I really like Dr. Bodkin. Made class funny. Wished he would teach all semester.

Funny teacher; made class interesting.
Dr. Bodkin is a Great teacher , Very helpful he sees you are tying to do well.

Not clear on his expectations re:projects, but interesting class.
Bodkin is fair but is very specific and picky at times..overall a good prof!!
Good teacher, seems to enjoy teaching his field of study

good lecturer. tests are vague, requires lots of reading
great prof. funny & interesting. look forward to class.
Requires lots of reading for tests..Don't know what to expect on tests at all..
who cares if I drink sprite , thats all I learned, vague&exams even more vague
funny but hard tests, sometimes not even from book, tricky questions 2.
TRICKY TESTS, MUST KNOW MATERIAL WELL, BUT IS A GOOD TEACHER
very good teacher, very interesting. exams r from the book..need lots of reading

Decent Teacher, likes GM ALOT
Great teacher, Tests easy, definately take him!!!!!!!!!
funny guy, interesting, makes class enjoyable...tests kinda tricky, read powerpoint slides and follow along in book.
Test are hard and tricky. Not understanding at all about missing class for a doctors appt or for work. Make sure you are never sick in his class!!
Very nice guy, willing to help, TAKE HIM!
This class is a joke, very easy. Just memorize and regeritate for the tests. Go to 50% of classes and still have an A.
vauge, & somewhat like a 3 dollar bill
Excellent Prof. Take him for MBAD6171 if you can get him. He makes the course interesting through a variety of assignments that really make you think.
Funny ****, I mean guy. I enjoyed the class, but didn't memorize the book. Too bad, I needed that B.
Buy the study guide book,I got a B and all I read was the study guide. If you don't like going to class or reading a long book..take the short-cut!! he's too boring to go to class
Great professor! He motivates you. I have never been so motivated to achieve a decent grade. Alas, I have to settle for a C. I would advise taking his class - I walked away with a wealth of knowledge. Tests are not easy. Study the power points slides
Motivating, even in a night class! Study powerpoints closely for tests. Interesting class.
Good teacher, go to class and will excel. Read chapers and buy the study guide (will help you).
i recommend him but make sure you buy the study guide, because the tests are rather similar.
this guy is funny and class is not boring. he's fair and he has some great examples and his clas is very interactive. take this guy. he's not easy but not hard either.
Useful class. Lots of work, but he is working on paring down the workload. In the fall each week's assignments took over 6 hours to complete excluding projects. Cases were very relevant and interesting.
Great lecturer, never had trouble staying awake, even for a 3 hour class.
I took him about 11 years ago. He is a nice guy and very fair. He also brings real world experience into the classroom (Big Plus). There are no games. Just read the assignments, come to class, and participate.

He is very funny and energetic, you will definantly stay awake. Book and powerpoint slides are helpful for tests. I had the Bodkin/Amato combo and enjoyed his portion a lot.
You know I wonder if he's putting up these ratings below for himself. He is NOT nice, is NOT helpful. and his tests are AWESOMELY difficult!!! Study Powerpoints, & Study Guide & Book and you might just end up with a B. Or you can take him over and then ma
11 years is good, why not quit now?

easier than amato..yes. How easy he is himself, not very much. Study Guide, and powerpoint. Don't set your goals too high for this class.
Interseting, but Amato was the easier half of the semster. Study guide is a huge help.
This class should count towards your masters instead of bachelors...Oh SNAP!!! You go girl!!!!
The man is not easy, but then again, the whole department is like that. Study guide-yes, powerpoint is blank...don't worry, it'll be better the second time you take the class....you will, you'll see
In my opinion Bodkin was harder than Amato. It may just be that the beginning material is harder. The study guide is a MUST. The class is not that difficult. If you fail the class, perhaps business school isn't for you.
Such a great professor. SO funny, energetic and helpful! Keeps you awake all the time. Although, he is a tough guy in terms of exams, quizes, papers, presentations coming left and right, you learn a lot.
All about the test questions
Wow...I am taking this course currently and Dr. Amato just started teaching today. For my grades sake, I hope that she is more clear and sticks to the material that she intends to test on. Dr. Bodkin gives a lot of examples in class but never stresses the material that he will be testing on.
Marketing is not a hard class. If you read the book and do the study guide you are promised an "A" in the class.
This guy sucks. I studied so hard and got a D in his part of the class and should have gotten a B because in Amatos part I did really well. He sucks sucks sucks.
Really nice guy. A little unclear in his teaching. Did better in Amato's section of the class.

If you think this is an easy class, think twice. I like Amato, Bodkin as well(they teach together), he is helpfull and clear, but tests can be tricky. Got an A in the class, but have to work realy hard for it! To make your life much easier, get study guide - tests are very much like study guide. I learned a lot, no question. Worth every penny!
Very interesting class. He keeps you interested. Would recommend him!
Hard teacher! Go to class eventhough nothing from class is on the test! Read the book to do well on tests! There is no homework except to read the book. I got a D in this class and it took me the whole term to figure out how to take the test but it was too late. If you don't like reading the book, don't take this class! Class notes useless!
His portion of the class was ok, but when it came to tests...they were horrible! This class you have to read to get an A and study every single night. I didn't like this class at all.
Funny and easy to listen to. He is fruity but has a good time with the class. His part is a little tough but get and use the study guide and you will have no problem. The class changes to a new teahcer half way through and the test change a little so the study guide wont help as much.
Best professor in the mktg dept. Took another professor for mktg before & failed the class but with this professor I'm making B's! Easy, great examples & stories, fun, & if you read the book & then the study guide, you will do good on his tests. I will miss him the last half of the semester:(
I think he is a great professor...he makes the material very interesting and brings a lot of real-life situations into the lectures. His class initiated my interest in marketing and now I'm majoring in it.
Great professor. Most of the material on the exams (for Bodkin AND Amato, all semester long) comes from the TEXTBOOK so make sure you READ the chapters- people always whine that they did poorly on the tests, but they never READ the chapters. If you read them and know what's in 'em (and pay attention in class) you will do fine.
His tests are retarded. I studied alot for the first one and pulled a 70. Half of the questions can be argued down to 2 answers. Hes an ok teacher but grades are important so don't take him.
Seems that you learn a lot from lectures, but apparently not. Got a 68 on first test (though I didn't read the book at all and based it only on his notes). Got a 76 on the second test (studied chapters thoroughly, taking notes along the way). So I guess studying didn't help much. I will not take him again.
I thought his lecture were much more interesting than Amato's lectures. Amato is nicer but will bore you. Bodkin's tests are much tricker. I made sure to show up for class when he was teaching. I read the chapters twice before test time b/c his tests are hard. I could've gotten an A if Amato taught the entire semester. Overall this topic is easy.
Very nice and keeps class interesting. Attendance is not mandatory and all slides are online (but there are some blanks to fill in in class). Take notes on the examples given in class & you will do well. I have a B easy.
Very nice and keeps class interesting. Attendance is not mandatory and all slides are online (but there are some blanks to fill in in class). Take notes on the examples given in class & you will do well. I have a B easy.
Goes way too fast, have to tell him to slow down constantly even so he doesn't fully explain math concepts. He expects you to know your accounting stuff right off the bat, as if you took ACCT yesterday. Be sure to start on your project ASAP because it is ALOT of work. Read study questions from companion website b/c some are on the test.
The Bod. Keeps class pretty interesting. Tests are hard and he doesn't really prepare you for them in class. Read the book and get the study guide and you should do fine.
Avoid if looking for an A. Usually I can figure a class out but not this time. Grade is based on 4 exams only. Impossible to prepare for the tests with the pace of this class. Covers 1 chapter a day, expected to know all of the minuscule details of everything he says. Conceptually, the material is straightforward, exams are tedious. Disappointing.
We had 4 tests in the class. I never even read the chapters. All you need to do is study the learning objectives in the book. With minimal effort I got a B in this class.
This is the worst class I've ever taken. I have never gotten a C or D on any tests in college before this class. Going to class is a big waste of time because you do not learn anything. He is fairly entertaining though with his stories; but that doesn't help your grade obviously. Ridiculous grading policy; won't round up 79.9 to an 80.
Horrible teacher, nothing he says in class is on the test. The material is straight forward in the book but that again has nothing to do with the stuff he makes up for the test. DONT EVER TAKE THIS TEACHER
I am in this course right now and I am confused about the two comments before mine. He is very friendly and the tests are not hard. I made a 95 on the first one and a 90 on the second one just by reading the chapters and doing the practice questions online. He also gives a lot of extra credit. Ignore bad reviews..take him!
NO BUENO! Lectures skim the book material, so you must go back and read every word to prepare for the test. Test Q's are questionably relevant and deliberately tricky. Made my lowest grade in college on his second one. Was able to pull out an A by a miracle. FANTASTIC guest speakers--almost worth the price of admission alone. So much more to say..
Great professor. Class can get somewhat boring at times since it is all lecture. Do practice tests online before taking test and will do fine on the test. Has extra credit surveys. Take little time and add 2 points to average.
ughh the lectures barely cover the material needed for the tests. the test questions are hard and tricky. i hate this class. the course content is simple, but the class work is not.
Marketing is easy, he knows it and teaches like it is. Yet, he makes the tests tricky and harder than it needs to be. Wants you to get a good grade, yet does nothing during lecture to accomplish that. Lectures barely cover tests. Puts random questions from random things he says during a lecture. Test 4 was ridiculous, I don't recommend.
I had bodkin for marketing concepts. For all you slacker students (like me) who dont want to go to class hes perfect. His lectures and slides are pointless. Read the chapters for the tests and your straight. Failed the first one bcuz i studied slides, B's on the last three bcuz i read the chapters.
nice enough professor, gives opportunity for extra credit. the tests are very tricky, you need to read every word from the textbook to do well.
The lectures was nearly pointless to go to. He does know marketing but the test does not reflect what goes over in class. The tests are almost word for word from the book. Just read thoroughly and you'll pass.
frankly, hard class. professor is very engaging and knowledgeable, but to do well on tests(very tricky ones)you have to REALLY KNOW the book! plus, he announced that for summer, there will be additional projects and researches to work on, and also he's planning to start using clicker.
Great Professor. Knows his material and expects you to as well. Tests are difficult due to application-type questions. Very approachable and has interesting guest speakers.
Great Lecturer, interesting and engaging. You must purchase your book in order to do well on the test. I have to thoroughly read my chapters at least twice in order to obtain a low B on the test. Great guest speakers and he does give ways to pull up grades from test such as Survey's and guest speaker points.
Difficult class. Must read every word in the book to even get close to passing. Slides online are useless. Mandatory speaker points and surveys online-- NOT extra credit because not doing them will lower your grade. Final covers 22 chapters with no study guide.
Pretty good professor. If you want to do good on his tests you have to read the book. You want to do good in his class study the definitions and read the book.
hard. easy concepts but tests are impossible.i read the PPts and book and still couldnt get above a C. tests are A-E, not A-D. all answers seem right. will also do this: D-A and C only, E-all of the above. curves grades but there is NO EXTRA CREDIT. doesnt check attndce but there are in class activities that cant be made up.
It's really not a bad class at all if you go and do your assignments.
Dr. Bodkin's personality will keep you into the discussion generally. My main gripe is that he goes "off-book" a lot in the powerpoints, however still flies through the material. If you miss a class or zone out for a minute, you've missed it an there is no going back. Overall, however, the course is an easy B.
This class is terrible. It's an intro class that is taught like everyone is a marketing major. The tests are crazy and each chapter ppt is 70+ slides so its just too much info for an intro class. If you have another option please choose it, this class sucks. I would say over half of the class has dropped, so thats 100+ people. Don't take!!
Easy class if you did your work and attended class. Doesn't take attendance, but has guest speakers throughout the semester! Highly recommended!
Great professor! Tests are a little challenging but if you just go listen in class and read then you will do ok! Absolute thrill in class and very helpful in office hours! Take him!
He tries to make it interesting but it is all power points. No need to go to class as long as u read the book! Study guide helps!! Never went to class expect when there was a guest speaker.. even then you sign in and are free to leave right after that! Test are somewhat hard, very similar answers. Must read the book to get A!!
Read, Study, and sleep with the book, he goes way to fast he covers a chapter every single day or two!!
Nice professor but not very good at teaching. He covers a chapter a day & his power pts are super long. His tests are complicated & cover 5 chpts. I wish I was able to find another professor. Hwk is on connect. He does add stuff covered only in class, on his tests. Attendance isn't mandatory tho. He just started using the clicker this month.
Honesty it was not a class at all but you should be able to get an A if you read the book and study. I used pearson's mymarketinglab and I think it was extremely helpful for the tests. He is a ok professor, willing to let students speak. He offered optional final and extra credit. Overall, I recommend him.
Honestly, it was not an easy class. But you should be able to get an A if you read the book and study. I used pearson's mymarketinglab and it was extremely helpful for the tests. He is a ok professor, willing to let students speak. He offers optional final and extra credit. Overall, I will recommend him.
use CONNECT with MANY assignments. Have the first 3 test 2 weeks apart from each other. He does not have sympathy for grades and dos not give study guide. If you are taking more than 12hrs AVOID HIM!
I would highly recommend Bodkins. Although the tests are difficult, his lectures are enjoyable. I wouldn't recommend skipping class, but you may possibly get away with passing his class without ever attending as long as you read from the textbook.
I would never take it again, hard questions and long exams and homework is a little bit hard. You need to go to class because there is a participation points and you wouldn't like to miss it, great lectures I enjoyed them so much and he is great speaker. Exams are hard and tricky Good luck, I would recommend that you don't wait till last minute :)
Tests are difficult, but I've learned a ton from Dr. Bodkin. He is an excellent lecturer, and I enjoy listening to him talk. Connect and Learnsmart assignments weekly, tests are difficult, but not impossible. Participation points taken daily. Incredible if you want to learn marketing, not so good if you're looking for an Easy A.
Tests are very tricky and most questions have similar answers that seem right. He covers so much info(6 chapters) for each test (4 tests), & it is so hard to remember every small detail for the nit picky tests. On top of a ton of studying, I wasted endless hours of my life doing the connect assignments and learned nothing from them. NEED the book.
Bodkin is a very confusing and hipocritical professor. He will say one thing that completely contradicts what he teaches you. Bodkin will also not accept any type of challenge to his "superior being" in class or he will try to call you out and make you look foolish. He is probably the most immature teacher I've had and has made me avoid marketing.
One of the my hardest classes I've taken at UNCC. He doesn't tell you what to study. He says everything is fair game. His tests are extremely tricky. Only a few people actually end up getting an A one his test while other's do bad. Take someone else if you can.
He's an OK professor. Test were tough but I always made a B with the curve he gives. Lots of connect assignments which suck and clicker questions for participation. Overall not a bad professor and I would take him again.
Dr. Bodkin's lectures are actually very interesting and he knows a lot about marketing. However, his mantra for test prep is "anything is fair game". What's covered in the lectures is on the tests, but the questions are conceptual and subjective. Multiple Choice A-E. I honestly felt like he intentionally wanted to trick people. Don't recommend
I took this class for an "outside concentration" course so I'll admit, I wasn't as into it as a business major might be. That being said, this professor was probably the least helpful I have yet to encounter. Yes, he curves his tests but his tests are built to fail. I'd advise avoiding him if you can; I will next semester when I retake it. -.-
If you take him you have to be very prepared to read. His lectures are practically examples with pictures so you cant really go back to the slides to study like other classes. However everything from the book is fair game. Each test is 5 chapters so it's a lot of material!! The only reason I got a B is because my final dropped my lowest test score.
Be prepared to read, he goes over almost 2 chapters a week and doesn't cover everything you could expect to see on tests in the lecture. Tests are often but he does add a curve, so the class average is typical for a business course in my experience. His lectures aren't bad but do prepare to be able to recall some out of book material he provides
He's a great lecturer, very nice/cares for his students and does well to put the topics in perspective. Unfortunately, there are in total 20 chapters (almost twice as much as my other classes) that he has to cover so he only goes through like 50% of it in his lectures and expects you to learn the rest from the book (NO BOOK No Chance at passing)
If you pay attention during class you'll do well, the lectures are long and the tests are tough. . He does clicker questions for attendance but you get full credit if you get it wrong, pay attention to them because they're like the test questions. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities so definitely do that because it saved my grade.
His tests are really hard and the power points he gives aren't too useful. The textbook is a must and should be used a lot to study for his tests. His lectures are interesting but they don't help with the tests much. Getting an A is not easy unless you really study the material.
Took him for marketing. All you have to do is READ THE BOOK. You can pay attention to the lectures and power points but reading the book will get you all the material you need. When you're reading the biggest stuff is definitions, there's no real hard concepts to understand. Read the chapters before the test about 3 times and you'll be good.
VERY lecture heavy. I took 3 hour night class, but it went by fast, as he is a great lecturer. No homework!, but his tests are HEAVY, usually 50 mult. choice, with some tricky choices. go to class. in class work counts! Book was never really used in class, but study from it, as test Q's do come from there. I really liked him
He's not the type to tell you whats going to be on the exams, and the questions are application questions which make it difficult. Taking the third exam, I read all 6 chapters and most of that material wasn't even on the test. If there is any other teacher to take for Marketing take it! He makes the class too difficult.
tests are hard to pass, no study guide. does give review questions about 5 of them and are nothing like the tests
He makes this class way harder than it needs to be. I am usually an A student but I haven't gotten above an 80 on any of his exams. I would highly recommend taking this class with a different professor. Also go to class because he randomly does in class activities for attendance points.
Fair teacher, no homework, exams require at least a solid day of studying, and while he says attendance isnt counted toward your grade, there are pop quizzes EVERY SINGLE CLASS. Literally. 3 points of your total grade. Per class.
for the class, print out the powerpoints and take notes in class. Read the book to better understand the material and study the powerpoints for tests. You need to go class because he does random in-class exercises that count for participation. 4 difficult tests. final exam is optional & replaces the lowest test grade.
I would recommend finding another professor. He makes the class way harder than it needs to be with tricky multiple choice questions.
Trust me don't do it. You can thank me later this is the worst test giver I've had in all of college and i am a Junior. Nothing he teaches is on the exams. If you take this class you will regret it. GPA is a 3.6 and his class was the only class I got a C in.
Do NOT take this professor... you should NOT be graded on if you can remember "rule 3 of said tactic" without being given the other rules.... yes that is what his tests are like. He thinks he is Gods gift to this university and has made MARKETING, yes marketing the hardest class i have ever taken. TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR... YOU ARE WELCOME
This class is way harder than it needs to be. You will think you understand the material until you get your test grade back. MEMORIZE THE TEXTBOOK. His lectures are pointless. Only made a B in the class because I took the optional CUMULATIVE final.
I ended up withdrawing from this course today because of this man. I am a marketing major I received a 62% on the last exam we had WITH a curve. This professor does not care how well his students do in fact he wants them to fail. He makes the exams so tricky that you leave thinking you did fine but then you end up failing. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Marketing Concepts is an information overload course. Bodkin expects you to know the material prior to class. His lectures are very rushed and not in depth. Read the book, take notes, show up to class. Grades come from exams (4) and daily attendance.
Unnecessarily difficult exams that may contain anything from the book. Power points provided in class have very little information on them and are no help at all for studying for the exams. BUY the book and get used to reading full chapters if you want anything over a C. If you are in search of an easy A, AVOID this professor.
If you're stuck with this prof , attend every single class but bring your book and read the entire time. His slides and lectures are pointless. Memorize the book word for word and maybe you'll get a C. I AM AN A/B STUDENT! But now i have to look forward to my first D thanks to this NON teacher. Who hires these teachers?
This professor requires a lot for an intro marketing class. He gives exams every few weeks and covers a lot of material within that amount of time. His lectures cover a chapter a day and he gives easy participation grades at the end of class. Exams are pretty difficult and you have to read the textbook to pass them.
This is an introduction into Marketing class, and I did enjoy Professor Bodkin's lectures. However, each exam covers 5 chapters of the book, which was overwhelming. You HAVE to read the book. It is the only way to do well on the exams, because he makes them very tricky.
I was really expecting to love this class. Man was I wrong. You would expect the lectures to go with the test, but that is not the case. Unfortunately I learned the hard way by the end of the semester and now I am fighting my way to a C. He is a really nice guy and he knows what he talking about. He just needs to slow down a bit and go by the book.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. His mediocre powerpoints are useless and are not even related to his tests. You HAVE to read the textbook and practically memorize every word. Each exam consists of 5-6 chapters which is overwhelming. Tests are multiple choice, but each answer is so similar it is difficult to chose the right one. He's just looking to fail students
Show up to class to get participation points, they make a difference. The material isnt hard but there is a lot of it. Be prepared to read, he covers 22 chapters. He chooses details from the textbook to put on the exam- read each chapter thoroughly. Lectures are enjoyable. He has an interesting personality. Optional final. He really likes cookies.
4 exams, optional final IF the overall class average sucks. Yeah, it wasn't optional at first. Like everybody has mentioned, the class is harder than what it should be. Don't bother with the ppts, just read the textbook and memorize EVERYTHING cause he uses detailed questions like "What's the third step of this?" Attendance is MANDATORY. Goodluck!
Im shocked he has such a high score, honestly. Test score averages were pitiful. He makes the class incredibly hard for what it is. Dont take him if you care about your GPA. Whelan is 500% better.
He's the kind of guy that makes a significantly weighted online quiz due at 5:30 PM and not midnight. Tests are confusing (no clear answer, need exact textbook definitions)
When I met this man, I was like "Ok cool guy, easy class, I will get an A". Jump to the end of the semester and my grade is hanging on a noose and ready to fail. His tests are brutal and are not related to anything in class or powerpoints. Random pop quizzes that are difficult as well. Do not take this class unless it's required.
One of the worst professors I've had at UNCC. As other people have stated, his tests are not related to the material that is covered in class. Class is basically just him trying to confuse you. Pop quizzes are given for attendance (because there is no reason to go to class). I'm sure he's nice and all, but I hated him as a professor.
POP QUIZZES!!!!!
Avoid at all costs!
Tests are not on the material he teaches in class, but almost entirely from the book, which you need to read and digest ever tiny detail, because he'll make sure he picks out the smallest phrase to put onto the test. Also, he covers way too many chapters per test, making studying for them a gigantic pain. This should be an easy class. Avoid.
Not clear what to study for tests. Spends a lot of time in class on one thing and the tests are all about minute details. Gotta read the book and study vocab. Pop quizzes were rather tricky. Feels like he wants the best for students, just makes it really difficult to get there
Most challenging class I had this past semester. However, if you work hard, a good grade is achievable. He takes attendance each week, and also gives you points for in-class assignments. Get the textbook, fully read the chapters covered in each respective exam, and take notes from the book. Good stories and discussion every lecture is a plus.
