Dont take her...she calls on students to answer questions durring lecture and assigns seats. Not clear or helpful about anything

I would have to say that this teacher is one of the worst ones at VCU. She doesn't know how to teach. Her quizzes are so ridiculous because they are practically a test. Whatever you do don't take this professor. HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!

I've taken orgo and she made Chem 102 harder than both parts of orgo put together.

absolutely horrible. you cannot teach chemistry using recipes. if i wanted to bake, i'd be in home ec! cannot teach at all. i was more confused in this class (that is supposed to help) than i was in chemistry. just terrible!

Okay so tell me why the teacher doesnt know how to teach? By the half way mark of the semester 50% of the kids dropped the class bc they would of failed and by the end of the semester only 1/4 of the class passeD!!!! And this is chem 100. My high school chem teacher taught better than this woman. Her tests and quizzes were outta control when I was taking her class back in 03. Yeah..she sux and everyone beware.

One of the worst teachers I have had in my life. Very unorganized, scatterbrained.

You would think that a Chem 100 course wouldn't be impossibly hard. You'd be wrong.

It's a sad situation when the students are telling the prof. where they made a mistake in their math. ALL SEMESTER LONG!

chemistry was my major until i took this course...everything was unorganized and there is really no point in getting help from her because she never has time for anyone....

She is extremely disorganized. Her exams and quizzes are far more difficult than the material presented in class. She is unresponsive to students' concerns.

Dr. Crawley was one of the worst teachers that I took this semester. Her lessons are super boring plus she barely explains what she is talking about. The recitation teachers are the worst also, they barely have time for you. I thought that was what they were for. She basically knows everything in the world about Chemistry, but explaining it to us,

According to the student sample on RMP, Charlene Crawley is the worst instructor at VCU--statistically speaking. Quite an honor!

Seriously, if you don't like Chemistry or you're bad at it, DON'T take this professor YOU WILL FAIL. She is totally disorganized, boring, doesn't know what shes doing and will make you hate chemistry forever. AVOID DR. CRAWLEY AT ALL COSTS! Quizzes are impossible, exams are easier but you never know what to study for!

consistently got worse. she fell behind in her lecture so she sped through the difficult material-- makes sense right? no. exams are similar to quizzes but the last exam she pulled out of no where. class is worthless and i wanted to rip up her seating chart (because we're 5 years old). get your 'a' and get out!!

She's probably one of the worst professors I have to date because she is very hard to understand and disorganized. Don't take her even if you did well in high school chem, take someone else.

Chemistry has always been one of my best subjects until I had her. SHE SHOULD BE FIRED! VERY DISORGANIZED. SHE MAKES HER CLICKERS AS SHE GOES ALONG.DOESN'T EXPlAIN THINGS! worst professor on the face of the earth! she should definitely be FIRED! class average is about a 60! supposedly she has been teaching chemistry for "10 years". i feel sorry for all those people she has taught in those 10 years. imagine something u hate with the greatest passion.. multiply that hate by a million and thats how much u will hate her.

hate is such a strong word... but its an acception when talking about crawley. for anyone reading these comments, listen and be warned! do NOT take her! i wish i would have dropped when i had the chance. tests are difficult, there are quizzes every week in recitation that are just as long as the tests, and her powerpoint lectures are very unclear

DO NOT GET HER! i had the choice between her and Turner, but i hear Turner is worse. Can't even solve her own problems. Notes are horrible. Quizzes and Tests are ridiculous. Don't take her 3 hr night class cause somehow we got behind even though the class did nothing to delay her. How she has a doctorate is beyond me.

Her quizzes are nothing like the notes. Toward end of semester I discovered her quizzes come directly from the practice at the end of each chapter. Once i learned that and started to read the book i understood chemistry again

i hate chemistry after her class. i don't think that i reached my full potential so i'm actually retaking it next semester. her and her ta's don't know what they're talking about and are completely worthless

Crawley is the worst professor I've ever had in my life. She's completely worthless, and has no clue as to what she's talking about...ever. Her quizzes are impossible, the tests are stupid, and the TA's are WORTHLESS. The entire class is useless. You have to teach yourself EVERYTHING if you expect to pass. If you are placed in her class...DROP OUT!

First off, I was really mad this retarded school wouldn't let me take 101. Second, I loved chemistry before this class. Makes this subject harder than it really needs to be. Very unorganized even though she has about 7 nazi TAs who monitor the SEATING CHART in class of 160. Never used the book. Tests and quizzes have nothing to do with lecures.

Really bad. This is not a nice or helpful woman. She does not know her material well enough to teach it, nor does she express herself clearly. Did not explain assignments clearly, often leading to lower grades.

DUMBEST PROFESSOR IVE EVER HAD

unorganized, never answers questions, quizzes are impossible, tests are even worse. 3 hr night lectures do no good at all, i try and teach myself (spent a week straight studying) and scraped by on the test with a D. if given the option, avoid her like the Bubonic plague. you ask her a question and "hold on we'll got to that" and we never do...FML

Whoever says she is not a bad professor (like this dumbass below) must be completely insane. She has to be constantly corrected during her lectures and her exams include hardly anything that is presented during lectures. I study for her exams all night and I find hardly anything on her exams that are covered during the lecture. WORSE TEACHER EVER

It is possible to get an A in this class but wow - Dr Crawley should't be teaching such an important/foundational course. She just can't seem to explain even the most simple of concepts. Also, she was so disorganized this semester that we ended up covering half the course material in an extra lecture that about 1/4 of the class was able to attend.

Choose any teacher other than her! One of THE WORST at VCU. She has a terrible temper and makes mistakes all the time in lecture. Her weekly quizzes are very hard, though her tests are a little easier. Final Exam is really hard and on some material she never covered. The only way to do well is teach yourself with the textbook and go to SI!

This professor is crazy. Her quizzes are ridiculous she doesn't teach half of the stuff that she puts on the quizzes at all period. I wish I could drop and I am failing but I can't.

My gosh she sucked. She was very disorganized and couldn't even follow her own power points. She tried to explain to the entire class that water will go from steam into liquid water if you keep heating it at constant pressure. When several people tried to point out her mistake, she said, "Y'all don't have to understand the graph." And moved on. How did she get this job? Come on VCU; I'm paying for a college education, not homeschooling.

WOW- worst teacher everrrr- do not take her. Reading the book doesn't help either, her quizzes come out of thin air and are immpossible to study for. The averages on quiz grades are in the 50's..that speaks for itself!

She is very bad teacher, I read all the reviews about her before and I wanted to take the challenge but she is bad teacher. Everytime we take a quiz she goes over what is on the quiz AFTER we just took IT. She always messes up during class.Its suppose to be a 100 class but she teaches as if you took chemistry 2 times before.HORRIBLE TEACHER. AVOID!

Basically you have to teach yourself in her class. Be aware that you will be tested on information NOT covered in her lectures so READ THE BOOK and get HELP!! No help from her though, she's too busy. BUT, she is a very nice person, but as far as teaching, she is extremely disorganized.

Ugh! She is very annoying. As far as teaching goes; she sucks and is disorganized! Attendance is mandatory and she has TA's walking around to see if you are not on the phone or surfing the internet; being in that class is like middle school. In order to be successful in this class is to get the textbook and do the practice problems on your own.

DOn't get me wrong Dr. crawley is the sweetest person I have ever met in my life, but her teaching skills are just not where they'r supposed to be. This class was a waste of my time. I will have to retake it if I want to grasp any of the material. DO yourself a favor and stay away!

Crawley gave us 3 tests in the past 17 days. I don't understand why she spent 39 days lecturing us on an open-book test, yet expected us to memorize 2 chapters in a week for the final exam. Crawleys schedule: Begin semester -> 16 lectures -> Test1 -> 1l lectures -> Test2 -> 3 lectures -> Test3 -> 2 lectures -> Final exam. Now that's organization!!!

She is not worth a PhD. She sent all the grades and private information to all the students. She throws temper-tantrums in class. Treats us like 1st graders. Has no clue about chemistry. She says incorrect things all the time. STAY FAR AWAY IF YOU EVER WANT TO LEARN CHEMISTRY!!!!

Dr. Crawley is one of the worst teachers I have ever had in my life. Her lectures are very difficult to follow. She jumps back and forth in between slides. She makes numerous errors. Students constantly have to correct her. I was better off not going to class rather than sitting in her lecture and getting confused.

Terrible teacher. Lectures focus on things that she explicitly says are not going to be covered and then she rushes the things that she says there will be a large focus on. Attendance is mandatory but you will learn more from the book (which I highly recommend you get). Do not take unless you have no other choice.

The worst professor I have ever had by far. She has no idea what she is talking about most of the time. Take chemistry with anyone but Crawley. She makes it 100X more confusing than it actually is. I would never, ever take another class with her. EVER

I understood chemistry so well before I came into her class for my first year. I don't recommend her as a professor, choose Polo. It was confusing and frustrating and her notes that she gives you are all over the place and that drove me crazy. Good luck to anyone who has her. & go to the SI sessions if you do end up with her!

Would expalain something fully and then go back and say ohh wait thats backwards. worst professor ever.

If you go to SI sessions and take extremely good notes, you will do fine. As of now I have an A in the class and haven't gotten under an 88 on a test. You just have to be organized and disciplined. Dr. Crawley is a lady with great intentions, but she isn't very clear in her lectures. Also, she hardly responds to your e-mails, so she's not reliable.

she is the sweetest woman; however she is very often confused and having technical difficulties. she doesn't explain things correctly because half the time she is unsure herself. I would NOT RECOMMEND her as a professor

WORST chemistry teacher I have ever had in my life. Not helpful, constantly confused. Terrible, do not take her.

she is a very good teacher and she knows her chemistry, but she often confuses herself which causes the class to be confused as well. the way she writes her notes during lecture are not helpful at all.

Her abilities as a professor are poor. She continually manages to confuse both herself and her students. The structure of the class is nonexistent. Do your best to tune her out, keep up with the class independently and you'll be alright. Also: lecture is useless, but clickers matter so make sure to come.

Ridiculously unorganized. Countless errors and slip ups that leave people seriously confused.

she told me water was an element, then proceeded to argue with me when I disagreed. Her tests aren't related to coursework either, and her mannerisms and way of speech either made me hella mad or I fell asleep

Awful communicator. Would consistently tell students 2 days in advance when she was going to give us a test. This class was designed to be a supplement to Quantitative Analysis. The information taught in Quant did not synch up with the timeline in Chem391. The packets that were given would often contain many mistakes. Answers would conflict.

If I were able to give a 0 I would this professor has no patience nor respect for her students. I will never wish my worst enemy to have to try to talk to this person she literally does not answer emails in a timely matter and is quite rude.

I was absent from school because of a death in the family. My other professors respected my absence Crawley didn't. I contacted her and after not hearing back for multiple weeks had to get the dean involved. I finally scheduled a meeting where she basically told me that students in my position don't pass. She wouldn't even give me the opportunity.

She talks WAY too much. We wasted so much time in class because she doesn't know how to work technology. She rambles a lot as well.

semester isn't even over yet, but i'm writing this review. difficult to communicate/get in contact with, unclear grading criteria, late necessary assignment feedback, and more. i'd say don't take her, but it's required for us science majors so take this as a warning i guess :/
