One of the best profs I've ever had!!!
Sometimes hard to understand, but fairly good.
i hated stat but he made it ok .. like a touch of an angel
Seemed to think teaching a 3rd-year course meant he didn't have to give feedback
Unwilling to answer students' questions, not a responsible prof

Best in playing around the class avg
Good prof.
Typical Mainland accent. Can still understand what he is saying so he is alright
explains clearly, notes very organised, very easy in quizzes but final's nasty
No Comments
notes aren't clear, accent sometimes hard to understand, can't teach
WORST PROF EVER. answered questions in chinese while the rest of us sat there...
'You are all 3rd or 4th year students', thrfor i won't answer ur questions
Good notes. Not approachable for help. He was in the worst mood by the end of the term and snapped at everyone!
HHmmm....did he pass the toefl??? can't understand da chinaman (we don't all understand mandarin)
WORST prof ever!!!! No one can understand his accent, plus he's rude when u ask questions. Doesn't seem like he cares. For those of you at UW, make sure you don't have him for any of your classes!!!!!
"Our TAs are big, strong men from Africa". ****, rude, ignorant, and cocky. Teaches in a foreign language full of alphas and betas. Notes are useless. Storms immediately out of class everytime. Horrible.
Why UW hires "profs" like this amazes me. In his words, "I can't speak English". He doesn't care about his students & he refuses to accept criticism. Taught for 16 yrs but it sure doesn't look like it. I'd drop the class if it were not
He's the worst prof ever. The dude can't even speak English, and don't like to explain stuff. His class is just a waste of time, and make you confuse even more, why you're in accounting.
This course is SO EASY. And he seems to me like he wants his students to do well, despite the other comments. He's apparently reworked his course. It's good now.
Most people don't like him because they are too dumb to understand the course so they blame their own lack of intelligence on him. The ones who complain the hardest are the dumbest ones who just can't do math. Funny in a awkward and unintended way.
tho alot of students don't like him as a prof, he is better than W.H cherry. He exlains the matierals in a way that we can understand. notes are helpful and the handout is useful for the ass't questions!

Awesome class, easiest stat course ever taken! Open book quizzes and exams! How can you beat that?
Best class ever!!!!!!!1
a great prof, makes stats so much easier!
This prof is great! His English has improved a lot, and he really shows interest and enthusiasm in the material. His lectures make the course clear and easy, getting an A is no problem! He's very helpful outside lecture time too. He made me even wanna go for STAT grad! Wonderful learning experience!
Seems to me that he loves the subject he's teaching so much. He explaines everything clearly, and know how to make people understand. Unlike prof's who only know how to write down notes on the board.
Usually will understand material better if you have textbook as reference.Explains okay, a nice guy. level of assignment/midterm are decent, be cautious on final.
really nice guy and great prof. he tried his best to make everything clear, i was worry about this course before i took it, but now i understand all the stuff and found simulation is really interesting topic.
I must give this prof a very bad comment based on what he did to the finals! Our class average was originally high. Instead of giving us a hard final, he gave us a very easy exam, and decided to mark hard on it, which is rediculous and unfair.

This guy is a straight up G. Cool prof. Very lively lectures. Has an accent, but every one can handle it. Very good notes. But sometimes leaves important parts out that are sometimes on tests.
Ok prof, tests covered everything not taught in class. No review at all for final material.
nice prof!
i was dreading taking this class, but i was surprised by how much i enjoyed it. very easy to do well just by doing all of the assignments. it's nice to see a prof who enjoys what he is teaching, and his english is definitely tolerable (especially compared to other actsci/stats profs)
Good prof, but rarely available for extra help. Doesn't show up to scheduled office hours and seems a bit impatient when approached. Interesting course with a very difficult final.
Wu was incredibly exciting to watch and listen to at lectures. He shows so much enthusiasm at lectures. He doesn't seem to answer questions properly, usually due to students not speaking loud enough. He is very funny! He teaches well and makes you more interested in the course. He also gives a lot of examples that are not in the course notes.
Clear examples. Comes to class with no notes in his hand but still lectures well and shows he clearly knows his stuff. Has an accent but not hard to interpret.
He lectures well and examples are very very helpful to the tests. Most students in his class get over 20 out of 24 on the test. Stat becomes easier in his class.
really a good prof. in UW
bad prof, not very helpful at all
His notes are crucial, since the course doesn't follow the textbook. Also very important to do assignments. VERY helpful in office hours if you make the time to go. Not as helpful in class, doesn't seem like he understands student questions in class.
a pretty good and nice prof., just take his course!!!!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
great prof. explains things clearly and understands the material extremely well. no accent as well.
Nice prof!!! He makes STAT interesting and easy to understand. Not very much work to do outside class. Assignments are helpful.
Nice guy, explains concepts very well in class. Makes you feel like all is good and straightforward. Then destroys you on midterms and the final.
Really good prof. Explain all the concepts clear and give very useful examples. Not very easy. He makes the class very interesting!
He is a good prof! easy marks and interesting course!
Gives great examples during class and has helpful tutorials. I found the midterms very fair but the final had a lot of confusing and poorly worded questions. All in all good prof and interesting course
Such a nice and adorable prof. He gives really useful examples in class. I went to his office hours during the final exam period, and he just sat down with me and led me through some of the practice problems I had trouble with. Couldn't have done as well on the final exam without his help =)
A funny guy and an interesting course. He does good examples in class and his tutorials are mandatory, since he provides more examples in them. If you attend class and do the questions he assigns your are pretty much set for this course.
Great prof!He makes STAT 230 interesting and easy to understand. I was engaged to his class. Exams are similar to the examples during class. I am glad I had him as my prof:)
Easy class, do the end of chapter questions and go to class and your pretty well guaranteed a 90. He's a good prof, a little annoying when he randomly stops to yell at someone to stop talking.... in a class of 400.
attending this class is extremely recommended.he gives very clear and helpful notes.90+ is guaranteed if you attend all the lectures+tutorials.
He is professional! Based on what he told us, he started to become a prof at age 19.. WOW! And plus he teaches the material really well.. But one problem is, in my opinion, his exam is a little bit too hard... specially the last 2 questions on thie term final.. So, need to work hard on both tests and exam!
his English is just awful. hard to reach, and WILL NOT the question u asked just because it may appear on the final. avoid his class as much as u can
Don't listen to these other rating, even if you go to all the classes and pay attention it is not an easy 90.
Does not answer questions and is very rude and laughs at you if you ask a question. Says classes are optional, but good lucking getting any marks on a final exam if you don't go.
Do attend all his lectures and tutorials if you want get a really good mark! He is crystal clear in his explanations, although he is rude sometimes which does not undermine his overall quality.
clear and detailed lectures and notes.very easy quizzes and ok final. a little bit rude sometimes. his accent is acceptable.good prof overall,perhaps the best for stat230
Doesn't speak English. Teaches the material like nobody is listening.
LOL> this prof writes his own comments. Just read some of them. People say that he has no accent, but that's so wrong, there is no way somebody would write that. Also, there are lots of comments that just say 'good' or 'great prof' and give him full ratings. After meeting him, you can tell right away that he is a snobby prof.
Trying to ask questions for the content missed in lectures, and he was not providing any help at all.
Changbao is a very unprofessional prof. He treats students like they're stupid, and shows no respect. Stat 230 is quite an easy course, and you should pass no problem, just if you take it, don't take it with this prof.
Changbao is difficult to talk to during office hours: he will just laugh at you because he understands the problem and thinks it's easy, and doesn't want to help you.
It's more useful to take the course online, than with this prof. The tests were easy, but then the final was nearly impossible. Most of the material wasn't taught in class -- or at least not in changbao's class.
presents very intuitive explanations of probability, helpful if you haven't studied it before; useful examples (especially during his tutorials) and explains applications, and I found him quite personable for a math prof -- but he glanced over the theory and proofs which were heavily tested
This guy doesn't know how to teach properly.
He explained the concepts very clear and provided lots of examples. His accent is acceptable. I almost attended every lecture and got a good grade.
A good Prof,with acceptable accent, always provides good examples. Go to all the lectures and do the assigned problems then 90 is guaranteed. I think people say he's rude probably because he doesn't answer their questions in the class. I think he wants to teach as much as possible in the class and prefers students asking questions after class.
He is a useless prof. He just writes formulas after formula without giving any examples. The course feels so theoretical even though sampling is VERY "applied stats". He is not clear when he talks and doesn't say why anything we are deriving is useful. In addition, he posts "solutions" to assignments online that say "solutions omitted".
Useless prof. He doesn't explain why we're doing anything in class. He just writes a bunch of formulas with no motivation behind them. He laughs when you don't understand something.
This course is heavy on theory, so it is quite challenging. However I think Prof. Wu introduces the theory very well. The application side is lacking, but the general idea in the course is very clear; you want to find the most efficient estimator. Prof. Wu has high expectations from students in STAT 454, so don't expect to walk into a bird course.
He is very disrespectful to students.
SUPER disrespectful to students. Minimal office hours. However, the plus points are that he is one of the better Stat 230 profs. His lectures are very clear and the examples that he uses often show up on midterms and finals. You just have to deal with his rudeness sometimes. Course notes are also good practice.
He is the worst teacher I have ever met. He is disrespectful towards students. Very rude and useless. I went to his office hour and I said I didn't understand something from lecture. He told me probably i am slow because he has taught for many years and students cannot criticize him. I was shocked with his level of irrationality. He didn't help me
Why is he teaching when he has no interest in the course? Why is he so rude with students? No respect for students yet he teaches them! Nobody dare to bring any issues to him. We have problem with the TAs but we are scared even more to talk with the instructor. He supports his TA no matter what and disrespect his students.
He is simply the worst teacher in Waterloo. I confronted him with his mistakes and at the end he marked my paper separately and did all he could to give me a bad grade!!! How can somebody let such a person to teach??
His lectures are kind of hard to follow but office hour is very useful. He is indeed sometimes critical but I guess it's just a personality thing. He really knows the course material well. learned a LOT of stats in his course, such a rewarding experience.
He is the single most disrespectful teacher I have met to this date. At the very least he should at least pretend to care.
Best professor ever! Maybe he has changed recently. I don't know about the review of him in the past, but now his attitude for work is very nice! His teaching is very logical and clear, with smile on his face! The exam is totally ok if you follow the notes and practice question.
First time teaching an advanced class. When asked, refused to teach usual extra material (measure theory). Refused to speed up lectures. Gave zeroes on midterm if your solution wasn't a memorized formula. Decided to each surprise extra material in last week of class, and then made it 30% of final exam. Average for the course was in 70%.
I don't understand why there are so many bad comments on Prof Wu. I am taking his STAT 230 this winter term and I think he is quite a good professor. Indeed he is kind of an old-school person, but that makes him cute and his jokes are quite hilarious. Also I think his explanation in class is very clear. And his accent is not a big problem.
Worst prof you can ever have!!!
I don't know why this prof has such low reviews. I didn't find him to be rude at all, in fact I think he really took the time to engage his students and show how passionate he is about stats. The material was quite technical but he took the time to explain proofs. Tests were deceptively easy though!
He is really great, very clear and interesting.
Amazing prof. Really knowledgeable, he explains the concepts clearly and intuitively. He makes the stuff really straightforward and easy to understand. He likes to directly pull questions from his notes to exams. Definitely recommend.
AMAZING professor! I don't know why his rating is so low. His teaching was very clear and I felt like I really learnt the material. Tests and exams are almost exclusively based on examples from lectures and practice problems and he gives bonus marks for STAT 450 students (when it's held with STAT 850). Two double-sided cheat sheets for the final.
I hate this course to be honest. The final project is hard and completely clueless. he never taught simulations or writing essays in class and he expects us to come up with our own paper on topics that is related to the materials but not taught by him. Also for the midterm, a lot of the solutions can not be found in his notes.
Prof. Wu is actually the statistical expertise in sampling theory. I love his teaching style. He will show you the theorems and conclusion before the class but the derivation proof will only be in class. He can explain everything in Sampling Theory clearly and logically. A very respected professor!
I had 54 in my midterm, but the class average was 75. Thus nothing to complain. He doesn't really bother you with grading, but you need to follow the proofs he writes in class. Don't waste your time dealing with the extra questions on his course notes; rather review the assignments. Final project is okay as long as you start early and cite well.
I was wondering why the reviews for this professor were bad, but he really is terrible. His grading criteria is absolute garbage and he will not give grades above 95. His reasoning: you are already a top student if you have 95, so don't worry. That reasoning is enough for him to reconsider his life decisions becoming a professor.
Poorly taught course. Poor communication and generally awful lectures. The course notes were far superior. Refuses to answer questions during the lecture and doesn't clarify things well when asked after the lecture is done. He did curve the end grade, but the lecturing experience was so abysmal I'd avoid him like the plague in future courses.
