazy to take Hist 1700 or 2700 from anyone but him. Chad Ostler is an amazing instructor. I've attended two universities in different states, have 80 credits under my belt, and Chad is the best instructor I've ever had. Each class is like storytime. You come in, you sit down, and you listen to him weave amazingly connected stories of US history. He's a hilarious guy and likes to entertain the class.

Attendance is required to do well in his class, but every class period seemed to fly by because of how interested I was in the topic! Chad make you excited to go to class. He makes it fun. There is a lot of information, what can you expect, but he helps you know what could be on the test. Note you will have to read a 300 page book for one assignment but the paper is broad and you can write it however you want. Other homework is pass/fail.

This class only had a few assignments-- all papers. There are two textbooks required for this class and your cannot do the assignments without them. Professor Ostler is a nice guy and sometimes cracks jokes in class but his lectures can be a little dry sometimes. Overall, pretty easy class and if I had to take it again I would take it from him.

Honestly one of the best educational experiences I've ever had happened during the first day of class. I was listening to his explination to the rise of slavery, the factors t hat went in to it, as was pretty much enthralled the entire time. He's got a way of teaching in a very informative, engaging way.

Chad was the funniest professor I have ever taken. His lectures are extremely heavy and there is a lot of information. You must take detailed notes and make sure you understand the info. Tests are online but they are timed and there is homework every week. I would take him again but would definitely take better notes and study the textbook.

Ostler gives amazing lectures! He writes down key points as he lectures which makes note-taking easier. Only one assignment due every week, along with one midterm essay (the hardest assignment), one book reflection essay, and the final (essay like the midterm but graded easier). Very lecture heavy so missing a class can hurt your learning. Textbook is necessary as you use almost all the primary resources it contains for Document Analysis'. Although it can seem like a lot of essay writing he is lenient with them (except for midterm and final, be sure to be as perfect as you can). He tells history as stories.

Taking a class from Chad is one of the best decisions you can make at UVU. His lectures are amazing and so easy to follow along. This is no easy class in the sense that you can get an A without effort. There are about 15 essays all combined homework and midterm/final but he is not a tough grader. If you value learning, Chad won't let you down.

Professor Ostler's HIST2700 class is a must-take. His lectures are engaging and he brings history to life. The workload is manageable, and resources like the textbook and unstuck AI make studying a breeze. Definitely take this class if you can!

best teacher I've ever had but hardest grader too. I'm a 4.0 student before this class and ended up getting a C. he really cares about the topic and really helps you to understand it. only issue with him is he's one of those teachers that gives 90% for a perfectly good answer and will only give 100% on answers that go above and beyond.

Excellent professor, funny, knows his stuff, tells history like a story and doesn't make you memorize dates, just the important events and themes and how its all connected. LOTS of writing in this class, so don't take it if you hate writing. If you show up and take good notes to study from, you'll do fine on tests. Do papers in advance, too. 10/10!
