Want to get an easy A? Take Dr. Coston!
great class. kinda scary how much she knows about serial killers.
Do as she asks and you will pass-must read into what she is saying
Ok, if you think you can suck up, she's for you. Definitely has her favorites.
The class is very easy...You even have to buy the books. Test comes straight from her notes...Just make sure u go to class and take good notes..Easy A.
teacher can't make up her mind on assignments, she doesn't go by her word. If you want to not have a mind of your own take her she'll tell you her way....even how to kiss her ass. A definite !@$%$ wouldnt recommend!
She is enthusiastic and hilarious! She makes class fun, by brining in speakers from all aspects int he criminal justice field.
Great professor... knows her stuff well and is good at conveying her messages. Would definitely recommend her to someone that has a thirst for knowledge!
Very easy. Very interesting. Knows her stuff. Tests are a little tricky, but she grades very easily on projects and essays.
Don't buy the book she lectures the entire time and sit in the front row she is hard to understand bc she mummbles. Don't take if you like to skip classes just don't take her
she mumbles. she reads her lectures straight from a piece of paper. can't teach. she does not care, or try to help. very disrespectful to students
Very interesting. You must have the notes though. Don't bother buying the book. Tests are tricky. Make sure you read all of the choices. If you come to class or at least get the notes, you will be fine. An easy "A or B".
Love the subject matter, but the class was hard. I had to study a lot for the three test. Test are tricky, but class is interesting.

This teacher rarely stays on course, and doesn't teach what you are probly expecting to be a introduction course. She goes into a lot of theories, and uses a lot of off the wall percentages and goes in an order that doesn't make sense at all. Unless this is your major, and even then, avoid her!!
She cannot command the classroom. No disipline for little kids who talk. She is unclear, does indeed cancel class a lot, and only makes her TA avaible for help. Tests are pretty easy though, but come to class and take notes. Btw, her "textbook" is pure crap. I'd suggest someone else for CJUS1101.
Class is fairly easy if you have the notes. She does tend to cancel class, but that is expected for family matters. Don't buy the book. The class has some quite interesting material, surely not what you would expect from intro. She is a decent lady eventhough she just gives notes.
TESTS ARE VERY VERY VERY EASY IF YOU TAKE GOOD NOTES AND STUDY!!!!!!!!!
This class is required for my major. I came out of it feeling like I knew LESS then what I came into it. She knows NOTHING about the subject. The book is complete waste of time and money. If you can don't take her. If you have too.... goodluck.
Easy easy easy, and so nice. Easy A or B. She has such an odd personality it is hillarious. She's great, take her class.
I took this teacher my freshman year and I definetly don't agree with the last person's comments. This class was TOO easy and the tests come straight from the notes. Only way you could NOT do good is to NOT come to class and take notes, if you take the notes, you'll get a good grade!
this professor gives from experience through travel, actually being involved. Asked her what she wrote her thesis on. you maybe surprise. A highly qualified and deserving PHd. Another Courttv analyst
She is a good teacher
this class could not have been more b-o-r-i-n-g! i haaaaaated it, and it showed because i got a C.
No one should have a problem passing this class if you actually go. Boring at times but easy.
I thought she was a great professor, her lectures were interesting and her stories were captivating. She only has three tests that determine the whole grade...but there is extra credit availible. If you take notes and study a little, you will easily make an A or a B
attendance is a must...the odder the material the more she loves it and the better she discusses it...not afraid of sensitive topics...personnable...tolerate of others viewpoints...tests are mainly from lecture notes...if you are open to different ways of thinking about something she is the one to take...talks to fast at times...but ok
We were in a large class, and she lectured like we were in a tiny class, I could not understand anything!
This professor was one of the worst I have had during my 4 years at UNCC. The class consisted of groups of two teaching a few chapters out of a designated book. She lectured maybe twice, that was it. I learned by teaching myself. Both books required were about 300 pages each. Three tests, final with essays questions from the book. Save your money!
she's an okay teacher. gives alot of notes but if you understand whats going on then you'll do fine on the test. sometimes you cant hear her in the big lecture hall. but she answers questions and welcomes discussion. attendance isnt a must. you can always get the notes from someone else. grading is pretty easy. class isnt that bad C or better
Dr. Coston was a good teacher. Although she had little to no emphasis on teaching, I learned a lot in her class, some of which i had speculations about. If you attend class, take good notes and make sure you are there for the extra credit stuff, you should pass.
She gives alot of notes. Half the time they aren't even related to the test tho. You only have 3 test and thats it...so if u dont do well on them then u r screwed. There is no final exam
Best professor! She really knows what she is talking about. Class was very interesting.
Great professor. She knows alot about serial murder. Was very helpful when I couldn't deal with the subject. Test are pretty easy. I recommend taking her class!!
Loved the class and love her. Not too keen on driving all over creation and getting lost a time or two, but I totally enjoyed the experience of touring the prisons. Take the class... it's an awesome experience seeing death row and the gurney used for lethal injections. Dr. Coston ROCKS!!!
She teaches in a lecture style. If you pay attention, take notes, and study then the tests are a breeze. She's very knowledgeable and is fun to listen to.
Awesome teacher! She knows what she is talking about & is very helpful. Show her respect she will show it back. She enjoys all her students and will complement you on a good job done. She is a little spacey at times but she is very nice and is knowledgeable about almost everything in CJ! She does alot on this campus if you ask you will be surprised
I took the learning community class and had a lot of fun in it. She is great and knowledgeable. Take her if you can. Not very organized but VERY VERY EASY!
Vey knowledgeable, helpful and you can tell that she loves what she does. Research she is doing is interesting. Comlimets you when you have done well. Like that it is an o and w come to class, participate and you will do well. I wish that she would offer serial murder since she is so knoweable about it. makes a dull course exciting. Take her
Happy to have such a diligent professor...learned a lot about oral and written presentation. made the class fun. Shared who she is and we felt comfortable with speaking in class and told about who we were during assignments. A must take class. She made it all worth while. dedicated to her teaching
Had her for the learning community, she is overall a good teacher. she makes you do alot of papers, but they are overall really easy.
Makes the class super interesting. I'm already interested in the subject but she made me really excited about learning more. Class is really easy, all films and guest speakers are interesting. Got to see a police K-9 demo. Attendance is not required but this is one class that I don't mind going to. Take this class!!!
Very interesting! You can tell she cares about her students and draws them into the major. She has a gracious style of interweaving material thru guest speakers, notes, exams and the k-9 demonstration. cl Recoomend her highly. She respects all points of view...kinda quirky and it adds to her ambience in a large class of 300.
Fantastic course and professor
good teacher and is helpfuland knowledgeable. take her if you can
Very easy class. Makes the subject fun. You watch a lot of videos which help you understand some of the topics. There are only 3 tests each with extra credit.
You must come to class, ask questions and take good notes...not very easy but about average...good teacher...liked the variety of course materials she used to demonsrate points. take her...but you must come to class
You do have to come to class and take good notes, but its really not hard to make an A. All she expects from you is to review your notes and ask questions when you don't understand something. Offers extra credit. Good overall understanding of CJUS!
easy class! don't have to go, except i'd go if she's lecturing. leave if there's a movie or guest speaker (they're not on the tests). she always lets out early. no textbook required. extra credit for showing up to a police k-9 demonstration during class (easy, just have to go). tests are multiple choice and easy if you review ppts.
loved this course and professor. if you do not or have not worked in a cj job then you use a place you have worked in...she handled the class well and was a little bit more difficult than i thought ut i can use this at my job and any job that i ave in the future. class attendance is mandatory. I like her style.
she is understanding and helpful and very knowledgeable in her field...take her if you can...i am a fan
good teacher
Very thourgh and easy to understand...students seem to be her focus...research is interesting...very encouraging to students...not a push over...take her before you graduate8466
Loved her...the examples were funny and she kept my interest every day
scarey how much she knows about this subject...very helpful...nice...interesting and a little qwirky...so time flies just listening to her and others ract..take her...
Had Mrs Coston for my first criminal justice class. her class is part of the reason i switched from psych to cj as my major. super sweet, funny, and laidback professor (she wore sweat pants to class alot) . class is an easy A. only 3 tests all semester. highly recommend!!
She has a soft spot for teaching keep her I learned a lot from her in serial murder and she was a partner in my learning
Wasn't sure what I wanted to major in, but she definitely helped me decide! She's really nice and funny. Isn't afraid to touch any subject and only gives three exams with extra credit. Has a lot of fun stuff planned like inmates coming in, FBI, police, etc. Super easy class! Definitely enjoyed it!
Very attentive to students and will help in any wasnot a push over but a nice class which forces you to learn without intimidation
liked her diligence and assistance. Was not easy but if follow her direction and knowledge you will do well. very interesting prof. It show that she cares
I love Dr. Coston! She is great and very helpful. It was a pleasure taking a class with her and look forward to take more classes. She really care for students.
The class has nothing to do with Criminal Justice. I did not learn anything but how to write the paper that is due at the end of class.
It is her class so she can say because I said so. I think that she is smart and loved the class
She's nice, lectures are easy in the sense that there's no participation and we get out of class early a lot. She can be confusing though in lectures and rambles. We watched a lot of videos and had some guest speakers. We don't really have review sessions for exams and they're pretty hard. She won't go over exams with you after the test is taken.
Good teacher. Always there to help. Easy A. Only 3 tests that are 35 questions each.
challenging class excellent lectures
Only grades in the class are 3 exams. Tests are easy if you take notes and study. Tests are 35 multiple choice. Gives a few extra credit points if you go to class. She shows several movies and has several guest speakers. Great class and great professor. Would absolutely take again! Attendance not mandatory and textbook not needed
Great interest Great professor 2
She has experience in the field, so she knows what she is talking about and provides good insight. Has guest speakers. Attendance not mandatory. Will do anything to help you, if you ask.
I was really excited to take this class, but it really disappointed. The worst thing that happened this semester was the online book she made us buy, but then told us not to use it after test 2 and we didn't get a refund. This class isn't attendance based, but I would really suggest going because the tests are hard.
Great class. Thought her book was great.
Loved her and her class. She really cares if you get it:)
interesting class
Good class. Liked the paper of my work even though it is not criminal justice. Take her
I liked the way she taught we got written and oral credit. It was a lot of worl but it was all well worth it.
liked the number of graded assignments
enjoyed the class. enjoyed the professor wish every one read the material
loved the professor extra credit helps
no intellectual bullying..i liked this
Thought this class was easy as long as you go to class. Just the paper and the presentation is your grades. She literally tells you exactly what to put in the paper if you go to class. Would've gotten an A But I used an outline during the presentation
Literally the easiest class. You receive oral and written intensive credit. She tells you very specifically what you need to do. You spend the semester writing one paper and then present at the end of the semester. She will read over your paper and help you make sure it's the best it can be. Starting in late October, class is only 20 minutes long
This was easily my favorite class I have ever taken. She was so great, that I wanted to go to class! You spend every class working on parts of your 10-12 page paper so that you present it towards the end. While you are not required to go to class for the first couple of months, you should since that is where you get all of your information from.
Easy A if you show up most of the time and study. Her powerpoints are pretty useless, but she does post slides. I was able to use Quizlets to get most of my study material to prepare for her tests. Offers a handful of extra-credit opportunities throughout the semester. Only graded on 4 tests which were 50 questions each.
She's pretty easy. Tests aren't too bad but make sure you go to class. Some of the information on her slides is not all there. The extra credit questions are given throughout the section. Only has four tests. The last test is the final.
Best class/professor ever! Very interesting and tests are simple if you pay attention and take good notes
Dr. Coston says from day one that you won't pass if you dont come to class. And she means it. Come to EVERY class, and take really solid notes and you'll get an A. She also gives you two extra credit questions before each test WITH THE ANSWERS - Get those two correct and you can miss up to 4 others without losing ground. Definitely worth your time
Shes literally amazing take her
Professor Coston is my favorite professor. Her lectures are interesting and engaging. It is lecture style with 4 tests and extra credit making up your final grade. With a decent level of effort you should excel in this class.
This class was an easy A. You basically write one paper throughout the whole semester one portion at a time. You do 5 mini presentations one each section of the paper and then have 5 quizzes on each section of the paper. Then you present the whole paper at the end and that's it. Her PPs are online but they are unclear if you do not go to class.
Professor Coston is a little difficult when it comes to teaching students lecture material. This class is based on a semester long paper and its graded by quizzes, mini presentations, and a final presentation. I would recommend to not skip any classes and get as much information as you can. Its easy and its not too difficult. Take the class
Attendance does become mandatory during the four quizzes and mini and final presentation. Even though, Dr. Coston provides power points for each section of the paper that you practically write during class (draft). It is best to be in class for an in depth understanding, examples, and questions for a better understanding of the sections.
Dr. Coston is a great teacher! I absolutely loved being in her class my first semester at UNCC. Her tests (Four, with two extra credit questions each) make up your entire grade. She will tell you that her tests come 100% from lectures, and she means it. You will need to take a ton of notes and pay close attention to what she says in class!
Since class is virtual she posted powerpoints with imbedded lectures. In the beginning it was fun but when there were powerpoints without her speaking it got boring fast. She is very straightforward and there are only 4 tests that are turned in. She does give extra credit so USE IT.
Take four tests and move on. No other assignments. If you are just looking for an easy class with little to no workload, this is for you. If you are a criminal justice major or want to learn the material, I would stay clear.
There are four tests in this class, that is it. No other assignments, no homework, so this class has pretty much zero workload. In class, she will either show a documentary or lecture (mostly lecture). The information she shares during these lectures will be on the test, so it's important to attend the lectures. She's very knowledgeable.
This professor will make you enjoy learning! Her tests are not difficult at all as long as you attend the lectures and take notes. You will definitely enjoy her course. I'd recommend it as a pretty easy A for anyone, regardless of whether Criminal Justice is your major or not.
She had 4 tests and those were the only 4 grades for the semester. She is a good lecturer and keeps your attention with very interesting material. Make sure you pay attention in class and take diligent notes and you will be just fine.
I would definitely recommend taking this professor! Made me excited to learn! There are only 4 exams, so there's no workload except of course studying for the exams. The exams are pretty easy as long as you attend the lectures and take good notes. She makes the lectures interesting and also occasionally has documentaries for the class to watch.
Very interesting lectures and documentaries shown. There are only 4 test grades total so no homework, classwork, etc. The tests are pretty straightforward and come from her lectures for the most part. A few extra credit assignments offered.
I love Dr. Coston! She is an amazing teacher and you can tell that she is well versed in the information that she teaches. You need to show up to class for her lectures because that is what the test is made up of. The PowerPoints are also sometimes hard to read without her lectures and input. We watched documentaries and were visited by felons.
Dr. Coston is an amazing professor and very knowledgeable. The entire class is lecture-based and you are only graded on 4 tests. The tests come straight from the lectures and the slides are posted onto Canvas. She gives opportunities towards the end of the semester to get up to 8 points of extra credit. If you study for the tests you should pass :)
Dr C is very knowledgable, and teaches the information really well. There are no assignments, only tests and optional extra credit assignments. She posts the lecture slides online but I still recommend going to class as she sometimes gives definitions that aren't on the slides, and even hints at extra credit test questions.
Very friendly and knowledgeable woman. Lectures could be boring sometimes, but overall they were entertaining, and the information was fascinating. The only graded things were tests, but an extra credit assignment was offered. Multiple guest speakers that had a lot to share and gave a lot of insight into CJUS.
Professor Coston is a phenomenal professor and an expert in the Criminal Justice field, her lectures are engaging and entertaining (also easy to understand). However, her notes are purely based on the lectures, and (given this was an online course), the test questions would be out of order (they were shuffled on each persons test). Overall, 8/10.
Online course that consist of four exams and one final presentation. The first exam will be due about a week and a half after the first day of class. You have to read two books for the first three exams and test four is an essay question. I managed to pass the class with a B and didn't do much of the reading but that might not work for you so......
Professor Coston was pretty good, she was thoughtful into all of her work and truly knew what she was talking about. The only down-side to this class is that we only have tests, there are no other assignments to boost your grade so you need to study, but as long as you review the presentations you should be good.
Dr. Coston is an amazing professor that knows what she's talking about. She works in the criminal justice field and her lectures are interesting and keep you engaged. The class itself is not too hard but it's a lot of information to remember so pay attention during review. She also tends to make some mistakes on tests but gives points back for it.
A very caring and nice prof, class is a lot of memorization but as long as you have notes the tests are pretty easy. She is a great teacher with lots of experience. Thought it would be a boring elec. class but was actually interested in what we learned. P good communication, and made mistakes with the tests a lot but she would fix it quick
She was a great teacher but the only grades for this class is tests. They are 100% off the slides which she goes over in class (they are also posted in canvas).
This class wasn't too difficult overall, but your grade is determined by just 4 tests. The test questions can be very specific, so make sure to pay attention closley during the lectures. She does review classes that tell you what will be on the test and goes over the entire unit in depth. The first few weeks, she will let you go early most classes.
Only grades were the 4 unit tests. Every test had an extra credit question and she gave multiple other extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. Many guest speakers spoke with the class that were very interesting. Professor heavily knows the information she is teaching and is very willing to answer all questions.
Good prof! I like that she doesn't use a txtbook & brings in guest speakers & shows films in class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you should go to class bc your only grades are 4 exams. As long as you go to class and study the material you will do great. Dr. C is very knowledgeable. She will go over what you should study.
Honestly, if your not good at tests, steer clear of this professor. I got a 74 on the first test and I was trying to get my grade up the entire semester. ONLY 4 TESTS, NOTHING ELSE. There was one extra credit assignment at 11:59 am instead of pm, and I missed it because I read the time wrong. Take a weekend to study for the test, u need the grade.
Professor Coston is very knowledgeable and makes the lectures engaging. With only 4 exams as the grades, the class is manageable if you attend and take good notes. unstuck ai was super helpful for test prep.
If you attend class, it is very easy. While she does provide a copy of her slideshow, attending the lecture and taking notes is important to succeed, as she often "fills in" areas of the notes in class. You get a PDF copy of the textbook, but the questions are solely from the lectures.
Dr. Coston is a great professor. Attendance isn't technically mandatory, but the tests are dependent on what she says in class. You will want to take a LOT of notes on essentially everything she says. However, as long as you study your notes, you will get an A in her class. She also brings some guest lecturers and puts on interesting documentaries.
Dr. Coston is a great professor! Her lectures were very informative and she is very passionate about the subjects she teaches. My only complaint about this class is how your grade is based on only the 4 tests you have throughout the semester, with no other assignments to back you up if you bomb one of them like I did. Great class overall though!
Dr. Coston is a great professor! All her lectures were really interesting and she is passionate about what she teaches. My only complaint about this class is that it's graded based on the four tests you take throughout the semester with little to no extra credit and other assignments to back you up if you bomb one, hence why my grade dropped.
She is a sweet woman and is passionate about the class. You're graded on 4 tests alone. She provides 2 extra credit assignments but is a tough grader on them. No late work is accepted, and no partial credit is received either. Overall, the class is fairly easy, you just have to show up to class and take notes. Lots of memorization!!
This class is extremely challenging for what it's worth. This was supposed to be a free A elective, but instead, due to the 4 tests being the only grades, it wasn't. This professor seems to enjoy the failure of her students, and it's truly disheartening.
Entire class based off of four tests. Only extra credit assignment seems to intentionally have a weird due date. Professor claims that class cannot be passed unless you attend every lecture.
Only has four grades. TESTS, I hate it but I like the professor. Shes respectful and knows what shes talking about. if you are a good test taker, you should take her!
The teacher is nice and respectful, but I didn't like the class much, it was SK. There was 4 test and each has 2 points extra credit paragraph you can do. The presentation ar really disorganized and so hard to study.
Avoid this class if you want an easy elective. The prof is passionate and knows her stuff, but tests are based on what she says in lectures and not what's on the slides, so attendance is a must. Grades come from 4 tests and 2 all-or-nothing extra credit assignments. Guest speakers and the documentaries were a highlight.
Only graded on 3-4 tests (I don't remember), so study! Tests are based on what she says in class and the notes. There is two extra credit assignments for 3 points each, but one is like 2 paragraphs and the other is like 6 pages. Also 2 extra credit questions were test. She really knows what she was talking about and it was an interesting class.
