The woman has problems...
Eaaasssyyy class. Terrible teacher. Must teach yourself the material, but tests are very easy.
yep, the worst professor i ever had. she's unable to explain the material
No Comments
she's thee worst professor i've ever had. if you dont have to take her, then don't.
More helpful one on one.
very unclear and very unhelpful...does not know how to teach or explain things if her life depended on it. don't take her!!
Dont take her...she calls on students to answer questions durring lecture and assigns seats. Not clear or helpful about anything
I would have to say that this teacher is one of the worst ones at VCU. She doesn't know how to teach. Her quizzes are so ridiculous because they are practically a test. Whatever you do don't take this professor. HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!
This class was supposed to help me get an A in Chem 101. I got an A in Chem 101, but I got a B in this one. How the **** is that possible? Do NOT take hums291.
I've taken orgo and she made Chem 102 harder than both parts of orgo put together.
WT*, this teacher cannot teach, where did she go to school<, uh hums is su;posed to help you with chem 101 , all this did was confuse me more, when you ask for help all she will do is ask you more ?'s about your original ?, so by the time she is ready to answer your ? you have already forgotten it
she knew what she was talking about, but no one else did
avoid this class with her at all cost, i"m a 3.4 student trying to learn chem for the first time with a very confusing professor recieved my first bad grade at vcu,a F, retook class with Topich got a A you tell me is Crawley a good professor?
absolutely horrible. you cannot teach chemistry using recipes. if i wanted to bake, i'd be in home ec! cannot teach at all. i was more confused in this class (that is supposed to help) than i was in chemistry. just terrible!
She isn't very clear sometimes. Quizes are alrite if you study for them. Study a lot for tests too cuz they can get ya.
She is an alright teacher concidering the material she has to teach. The Tests are easy as hell. The weekly quizes mirror the tests she gives. Easy A.
She was a great teacher, the exams and quizes were soo straight forward, all you need to do is attend class and study a bit out of class, shes always there to help, and shes really a nice lady, and she keeps track of her students, makes sure they are doing well in school
I dont know what these other people are talking about Crawley was THE best chem teacher Ive had here at VCU. Her tests are straighforward unlike Topich's and Terner. All you have to do is study outside, obviously these other people didnt do that. And she doesnt give you bs homework questions on loncapa like topich does. I hope i get her again later.
whoever made her teach in vcu prolly just took pity on her so she could get in.. coz she sucks! SERIOUSLY..
Okay so tell me why the teacher doesnt know how to teach? By the half way mark of the semester 50% of the kids dropped the class bc they would of failed and by the end of the semester only 1/4 of the class passeD!!!! And this is chem 100. My high school chem teacher taught better than this woman. Her tests and quizzes were outta control when I was taking her class back in 03. Yeah..she sux and everyone beware.
scatterbrained and can never find the words to say what she means. also teaches things that are not needed for the class. TERIBBLE

terrible!!!
absolute garbage
One of the worst teachers I have had in my life. Very unorganized, scatterbrained.
By far the worst chem teacher i've ever had by far. She totally turned me off to chem...
As a second degree seeking student and graduate of a competitive university (cum laude), I feel confident that my study habits have afforded me success in academics. HOWEVER, this was not the case with Crawley's Chem 100. Lecture style aside (which is terrible), her tests are not straight forward and include material far too advanced for intro chem
You would think that a Chem 100 course wouldn't be impossibly hard. You'd be wrong.
It's a sad situation when the students are telling the prof. where they made a mistake in their math. ALL SEMESTER LONG!
chemistry was my major until i took this course...everything was unorganized and there is really no point in getting help from her because she never has time for anyone....
yeah she doesn't explain very well but the material isn't all that hard...study a lot and you'll be fine
she is a good teacher, in that she gets what she is talking about, and gives you notes that you can go back and make sense of, so she is good in that sense. probably not the best, but you leave the class with actual knowledge. SHE isn't the worst, i would take her again
DISORGANIZED and NEVER on TIME
She's alright.
Dr. Crawley isn't the teacher you want to take. She is very unorganized. If you want a good Chem teacher, take POLO...she is the best. I took her for Chem 100 but it defitnetly felt like Chem 1,938,293...honestly. Her lectures are super boring too...make sure your pillow has a pillow.
She is extremely disorganized. Her exams and quizzes are far more difficult than the material presented in class. She is unresponsive to students' concerns.
omg! i would have to agree that she is unorganized but she knows her stuff..the thing is is that she couldnt exactly explain it as well as she knew it..and she knows TOO much, she's very knowledgeable..thats a great accomplishment for her but we were left confused and didnt learn quite as much...Confused in the end..VERY confused
Dr. Crawley was one of the worst teachers that I took this semester. Her lessons are super boring plus she barely explains what she is talking about. The recitation teachers are the worst also, they barely have time for you. I thought that was what they were for. She basically knows everything in the world about Chemistry, but explaining it to us,
One of the WORST teachers I've ever had. I slept in this class DAILY I lie to you not. It IS very sad when the students are teaching the professor. It's okay to make mistakes, but it's not okay to teach people the WRONG way of doing things. . . I LOVE chemistry, but seriously reconsidered my major. DO NOT TAKE HER!!! HORRIBLE!!!
According to the student sample on RMP, Charlene Crawley is the worst instructor at VCU--statistically speaking. Quite an honor!
has a seating chart, even though we are not in elementary school. does not explain anything, and neither do her TAs. contradicts herself quite often. very nice, but a not a great prof.
Dr. Crawley was one of my favorite professors. She could be a little unorganized at times, however when I met with her one on one she was fantastic. She definitely gave me a better understanding of Chemistry. Sit up front and take notes. I highly recommend going to her with any problems!
Seriously, if you don't like Chemistry or you're bad at it, DON'T take this professor YOU WILL FAIL. She is totally disorganized, boring, doesn't know what shes doing and will make you hate chemistry forever. AVOID DR. CRAWLEY AT ALL COSTS! Quizzes are impossible, exams are easier but you never know what to study for!
consistently got worse. she fell behind in her lecture so she sped through the difficult material-- makes sense right? no. exams are similar to quizzes but the last exam she pulled out of no where. class is worthless and i wanted to rip up her seating chart (because we're 5 years old). get your 'a' and get out!!
I had this class my freshman year...so long ago it was...and she was a good teacher. She increased my understanding of chemistry, and now I've changed my major TO CHEMISTRY (b/c of the Topich couple not Dr. Crawley)
She was one of the reason I switched my major. I got a C in the class and she does not make Chemistry easy. If you have the chance to take chem with D. Polo choose her. If you have to take her class read before going to class and attend SI regularly!!
She's probably one of the worst professors I have to date because she is very hard to understand and disorganized. Don't take her even if you did well in high school chem, take someone else.
Horrible teacher. The class is a complete joke. Her and her TA's are worthless. I pray to anyone who will be taking chemistry to read everyones comments... don't fall victim the the system... or Charlene!
terrible.
Seriously. If she taught Chemistry for 10 years...then it was a waste of 10 years of her life.
she is very smart when it comes to what she knows about chemistry, but she can't teach very well.. i changed my major because of her.. I emailed her several times but she only responded to half of those emails. her slides look like a 2 year old scribbled on it.. avoid her!
SHE IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! SHE DOES NOT RESPOND TO YOUR EMAILS EVER! SHE SKIPS LECTURES EVEN THOUGH ITS THE LAST LECTURE BEFORE AN EXAM! I USED TO LIKE CHEM BUT NOW I HATE IT WITH A PASSION BECAUSE I AM NOT DOING WELL IN A 100 CLASS. JUST DONT GET HER AS A PROFESSOR BECAUSE IF YOU DO SHE DOESNT CARE ABOUT HOW YOU ARE DOING.
she is tough
I depended on the book to help me & HUMS 100. People complain about her, but HONESTLY if you don't do the work and read you can expect to get bad grades. Lectures ARE boring, tests are easy, multiple choice are tricky, her TAs are clueless, & she gets frustrated easily. Asking her for help is useless b/c she's kinna always on the go. =(
She's a hard teacher she doesnt really explain things very clearly and she doesnt deal well with confrontation. But over the work is easy, the book explains the stuff very well. But the teaching is a little bad. But its funny to go to class just to see what crazy mood shes gunna be in, and what shes gunna do.
i took AP chemistry in high school, passed with an A, but somehow got placed in chem100. it sucks. what sucks more is that i got a D in this INTRO level class when i got an A in the AP level class. ridiculous. this class was basically impossible. no matter how much i studied i couldn't pass the exams. i switched my major bc of this. GET POLO INSTEAD
she is HORRIBLE!!!!! she never answered any of my questions!!!!!!! i didnt understand what she was teaching because she always contridicting herself. she would teach somthng one day and the next day she would do a short review but it wouldnt be wat she taught the day before.
Chemistry has always been one of my best subjects until I had her. SHE SHOULD BE FIRED! VERY DISORGANIZED. SHE MAKES HER CLICKERS AS SHE GOES ALONG.DOESN'T EXPlAIN THINGS! QUIZZES ARE AS LONG AS TEST! HER ATTITUDE STINKS! HER NOTES ARE HARD TO FOLLOW! EVEN HER T.A. SUCKED. ONLY ABOUT 3 PEOPLE SHOW UP FOR S.I.
worst professor on the face of the earth! she should definitely be FIRED! class average is about a 60! supposedly she has been teaching chemistry for "10 years". i feel sorry for all those people she has taught in those 10 years. imagine something u hate with the greatest passion.. multiply that hate by a million and thats how much u will hate her.
hate is such a strong word... but its an acception when talking about crawley. for anyone reading these comments, listen and be warned! do NOT take her! i wish i would have dropped when i had the chance. tests are difficult, there are quizzes every week in recitation that are just as long as the tests, and her powerpoint lectures are very unclear
DO NOT GET HER! i had the choice between her and Turner, but i hear Turner is worse. Can't even solve her own problems. Notes are horrible. Quizzes and Tests are ridiculous. Don't take her 3 hr night class cause somehow we got behind even though the class did nothing to delay her. How she has a doctorate is beyond me.
you only hate this teacher if your ignorant. Im not a goody goody good grades person either but i do have respect. She would ask for people to stop talking and just like highschool people would laugh. she helped me in her office. VERY nice if you get to know her. EASY as crap but sometimes she makes no sense. Her test are like 9th grade stuff
She is not mean unless you provoke her. Her teaching style is wrong for the subject. Her ppt slides don't coincide with what she has posted on Blackboard. She seems to know she's hard so she curves generously. If you love Chemistry, you'll be okay. If you hate it, avoid this professor because you have to do alot on your own.
Dr. Crawley is a very educated bright woman who knows what she is talking about. Sohe makes sometimes she makes errors but thats all about being human. Her test are average. I feel that the only way you will fail is if you have no knowledge of chemistry. She gives very thourough notes, you just have to be there to get them.
Terrible class.
Her quizzes are nothing like the notes. Toward end of semester I discovered her quizzes come directly from the practice at the end of each chapter. Once i learned that and started to read the book i understood chemistry again
This lady is very smart in her subject, but if your brand new to chemistry dont take her because she is VERY DISORGANIZED!!!!repeat VERY DISORGANIZED!!! She also takes attendance daily like we are in kindergarden or something and ahe makes a lot of mistakes. I was failing dropped out and then took a test and placed out of that class. Dont Take her
i hate chemistry after her class. i don't think that i reached my full potential so i'm actually retaking it next semester. her and her ta's don't know what they're talking about and are completely worthless
Chemistry is not that hard, however, crawley makes it hard. She is all over the place in the notes, and you eventually look up at the notes and just wonder "why?" She never responds to e-mails. you have to go see her in person if you need help, or just to ask her a simple question. She is very bright indeed, however, the class is just insane.
i went to this class all excited to have this review chemistry class ya know chem 100 yaaay, but only after one class of listening to what she wanted the class to do and then i just decided...this stuff is too much is she even gonna teach this semester? and i just went to 101. OMGoodness!! (i think i made the right decision).
Crawley is the worst professor I've ever had in my life. She's completely worthless, and has no clue as to what she's talking about...ever. Her quizzes are impossible, the tests are stupid, and the TA's are WORTHLESS. The entire class is useless. You have to teach yourself EVERYTHING if you expect to pass. If you are placed in her class...DROP OUT!
First off, I was really mad this retarded school wouldn't let me take 101. Second, I loved chemistry before this class. Makes this subject harder than it really needs to be. Very unorganized even though she has about 7 nazi TAs who monitor the SEATING CHART in class of 160. Never used the book. Tests and quizzes have nothing to do with lecures.
Horrible teacher. never knows what she is talking about.students correct her all the time
Really bad. This is not a nice or helpful woman. She does not know her material well enough to teach it, nor does she express herself clearly. Did not explain assignments clearly, often leading to lower grades.
I don't know why this woman wants to do a job she so clearly sucks at. She can't even make it to class on time, and rarely seems to understand the material she "teaches." I feel ashamed for attending a university that employs such a numskull-and gives her tenure! Also- what is up with the seating chart?!
DUMBEST PROFESSOR IVE EVER HAD
unorganized, never answers questions, quizzes are impossible, tests are even worse. 3 hr night lectures do no good at all, i try and teach myself (spent a week straight studying) and scraped by on the test with a D. if given the option, avoid her like the Bubonic plague. you ask her a question and "hold on we'll got to that" and we never do...FML
Whoever says she is not a bad professor (like this dumbass below) must be completely insane. She has to be constantly corrected during her lectures and her exams include hardly anything that is presented during lectures. I study for her exams all night and I find hardly anything on her exams that are covered during the lecture. WORSE TEACHER EVER
I don't know what everyone's talking about. She wasn't that bad. The majority of people never came to class or just left at the break. And you wonder why you got D's. Just pay attention in class and actually spend some time a couple nights a week going thru the text. I got A's on all the tests.
It is possible to get an A in this class but wow - Dr Crawley should't be teaching such an important/foundational course. She just can't seem to explain even the most simple of concepts. Also, she was so disorganized this semester that we ended up covering half the course material in an extra lecture that about 1/4 of the class was able to attend.
Choose any teacher other than her! One of THE WORST at VCU. She has a terrible temper and makes mistakes all the time in lecture. Her weekly quizzes are very hard, though her tests are a little easier. Final Exam is really hard and on some material she never covered. The only way to do well is teach yourself with the textbook and go to SI!
Poor general communication skills, overall lack of organization, PPT presentations have no cohesion from one slide to next, consistently can't successfully work her own incomprehensible examples, constantly behind schedule, frequent errors in concepts or calculations, ludicrous pace to make up for lost time. I got an A, and stand behind each of my remarks.
She's a nice woman but she is highly disorganized. She is very hard to follow in lecture. She can not solve her own lon-capa problems and her quizzes are really long. She did not teach half the stuff on the final because she fell so far behind. I got an A because of her insane curving at the end of the semester. DO NOT TAKE CRAWLEY!!!!!
This professor is crazy. Her quizzes are ridiculous she doesn't teach half of the stuff that she puts on the quizzes at all period. I wish I could drop and I am failing but I can't.
My gosh she sucked. She was very disorganized and couldn't even follow her own power points. Did not learn a single thing in her class, the only reason I passed was because of insane curving towards the end of the semester. I went everyday and everyday was the same old thing, just sat around and learned nothing and took useless notes
just do yourself a favor and don't take her. her quizzes come from no where and she has no idea what she's doing.
She tried to explain to the entire class that water will go from steam into liquid water if you keep heating it at constant pressure. When several people tried to point out her mistake, she said, "Y'all don't have to understand the graph." And moved on. How did she get this job? Come on VCU; I'm paying for a college education, not homeschooling.
WOW- worst teacher everrrr- do not take her. Reading the book doesn't help either, her quizzes come out of thin air and are immpossible to study for. The averages on quiz grades are in the 50's..that speaks for itself!
She is very bad teacher, I read all the reviews about her before and I wanted to take the challenge but she is bad teacher. Everytime we take a quiz she goes over what is on the quiz AFTER we just took IT. She always messes up during class. Its suppose to be a 100 class but she teaches as if you took chemistry 2 times before.HORRIBLE TEACHER. AVOID!
She is absolutely the worst Ive had. Last time i checked i was paying for a good education 2 better my future & she is a buffer. I used to really like chemistry before i had her & it was easy, & now I hate it! Save yourself & money & do not get her, you will be lost in class and her quizzes are pointless. Averages speak for themselves, just study!
Nice lady, knows chemistry like the back of hand, BUT teaching is NOT, i repeat NOT HER CALLING...do yourself a favor and take it with someone else, i had polo for 100 & 101 and i passed with flying colors, get to this lady, i was lost in the clouds with chem! I like chem, but after having her, i practically hate it..her class is headache central!
TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS!!!!! I am currently enrolled in it and cannot stand it! I learn more from SI than i do from her. I learn NOTHING from her! Sucks at teaching, have to basically teach yourself. Hate to talk bad like this, but she is HORRIBLE!!!
Basically you have to teach yourself in her class. Be aware that you will be tested on information NOT covered in her lectures so READ THE BOOK and get HELP!! No help from her though, she's too busy. BUT, she is a very nice person, but as far as teaching, she is extremely disorganized.
Ugh! She is very annoying. As far as teaching goes; she sucks and is disorganized! Attendance is mandatory and she has TA's walking around to see if you are not on the phone or surfing the internet; being in that class is like middle school. In order to be successful in this class is to get the textbook and do the practice problems on your own.
READ the book and you'll be FINE. Not necessary to do her problems on blackboard, but work on the book examples while reading. 6 quizes and group activities in rec. 3 tests total 1 final. She makes learning difficult, but just read the book which is easy to follow instead of her lecture. difficult to follow in class if not prepared before.
DOn't get me wrong Dr. crawley is the sweetest person I have ever met in my life, but her teaching skills are just not where they'r supposed to be. This class was a waste of my time. I will have to retake it if I want to grasp any of the material. DO yourself a favor and stay away!
Crawley gave us 3 tests in the past 17 days. I don't understand why she spent 39 days lecturing us on an open-book test, yet expected us to memorize 2 chapters in a week for the final exam. Crawleys schedule: Begin semester -> 16 lectures -> Test1 -> 1l lectures -> Test2 -> 3 lectures -> Test3 -> 2 lectures -> Final exam. Now that's organization!!!
She is not worth a PhD. She sent all the grades and private information to all the students. She throws temper-tantrums in class. Treats us like 1st graders. Has no clue about chemistry. She says incorrect things all the time. STAY FAR AWAY IF YOU EVER WANT TO LEARN CHEMISTRY!!!!
HORRIBLE TEACHER. EASIEST A EVER. Basically she doesn't know what she's talking about, so hope u have a good TA to teach you. However, her grading scale is so easy if you dont get an A or a B you are retarded. Tests are direct from Quiz. Also quizzes from the year before are VERY SIMILAR to the quizzes she will give you so ask a friend.I got 106% ez
To continue my comment below, she has assigned seating, but seriously tests/quizzes are easy if u have a friends old ones. Her final is so easy you can get up to 42 bonus points.. u can get 142/140 on final and her final also replaces 1 test grade so it counts 2 times.EASY if u are SMART.If ur a dumb ass who THINKS you can go pre med dont take.
Dr. Crawley is one of the worst teachers I have ever had in my life. Her lectures are very difficult to follow. She jumps back and forth in between slides. She makes numerous errors. Students constantly have to correct her. I was better off not going to class rather than sitting in her lecture and getting confused.
horrible. I had to teach myself through the textbook and recitation is only for testing. she fell three weeks behind and had to rush at the end
Just to continue, I have watched people ask questions during class that has nothing to do with the material she teaches; and I realize they are only asking these questions to limit the amount of CPS questions she gives. Lastly, she is very helpful; and everytime I have gone to her office w/questions, she was there and willing to help. Grow up...
She isn't a good teacher. She tends to confuse herself during lecture and doesn't know what she is talking about at times. Her tests are easy. She gives A LOT of bonus and a huge grade curve. She is good at letting u know EXACTLY what will be on each test and quiz she gives out. She won't try to trick you, just be able to read the textbook.
I think she is a great teacher. She does need to pace herself better; however, the material is straight forward. If people spend less time complaining and more time studying, they would not have an issue with this class. She's very straight forward and tells you everything that will be on the exam and quizzes. I have gotten A's on my quizzes.
A GREAT TEACHER? WE ARE EIGHT WEEKS BEHIND! She is a NICE lady, but teaching is not her thing! She confuses herself all the time. I used to think that people who complained on here just didn't try... but trust me, DON'T let your head get big like mine and think you'll be fine in her class. DON'T take her. Now I have to cram for orgo this summer!
Yes, this teacher is VERY confusing, but she is a nice lady, teaching just isn't her thing. She tells you what will be on her quizzes and her tests are straight from those. Not many professors here at VCU make it that easy for a student to pass...
shes horrible she doesnt return emails or anything!!! highly unrecommended this semester she was behind 5 chapters and expected us to learn it in a week!
She is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. Her slides are not cohesive and she is extremely confusing. If you enjoy chemistry at all, then do not take her course.
Besides the fact that she has been behind, I realize that she was not as behind b/c one of my friends with another teacher was only a chapter ahead of us. With that said, her class is EASY! Seriously, she curves like crazy. If you can't pass her class with a curve, extra credit, and identical test questions from her quizzes...nothing will work.
She is very easy, nice, and extremely helpful outside of class. That being said, she was terribly behind in lecture and massively unorganized. Getting an A is cake, just prepare to be stressed out by her en route. All you need to do is study the quizzes and problem sets for tests.
Regardless of the fact that she may have been behind, she only test on material that she covers. Dr. Crawley does not trick her students. If anything, she tells you what will be on the exam. Her quizzes can be somewhat difficult if you do not prepare; however, if you study you will find them to be extremely useful. She recycle her quiz questions.
Dr. Crawley was a pretty great teacher, I will say that it was difficult sometimes to understand her teachings BUT she was always MORE than happy to help me with anything that I didn't understand; her patience was incredible. This class wasn't easy for me, but I managed to pull a B. I did enjoy this class very much, but it does require STUDYING!
Well, I respect her as a woman but as far as a professor....AHHH!! She didn't give us enough info for our tests such as deadlines, she didn't use the clickers like she said she would, I could go on... I guess you will see for your self.
FYI, this teacher is no different from Polo when it comes to teaching chem 102. I had a friend who had Polo, and he did not like that class at all. Do the book problems and read for your own understanding. At some point students need to put forth some work. Dr. Crawley may be behind in every lecture class she teachers, but her grading is fair.
As a post-bach student with years of good study habits under my belt, this class pushed the limits of what is acceptable to expect your students to "teach" themselves by way of studying, in order to pass the class. I found this prof. disorganized and ill-prepared for her own lectures.
My experience with Dr. Crawley has been good; and I have found that most people either don't show up to class, or talk the entire time. I got a 94 % in this class without a curve, so I was not happy when she curved; especially since it game good grades to people that didn't deserve it. I say this to say her grading is fair, you all will be fine.

i loved chem before this class
She is TERRIBLE teacher!!Period!! If u have the option dont take this class!
Terrible teacher. Lectures focus on things that she explicitly says are not going to be covered and then she rushes the things that she says there will be a large focus on. Attendance is mandatory but you will learn more from the book (which I highly recommend you get). Do not take unless you have no other choice.
I got an A in her class, but her teaching was deplorable. From what I remember, going to her lectures were an absolute waste of time because nothing she said made sense, i learned out of the book. She was very confusing and disorganized. Also, she's part of the reason I transferred out of vcu. GO TCNJ!
Don't really understand the hate for Crawley. Class is boring because students ask the same questions 100 different ways. She gets behind because she has to explain the same formula over and over. Exams are a joke for easy, its the exact quiz questions. If your bad at math don't blame the teacher. Easy A.
Not a good professor. If you are trying to teach yourself, you will fail. I was failing the entire semester and somehow got a B. I'm not smart. Buy and study the ACS book for sure. Exams are crucial, although you may feel helpless at times. Study the ACS!!!
Shes hard but the test arent that hard. if you read the textbook and do the loncapa problems, you should be fine. REVIEW her all the group work, quizzes and previous exams for the final and you'll get an A for sure. Also study the ACS its crucial to have the book.
She is a great professor. I don't why students say she is hard, unwilling to help, etc. she is a great professor who knows her stuff, she drops one low test grade, and substitutes it with the final grade, she also drops the lowest quiz. gives some extra credit. the course itself is hard.her test questions come from quizzes, and lon capa.
Dr. Crawley is amazing: her lectures are thoughtfully structured and thorough. She delivers this complex and very difficult subject with unparalleled clarity. The class is extremely hard, yes, and you must study a lot, but Dr. Crawley is undoubtedly one of the best teachers at VCU--attending her lectures is truly a pleasure.
She's not as bad as people say. Her class is really easy if you listen and take notes (she can be boring though). She tries her best to be clear and explain everything but sometimes she gets a little confused herself and ends up confusing the whole class. But she does care about her students and she is fairly helpful.
Her lectures are useless and boring for anyone who's decent at chem, and sometimes even incorrect. She stops using CPS after 2 weeks. Quizzes and group work are very simple. Exams require some prep, but even if you fail them you can still pull an A in this class. Take anyone else- this class is a waste of tuition.
If you can't take Polo or Topich, then this is is better then your other options. She is frustrating in her lectures but the work it self is not hard. GET THE BOOK, it will be your saving grace. And the easiest way to pass is to go to at least one SI session a week. The TA's will get you through.
Crawley is a nice person, but she isn't a teacher. Her tests are straight from the quizes so that helps. My best advice is to get the book and go to SI sessions. About half way through the semester she will start offering extra credit TAKE IT. You can end up with 100s on all quizes if do enough of it. She's not the best, but she' relatively easy.
The worst professor I have ever had by far. She has no idea what she is talking about most of the time. Take chemistry with anyone but Crawley. She makes it 100X more confusing than it actually is. I would never, ever take another class with her. EVER
Going to class is basically useless - clicker questions are rarely given but worth 5% of your grade. Crawley is sweet and friendly but not a good professor - she is very confusing and her handwritten examples are impossible to follow. If you read your textbook, do all of the LON-CAPA homework, and study quizzes, you'll do fine. I did and got an A.
She gives supplementary methods to learn chem like online activities, loncapa homework, problem questions and so on because she doesn't really teach the material in class.
She tried to help our failing grades by giving us an incredeble amount of extra credit that were these hard worksheets that you had to find time when one of the resertation TAs were free and you were free to do them with them in the room. Stil failed.
Horrible professor; her lectures are confusing and poorly explained. Uses LONCAPA for HW, but half the time your answers won't work because her work is flawed. Tests are unbalanced with 40% of the points resting on 3-4 problems out of 30. Grades poorly but curves to counter it; I avg'd a C but ended up with an A. Simply do NOT take her for chem.
I understood chemistry so well before I came into her class for my first year. I don't recommend her as a professor, choose Polo. It was confusing and frustrating and her notes that she gives you are all over the place and that drove me crazy. Good luck to anyone who has her. & go to the SI sessions if you do end up with her!
I loved AP chemistry in high school, but this class made me hate the subject. Dr. Crawley is a very nice woman, but a very unorganized, slow-moving professor. It was difficult to summon the willpower to go to her lecture. I frequently left class feeling as if I learned nothing meaningful. We didn't even finish all the material for the final exam.
She is so easy and gives out alot of extra credit opportunities and curves the final exam wayy easier than the rest of the chem 102 teachers take her! but you have to teach yourself everything
Would expalain something fully and then go back and say ohh wait thats backwards. worst professor ever.
WORST TEACHER ALIVE!!!!!! honestly i dont know why she's teaching
I was tricked into taking chem 100. Just take 101, seriously. Crawley is a nice enough lady, but totally scatterbrained and not a good teacher. If you end up with her, just read the chem book and come to the tests. She doesn't even grade the clicker questions, all the tests are curved, and she drops almost all of the homework grades.
She is a really nice person but she is too scattered and I don't understand anything she teaches. Ive made my way through the course by studying with others and reading the textbook. It helps that she drops 3 lowest quiz grades and only counts 5 of mastering chem
If you go to SI sessions and take extremely good notes, you will do fine. As of now I have an A in the class and haven't gotten under an 88 on a test. You just have to be organized and disciplined. Dr. Crawley is a lady with great intentions, but she isn't very clear in her lectures. Also, she hardly responds to your e-mails, so she's not reliable.
Crawley is nice, but her course is confusing. I did a lot of self-teaching from the textbook, but still went to class to know what chapter we were currently on and hear the material gone over once. Her PowerPoints are useful study tools, they basically summarize the chapter. She must have a pretty generous curve.
She's an okay teacher but she is forgetful when it comes to the class material. There were instances where the class was teacher her because she couldn't remember how to do a certain thing.
very jumbled teacher. She was nice, but her methods of teaching had some of us left in confusion
she is the sweetest woman; however she is very often confused and having technical difficulties. she doesn't explain things correctly because half the time she is unsure herself. I would NOT RECOMMEND her as a professor
WORST chemistry teacher I have ever had in my life. Not helpful, constantly confused. Terrible, do not take her.
she is a very good teacher and she knows her chemistry, but she often confuses herself which causes the class to be confused as well. the way she writes her notes during lecture are not helpful at all.
I don't know why people complain about her. She really isn't that bad of a professor; I think people just blame her for the difficulty of the course. Her tests are fairly easy and she puts all of the formulas on there.
She's a nice lady and honestly I'm not sure why people complain about her. Even though she's a bit jumbled she is a decent professor. Her tests are fairly easy and she puts all of the formulas on them.
I think that she is great! Although she does get jumbled sometimes, if you read the book, and do the practice problems in the book, you will be just fine! The test questions come straight from her worksheets, so if you can master them, (which isn't hard if you thoroughly read the book) then the test will be a breeze!
Her abilities as a professor are poor. She continually manages to confuse both herself and her students. The structure of the class is nonexistent. Do your best to tune her out, keep up with the class independently and you'll be alright. Also: lecture is useless, but clickers matter so make sure to come.
She is awesome!!! Take her! Easy, yet learn a lot!
Really sweet and means well. And if you ask for help she's good with helping you. Her quizzes are meant to be hard. If you have the time to put into this class go ahead and take it. But if you're looking for an easy 100 class. I suggest not.
She's good at helping one-on-one but lectures can get confusing. Not the best professor out there and textbooks and mastering Chem is essential to passing the class.
She is wonderful and I found her easy
Ridiculously unorganized. Countless errors and slip ups that leave people seriously confused.
I do not recommend taking one of her classes. Her lectures are VERY long and she rushes through the information which makes it even more confusing. I really wish I could've had another professor for Chem 102 because she did not teach it well. If you do have to take her make sure you go to the Learning Center and get a tutor.
She means well, but she does not use her time wisely. She gets really far behind in course materials. She makes a lot mistakes that will confuse a lot of students.
she told me water was an element, then proceeded to argue with me when I disagreed. Her tests aren't related to coursework either, and her mannerisms and way of speech either made me hella mad or I fell asleep
Awful communicator. Would consistently tell students 2 days in advance when she was going to give us a test. This class was designed to be a supplement to Quantitative Analysis. The information taught in Quant did not synch up with the timeline in Chem391. The packets that were given would often contain many mistakes. Answers would conflict.
She was very nice, but would often get confused over the subject material making the students confused. The class was also taken during the summer so it was even more information to learn in a smaller amount of time. Also didn't want to tell us her name. Sometimes she would show up late and seemed unorganized.
I love Dr. Crawley! She is available outside of lecture to give extra help. She genuinely wants everyone to succeed. Just do the work, and ask for help if you need it.
got a bit confused sometimes, but she is very nice
Dr. Crawley is a brilliant professor. If you have to take quantitative analysis (309) this problem solving course will be your best friend! Passing this class is based solely on attendance and participation. Weekly worksheets and presentations. (done in class time) TAKE THIS CLASS AND SHOW UP IF YOU WANT TO PASS QUANT.
If I were able to give a 0 I would this professor has no patience nor respect for her students. I will never wish my worst enemy to have to try to talk to this person she literally does not answer emails in a timely matter and is quite rude.
I was absent from school because of a death in the family. My other professors respected my absence Crawley didn't. I contacted her and after not hearing back for multiple weeks had to get the dean involved. I finally scheduled a meeting where she basically told me that students in my position don't pass. She wouldn't even give me the opportunity.
She talks WAY too much. We wasted so much time in class because she doesn't know how to work technology. She rambles a lot as well.
Professor Crawley's class is hit or miss - can be easy, but she struggles with tech and sometimes rambles. unstuck study was a lifesaver for study prep.
semester isn't even over yet, but i'm writing this review. difficult to communicate/get in contact with, unclear grading criteria, late necessary assignment feedback, and more. i'd say don't take her, but it's required for us science majors so take this as a warning i guess :/
