Down to earth instructor.
Really nice teacher, with his cool coments. He knows his stuff.
this guy is a genious and great teacher but he's very quirky. Take any class with Dr sprouse you can, there is none better at that school!!! He's tough but fair. I took his class twice because I got a D. Don't expect to eek by. You get what you get.
Very nice teacher and he curves.
Awesome Teacher. Everything made perfect sense to me the way he taught it. A little quirky, but geniuslike. Not an easy A, I learned the material well and didn't stress the workload. Learning made Easy
Yay Dr. Sprouse! I took his class more than a year ago. In response to the comment below: who cares what he wear and where he looks. Go to class, pay attention and you will do fine. Good teacher.
The greatest math teacher! He strolls in with no notes; just lectures from his head. He truly loves math and loves teaching it. Gives lots of h/w but do it and pay attention in class and you'll do good. Take him if possible!
He is the best math teacher I've taken at csun. I took him for 150a, I took him for 150b and I am planning to take him for 280. The one thing that I like about him is that he cuts out all of the B.S. and gets to the point. If you don't take him you will regret it.
Don't even think of taking someone else. Take him if his class fits into your schedule. You will not regret your final grade if you do good on final.
I have no doubt in my mind that sprouse is the greatest math professor in CSUN. There's just nobody that cuts through the mess and presents such a hard subject so easily like him. Very weird too, though in a funny way. Take his class. It'll change your perspective on science and math in general. :p

He is so cool. He is so good. Teaching so well. He is one of the the best math teachers in CSUN. He gives us many tests so that we can drop the lowest 2 or 3. The problem he is rarely on time. Most of the time he is late. Anyways, he gave us good hw problems. He sometimes forgot to collect them on time. He explain everything in class. Excellent!
chad always looked like he was tired but cracked some jokes here and there.classes are quick and fun 35 min long.lenient grader and teaches clearly.if you could take him make sure you do.
Amazing professor. Knows what he is talking about and is very helpful. He also has a good curve.
He is very helpful. If you missed something in class you can ask him about it at his office. He has an engineering degree, so he knows what math is used in real world applications. He's the best Math teacher at CSUN
One of the best math teachers I have ever had. Great Teacher!
really good professor at CSUN...he tends to speak more to the board or the ground, but his teaching methods are work...the homework is a little time consuming, but you tend to get the hand of things...he's also funny...he tends to throw a few curse words in the lecture just to keep the students up...
This guy is amazing. I manage my schedule so I can fit him in the following semester. He is the best math teacher I have had. He is willing to help you out. People may think that he is a little quirky but in the end he is a swell guy. If you want to learn and have a few laughs take his class. You won't regret it. Good ol' Chad!
Chad brings to Math a sense of humor and style of teaching not practiced by the Math faculty. He presents focused, precise and succinct solutions to problems that are still explained in archaic ways in Calculus texts. He assigns a lot of hw, but is flexible w.r.t. to collecting it. Try to solve all problems, speak up in class, and you will do well.
He was very intimidating to me at first, nd that there was no way i would pass his class cuz he was crazy. but as the semester moved on i realized i was wrong nd that he knows how to teach math. I ended up with a C in the class.
Very confusing class, but he makes it lots of fun. You'll be intimitated at first, but he is an overall great teacher and person. Very helpful. He is highly recommended.
This is a pretty chill class. Just do the hw & study from your written notes & notes from the book. He curves quite fair (depending on the overall class). He tells you what you should expect on the midterms & final exam. He really wants everyone to pass the class, but you have to try. So, do not slack off on the attendance, hw, & studying.
Chad the man is awesome. Makes math fun and is quite funny at times. Good math professor imo.
Hate his teaching. Lectures are bad. He is fair, but his teaching will not help u pass the class, not even the book.
4 Midterms, ~5 quizzes, 1 COMMON final. Drops lowest Midterm AND quiz! Lienient grader, funny, yet quite quirky! He can't keep eye contact. He tries hard to help you. The webwork is hard though, but he's generous with postponing the deadlines. Just go to class and do the webwork, you'll do fine.
Chad is by far the best math teacher I have ever had at CSUN. He wrote his own text for the class which was great. His lectures are crystal clear and thorough. He is extremely helpful in his office hours. He has a way of communicating the material that is little seen in mathmatics profs. Be Sure to take him!!!!!
Very good teacher. Explains exactly what you need to know and in a way that is easy to understand. I will definitely recomend him for any math class.
He's cool. Kinda hilarious especially he's a PacMan expert. He'll mentioned a lot about Pac Man and Ultimate 4 if you bring it up. Yet, he does not look at the class and he drinks coffee while he lectures.
Disregard other comments from people, I took him because I read good things about him, but now I regret it. He has no specific book that we can follow and he says he doesn't give the homework solution at the end. Don't take him if you want to understand the subject. Trust my comments.
i dont know why hes a high demando prof. hes super boring. not funny. well stupid funny. throws chalk when frustrated. rushes through material. has sample test which are NOTHING like real test. real tests are much harder, but supposedly hw based. after a full semester, i stil dont know why people think hes such a good prof...
Prof. Sprouse is quirky but likeable. Tests and homework are hard, but he is willing to work with you one-on-one, and grades fairly.
very hard grader and his homework take more than it deserves. if you want to pass his class you should do all his home work and memorize them
He will tell you what's going to be on the test. If you study what he says, you will get an easy A. People who complain about him must be people who want to get easy A without any effort. Tests are very easy if you fully understand homeworks which are not that hard. Go take him.
I thought he was the worst professor I have had. All semester long he just threw out definitions and doesn't explain what they are just says that definition. He also address students properly(makes no eye contact) and therefore never moves from the board to take notes. practice tests are nothing like practice tests.
Really hard to comprehend in class. His tests are curved but his explanations on material not that helpful. Does not go over tests since they are based off homework. Gets annoyed at times when asked questions about what he is writing down on the board. Good thing - he gives candy to class for halloween & pumpkin bread for thanksgiving.
Incredibly smart, and funny if you take to his style of humor. Cares deeply about his student's learning. Always willing to work one on one with students whenever he is in his office. Grades fairly and objectively. Provides ample homework. Often provides insight that the text book does not. Easily one of the best math teachers I've ever had.
He is very willing to work with you one on one. He also tries his best to explain concepts which may or may not be hard to grasp depending on the individual. Accessible via email. Chosen textbook wasn't very helpful and there're errors. However, simply study hard on materials he said he's gonna give on exam, then you should get an A.
Nice guy in general. Acts disorganized and unsure but i think it's just to be funny. Makes lots of mistakes, but he knows exactly what he is teaching and explains material well. Doesn't give too much homework and tests aren't very hard. Almost ALWAYS walks in late, so that gives you extra time to get to class.
If you can, AVOID Chad for Calc I. Doesn't explain things well and goes way too fast to understand, plus he gets to close to the board so its hard to see what he is writing. Overall, he is probably not a teacher to take for Calc I.
Hard tests, doesn't really explain what is going to be on the them. Goes over the material very quickly and doesn't make sense sometimes. He is a nice guy, but a hard teacher. He does give ALOT of partial credit on tests which helps. He does try to help you out if you need the help.
Well, at first he seemed very weird, but as time goes by, I started to love him! One of the best math professors at CSUN. He does not care about the algebra once you get the procedures right, which it is nice!!!! (Nowadays no one does math w their bare hands..EVERYONE use math program) You should take him..!
Has to be one of my favorite math teachers at CSUN. Took him for 262 and 280. Very clear on what you need to pass. Every bit of what he says will be on the test, will be on the test. only one thing, DO YOUR HW! Easy A and he grades very easy. (As long as you do your HW)
So last semester I took sprouse for 150A. I didn't like the way he taught 150A at all...but I still took him for 150B for following semester. To my surprise, he taught almost everything in 150b REALLY WELL. If you can take him for 150b then do it! He acts weird but he means well so don't be afraid to ask him questions :D
Awkward but nice guy. If you DO THE HOMEWORK and -understand- it you will ace the tests. I have never gotten an A on a math test or in a math class before and in his class i did BOTH! You have to be willing to study hard for it though, the subject matter is tough! Shows up late and lectures are fast paced.
TAke him you wont regret it. If you do your hw and go to his office hours you should get an A if u don't there's something seriously wrong with you. Nobody should get anything other than an A in his class.
Go to class, do the hw ask questions, memorize proofs and you'll knock it out of the park. This is pretty nice considering its a calculus class. Hes a nice guy, no eye contact but kinda funny and more than willing to help as long as you ask.
Learn the proofs he writes on the board because they come up A LOT, he even tells you, memorize them! he gives 5-7 tests, some are a bit more difficult then others but are not too bad and filled with general questions, usually identical to the hw. He's an extremely nice guy, and very generous with his grading.
Awesome professor. You need to show up to class because that's where you find out everything that will be on the test. Do the HW, study notes and you should pass without a problem. I'm not the best at math but he made it a lot easier to understand.
He's cool. The class is involved to say the least, but I loved it ! If you like math you'll enjoy the challenge, and find it fun in a sense. He will answer emails about hw, trust me I know. He grades fair, and you generally will get out of it what you put into it. Would take a class from him again in a heartbeat.
Cool professor, will make jokes every so often. He knows his stuff too well - he goes fast during his lecture but will answer any questions you have. Brings 2 coffees with him, will both be empty by end of class. Office hours held at coffee shop. He will curve the grades if needed, so dont stress out too much. Tests are easy if you study.
There are two sides to this, if you love math and are good at it, then you will like this professor. He teaches the course as if everyone is a math major. If you are only ok at math and are just hoping to pass the class, then you will have to work hard. Make sure to do all of the hw and plan to make his office hrs your 2nd home for the semester.
Complete total self-righteous, "I'm better than you" attitude, filled human being. Consulted his office for advise, should've known better. All responses were filled with attitude. Really discouraging as a professor. Why is this guy still a teacher at CSUN. I would avoid at all costs.
Calculus 2 is a tough class and it's really hard to find a professor who can teach it as well he can. He is knowledgeable, and he actually has a great sense of humor! He will pause the lecture if you have any questions. He CAN be pretty intimidating, but he does care. His lectures can go pretty fast, but he is always there for office hours!
He's very smart, doesn't do eye contact, and was always at his office hours every time I had a question. I definitely had to study a lot for his class and find other textbooks. The textbook is really just a bound and cleaned up version of his notes. His lectures can be a little fast paced. Hw was not given every class meeting but was quite lengthy.
I do not know how other people rating him do not mention how he hates questions in class . In my class people would ask legit questions and he would scream at them. In multiple cases this would happen. My classmates would rarely ask questions because of this. I mean that is there job, they are getting paid to teach, not make them feel stupid.
Overall he made the class ten times more difficult than it is suppose to be. He covers every single topic and expects you to know everything perfectly. Get ready to visit him at every office hour he has. You have to enjoy math to pass. He does have the worst attitude, Does not make eye contact and is not very approachable.
His personal textbook is terrible. Some pages are literally half-written, he doesn't stick to it either. He doesn't go by a book which is difficult for those of us who learn better through reading than copying off the chalkboard. HEAVY homework load (avoid him if you can). This is a plug and chug class - entirely. Memorization success
If you just do everything he says, you will get a good grade. I'm not even joking. The homework questions are literally his test questions, the numbers are just changed around a bit. Most of my classmates had a bad grade because they didn't do homework and ditched class half the time. In my opinion, he's a great professor and he's a really nice guy
He is a tough grader and lectures are quite long and confusing sometimes. He doesn't give us time to ask questions nor like to answer them either. He gets frustrated when we ask something that he already repeated. Make sure you understand and study well in order to pass the class!
Quite a Solid Teacher. Fair Grader, but he expects you to know your stuff. Goes pretty fast tho so make you sure you brush up on your algebra. A little bit lousy at noticing questions during lectures, but happy to help any time. Definitely worth taking.
This man is tough!!! But he does have a heart. In the beginning he is a bit mean, but it's an act. He will help you. He has a touch of aspergers, he NEVER looks you in the eye. He knows his stuff. Calculus is hard, but this guy will help you.
My favorite part of this class was that he spent time to write his own homework problems and print them for the class instead of assigning from the text :) If you understand and complete the homework assignments you will be good for the exam, so dont procrastinate hw. Homework is graded on complete/not-complete; not if you have the right answer.
Prof. Sprouse is awesome! If you have to take 250 he's the one to take it with. He gives really good lectures so take good notes, and do every single problem assigned on the homework and you will get a great grade on the test. He's really caring and incredibly intelligent. Don't be fooled by the first day of class, he's very approachable.
He comes off as a very tough professor who hates cheating and hates cheaters even more; and he is very tough with cheating. However he cares about your success and gives you many opportunities to WORK for an A. It is an easy A if you pay attention, do all the practice exams, and even study the book he "Requires". Lot of time for a great grade.
Best professor I've ever had. He's incredibly expressive and loud, so he makes it impossible for you to not pay attention to his lectures. Amazing lectures, writes exactly what we need to memorize; he is very clear about what you'll need to know for tests. Just do what he says, review your notes, and you'll pass.
He can be very difficult to get used to. Not your typical CSUN professor. Class was super hard and tests are MUCH heavier than his sample exams. I can't say he is bad. But don't take him if you have too many units. He expects way more from you than your average math class. Seriously study hard for it and you will pass this class.
He would seem tough and intimidating, and he is but he gives out a lot of chance to get a decent grade.
I have never met a professor whose as terrible as Chad. I REGRET the day I learned of his name and took his class. Goes WAY to fast, yells, throws chalk, and doesn't EXPLAIN his steps. He just solves. You can not follow what he does from one step to another. DON'T LISTEN TO THE OTHER REVIEWS! Consider this your first and final warning. RUN FAR AWAY
Prof. Chad made the class easy to understand you juts have to pay attention in class. There are homework due every Monday. Make sure that you do them because it helps you understand the class more. He also gives you a list of problems from the book that you should study for the quizzes and tests. Study those carefully and you'll be good.
Pretty chill math professor but his tests can get pretty difficult! BUT I would highly recommend him. He's pretty hard at first but you'll eventually get used to him! If you do well on the final he will drop an exam!
Book was horrible. It is an undergraduate class on modeling, but he teaches it like it was a graduate level class. Very little help in office hours. If you go to ask for help on a problem you do not know how to do, he will say, "You do it." And there are like 10 out 12 problems on the Homework that ppl do not know how to do... Not clear on exams...
He is a very knowledgeable and kind professor. The material was hard, but I got a lot of help in office hours.
He was 15 min late to two of the four exams. His grading relies on quizzes and exams. The quizzes are accounted in the exam grade. He grades the quizzes by giving a 0 whenever he can but the exams he gives partial credit. This gives him a loophole to give you 0's while saying "I gave all the partial credit I could" Watch out.
Professor Chadwick is THE best math professor I have ever had. His exams are of no surprise. If you do all the homework you should be okay for the exams. In no way is this an easy class. It's a lot of work but he truly does get to help you and he is very approachable. Again, you MUST do the homework in order to get a good grade.
Professor Sprouse is excellent. His published notes are the textbook for the class and the lectures follow the lessons from the notes. Weekly graded HW is substantial, but he doesn't penalize late work. Pop quizzes to enforce attendance, but he tells you the questions and solutions on quiz days. Tests are tough but fair. Well defined expectations.
He is very easy to communicate with. Chad is an excellent professor and you will learn a lot from him. I highly recommend him.
Best Math Professor I've ever had. He does have a unique style but I think that's part of the reason he is so good. Really fair when it comes to grading and sticking to textbook examples and problem sets. I honestly enjoyed his classes.
Amazing professor, amazing class. Just remember to do your homework and study for the exams and you will pass easily. If you have any questions just ask him and his office hours are also pretty great.
Chad is the man! Extremely caring and funny. Really wants to pass everyone, but also wants his students to actually learn the material. Good notes in class really help on the long and difficult homeworks. Has great stories about his real experience with nature. Start HW early (they're so long), and go to his office hours with questions!
He's got good lectures and he's a funny guy. Sometimes he'll go on rants and yell a bit but rightfully so. He literally tells you what will be on the test and goes above and beyond to help you learn the material and pass. I would recommend him, homework can be a bit long but it's usually for a good reason. Tests are fair and doable, no tricks here.
Good Lecturer, meh professor. Shows up late to almost every class, sometimes 15-30 minutes late, holds students back 5-10 minutes after class should have ended, has been late to ALL of our exam days (5-15 min). Other than, tough but fair professor. Just pay attention, do the homework (THOROUGHLY), and do the practice exams, and you WILL pass !
His class is very fair and as long as you pay attention in class and do the homework that he assigns weekly, you will succeed. He has practice tests (past exams) for you to prepare and he has his own textbook which he created himself which is available online for free. Overall very good professor.
Proffesor Sprouse means well and his lecture style meshes well with some students in particular, however I really stuggled in his differentials course despite spending numerous hours studying and solving the homework myself.
This class is for you if you have good study habits. The homework is long but if you learn as you are doing it you will be fine. He tells you what is on the test and provides optional practice exams to take(DO THEM). Its a simple class just show up do the homework and you will pass. He is also funny.
Chad is an amazing professor. MTH280 class is a hard class to pass you will need to study hard and ask the professor any questions you have. and I highly recommend to go to office hours time
Genuinely one of the best professors out there in CSUN's math department. You need to do the hw. The homework and the exam are similar. On top of that, he also tells you what topics could be on the exam. Sometimes he goes on a long rant and he's also late to most lectures but, it's the Chad charm.
Really smart and has good lectures. He's kind of weird and unapproachable but it's entertaining, which is why I kept going to lectures. READ THE NOTES HE WROTE (it's basically an online textbook). It's super useful. Also, DO THE HOMEWORK. Barely studied, just did the homework, and that was enough for me to do well on the tests.
