Charles is awesome. He's hot, helpful and so amusing in lecture. He's a very positive man whose class is enlightening for anyone who wants to incorporate society and the education field. I recommend his class over and over to anyone. He's delightful.

I LOVED this course and this prof. Take a course with him, you will not regret it. I connects what he talks about with real world experiences. He actually *talks* with his students(a new idea,I know). He knows his stuff and is very passionate about what he teaches. LOVE HIM

This has been my favourite class in all my years at SFU. He cares about his students and what he teaches and has all these experiences and anecdotes that he uses to illustrate the material. Students are viewed as equals, not "inferiors." I recommend this to ANYONE, especially those going into the teaching field. Great class.
Cares about students a lot. Understands the youth. Lectures are OUTSTANDING, you get drawn in by his teaching performance despite having a 8:30class. Uses what he teaches to benefit future generations.
Charles is awesome, not to mention hot. However, has a problem connecting with his students. Many people have said they felt ignored, including myself. But hey, there's one of him and hundreds of us. Basically he should either not talk so much about caring or practice what he preaches. He's quite cold and moody, but very intelligent. I learned much
He's an awsome professor, not to mention, a very linent and laid-back one. TA's are very helpful and easy markers. There is no need to come to ANY of the lectures, aside the first (which talks about the four mechanisms) but tutorials are a must. Essays are your choice, relating to your thoughts and opinions on social education. VERY EASY!
One of my favourite classes/profs ever. Lectures are amazing - on the first day, the entire lecture was centred around a final exam instructions sheet he just *found* there and was extremely interesting. Great method for paper topics - your choice. Really enlightened me about what a teacher should be. Encourages interactivity during lecture.
Laid Back, Easy Going, Funny. A Great Teacher.
Easiest A in history, awesome GPA booster, but lectures are pointless, and he doesn't give breaks for some reason. Lecture topics seem somewhat aimless and you never know what to take notes on. There are no tests and the papers and presentation are very simple. Tutorials were good, TA's are nice and mark easy.
I literally found this class a joke. Although there were a lot of interesting points brought about in lecture, it was often too laid back for my liking. The assignments and papers with without guidelines. If you need to increase your GPA definately take this. You won't have to put in much work except some reading, two short assignments and a paper.
The class is indeed easy and a good gpa booster, however the class was not a joke. Charles wakes you up! The assignments are straight forward. He is one of the best profs I have ever had, he has some important things to make public. He is very respected and highly recommended. Not only will you get a good mark, but you will learn.
this teacher is the worst. I had him for EDUC 240 and PDP. He is very unclear and unorganized. Often he didn't even show up to teach us and his excuse was that he just forgot. He also yelled at one of the students for asking a simple question-he was totally unprofessional.
This was one of my most favourite classes at SFU. although he seemed spaced out at times, his thougths and ideas regarding education are VERY interesting and valid at every level. i learned 100 times more in this class then in any other class ive taken. definate gpa boost but its not about the gpa.. take the class its FUN!
He is kind, caring and laid back. He is very understanding and tries hard what he is doing! As long as you do good on your papers for this class you will receive good mark!
As long as you do good on your papers you will get good mark!
He was interested in certain students comments and completely uninterested in others. oh well. he's human and liable to be a bit of a meanie. otherwise, very thought provoking class. i really enjoyed the course material.
I really cant take just 350 words to explain how AMAZING Charles was. He really inspired me to become the best teacher I can be and opened my eyes about a lot of social issues going on today. He is BY FAR my favourite prof in my three years here. I will DEFINATELY crash his 240 class in the fall! So refreshing to see a prof as passionate as him! =D
This was my last semester to complete my BA and I can say that this class with Charles was my favourite class I have ever taken at SFU. Thought provoking issues from a professor who is obviously passionate about the topics.
This class was the easiest A I've ever gotten in university. He is very passionate about what he teaches, even though sometimes it is unclear what he's trying say. He says the odd weird thing, but a very nice guy and good prof. Plus he's the easiest marker I've ever had.
Very passionate prof. and very easy marker. Has a very wide range of experiences teaching and is very insightful. Definitely recommend this class if you are planning on going into teaching. Plus it wont hurt your GPA as long as you do all of your assignments
He was very passionate about what we were learning. At first I didn't think I would enjoy the class but after a while I really enjoyed the subject and thought he did well. Sometimes he jumped all over the place but it was a nice easy class!
Fun, interesting, easy class
Charles is a phenomenal prof. The material was interesting and thought provoking. He was very thorough answering questions and shared many of his personal experiences to give examples. Overall an excellenT prof. I highly recommend taking his social issues class!!
Very interesting professor! The idea of the majority of the class being marked on a single project was daunting at first, but incredibly worthwhile in the end. He was clear during lectures and kept them interesting with guests and audio/visual components. Definitely learned a lot in this class!
A MUST take class!! This class opens my mind and the way about education system and social issues. Everything in this class is related to our everyday life. It will help your life alot in the future. He is my #1 favorite teacher in my 4 yrs school. Jason is my TA and he is the BEST I've ever had!! Easiest A I've got.
One of the best teacher's I have ever had.
Great class, truly was not expecting much from this class but it really blew me away. Would take it again if I could. Recommended!
Was an awesome prof. very funny, very interested in his students. His stories and teaching style is very invigorating and unique
The best proff I ever had. He left me mind blown. The only proff's name I will remember. Teaching style was awesome and so was the topics he touched. Take without hesitation any class with him. Give you my word.
Amazing. best prof ever.
Very nice prof. Friendly. Course is very interesting for both people interested in teaching and social issues in general
A great class for anyone interested in going into the field of education. Very interesting topics relevant to education today. Discussion and questions always encouraged in lectures. Overall, a class that I thoroughly enjoyed
Charles is a really nice prof and willing to help his students when they have problems. Lectures are really interesting and allow us to have a better understanding of the global education system. Assignments are very broad but it allows us to do more exploration and gain more knowledge from it. Awesome class and prof!
Hand down best prof at SFU. Lectures were always interesting and Bing is clearly passionate about education. I would highly recommend not only to education students but anyone who wants to learn a different approach to our education system.
A very enlightening class. Bing is great. Super passionate. His views can be very narrow minded on some topics. He talked A LOT about HIS opinion. I would have appreciated perspectives from the rest of the world as well. But all in all, it was a great class.
Honestly: take this class. If you're an educ major or otherwise, it will blow your mind. I wasn't expecting much from this class but it's changed my outlook on everything education related. Bing is an amazing prof. His passion for education and shifting attitudes is infectious. Out of 4 years of courses, only this one will stick with me.
Really amazing class. Came in skeptical, came out enlightened. Like everyone else has said, take this class. Don't worry about the project; it's not a big deal at all. Jason is the T.A. you want to get. Overall an easy class that I learned a lot from.
Really enjoyed the discussions in this class! Great prof-- really open and down to earth. :)
REALLY GOOD PROF. TAKE HIS CLASS.
The lecture and tutorials are really inspiring. Lectures are participation based, which is awesome! The projects are fun and challenging, although the class is really easy. But since it's easy and interesting, it's really worth it. The TAs know when you're not putting in the effort, so try and enjoy yourself a bit!
MUST TAKE THIS CLASS WITH BING! SUPER GOOD PROF
This class has been one of the most amazing experience in my educational life. Dr.Bingham is the most open-minded, interesting, inspiring professor I've met in a long time (if not ever!). I now aspire to bring change in my own education and the education of others.
Great lecture and tutorials - easy to get a good grade as long as you do the readings and put in a lot of effort. It's more about "doing" than "memorizing".
Bing is incredible. His class should be taken by everyone, regardless of your faculty. The course is not "easy" but it makes you think. You'll do extremely well if you engage in the course. Inspiring! He's extremely respectful of the students and will change your life - I promise (for the better too!)
The course itself teaches one how to be human. In other words, you get a sense of what it is like to be a sensible educator, which is not an easy task per se. The lectures discuss all of the social issues that need to be fixed in our educational system, which makes one think critically, instead of regurgitating facts. Attend all classestutorials!
Bing is an AMAZING prof and Jason is an incredible TA - together they make the class so inspiring! Lectures are fascinating and really speak to social issues and issues regarding the educational system. Tutorials are just as fun - you get to know your classmates and have the freedom to openly discuss the texts! This class is honestly life changing!
This class is ONLY easy if you are inspired, love education, and love critically thinking outside the norm. Best course by far and I cannot believe this is a 200 level class. EDU 240, taken with Bing and TA-Jason. C. this course is unique, eye opening and truly should be mandatory. LOVE LOVE LOVE this class. Sad it was over :(
By far the best class I will and have ever taken. Jason is an awesome TA, hes easy to talk to and probably one of the greatest TA's I have ever had. Bing himself is a legend, deserves a standing ovation at the end of every lecture. Thank you for inspiring me to be better. (These are the type of educators that we need).
This class changed me for the better. Charles, Jason, and Emily are a very effective team and each of them have opened my eyes to social issues. If you want to have conversations that leave you on the edge of your seat, take this class. You will have an opportunity to express your opinions and there is a lot of open dialogue.
I had taken EDUC 240 with Bing, and then took the Directed Studies (490) as a Speaker, and I still would take it all again. Bing is inspirational, wise, and cares about your thoughts and experiences. He doesn't give you the typical rubric of what he wants because he wants you to do what YOU want. He is a great person and a great prof.
Bing is worth it.
Greatest class I've been to so far in my university life. Very good topics discussed and lectures are engaging and full of wisdom.
Bing truly is a legend. Not only is he extremely smart and passionate about the social issues he talks about, but he is a genuinely nice and caring person. If every prof was like Bing, school would be loved by EVERYONE. Will definitely try and take another course with him before I graduate.
His lectures are amazing and inspirational. If you are going to take this course with NO interest in education (and just going to skip classes and slack off) but with a belief that its a GPA Booster, dont. Its such an insult, especially in front of Bing, who really cares about what he teaches. And you wont do great anyway if you miss out.
Bing's approach to this class was "off the grid," so don't expect any graded feedback, but this works towards your benefit. His teaching style will have you excited for learning for the sake of learning. However, this class is what you make it, and there will be a very large amount of written homework. I would definitely recommend this prof!
AMAZING PROF, i think i grew as a person and student in that class. The assignments allow you to be creative and really connect with the material. 100% would recommend
THIS GUY IS AMAZING! If you want to be an educator take this class I guarantee you will think differently about the system and the way you approach education. He is the type of teacher that reminds me why I do what I do and why I want to teach. Thank you Bing for reminding me! This guy encourages creativity and learning for the sake of learning
He genuinely cares what you have to say. Lecture is a giant tutorial and ta's allow you to participate in whatever way makes you comfortable. Attendance isn't mandatory but it's a slap in Bing's face to people who take this class as just a gpa booster and don't show up because he genuinely gives a hoot. Highly recommend if you want to learn
Amazing course!
Bing is so nice, and a very interesting guy. This class is SO easy, while making you think about important things in society. I would recommend this class to everyone, because I think it helps develop compassion. It is a GPA booster, yet also pretty interesting. If you get Matthew as a TA you are lucky, he is AWESOME.
Bing is a really cool prof, this course was definitely a GPA booster too. Our TA Matthew was also amazing. Between the two of them, I loved this course. Really interesting concepts are presented in this court and Bing explains them very well. He also always has lots of stories! I would definitely recommend this course to others!
Simply put, THE best professor at SFU. He is no prof like you have ever seen. Keeps you engaged throughout the whole class, and loves his students. One of the most caring teachers I've had in my life. Yeah its a super easy class, but I did not even care about my grade because I was so drawn into hearing him speak. Thanks Bing you're the man!!!
Bing is an amazing professor. He encourages students to critically think about so many issues in education as well as the rest of the world. I took his class last semester and I am constantly referring back to notes and material used in his lectures as all his sources were extremely fascinating. I definitely recommend this class!
Such an eye opening, amazing class. It doesn't feel like a typical university lecture class. Tutorials are just as fun. I really enjoyed Charles and the course itself. Thanks for an amazing semster. I'm not even an education major, but I learned alot and will apply it to my life and other courses!!
Charles I found kind of scattered and all over the place with his lectures. He didn't really have a clear structure. The content was interesting but they make the grading for this class hard. I heard it was an easy A and I only got a B.
Loved it. Definitely one of the more unique classes I've taken at SFU. Lectures are made interesting with Bing's relevant stories to the material. Light and easy class that really makes you reflect on past experiences to see education in a different perspective!
Bing is great. So caring and sincere. If you put in the effort, you will get a high mark. But you actually have to go to tutorials and lectures and complete the (easy) assignments. People who dont do well simply didnt try. Highly recommend.
Bing is the best prof at SFU hands down! His lectures are super personal, all you really have to do is go to class with an open mind, and listen to what he says. Tutorials are a must in my opinion, and participation is encouraged. Wish I didn't pass the course so I can take it again. Amazing class!
Charles is caring and very inspirational. He makes sure the students learn in an engaging and fun environment. He is well respected and an amazing speaker. Would definitely take more classes with him.
I seriously love him so much. He changed my perspective in such unique ways and makes education wonderful. I LOVE him. Everyone does. Thank you for being so so so so so so so wonderful! Best class and prof I have ever had in all my years at SFU. hands DOWN!!!
Charles is an outstanding prof, one of the best I've ever had! His lectures are so inspiring and he is so charismatic, it makes a lecture go by so quickly because it's so good. I would recommend that everyone have at least 1 course with him, it'll change your perspective on so many things!
Great prof. His lectures are very personal, so you really get a deeper understanding of the course topics. His lectures are never boring and he gives readings that help give a deeper understanding of the topics. I definitely recommend taking a course with Dr. Bing.
The BEST prof!! I loved his class and I was so disappointed when everything moved online. If you're interested in education or in becoming an educator, this course is a must! The content was truly inspiring and definitely made me reflect on my past education and think differently about education as a whole. Very valuable content + easy assignments!
BEST PROF EVER! Bing is very outside the box, easygoing, friendly and approachable. His instructions/assignments can be unclear at times, but if you show up, ask questions and make an effort, you won't regret it. His lectures are half academic, half storytelling - always interesting. I would recommend everyone take a class with him!
Best professor I have ever had, amazing assignments (allows you to be creative), and doesn't pressure you the way other profs do. Really speechless as to how I loved this course and the professor. Fun fact: this was the last in-person lecture I attended before they shut down university for COVID. But really, you'll never regret taking this class.
Honestly one of the best professors I've ever had. His course has really opened my mind to the world of education and plus he's an amazing person.
If youre on this rate my prof to decide whether or not to take Charles class - DO IT. He is an amazing lecturer and is very passionate about the material. I would undoubtedly take another class with Charles if the opportunity arose!!!!
One of the best profs I have ever had at SFU. Unlike most profs during COVID-19 remtoe learning, Bing actually made it very accessible to participate and reach out. His lectures are very fun and makes you really think deeply. 5/5 would definitely take another class with him
Charles is an awesome professor, but I'd never pay attention to class. Entire grade is based on weekly logs (super easy), interview (simple), participation (show up to class), and the final project (vague criteria; do whatever you want). Tutorials are more important than the lecture, imo. The class is just a good GPA booster.
This is my second time in a course with Dr. Bingham, and I have to say that he is the best education prof at SFU hands down. His teaching style is unique and philosophical, but he has been the most influential professor that I have had in terms of shaping my teaching pedagogy. Course grading is fair and materials are interesting!
Charles is the most inspiring professor I have yet encountered. His lectures are super engaging because they are mostly filled with story telling about his own personal accomplishments (which are motivational). just show up to lectures and take notes and you will be fine. All of the assignments, project and interview are super simple.
He's a well-respected prof for a reasonhe's kind, intelligent, and inspiring. However, I noticed he often came to class unprepared, resulting in personal tangents. Lectures would sometimes be cancelled 2h before start time and I felt like it was a waste of my money and time (each lecture was around 2h 50min long). Easy marker/easy class though!
I have had Dr. Bingham as my prof for 2 courses (educ 100 and 240) and keep hoping to find another course that he teaches. He is hands down my favourite prof that I have had at SFU. He made the lectures engaging and explained things very thoroughly. He gave really insightful feedback and made learning the content very enjoyable!
His lectures are always interesting and very inspirational. He doesn't use slides to conduct his lecture, he just uses the readings or artifacts to guide what he discusses. He's hilarious and unlike any Prof I've had. Highly recommend! No quizzes or exams in EDUC240! Just a project at the end of the semester. He doesn't give clear criteria though
Charles is the most wholesome professor. He is so kind hearted and truly cares about his students. He is the best professor I have had at SFU and he makes me feel like this is how school and teachers should all be like. Caring of your mental health, understanding, and patient. He understands that we are just human and we make mistakes.
Such an unorganized prof with the most unorganized TAS. The lectures were super random and all over the place. Never had slides. He just rambled forever. Worst class I have ever taken by far.
Lectures are really engaging and the course concepts are really interesting. Weekly readings and logs and a project for grading, but very do-able and you have a lot of freedom to write about what you want as long as you refer to readings and lecture. Funny guy but rambles a lot. Lecture is mandatory as you have to input attendance to get a grade.
Genuinely speaking, Bingham is a one of a kind academic inspiration unlike any other that I have ever witnessed in undergrad. Lecture concepts share a common philosophical thread that all tie into the course themes in which he explains and reiterates thoroughly throughout the semester. Workload was quite easy and the marking was reasonable.
His lectures are highly unprepared and he just keeps yapping about his personal life. Interesting readings but we don't really talk about them. The tutorial addresses the readings more than the lecture. No slides. Pretends everything is a big revelation when it's the most basic thing we have all heard about already.
He is amazing. Yes he goes on tangents but he cares about everything he teaches. Easily the best prof I've had at SFU highly recommend. Tutorials will go over the readings and the lectures are their own thing.
Bing really is a super caring and nice teacher. His lectures are always engaging and he makes me want to learn more. I felt happy coming to his class. Super kind person and I would recommend him highly!
I've never written a review but he deserves it. I'm not finished the course yet but Bing and the TA's genuinely want their students to succeed. All you have to do is go to class (he does do attendance) and go to tuts. Tuts are super easy the first half is literally basically just grounding exercises. Take this class if you want to boost your gpa!
Both the Prof and the TA are so nice. They give really good feedback and are always willing to help. The course itself isn't hard at all, very manageable. Honestly one of the most chill classes I've taken
The funniest, most caring professor ever. He makes learning so much fun and his classes are so engaging. Three hours fly by with him as the professor.
The best I professor ive ever had! He's an easy marker and super funny. Most of the time it is easy to get by without doing any of the readings assigned as he basically summarizes everything important the next class. He makes learning fun and never puts too much pressure on a student. He also watched movies with us and tells stories, Love him!
chill and caring prof, some of the logs were marked sort of harshly, but overall great course grading scale is cooked though
This class was very interesting. There are weekly logs based on the lectures and readings. He is an easy grader, but make sure to do good on the final project, as it is worth 40% of the final grade.
As a 1st year, I took his class for Education. I enjoyed listening to Bingham's lectures, although it seemed like they weren't fully planned, but he always knew what to talk about. The TA I got was a tough grader, but she is really nice and understandable. I learned more from her tutorial class than Bingham's lectures. Final project had no rubric.
