Awesome teacher!! always keeps class interesting by giving good examples, etc. post powerpoints on moodle with general info, so go to class to get the details and examples that will be on the tests. take the quizes on the books website and many exam questions are copy and paste from those. the book isnt necessary but it can be definitely behelpful
Awesome class
Great teacher! Always willing to help you. Have to come to class to get notes but class is worth coming to. Exams are straight from notes.
Great teacher. Keeps things very interesting. Must go to class as there are random quizzes but they really help your grades.
Chantel was amazing. Had her for Socl Analysis, she made all the math really easy to remember and understand. Her tests are super easy as long as you always go to class and lab.
Great teacher! She makes the material easy to understand and is always willing to help if you have any questions. Go to class and lab and you should do fine!
Such a great class! Material is very easy to comprehend and remember. Tests are straight off of the notes. Just read through those and you'll get an A. She is a great teacher and super helpful and down to earth. I would take her again in a heartbeat!
Chantel's lectures were hilarious lessons in how not to put PowerPoints together. The bullet points ranged from poorly-stated definitions to downright incomprehensible commentary/analysis. But she canceled class 5 times and we burned 4 class periods watching a movie and 2 documentaries. Also, the final was given early and was noncumulative.
Loved the class..super chill…easy A if you simply answer the questions on the study guide she gives for each exam. She's always canceling class. If you need a "cushion class" I highly recommend this course. And you get to watch movies:)
Very easy. Even she will tell you not to get the book. All test material is on powerpoints. If you miss class, it's easy to get the notes. She cancels class a lot and gives the final 2 weeks earlier. I barely studied and still got A's. She's awesome and it's an easy class.
I absolutely loved her! 4 homework assignments that you need the book to complete. 4 tests, I got an A on two of them. Must go to class for notes, she doesn't post them online. She is super sweet! Very interesting class. Material isn't hard at all. Very understanding and laid back!
great teacher 10/10 recommend!
I really liked her! Her tests are from the powerpoints that she goes over in class. Class isn't mandatory but only if you have someone who can send the notes to you. Do the bonuses on moodle before each test because it makes a huge difference on your grade. I got a 42/50 on a test and with the bonus it changed to a 46/50
Dr. Chauvin is honestly one of the best professors I have ever had. Her lectures are straight from the powerpoint and class isn't mandatory if you have someone to get the notes from. Her tests are very straightforward and she gives lots of bonus. Definitely take this class.
Love this class and Mrs. Chauvin. Her class is straightforward and only tests on the material she lectures on in class. Attendance isn't mandatory but honestly it's an enjoyable class. She gives a bonus assignment on top of each test!
The Bonus assignments are very helpful as the tests are not super easy but very manageable to get an A/B on. I would recommend taking her for anyone looking to take Sociology.
I LOVED her! She's super chill and down to earth. She doesn't power the powerpoints to Moodle so go to class and you'll be fine on the exams. The bonus assignments are super easy and worth 6% points at the end so do them! Attendance isn't mandatory but she does give random bonus points in class. One of my favorite professors!
great class! she's REALLY nice, helpful & organized! 3 tests non-cummulative & gives final early. book's totally useless, u can get an A with just her lecture slides. she doesn't upload them, so u have to go to class, but they're all u need. gives 3 bonus assignments that count for 6% on top of your final grade. class notes + bonus A
I took her marriage and family class and she's the bomb. Very easy going, keeps the material interesting enough. No homework, no quizzes just test! Occasionally we would watch movies.
She's an overall cool person in general lol. Gives a study guide before each of the 3 tests which make the test easy. No papers. No quizzes. Would advise you to go to class though for her powerpoints because the tests are identical. Test are multiple choice with 6 essay questions at the end butttttt you only chose 3 of the 6 to answer. Enjoyed her.
Best Sociology professor I've taken at LSU. She has passion for Criminology, and she's really down to earth. She's young, so she relates to her students. There are three test, she gives study guides, and everything is clear cut. If you study and go to class you will pass. Plus the lectures are interesting.
She was great! She is really knowledgable on Criminology and is very enjoyable to listen to. Gives really good, current examples of what we are learning in class in her lectures. Good sense of humor and engaging. I learned a good bit and worked hard while also getting a very fair grade. This is what a professor should be!
Very good
Has a concentration in criminology. Really relaxed lecture. Easy grading.
Dr. Chauvin is so great! Her lectures are interesting and easy to follow and take notes on. She is very understanding if you need to push back your test date. The quizzes that are due online once a week are straight from your text book. The test is straight from lecture notes.
Chauvin is the best professor I've had so far at LSU. She assigns about 4 assignments that are an easy A. There are online quizzes but the answers can be found on Quilt. Tests are easy only if you read the chapters. She also curves the tests about 4 points each time. Your success in the class is based upon how well you do on the tests.
I adore Dr. Chauvin. I'm currently in the process of taking her class, and thought I would come leave her a positive review. She supplies you with all the needed information for each exam, and she is reasonable with her lesson plans. She also gives many examples so that everyone can understand. In considering taking another of her classes.
Dr. Chauvin is one of the best teachers i've every had! She is very reasonable, and doesn't surprise you with anything. Do the quizzes (easy), and the assignments (super easy!) and you will pass. Go to class to get the notes, and she only tests on what she says in class. Deciding to take this class is a no brainer!
SHE IS AMAZING
I'm a sociology major w/ a concentration in Criminology. This is an intro class, but she made it interesting. She is a criminologist, so she teaches it from more of a criminologist aspect, which I liked. She makes sure you understand and doesn't fly through the material. She lectures mostly, there are some videos, but it's not a boring class.
Dr. Chauvin is one of the best teachers I've ever had at LSU. I look forward to her class because she is hilarious, interesting, and includes personal stories to help us better understand the material. The material is pretty easy but you still should apply yourself. *I highly suggest taking her.*
Dr. Chauvin is by far the best professor I have ever had at LSU! She's so sweet, funny, and caring. I have never been more interested in a class until I took hers. She always gives great examples that apply to the material. She curves the exams and all you have to do is go to class and take notes. I recommend her 100%! She is amazing!
Dr. Chauvin is awesome! Such an easy class. Attendance isn't mandatory but she doesn't post her powerpoint slides on moodle. 2 tests and a final (non-cumulative). The test come directly from her powerpoints/mostly definitions. A moodle quiz due every week. The tests are easy and she also curves a few points (even when the test average is an 80).
One of the best professors I've had. Very nice and has a very good understanding of what she is teaching. Quizzes and projects outside of the class but they are not hard. Definitely will take her again for another sociology. For the test be sure to read the chapters and you will be fine. Only three tests!!
I LOVE HER. You don't have to go to class but I did anyway just because she's such a great teacher. Tests are tricky but not too bad if you read your textbook.
Only grades were easy connect assignments for each chapter covered and a few computer based testing center tests. Class is not mandatory but the notes are only given in class and that is solely what the tests are based on. Very kind person and cancels class occasionally.
An amazing teacher who keeps class very interesting! Lets the class off early most days. Grades come from online quizzes, assignments, a midterm, final, and second exam between them. Easy A if you go to class and take notes. Willing to help students and is available outside of class. One of the best professors I've ever had.
I really enjoyed her as a professor! She understands that the majority of her students are taking this course mainly just to fill their requirements, so her tests are not too challenging. However, you do learn a lot in the course and she has a way of making her students want to learn more despite their major!
She is a really great professor. I took her for criminology and did not have to buy the book, she has great power points, listen to her lectures and take good notes. She's really laid back and sweet. She makes class pretty interesting. She tells you the main things to look at when studying. DEFINITELY will be taking her again
Dr. Chavin is honestly amazing. Her lectures are entertaining so it doesn't feel like a burden to have to go to class. Weekly quizzes but there is almost always a quizlet. Minimal studying required to do well on tests and she almost always curves them. Get the textbook, she works straight from it. TAKE HER
-Listen to every comment below. She is definitely the teacher to take. Anyone that says she is easy isn't saying so because its that easy, its because she gives great examples and makes sure you understand everything, you still have to study. She really is a sweetheart and cares a lot. She is more than happy to help outside of class. TAKE HER!
One of the best professors I have taken so far. Homework is online and super easy. Tests come straight from the notes. She doesn't post her PowerPoints. So if you want the class to be an easy A, you have to show up and take notes. She's nice and willing to meet with you out of class if you have any questions about the material.
Easiest class i have taken at LSU by far. Will be taking her again for her Criminology and Criminal justice
If you are looking for a Gen Ed course, I would highly recommend taking Mrs. Cauvin's class. She is so funny and she makes learning the information fun. She does not post her power points online, but her class is not unbearable to sit through. If you study the notes and listen to her examples, you should do well on the test.
She seems like she is a good teacher, but her tests are pretty hard. She will ask questions on the hardest stuff from the section then proceed to ask 5 to 6 questions in a row from that material. If you have a photographic memory then you could take her and pass but the tests are harder than they need to be.
This was my favorite sociology class/professor that I've taken. She's young so she's really relatable and funny. The class is informative while also being pretty easy. She's the kind of professor I'd like to be friends with.
Favorite sociology teacher for sure! she's so organized, smart, nice, and class was really fun! definitely take her if you can, because she's awesome!
The homework was just Connect online hw - super annoying because 99% of test comes from her lectures. Material was pretty intuitive so missing class is okay, just know you'll have to really pay attention to Connect. Super easy class, watched a few movies. She's really funny and didn't make the class more than it needed to be.
Chauvin was great. You show up, take the notes, and you're ready for the tests. There weren't any tricks or anything, just the facts. I really liked her teaching style, and she made the class funny with lots of personal stories about her family.
Dr. Chauvin is the best! So nice and funny. She is willing to work around her office hours to make sure you get the help you need. Class isn't hard, beneficial to go to class and get the notes. Exams aren't hard (no trick questions). DO NOT BUY TEXTBOOK: Only reason I bought the textbook was to get the access code needed for the class ( don't use)
BEST TEACHER AT LSU! Whether you take 2505, 3371, or 4461.. anything with her is great! Amazing powerpoints to go along with fun lectures. Her tests are straightforward as well as the couple short papers you have to write. The type of class you can go to everyday and make an easy A or stay at home and get notes offline and still get an A/B.
I would have done better if I had paid attention and studied more, but she does usually post outlines to help you develop a study guide before the exam. Her lectures are engaging and relevant to her exams. In this class, we had a research project, and I actually enjoyed doing it. She also has easy written assignments that are easy grade boosters
Had her for Methods and loved it so much that I decided to take her again. Her PowerPoints are clear and relevant, and she allows enough time for you to type everything. She tells you what will definitely NOT be on the exam, & she usually provides outlines so that you can make your own study guides. Attendance not mandatory, but class is enjoyabl
I have taken her for 3 SOCL classes. She is very nice and her class is easy. Some classes her powerpoints were online, others not. There is homework but it is easy. If you take notes from her powerpoint you can make an easy A.
She cancels class a lot because she has kids. Took her for intro soci as well, often curves tests, online homework and three exams. lecture is interesting.
Chauvin is the best teacher at LSU. Took her three times and never regret it. Easy, clear instructions, straight forward tests, cares about the students, and is a fair grader. No attendance but the course material is decently interesting if you're into crime/law. A few papers but you get 90s+ easily-tests are 20 MC and 3 short answer. Easy B or A.
Tests are taken at the testing center and it is all multiple choice, some questions do end up being a bit iffy but she does curve! There is online homework for every chapter and while you can retake it as many times as you want, it does get a bit redundant and irrelevant to the tests but on the positive side it does help your grade.
Tests are fairly easy as long as you show up for class and study a day before the exam. There is online homework but it is easy, you just have to read or watch something she assigns online then write about a 1 page paper and you'll get an A! She makes the lectures extremely fun and makes a few jokes which help with the slow lectures somedays!
Chantel is the best professor. Such a carefree woman, hates being in class just as much as we do. I've never met someone who doesn't care but is also a good teacher. 10/10
This class is the baby version of SOCL 4461. No textbook because she gives you everything you need via lecture PPWs and moodle. GO TO CLASS. Because there is no textbook, you will do very poorly without taking lecture notes. 2 exams, 1 final, no quizzes, & about 6-8 writing assignments (each takes about 1hr or so). A+ grade is very attainable.
Only a few tests and assignments but her lectures are very clear and straightforward. Love her!
tests come straight from the book!
Dr. Chauvin is amazing and probably the best professor at LSU.
She teaches exactly by the textbook, so you could skip class and take notes from the book if you want. Nothing was difficult, and she was overall really good.
Side comments during lectures are the best! There are a couple papers, but each is only one page and she gives really interesting subjects. She's a my favorite murder fan (which is the best). Would take any class she teaches on crime, I'm a criminology major. 10/10 my fav teach
Great class and her tests are straightforward! Would love to take her again.
She was a really great professor! The only reason I got a lower grade was that I forgot to do one of the "journals". In order to do well you have to go to class and take notes. If you do this you will do well in the class!
Dr. Chauvin is by far the BEST professor at LSU. I take her any chance I get. She is passionate about the subject matter and is extremely knowledgeable in what she teaches. Her lectures are easy to follow and very relevant to the course and exams. Take notes and go to class (it's always worth going to class, as her lectures are the BEST).
Chauvin is, in my opinion, the best sociology professor at LSU. She's really caring about your grade and understands that life happens and can get in the way of school. Has to cancel sometimes because her kids are in school, but she still covers everything. She doesn't grade super hard-- she just wants to make sure you know the important stuff.
She knows what shes talking about, but makes the notes seem a lot easier than what is on the test. Id go in feeling confident and get a bad grade. When I went in to office hours she just told me that i needed to learn how to study which didn't help. The class was basically how to become a cop rather than studying criminals.
Tests were hard. Did not give extra credit. Would not take again.
My least favorite class at LSU. Grade based mainly on tests. If you do bad on one, its hard to bring up. She doesnt give any bonus. .
She is the best, lectures are interesting and she lectures like she is having a normal conversation. She grades super easy, and makes the exams exactly from the notes she gives in class.
Easy A. Attendance is not mandatory, but exam questions come DIRECTLY from powerpoint notes. 2 exams and a final. 6 writing assignments that take about an hour each and are easy. Take her. She is interesting. If you copy her powerpoint notes and study for the exams you will get an A+
No bonus. No participation. Only exams worth 80 % of your grade and homework on research articles worth 20%.
Grades consist of article quizzes, online textbook quizzes & tests. Tests are all from notes. Doesn't post notes, so either make friends or a google doc, or GO TO CLASS. online txtbook quizzes are participation. Article quizzes are not hard at all, just have to understand the readings. Lecture is kind of boring and not too interesting, but decent
She's my favorite sociology professor. Genuinely enjoys teaching the subject, and although she doesn't post her notes her lectures are actually interesting so there really is no reason for anyone to be skipping classes. Plenty of time to do assignments. She's friendly and remembers faces outside of class. I signed up for another class she teaches
The class is really low-stress and laid-back. Dr. Chauvin is really cool and doesn't make you buy the HSS book that is useless and costs like $60. There are a few assignments but they are really easy. The only downside is that missing class really hurts your grade, but it's a really chill class and I never dreaded it.
this was an awesome class to take as an incoming freshman in the field of HSS with LSU. she is a great teacher and person to get advice from!!
One of my best professors of the semester. Really easy and laidback class. Her lectures are pretty funny and the only ones I really cared for.
One of my favorite professors at LSU. Super kind, easy to understand, and very fair tests. Highly recommend
Loved her class! Im minoring in Sociology and interested in criminal justice, so I really enjoyed her class. Her tests are based on the PowerPoints (that she DOESNT post online) so while attendance isnt mandatory, its smart to go to class. Shes funny and gives good side comments during the lecture. Will be taking her again.
The hardest thing about this class was finding reliable sources for the weekly discussion board, but if all else failed, you could always just cite the textbook. Overall, class was easy and taught me a lot- would suggest. I slacked off and skipped assignments and still scraped out a B-.
I didn't really like her class. She never seemed like an approachable professor. No extra credit or extension opportunities. The class wasn't too bad but she was heavy on weekly discussion boards which I feel were a wasted opportunity. Wouldn't recommend for those trying to get an easy A or slack off.
Professor Chauvin takes the cake with the worst professor I've ever had. She does not care about her students in any way & has no heart regardless of what situations you may face. Even in the current situation of the world, she will not extend an assignment. Show up, do the work you'll pass, but don't miss an assignment or class.
Overall easy class and decent prof
Very easy class and if you read the syllabus you will have no problem. The podcasts at the end were really interesting!
You will only have chapter assignments every other week, based on the textbook. The questions are very easy to answer, use your notes, powerpoints, or textbook. There are 3 exams and are extremely difficult to pass. All exams are in class, no moodle. Exams are mostly multiple choice with two choices of written response.
HSS 1000 is very very easy. You do not do much work besides a weekly assignment that takes <30 minutes. 10/10 class. Most HSS students are just placed into this as freshman, but if able to definitely take this.
HSS1000 is a great class and I loved taking it with Dr. Chauvin. Weekly homework is easy and does not take long to complete. She will answer any questions you give her if you need help. Attendance isn't mandatory bc she posts her stuff online. I would recommend this class to any HSS freshman. Very nice and would take her again!
Ms. Chauvin was a chill professor, lectures were interesting. Only grades are the article quizzes (which are easy) and 3 exams, so very exam heavy. Doesn't post full notes online or record lectures so attendance is mandatory. Overall, harder than your average SOCL class but very doable if you study beforehand.
one of the best professors I have taken so far. great lecturer. notes for exams are only given on ppts in class so don't miss class often. go to class, write everything down from the ppt, and you should do okay in the class.
Chauvin was wonderful! I've done well on all the tests just by studying ppt notes, so make sure you go to class and take thorough notes. She's very open to conversation in class, and also gives occasional articles/quizzes, but those are pretty easy/interesting as well. I'd recommend this course!
Dr. Chauvin is very passionate and knowledgeable about what she is teaching - which is ideal for learning. Attendance is basically mandatory if you want to get the notes that she covers in class.. she also takes attendance every so often at random times. I think she is fair and her class is not too difficult if you put in the effort.
She is such a good teacher and her classes are so enjoyable. She's super funny and very passionate about what she teaches. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she does include things in class that aren't on her powerpoints. Her assignments and tests are very straightforward and easy if you study.
Dr. Chauvin is probably my favorite professor I have had at LSU. Loved her lectures, and learned a lot from the class. The quizzes are 30% of your grade, and assuming you do the reading you should be fine for them. Tests are difficult, but mostly come from the textbook quizzes online. Take this class!
Take Chauvin! Her lectures were always pretty interesting; she loves class feedback/stories and is overall super engaging. If you take pictures or notes on the PPTs, you'll ace the exams. You don't have to read the textbook. You also get to drop any 1 of the 4 exam grades; I got to drop the final (not take it at all!). She's a gem, take her!!
Spent every class taking lots of notes on P.P, ultimately giving a lot of material to spend studying for exam. Most of which wasn't even on the exam. She made the class interesting but made the exams difficult. She gave reading quizzes that were super easy and was the main reason I was able to keep my grade up.
I have taken 3 online course with Dr. Chauvin. On one of our first papers, I was bummed because I received a poor grade. However, now I am grateful she made the comments she did. They prepared me for future writing assignments which resulted in greater understanding & a higher score. I respect her a lot.
Dr Chauvin was not approachable and seemed to care less about her online class. We were treated like idiots when we asked questions. I've never reviewed a professor or disliked one- especially an online professor- but i felt it necessary. Her reviews look decent if you take a class on campus. Maybe she's more relatable in person. I surely hope so.
Awesome professor and human. Her lectures are interesting and funny, and the exams are straight-forward and easy (if you study at least a little bit). Definitely do the assignments that she assigns because they can boost your grade if you fumbled the bag on an exam. Love Dr Chauvin
This class was literally so boring and useless. I guess it was a GPA booster, but I have never been more bored in my life. I haven't learned a single new thing. This class is all about how to study and take notes but, I already know how to do those things so like??
I really loved Professor Chauvin. She is very funny and seems to care about her students in my in-person class. I just wish she had more opportunities for points. Your grade only comes from 3 tests and 10 quizzes (she drops the lowest score). So you really need to study for the exams or you're screwed.
Such a great teacher! I would definitely take one of her classes again. Very clear weekly assignments due every Sunday. Normally consists of an easy one page paper. She does require us to attend 2/3 CAS Events and write a 1-2 page reflection paper on it. Final is also a reflection paper on your success that semester in and out of the class.
She takes this course VERY seriously, but it was an easy course and a gpa booster. It's one hour a week and a guaranteed A. You have to write one paper each week, but they're easy. Two times throughout the semester you have to attend these lectures outside class on random topics, but that's also easy. But don't take her for sociology, she's strict.
Dr. Chauvin is an amazing teacher for sociology. Her class is lecture heavy but the material is so interesting and she is very funny! She really cares about us understanding the material and will figure out the answer to any question we ask her! Love Dr. Chauvin highly recommend. The tests are not difficult as long as you study!
This class was a good gpa booster but useless. I felt she could have been a little more lenient or understanding on if work was turned in late considering the assignments are topics like "how to take notes". I didn't prioritize this class like I did others which is why I had a B.
Dr. Chauvin is a fun lecturer who keeps the class interested by offering stories and research outside of the slides. If you want to do well you'd need to go to class or have someone there who can take notes for you. Lecture heavy and very hard to reach outside of the classroom but still a good class
Love love love Professor Chauvin! She is an incredible and very engaging professor. If you are interested in crime studies at all I would take her class. The class does not have many grade opportunities, only reading quizzes (on Moodle) and tests, but as long as you go to class and take good notes, you should do fine.
I've taken Professor Chauvin for two different classes and both were really enjoyable. The tests are extremely straight-forward. You don't need to buy the textbook, just take notes and you'll have everything you need. I definitely recommend taking her when you can if you're a sociology major and also if you just need an easy elective.
While I did not do amazing in this class I really enjoyed the lectures and her as a professor. Even though attendance is not mandatory, go to class because the course revolves around the lectures and she does not post the lectures on Moodle. That was my downfall, but she is great.
GO TO EVERY CLASS. if you miss class get the notes because she does not give you a power point so you need to take notes for every lecture that will show up on the exam. The quizzes are worth nothing and you are primarily graded on three exams that will make or break ur grade
GO TO CLASS! Attendance is not mandatory, but it's easy to fall behind if you stop going to class. Her tests are very straightforward and fairly easy to ace as long as you study the lecture notes/material.
dr. chauvin is one of the best professors on campus! she is funny, understanding, and fun to have conversations with! exams are very straight-forward as long as you study the notes from lectures. she does not post lecture notes online, so attendance is basically mandatory. overall, she's a super nice lady and wants the best for all of her students
The homework assignments were based on readings and podcasts posted on moodle. They are very easy to get good grade on just make sure to hand in on time , lowest one will be dropped. The test was based directy from PowerPoints and class lectures. So either go or get the notes from someone in class.
Dr. Chauvin is a great professor but the class itself is boring. However, she is very funny and makes all lectures engaging, even if it's a boring topic. Strict, but if you have a good reason then she will allow late HW and excuse absences (with proof). Would def take her for a SOCI class, super nice!
I would not recommend taking her class. Her online class was horrible and she graded extremely tough. Every email I sent to her, I received a horrible attitude from her and felt a belittling tone within her emails. Her "exams" are essays and she never gave clear instructions on what she actually wanted from it.
Dr. Chauvin is super funny and engaging. She's very approachable and easy to understand, with lots of explanations and examples. Her tests and assignments are easy, especially if you go to class. It's not required, but she sometimes gives extra credit to those who go. I would 100% take her again!
Dr. Chauvin is super chill, this class was super easy just make sure you don't slack off. There's reading quizzes (very easy) every couple of weeks and the test are pretty easy as long as you look at your notes a couple of times before testing. Overall interesting class and great teaching! Attendance isn't mandatory but you can earn extra credit.
She is one of my favorite professors I have ever had. Only 3 exams and the final is not cumulative. Gives homework and drops the lowest grade, very easy. Attendance is not mandatory, but I would recommend going to every class, because she does not post lectures and if you are sick will not send them to you, you have to get a classmate to.
She is a great professor personality wise. She has 3 tests, one of which is a non-cumulative final. There are also short assignments every couple chapters. Should definitely attend class and take notes since she does not give out her PowerPoints. She did give some bonus points for attendance, but randomly. Overall great class.
She is a great teacher. I rarely went to class and i got the grade that I got. Lectures are good, interesting, however there are times that bored me. went to class 3 times and her exams are in person. Easy to get in touch with her outside of class. exams multiple choice writing response. The exams are common sense as long as you take notes.
It is not required to attend class but you absolutely should if you want a good grade. She does not post notes anywhere. My only critique is that the tests weigh so heavily vs assignments that if you bomb one test you're basically screwed. I got a D on one, aced the other two and the assignments but still got a B because tests are worth 75%.
I have had Chauvin twice and her classes are pretty easy. there is typically a short essay due once every two to three weeks or so and there are three exams in total which consist of 20 multiple choice and 4 short answer but you only have to answer 2/4. only con is she does not post lectures so you kinda need to go to class.
The first exam will whoop you, but luckily the assignments do help and the other exams are a bit easier. She does not post her lectures, so you have to go to class enough to grasp the material. She's super nice and understanding though!
Great professor, her lectures are interesting. The exams and quizzes are straightforward. If you put some effort into studying you'll do fine in the class.
She's a super passionate teacher and loves what she does. Also, she uses the Oxford comma so automatically made me a fan.
She is the best!
You're only graded on quizzes and exams. Quizzes don't hold much weight to your grade and there is no extra credit. Make sure you attend every lecture and make a friend if you miss class. She will not send you lectures if you miss and she does not upload any of her lectures to Moodle. Exams are in class make sure you study the material can be dense
Professor Chauvin's lectures are engaging. Exams are straightforward if you stay on top of the material. unstuck AI was a big help for study prep alongside the class notes.
She's awesome! Her class is really easy and actually helps out with other classes! A lot of writing papers!
Professor Chauvin teaches a very interesting course which I find to be more enjoyable. she herself of well informed and many of the “papers” you write will be based off podcast episodes that relate to the class material. There is only 3 tests so be prepared for each one.
Probably my favorite professor and easiest class. Attendance is mandatory but you usually get out early and it's only for an hour a week. No tests or midterm or final exam. Assignments are easy and due on Sundays, and her lectures are informative. There's usually one assignment a week and you only have to write 250 words. The GOAT.
She is one of the few professors who genuinely cares about her students. Lectures were engaging, test were hard but if you study you will be fine. Show up, take notes, ask questions and you will pass.
Exams are completely based on lecture, so don't skip. Lectures make material easy to understand. Makes going to class class fun and engaging, and gives cool assignments to make sure you're learning the material
Just show up and listen to lecture and you should pass. All quizzes are slightly textbook heavy and all test are strictly lecture heavy. Though you are recommended to buy the textbook, I made it without buying it. Used Quizlet to study as her test are situational examples and you apply the term/ definition.
Very easy class. Don't need to get the textbook. Exams are easy if you study the lecture notes and she curves.
Professor Chauvin is one of the best professors that LSU has to offer. She truly cares about the students. She ends class early a lot. Quizzes every week, but they are only 5 questions. Go to the lectures! I would recommend reading the textbook. I read TB and ended with a 98. Tests are sometimes confusing, but easy!
Just take it online. Easy A if you put in good effort but if not a B+. I get an A in ochem but a B in sociology. Quizzes are a waste and so is the textbook. There's a professor that gives a pdf for the textbook forgot his name but there's better options out there.
Very easy to do well in this class! She makes sure that the lectures are easy to understand and interesting. Make sure to attend class, exam questions come strictly from lecture notes!
Second class I've taken Dr. Chauvin for and she has been such a breath of fresh air both times. Very organized with clear criteria. Attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended; she does not post powerpoints so you will miss lots of info if you do not attend. A few assignments, but your grade is 75% tests. Come to class and take notes!
Dr. Chauvin is a very caring and forgiving professor. Attendance wasn't mandatory but it was taken randomly for extra credit, and she gave extra credit for those who went to SI sessions. The Moodle quizzes aren't usually on Quizlet and you only have one attempt, but doing Ctrl + F in the textbook helps. She curves exams and final isn't cumulative.
Good! Feels more like high school since all the material you need to know for the test is given in the lectures. Entertaining lectures & always willing to repeat stuff! Grade entirely based on 3 MC tests & ~10 quizzes (some dropped). Final is 1 of 3 tests & NOT cumulative. Easy concepts. Learn vocab. I recommend book, mainly for quizzes. Small EC.
Great professor but definitely by the book. Clear expectations are set prior to class beginning. Lots of homework and discussion forum posts using ASA citation. No exceptions for late work. Two exams. Hybrid/online course summer mod 1 2025. Will be taking again. Prioritize your work and follow the syllabus. You will be fine. Highly recommend
Very interesting lectures and super cool. I want to be friends with her! Every lecture is very important so while attendance is not mandatory, she does NOT repost the lecture notes. So either find a friend or just go to class.
Dr. Chauvin is awesome. She doesn't post lecture slides to Moodle, but as long as you attend the class, the tests and quizzes should be a breeze. She always reads from the textbook during lectures, just make sure to write down any sidebar comments. You can tell she enjoys teaching the subject, very easy class, would take again.
I loved her! I am taking another course with her this semester. Attendance is not mandatory but you will not do well on assignments and tests if you do not go to class and get her notes. She is very understanding if you need something. Also a very funny and relatable person. One of my favorites on campus!
CHANTEL was extremely passive aggressive. her tests are timed with one minute per question, you are not allowed to go back and review any of your answers. she does not give any notes and the powerpoints that she does use has NO information on them. at this point she might as well give me a SHEET OF TOILET PAPER to look at to study for her exams.
I really enjoyed this class! Attendance wasn't mandatory, but it was highly beneficial, and Dr. Chauvin is a really entertaining lecturer. The only assignments for the entire semester were tests and quizzes on moodle, but she did give out bonus for attendance some days. Not the easiest class, but it's passable if you put in effort and show up.
Pretty interesting class, she was pretty funny, sometimes blunt. Tests are timed, and you can't go back on questions.
Dr. Chavin was OK. She knows her stuff, but her notes were not very helpful for the exams which are worth 75% of your grade. Attendance is not mandatory, but I highly recommend going because she talks about a LOT of things in class that are not in the textbook but are on the exams. Quizzes are easy because you can find the answers in the textbook.
