Worst prof I've had. Makes a subject I was interested in very boring.
I like her.
Very boring, uses the same examples over and over again.
She made was I was learning interesting. If you don't have interest in her classes don't take them. She's helpful and her exams are fair.
Unclear and unfair. Keep away from Chantale!!! Take Gagno instead.
she's fun on her own but the class itself can be soooo boring...it helps to go to her office hours..name dropping can be key
This was so boring, I should have a party every day celebrating the course is over. What's up, McGill? No better options on the market? :(

Mrs. Westgate is the greatest prof in this University. She is knowledgeable, concrete, patient and bilingual, which is, I believe, an asset. Whoever says the opposite doesn't know what competence and human involment means.

She is really really nice. While the class may be booring she does the best she can and I applaude her for that
She is the best!
Most effective professor ever.
flexible and fun
trust me you dont want to have this class with her. She doesnt know her stuff and hates to be contradicted. NEVER tell her that unions suck otherwise she'll hate you for life. Go with gagnon instead!!!!!!
Excellent teacher who makes the class fun.
shes HOT,SWEET,seems trustworthy..but:SHE DONT GIVE A ### ABOUT ANYBODY, and once you will all get ur grades for the course u'll see what Im talking about!SheEVIL!she dont like smart/eloquent men (as Students), she just likes those dumb type she feels smart around!many not expecting 2 fail WILL FAIL
Prof. Westgate is among the best at McGill (took her twice). Unlike other profs, she trully cares about her students & wants them to do well. She's very knowledgeable about the material, makes what could be a very dull subject interseting, and is a fair grader. Definitely worth taking her!
Prof. Westgate is not only knowledgeable about the subject matter, but cares about her students. Through her enthusiasm, she succeeds in making a fairly dull subject fun and interesting. I strongly recommend taking her if given the opportunity, it is practically impossible to do baddly in her classe
One of the best profs that I have had at Mcgill
This Professor is knowledgeable, she knows her stuff... but unfortunately SHE IS THE HARSHEST GRADER EVER.... EVER!!! only her answer is right, and if you contradict her you will get 0 on the question -- you have to write what she "discussed in class" as she says.... hard nut to crack...
absolutely is the WORSE prof ever, she seems nice but seriously BEWARE! (she will eat you alive)
Really ****y, I hated her- claimed working in groups was important and was no help
Marks unfairly, only her way is right, do not accept anything else.
She made the class fun and enjoyable even at 8:30 in the morning. She is committed to helping her students do well in the course and wants you to do well. Even the boring sections of the class are made interesting in the way she presents the material.
Very interesting prof, she knows her stuf and is very passionate about what she is teaching... the only problem is that she is very keen on her answers, it's either her answer or it's wrong... and yes a bit of a hard grader. But you will learn a lot from her class
Great teacher. she is so excited about life, and loves to help you out if you need it.
Challenge her opinions and you WILL BE BURNED. This prof will not accept anything other than what she thinks is right. She may seem very easy going and flexible in class, saying BS like "if you answered that in the exam, I will give you 10/10!" But when exam time comes, she will cut your balls off and eat them for breakfast. BEWARE.

The fact that you're reading this means you're actually considering taking a class with her. What a damn shame.
Absolutely the worst teacher I've ever had. If you disagree with her, she will hang you by your balls. If you disagree with what she says, she will mark you wrong, regardless of how many real sources you show her. (Even if the source is the Government of Canada.) Don't take this teacher.
I tend to aggree with what has been said. She is really keen on her answers. This course is pure memorization, which is not what she makes you believe all year long. She will help you our when you go and see her in her office though. But DO NOT go and ask for more points, she doesn't like that. It's not her who is terrible, it's the course.
Don't ever take this professor. She seems very nice and friendly but marks terribly. If you put answers that make sense logically, but do not come straight from her notes, you will get a failing mark. We put a good amount of time and effort into our group project and she failed us for superfluous reasons. A real you know what...
She is extremely narrow-minded and clearly has favorite students. Grading for the group project is completely random (and failures are not uncommon.) Grading for the mid-term was fine. A nice person, but an unfair one in many ways.

She is a great teacher and is enthusiastic about the material. She makes class very interesting and it is easy to follow. The exams are pure somewhat ambiguous and ure memorization. You'll do well as long as you write everything that were on the slides. She expects a lot in the group project. Overall she is a great prof, there shuld be more like he
Terrible teacher, if you have an opinion that is not hers, it is wrong. If you give logical answers to questions that don't coincide with her answers, you are wrong. Terrible!
Very Cool teacher who expects good students, but who doesn`t??? Pay attention in class and you`ll do great, exams relate to class material, which is taught in a very interesting and non-boring manner. Alot of real-life examples and interesting situations
Agree with another comment, if you dont accept her opinions on matters, you are just wrong. This is my main fault with her, she is nice person, but in her class, she has the monopoly on viewpoints, others are not acceptable.
I had her for other classes and I was more impressed with her teaching methods in the other class...I find she deviates too much from the book making it hard to know what your responsible for on the exam..but overall she's not a bad prof in fact she's very helpful in office hours
Boring, hard midterm, low average
Very friendly and easy going during class.. I heard all these rumours that she was bad/**** but I never experienced it while taking her class. In fact, MHR with her was one of the few classes I had perfect attendance for. She loves discussions and getting people to interact with each other during class.
Horrible Class, the human management relations class is. Horribly unflexible teaching style and grader. Flunked me with a 49% and could have passed me had she given me higher than a 1/5 on class participation. Who does that? The lecture is torment! Only serious keeners/nerds/aspiring union worker need apply. Get out while you still can!
if u dont attend class, or she doesnt like you, you're screwed. she's all over the place and always unclear. she has it in her head that she is the only one in the world who understands MHR! do yourself a favor and take another class
Wow.. Biggest mistake I have ever made. Tricky tests, she's a left wing, champagne socialist. You won't get a high mark, not with her unedited, multi-answer exams. Subjective participation marks. Not helpful, doesn't reply to e-mails. If you think I'm joking take the class, you WILL regret it.
best professor at mcgill. hands down. take as many classes with westgate, as you possibly can.
Her classes are ok/interesting enough but she is often vague with answers. Her midterm and exam are ok but she has very poor grammar so trying to figure out multiple choices when the question makes no sense/is ambiguous is really a pain. ALSO don't buy the textbook, her slides contain everything... waste of money!
Great teacher, don't buy textbook - unneeded. Midterm and final all M/C...on all the slides covered in class. No surprises. Would take another course with her!
Dont know why she has such a bad rep. If you KNOW she likes her own answers, then go to class (especially review classes, so important), write out what she says, and you will do fine if you put it on exams. You quickly learn what she likes. I really like Westgate. Highly recommend.
honest review: 1) Seems as though teaching comes second rate to her marathon training 2) Rushes through slides just to cover material 3) Marks curiously 4) Juxtaposes her teaching methods with exams written with high school grammar 5) Avoid at all costs
worst professor at McGill. very inconsistent with her grading. plays favourites. has serious mood swings. Assignments are graded arbitrarily.
She is the best prof I've ever had at McGill. She really cares about her students and is extremely helpful! If you don't participate in class or make an effort you wont do well. She is very fair and generally a really nice person.
She is really nice, clear, helpful, and interesting. I learned a lot from her. If you show some interest in her class at the beginning of the semester, she will give you good grades and give you answers for the assignments.
fantastic professor, best I have ever had and will ever have, go to every class, listen, participate, and take notes and guaranteed A
chantal is very helpful..i did not do well in my midterm but she assured me that i can do well in the finals. She is an extremely good professor.I dont understand why there are some very nasty remarks...its very uncalled for..teachers are meant to be respected...if you dont do well sometimes you have to look out at your learning weaknesses.
Great professor! Other classes you attend because you have to, her class you attend because you want to. She even made a class on labour history interesting which is not easy to do. Super passionate about her subject and teaching. If you attend class and read the slides/textbook, you will do fine her MC tests. One of the best professors that I have
Honest Review: The topic is interesting and i understand that many people enjoyed the class. But I thought she was an extremely SUBJECTIVE grader, not open to new ideas, played FAVORITES. If you do take the class, make sure you start with the right foot and that you suck up to her. Also, never have an opinion that is different from hers!
Awesome professor! Engages students in many ways. You go out of your comfort zone, but it's worth it, you actually learn things! And it's not a hard class at all :).
Enjoyed taking the class with Chantal. She has a lot of energy which she brings in the class to engage her students and she does it superbly. I had no interest in the subject but enjoyed the class just because of her.
Very kind knowledgeable, and dynamic professor. Available for questions and keep the course EXTREMELY INTERESTING!Get ready to click with clickers!
Prof. Westgate is an awesome teacher! She cares so much about her students and wants them to do well. You have to put the time and effort to come to class, once she knows your name, you're good. Fair grader on how hard you work. T 10% participation. The final was pretty tough but the class itself is fun! Loved Westgate!
Very good lecturer, enthusiastic. Overall, an enjoyable class.
Professor Westgate is so sweet. She cares about her students, and if you participate a lot you'll be fine. Her tests can be a bit tricky so attending lectures are a must.
Professor Westgate is one of the best professor's I've had at McGill. She is passionate about Industrial Relations and truly works outside her job description to accommodate her students. She has no problem giving students A's- you just have to come to class and do the readings! Exams were fairly straight forward and fair!
The best professor I've had at McGill1! You will actually learn things that are applicable in life. She has great anecdotes and its easy to get participation points if you go to class. For exams, I recommend doing flashcards of the slides. Somewhat heavy workload but so interesting. Such a great prof!! Really cares about her students.
great prof, learned a lot. just have to pay attention in class
INDR294 was a great learning experience. As a result of this course I now look at the news and understand what is not saidexplained. Prof. Westgate genuinely wants to see her students learn and succeed! The simulation was extremely useful and the exams are fair and honest. Even if you don't plan to pursue a career in IR, this course is a must
Honestly one of the best teachers ive had at UNI, she was there for us, and really tried hard for everyone to not only understand the material but also to e very prepared for tests. I really recommend her.
She is the best professor i have had at McGill, Very passionate, engaging and clear teaching style. It's not necessarily an easy A but if you go to class and put in moderate effort you can achieve good marks. All the information you learn is extremely relevant and will be useful once you get a job.
Hands down the best and most usefulapplicable class I've taken at McGill. C. Westgate is a great lecturer who gets her students involved in the course and pushes them to think outside the box. INDR 294 with Westgate is a must-take (as an elective too!). Good grades very achievable (midterm + final all MC) but not an "easy A".
Prof Westgate is extremely unclear in her assignment indications. The mandatory class attendance is questionable since very little of what is covered in class comes up during evaluations. Take another prof if you can.
Chantal is a great teacher. She makes the lectures in class very interesting and makes sure that the students engage in the lectures. Chantal is a hard grader and there is no slacking off in this course. It is not an easy A but if you attend classes and do the readings then you will be successful in getting a good grade in this course.
Prof Westgate is one of the best profs that I've had at McGill. She is so passionate about what she teaches, and has the most crystal clear explanations. If you have not taken a course with her yet, I suggest that you do so.
If she doesn't like you, you will not do well in the class. I put in 100+ hrs of work and ended up with a C
Westgate is so passionate about what she teaches and loves all of her students. If you're prepared to put the work in, you're guaranteed to do well! Make sure that you do your readings, participate in class, and ask lots of questions! She makes the material interesting and is very fair!
Great teacher, very engaging in class. Only beware when you come see her privately- you might be shocked at the cold atmosphere that hits you once you enter her office, especially since it is such a stark contrast to the bubbly personality she exhibits in class.
One of the few legitimate professors that genuinely cares about her students. I first had her in INDR 294 and since then, have specifically sought out classes that she is teaching. None of her classes are an easy A, but by far the fairest professor you'll have at McGill. Makes me truly glad I did an HR/LR major. Expensive textbooks though.
SHE PLAYS FAVOURITES. She is not clear on what she wants from assignments, you will get a good grade on the group project if she likes the people in your group, if she doesn't like someone, you're screwed. Also, EXAMS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH HER LECTURES, READINGS, OR CLASS DISCUSSIONS. Only God knows where she found the questions on the exams!!
She is an amazing lecturer and always willing to help. You can learn a lot about labour relation issues from this class. HOWEVER her tests can be really tricky and the multiple choice questions are often not syntactically well-formed. Her views on certain concepts can sometimes deviate from those on the textbook. Don't expect an easy A at all.
I'll start by saying that Chantal is the most devoted professor to her students at McGill. Her good qualities stop there. Her eccentric personality leads to mass confusion amongst the class. Her exams (and slides) can be incoherent. She misinterprets guest speakers and then tests you on her understanding of it. TOO MANY EMAILS.
One of the most engaged and passionate prof I've had at McGill. She teaches very well and makes a three hour lecture go by very fast! Her exams can be tough, but she's very accessible and want you to succeed. The course is very applied-based so you will learn a lot. You need to care about the course and material and put in the time to do well!
Chantal is clearly very passionate about OB. She is also very proud of her professional achievements, most of which are probably more interesting than the class itself. She turns a VERY DRY subject into something that's kind of interesting. She will know your name, and whether you participate in class or not will affect your grade. Read textbook
I really liked this teacher. The midterm and final were very long but not very hard. It is not an easy A but if you go see her she will help with any of your questions. I would take her again. There is a huge group negotiation project that is very time consuming but fun at the same time.
I second the earlier post "I'll start by saying that Chantal is..." She's the most incoherent/disorganized prof I've had at McGIll. She changes the deadline 3 times, puts the SAME question 3 times on the final and questions that were not on the slides/texts, and her slides are a complete disaster. IR is a dumb degree. Pick a better program.
Chantal is an intense person, and that reflects in her classes. She is passionate and interesting in class. She makes you work A LOT on projects and simulations - maybe too much, in my opinion. I was often under the impression that she favoured the management perspective's over the union's although she claims that her analysis is neutral.
She cares a lot about her students. If you attend class and participate, she will like you and that will help you. It is mandatory to attend class she keeps track.
Professor Westgate puts a lot of energy into what she does which makes the class very interesting. The assignment can be confusing but the exams were fair and pretty straight foward as long you went to class and read the textbook.
There is a lot of material to memorize and work with, but if you keep up with your readings and attend lectures, you'll do very well. I had her for INDR 294 and I would definitely take her again. The bargaining stimulation is time consuming, but very rewarding.
Very quirky and enthusiastic. The course is essentially assigning fancy terminology to common-sense terms, but she makes it understandable. Need to have a solid understanding/memorization of concept lists in order to succeed on exams.
Chantal is a teacher that knows her subject really well and that likes to teach it, she really cares about the students. The material is not heavy it is mainly a memorization class, exams can be tricky (the final was not tho) or graded really harshly, learn your definitions and concept !
Don't know how to grade her. I took two courses with her and got good grades, but she shows a lot more caring than she actually does. she gives out her phone number to call anytime or email but doesn't reply or if does, shows irritated. does class work in groups which has no relations to the course. exams are hard. too much to read.
difficult to understand, unclear on topics, answers are based on her understanding although inaccurate, at times guidelines to follow very confusing and cluttered. if your late or miss class, even worse. will avoid in the future
Exams are straightforward, but she screws you over in the group project. Literally gives no useful feedback, so you think your doing fine, and then gives you a crap grade in the end. Got A's in the exams, ended up with a B thanks to her marking. Clearly has a bias towards certain students, which is extremely inappropriate
Extremely moody, exams are weird, can be easily irritated
She seems okay at the beginning. But she is super unclear on what she wants for team projects (which the teams are chosen by the prof). You have no idea what kind of mark you will get on exams/projects and pulls questions that have never been seen in class on the exam. DO NOT TAKE. Avoid at all costs.
For the love of god and yourself, DO NOT TAKE HER!!!! Final project of 25% all the class fails due to vague expectations. Exam is IMPOSSIBLE because it covers terms outside of book and slides (that should be illegal). An irrational grader. Reminds me of high school teachers.
Got 77+in midterm and final, 85+in project, ended up with B+. She doesn't round it up for you that's all. I literally changed my concentration partly to avoid her lol. Taking finance now wish me luck!
Didn't have her as a teacher per se, however the few interactions I had with her were very displeasing. She is rude, apathetic and erratic. Stay away!
Very nice professor, will do everything to help you (even take breakfast with you if you cant make it to her office hours). Uses funny references, the course is useful for your personal and professional life. Only downside is the final group project that can be so uninteresting depending on the subject you get
She means well, I'd love to be her friend, but not her student. Professor Westgate embodies her material, but the criteria are all over the place and instructions are objectively unclear in that one group will hear a set of instructions and another will hear something completely different. No one knows how to do well, it either happens or doesn't.
garbage of person, and somehow manage to be worse as professor
Professor Westgate has an amazing teaching style and personality. It was the first class that I actually wanted to attend and not skip. She is caring, funny, and engaging. Everyone in the class felt so comfortable with each other. She is a tough grader though and expects perfect definitions and examples taken from the textbook.
Nice teacher, her classes are interesting but attendance and participation is mandatory. Her group project is unclear, she gives about no information on what to do and expect a lot. Her exams are only definitions. Tough grader
Seems nice at first and classes are fun but at the end of the day your grade will depend on how much she actually likes you. clearly has class favourites and very unclear about her expectations for the group project. Most groups ended with Cs. Final exam had nothing to do with slides. Would definitely avoid her!!!
Avoid at all costs. Mandatory attendance yet she talks about her life in class, so you have to read the textbook on your own to do well. Final project criteria is so unclear that it's impossible to do well. Teams receive different info when they go see her. Exams are ambiguous; use the exact words/answers she wants, otherwise no part marks.
Absolutely awful
My worst experience at McGill. OB is a course with very interesting content, however Chantal succeeds in making you despise it. Very tough grader, you get 0 point if you don't cite specific keywords in your answer, and is extremely vague in her instructions for the group project. I definitely don't recommend taking OB with this professor.
Chantal is available for her students no matter what. She is a good lecturer. Yes there is a big project at the end but she is fair in her grading and I learned a lot through the project. I would take again
She is a wonderful prof, very caring and wants her students to succeed. She cares about being the best person and prof she can be. If you want an enthusiastic prof, especially for those 8 am classes, she is a real gem.
Instructions not clear for the project. Very tough grader
Absolutely terrible. Makes lectures mandatory only to talk about her personal life in class. Unclear instructions for the group project. Grades based on who she likes. If you are not one of her favorites, then good luck. Do yourself a favour and do not take her class.
Pls do yourself a favour and avoid at all costs. Very condescending and sarcastic... Gives assignments with no grading schemes then gives you a bad grade, adds a lot of stress to your day, ppt slides arent clear, a lot of team projects, gives good grades to the ones she likes. Many students agree & its sad. Dont be a prof if you dont like it.
Entertaining and bubbly. Speaks a lot through lectures. Mixes theoretical content with anecdotal content from her work experience. Instructions for class assignments (group and individual) are not very specific or structured. It's easy to miss out on important elements because of this ambiguity and because expectations are not clearly stated.
Chantal is all over the place. With this semester being online, students need more structure and clarity than ever before, this class caused so much stress bcs of her lack of clarity, its hard to grasp a picture of whats expected of us. She scheduled 3 online simulations literally all back to back, leaving us with no room to breathe. Terrible.
Zero clarity whatsoever, she gives confusing instructions that change almost daily and right before the project is due. Her grading rubic and her final grades make absolutely no sense
HI guys, if you are looking to be treated carelessly and unfairly, go with her. And for those who are studying so hard and looking for a good grade, just try to avoid her, cuz she is so tough to those she does not like. Tbh, she might be the most unhelpful teacher I have ever met, she grades you based on her preference. Please avoid if you can
While I do believe that Chantal has good intentions and is passionate about the topic, she is often confusing in her communications (in-class and via email) and unclear in grading criteria. On top of this, there are 3 (virtual) group simulation projects which require lots of out-of-class coordination with team members and are very time consuming.
The bargaining simulation is poorly explained considering how important it is but the worst part is the peer evaluation form. I've never seen a teacher have the groups do peer evaluation forms together, it defeats the entire point. The assignments are bad. The questions are written horribly and they ask for information that was never taught. Avoid!
Expectations unclear. Rubrics largely nonsense. Class members were PhDs who have taught and they couldn't figure it out. Content was interesting and the readings well chosen, but execution was disorganized with little consideration for student success. Group work not well thought out. Atmosphere of fear. Complete disaster. Do not recommend.
Westgate uses lecture time to talk trash about her neighboring Accounting professor, her past students, her colleagues, the Dean and proudly uses what I'd assume to be private conversations as examples. although she appears to be caring, you'd really have to be one of her favorites. the grading scheme and expectations are unclear. AVOID!!!
Ms Westgate is absolutely the worst teacher I've ever had. She gives 0 clear guidelines, and 0 feedback on our assignments. She completely refuses to meet with students even when those are really polite. This teacher is the rudest someone can be!! I dont even get how she still has her job... AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!
Prof Westgate conducted her synchronous lectures with professionalism and always tried her best to engage her students. You could tell that she loves teaching as she is so passionate about the material and takes students' concerns very seriously. Her workload and grading is reasonable and I definitely recommend her!!
Chantal is clearly passionate about what she teaches and her bargaining simulations will teach you a lot. You'll come away from the course with a good understanding of the content. However, lectures are mandatory (participation counted), there's usually a lot of work, and grading is often very unreasonable
Very nice person. If you go to class and participate, the exams will seem much more easier. She answers really fast to emails. She is always here, if you have any question. Best class at McGill and best teacher!!! I definitely recommend and still dont understand why she has a bad grade on ratemyprofessors.
All of these reviews are extremely harsh. I agree that there are too many assignments and her tests are challenging but he is passionate and extremely knowledgeable in her field. I find lectures super engaging and interesting. I think she must have gotten feedback because shes added clearer grading rubrics and proper explanations for assignments
Content is interesting but not the prof herself, who's racist and would assign groups based on diversity or white students (oh pls def not obvious). Grading is often biased unless you're some of her faves. If she wasn't one of the only few choices in Summer I wouldn't choose her. Grading mechanism is also unclear- not sure what she exactly wants.
I'm not sure why she has a bad grade on ratemyprof . . . Professor Westgate is lovely and a wonderful professor! She is always available outside of class (she even gives her personal phone number) and inside class she is very receptive to questions. Make sure you attend class for a good grade-- she explains everything you need to know!!
I am an engineering student, and I have never seen such a strict grader. Even if you get the right answers, you would get half the grade you need to talk about things that aren't explicitly mentioned in the question. If you wanna get a good grade, bombard your answers with everything you know about the question.
My absolute favorite professor here at McGill. Grades tough so you'd better be ready and willing to work but she is super passionate about what she teaches and it shows. She truly wants the best for her students as represented by her accessibility outside of class and the guest speakers she brings in. Excellent teacher and an even better person
Great prof, makes herself very available outside of class, and gives very good feedback in office hours, especially for group projects. Very clear to know exactly what material will be on the exams.
Prof Westgate is seriously amazing and cares about her students a ton. Anytime you need help (seriously 24/7) she will answer emails, texts, calls, office hours, etc., and help you in anyway she can. She prepares you incredibly well for both the midterm and final, and while the collective bargaining simulation is a lot of work, focus on having fun!
Prof. Westgate is one of the best prof I've had at McGill. She truly cares about her students, you can contact her anytime. Her grading is also very fair. The midterm and the final are not especially hard and the simulation is very interesting, although challenging. Use the slides and complete with the textbook to get all the info for those exams.
Wow! What a great prof. She is super kind and accessible for office hours. the course material is pretty simple and the only aggravating part of the class is the simulation if you have a bad group. You have to come in on a Saturday once during the semester, but it is really fun and time passes quickly.
She grades nothing herself and does not even look at anything. Everything is being graded by her TA who is an undergraduate student. On top of that, Professor Westgate refuses to answer questions about the grading, even when the grading is clearly wrong.
Prof Westgate held engaging lectures, no electronics in her class, and attendance is mandatory (5% of your grade). The course had interactives during class time that counted for credit and one group paper. Midterm very fair and so was final. OB is a very easy course and Westgate is the best prof to take it!
Chantal held engaging lectures and was very close to her students, she made class very interactive, no technology allowed. Attendance is mandatory (5% of your final grade), and interactives were held during class time which were often worth 1% of your final grade. One group paper, a midterm, and a final all were fairly easy. Chantal is best for OB
Westgate is a very fun professor, makes a lot of jokes and tells stories but mostly related to the content covered so it is relevant. Students would mostly have a great time in her classes, the exams are not hard at all if you study for it.
She is ok and she is accessible, but the grading makes no sense. The exam seems easy when you write it, but the grading is harsh in a way that is hard to understand.
At first sight she might seem like a weird teacher since she does not allow technology in her classroom but she is actually well oriented towards the students and is passionated by the subject she teaches.
Prof. Westgate is an incredible prof that truly cares about her students! If you've taken INDR 294, you'll enjoy the course; just beware that there is a lot more work in this course comprised of three simulations and two exams (not all MCQs). The simulations are very fun (especially the Arbitration) and Prof. Westgate gives great feedback to help!
She seems very nice, and I think she is and the course is interesting. BUT, the lack of transparency in the grading is huge turn off. Professor Westgate refuses to answer questions about the grading, and it is all done by a grader anyways. That's a turn off. She will literally tell you that questioning her grading reflects poorly one you.
The coursework is hard but rewarding. The grading is hard to understand. There is a lot of research involved, research in this instance means going to see Prof Westgate during office hours to actually understand what she wants from you. Luckily, no prof is more available outside of class.
Professor Westgate was very fun and really available outside of class, which was very appreciated. The course was interesting and she made it very application. It was a fun summer course.
Very interesting class, the professor is interesting and she brings in great speakers. However, the class grading is the most disorganized I have ever witnessed in my 19 years on this earth. The class isn't hard if you are extremely organized, but for people who have other things going on, this class is way more painful than necessary.
ORGB 321 with Prof. Westgate was a very interesting course that was much more focused on our growth and development as future professionals than most undergrad courses tend to be. The course work varies pretty significantly (quizzes, papers, solo in-class presentations, etc.) but really encourages you to engage in self reflection.
How does she expect us to choose the right answer on exams if its multiple choice and the answers are debatable? Her exams are not fair, but her activities are.
Professor Westgate makes lectures engaging with her fun personality and interactive activities. While attendance is mandatory, the workload is manageable. unstuck study proved a helpful supplement for my study prep.
Ms Westgate is very caring, but her quizzes are very deceiving: multiple choice, but the choices are all very similar, which makes it easy to select the wrong answer. The main end of semester project (bargaining simulation), where she gives most the important information very close to the project. Would NOT recommend as an Eng humanities elective.
This professor can be passionate and make class fun to attend, but not worth her attitude and the way she grades. Claims that she cares about her students, but really does not care at all! It's all an act. I've had multiple other people say the same about how uncaring she is about simple things. Never again
Her grading is just extremely vague, you NEVER know what to expect with her even if you get a rubric. Yes she is very accessible outside class and nice, but the grading just does not make sense to me. I think also she chooses favourites and is biased towards giving them good grades. Interesting content and teaches well, but EXTREMELY unfair grading
fun class! but her quizzes are a bit odd and the professor definitely chooses favourites and grades based on that.
If I never have to take this prof again, it would still be too soon. Heavily favourites boys in the class. Tells you your work is good in office hours and proceeds to give failing grades for sections on reports she 'approved'. While she teaches informative material, exams ask precise questions. Just get on her good side from the start to do well.
Despite clear instructions, doesn't have an idea of what she wants from students work. Go to office hours and show interest in her course to maybe be on her good side but she predetermines the grade she wants to give you. Content is super interesting, exams are not reflective of content though. Get on her good side from the start to do well.
Prof Westgate is probbaly the most accessible prof outside of class at McGill. However, she is very vague during her lectures, sometimes getting confused by her own content. She is also very vague about what she wants from her students, as she will say something but then turn on you when the grade comes back. The class is very interesting though!
She's nice, class can be interesting, and it isn't distinctively hard. But if you're in engineering trying to take an easy elective don't take this one. It will not be good for your GPA.
