Professor Hettiarachchi is a very good teacher. I had taken Math 152 before and didn't do too well. However, this time I was able to pass. He is fair with grading all hw assignments and tests. He explained math concepts where you can understand Math.He is very patient, and kind with everyone. If you need to take Math 152 take him,he's the best!
Good instructor - made the class OK to understand
He is a very nice teacher. All he cares about is to cover the syllabus, and if we ask him to do more problems he says "No, i have to cover the material and its really frustrating. He says that we need to be able to know how to do fast calculations in our head. No calculators on exams n quizes btw...
HES A REALLY NICE GUY. ATTENDANCE ISNT MANADORY BUT HE COLLECTS HOMEWORK EVERY DAY. UNLESS YOU KNOW SOMEONE THAT CAN TELL YOU WHAT THE HOMEWORK IS, I RECOMMEND YOU ATTEND CLASS. THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 4 EXAMS. THE FINAL WAS 20 QUESTIONS VERBATIM FROM THE 4 EXAMS. & HE GIVES YOU THE ANSEWERS PRIOR TO THE FINAL. I WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN.
He is a nice person, but his teaching is not very good. He basically teaches straight up from the book, he goes way to fast and once you feel you are getting the grasp of the material he moves on to the next section without letting the student get accommodated to the new material. Sing up to his class at your own risk.
Mr. Chamath is very helpful. I used to go to office and always ask him to help me out in problems I could not figure out. He always answers emails quickly and sends emails to every student to make sure everyone knows what the homework is. I took two of his classes and I am planning to take CALC with him too. He's a good teacher and is fair. :-)
He is a good professor, he teaches just what u need to learn.
Has a very strong Indian accent, so beware. Messes up some problems so write in pencil. Goes over everything you need to know. Very helpful, doesn't mind going over something if only one person doesn't understand. Highly recommended.
Mr. Chamath is a great teacher. He is really easy, and takes time to explain the course. we had 4 exams and he dropped the lowest. finally, the final exam is not hard at all. I higherly recommend him. Can't wait to start 174
He knows the material and knows how to teach his class. If you want to learn , I will recommend to take his class.
HE IS A VERY GOOD TEACHER AND HAS EXPLAINED EVERY PROBLEM WE REQUESTED. THE EXAMS ARE ALSO EASY AND HE LETS US KNOW ALL THE POSSIBLE QUESTIONS BEFORE EXAM AS WELL.
The good: test questions are literally the exact questions he gives you for practice. Memorize them and you memorize the test. Drops lowest test grade. The bad: he's hard to understand, makes a ton of mistakes, takes up entire class time, and is a very harsh grader on the tests. Plus you have to pay extra for WebAssign site. Make him a last resort!
I took him last spring. I think that he is the best teacher that I had in my life. If you go to his classes, you will get A or B. But, people who don not like to go to class and study, probably will fall. In few words, he is the best teacher that I had in four semesters taking different levels of math in NVCC.
He's awesome! Knows the material and obviously has a passion for math and talent for teaching. He does explain very quickly and expects you to solve problems off the bat, but it's an excellent approach. Word of advice: don't cheat! He caught some students in my section and they failed the exam. If you do the work and pay attention, you'll do well.
tHis is GREAT EXPERIENCE. Everyone , I would recomend to take his class. He teaches so clear that follow his instructions is easy to pass his class. I would recommend for who wants to take MATH 173 and Math 174 or any math course. I enjoy his class. Thanks! . About great is what you deserve if you go to class and study day by day you will sucess
He is a great teacher. Very smart and knows what he is doing. Homework is mandatory, but all quiz/test questions are straight from the homework or practice problems. Textbook isn't mandatory, he uses WebAssign. He teaches by doing example problems. Don't expect to miss a class or leave early, he teaches the full time and it's all on a test/quiz.
Very Helpful teacher, he is the greater professor to teach calculus. Do not miss his class and become to learn a lot a new material that you will love at the end.
Very good teacher but expect to do homework every night. Attendance is mandatory. You won't pass this class w/out attendance and homework. Everything is from the text so read it before class. Answers all questions in class and after. Have Fun!
Do not skip any class. every day something new to learn. Do the homeworks day by day. The webside teaches different ways to resolve some exercises. Copy all the exercise that are giving to you in class. Follow instructions for your professor. When you do not understand ,you can go to his office hours to learn. Not study the day before to the test.
This class has been a great experience as the teacher is very good at what he does. He is also very cooperative if you have any questions. I also took MTH 271 with him and then this class. I will 100% recommend this professor if you want to learn and also get a good grade.Have a good semester :)
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Prof Chamath! He Answers questions in class and presents organized lesson plans. Class was not easy: did hw for every class, studied for all tests. He's passionate about math, and occasionally off-topic discussions about the material ensue during class. He is highly recommended; he sparked my interest in math!
He is not a bad professor. HW can be tricky, but if you can understand the HW, you should do well on the tests. Tests come right from HW. He will also answer any question you have. You still need to work for an A, though. Overall, I recommend him.
took a six week summer class with him, it was a little tricky following him just because of the fast pace. but very helpful teacher, cares about students, gives helpful advice. if you study and do the homework you will do good on the exams. 10 questions per exam and about 5 of them are taken from practice problems. take him or Dr. Forest Fisher.
Summer session. Didn't take MTH 151 and felt that the class was fine. He teaches a lot during one class period so you are there the whole time (but it is an intensive course). Quizzes, homework - both through MyMathLab. Good hearted professor.
He is a great teacher. He does have a slight accent but nothing to cause any distraction. He gives a lot of information in each class. Homework is online which costs $45 dollars or something like that. His tests are very similar to the practice problems. He is a nice teacher i would definitely recommend him.
He seemed like a nice professor at first. His grading is pretty clear: 4 Exams w the final and 1 of the first 3 are dropped. Tests were worth 60% of final grade so if u didn't do too well on them u have no hope for succeeding.Dropped his class because he couldn't help me with make up exams that i missed due to deaths in the family. No extra credit.
The best math professor so far. Exam problems are from the practice questions. Homework is online which is very short but you have to pay 45$. You don't need to buy the book. Does a lot of problems in class. and a very good grader. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM.
He shows a lot of helpful examples in class and answers any question in a comprehensive way. The types of problems on each exam is clearly stated a week before the start, so if you do the practice problems, you will ace the test. The online quizzes are easy. He drops 1 exam and 3 quizzes. Overall, he is one of the best math teachers at NOVA.
he's intelligent and helpful when needed.
Super easy. The class is already easy, but he makes it even easier. Great explanations and super easy assignments and tests.
Awesome professor! The class was already easy, but he made it even easier. Easy assignments and easy tests, with quite a few low grades dropped. Definitely recommend.
Great professor. Four tests and a final exam involving a combination of the first four test's questions. There's webassign hw & quizzes. The four tests come from the questions he assigns in the book. He's extremely helpful outside the classroom, and is descriptive in class, but he uses the book a lot in class. Ask for help if you need it and DO HW!
I dont have problems with his acent but he does not how to teach. His exams are easy if you seek tutors outside of his class. he never replies to emails. He always says he is busy. doesnt help. 4 exams, lots of quizzes online with multiple opportunities to retake. hmwk online as well. This class is a waste of money -
I highly recommend Dr Chamath. He's a very good math professor, knows math very well. Have 4 exams and a final which are very easy to do (drop 1 lowest exam)and 7 online quizzes (drop 3, they're all very easy). Right! he doesn't email and is accent . Those who complain about him must be dump at math or are just lazy. Take him
do not take him, listen to the negative comments. he is not a good teacher, not even to just pass the class
I took him for the summer class, and I pass. If you were to talk to him after class he'll give you some extra points which will makes a HUGE difference in your grade in the end. If I'd studied harder I would've gotten a B.
Wonderful professor. He spends time and make sure that everyone understands the subject. Very helpful if you talk to him after class he will go over your questions again. Drops 2 quizzes and one test. Tests are exactly from review and class notes. Just listen to lecture and you should get an A
Horrible professor. Even calling him a professor is an insult! Never tries to help his students and will always discourage you. He is fan of nerds and will do anything for them. Will never be there to help his low standard nerds! Just cuz of this class I cant get into my dream UNIVERSITY!! I will recommend this class if you like F!
Gives you oppertunity to get an F and only F. Homeworks makes no sense and the way he talks, cant even understand a word. Horrible professor when it comes to grading, takes off points for minor mistakes.
I took this class so I can transfer to my University with some extra credit. This guy gave me such a hard time and awards me with the lowest grade possible. I can not believe he ruined my carrier as a student. I am no longer eligible for the guaranteed admission because of this class. Gives you no help and tests are tough, teaches bad. DO NOT TAKE
He's a little difficult to understand but he always makes sure you have other options. You can meet him for office hours or go to the tutoring center, both are a big help. Everything he teaches is pretty straight forward if you have ever taken an algebra or geometry class. Just do the homework and you should be able to pass the tests fairly easily.
Good prof but tests are horrible! He only gives 10 questions each being worth 10 points. You miss one and you're automatically at a 90% (sucks) bc he's a tough grader and takes points off for anything.
If you have another option, go for it!
I worked really hard in both classes and would take him again. His accent did not matter, I understood his words. Problems done in class and HW are exam relevant. He cares and wants students to understand. Teaching method is very good in my opinion.
Prof Chamath is a very intelligent and knowledgeable teacher. He is a very energetic lecturer and gives his students personal attention. His class is very interactive and he tries to have students solve problems in class in order to find their weaknesses and corrects them. Although the subject is difficult, he guides you thru it step by step.
He's an alright professor, math is one of my weakest subjects, but I did majority of the homework and listened in class and received a C. 3 tests and a final, and drops the lowest test grade, online homework will be assigned and gives enough days for you to complete them. Accent is present. Dont skip class. Do the homework. Simple.
Homework has nothing to do with tests. Assigns practice problems and test is directly from practice problems. You could skip every class in the course, do the problems at home and pass the tests. Final is based off previous 4 tests. Drops the lowest exam. Doesn't help at all during office hours.
Easygoing professor, lectures aren't too fun, mainly because its math though. Attendance isn't mandatory. Fast-paced class, but blame that on the course. 4 Tests and he drops one. Assigns online quizzes and homework which are generally easy, and gives about a week to finish them, which is plenty of time. If you're good at math it should be a breeze
Prof. H is a very cool guy. He has an indian accent that is sometimes a barrier for me, but he writes everything down so if you missed something then you'll still have it. His lectures in class are very helpful. He goes straight to the criteria and reviews questions that are on the tests. He is super nice. He will allow more than he should.
Awesome professor. if you cant understand him cause of his accent then you need to improve your English. he writes everything he says down on the board word for word too! 3 tests which weren't hard. one was take home hw is online and so are quizzes. he goes through lectures slowly which is awesome i would recommend him to everyone and i will.
Great class. Clear instruction with examples work through. He even walks around and helps people through out the class. Best Math class Ive taken at NOVA. Tests are problems he chooses from the textbook and final was based off of older exams. Very easy to get an A if you're willing to do the practice problems he assigns. Also the textbook needed
He is the best professor in NOVA for MTH174. His lecture is long, and hard to follow. Professor is a nice man, the only time he is tough is during the exam. BUT, he gave 68 review questions and gave exact 10 our of them for 1st test, then take home for 2nd, the final is chosen from these two tests and 17 more reviewed questions. Easy A!
Professor Hettiarachchi was a truly great professor. He would spend almost the whole class doing problems on the board and walking around to make sure everyone in the class understood. He also doesnt care about attendance, which is nice. He's really passionate about the subject and it shows. I would definitely take him next semester for calc 2.
Lectures are very easy to understand. He's making funny jokes sometimes. He's sweet and if you get a good grade on take home tests you're an A.
I took his 6 week summer class. He does a lot of practice problems on the board straight from the book. He assigns homework and quizzes on Webassign. Tests are really easy and 10 questions are chosen from the practice problems he assigns in the textbook. The final is based off the previous tests and were exactly the same. Easy A.
Great teacher! Even though he has an accent, it does not hinder him from giving lectures and notes that are easy to understand. Would definitely recommend taking his class; as long as you show up and take your notes, this class is an easy A.
Uses web assign. Try your best not to look up answers. You won't learn that way. Gives a lot of examples in class. Gives you problems to try and goes around checking. Try to take him during fall/spring semesters. You will definitely learn. Exams aren't hard. Final is composed from the previous exams, so it's very easy. Gives you good steps/hints.
Clac is hard but ya boy got an A with this G
The reason why I performed well in his course was due to his tendencies to push his students. What you learn in the lectures may seem difficult at first, but as you go home and practice, you realize that he really did you a favor. Attend class, complete webassign (online assignments/quizzes), take notes, and practice questions in the textbook.
This professor is incredibly good at explaining and giving lectures. He has a slight middle eastern accent but is still able to be understood. He does multiple examples of problems and doesn't give up on his students when they struggle. He is friendly and gives a week to do your homework when he assigns it. Great teacher.
Mr. Chamath is a nice guy; he wants you to get down to business and succeed. His handwriting can be chicken scratch, but he will always write out the steps on the board which will help you. The class wasn't that hard, you just have to follow along (most) of the time. Test Q's are straight from the book, so look them over and you'll be fine!
He's one of the best math teachers I have taken in NOVA. He answers any questions/doubts that you might have. however, he does get annoyed when someone asks simple questions but that is very valid because it's Calc 2 and if he started explaining simple algebra, he will not be able to cover the syllabus.
He is a decent professor. His lecture were extremely long but easy to follow, though sometime he makes simple calculation mistakes. He test are basically question he took from the study guide, though his grading is extremely harsh, one simple mistake can cost you a grade, even if you get the right answer he will take off point for your work harshly
Pros: Midterm exams are selected from review questions, and final is chosen from previous midterms. Attendance not mandatory (but recommended since it's a hard course). Drops 3 homeworks and 3 quizzes. Cons: Class is boring since the professor mostly just says to do this and that problem in class. You have to pay for WebAssign.
Enjoyed his class. He made Calc 2 simpler than any other professor would. All his exam questions come from the textbook so all you have to do is study the review questions and you're guaranteed a B. The final has the same questions as the previous exams.
Best Math Professor at NOVA. Textbook is online so don't buy it from the book store. Gives us home works and quizzes as soon as we finish a section and we have a whole week to turn finish them and he drops the lowest 3 quizzes and home works each. 2 tests and a final exam all 10 questions each. Study guides show all the questions. TAKE HIM.
Homework and quizzes are done exclusively through MyMathLab, and I didn't have to pay for access to it this semester. None of the grade depends on participation, but the grade is test heavy; the final was 50% of the grade and each test was worth 25%, so you need to know the content. Lectures were just going over example problems from the text.
good prof ever. take if you want to improve your GPA
One of the coolest professor I've taken this semester. Very nice and helps you on all questions. Since I didn't pass all of my units I'll be taking him next semester again! Take him, easy A if you do your work.
This professor is amazing. there are only 2 tests and homeworks/quizes posted every week, he starts posting quizes later on in the semester. he gives practice questions before the test and he will give you 10 of these same exact questions on the exam, make sure to solve them all and memorize them, the final exam is same but with the new prac probs
Professor Chamath is patient and kind. He teaches the lesson until you get it and answers all your questions you can't solve.
I would not take this teacher ever again. He doesnt teach at all
I skipped class a lot and I end up bombing my second exam. Even if he is boring make sure you attend class so you know what is going on! He is a great professor though and always make sure to do the practice problems he gives you for the exams.
Do not recommend ... his lectures are so fast and confusing. He expects you to already know majority of the material... Math was one of my strongest subjects... and more than Half the class dropped out / stop showing up.
Definitely would recommend. He makes Calculus a breeze because of how easy and straightforward the exams are, and there are only 2! The practice questions he gives before exams help a LOT. Great professor and great guy.
Lectures straight out of the textbook by mostly doing textbook questions on the board and working through it. Tests consist of problems from the textbook verbatim. Basically, if you do all the practice problems he provides and understand how to get the answer then you will be fine. Also, uses WebAssign for homework and quizzes and DON'T skip class.
Terrible teacher 3 tests are basically your whole grade. Does not teach well just goes through textbook and skips steps.
Great Professor. He made calc 2 really simple. He assigns practice questions before each test to help you prepare. The material covered is not easy but the exams are fair. there are only 3 exams including the final and none will be dropped though.
He seems like he would of been great, however, if youre going to take MTH 154 I wouldnt suggest taking him. Not sure if its because it is a new course but he didnt know what he was doing in this specific class. Sometimes it looked like he was learning the material himself. Had to teach myself most of the time so I could get a decent grade.
Awsome
Actually the worst Professor I've ever had. The list of problems is endless. Graded exams incorrectly, forgot to bring back graded exams for students, assigned problems he himself did not know how to answer (how?), never posted grades, lectured by literally copying the textbook problems on the board. I got an A, but man is he an awful Professor :/
Pros: Tests are the same as the practice problems. He is on Pearson and is only 10 question pretty simple. All of his notes are from what is on the test. Cons: always late. His grading is tough Posts his own hw so its posted late and has nothing to do with tests. Hes too fast when explaining things. All quizzes were posted last week of class.
Took him for MTH 263 (Calculus I), and he's a really good professor. He doesn't grade you on the final answer, BUT on how you get to your final answer. Also doesn't require simplifying on tests. Be aware that he only does his notes on chalk/white board and doesn't post them online, so attendance is important. Definitely taking him for Calculus II.
If I could define him in one word I would use 'Caring'. He's the most humble Calculus professor I ever had. He delivers inspirational lectures by alluding to real-world problems in maths. The only 2 things I disliked about his course were- no extra credit and purchase of expensive crappy Cengage homework.
Professor Chamath are super caring and attentive during his lectures, he will help you after class if you ask. Homework are quite manageable, test are minimal and straight from study guide. Great professor overall, sometimes he does make jokes during lectures. Highly recommend taking him.
my favorite NOVA professor. He is so incredibly intelligent, he grades very generously, he does not overload you with assignments. He goes the extra mile to make sure his students understand the concepts and homework questions he assigns. He posts study guides and provides formulas during tests. A++ professor.
Dr. Chamath is such an amazing professor. He is one of those professors who uses the textbook for everything. Gives great lectures, for everyone to understand. There are 2 midterm exams, and a final exam. He does grade the homework and quizzes, which is both 20% of the final grade. His exam questions are straight from the textbook. Take him!
Exams are worth 70% of your grade, but they came straight out of the textbook and he encourages his students to tackle problems in class. The final was composed of questions from the two previous exams and 4 questions on the last few units. He gives homework (10%) and online quizzes (20%) which should be an easy boost to your grade.
He was my worst prof at NOVA. Came to class like 30 minutes late each day and didn't respond to a single email I sent. He was sweet with a thick accent, and his exams were extremely basic with questions we've already done before. Covid-19 happened and then it just got worse when it got transferred online. I had no help whatsoever from him.
Dr. Chamath is the best math professor I've had. There were 2 midterm exams worth 25% each, homework 8%, 3-4 quizzes 12% and the final 30%. He provided practice questions for all exams and used those questions for the exams. He provided formula sheets where needed. He made sure to practice these problems in class and held multiple study sessions.
I took his 6-weeks class online due to COVID and it was great. Not too much hw and no pop quizzes. He hold a study session before each exam. His exams mostly based on problems that we have done in class. The final is based on previous exams. However, he usually start and end the class a little late. You will get at least a B if you try.
Easy A his tests are straight from textbook and right before the test he does review problems and the review problems are exactly from the test. All answers are also on chegg if you dont get an A you are just dumb
I'm 25 years old and have had dozens and dozens of teachers/professors across all of that time and I can see without a doubt that Professor H is the worst I've ever had (and it's not close). I got an A in this class with relative ease but it was not thanks to him in the slightest. I wouldn't wish this professor on my worst enemy.
Horrible, horrible teacher... If this is your last option, don't pick him. I taught myself throughout this class. His lectures were out of the textbook and the way he explained things were beyond confusing. I passed the class thankfully but not because of him. Students literally formed groups to teach each other.
I am not going to say don't take it, but if you take it be ready to study by yourself out of the class time because he is not clear, he mostly doesn't know the answer to his own question. Throughout the class, we had to fix his mistakes. I had to ask my gf to teach me because he wasn't able to teach. Just a waste of time and money.
This professor is the most caring, target-oriented, and presented all the mathematical matters related to the real world. If you follow him well, it is an easy A.
Prof. Chamath has the least capacity to teach anything. First of all, he doesn't know simple math, he doesn't know the answer to the questions, he also learns with the students. He attends his zoom session from the kitchen and be ready to hear his microwave 10 times every zoom session for sure. Unfortunately, there was nothing positive.
I cannot name a single good thing about this professor, at best he does nothing. He doesnt communicate, he doesnt know how to input grades in canvas, he doesnt offer anything to the class. He also assigned 3 quizzes during finals week. He kept his mic on during tests and so every time the phone rang or the toilet flushed we heard it. Distracting
He wasnt perfect but the class was easy. He graded everything last week of semester. Not great at answering questions and wasnt clear with most things. However the exams were easy, 2 exams and final - done through zoom with camera on and each 10 questions. 2 projects. All hw and quizzes on MyLab. Attendance not required. Ended up with a 96.
Professor Hettiarachchi's class had homework and quizzes every two weeks, as well as 2 midterm exams and 1 final exam. If you want a teacher who can help you succeed, don't take his class. When teaching, he is often confused, and he does not respond to emails or canvas messages. Furthermore, he never uploads grades! Steer clear of this professor!
Easy A class if you need to take calc 2. If you take him, be sure to do all the practice exam questions he gives out, because he chooses 10 of these for each exam. 2 Midterms and 1 final. Drops lowest 3 homework and 3 quizzes. Homework answers on Chegg. If you are good at integrals and study the practice questions ahead of time, you will get an A.
No engagement with the class. Rude to student concerns. Awkward long silences during lecture. Canvas grade issues. Exams are hard enough, your test time was used to print, scan and email your exam to the professor. Also had to worry if pencil showed up in scans or points would be taken off. Highly recommend a tutor.
If you want an easy A and don't care about the material because it's not connected to your major, take him. If you actually want to learn and absorb the material, don't take him.
Easy A if you dont care to learn anything, but he is very disorganized, comes off slightly rude, doesnt respond to emails, he hand writes on his slides and his handwriting is very difficult to read. Also he messed up grades. tests come from problems we do in class and are super easy. cutting him some slack though b/c course was crammed into 6 weeks
This professor is AMAZING. He gets to the point, isn't stuck up, and is caring. He tries his best to make people do well. Has 3 exams and each has a study guide in which he chooses his exam questions. The class is an easy A, but you still learn the whole course well. I definitely recommend this professor to you. Don't miss out on a great professor.
Dont take this class- its so boring you dont learn anything from him
He's very absent minded and I felt like he was learning with us. It was a mess. I'm not good at math and he just made it worse by not knowing either.
Youll have to teach yourself. Hes hard to understand, but responds to emails. All hw is on MyMathLab. Theres not a lot, however it takes time. He gives you a week, start early. 2 Exams + Final. He gives practice Qs so study them. The test is based off of them. He does a lot of practice in class so copy everything. His lesson is the textbook.
The biggest mistake of my life is taking his class. He now uses Pearson and has no idea on how to use it. Will never respond to you and will try to throw the blame on you. He lost one of my exams and said "idk, I looked for it 8 times." And then proceeded to try to give me a 0 and gets annoyed when you show concern.
This was one of my worst classes. I wish I could go back and not take it. I honestly think it was a waste of time because he has no Idea what he is teaching. He makes the work unnecessarily Difficult. I went to his office hours and he spent 2 hours trying to figure out how to do one question on his own assignment. Try not to take his class.
This is a great teacher if you want to ruin your transcript. He does not know his material and he cannot teach. He does not know how to work with Canvas. Grades are not put on Canvas. Very disorganized. Will NOT answer any questions. He has no syllabus and no office hours.
Most unorganized, disrespectful person who does not know anything. He comes to class with his back to students and writes on board mumbling to himself. He is not willing to answer any questions. He relies on publisher modules and blames publisher for bad stuff. Lazy man and does not know canvas. He will not tell you anything about your grades.
People would snore in class and by the second week half the class was empty. Graded by just tests and all he does is practice problems in class, no teaching! I truly made a mistake trying to stick around. Also if you talk to him he gets annoyed.
Busywork for no reason. Teacher cannot teach at all waste of time and money. Only uses publisher web assign, will not answer ANY questions will NOT respond to students. I asked him for appointment whole semester but he would not even talk to me. Rude disrespectful, does not care for student learning. RUN AWAY...
He cannot teach. Had to hire tutor to teach me. Does not care for students. Just keeps writing on board using publisher practice problems. Will not talk to students. Gets angry if you ask him questions. very unorganized. Does not know how to use Canvas. You will not know what your grade is or how you got it. Do NOT recommend.
Does not know any math himself. Cannot teach, rude, disrespectful and arrogant. Does not care for students at all. You cannot ask him any questions or he will get angry. He will not tell you why you got the grade you did. Extremely unorganized. STAY AWAY!
Terrible!!! Cannot teach. Will NOT help. Don't take him if you are looking for someone to answer questions. Does NOT care about students.
Don't waste your time. Too much hw on webassign. teacher does not teach anything. He only writes on board and does not speak to students. Never there in his office. I still don't know how he calculated my grade. Will not answer any questions. Grades not put on Canvas. Terrible.
This professor is for a certain group of people. If you fit in the criteria of you've already taken calculus in High School and you're not in a math-based major, then I would recommend this professor. If you know the content, you'll pass easily. If you actually want to learn from scratch, avoid this professor.
Terrible!!! Cannot teach. Will NOT help. Don't take him if you are looking for someone to answer questions. Does NOT care about students. The worst class Ive ever taken
He is so rude and will not help. Very very harsh grader. Will not explain the grade he gives. No rubric and throws curve balls on all exams. Never in his office.
Worst experience where teacher does not teach. Only writes on board with chalk dust flying everywhere. No learning at all and he does not know who is in his class. So much homework which he does not work in class. Does not know how to use Canvas. Will Not help. Tough grader. Does not explain grades.
Teacher is unbelievably hard. Cannot communicate with students. He does not write assignments himself. Uses only Pub modules which he cannot explain. He does practice problems in class but he changes problems in tests which he does not work on in the classroom. Ridiculous course load. Harsh grader and does not help.
confusing class without any direction. Difficult to understand teacher. his back is to students as he keeps writing on board. Does not interact with students and will NOT answer questions. never in office & will not help. Takes long time to grade. Will not tell why he took points off. Too much homework and extremely harsh grader.
He is a great guy and his lectures are mostly based on questions from textbooks. If you do the study guide then you will get an A easily because his test questions are from study guide. A lot of times during lectures he gives us questions and comes to each person individual to check their work.
I wish I had not signed up for this class. No learning & no student engagement. Teacher does not care for students. passes attendance sheet for signing. does not even know if you are enrolled in class. Cannot use Canvas. Does not grade on time and takes off grade without explaining the reason so cannot even learn your mistakes. Harsh grader. RUN!
I signed up for his Calc II class based on earlier Calc ratings that I have seen. His teaching style is absolutely terrible and horrible grading scale. 3 tests are worth 80% of your grade! He just writes really fast on board, can't anything he is saying without absorbing the material and expects you to know it all. WOULD DO ANYTHING TO DROP IT!
Don't take this class if you care for your transcript. Teacher just writes on board and will not talk to students and will not help and will not answer any questions. Takes very long to grade and very hard grader. Does not give feedback so you will never know what you lost your grade for.
Disorganized class and disorganized teacher who does not care for students. Will not grade on time so you will not know what where you stand. Just writes on board which he says are practice problems which he changes on tests. Will not help at all. Don't ruin your grade. Stay away.
I didn't understand anything in this class. Teacher only writes on board and does not even know you are enrolled in his class. Will not answer any questions and will not help. He tells you to go to tutoring center for any questions. Does not know how to use canvas. tests have to be done on paper. Practice problems are different from tests.
Exam questions are literally straight from the questions he does in class. Final exam was 80% questions from previous exams and 20% from a new chapter. HW and quizzes can pile up and he only gives you a week to do them, so do them early. Exams are given in-class and the first hour of exam days are literally a REVIEW session, exams are heavy weight.
I did not learn anything from this class. Unreasonable course load. Too much hw and too many quizzes. He does not help and will not answer questions. He only writes on board which he says are practice problems. One test after another on which he will change practice problems and throw curve balls. Stay away.
Tough grader who does not teach anything in class. All he does is turn his back to students and say he is doing practice problems which is not understandable. He changes questions on tests. Takes to long to grade so you can't even drop the class. He will not explain your grade. All you see is deduction and question mark. No feedback. Run!
It is Math so it is important to teach but this teacher does not teach. He keeps writing and says he is dong practice problems which are not even on exams. Too many tests and too much homework. He will not answer any questions and will not help. You have to teach yourself.
Honestly don't know what to say since everything has been said already. I was taking a summer Calc 2 course and was amazed at how he thought students could learn by just watching him do practice problems from a textbook on the board all class without explanation of why he would do certain processes. Have to teach yourself everything.Don't recommend
Harsh grader and does not teach. I feel so bad that I took this class with teacher who does't care. Test based class. Your grade depends on tests which he says are based on practice problems. He loves throwing curve balls. Worse, there is no feedback so you can't improve.
Inconsiderate teacher who will not teach and will not help. Writes on board like there is no tomorrow and expects students to be whiz at math by just looking at him writing on board. Harshest grader. Stay away.
I regret taking this class. Instructor does not teach and is very harsh grader. No feedback. He just puts a question mark and takes your points off. Rude person. Just scribbles on board which he says are practice problems. His practice problems are a problem because they are not on the exam. He changes everything. Stay away.
I took this class to learn but there was no learning. Teacher does not teach. He only mumbles to himself and scribbles on board. He does not care for students & he will not help. he does not even know who is enrolled in class. Worst is that he is very very hard grader. You can't improve because he grades late and does not give any feedback.
idk how students are expected to learn with teacher not teaching at all. Mr. C does not even face the class. He has his back turned and writes on board saying they are practice prblems which they are not. They are not on exams. Tough grader who will not answer any questions and does not help. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
I took Prof C's MTH+MDE combined course, and perhaps that is why my experience was so different than the majority here. Prof C reviewed every test, every Exam the day after going over each question we asked him to review. during each lecture Prof C would write practice problems on the board and give us time to try them, then he would explain them.
This is what the class is: Teacher does not teach, only scribbles on board, mumbles to himself. Does not help. does not know students enrolled in his class. Test after test. Uses pub modules which he does not even know himself. Harsh grader takes very long time to grade. No feedback. Only puts zero and question mark. Ruined my transcript.
Class is at the worst level of horrible! This class is not for you if you want to learn. Mr. C does not teach instead writes on board and speaks to himself. He does not talk to any students and passes out a sheet for attendance. He will not help students. Very Harsh grader. Does not tell you why he took points off. Do not recommend.
He doesn't really know what he's doing. His only lesson is his textbook, which is fine if he knew how to talk to a class. It's hard to participate in class because he doesn't even look at you for 90% of the time. I had to teach myself material through the hw. He only gives 2 tests but that's not worth enduring his bad teaching skills for 15 weeks
I did not learn anything from this class. Mr. C does'nt even know students in his class. he does do practice problems in class but he changes them on tests. Tests are very tricky. He is harsh grader and does'nt give you any feedback. Don't reccommend.
Ridiculous amount of HW and too may tests. he does not explain anything. I asked questions many times but he ignores you and NEVER looks at students. Only writes on board which he says are practice problems but he changes them on tests. Never gives feedback why he takes off your grade. HARSH Grader.
He takes attendance by passing around a paper, so you can just have your friends sign you in. He is honestly pretty chill and laid back, and if you ask him for an extension on homework or a quiz, he will give it to you as long as it's over email. He does have an accent which is sometimes hard to understand.
lost interest cause teacher is so awful. Just gives you crazy amount of homework as if we don't have anything else to do. Keeps writing on board. Gives signing sheet for attendance. Does not know his students and does not care. NEVER talks to students. I asked him for extension on one HW cause of sickness which he denied. DO NOT TAKE!!
Two exams, 1 final, each 10 questions. Questions are directly from given study guides, with final exam being 8 questions from previous exams and only 2 new questions. Does problems on board step by step and is easy to follow. Do and practice the study guide and you'll get an A!
Do NOT trust study guide. This teacher is master of throwing curveballs. He changes what he calls practice problems. I had to hire a tutor to teach. Does not care for students and will not help. Even with doctor note he will not give extension of homework and test. Test after test. RUN!
DO NOT trust his study guide. Harsh grader for only writing on board. He is not helpful. I should have dropped when I had the chance. I did not learn anything. Save your transcript and run.
This was my last semester at NOVA and he ruined my grade. Have your friends sign you for attendance when he passes attendance sheet. He doesn't care. He does not ever face students so by the 2nd week all students left after signing. He was still writing on board and talking to himself. Sad!
TOUGH GRADER is what comes to my mind for this teacher. All he does is practice problems on board. DO NOT TRUST his practice problems. Throws curve balls on exam. Will not help you with anything. Take someone else.
Run if you care for your grades! Teacher isn't there for any help. He swears his study guides will be on test and they are not. He changes questions.. He never looks at students. His class is empty in the 2nd week.
you really don't learn anything in this class. Teacher doesnt even know his students. What I disliked the most was he takes off your grade and gives no feedback. He will not help. Take someone else.
Horrible professor doesn't develop any relationship with his students repeatedly pronounced my name wrong after correcting him multiple times. does not care about your success is only there to get a paycheck.he doesn't even give you enough time to write handwritten notes for one's retention. one of the worst professors I have ever had.
There was 1 final, 2 exams, idk how many hw and quizzes (not a lot), but the 3 lowest hw and quizzes are dropped. The final was basically the 2 exams and 2 questions from the new units. Lecture on board and no online notes. Rushed at the end bc we couldn't finish the unit but wasn't covered in the final.
Professor Chamath was good teacher. I liked his class and the lectures. The exam questions are directly from the study guide he provided. I only don't recommend him for a person that is not good at math. You need to show your full work or he will take some points away without feedback. Overall I find the class is fine.
I had Professor Chamath last semester, let me tell you this professor sucked. As a teacher/professor I feel as if helping your students suceed is the most crucial part of teaching. He did none of that, he gives too much homework, quizzes, and doesn't even know the material he is teaching. He doesn't get to know his students at all. Do not take him.
Although he goes fast in lectures, the tests and finals were a breeze. He provides practice questions that he uses on the tests. Drops 3 of the lowest hw and quizzes.
I genuinely believe he is a good professor. The exams are based on the hw questions, so if you do the hw and study it you will be fine. There are 2 exams, and 1 final and he is a very lenient grader. Although he teaches fast I think he is a pretty option.
Chamath's class can be tough, but using unstuck AI for practice problems and study prep made a big difference. The lectures are straight from the textbook, so attending isn't crucial if you stay on top of the work.
