this guy is just plain mediocre.
this guy sucks. he talks down to his students and is boring. overall advise you to avoid his class like the plague
arrogant
This guy is great.
very helpful and always available
arrogant, inflexible
He's great!
Gives us very interesting lecture and is kind and very helpful to students.
he very insulting to the student. makes bad remark and bad jokes.
The guy looks like Ken(Barbie's other half)& he's super cool, i bet he drives a pink convertible. I can't believe anyone could be "offended" by something he said. You people are a bunch of babies. his class is easy and he knows his****. he's a fine gentleman, even by barbie's standards.
okay. this dude - thinks he knows everything, walks like he knows everything, talks like he knows everything. how come his class is sooo boring? so basically he is just a boring arrogant prick who cannot teach for nuts
i am glad to be out of the class. annoying guy constantly talking down to students. if you can tolerate maybe you learn something. take investments from somebody else if you can.
Class isnt bad, but night class is not recommended. Good teacher, most complaints heard are by those who dont go to class and fail, which is pretty hard to do in the first place as you can get by with just the slides and the book
class is okay. guy is arrogant. attitude got a bit better over time. certainly not a candidate for the dog pound.
just back from a break to pittsburgh and into school. had a nasty feeling when i recalled this arrogant dude. hope i can avoid him for the rest of my stay here at pitt.

He really knows what he is talking about and you will excel if you go to class. It is key though to read and take book notes. Huge curve!
Avoid if at all possible. Cocky.
Great professor and he was from New York Mills. Can't go wrong with a guy from Mills.
Easy going and good teacher.
Awesome guy
He is not a difficult professor; he wants everyone to do well in the class. Sometimes wording on tests can be tricky though. Overall a great teacher to have!
Hard to say. Wants everyone to do well; class is not easy. Dropped out of bus. school but was unable to drop class due to the hard lower credit limit. Never studied, copied homework answers directly w/o reading questions, knew absolutely nothing, beat class average. Otherwise, very nice guy, reasonable workload/attendance policy, but hard tests.
nice guy. he really does want everyone to do well. there is a massive curve every test (8-15%) because the tests are pretty tough...hand written homeworks every week and 3 tests. dont have to go to class--i went maybe half of the time. his slides are the exact examples from the book--he tries to pass the time and be funny and small talk a bit
Zutter is a nice guy, no mistaking that. He really does want you to do well, but then his tests are pretty rough. The final: forget it. It was nearly impossible and totally killed my self-esteem for the rest of finals week. He is much better in a small setting, so I'd recommend the night section. Not a bad choice, but be prepared to study hard.
Chads a really smart guy and knows his stuff. His class is not mandatory however there are weekly homeworks for each chapter that get turned in at recitation. He uses powerpoints that are summaries directly from the book. His tests are 30 questions multiple choice however they can get really tricky though.
He's a good teacher and goes over the material slowly and clearly to make sure everyone understands it. Read the chapters and add notes from the readings to the powerpoint slides, and the tests will be easy; they are multiple choice, and the final is a little harder but not bad. Also gives a nice 5-8% curve on each test.
Chad uses powerpoints and test questions straight from the book, but the difference here is that his lectures complement and enrich the ppts. The books is extremely readable, online questions are free and mirror the test questions. Awesome curves had me going into final with a 100+%. Final is tougher but non-cumulative. Take his class if you can
I took his class and got an A. But I strongly recommend people do not take his class unless you have to. He constantly be late for the class and shows no respect to his students. Basically, his ppt are useless as a photocopy of the textbook.
No work req'd. Unlike with other finance profs. So easy. HW answers are online. 3 tests straight from the book - soooo easy. Each test is curved. Attendance not req'd - he just goes over the powerpoint slides from the book. All you need to do is read the chapters and you will get 100 on each test.
Hard class. Zutter is a great guy, but not so great as a teacher. He means really well though, Homework answers are all online. Tests were extremely hard. There were problems on the final not covered in homework, so expect a lot of curve balls. I would recommend taking someone else if you can.
Fantastic guy, incredibly smart, this class was a great take. You get out what you put in, so if you really want a career in finance, read the book and visit him in office hours to get extra info. Otherwise, it is still an easy A. Every test was curved substantially and came straight from text.
Hmmm. Homework due every Friday and is graded by completion. He co-wrote the book so be prepared to read it. Lectures were pretty boring. Tests are conceptual and formula based. Know the key terms, how to work the formulas and you'll get A. Tests are usually 4-5 chapters. DEFINTELY REQUIRED STUDYING IF YOURE AVERAGE LIKE ME
Only reason I went to this class was because we got pop quizzes. Zutter is the only professor I ever had that could literally talk for 2 and half hours straight about nothing. He very easily got off topic. Going to class is not necessary. I read the book and got an A. Take him for intro, he makes it way easier than other professors.
Pop quizzes are 10% of your grade, but homework is an easy 15% of your grade--gives you full credit if you attempt it. He wrote the book, and gives you the labonline book for free.
He is aware that Finance does not come naturally to everyone. He is a really nice guy and genuinely wants you to succeed. Lectures are boring.. but it is pretty hard to make Finance very interesting. Pop quizzes are 100% for anyone who shows up to class to take them. Homework is 15% of your grade and actually quite helpful. Exams are MC!
I am writing this as I am sitting in his class. I have absolutely no idea what he is talking nor do I care, but I got a 94 on the first two exams. It is an unbelievably simple course. You have to go to class because of the pop quizzes (open notes), but you, in no way, are required to pay attention.
Pros: gives text + online access for free because he wrote the book, straightforward, reasonable workload Cons: boring lectures, gets off track, tests are very textbook focused, does NO math examples in class- if math is your weak point, get a tutor or hope for a good TA.
He gives you the book and homework access for free which is cool but other than that I have only negative things to say about him. Being in class was useless, I only went for the quizzes. Basically you just need to teach yourself from the book and good luck on the math because he doesn't show you how to do anything but expects you to know it.
Zutter is a cool, funny guy. Lectures are pretty boring and dry... Caught myself zoning out every lecture. Lots of components to improve your grade - hw and pop quizzes, you get full credit just for completing them. Exams are hard, but you can find test banks that will help study.
Pretty sure this guy would flunk AP calc. Sucks beyond belief. Finance focused people stay away. Non-finance people should specifically take him and his textbook targeted at community college students .
Its comical seeing the variation in ratings for Prof. Zutter. The variation mostly seems to reflect negative reviewers lack of understanding that this is an intro class for all majors. Professor Zutter mentions that finance majors may wish there was more depth and rigor while non-finance majors may wish for less. Ultimately he strikes a balance.
Zutter is very Meh. His class seems like a lot of review as someone who has taken accounting and economics classes. His lectures are dry and he rambles a good bit. He is knowledgeable but not focused. Also he pitches pop quizzes at the end of class sometimes that aren't hard but very unwelcome. If you have to take him it isn't the end of the world.
Very helpful & wants his students to do well. Pop quizzes are actually worth surprise bonus at the end (1% towards your final grade for each pop quiz taken, graded for completion). He drops two homework scores. Curved all of the exams by like 5%. Do practice problems and be sure to understand how to use a financial calculator (I wish I had)!!
Chad. What a guy. Most boring class I ever took, but was an easy A.
Professor Zutter is terrific and he definitely tries to get students involved. He knows the material and gives you a great feel for it during lectures. The test material comes directly from the book.
Straightforward. Lectures really help you relate to the material. If you do the homework and read the chapters, tests are totally fair and doable.
Totally fair and manageable class. Prof. Zutter tells you whats expected and provides the resources necessary to meet his expectations. Overall great class.
class not related to test. at all
Zutter is a great guy, gives a decent lecture, but for a terrible class. Intro to Finance is so dull (perfect for the non-finance majors) and he makes that very clear. I went to class only on exam days and got an A, simply by reading the textbook throughout the semester, then re-reading close to exam days. Class is usually curved too.
Lectures are typically dull or off topic. He told us on the first day of class that he knows his students don't enjoy his teaching methods but that he doesn't care. Homework and class lectures don't pertain to the exam questions what so ever. Recitations just go over the homework, which is always really easy so it wasn't much help.
Would not recommend. Chad rambles during lectures and often times is unable to finish the lecture slides in time for the test. He always jokes about how he has a tendency to go on tangents, but never makes an effort to stay on track. Exams not relevant to the book or examples discussed in class.
Chad goes off on tangents in class and rarely finishes the notes before the end of class. He claims that attendance is mandatory through top hat, yet we are not graded on attendance. Exams are not relevant to class notes or homework. Honestly, I have no clue where he gets the material from on these exams. It makes no sense. Don't recommend at all.
I am not a finance major and wasnt looking forward to taking intro finance, but Professor Zutter made it both manageable and meaningful. I have a much greater appreciation for financial management and the role marketing plays in the financial management process. Definitely a beneficial class for business majors.
Non-finance majors beware. This class should be a weed-out class for finance majors, however non-finance majors need to take it too. Unnecessarily hard for non-finance majors. Zutter is passionate about finance but his lectures are pointless as they do not reflect his exams. If you have to take this course... good luck.
Chad runs a very solid finance class. The class is not a walk over but thats because finance is a difficult concept. 2 tests that are around 33 multiple choice with a 36 question mc final. The conceptual questions are easy if you read the textbook. He curves every test, including the final. There are also optional homeworks from pearson.
Very solid and informative class. I learned a lot about the firm and how the financial management process works. Professor Zutter covers everything you need to know during lectures and is very consistent with the material in the textbook. He gives lots of anecdotes during lectures that help relate the information to industry.
His lectures are extremely boring and dry. He tends to ramble which loses me so quickly. The homework through MyLab is worth 20% of the grade. You have unlimited attempts so if you put the time into it, you will get 100%. This is what saved me from failing the class. The whole class did so bad on one exam that he gave a 19% curve.
Professor Zutter has really helped me this term. I really appreciate that he is so accessible. He holds office hours every weekday that we do not have class and is also available after class and by appointment. I needed some help at 10pm one night and he responded to an email and quickly met up with me on Zoom to discuss. He really cares!
I am not a finance major so had to work extra for a good grade, but Prof. Zutter Did a great job. His lecture style was easy going and he was extremely accessible and willing to help. If you have to take intro finance take it with a Prof. Zutter.
The lectures were interesting and contributed to my choosing finance as my major. Chad is a great guy and definitely wants students to learn. I will take him again if he teaching any other finance courses.
The class was interesting and certainly challenging. Fesser center does a good job of conveying expectations and being available to students. He definitely cares and wants students to learn.
This was a very beneficial course to take and it did a good job of preparing me for future finance courses. Professor Zutter is very knowledgeable and willing to help. The homework really helped me learn the material.
Professor Zutter knows the material really well. He is very passionate about the class and you can tell he really enjoys what he teaches. I appreciated being able to reach out to him with questions and he always explained things in a way that made it easy for me to understand.
He is always willing and available to help. He went step-by-step through examples, which really helped me. He is clear about what is included on the exams.
The homework and examples in class really helped me learn the material. The professor was available for office hours every day we didn't have class and being able to pop in for a few minutes to ask some questions really was beneficial to me.
Prof. Zutter knows the material and wants students to do well. I enjoyed the lectures because he seems to be enthusiastic about Finance. If you visit him during office hours he shares that same enthusiasm with you and is very helpful.
Prof. Zutter does an extremely good job of making the class possible for those who may be taking the class just to move on, while making it difficult and challenging for those who will go further in finance. I like that he taught the class in a way that made it possible for everyone to achieve if you put in effort.
I enjoyed that he provided real life stories and examples of how businesses and governments use the financial concepts we discussed during lecture.
Professor Zutter is friendly, approachable, available, and very experienced in the subject. He is always willing to have in depth conversations about what students are interested in in class.
Lectures were easy to understand and he explained things well.
Prof Zutter does an awesome job teaching finance. This is only an introduction class, but I feel like he gives students a very thorough understanding of whats going on in finance and why all business majors should care about finance. My major was undecided when the semester started, but after taking Prof Zutters class its finance for me.
The class averages on the two exams were 65 and 55. I thought this was just low cuz of COVID, but he said this was average. We could do corrections, but had to show our work on every single problem, including multiple choice ones. But of course you don't know how you did on exams or homework for a long time because he's the slowest grade ever.
NON FINANCE MAJORS BEWARE!!This may be the farthest thing from an "undergraduate introductory survey course of managerial finance". Lectures are boring and confusing, homework take 4-7 hours a week to complete, and all of that for a 55-65 avg. on the exams. Maybe it's harder being online during covid but this is the hardest class I have ever taken.
Professor Zutter is a great professor, but always goes on tangents. It is so difficult to pay attention in class. The exam averages are always so low, but he let us do test corrections to get some points back. Overall nice guy, hard material.
Chad is a great professor and obviously very passionate about finance. I am not sure why the tests are made so much harder than what we do in lectures, but corrections help a ton. Definitely seems like the best option for Intro to Finance to me.
This guy does not know how to teach the material he is giving to us. Started our final late, and didn't seem like he cared. Did not show people their grades until 2 weeks before classes ended. Exam averages were terrible, and they were NOTHING like the homework/practice quizzes/ lecture examples. Overall rating of the experience: Abysmal. Avoid.
His grading pace is a joke. You have no idea on how you did on the material until weeks and weeks have passes. By that time the class has moved on to other stuff. Unprofessional and downright sloppy. He doesn't care for the course or for the students. Just cares for the price of the book. Pitt should pull him out of this course.
Worst business course prof by far. Doesn't provide grades till the end of the semester. Exams have no relation to what we do in class and assignments. Is not helpful either in class or out of class. Just seems to have no interest whatsoever.
Professor Zutter is terrific. He cares and wants all students to learn.
I am not a finance a major, but professor Zutter made the class interesting and challenging. I had to work hard and I learned a lot. Great required class.
Finance is not my thing, but Professor Zutter made it interesting and manageable for me. It was definitely challenging and not my best grade ever, but given its a required course I was glad I took it with Professor Zutter.
Professor Zutter does a great job teaching a required class. He makes a genuine to ensure that everyone understands the material (not just the finance majors).
Very difficult class. I would've failed if it weren't for the generous curve. He cares about his students but, man, his lectures are boring and he goes on tangents all the time that it's difficult to stay focused. Prepare to fail bc even if you know the material, you will run out of time & fail (or get C's) unless you're smarter than everyone else.
I am not sure why Chad teaches this course. He does not care for his students. He dislikes interacting with them. He does not provide any feedback. He takes forever to grade their work. He does make us all buy the textbook though
If he worked in a corporate or military job, hed be out on his dough. This could be due to his rudeness. But tardiness would win out. Extremely lazy about grading or giving any other feedback. Unprofessional.
He's a graduate level professor teaching an intro course. The exams are extremely unfair, especially when it comes to bond and stock valuations. Over half of the questions and the first formula sheet is labeled while the second one it just random formulas copied multiple times with no labels attached which is completely unfair with the questions.
Zutter is a class where you def need to work for it. I'm a finance major and that made learning the content way easier but if you're not a finance major/don't care ab it, I wouldn't take him. I've learned the most out of my time at CBA through this class, really prepares you for finance internships. Exams are hard, but definitely manageable.
Professor Zutter was hands down one of the best professors I have ever had at this university. Lectures were extremely informative with many real world applications and examples. If you are interested into going into finance this is the course to take.
Professor Zutter gives no homework, does not record lectures, does not post slides, does not post grades, does not have a schedule, and should not teach Finance. Graded on 3 exams, and if you ask him how to study he tells you to read the textbook. For a 50% computational exam. Also gives "self-test problems" but with no solutions. Unaccommodating.
Awful. Take ANYONE else.
The textbook will be your best friend. Chad wrote it so it is very useful and follows lectures directly (lecture examples will be in text book). He is very passionate about the content, but goes quickly and is hard to follow. For the love of all you hold dear, don't take the night class.
Chad was the most useless prof I've ever had. Grade is based on 3 exams which are incredibly difficult and for what. Goes off tangents in class. Examples he does in class are trivial compared to what's on exams. Gives out "self-test" questions to help you somewhat prepare for exam. You'll do better if you don't go to class and just teach yourself.
Worst course of my life. The material was not explained well. The course was structured poorly. The instructor just dialed it in. I suggest you fo this course online and tranfer in the credits.
Take BUSFIN with any other professor unless you are okay with teaching yourself. Graded on few things and office hours do not help because he will just tell you to read the book he wrote himself. Class is not an "intro" course and way too hard for students who are not finance majors.
The class is challenging, as expected. He emails your exam grade a couple days after each exam, and clearly says and said that you will receive full credit for the challenge problems as long as you just show that you completed it. He knows his material like the back of his hand, and all classes are just power point presentations. Was more than fair
Professor Zutter is a great intro to the finance field. He is someone that will always respond to you and help you through any issues with the class. Overall great class and great professor!
One of the worst profs Ive had. No wait. The worst prof Ive had. Awful Take anyone else.
You will be forced to buy his book. Make sure you line up a buyer.
Professor Zutter really cares about his students and takes time to help you if you have questions in or after class. I had to work hard but I learned a lot.
I don't really know why he gets such poor reviews. The material is hard but the self-test questions help with computational problems, and the textbook goes over the conceptual ideas. He is also very generous with curving exams and the homework is pretty much a guaranteed 100% if you complete it.
Professor Zutter is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's accessible outside class and willing to talk to you for hours which was very helpful. He sent us the grades via email. Be sure to read the textbook chapters before study and understand every question in your self-test problems since the exam questions were similar
The class is graded by homework and 3 exams. Zutter's lectures are boring, but the slides offer a stepping stone to understand how to do the homework. I wish he walked through the calculator and posted the slides before class, but Zutter posts the resources a day after class. The material was very difficult, but Zutter's curves saved my grade.
If you put in the work to understand concepts, class is straightforward. Self-test problems w/ unlimited attempts and questions similar to the exam, completion graded challenge problems, recitation that literally helps with how to do all these, and textbook that I feel if you can answer the review questions in each chapter you're set. He's great.
Chad reviews do not make sense to me. His lectures are optional but he posts the slides after he completes them and they provide a great overview of how to approach the homework and test problems. The problem sets are exactly like the exams just worded differently and the challenge problems are just for completion so all you need to do is submit it
Professor Zutter expects students to work hard and demonstrate their understanding. However, he provides all of the necessary resources and he is super available to help students outside of class. Overall, with Professor Zutter you get out of his class what you put into his class.
Don't trust recent reviews he has changed his course structure to be harder. Attendance is MANDATORY and wouldn't be a problem if the lectures didn't put you to sleep. The lectures are him talking at you for 1hr and 15 min with no class engagement. Exams are rough, gives you an incomplete formula sheet. SAVE YOURSELF and take ANYONE ELSE.
Does not teach problem solving in class, he simply reads through PowerPoint taken from the textbook that he wrote. Nothing gained by going to class, you must read the book which is still generally unhelpful. Equation sheets for exams are unlabeled/not the best ones to use. Assignments are not given partial credit or review at all. No TAs, Awful..
he doesn't post the slides until he finishes the chapter which takes abt 2-3 classes bc he goes so slow yet still doesn't really walk thru the examples (which are from the textbook he wrote) and his lectures drag on making it hard to focus.i basically had to teach myself the whole course. just take someone else
Professor Zutter is caring and fair. He provides the textbook and is available to help during office hours or outside of class and office hours if you just email and ask. I learned a lot this semester.
The GOAT. Gives you the answers to both homeworks. Babbles a bit in the lectures but it's funny and he's just passionate. Super nice guy and overall easy if you go to class and study.
Overall not a very good teacher. Doesn't post slides until after he completes the lecture, not a single other professor ever does that. If you don't understand a concept in class, good luck waiting a week until you can finally see the slides lol. makes everything so complicated for no reason, feel like he tries to trick you on purpose. Steer clear.
Not an effective lecturer, doesn't explain things well, too little examples, doesn't post slides right away. Does not explain solutions on practice quizzes, and on top of that he adds random irrelevant information in most of the problems on practice and tests to try to throw you off. If chatgpt is down you are chalked.
Lectures are mandatory and not beneficial. Does no problems by hand and clicks through a slideshow in a monotone voice. Would not take again.
Chad is super passionate about finance BUT you will have to put in some extra time to learn the material yourself, lectures are a little dry but go to class and recitation, the class is not hard and you'll be fine, get to know him!!! Great guy, you won't learn if you don't apply yourself. Go to class for attendance so you can get your exams curved.
Prof. Zutter was a great professor. He was a very knowledgeable and passionate guy. HW questions are former exam questions which is very helpful for studying. That being said, go to recitation and read the textbook if you want to succeed in this class.
If you have the option to take another professor you should, but Zutter is not that bad. He is very passionate about the material and very knowledgeable about the topics.
The guy is about as openly racist as he can dare to be.
Just awful. I am graduating this semester and looking back this ace ole is the worst professor I had at Pitt.
Missing formulas on sheet and boring lectures. Did not know what to expect on exams.
Exam Formulas are missing, and the wording of the exam questions is very confusing. Professor Chad is a nice person, but the course structure makes it difficult to follow and boring. If you take this class, be prepared to relearn most of the material on your own. It is better to take the course with a different professor.
He is not the best professor but imo overhated. The math exam questions are straight from the lecture slides/self-test. Some of the conceptual can trip you up but read the textbook and you should be fine. It does suck he doesn't go over math in class + attendance is mandatory but the resources are on the slides. The exams are fair. Very possible A.
Lectures are not the most interesting thing, but he explains the concepts well and is very passionate about what he teaches. Tests can be difficult but he provides good study resources and is very willing to help inside/outside of class. Downsides: he skims through computational problems during lectures and doesn't label the exam formula sheet.
Do yourself a favor and don't take this class with this guy. He talks like he's on something the entire time and the tests are impossible. He doesn't teach at all just rambles about BS that isn't on the exam. Worst professor at the University of Pittsburgh, or one of since there are honestly a couple.
This class is not difficult if you put the extra work in and practice the example problems. The exams are all curved and the questions on there are extremely similar to the homework problems. Only downside is that lectures can be kind of boring and he didn't label the formulas on the exam sheet.
I was nervous at first because of the reviews, but Professor Zutter genuinely cares about students. He replies to emails quickly and listens to feedback. When challenge problems were too hard, he allowed unlimited attempts. Exams are based on self-tests, recitations are helpful!!
He was alright. Exams are basically copies of homework questions and problems on the slides, but I'm not an auditory learner and got confused a lot in class because he doesn't post the slides until pretty late on, which was kinda annoying. He responds to emails quickly and seems like he genuinely wants to help thought, so I'll give him that.
Professor Zutter gets a bad rap on here and I am not sure why. He is very genuine and always tries to get students involved. He knows Finance isn't a "fun" topic for most, but he still lectures and tries to be interesting during class. The homework is straightforward, and with a day of studying for the exams, you should do well in this class.
Must attend class to get TopHat participation based on location, and in order to participate in the curve. About two homeworks bi-weekly, answers covered in recitation. Very willing to help during office hours and outside of class. No review for exam or extra practice problems, so if you're not finance you'll find his teaching style more difficult.
Go to recitations because it helps with your self-test and challenge problems. Attendance is mandatory. 3 exams count for 75% of your grade, so good luck.
Really nice dude but literally talks your ear off (went to office hours for two hours 15 minutes were about the questions I had). Does not do the math for you literally just shows you the work and that's it. Zero steps. Rants about random stuff the entire lecture. Tests are way harder than any textbook material or slides provided. Do not take him.
