Professor Barret has much screenwriting wisdom/expertise and he shares that, his time and energy, generously. He's tough but fair and you either get the concepts or you don't. Every screenwriter should take his class and soak up the essential story structure knowledge and information offered. Your screenwriting industry career hangs in the balance.

Provides thorough explanations for assignment grades. Answers student questions with thoughtful and helpful answers - so ask questions and you will learn more!

I think this is one of the best professors ever. I've had my share of online classes, and this man rocks. The class is not overly difficult, you just have to put in the time and effort. I learned so much in the span of 4 weeks that helped with my writing style, and overall understanding of the MFA program for future classes.

Professor Barrett offered resources that prepared students for the workplace. It's difficult breaking into the industry as a professional writer. The assignments equipped students to plan ahead and make realistic goals for obtaining a job in the industry. We were given tools to help us find gigs and internships while working our way up the ladder.

Be prepared to work on a schedule, which doesn't allow a hint of procrastination. The tools in this class prepare the writer to understand the structure of writing. The resources assist the student with analyzing different methods of writing needed to create a great story.

Professor Barrett gives a lot of reading material and quizzes but his quizzes are taken straight from the reading material. You will not be able to pass a quiz or complete the assignments without doing all the work assigned. You need to make sure that if you have a question. He is responsive when asking questions.

You must read everything he assigns or it's impossible to pass any of his quizzes. He is heavy on the reading but everything is essential to know. Send your questions early because he does take 24 hours to respond. Don't assume anything. If you don't understand ask and send a sample of your work. He is understanding and will work with you.

Professor Barrett was a tough but fair teacher of writing that made me work to deliver my best work. I believe that my work is much more impressive than it would've been had I continued on my current course, and I'm happy to have met him.

Barrett's the best. He knows his stuff, and does his absolute best to make sure his students understand the fundamentals of scriptwriting. Not only did he teach, he was able to ignite a passion for writing and make class enjoyable. Obviously attendance is needed to pass, but he's awesome and if you want to learn, he's your guy!

He honestly made the class worth staying for. His lectures were completely understandable and he isn't a boring talker. He makes you a better scriptwriter and inspires you to continue writing scripts even if you didn't like them before. He is a sarcastic person and makes little jokes here and there. He is a great professor, you'd like him.

Professor Barrett knows his stuff. Obviously that's important, but there are some professors who are knowledgable on the subject they're teaching, but don't care about the students. Professor Barrett did. He made sure all of his students knew we could talk to him at any time. He even called me once to basically just check in. We shared a laugh too.

The Scriptwriting Techniques class definitely poses as a difficult class to conquer upon first view. You will be overwhelmed and you will stress out. My advice to you is to take it easy and do all of the required readings. Take ALL of the assignments seriously. The script and outline assignments are the best! Stay focused and reach out for help! :)

Charles has been helpful throughout the time I have taken his class. He provided extensive feedback, which was extremely beneficial for me. The courseload is in depth and requires a lot of reading and a lot of writing of analysis (translation: you have to think a lot), more than my previous courses. However, this will prepare you for other classes.

Charles class is not some easy A, but it certainly is one of the most important classes you are going to take at Full Sail. He was very attentive during the lectures and supportive of our ideas. Great Professor overall!

I was very pleased to have Charles Barrett as my course instructor for Screenwriting Techniques. He was clear and concise about the concepts he is trying to convey; he explains why something is wrong but shows you on the spot how to make it better. Also, his years of experience come through when teaching how to make a good story a better one.

He is a very knowledgeable professor, soak in as much as you can from him.

I started out FREAKING the first week, but after having a one on one GoTo session with him, I understood everything. He's a great teacher, is there any time you need help and is willing to go above and beyond his duties if you need him. There is no reason to fail his class unless you just don't do the work. ASK HIM FOR HELP! He'll be there!

I took Script Analysis and Criticism with Ms. Barrett for my MFA Creative Writing. The class was very well organized, which was helpful. I give Ms. Barrett an A, mostly because of his exceptional ability to see exactly, why, you made the mistake you did, making his feedback successfully constructive.

If you are going to write, you need this class and this information. There is a lot of information to comprehend and a journey to take, so be prepared to read, write, and analyze A Hero's Journey, the Three Act Structure, and Turning Points. Without this information, you will never make it as a writer. I'd take the class again in a second.

Professor Barrett approached this class with a realistic vision of his audience. Instead of treating his class like seasoned professionals he treated us as students. He tailored his lessons and grading to reflect this. I know that I have a lot to learn, but I was graded as a student, not a professional.

The focus it takes to succeed in this class is tremendous. Professor Barrett pushes you and helps you analyze scripts in the most important way for a writer to gain understanding in the creative industry. He is here to help students be more than average, and that's what we should expect from a professor of a master's program.

Charles is honestly one of the best teachers at Full Sail, one of the few teachers I actually learned something from. He's also extremely funny which makes class a lot more fun and motivating to go to.

Charles is a rough teacher in that he will not spare your feelings with feedback, but this quality is what makes him a good choice for this course. As a writer the most important thing is how to improve and he will help you with that and force your best work out of you. Just be aware if you don't give any effort you won't do to well in the class.

Established a strong screenwriting foundation through this class. I am now confident enough to write a rough draft to send people for review. Prof. Barrett's method of reviewing student scripts in class and having the students evaluate them was priceless.

One of the tougher classes but the most awarding for education learning. Clearly produces large amount of resources for the course material and extras. Very strict grader but with its purpose to fully understand the format and methods of script writing.

This professor does a very good job of structuring his class so you can learn the correct ways of script writing properly and effectively. He does a very good job at what he does and teaches in a very easy manner to learn and understand, he uses many examples and teaches by doing. All an all he is an excellent teacher.

He may seem tough at first or even a bit blunt.. but he wants the best for you he wants everyone to do well, but also actually obtain the knowledge he is teaching. I wish I could retake the class all over again just to learn more from him. If you are having trouble he will stay after and workshop it with you. He really truly cares.

Mr. Barrett was very knowledgeable when it came to screenwriting and the film industry. He always asked for more and to strive for greatness which is something Full Sail desperately needs more of, especially in the earlier classes.

I have been in the film program 10 months, and he is by far my favorite! They are all very knowledgeable, but his charisma and natural entertaining character helps. I had no questions that I needed to ask him about anything, I was able to complete everything on my own without having to reach out to him multiple times. I would take another one of his classes.

I had to retake this course, and Charles's content was better laid out, making it easier to read and learn. It was less overwhelming to me.

This professor was great. Despite being a hard grader, the professor was kind, understanding, and flexible. I often feel like professors are too easy to get perfect scores, so I really appreciated the fact that he was a thorough and tough grader. The class was challenging making the scoring more rewarding in the end and I learned a lot.

Professor Barrett was a pretty great teacher. He was able to help with my ADHD got a bit out of hand. He gave me good feedback on my script and how to improve. Could not have asked for a better instructor for this class.

Going into the class I wasn't very exicted about scriptwriting as I don't consider myself a very creative person when it comes to writing ideas but I was pleasently suprised as the class went on. I rated him specifically against other Full Sail instructors for the difficulty level because I think most FSU instructors are pretty lax/easy on grading. There was so much information provided in this course and great feedback.

Professor Barrett is very well versed on scriptwriting format and technique, very knowledgable on the subject with, obviously, years of experience in the industry that made for a great learning experience. He knows what is needed to write an effective script as well as the various types (film or commercial). A valuable learning experience.

I've taken online courses on and off since January of 2020, and this was by far the best. It's extremely well put-together. The expectations are incredibly clear. The flow is methodical and easy to follow. And the instructor offers thought organization templates and rule/style guidelines that are extremely helpful for the process. Great course.

Professor Barrett and Professor Bird provided me with very beneficial information to help me grow and adapt my writing towards short film making as well as their thoughts on a novel type of writing which was one thing that I struggled to translate between the two. After this class I am better prepared to adapt my writing as needed!

Prof. Barrett is an amazing Professor and explains the assignments very well so I would suggest attending the zoom lectures. I would also suggest watching them while you write your scripts. Another key is to print out the checklist if you can. It's a big help.
