Rector is a great teacher; he makes any subject interesting, easy to understand, and at times humerous. Alot of reading is required, but his curved grading scale allows you to do well be skimming. He has young TA's who are usually easy graders so the class average is lifted. If you are interested in Poli. Sci., you will do well in this course.

Grading is designed to obfuscate knowledge; professor is an idiot. Lectures are worthless, pain to go to - and you must go, due to "Random" pop quizzes. Rector would like to be about ten years older and ten years more respected. Grades everyone to fail and then promotes everyone to a B-. No motivation to do well.

Professor is a flaming idiot. Average grade on all assignments is a 50% but curves to either a B- or a C+ depending on what he feels - yes this is what he says. Won't help with material bc he does not write exams till the night before. Is not widely published does not do reasearch. Basically a failure at life - avoid Chad Rector at all costs.

To say that Prof. Rector is an "idiot" is too harsh. Grading is tough and definitely hope for a good TA. They are who actually grade your papers. Don't count on the readings to get you through. Write down everything he says in lecture and study them til you pass out. A good class - don't hesitate to take it if you're willing to do the work.

I thought Intro classes were supposed to be easy, or at least not life ruining. Turns out I never had Chad Rector before! Lectures weren't bad, but quizzes--which he says will be easy if you do the reading--ask things like what the chart on page 47 was about. Tests--impossible. Class avg was like a 65 before a curve that was not nearly high enough.

First off, his book is terribly written and he makes you buy it for $25. Second, he makes an otherwise interesting class too based on his own desire to entertain kids and show off his wit. It gets really tedious and obnoxious, especially when he is not hesitant to grade like a hardass.

Professor Rector is not only annoying and full of himself, he has no reason to be. I doubt I will retain any concepts that he taught me and I am glad that I will never make the mistake of taking a Rector class again. The readings were unbearable for an intro class and his pop quizzes on them were worthless. DO NOT TAKE!

Part of the reason why Rector has been getting so much negative feedback is the fact that his class relies on your own analysis of big concepts. To do well you have to grasp the big picture and also have a good relationship with your TA, who grades all of your work in the course. Challenging, but not as difficult as other reviews may imply.

Great lecturer and interesting subject, but the insane grading scheme almost gave me an aneurysm. The TA seems to grade you based on a secret rubric that you are never informed of. Monstrous curve though. Great reading list (with the notable exception of Rector's book). Overall probably too difficult for a intro class but still an interesting class

do not take a class from him, especially if you are not a freshman, you'll want to storm out of class every time. he'll insult your intelligence, he thinks every student is hanging on his every word & that he is so fascinating & funny, & because he teaches usually freshman who are excited to be in college, this idea of himself is only reinforced.

Attendance is not mandatory but he is a really engaging lecturer. v funny and clever. He wasn't that hard of a grader on the two tests and one paper that we had. I went to every class and didn't do the majority of the readings and came out with a B+. definitely worth taking with him if you have an interest in international orgs.

I took this class founds a Freshman and at first it difficult. Luckily the curve is very generous and it isn't hard to do well. The lectures are very humorous and Rector really knows his stuff. Worth taking especially if you already are interested in the topic. Quizzes are super easy and most of the readings are actually pretty interesting.

Let's tell the truth: this class isn't difficult. Skim the readings, go to lecture, use the vocabulary and concepts from lecture in your essays and on written exams, develop a good relationship with your TA, and don't get freaked out by the weird grading. If you do that, there's no way you can come away with less than a B+.

Rector is an excellent lecturer: he's informative and entertaining. This is not a class you can skip, since the coherency of the cource centers around the lectures, not the textbook. Rector does assign a lot of readings, and you have to keep on top of it to do well! The grading scheme is a little weird but overall seems fair. PSC3 is worth taking!

Rector's pretty full of himself, but he's an alright professor. He's funny and really into all the topics. However, your ENTIRE class experience/grade depends solely on what TA you get. All papers, exams, and attendance are graded by your TA. I had an awful TA, so discussions were miserable and papers were impossible.

Rector is a nice guy and a pretty interesting lecturer. He will assign 80+ pages for the next class regularly. NO ONE READS. On the exams, he makes it too hard so it is impossible to finish it well. So no one does well. Good Curve. If you have to take this try to avoid rector but if you have to take it with him, it's not the end of the world.

Prof. Rector is an awesome teacher. He's knowledgeable, has a really effective teaching style, and never fails to be entertaining. I definitely got a lot out of PSC3 with him. Like many of the other comments reflect, his tests/assignments are challenging, but he curves accordingly.

Rector's class is awful but everyone has to take it. Rector really is full of himself and your TA will make or break you. My TA was a ridiculously hard grader and I recommend taking this class in a smaller setting. The papers and exams are either graded on a secret rubric or at the TA's disgression and this is not what you want. Avoid this class.

This class is ridiculous for an introductory level class. The lectures are entertaining, and rector knows a lot. However, your TA really determines your grade. I had Medlir, who is extremely difficult and grades on a secret agenda. This class brought down my GPA tremendously. DONT TAKE IT. (even though its required for political science majors

Prof rector is entertaining and knows a lot. You know that he is in character during lecture but it keeps class interesting. Your grade completely depends on your TA and I had Kerry and she was great! Huge curve in the class and don't get discouraged after your first paper, you go up from there.

Rector is a great lecturer, he's entertaining and very clear. Joey is a very good TA. For the essays, you can come up with whatever prediction you want to, as long as your analysis is correct. The reading is a bit tedious, but most of it is interesting. A challenging, but fun course.

Rector's class really isn't that bad. He's an entertaining lecturer, which is really something you should be looking for in a huge intro class like PSC003. Grades during the semester are very harsh, but keep in mind that there's a huge curve (he gave A's to anything above a 70 this semester).

Great professor. My favorite class by far. He's funny and keeps lectures crystal clear. TA's are great if you have any trouble with the material (which is fairly straightforward) There's a lot of reading but if you understand the major points you don't need to do it all. If you're a good writer, you'll do well on the papers. Take this class!

It is sad how hard he tries to be funny when he really isn't - and don't let his seemingly easygoing nature fool you - he is a harsh grader and the tests were all very tricky and complicated - do not take his class at all
