It is important to work through the data sets with him in class to improve your understanding. The class is very individually focused.
Goes a little fast at times, but you just have to ask for him to slow down. One pretty long weekly assignment, graded quickly. Very nice and always willing to talk and will call you to explain things. No textbook which is great, but the final is based off the very long slides.
Professor Storlie is a charismatic and caring prof! Needs a little more structure to his courses. Hes always open to answer and questions people have. Sometimes can go a little off track. His power point slides are incredibly long and says that those are his textbook. Very accommodating!! Make sure you know excel very well before you take his clas
For Chad's class, what you put in is what you get out. There is one long assignment due every week, but you work through a good amount in class. This is a great class to boost your excel skills and work with real data sets. He can go pretty fast sometimes though, so if you aren't keeping up it is important to ask him to slow down.
Learned a lot about excel and how to find insight with data!! Worthwhile class to take.
At first I was worried about the workload, because we were supposed to make slides for marketing issues. The first slides did take me some time, but Chad gave us feedback quickly, and I felt very encouraged and did my second and third homework much more quickly. He is never a tough grader and is always one call away when you have some problems.
Professer Storlie's lectures are very engaging and you can tell that he really cares about our learning. Even though the course at time can a bit challenging, he is more than willing to help! As long as you pay attention during lectures and in-class exercises, you will do well in the class. Definitely one of my favorite professors!
Very informative and interesting guy. Could be slightly more in depth when explaining projects or homework. Grades fairly and provides a exciting class atmosphere. Definitely would take another class with Chad.
Keeps lectures interesting through continuous engagement with students. Always accessible and willing to help when needed. Would definitely take another one of his classes.
Chadwick is a very engaging and funny professor. Sometimes he can go a little fast in class when working on Excel, but he compensates for it by sending out the sheet he worked on after class. He does cold call on students, so always be ready to answer questions! Overall, he is a great guy and a very helpful professor.
Chad is an engaging professor that is truly eager to help students out! Always available for questions/assistance. Assignments seem challenging at first but he walks through the data sets and gives us a nice start. Very individualized and encourages creativity and thought-provoking analysis. Be prepared to focus and engage in lectures! No textbook.
Professor Storlie is a passionate professor and really cares about his students. He's a forgiving grader, almost too easy. Unfortunately it's easy to get by without actually learning, but for people that only care about grades he is perfect. Make sure to ask questions or he'll assume that you know.
Chad is a very good teacher and always is accessible by email. He also grades very quickly and gives good feedback.
The professors make sure that no student falls behind. If you put in the work and attend class, you should be fine.
He obviously knows what he's doing but doesn't take the time to make sure students are following. The first assignment was very hard since I didn't have an amazing background in excel but after doing them a few times i knew what to do. Overall I understood that since it was an added section he may not have been totally prepared. Be ready to work.
I thought the lectures were super interesting. The class was graded off of a few decent sized assignments as well as a final. The only "readings" would be to read over all the powerpoints before the final. For me the assignment rubrics were pretty vague and it was hard to see what he actually wanted, but as long as you go above and beyond its good.
The class is excel heavy, and I had no experience in it before taking the class. The first couple weeks were very hard with no experience, but after I talked with him on the phone a few times he helped walk me through any problem I was having with the assignments.
Stolie is very passionate about teaching. The class started way too fast and a lot of people considered/did drop. However, he realized he needed to reduce his expectations and be more clear. The projects take a long time and are hard so be prepared to put in time for this class. Also have knowledge on excel, ask questions, and utilize the TA.
Super engaging lectures that are split up nicely between content learning and working through the Excel homework to make sure people understand what is going on. Very accessible outside of class and is willing to talk on the phone with you if you have questions. Cares about the students' success and always looks for ways to improve.
Great guy, super caring. Genuinely wants everybody to succeed!
Chad is a really great professor, super caring and wants to make sure you learn. If you have any trouble, ask questions and he will help clear things up. You get to learn a lot about excel very quickly and Chad goes through the functions in class to help make the homework easier.
If I had to describe Chad in a few sentences I would say that he is a tough but caring professor. He's a guy who, although you become annoyed with if you get stuck or fall behind, is extremely helpful and cooperative. His only goal is to prep you for your future career. He's much more of a "cool boss" than a professor.
Chadwick cares more about students learning than the curriculum. He showed this several times in the semester where he shortened assignments or lightened the course work to ensure we were actively engaged instead of completing busy work. This class Is a good place to start analytics and getting used to Excel.
I'm glad I had Chad for MKTG 3005. He's a good speaker and tries to encourage class participation. He tries to break his classes into different components, which includes excel walkthroughs, presenting new content and videos. My only complaint is that it was not always clear what was expected of us for assessment tasks.
Chad is an awesome instructor that really takes time inside and outside class to make sure you understand concepts. The homework can be tedious and make sure you have an understanding of Excel before taking the class, but overall, he is incredibly patient and makes the class time engaging through his funny lectures and work time for any questions
One of the most helpful classes that I have taken in college. Work load can seem challenging, but Chad is incredibly approachable and easy to reach for outside of class help. The class is Excel heavy, but you can ask Chad to slow down and re-explain anything and he is happy to take the time to make sure you understand.
He will always pick up the phone to have "office hours." If you're stuck, he will work with you until you figure it out. He's an extremely fair grader and seems to want you to actually learn. You can't be afraid of ambiguity and the effort will pay off.
Chad Storlie is an exceptional professor who strives to enhance the learning of his students and help them understand the topics at hand. His rubrics are pretty general, which makes the requirements for some assignments a bit hard to follow, but Storlie's detailed feedback helps assuage the issue.
Chad did a great job of being flexible with classes skill level with analysis and tailored the class to help us learn the excel and analysis concepts. The class assignments focused on using excel and powerpoint to give analysis and recommendations on data.
Professor Storlie provided great direction on how to complete analysis expected of you post-graduation. He is very invested in his students and gives engaging lectures. Clear and concise grading and learning expectations were provided. Highly recommend taking this class with Chad.
Mr. Storlie is very flexible when meeting with students for help on his projects. He would go as far as talking to me on his personal cell phone to help. The class is hard as first if you're not used to working in Excel, but you get better with the more work you do in class.
Be prepared to work in Excel. Some students who hadn't had much experience in Excel before the class struggled at the beginning. If you come in with some knowledge of Excel, you should be fine.
It is an Excel heavy class. Chad does a good job of going through the data sets so that you are able to understand what he is asking for in the HW. He also does a really good job of making himself available to answer questions.
The lectures are based on real world examples but short - the meat of the class is in excel analytics practice. Be prepared for a lot of vague, open-ended questions. Chad is down to earth and will always respond to student emails. If your class thinks something needs to change in the syllabus, he's willing to work with you to improve the course.
I think it's clear that Chad will never not be student-focused. He appears to have a tough-love attitude at first yet makes time to talk and give advice after hours. He's prepared for lectures. Expect to get cold called.
I took MKT 3005 and absolutely happy I did, even though the course wasn't perfect. Chad is a very good professor, he uses very relevant and interesting examples, he is fun and easy to follow. The class is a good opportunity to realise how cool and important is data analysis in business. But you'd better know how to use EXCEL and DO ASK questions!
Lots of outside class work, but overall easy.
Amazing teacher - stimulated my analytics interest. Would highly recommend this class and teacher but be ready to spend lots of time on assignments. when you spend time, you'll get an A
I learned a lot from his class with excel and it was a great class to force myself to learn the program. There is a lot of applicable marketing analysis you learn that excel has the power of teaching you.
Explanation is good
You will learn a lot from this class.
Explanation was good
No quizzes or exams which is wonderful, but homework can be difficult and extremely time consuming. You do go over homework during class but sometimes you still leave confused.
Excel is a very hard thing to teach, and in the end, most of your learning will come from spending time in Excel and trial and error. Chad gives you plenty of tools to do that and structures his assignments to allow for "discovery". He is very understanding if you communicate with him, and wants to help. Clear rubric grading and generous grader!
Pretty stressful during class, but once you complete your homework, feels super satisfied
Chad is always willing to stop and answer questions. He genuinely cares about whether or not we understand what is going on and makes sure that we are clear concerning the material. His lecture are interesting and he cold calls a lot, but this only helps us to think deeper about the material.
The best part about Chad's class is that he's genuinely there to help you succeed. His focus is making sure every student's questions are answered. He's a little disorganized, but will get back on track if you remind him. Get ready to work hard for the first couple weeks, and start your projects EARLY so that you can ask him lots of questions!
Amazing teacher. He cares about you outside of class so much and wants to see you succeed. If you put in the time, your grade will reflect it.
Attendance not mandatory but part of grade and is key to understanding data sets. Lectures are not super necessary.
He genuinely cares about your performance in the class and is very receptive to feedback on how to improve it.
Storlie was a good professor. Although, it seemed as if we were trying to do too much during a short period of time. I felt rushed, and had to take short cuts at times. Overall he provided some real-world applicable skills!
Great professor, makes lectures interesting with many real life examples. The lectures are more conversational and interactive which makes them more interesting. The homework is very self-directed but you learn a lot of useful skills.
Prof. Storlie keeps you engaged in class and provides you with useful analytic tools that are very relevant to the business analytics field.
Chad is a great guy and his class is very useful in learning how to use Excel for marketing purposes, but the grading criteria seemed inconsistent. I would put a lot of time into an assignment that I believed to be well done, only to get back a mediocre grade. That aside, his class is definitely useful for learning how to use the software.
This class is very homework intensive and grading criteria are not made very clear aside from the general assignment rubric. For example, the rubric is standard for the 5 major assignments but no specifics are given outside of being mentioned very briefly in class. If you miss those instructions, you have no chance at getting the median.
Unclear expectations of for assignments. Hours spent on trying to figure out what to do with no clear instructions for guidance. In class lectures are not very useful because only grades come from assignments, but must attend class to get details for the assignments. Assignments are graded right away with feedback which is nice.
I learned a lot from his class. I am glad that I took his class because he is very willing to help to understand and the class is interesting.
Great learning analysis skill in this class and we will learn a lot and get more deep dive analysis for business problem-solving. The great thing in this class is we have a chance to practice more in differeent real data sets by using different techniques especially Excel is really useful in this class like Pivote analysis. Recommend to take.
Amazing professor truly cares about his students. Assignments are a bit heavy but he is super willing to help. I would 100% take his class again! Super knowledgable about the topics covered in class.
This class was an abridged version of MKTG 4074: Data-Driven Marketing. MKTG 3005 was a great intro to the topic and gave solid excel basic skills. Chadwick goes a little fast sometimes but it's VERY okay to give a "slow-down" or a "can you show that again?" He's always available for help, he even takes phone calls for questions.
He was clear about what he was looking for in assignments and presentations. Not a difficult class if you don't skip and listen to him
Great professor, even better guy. I would definitely recommend him as a teacher because I like his teaching style and really enjoyed working on the individual, in-class, and group projects. He teaches the material really well and although at times he just puts his head down and grinds on the excel documents, if you ask him to explain, he does!
I was really nervous at the beginning of the class. I'm not super great with excel so I was worried I would struggle. However, Chad does a good job in class providing techniques for how to properly go through the data. Chad tells you everything he is looking for in an assignment and he grades fair.
I would absolutely recommend this professor. I took this class to get more comfortable with excel and data analysis. He challenges the class, but always checks in with everyone to make sure that everyone is following along. He is always willing to help and wants everyone to succeed. I recommend this course and taking it with Chad!
I like Chad's lecture, you can feel he is really trying to make the dry stuff fun and he is good at tuning up the atmosphere of the classroom. Although the instructions and expectations for the assignments are kinda vague, especially for the first assignment, he is very open for questions either in class or outside of class.
The professor is a great teacher. He's hilarious in a really corny way and makes an effort to get to students to participate. The lectures are really engaging and he tries to make sure everyone understands the material. That said, if you're not proficient with Excel coming into this class, it will be pretty challenging/frustrating at first.
His class is fast-paced. Make sure to pay attention and do your required work. The grading isn't harsh and he's pretty accessible outside of class.
Chad really cares about students learning which is why he cold-calls (but not in an intimidating way). Recommend getting started on the assignments early so you familiarize with Excel and can ask questions. Overall, the homework can be time-consuming but his fair grading makes it worth it. Overall, great guy and would take more classes with him.
Chad is a good professor and his lectures are clear. However, the guidelines for the assignments aren't very clear at first. You have to create your own directions for each assignment because a general rubric is the only guideline that is provided.
Chad really cares about his students & wants them to succeed. He does cold call but not in an intimidating way and makes sure you know it's okay if you don't know the answer. The assignment grading can be vague at times but he leaves it up to you to create your own analysis and story of the data with rough guidelines.
Chad shows that he cares about his students and takes feedback seriously. He will direct class on what previous classes have told him as well as his current class. Each lecture seems to be working on the homework and he wants his students to know what to expect and be comfortable with what they are working on. He grades assignments extremely fast.
He is really helpful during lectures and answers all the questions from his students. Assignments take up a lot of time to finish but are graded reasonably. Try to make it to every class as he gives a lot of useful tips and tools for you to use in the assignments.
Chad shows eager in what he teaches and brings relevant course concepts from business world to broaden our horizon of how marketing is done in business settings. I was at first intimidated by the first two homework due to unclear grading criteria but started picking up what he wants to see in our homework. He encourages you to ask questions.
Good professor who is very receptive to questions from students and gives many options for students to voice concerns on assignments. Sometimes the assignments can be unclear but ask questions.
This class is heavy excel work. Having previous knowledge of creating graphs and pivot tables will help you succeed.
You learn a lot in this class! No tests, but assignments take a while, but its a better way to learn. Make sure youre listening cause he goes fast but its helpful. Hes willing to review anything to missed.
Chad is a great professor who values class feedback a lot. He constantly would stop class in order to ensure that everyone is caught up. He also personally grades assignments and provides pretty solid feedback. Sometimes what you did wrong may be tough to pinpoint what needs to be corrected, but overall chad is a great guy and would recommend.
Chad is always keeping students engaged in class and also he is willing to answer a lot of assignment' questions. He cares about whether student understand the assignment's materials and help students solve problems in class by using excel tools. His class has a lot of fun which can give you a comprehensive idea how do business analytics.
Chad is an excellent professor and is extremely flexible to change when the class needs extra instruction. Chad always wants feedback to improve the course and will make changes in real-time. Chad gives great feedback. The course itself is excel heavy, with no tests. With good effort, there should be no reason not to get an A in this class.
Chad is an overall great teacher. He does teach you in class how to specifically do parts of the assignment in class. I would make sure to show up in class so that you don't get lost in the assignments. There's no tests, just powerpoint decks and one group assignment. Overall, a solid teacher and a great class!
Chad's class is really intense. Be ready to show up and listen for the full time because he moves fast and will cold call at any time. The workload outside of class is pretty light if you take good notes during lecture - he covers most of the steps with Excel walkthroughs that you can save and use later on the homework if you're following along.
Chad's class was very much focused on working through the datasets together in Excel, rather than being lecture heavy. Attendance isn't technically mandatory, but if you don't go you'll probably be extremely lost for your homework assignments. Cold calling is a thing, so get comfortable with that. All in all, a solid professor and a good class.
Chadwick Storlie has somewhat unclear grading criteria in an interesting class where you are forced to use creativity to solve a unique problem. Good class that teaches real life skills.
Chad was extremely nice professor who really cares about the success of his students. His class can be a bit tough but he provides a lot of help.
Super nice guy, clearly cares about his students.
Useful class, very project heavy. Assignments took a while but he devoted a lot of class time to answering questions and helping with homework.
The class is fun and engaging and he helps you a ton with the assignments. As long as you put in some solid effort into the class it isn't that difficult. Be prepared for some cold calling at the start of the class, however, if it's something the class doesn't like he'll stop doing it.
Great professor. Lectures are interesting and there is a lot to learn.
Your grade is dependent on seven assignments. The class is graded fairly, and Chad tries to make sure everyone understands the assignment. For the most part, he does a good job.
This Class is really hard if you have little experience with Excel. It moves really fast and if you miss a class You Will Fall Behind!! He moves really really fast, in my opinion too fast. This class should be a whole semester and start slower and build rather than just jumping right in.
Chad is a great professor who really cares about your personal development and preparing you for the real world. Although his cold calls can be intimidating for some, he really wants you to learn and apply your knowledge to real world data sets and in-class examples. I would definitely take another class with him.
Active class environment
Incredibly patient with student questions, even when the same one is asked twice in a row. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS. He loves it. Be prepared for cold calling. Seemed to be pretty generous on grading so long as you follow his standards for what to include on graphs and slides. Asks vague questions, but is happy to clarify what he means.
Great professor. I feel I have learned so much about excel and it is one of the best courses I have taken at Carlson. Chad cares that you actually learn the material which is nice. However, one thing I didn't like was the grading. The assignments were graded on a generic rubric which made it unclear what he was going for. Overall, great class!
Chad is solid professor. He gives great feedback and if you ever need him to slow down, just ask. The first assignment for this class is confusing, but after that it all makes sense. I would def recommend him for this course.
This class is the most beneficial class I've taken in college. It really expands your skillset in excel. Chad is one of the most approachable professors I've had. The assignments are tough but Chad is a generous grader. Also he will be more than willing to stop a class demo to help you catch up if you ask.
Chad is a great professor who cares about his students. He will answer questions that people have asked even if someone has just asked the same thing. This class is excel heavy, but Chad explains how to use everything. If you are already familiar with excel get ready to be bored. Overall, very engaging class with only 7 assignments and no quizzes.
