Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you go to class he will give extra points. All you have is 3 tests (no cumulative final) and one essay of your choice over a reading. I overall enjoyed this class!

Test questions are primarily from lecture so GO TO CLASS, some vocab from the textbook (textbook really only used for vocab), and some from a book assigned each unit. Lectures can be slow but he makes the content interesting.

The lectures were so boring, mainly because I hate history. 3 tests and 1 extra-credit essay that is graded very harshly so do not bother with it. The essay does not hurt you so try if you want. Exam material is all in the lectures so take good notes and do not wait last minute to do them. All I gotta say is, you want a "buddy" in this class.

He's a good professor. Class was fully online and asynchronous. Tests based mostly off lectures and a small portion of key terms from textbook. You have to watch the lectures and takes notes to pass because the only grades in the class are 3 tests. No homework or quizzes. Lectures are long and boring. Not too bad, I would take him again.

3 Tests and one paper. Tests are extremely specific, especially with the true false section. If you do bad on one test, you have no opportunity to bring your grade up. Paper was mandatory for my semester and was graded harshly. Great professor, but this class was way harder than it needed to be. Look for another prof or take at community college.

Dr. Brooks does give fairly decent lectures. However, if you aren't accustomed to heavy note-taking and tests that are VERY detail-specific, I would by no means recommend his course. This class has been much more challenging than I had anticipated. Each exam (excluding the final) was online, timed, and went by VERY fast.

Brooks is a nice professor and encourages students to ask questions. He's not a bad lecturer and likes to focus on the big topics. He has 3 tests and 1 essay. The essay is 4 pages over one of the 3 books assigned. His exams were all MC with lots of T/F, which was pretty tricky. If you take good notes and watch all the lectures, you should do fine.

so dr. brooks knows what he is talking about, however the grading system in this class is terrible. there's only four assingments, meaning each is worth 25% of your FINAL grade. he seems like a nice guy, but his tests are hard (i consistently got in the 70s) and he grades the paper hard too. just average, i might take someone else if i could.

Brooks lecture are interesting but if you dont take detailed nots you will not do good on the exam. 70% of the test questions come from the lectures and you have 3 books to choose from to write a 4 page paper on that is graded ridiculously hard. And he lets his TAs do most of the grading and the TAs where very hard graders. Dont take this class.

There are four grades, 3 exams 1 essay, and tests are based on around 20% textbooks and 80% lectures. One thing of note is the attendance policy. 2 or fewer absences give you a 3 point boost (87 to 90, 77 to 80) If you have more than 3 absences, your grade will drop a full letter grade. If you're an auditory listener definitely take him.

Although I liked Dr. Brooks in order to make a good grade you had to work for it. You must attend lectures and take good notes in order to pass, as that makes up all the exams. However, his lectures were pretty interesting coming from a non- history oriented person. There is one mandatory paper and I would recommend doing the first one and not wait

This is upsetting because I was encouraged to self report to the honor office due to a GroupMe chat I was in. Essentially, after being promised I wouldnt drop a letter grade, I did in fact drop.

His lectures were incredibly entertaining and he conveyed each lecture as a story. He's clearly knowledgeable on all aspects of history and spurs discussion amongst students on rather controversial topics. However, he does it courteously, civilly, and informatively, fostering a learning environment. 2 tests and an 8-10 page paper. Focus on lectures

Brooks was a great storyteller, but taking notes was difficult because the material is just verbal lecture. The 8-10 page essay was due a week before the midterm and these accounted for 2/3 of your grade. There was no canvas. Exams are short ID/written. Decent amount of reading, must be evident in your written work. He's willing to help if you ask.
