Funny teacher. Heavy accent. Tests very thorough to see if you understand the concepts. I imagine there are easier teachers for same subject. Big bonus points for attendance, though.
if you go to class he gives you so much extra credit just for coming to class
No Comments
He is hard to understand. But is fairly easy. If u want an A/B this teacher is probably for you. Although, if u actually want to learn something...do not take this teacher.
Hes a decent teacher. His exams are surprisingly challenging. Just stick with it, and you should get an A/B...just go to every class. Def a note-taking class.
Tests are very hard/thorough. 3 exams is grade. Lots of extra credit for going to class. I would try to find someone else before I took him again.
i liked this guy so much, i took him for econ 210, 211, and 303. very very easy. big bonus for attendance, yes, but i never went to class and still got high A's. tests are open notes! not that i even used mine, since i never went to class i had none.
Great Teacher, His test are hard, so if you are afraid to challenge your brain, try another field.
I LOVED THIS PROFESSOR! The material was challenging and even having open notes did not help that much but I still got a 'B' because I went to class and b/c he dropped an exam that almost everyone failed. HIGHLY RECCOMEND HIM! He is very understanding!
Took him for 210 as well. but he is too easy to be true. Went to 1/4th of the classes. His notes are online, doesnt take attendence. Offers alot of extra credit. I avg over 100 on my tests, just from reading the book. Tests are a bit challenging tho.
Also taking him for 303, his lectures are very clear, he teaches you everything you need to know for the test and in 303 your able to use notes. Plus has a good sense of humor and makes class interesting considering the topic. Adjunct prof. so won't really help you outside of class. Easy B or A
he's hard to understand with his hindu accent. his class is hard too.
Worse teacher, not good. Its a waste of time to take him. His tests are really hard.
all the notes are online...3 exams...lots of extra credit...tests are much harder than study guides and lectures...BAD TEACHER...hes funny...but he needs to take ESL...this is not a good class for any serious business major.
I took Chandra a couple of years ago for Macro..I loved his class. He was funny and test were challenging and I learned allot. However, he has changed. His test do not shadow his lectures and they are EXTREMELY hard. I do not reccomend at all.
Sweet guy, funny guy, poor teacher. He constantly had to be corrected by students, which will certainly make you question the value of your VCU degree. The exams are easy (assuming you attend class), and the generous extra credit opportunities make it nearly impossible to do worse than a B.
I couldn't understand him. Besides that, he took off points b/c I had to go to the bathroom in a 7-940 class. If he wouldn't have stopped teaching and made a scene, as if i would have bothered ANYONE. How childish. His son is cool, though.
he's cool...take good notes and follow along in class and you will do well on the test....for god's sake- his exams are open notes what more do you want?
he is funny, but when it comes to exams. its hard. plus he does provides you with open notes, but it is still confusing. he is a funny guy. but very unclear sometimes. sometimes he is in his own la la land. Dont put him in your hard classes
I had him in Spring of 2001 and thoroughly enjoyed him. He was easy to understand and engaging.
GREAT TEACHER, LETS YOU USE OPEN NOTES ON TESTS, IF YOU GO TO CLASS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES YOU WILL GET AN A. HE IS SOMETIMES HARD TO UNDERSTAND BUT HE WRITES EVERYTING DOWN AND GOES AT A SLOW PACE SO EVERYONE CAN FOLLOW HIM. FUNNY GUY TOO.
Take good notes and always go to class, you'll do great in the class. His notes are well-organized... in the end (he does a few corrections). Funny guy though, I enjoyed the class. Tests are open notes, do the homework and you'll get an A.
everything already said is on point. i had difficulties attending class, so my grade suffered proportionately, but if you always go and take the notes, you're sure to get at least a "B" without even studying. his tests almost follow his notes exactly. sometimes he can be extremely hard to understand, as he does have an accent, but overallnot bad
You have to try really hard to get less than a B in his class. His exams are open notes and are identical to the practice problems. If you go to class then he does the problems for you. The math in this class is a joke. Easy class
Wow...I've never had a more boring class. If you can stay awake and take all the notes you should do fine in the class. Tests are 60 multiple choice questions and he provides 30 of the questions on the test ahead of time to study. Although, many of his questions are worded strangely and can be confusing...Have fun trying to understand him also!
Waited till summer to take this because I didn't want a night class during the semester. Well worth the wait, and very easy! Open notes, easy tests.
Took this class during summer. He is a good professor. Open notes for test are great but it is imperative that you complete the practice test and turn them at the end of class. Please do not wait until the last minute b/c it's hard to quickly type algebra and calculus problems!!!
he is the best teacher i have ever taken at vcu all the tests are open notebook test. he is very easy teacher and very helpful. the only bad thing about this class is that its night time but i think its worth it if you take it night too. i enjoyed this class so much and i didnt study that much for this class but i sill got good grade.
OMG this class is so easy. Go to class, and he writes down word for word how to do each problem. Then, the tests are OPEN NOTES and MULTIPLE CHOICE. It is worth taking at night-- and he always lets you out by 9pm
Highly reccomend this professor - open notes and straitforward questions on exams. Gives extra credit for doing homework. However, the final was cumulative despite what the syllabus said. There was a lot of material from the 2nd exam on it and I didn't bring my notes for that part. He did curve the final a bit even though he said he doesn't.
Good teacher but hard to understand bc of his heavy accent. pretty much his notes are the test so studyin is a must
open note tests, dont use the book, what can be easier? you do have to study and understand the lectures, but other then that, not too hard of a class
Good teacher, open notes and multiple choice tests. Material is straighforward. Only you need to really listen to him to understand his accent. Funny guy too.

why everybody saying its open note tests,IT IS NOT OPEN NOTE STOP SAYING IT IS.However, he is good and clear teacher. he gives you a good notes which most of the test question is from the note.
I don't know how he is in micro or macro but I would highly recommend him for managerial econ. With open notes how can you fail. If you took him for one of the previous classes and did not like him, than take his 303 and be as happy as me. Funny guy
Open note tests are pretty easy. But this guy is not a teacher! He is very nice and funny and very clear even though you must teach yourself the info. He tries his hardest to explain the problems which are impossible to interpet by the way he explains. But once you go over the notes you will realize that they are very straight foward.
This was the first economics class that I wanted to be in. The professor has a very direct teaching style and makes the topics as clear as possible. If economics has been a problem in your past take this guy.
His posted notes are the class. Know those and the examples he covers in class and you will get an A. Do not buy the book as it is not even used. Closed notes, multiple choice exams.
This is one of the easiest A I have ever got. Your grade is 3 open notes exams. He gives you notes in class and posts thorough study materials on blackboard. The class as a whole did very well. No excuse not to get at least a B. Warning: because our class did so well, next semester he is changing his grading scale, a 93 will be an A.
This is a good professor. However, he will be doing things a lot differently next semester. Even though the exams are open notes, you must study. Sadly, some did ok on the first two exams but not do well on the third exams causing them to get a "D" or "F". Be very careful if you are taking this class next semester.
Very friendly, a little hard to understand, but open notes on tests was a PLUS.
Shrestha is AWESOME!!! I am a junior at VCU and he has been, by far, the BEST professor I have ever had. At first I was a little worried with his accent, but he has a great sense of humor which makes you want to pay attention. He did mention changing his class a bit by adding more assignments, but either way I would highly recommend him!
Obvious strong understanding of the material, good sense of humor, fair grading, open note tests. Thick accent that can sometimes be problematic, uses chalkboard for lecturing so sitting closer to the front of the room is a plus, plans to make his grading scale more challenging, by moving an A up to 93-100.
Dr. Shrestha is by far the best professor VCU has ever employed. Don't buy the book, unless you need reading material to put you to sleep at night. 3 open-notes exams. He has changed his grading scale. An "A" is 92.5-100. Make sure your notes are organized and do the practice questions. Guaranteed "A".
The tests were NOT open notes. I liked him, but the class was kind of hard...I got a B, but you reaally need to study!
Shrestha is a great professor. His thick accent makes him a little difficult to understand sometimes, but he's funny and makes the class very simple. I took the 7-9:40 class and I don't think we were ever there past 8:30. I definitely recommend him! However, the tests were NOT open note as some reviews have said (at least not as of fall '08).
Dr. Shrestha is the best professor I have ever had at VCU. He explains things so well. All you have to do is go to class and copy everything he puts on the board and do the practice problems and you will get an easy A. Exams ARE open notes for ECON 303. Grading scale is a bit different, harder to get an A, but he makes so easy to get an A if try.

Study for 2 hours prior to the test using his study guides on blackboard and you'll be straight as a hard on
Love him, love the class. He makes it very fun and easy. Never though Econ-210 would be this easy, and yet helpful. 4 tests, each one is 25%, but the study guide is similar to the tests. TAKE THE CLASS TO LEARN SOMETHING AND GET A GOOD GRADE! Lets you out at least an hour early every class. I had him Thursdays 7-940.
he is the best teacher ever !
If you dont go to class you can just go over the test review a couple hours before the exam, easy b. Take him.
VERY easy. He only takes attendance for the first few classes. I never attended class and still got high A's on all the tests. His lectures are exactly the same as the notes he puts on blackboard, and the test Q's are exactly the same as the practice test Q's, which he also puts on blackboard. Take his class.
He taught us the material staight forwardly, orderly logically. He went over the material with a fine toothed comb. I wanted to run screaming out of the room! I hated to take this class. I didn't want to learn this stuff, but I did. He kept the class interested by his fun attitude. Also, he seems to be a truly nice person.
Good introduction to economics teacher. Very straightforward and understandable. four tests, 50 multiple choice. I wish he enforced his policies on disruptions in class. At the 200 level you'll have a lot of disruptive persons in there.
A little hard to understand at first. Attendance taken the first few classes, then it's your choice. Lectures are slow. Posts practice tests/questions before exams which are EXTREMELY helpful. Very nice guy though. 4 tests, all averaged together for your final grade. He's definitely the best Microeconomics teach here. Take him.
Test are super EASY! Just study the practice questions. Sometimes class is boring, but he adds to his notes with helpful graphs in class.
pretty much the best teacher to take for managerial econ. Material straight forward, tests are open note and he gives notes and practice problems. You don't leave with at least a B you did something wrong. Don't Buy the Book :-)
easy teacher. no excuse to get lower than a B in class. gives out notes and practice questions. can use both on test. dont buy the book.
Very good teacher. Class is easy. He gives good lectures and prepares you for success. I got a B and barely showed up to class. I also never once used the text book. He goes out of his way to put his notes on blackboard and he gives you a list of practice questions for tests which really helped me out.
Don't buy the book. Print the online notes pior to class. Learn the study guide for the test and you will get an A. He is the best! If you email him with questions he will acutally respond. A lot of people skip class but I always went.
Very cool teacher. Thick accent but after a few weeks you'll understand him. Posts notes and practice exam problems on blackboard, which are extremely helpful. Take his class.
Great teacher. Thick accent but you can still understand him. He makes the material very simple to understand too. You don't really need a textbook since he based most of his course on the notes provided online. Your final grade is based on only tests so best prepare for those ahead of time.
Cares about your grade. He doesn't take attendance and all notes and study guides are on the exams. It can be hard to pay full attention with his accent but the study guides help a lot for the test and look over the notes briefly.
GO TO CLASS. If you go to class and take notes, you will ace the exams. Open note tests, 5 point grading scale. 4 exams 20 questions, need to get a 19/20 on average to get an A, 18/20 for a B. Take with Chandra!
Easy! Come to class or not, he gives notes and practice questions. If you do all the practice questions prior to the exam you will get a 100. Exams are open notes. His class is very math heavy but he makes it easy, much better than taking it with anyone else.
Great Teacher! Lots of extra credit! Class is easy!
Old school professor. NO powerpoints, only lectures and inclass problem- solving. Notes done in class are answers to blackboard homework, so attendance not mandatory unless you know how to do practice problems. Exam questions similar to problems done in class. never used textbook, but to get an A you can't miss 1 question. Yes, he has an accent.
I took macro with him. There were 4 grades for the semester, 4 exams worth 25% each with no drops. However, he posts the entire courses notes online at the beginning and the "notes" are like a study guide. Study the notes well and you'll have no problem getting at least a B
Chandra Shrestha was an interesting teacher. You don't have to come to class because he puts notes called "study Guide" on blackboard for the whole semester. STUDY the notes. Sometimes he will give extra credit if he feels like it (BUT ITS RARE)
I love this class! He's hard to understand at times but he is so nice and funny! I've gotten an A on each test so far. Grading scale is different (95 for an A, 85 for a B, etc) because tests are all open notes! Pay attention and you'll do fine! You can skip class, but I wouldn't.
Went to one non-test-day class all semester and have a 95 in the class. He puts the course notes online for you to study. Take with him if you can.
God bless this man. Extra credit saved me. He likes to reward the people who come to his night class with ten extra points on the test along with giving everyone a 100 on the final contingent upon not emailing him about our grade . Wish I took him for 210 too cause Milner was terrible. Take him Chandra !!!!!!
First off, just finished taking a test. He's starting this rule where you have to show work. If you have the correct answer, but no work he will erase the bubble. Grading scale is as described below. 20 question tests. If you don't show work on 2 questions for all the exams lol don't expect a A. Practice questions are similar to exams, GOOD LCUK!
He puts up notes and practice questions for each exam which you can use during the four easy multiple choice exams. No homework/ no book needed, only notes. Class is moderately helpful because he gives answers to problems, but not essential. Nothing was too hard. Never keeps past 9:15.
You won't be able to understand what he says, but there's no reason not to pass this class. Very straight forward with exams, everything you need is on his study guides. go to his night class for at least the beginning, towards the end of the semester he throws out some money extra credit points.

3 tests. i showed once or twice to the late night class. he gives extra credit, finished strong with an 87.5. definitely should've tried harder and gotten an A. apply yourself and you should do fine. he sends out study guides which basically outline the tests.
Every lecture is him going over the solutions to the study guide problems for each exam. Don't skip because the examples won't make much sense without his explanations. Exams are open notes (not open book) and are all scantron. But remember to show your work on your problems, he hates it when people guess and will dock your exam grade if you do.
Best professor I have taken in VCU. Such a funny man, and always looking out for his student. Do not take his kindness for granted. More professors need to be like him. I don't know why people are saying they can't understand him when he has been teaching for so long and I understand him just fine. TAKE HIM, he's worth it EXTRA CREDIT given!
He's great! As long as you go to class and take notes, you're golden. His teaching style is super clear, logical, and methodical with lots of examples that he works through in class. open note tests, super easy
You have to come to class if you suck at math. Exams are open notes. Do not walk in to the exam if you do not look at the notes. Most are plug in funcitions, but some are concepts that you got to review yourself or with the teacher or professor. If you follow my methods, you will get an A. You got to either be (18-19)/20 A or (16-17)/B strict grad
Honestly, he's such a sweet man. He cares so much for his students. Everyone says his accent is hard to understand, but I honestly don't have a problem with it. He explains things very well and displays it just as it's going to be shown on the exam. Gives exam notes and practice questions ahead of time so we can prepare ourselves outside of class.
Very sweet man, really cares about his students. 4 exams only. He posts notes and study guide for exams online, which he goes over in depths in class. Attendance isn't mandatory but I recommend it. Randomly gave out extra credit points for participation one night so wouldn't want to miss that. Review notes and you should be good.
Ok, Shretha is a great professor, He will give you very specific notes and you must write them down word for word. The test are open notes and open book but I never once used my book, so if you take notes you will be ok, don't purchase the book. Label things from the notes (ex. Price elasticity) , it will help during tests.
Stick around in class, he randomly hands out extra credit. If you want you can study his study guides before and probably get an A, but with those extra credit points it makes it really easy. Hes a pretty funny/goofy guy, but hes really nice. Would take again.
Best professor I've ever taken at VCU. This guy's class is saving my GPA right now, I'm glad I chose this teacher. This is a once-a-week class that's very straightforward and easy, and he gives out extra credit like there's no tomorrow. His tests are 50 questions and quite simple. Definitely take his class for if you want to boost your GPA
This was a freshman course for me and definitely the most surprising. Most people don't even come to class, but you like should. It's totally worth it. Bring the notes he posted on Blackboard and just follow along in the lecture and you will be good to go!
Puts exam note and practice problems up on blackboard. half the time he cancels class. Will give you 16 extra credit points if he has to cancel class. gave my class all 100's on an exam because he couldn't find parking. grade is composed of four tests
Really understanding and helpful, extra credit on every test, only graded on the tests. Posts notes online, clear for each test, don't really have to show up for class. Hard to understand.
