I hate science but I'm actually really enjoying this class because he is a great teacher, he does everything for his students to be interested in what we are talking about, he is great!!
His enthusiasm for science really makes it impossible not to be excited about it yourself. He's dedicated to helping his students understand the material. Truman is lucky to have him as a professor.
I had an amazing experience within this class. Prof Abrams literally helped me to understand and interpret the world differently through his passion of chemistry and his love of teaching and helping students find their "ah, hah!" moment. I think his presence at Truman helps to mitigate some of my other experiences with professors.
Professor Abrams is passionate about chemistry, which makes it more interesting to learn. But his expectations for studying and knowledge acquisition are demanding. This is not an easy class, and it is not easy material. However, his dedication to his students' success in learning the material keeps you coming back.
it was an o.k class
Professor Abrams' enthusiasm for teaching chemistry is truly inspiring.
Prof. Abrams made class interesting because he related things to life and was clearly very passionate about the topics. His teaching methods and expectations were very clear, though we had to come to office hours in order to do well in the class.
he is a great teacher
Organic Chemistry First Semester Nomenclatures, Alkyl and other functional groups, Alkyl Halides, E1/SN1, E2, SN2, Mass Spectrometry, IR, NMR
He wasn't such a bad teacher, however his attitude reflects on the class which makes other students feel less eager to learn. However, to pass, you just need to do the work and that's all it is to it
He is a great teacher, very energetic and lively. How ever, if you don't like to study hard, try to choose another instructor. This class might be difficult for you. Quizes every week and exams every few months, and a final and an exit exam on the last day of semester. Get ready for some hard work and you will be excited about the result.
He is very passionate about chemistry, and he makes it fun. He explains things very well and he does fun experiments like making soda pop. I really enjoyed his class, but you definetly have to study hard, no slacking off.
he teaches very well. he is ok, i mean very helpful
if you're planing to take this class and be able to remember most of the stuff, this teacher is the best choice.quizzes are given every week and many practice problems are solved during class time.the teacher is very helpful and has an excellent teaching methods.
For a subject matter that is considered intimidating by many, Professor Abrams made the material interesting, applicable, and digestible.
he started out the semester on fire; practice quizzes/exams online. they were very helpful,as the semseter went on he no longer updated the webite which was a source of frustration.he has the desire to teach and is great at it but seemed to run out of steam or be overcommitted to other classes.unfortunately we suffered b/c of it.would still recomm.
Abrams clearly states what you should know to do well in the class, UNTIL it comes to the midterm and final. It was clear this subject was not his favorite, but he still taught with enthusiasm. I recommend taking his course, but beware - no amount of studying will prepare you for either exam. Believe me, I tried.
great teacher. he knows his chemistry. he relates the chemistry to real life situations and things from the news which makes the class interesting. he also makes the material easy to understand. the labs were a bit hectic at times but were fun and interesting. he is creative and makes chemistry fun. take this guy. he cooks on the first day!
This was a fun class.Take this class, the teacher is very good. He knows his stuff and he's very helpful too. He'll do anything for you to understand the class.Note this he likes "t-butyl" watch out for it when you take the class.
This is a tough subject, but Professor Abrams is very good at guiding you through it. Prepare to spend time in office hours, which he never makes you feel like you are taking up his time. He loves organic and it shows in the way he teaches the class. It is a hard class, but he is fair. I wouldn't have learned as much from another prof.
Abrams is great at spoonfeeding difficult subjects (He really does a great job of getting students to fully understand a given topic). However he doesn't adhere to the syllabus very well and goes off topic quite a bit, so lab time is cut down. He's also not the warmest fella, but if you're looking for a great teacher (vs a friend) look no further.
The only reason why I stayed at Truman for another semester was because of Prof. Abrams. The quality of this class and performance by the Prof. Abrams was fantastic, which led to me taking the 2nd part of Organic with him. I have recommended anyone and everyone to take hisd classes because you learn so much and its presented so well. Thanks Prof.
Mr. Abrams is fun and intersting. HE incorporated many things that kept my attention and helped me learn. If you show up, you will do well. Abrams rules!!
The Best Teacher of Truman College
I really appreciated how accessible Mr. Abrams was for any sort of questions or concerns about the class. He was very thorough and was willing to stop for questions. One thing he could work on is being more prepared for the labs. He also has great real-life, practical examples to aid in his teaching. I would highly recommend him for CHEM 212.
Prof. Abrams is a great teacher. His knowledge of the material is endless. However, I feel he deviated from his proposed class structure too much. At times it felt as if he was trying to do too many things at once. This might be the reason that quizes and tests were delayed in their return to the students. Overall, he is an excellent professor
One of Truman's best instructors! Full of energy, enthusiam and creative approaches to teaching. Loved his class!
i think he is a nice guy and helpful to Truman College and all the student who take his class.
I took 3 differnt classes with him, they all were awesome! I was never interested in science, but he sure knows how to make you love it! He uses Internet a lot, and other very fun tools; he is very open to questions and very accessible.
He's the kind of professor that helps you by challenging you to study harder in order to do well in class, and get good grades of course. He's also the type of teacher that teaches you never to quit but to try harder instead, because he knows that it will really pay off in the long run. Overall, a very good and challenging teacher!
Professor Abrams "drill sargent" style of teaching was not conducive to the quality of my overall education. The goal is to hurry and memorize information to get a good grade, without actually absorbing the materials while in class. If you like lab; do not take his class. Alloted time was 45 minutes max for labs. His emphasis is finishing material.
He has the knowledge and more importantly he has the Desire to help you learn.
Great teacher. Enthusiastic, energetic, and comical. There were a lot of lecture notes, and some of the classes were boring, however overall I had a great time.
Very good teacher, very helpful, knowledgable, good at explaining things. Assignments are mostly in class, and tests are easy if you study. He writes a lot on the board so note-taking is easy. Brings up interesting facts, keeps it light, humorous. Great!
Prof Abrams is very passionate about teaching and truly wants his students to do well. He is always more than willing to help. This class requires plenty of studying, but its a hard subject what do you expect. He makes this class interesting and fun bc he jokes and teaches so well- straight forward and fair. STRONGLY suggest to take him 4 org chem
I strongly recommend other students to study organic chemistry with Professor Abrams. He does a great job of de-mystifying complicated organic chemistry concepts by doing great examples. This is not an easy class, but the prof wants you to do well and will help you out throughout the course!
Awesome!
Pretty smart guy who knows his chemistry but is also a pretty lazy one. never grades things on time, saving his neck by turning things to students' favor, late for class for writing quizzes, sullen feedback, he avoids students' concern on grades, never finished his PhD, never bother reading the lab reports, get behind syllabus
He is very enthusiastic! This course is fast-paced and you will fall behind if you don't constantly study. He posts many practice quizzes and is easily accessible if you need help. However, the time given for labs was compromised due to the lecture time, leaving some students struggling to finish by the end of class.
hardly got any of my quizzes and exams back during the semester. He rushed at the end to catch up and dropped the last four or five chapters for running out of time. His website has some old practice questions, but they were written like several years ago. He never updated his website. he's a passionate guy but plans things at the spur of moments
He was great. Made a subject like O-Chem really fun!!! If you could imagine Sesame Street and O-Chem together then it would be him!
Professor C Abrams has a good flow of teaching ability in Organic Chemistry. I would like to give a comment if he could give enough time for laboratory experiments. Thanks
Great teacher - very passionate about chemistry and its real-world applications
Very interesting professor.I had a five-hour class with him, but was never bored. Our midtem grades were delayed a lot though. We only got them after a month..Besides that, very nice and prepared professor.
Great prof, best I've ever had
I really hated chem until i got abrams. He made it interesting, clear, and was very avalible and willing to clear up any questions u might have. He love's chem. and wants u to also!
A Great Chemistry professor that I've ever had.
This is a great professor, I would suggest him to anyone who wants to take this class. Professor explains material very well, and his teaching routine is great!!!!! Be constant while studying and everything will be great.
he is a very good instructor..
I think abrams was an awesome chem teacher. i hate chemistry but i loved attending his classes. he always made them intersesting. he is an exceptional teacher. i wish i would've had him for chem201 it would of made of a big difference.
Professor Abrams class was fun and helpful. I learned a lot that will help me in the future. His lectures are very clear and the practice quizzes and exams were definitely helpful for the course.
INCREDIBLE professor! Takes teaching onto a completely different level - incorporating cutting edge modern day technology, innovative paper models. Be prepared to be bombarded at all angles by real-life examples, world news headlines, interesting video links and other creative connections. Be prepared to invest much time or you will not survive!
Professor Abrams is great, he makes the class fun and interesting. I definitely would recommend his class to anyone who finds Chemistry difficult and boring.
I never thought i'd enjoy organic chemistry, Prof. Abrams works miracles.
Charlie made the subject really acessible and a lot of fun. He's a really enthusiastic, engaging and clever instructor. He definitely took the fear out of organic chemistry. But of course you have to work pretty hard!
I would take a class taught by him again.
Never understood Chemistry but this Prof. made me love the subject! Very intelligent, knows the material well! Makes it engaging & fun. Fair quizzes weekly, and fair exams as long as you study consistently, reviews prior to exam. Willing to help and answer questions. Amazing teacher, and enjoyable class over all! Recommended to all!
Wow! What a treat it was to venture into Organic and Biochemistry with Prof. Abrams. All I can say is, take his class and enjoy! Enjoy listening to his lectures in the new high tech computer room, building paper models of carbs and proteins and watching his creative demonstrations. Thanks Charlie! I learned so much and had fun, too!
HE IS VERY NICE PROFFESOR VERY HELPFUL HIS TEST ARE STRAIGHT FORWARD
Use of computer lab and computers was very useful in the class.
Professor Abrams is very knowledgeable about the subject matter. He has a genuine intereset in his students doing well. He incorporates many resources into his teachings to help the student understand the material better.
I highly recommend his classes to everyone =). Best class ever--seriously! He is energetic, thorough, helpful, nice (he cooks for his students in class--how great is that?), fair, fun, firm but not serious, humorous, and inspiring among other things. Is strict when it comes to lab work so pay extra attention there. Thank you, Professor Abrams!
I detested chemistry, until I took this course with prof. Abrams. I wasnt good at chem and he made everything so easy for me. He is funny yet serious, especially in lab. He was concerned w/ us doing mistakes since they could be mistakes in real life (nurses). I dont regret taking his course one bit. Im so glad I did. He is a great professor!!
This was a great class to take. Professor Abrams made class interesting and the material easy to learn. I would agree with the comments/ratings listed below.
He is amazing! I never would have believed that 3 hours of Organic Chem could fly by so quickly. I HIGHLY recommend everyone to take a class from Prof Abrams. He is very engaging, humorous, and explains things extremely well. I was freaked out about this class but he made it very enjoyable!
4 weeks left of class and six more classmates dropped!this was an "experimental studio" class taken consecutively with math 99.what a joke.abrams is a brilliant chemistry teacher but has little knowledge of the layout of the aleks program he's using to teach us. buy the book!
I would not take with class him.
great professor. sometimes gets frustrated with students but overall very effective. will take him again for future classes.
Mr.Abrams is a great teacher. He explains terms clearly and he is very helpful. I enjoyed his class very much. Although the attendance is not mandatory a student must attend the classes because of labs. and tests, and quizzes.
Prof. Abrams is the best chemistry professor. He explains lecture very well. Very helpful to his students.
If you desire a comprehensive knowledge of Chemistry I would strongly suggest that you take Charlie's class. I would not bother taking this class if you are seeking a simple solution to satisfy your requirement. I would recommend that you have an expansive knowledge of Algebra as it will aid you in learning the material. Good luck & study hard!
GREAT PROFESSOR!!HE'S SO EXCITED ABOUT TEACHING CHEM. VERY INTELLIGENT,EXPLAINS THOROUGHLY,VERY APPROACHABLE.QUIZZES,EXAMS,NO HOMEWORK.LABS AREN'T HARD, GIVES EXTRA CREDIT. CHEM USED TO BE A FOREIGN LANGUAGE TO ME & I HATED IT BEFORE. I WOULD TAKE W/HIM AGAIN.TAKE THE STUDIO CLASSROOM.YOU WON'T BE BORED. HE MAKES IT FUN.I GOT AN A!! YOU WON'T REGRE
Awesome teacher- makes chemistry fun!!! Very passionate...will learn alot despite what you think. Is definately challenging. If I had to take chemistry again, he'd be my first choice!!
OMG he is the best teacher.he taught his students inceradable way.i like him so he the best teacher i recommande for u guys..........
he is a great teacher. he encourages his students. but homeworks and quizzes are more difficult than what we did in the class. I recommend him.
Class was very enjoyable. Professor has great passion for the material being taught.
Charlie Abrams will help you understand organic and biochemistry... he really makes the info accessible. clear speaker of English, also a great sense of humor
Great teacher. I'll remember some of the o-chem he taught forever, because he applied it to real life.
Best teacher so far at Truman!
ABSOLUTELY LOVED HIM. THE BEST TEACHER I HAD IN TRUMAN!
Abrams is really great and actually made chemistry bareable for me. And I never thought that I would enjoy this class, but I did.
One of the most professional, organized and inspiring instructors I have ever had. I was very sad for this class to end. I guarantee you you will love Charlie and his teaching skills.
I AGREE WITH THE LAST COMMENT IT WOULD NOT SURPRISE ME IF ALL THE WONDERFUL COMMENTS ARE POSTED BY HIM. HE WILL NOT BE WILLING TO REPEAT THINGS DURING CLASS, INSTEAD HE WOULD TELL YOU TO LOOK IT UP IN THE BOOK WHEN THE BOOK IS NOT EVEN REQUIRED IN HIS CLASS ANYWAY.... GOOD LUCK
If you have ever struggled with Math or Chemistry? This teacher provides you with the foundation. I hate this stuff, but after taking his class, it was one of the best classes I've had. It's not an easy A, you have to practice and study, but he helps you understand it with ease. He is approachable and available during office hours for review.
Amazing Professor! It's not always the easiest class...which is great if you desire to learn! He's a great teacher. He keeps his students engaged through the whole 4 or so hours of class and is sincerely passionate about chem and about teaching. One of my best professors ever! Highly recommend!
One of the most amazing instructors EVER!!! I have never taken Chemistry & I was scared to death, but he made the class fun, clear & interesting. His notes are amazing. I rarely used the book. He has practice quizzes/exams you can print out, along with his notes, to study with. I really miss his class & hope to have him as a professor again.
Do not make the mistake of asking Abrams for help. He is harsh, condescending, and demeaning. His teaching style: "You should already know this... I will grade your stuff later... Look at blackboard to learn..." I think Abrams must have been abused as a student/child! Clearly he is stuck and hates his work. Perhaps he does pump his own rating?
he teaches with clarity. And if you are afraid of chemistry, he totally makes it a breeze.he is one of the best Prof. Truman has. Submitted by AKIN
Started off good, but after the first test, 180 degree change. No longer posted grades, and dint even give us a grade for MIDTERM! no idea what i got on that 1st test, and only kno wut i got on the 2nd b/c WE GRADED THEM IN CLASS. Wow. What a waste of time, energy, and money. I am so disappointed and shocked at this teacher's unprofessionalism.
Could be a really good teacher... if students were given feedback. Expect weekly labs, quizzes and tests. Difficult to track progress and competency of covered material. One class left and 90% of items are still not graded/returned. Definitely a GPA killer.
Charlie really cares for his students and is VERY interested in the subject matter. His class is very challenging and requires a lot of studying. He moves quickly and after the first few weeks rarely returns assignments. Often content not directly covered in class is tested. What's nice is everything's scanned online (previous classes too).
Charlie is an excellent teacher and so excited about chemistry, he gets the student excited about it.
Professor Abrams is a really good teacher. His knowledge in organic chem is really broad. His explanations are clear. He has a passion for chemistry and that made me like it even more. I took chem 207 and got an A by working hard and solving problems from the book! he could improve on returning exams faster... very nice guy.
Amazing Professor! Organic Chem is not an easy class...which is great if you desire to learn and study! He's a great teacher. He keeps his students engaged through the whole 4 hrs of class. I'v always been focused in his lectures. He is sincerely passionate about chem and about teaching. One of my best professors ever! Highly recommend!
I have taken Organic Chemistry with Professor Charles Abrams. And I can say, he is one of the best teachers that I had; and though Organic Chemistry is hard and needs a lot of time for studying, the way he lectures is really helpful and make the class enjoyable. To point out some of the good points about him, he is good in relating the lecture with
This class really held my interest. Professor Abrams is very passionate, intelligent, and accessible. His notes are clear and concise.
He is a good teacher. His exams are not the easiest, and sometimes are very tricky and the class is not an easy A. However, he makes his lectures very interesting. He is funny and helpful.
Professor Abrams is great at communicating abstract ideas in chemistry. He uses animated programs and physical models to demonstrate chemical principles, and he has a great deal of enthusiasm for the material. If you come to class prepared to learn and keep an open mind, he will help you get to the next level in your education!
If you are not afraid of hard work and truly want to learn, Charlie is the teacher for you. If you have ever struggled with Chemistry like I have, Charlie will spend hours with you until you understand the concept.
I had to wake up at 5:30am to go to this class & I managed not to fall asleep in a 3hr chem class that was 8am-11am! Charlie keeps the class exciting & interesting. A great teacher. Posts past quizes and exams w/ answer keys so you know exactly what types of questions &0 problems expect. If I lived closer, I would take another one of his classes!
prof. Abrams is such a very great teacher. if you decide to take a class with him you wont regret it. I wish i had taken all my science courses with him. His lecture are all very interesting and he is very helpful.
If you want to get an A in Ochem, here or anywhere, study study study study and model model model model common and uncommon functional groups and compounds and visualize moving electrons, formal charges, stereochemistry, the works!
Well, this class was awesome. I was in a studio room. He lectures very well and explains everything very well. If you ask him questions he will try his best to help you. JUST PLAIN AWESOME!!!
He is just awesome. he always explains things very easy and clear.he made me love chemistry class.
Great teacher! If you go show up, you'll learn. He explains things really well, and keeps the going.
THE best teacher I've ever had! he made me love chemistry! he explains things so well, he's a fun guy, he's always cracking jokes, he makes you actually want to come to class. AWESOME teacher I would love to take another class with him!!!
Very good professor in terms of being able to explain complex material - excellent. Not the most approachable person, very hot and cold. Highly recommended for learning the material but not for asking questions to him if you are at all unsure about the material.
Organic chemistry is a difficult topic to cover, but he makes the subject matter approachable. I have taken chemistry classes with several other professors at the city colleges and he is BY FAR the most approachable, knowledgeable and fun prof!
One if not the best professor in Truman. He made the whole class interested in Chemistry !!!! Hands down to his professionalism!!
Amazing teacher and person. Charlie will go to the ends of the earth to help you in this tough subject; so long as you are genuinely trying. If you're lazy or not dedicated to a degree in science, don't take this course because you'll be wasting an awesome experience for someone (anyone in their right mind) who will appreciate it.
Professor Abrams is always knowledgable of the material he teaches. I also had him as an instructor for chem 121, and enjoyed his teaching methods. Study hard and you will excel in his class.
This was my first chemistry course at college level, and before I started I was fearful, but towards the end I knew I could conquer my fears.
I have only good things to say about lecture with this professor. He is enthusiastic, engaging, and makes the material accessible and understandable. The graded assignments are always fair and the workload isn't overwhelming. He incorporates and follows the textbook well in his lectures, and keeps them very interesting and filled with humor.
With only 350 character limits, I'll say this: he genuinely cares. That encompasses everything - from his professional purview(which is extensive!) to every last person in his class. I suck at chemistry, yet I can't help but have taken away permanent knowledge from this exemplary individual. Take him if you want to learn, vice skating.
Condensed summer survey of Organic and Biochemistry class should be extremely difficult but Charlie is amazing; makes Chemistry relevant to my interests/career; fills lectures with humor and sticking points and never leaves any student confused.
Charlie is a great professor and is very interested in the success of his students. His personality makes the class fun and enjoyable to be a part of everyday. He has a way of explaining ideas and concepts that make it easy for all his students to understand and feel confident. He makes the class material relevant to the real world - awesome!
He's awesome. If you have the chance to take him do it. He knows his stuff and he's the best chemistry teacher I have had thus far.
he is very awsome. i took Biochem almost 2 years ago with him. right now im taking Organic 1 but my current teacher teaches so bad.however, i remember all what Abram taught me. that helps me understand and survived in class Organic I, the way Abram teaches is so excellent. thankful to him
Hard grader, takes off points for the smallest details. He's a passionate teacher though and will help you if you see him during office hours. But other than that, he goes way too fast in his lectures and expects you to be an expert the next class. I regret taking him.
You'll never know your grade unless you go to his office hours. Good teacher but tough grader and expects a lot.
Prof Abrams is an outstanding and inspiring teacher. I hope I have as much passion and interest in my field of work! He genuinely cares for the students, and strives to make class both relevant and interesting. Come to class prepared to work hard, learn a lot and have fun!
Abrams is knowledgeable in the material I'll give credit where it's do,however he is very impatient.Does not like to repeat himself,is condescending and a bit rude. He thinks that if you do not understand a concept that it's is you fault and does not feel it necessary to explain or approach it differently. Quizzes and tests were extremely hard
Prof. Abrams is amazing! He is a very passionate and dedicated teacher, very knowledgeable and he makes chemistry seem easy. If you have the chance to take any class with him, do it! No one will make you understand chemistry better than he does!
I took Chem 121 with Prof. Abrams over the summer and I had a great experience! He is inspiring, very passionate about the subject and wants you to succeed. Chemistry is not easy, but Prof. Abrams will make it easy for you to understand. I look forward to taking more chemistry classes with him!
He explains things very well.
Yes Awesome! He is a great, passionate teacher who loves to learn and to teach- you can't get any better than this man.
Wonderful instructor. Quiz are and exams are not multiple choice but easy if you study. Gives extra credit and his notes are really simple to follow. No book needed his notes are all you will need. He loves to teach and the class was fun. If you struggle in class stay after for office hours h willing to do one on one teaching. Would take him again.
One of the best professors I have ever had so far. His notes are simple and straightforward. No need of the book in his class. If you study like you should, this class will be a piece of cake. Stay for office hours and ask for help.
Professor Abrams is one of the best professor one can have. His notes are very clear and book is not required. Quizzes are helpful and easy if one studies for it. Tests are just an extension to the quizzes. Learned a lot of organic chemistry from Abrams. Also, his old notes, quizzes and tests are available from previous semesters.
Prof. Abrams is hands down the best and most engaged teacher I've ever had. In the classroom he is incredibly animated and actually cares whether you learn. It's hard to get a hold of him outside of the classroom, but c'est la vie.
We had a classroom full of students and most were confused and failing. I would not take this professor again
Hands down the best prof I've had at CCC. OrganicBiochem is potentially xtremely dry material, & overwhelming to take in short summer semester. He is very passionate about the subject and makes you love it. Uses variety of teaching techniques. Encourages you to email questions over the weekend. Only downside is I didn't know my grade all term.
Smart Man, scary teacher. Most of the class did not know what they had even on the last day of class. Right after drop period he changed up and gave us papers to teach ourselves. Most of the exams were not returned and the lessons were all over the place. Not good if you need structure. Cool is you want to teach yourself. Not recommended!
One of the worst professors ever. He is unorganized and arrogant. The entire class was confused about the class. Exams suck. We dint have our first exam back for over a month. Second exam was returned two days before class ended. Offers 75 extra credit points for a research presentation but u will be lucky if u get 5 Pts. AVOID AVOID AVOID.
terrible professor.
Charles is hands down the best chemistry professor I've had (I took four chemistry courses at Loyola University). He is very passionate and always willing to help outside of class. Chemistry is never going to be easy and nothing worthwhile comes without hard work. I am currently getting my MSN at DePaul and this course has been extremely helpful.
Professor Abrams is the best Chemistry professor that I ever had. He is very passionate about what he's doing. Orgo is not easy at all, that's why expect to study hard. Hw and Class participation is a must. If you want a LOR from him, you have to send it to him as early as possible because it can take as much as 2 months before he submits it.
GREAT prof. Easiness rating is a 3 b/c the material is not easy. Gives great analogies and makes the subject a whole lot easier to understand. Took orgo I @ DePaul, enjoyed his class more. Did better than the national average on the ACS, meaning: he'll teach you what you need to know and feel better prepared for standardized tests (DAT/PCAT/MCAT).
Great teacher! If you need to take organic chem., consider CHEM212 first. It will prepare you extremely well for it (STUDY). He made lectures fun and interesting with his humor and food tastings (eating foods that pertained to class material). Very knowledgeable in the sciences and gives amazing feedback/explanations for questions asked in class.
Always looked forward to this class. Very clear and organized lectures, covers tons of material. Very passionate about teaching and very good at it. Good for those who like a challenge. This class will keep you on your toes. Tough material, but I always felt engaged and prepared. Skip the textbook and use his notes and online resources.
Charlie is passionate about teaching and it comes through in his lectures. Don't bother with a book, I opened it once and it was unnecessary. His lecture notes are SO helpful and he gives access to previous quizzes, notes, etc for you to review and prep. Organic Chemistry is hard but he gives you every tool possible to succeed and is very hands on!
Professor Abrams is awesome! I had him last year fall knowing nothing about chemistry, but he is such a good teacher I left the class knowing a lot! His classes are NEVER boring. I definitely recommend him if you want to learn a lot while still enjoying lectures!
Professor Abrams is very great, professional and knowledgeable professor. Learned a lot from him. Labs were easy and fun to do. However, more homework and lectures are needed.
He is Awesome. If you really want to learn , just took him. No book needed. All of the test and quiz are from his lectures. you can also see previous test and quizez. 90% is same.
Very uncordinated and partisan lecturer. He is very a confusing and makes a lot of mistake a lot in class. Probably does not really know what he is teaching.
Professor Abrams is a brilliant teacher. Enthusiastic, cracks a lot of lame jokes, but still, very eager about Chemistry. He was able to get a (promo?) from Sapling including a free online textbook + access code for online homework. Downside? He's like that parent that repeats the question louder and angrier when the child gets the question wrong.
Bad about updating grades on Blackboard and returning quizzes. Went to the midterm without any idea of how I was doing in the class. Lots of mistakes in the classroom. You'd think he was new. Experimental online textbook and homework program but for all the trouble it's caused me I'd have preferred to pay for the book. Or taken a different course.
Professor Abrams is a passionate professor. He knows his stuff. You will get a good grade in his class if you read the textbook and do the homework. I strongly recommend him.
I didn't like this class at all
Dr Abrams is very personable and clearly wants all his students to succeed. He's fun, considerate, and tries to make the material engaging and interesting. He can be a little disorganized, so it can take a while (a month!) to get quizzes back, plans change on short notice, and he's often late or needs to print/do admin things during class time.
Abrams loves keeping things fresh and new. For instance: he claims to have been teaching chemistry for years, but his lack of preparation, constant mistakes, and uneven teaching style make it seem like his first semester. Somehow, he manages to pack 20 minutes of material into a four hour class!
The laziest professor i have ever seen in my life. Take my advice and don't take with him.
This professor MAKES you participate. He calls out students randomly, which keeps everyone on their toes. His teaching style is awesome, goes over concepts and examples and then has students try some on their own. I have learned more with him in a 2 month span than D ever did in a full year of Chemistry.
Charlie is tough, but very fair. A grade of "A" is definitely something you earn - just showing up everyday isn't enough; you need to participate and actively think about how this content will be applicable in your health care career. He doesn't make you do sh*t just to do sh*t - everything he makes you learn is applicable to your future!
If you rated Prof Abrams poorly - I challenge to name another professor that voluntarily provides ALL of the following: exam/quiz answer keys to old exams/quizzes, an app where he answers student questions at all hours of the day on weekends & weekdays; he also has the class notes posted within 20 minutes of class conclusions. I can wait...
Professor Abrams is one of the best teachers I have had at the City Colleges of Chicago. Chemistry is not an easy course but he makes it accessible and understandable. His lectures are well thought out and organized. If you do miss class he posts everything online. He truly wants his students to succeed and he supports you every step of the way!
Professor Abrams is my favorite professor so far at Truman. He is a very kind person and is totally passionate about organic chemistry. He wants you to succeed and offers extra support if needed. I definitely had to study very hard in order to grasp the concepts because O Chem is a difficult subject. I really enjoyed his class and his corny jokes!
He is unorganized and will change due dates multiple times, is always late for class, and takes forever to grade things. He teaches a few easy example problems the whole 4 hours of class then expects you to know how to do his ridiculous homework, quizzes, test. He's on his computer doing his own work half the class. He can be rude and condescending.
Professor Abrams was all and all a great teacher of orgo. Hell know you by name by the third week and participation matters but I learned a lot. Orgo is a hard subject so you really need to study outside of class too. Hes available to answer questions on groupme pretty much whenever. ACS orgo test is the final so its kinda impossible.
Professor Abrams' passion for teaching reflected each day he came to class. Sitting through his class was very rewarding, not only did I learn the materials, but I also understood them. He puts up old quizzes to study with. He truly wants his students to do well. I will definitely recommend your class to anyone having challenges
Great professor, his lectures were very straightforward and easy to understand even for a very difficult concept like organic chemistry. He also takes the time outside of class to go over homework or problems that we don't understand. It was also a rare opportunity to be able to operate the scientific instruments in person, which I really liked.
He knows how to teach the thing is once midterms come around he starts slacking. He encourages us to text him and email him with any questions. But when midterms are near, he stops responding & makes excuses why, & forgets to put in grades for homework, quizzes, EVERYTHING! Not to mention not having study guides for tests prepared until you insist
The greatest professor I have had throughout my college career thus far. Not only is he amazing at teaching Organic Chemistry material, but he genuinely cares about his students. He makes time for those who need extra help, he caters his teaching to the students in front of him which many college professors do not do- cannot say enough good things.
He's a goof prof, but here's some information you'd want to know. The exams consist of 2 parts, an online test (on Cengage) and a 1-on-1 with the prof for 15mins. And there's only two of these exams (+final), which. in total, are worth 60% of your grade. So you can't slack on any of them or your grade with fall beyond recovery! Beware & Good Luck!
I took this class this summer during pandemic. I am coming again in fall for organic 2 with him.I would have definitely failed this class if professor Abrams didnt help me out. You need to study because if he knows you study, rest assured he would do everything to help you out. He deeply care about his students. A real gem I would call him.
He is one of the few professors to actually care and make real accommodations for the pandemic. You have to stay on top of the content but he is there for you succeed providing so many resources, office hours, feedback, etc. Professor like this makes learning difficult content worth it.
Professor Charles Abrams has been one of the most attentive and caring instructors in my entire college experience. Yes organic chemistry is hard, but he makes it do-able. His accessibility through text is an amazing resource to have at hand. He was also very considerate of the pandemic crisis and worked around it by doing labs at home.
Organic chemistry is a beast of a class under the best of circumstances. Taking it over a condensed summer session during a pandemic can make it even more daunting. Even so, I can't say enough about Professor Abrams and his nonstop efforts to help us learn the material. You'll work your tail off, but rest assured that he's with you at every step.
Professor Abrams is a dedicated teacher. He tries to make organic chemistry interesting and relatable. He was very clear about what he looks for in grading and he's not too concerned with the fine details that organic chemistry can easily get lost in. He's very light-hearted and understanding and I enjoyed his teaching.
Abrams is easily one of my favorite teachers I have ever had. It's clear that he cares for his students and will go above and beyond to help them succeed, even taking the time outside of his office hours. The class is hard but as long as you pay attention and study you will get a good grade. Beware of ACS Final exam, it's different than his exams.
I was terrified of taking Organic Chemistry, but Professor Abrams was the answer to my prayers! He is not a professor who seeks to trip students up with trick questions on quizzes or exams--he just truly wants his students to understand the material. His lectures are clear and he is always available to answer student questions on Zoom and GroupMe.
Professor C. Abrams is the best science professor I have ever had! His boundless knowledge and professional and caring integration with students are fundamental to students' success in his class. He is always ready to help students during his office hours as soon as he sees students' effort during the course and assignments. Highly recommend him!
The class material is abundant, but Professor Abrams's detailed explanations make everything clear. You must study and put effort into each class material; additionally, he gives class notes, and his handbook is a masterpiece! Even though the lab was hard to do in this pandemic, he made labs very fun and cool to work on! I do highly recommend him!
Professor Abrams is the best professor ever! His way of explaining through various examples is amazing and makes Chemistry 212 simpler. Homework is always based exclusively on the things that were done during the lecture. We had a review before each exam, and I always knew what to expect at the exam. I highly recommend this class!
Professor Abrams is a gem! He wants his students to succeed and it is very transparent. Chemistry in general is a hard course, at least for me. I was very nervous to put my foot forward to take Survey of Organic and Biochemistry, but Professor Abrams can teach in such a way that a hard course is now understandable. He is always available to help.
Organic chem is a very hard class for most people, but he does a good job of breaking it down in lecture. He goes at a moderate pace during class, but he will slow it down when you want. If Org chem is really hard for you, he is very willing to meet with you during his office hours, and he will also give you tutoring resources.
He makes you work! He calls on you to participate and kept me on my toes, which I appreciated. If you don't understand something, he finds creative ways to teach you the material. He was truly inspirational. Do not be scared of him, but prepare yourself and listen to his advice. FLASHCARDS. Also BE PREPARED for his labs or you'll regret it!
Terrible professor, he doesn't care 3 hours class with easy examples and expect us to learn everything and do the difficult problems. pay for Cengage where all his assignments are assigned and are ridiculous it takes hours to make I had to drop the class he made us do labs in zoom where we had to tell him what to do, he also did verbal quizzes.
Professor Charles Abrams is the professor who always cares to help student succeed. He took time at 7 am, to explain everything in detail for the ones who struggled. His lectures gave solid knowledge that opened the chemistry and science world. He is very fair, respects the struggle and progress, and he is very caring. Highly recommend him!
For starters this professor is way too uptight, sure he may be "goofy" and tries to but it's just a mask. He is fair and does teach the material and tries to act as he cares. He is not responsive and is late for grading, you won't even get your midterm grade on time. If you're a stickler for rules, participate in class and read the book, take him.
i was amazed by the teacher's review but the whole class was disappointed with the professor. He never gave us our grades. he can be very rude when it comes to students not knowing what to do especially during lab. he used to cover 1 chapter per class which was a lot and he didn't give topics right he went by them really fast.
Stay away from this professor you've been warned. This person is rude, uptight, unorganized, condescending, arrogant, uneven teaching style has unprofessionalism, is demeaning, pedantic questions, and is uncoordinated.
Stay away from this person at all costs, he has live Zoom labs a student has to finish under a certain amount of time, quizzes are complex and have low time, exams are super hard, HW is ridiculous on Cengage, takes hours to finish. Lots of students dropped the course on the withdrawal date, no matter how much work you do he is never satisfied.
Professor does not give extra credit, I had to drop the class, the worse professor to be at campus. There are 3 exams, 2 exams are 50% on Cengage and 50% verbal and the final is just all multiple choice under 110 min has 70 questions, pathetic format. If you fail the verbal, he will take out points from online portion. Stay away he will ruin you.
I took OChem 1 over the summer with Charlie, making this an expedited, difficult class. I wanted to provide a rating because despite this class being tough, Charlie goes above and beyond to make sure he has his students' backs. He helps to simplify complex concepts through examples and metaphors, (adding more to next review bc of character limit)
Professor A. class is pretty hard, but rewarding in so many aspects, if you want to learn chemistry very well, should take him. Tried to reach him about any HW questions I did not understand. He explained everything clearly and scientifically. He makes you work and practice so that gained knowledge never leaves. His As' are to be deserved.
I would not take this professor again for chemistry. Student's who post positive reviews need to get checked again. His exams, quizzes and live Zoom labs are out of the blue and very tough.
I would heed this warning and not take this professor ever for chemistry.
Horrible professor
If I were you I would save my self the trouble and not take this class
Charlie is absolutely great. Look, organic and biochemistry is really tough subject matter, there's no way that it isn't. Charlie makes it approachable, will work with students who are struggling, and adjust pace accordingly. He always finds interesting ways to make the material relatable to healthcare careers. He's a cool guy.
Patience.
Professor Abrams really loves Organic Chemistry & really wants you to understand the material. If you truly want to learn Organic Chemistry & want an instructor that will do everything he can to help you in that endeavor, I strongly recommend Professor Abrams.
Fantastic professor! Genuinely passionate about Chemistry and teaches in a way that is helpful. Makes real-life references that are super helpful with remembering concepts. Can be funny sometimes too. Understands that Chemistry is already a very hard subject so he's not trying to make it harder. Exams are straightforward and based on lectures
Really great professor, he is very helpful and answers any questions you may have. Organic chemistry is a very difficult subject, but he tries to lighten the weight by adding in a bit of humor and applying to real life situations. I would definitely take a class by him again, I felt inspired to keep pushing through.
Overall, an excellent professor that's open to questions and makes sure you understand the topics. There are a lot of quizzes and homework but it's doable. Participation is mandatory. Labs are entertaining and understandable.
Organic Chemistry 2 is a difficult class and your success will largely be determined by the amount of effort you put forth outside of class. Sometimes the homework is a lot, but Professor Abrams literally constructs his exams from homework and quiz questions, so as long as you do the work you will perform well. Labs are well guided.
Super fun class! He provides a lot of resources from his previous CHEM 207 and CHEM 205 to help students understand the material and have a good foundation for the class. Open to questions and always willing to review any material you don't understand. Flexible office hours as long as you email him ahead of time.
Immediately sign up for Abrams
They care about their students succeeding in the class, providing several resources including notes and quizzes from previous courses they taught on Bright Space for students to learn. They are also open to meeting outside of office hours in order to help you understand the content :)
Abrams' class is notoriously challenging, but staying engaged and utilizing resources like the textbook and unstuckstudy can help you navigate the difficulty. The workload is heavy, but he is invested in student success.
Professor Abrams is so nice and genuinely cares. He has great lectures and the way the class is set up helps keep you on track. I would totally take his class again. Ochem is going to be hard no matter what, but he's a professor who wants you to succeed.
The WORST CHEMISTRY PROFESSOR ever! I wouldn't even recommend a dog to this professor! Dont only ready the positive comments! He fails to take proper attendance, he's very unprofessional and hostile, he yells at students, he doesn't help his students for ANYTHING and he'll REPORT you to the dean! Please chose another professor, I regret meeting him
people complain about ochem but prof Abrams is the REAL DEAL. straight up love him. this is a real educator. its actually rare to have a teacher this good. please be nice to him. I didnt hear students speak to him with a rude tone because he treats students with respect and so they were respect right back even though they were struggling.
Let me put it to you this way...I took 205 this fall and we recently started the spring semester and I MISS ORGANIC CHEMISTRY because his class was that good. We had a ton of fun in his office hours before class. This class is definitely difficult though. Stay away if you are not going to take it seriously and put in extra effort.
RUN from this professor as fast as you can. RUN! Please consider taking another chemistry class with a different professor. You won't learn nothing from his class. He DOES NOT know how to assist his students. Truman College needs to evaluate the professors they hire including him. He misuse his "power" as a professor. Will NEVER recommend him!
Charles Abrams is the most unprofessional professor I've ever had. Do not expect any grades within a reasonable time frame and he will completely ignore emails he doesn't feel like responding to. He doesn't always show up to his scheduled office hours and will not notify students if he can't attend. He is inconsiderate and disrespectful. Beware.
Believe in yourself that you can do it, and never give up. My first and second were difficult for me, but still, I keep pushing. Prof Abrams is a good professor. I will recommend him to you guys.
If you really want to learn, this class is for you.
I took his class in fall 2024, and he had to leave for jury duty. Our classes were canceled three times, and when he came back, everything was a big mess! We started to have a lecture and a lab on the same day. There was not enough time to do both, but he didn't want to change the schedule. He asks hard questions and makes things more complicated
Amazing !!!
He's a good chemist, but an awful teacher. When he's teaching it's like he's talking to one of his colleagues. He gets easily upset if you ask multiple questions; isn't reasonable, extremely rude, and is morally incompetent. Orgo chem is already complicated and he unnecessarily complicates it further. His job is his life's work. Pick someone else.
