More than willing to help anyone who is struggling in his class. He is extremely nice. His tests aren't difficult, but always expect to miss a thing or two on the test that you hadn't anticipated.
A little odd but in a good way. Makes math easy and almost fun. One of the best of any department.
Very accessible... offered help when needed.
Excellent teacher - we are lucky to have him! Very funny and extra, extra helpful. Great guy!
Great teacher, funny guy. Very very understandable and helpfull. Go to his classes it's worth it.
Also fun... he tells jokes during our breaks so we are stimulated to learn again.
Dr. Burnap is one of the three American male teachers that I have had throughout my 3 years at UNCC and that is one thing to be grateful for. He is very helpful if you go to his office. He tries his best to make you understand the course material.
Great guy. Very nice and helpfull teacher. I liked coming to his classes, he made it fun(a lot of jokes) and so clear. Just take him and you will see that you will love him.
Best math teacher I have ever had, and the first American one I've had at UNCC. Very nice guy who likes to tell jokes during breaks to break up the quote unquote "math monotony". Also very willing to help anyone who is struggling and who has que
Great teacher. Go to class and you will definitely get a b
Easy class if you go; graded homeworks help balance out grades. Quizzes and test are explained prior to testing (serious gimme questions). Overall funny guy, but his barney voice will put you to sleep; rest up.
He's REALLY good at making hard stuff seem easy. Great guy..lots of jokes..makes class fun..MEGA helpful. I wouldn't miss class though. You need to hear him explain stuff. He is the best math teacher I have ever had at UNCC. Actually, ever. lol. Take him!
Very funny guy, great teacher and is always willing to help.
Best guy for Calc. Very helpful and friendly. Door is always open and he is willing to work with you on stuff. Has a Harvard PhD, so he really knows his stuff. Best guy for the job.
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR!! He loves to say "go bananas"!! Very cute guy and explains material wonderfully!! You can actually understand his english too unlike all the other math professors! Very helpful and easy!!
he is the sweetest guy in the world!!! he has the cutest stories and loves to say "gung ho" he wants his students to do well so hes always there to help!! take him!!
The best calc teacher. Explains each section very well and keeps the class very interesting and fun to learn in.
very easy
Yup!!!! he is a great teacher you could have for calc II.. you should take him... he is very helpful and if u do the homework then you will make a A or B on the test... so take him... no one is better..
A cool old math guy with a matching sense of humor.
Great Professor. Very concerned with making sure students understand each section. Very approachable and very willing to help.
very funny, very good at simplifying hard problems
Awesome professor!!! so funny... do his homework and you will do good on his test...
Awesomely funny teacher! Don't be afraid to ask a question during class or point out the rare mistake, He welcome's this! One of the best math teachers I've had.
The man speaks english...what more do you need to know!
Great Professor, extremely helpful. Really likes helping people & answering their questions. Has some really funny jokes, that helps to make class lighter. Highly recommend.
This one of the best teacher I have ever had for math. He speaks English, and is able to explain things very through so that you understand.Do homework and you will get an A. GRRRREAATT Professor!!!!!!
he's one of the sweetest professors and human beings I have encountered at the school. His jokes are cute too..lol Eager and willing to help.
Professor Burnap is the best and my most favorite of all the professors i've had in the last year and a half. Before this class calculus was extremely difficult for me, but he made it so easy for me. He is great, and is also very funny.
He is a great calc teacher. he knows his stuff. His jokes are really funny. tests are easy if you study for them. i would recomend him because he is so nice and goes out of his way to help. he also knows peeps by name. he is good.
The best Calculus teacher at UNCC. HE SPEAKS ENGLISH! Great in class attitude, even better one on one. Always takes time to reteach concepts in class w/e necessary. If myou have to take Calc, take it with Burnap
took for bus calc, i hate math but he is a very good teacher, do the homework and you will make a B if you are not good at math. Tests are straight from the homework
Great teacher very helpful. Don't take any other teacher than him
Sweet guy..tells "hilariously funny and clean jokes" everyday. Only downside: tests are A LOT HARDER than reviews..thats the only thing that'll screw ya over...
Awesome teacher, so helpful and explains every little thing so you can't possibly be confused. Definitely take him, this was the only class the whole semester that i looked forward to.
Great teacher very helpful. only problem is he words questions funny but other than that good teacher. I HATE math but am doing good in his class. Also he is AMERICAN and that helps (no accent). Take him if you can.
Great professor, and I would definitely suggest him to anybody taking this course. He's probably the best math professor at UNCC. Do yourself a favor and sign up for him.
Good teacher, dedicated. Great jokes and i agree that the tests are a lot more difficult than the reviews are. Otherwise, an okay teacher. You could do worse.
Probably the best math professor at UNCC. He is great at explaining problems and making it very clear for students to understand. His exams are mediocre but study and you'll do just fine. Overall this is an easy class and If you like jokes this is the class to be in.
It is not as easy as what everybody makes it out to be. Just come to class and try to do to the homework.
He is AMERICAN and knows how to teach calculus if you do not know the material. If you have to take calculus take Dr. Burnap.
Not the best teacher, but not the worst either. At least he can speak english! If you can, take Funderburk instead. I am a very weak math student so I may have been doomed to begin with, but I did very poorly in this class. If you are not good in math... I don't know what to tell you. I busted my butt and still had trouble. Do the homework!!
Dr. Burnap is a very thorough teacher. Math has never been my strong point, but his teaching style made calculus a little bit easier to understand. He has a fun personality, and always adds jokes during class. Excellent teacher.
Very organized, very clear in his explanations. Recommended.
GREAT TEACHER! I hate calculus but he made it interesting. Thanks!
Of course Calc isn't an easy class, but Dr. Burnap makes it a lot easier to learn than it has to be. If you show up to class, do the (unrequired) homework, and study before tests (he gives you a study guide), you'll do fine. Its not gonna be a breeze, but definitely the best math professor you'll find at UNCC.
Good professor, really knows his stuff. This is a tough course, but he tried to limit the difficulty as much as possible. Very clear speaker. Moves a little fast, but he knows when to slow down. Tests are very fair and easy to study for. Would definitely take one of his courses again.
he is the best math teacher, he always clear and very much helpfull, he help every student to get A in his class, just do home work and the problems in class and will get A so easy, and he is a fuuny guy
Excellent professor! His notes are very through, you never have to look at the textbook except when looking up homework problems. The class sessions are fun. Strongly recommended especially for higher level classes.
most awesome teacher ive ever had. made calculus very very easy. teaches like a kindergarden teacher. tells jokes all the time and chuckles when he thinks hes funny.not that much homeowork but does have weekley turn in work. (very helpful though) i highly recomend him to anyone that has a hard time in math.
He doesnt take attendance, you have optional homework that if you do it, you'll do well. He gives out graded hw once a week which is just like what he does in class. He goes over all hw and tests. He is SUPER thurough...and he is a fun teacher. He would stop in the middle of class to tell jokes for 5 minutes for a "break". Get him if you can.
the BEST BEST BEST math teacher i have ever met!
MATH 3141 is perhaps the most difficult class I have had so far, but Dr. Burnap will get you through, I have attended 2 of his classes so far, he is the best!
Dr. Burnap is simply the best. This class is a challenge and was the first math class that truly challenged me. He is very willing to help and hilarious. I'm glad he is teaching 3142 because anyone else would probably fail more people. Take him for this class, and any other class he teaches, he's the best.
Best and funniest math teacher ever. Very helpful, going step by step explaining it as he goes. He sends emails to keep people who don't go to class updated. A few graded homeworks, and optional homeworks that will help you do well on the tests. Tests are almost identical to homework problems. He also holds many review sessions to help people.
excellent teacher of calculus
I passed! This guy is humane and funny. Recommended for the bad math student who really tries but who has difficulties.
BEST MATH TEACHER EVER! He is very funny and works slow so all people can understand. He really cares if you understand. get him for all math classes.
if you arent good with math, take him. he teaches very well and makes it so much easier than calculus seems. he doesnt rush things and he takes breaks in the middle of class to tell jokes. he's a lot of fun and a verrrrry nice guy.
THE BESTTTTT PROFESSOR FOR MATH EVER~~~~
Go to class, that is the only way you will do well. He is a good prof., and is willing to help. Assigns take home homework (10+) and gives 4 exams including a final.
Good teacher eplains difficult material well. kinda goofy
If you have to take calc take him
I finally passed because of Dr. Burnap! He explains the material well and doesn't teach directly out of the textbook. I highly recommend him.
If you have to take Calc...Take it with Burnap. Some required hw and webwork once a week.
Do the hw and go to class, easy A. Best calc teacher in school.
By far the BEST math teacher I have ever taken! He is sweet, funny, and very helpful! TAKE HIM
He is a great teacher! Explains things very well and tell jokes in class. Highly recommend him!
Good teacher that explains calculus in an amusing way and likes to tell jokes. I took calc in high school but this class was much easier. Keep up with the work and it'll be an easy A!
I took both classes. Math comes easy for me, so I don't really know if he is difficult or not. Tells some funny stories and keeps class moving along.Recommended if you must take calculus.
Burnap is a really cool guy with a good sense of humor. If you meet with him in private he will explain everything you need. Unfortunately his lecturing turns out to be completely confusing for those non-math majors out there. It's hard to find the time to meet privately with so many other classes to get things cleared up. Just a very hard class.
A very nice professor who explains the materials in a very clear way. He goes over the problems step by step. He gives a practice exam before every exam and the exams are the same with a slight difference. Has a great sense of hummer. if you are not a math guy he will help you a lot to understand the material. take him, very recommended
BEST MATH PROFESSOR AT UNCC, very funny, very helpful. I have taken calculus before, but the professor wouldn't help me or explain things, he just told me I should already know it. Professor Burnap was always there to answer any questions, and I didn't take pre-calc so he had to help me alot : ) GREAT PROFESSOR!!!
Calc II is just hard for those of us that are not mathmatically inclined. But Dr. Burnap is an amazing professor. Hes super smart but really goofy at the same time and he explains things in a way that are really comprehensable. If you have the chance to take him, I would recomend it. Hes the best math professor ive ever had.
Great professor, Very Helpful and motivational. Keeps things interesting. Made Calc 2 seem like it was nothing to it. Highly recommend him.
Love this professor. Such a nice person who just really wants to make sure everyone does well. He has a great sense of humor which really helps. TAKE HIM!!!
FANTASTIC!!! BEST TEACHER EVER! he makes everything simple to understand and helps all he can. hes a great professor. best ive ever had. actually really enjoyed the class. TAKE HIM!!!
This class is not difficult if do both graded paper homework and web-work. However the man is simply ANNOYING. HE IS NOT FUNNY OR INTERESTING. He is just an awkward professor with an extremely flaky personality and he teaches the class like everyone is handicapped. Not to be mean. It only matters if you are interested in going to class.
The person below me is definitely hating. He tells funny jokes during class to help keep us alive. He really cares about his students. He wants everyone to get an a. Hes ALWAYS offering help. He explains things so throughly in class. Do the graded homework, come to class, and you'll be fine. I've never made an a in math in my life until burnap.
I didn't do great in his class, but he is a great teacher. Had I gone for help before the middle of the semester I would have had a B. He's funny, helpful and really clear with his explanations.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! He will go above and beyond to help you! He is really entertaining and has some corny jokes to help break up the class. I can't say enough good things about him- TAKE HIM!
I got a bad grade in the class, but can still recommend him. He was there to help whenever I was actually motivated to ask. He always responded quickly to emails. He is always open to questions in class, and available for one on one help.
Easiest math professor I've ever had; the funniest one too. He explains everything in detail. I was .5 points away from making the highest grade on the final in class, and this is coming from someone who made a B in high school Calc. I was able to finish his webwork IN CLASS while he's teaching AND I never do the practice material (yet I made an A)
This class is easy and soo funny. He tells jokes every class and is down to earth. He teaches you so you know the material the first time. The homework are on webwork but he teaches you well so you wont have to dislike webwork. He is very helpful in class an in his office. Great class all TESt are short an easy. Take this class.
Excellent teacher. His silly jokes and anecdotes make it a joy to go to class every day. He's very approachable too, if you need extra help he is more than willing to help via office hours, and responds to e-mails promptly.
I took Calc in high school, so I guess that makes this a little biased. He's a fun teacher though, bends over backwards to help his students, and it's not hard at all. I didn't buy the book and made an A, book problems are ungraded. Do the 3 or 4 weekly problems and webwork (usually picks some for the tests),and take notes. Easy class.
Amazing teacher. Best math professor I've had in my student career. He almost makes me want to minor in math just so I can take one of his classes again! Very helpful, and funny guy. Tells cute jokes/stories during class to break the monotony. If you do the homework and study your notes, you'll do fine on the tests.
Excellent Instructor. I didnt pass, but he is a great teacher. Excellent at explaining. Patient. Tells silly jokes to keep class lively.
Great professor. He was very kind and helpful!
Reasonable teacher, weekly homework assignment and then a webwork assignment. Gives non-mandatory homework to practice problems you may have. 3 tests I beleive and then the final. Tests are short, bout 9-10 questions with a few parts to each.
The BEST Mathematics teacher at UNCC! He is very thorough with his notes and provides a lot of examples for a good study method! Tests match his notes, just study! Webwork is short each week and very helpful, good way to boost your grade! Highly recommend this teacher...I received an A!
Very easy and clear. Currently my grade is near 100. Pretty much the opposite of Dr. Grigoriev who is completely incomprehensible and gives extremely hard questions. BTW I failed Grigoriev's MATH 2164.
Great professor. Makes Calculus bearable and is willing to answer any and all questions. It's not an easy course but you can very easily make an A. If you're reading this, take him!!
Easy and straightforward. Make sure you understand homework problems. He gives many curves - (1) some exams are graded out of 90, (2) the lowest homework grade is dropped, (3) the preliminary cutoff grades are 87 for A, 77 for B, 67 for C, etc.
I am horrible at calc but Dr. Burnap has helped me a lot. I am still struggling but if I had any other professor, I would be a lot worse off. If you are terrible at calc, take him. He puts in the time to help those who need it and clearly cares about his students.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but it would be wise to go if you're bad at math. Very cool & helpful teacher! He has reviews before every test. If you failed, it's because you didn't try.
Dr. Burnap is a great teacher. Not only does he make Calc easy but he makes learning it fun. He's really funny and every class takes a break and tells the class a joke. He generally cares what you make and is available whenever. He has a practice test available for every test and also has an extra study time before the test for anyone that needs it
Awesome personality, very knowledgable, quick pace but makes every effort to give extra help
Great! He makes jokes through out class which makes it fun. Make sure you come to class. If you go and listen and write don't all the notes then you should do fine. The majority of the graded homework and test questions come straight from the notes, just rearranged a bit. Never used the book.
Dr. Burnap was a good teacher, who would give us a 5 minute break each class by telling jokes. Attendance is not mandatory, but it is crucial to how well you do in his class. Always copy his notes bc it is what helps you with weekly homework/webwork. Just STUDY and you will do fine! I went from a D and ended up with a B!
After struggling with Calculus in high school, I was worried coming into this class, but Dr. Burnap is AMAZING! He is very clear in his examples, and the homework is exactly like examples he gives in the notes. Before tests he gives a optional review session and a review sheet with the worked out answers. If you do the review you will be prepared.
I loved Dr. Burnap! He keeps class interesting with jokes and always has his students' interest in mind. He has taught a while so he knows what teaching methods work well. The book homework is not graded but recommend. Attendance is not mandatory. He gives graded paper homework with 3 problems once a week and we have webwork once a week. TAKE HIM
GREAT!! kept class interesting and fun. Would stop in the middle of class every day and tell jokes. He really wants to see you do well and he is so sweet!! Highly recommend him!
He is amazing! I had issues in Pre-Cal in high school, but he made this class really easy. The webwork and paper homework questions are similar to actual test questions. The book homework isn't mandatory, but it helps to do it. He gave us breaks during class where he/someone else could tell a joke. He is super nice, so take him for Math 1120.
Burnap was a great teacher! Exams are non-multiple choice but very straight forward and very similar to the practice exams. With that being said, DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS! As mentioned above, if you do those, you're more than prepared for the exams. Very helpful, very nice, very funny. Overall, he is the best teacher available for Math 1120!
Great professor, I had a fun time in his class. He likes to crack jokes a lot of the time and tries to get to know students on a first-name basis. Tests were similar to homework, and he gave us studyguides for exams. I feel like he doesn't explain some of the concepts too well though, and he tends to gloss over harder stuff unless you ask him.
Ok. Mr.Burnap is simply my greatest proffessor at UNCC!
I LOVED THIS CLASS!!! Everything was explained and if you have a question he will answer it!!! And his jokes are kinda funny...take this CLASS!!!
He is definitely the best choice for Calculus I. If you need help, he will go over it step by step. His jokes are so corny but they keep you awake in a boring subject. He doesn't have Harvard graduate demeanor you'd expect. Real nice guy. Just do the webwork and show up for class. Do the written homework if you're confused.
Dr. Burnap is an amazing professor. If you actually want to learn and not just take an easy professor to just past the class...Dr. Burnap is the professor to take. He is very helpful in and out of class. He does move a little fast; however, if you ask him to slow down, he will. Loved this class and it is most def an easy A!
Professor Burnap is great to take for calculus! He goes through everything step by step and is extremely clear about what's going to be on an exam. He does not grade exams harshly at all.
Dr. Burnap is far and away the best math teacher/professor I have ever had. He definitely has a gift for teaching. I've attempted Calculus in previous semesters, and not only did I get an A this time, I actually understood the material! I highly suggest Dr. Burnap!!
If your not good at math or haven't taken it in a while take this teacher. Very nice man jokes around but means business. Just pay attention in class and do all examples test are same problems and like study guide. He will get you through this class you just have to try
Read the book. Do all the homework. You will do well. Burnap rules.
Super great professor, do the study guides and you will be prepared for his exams. One of the best math teachers I've ever had, and would recommend him to anyone.
Calc 2 with Burnap was very simple over the summer. Lecture covered every topic with detail. Homework problems on WebWork were hard sometimes, but he was available to help with office hours. Tests always tested topics on an easier scale as opposed to the WebWork. Textbook not necessary. Easy A and great teacher.
Dr. Burnap is by far one of the best teachers I have had at UNCC so far. He's so enthusiastic about Calculus and it is very apparent that he truly loves his job. Go to every class and it will be an easy A. I wouldn't recommend getting the textbook, I didn't even open mine once. TAKE HIM!
Dr. Burnap explained the material really well. He's very precise and does a lot of practice problems. He even offers review before tests outside of class. Attendance is not mandatory but going will help you get an easy A. I didn't buy the text book and passed the class with an A. Take him!
Dr. Burnap is a great professor! Attendance was not mandatory, but going to every class did help me a lot. He had online and written homework, which were not too difficult and if you did them, helped your grade. The 3 tests weren't terrible, and the final exam was very similar to past tests. He wants all his students to pass and wants to help!
He is a funny guy that really cares for his students. I'm not great at math so I thought his tests were somewhat hard (definitely since they're not multiple choice). However, just do the hw, webwork, study guides, go to class, and you should be fine. Every class he stops lectures to tell jokes and stories in order for his students to have a break
Burnap is the best teacher I've ever had! he's funny and really inspiring. I will most likely get an A and i used to be horrible at math!He did his doctorate at harvard and it really shows! he is like einstein with a personality. there are 3 tests and a final. coming to class in essential to passing. take if you want to learn ALOT and get an A.
Dr. Burnap was a great professor. Calculus is a really hard subject(especially for not being good at math) but he tries to work with you so you can be successful. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't go you probably won't pass. Three tests and a final. Tests are very similar to study guides, but still pretty tough. Overall nice guy!
Dr. Burnap is an amazing professor. Everything he teaches is understandable and he always does a good joke here and there. Tests are pretty good, however, for each test including the final he always posts a practice test. Do it and study it and you'll pass with an A or B. I passed this class with an A thanks to those practice tests. Good luck! :)
His lectures are pretty straight forward. He usually starts by showing examples while explaining what he's doing. On the first test I made a 54. The second test I managed to get a 67. I went and spoke with him and he worked w me. I buckled down and made a 98 on the 3rd test. I finished with a 78.9 and he gave me a B.
LOVED him!!! He super helpful if you go to class on a regular basis and he gets to know you. Offered extra study sessions the week before tests and was always willing to see you outside of class. Made a tough subject do-able for this math-challenged girl! Online homework was HARD, but helped prepare for tests. Weekly in-class homework, too.
Best math professor I have ever had. He usually stops for five minutes in middle of class to tell a joke or a story. Go to class regularly even though it is not mandatory. He will help you and work with you if you ask for it. I went into Calc super scared but made an A. There are 3 tests and a final.
An amazing man and an amazing professor. Took MATH 3141 with Dr. Burnap and that was one of my best experiences at the University. Dr. Burnap always came prepared. The material was challenging, but Dr. Burnap makes it interesting and fun. He has a fun and unique personality. Also, he is a very smart and respected professional. Highly recommend.
This guy is a really good teacher. The class I had was Linear Algebra and it was probably one of the most difficult classes I've taken. It's not because he made it difficult, it's just because it's a difficult subject. Attend every class, ask questions, and don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. VERY hard class but he's a good teacher.
He is one of the few professors at UNCC who are truly meant to teach. He is required to go very fast through the material so if you are horrible at math then he won't be able to save you. However, he is very clear and really does care about helping you. Do the homework and study after every class and you will pass.
I liked Burnap. The class is fast paced but he is very helpful if you ask questions. Learn and stay on top of the material and don't wait until last minute. The tests are average. Usually two versions, all with different formulas. Some versions are easier than others. You have to work for a good grade in this class
Best calc teacher by far. Very clear, does a lot of examples. Tests arnt really that bad, just do the homework and the review and you should be good. Calc deffs wasn't as hard as I was expecting it to be. He's super cute tho, he stops class to give breaks and tell jokes. Gets tests and homework back to u quick. Really enjoyed he's teaching style.
Calc was an extremely hard subject for me which is why I made the C. This was with spending entire days in the library, using all tutoring resources including paid tutoring, and meeting with Burnap multiple times. If you feel like calc won't be a breeze for you I highly suggest using his office hours and show your effort, he will help you out.
Awesome guy, even better professor
You never get bored in this class. He keeps the class entertained as well as being pretty good at explaining things. He also goes over things again if you ask. He'll also go through things that you don't understand. Tests aren't that hard. Just study and you'll be fine.
Teaches the material well but tests are graded pretty strictly ,so is homework. Webwork and Homework are worth 15 percent , tests 55 % and final 30&. Attendance isnt mandatory but its needed to find out what hes doing. Hard part comes in where he gives a pretest but you dont know which problems to practice for. Alot of material to study.
I hate math class so I was dreading taking calculus but he explained everything very clearly and was the best professor for math that I've ever had. Very clear and even stops the lecture halfway to tell corny jokes and stories. Homework and tests are graded hard but its based upon your work too if you get the answer wrong. Rounds final grades too.
Great guy , grades tests kind of tough but he wont trick you on exams. Calculus isnt an easy class unless you really practice and spend alot of time. Do graded homework and webwork as they boost your grade a bit and test questions are literally stolen from homework. Overall, good prof but hard class. Not his fault though. He does his best to help.
Best math professor ever. I hate maths still understood everything he taught in class. Very clear and always ready to help
Dr. Burnap is an amazing professor. I took him over summer and I was able to understand the material in class itself. He would explain well when you have questions. He goes over the HW as well as the test. And he is always there to help you out.
Mr Burnap is a good man , he does teach everything pretty well. The problem is that the tests are kinda tough. Their are no freebies in this class, no dropped tests or extra credit. He will always be there to help you. Join his class if your kinda good at math. Not an easy class , but he is there to help.
Great professor. Homework are pretty much from notes but exams are extremely difficult. Wish he would have allowed open notes with so much materials to know. He is a tough grader, if you miss a negative sign or anything, that's 2 points off.
Took this class during the summer, general easy A/B if you actually pay attention and SHOW UP TO CLASS, if not then it can be very hard especially since its every day. Good luck!!
Took the class as a summer short session class. The instruction was sublime but wish I'd taken less concurrent courses.
Absolutely terrible class. All he does is talk never stops to ask if people have questions, gives 2 examples then moves onto the next topic without explanation. Had to use a withdrawal credit because it was incredibly hard. Doesn't teach you how to help yourself with a calculator either, non effectove teaching methods.
Burnap is the best math professor out there. He explains problems extremely thoroughly and is always willing to help. As a person who is usually terrible at math, I do pretty well in his class because of the good instruction. There is graded paper homework and webwork but both short. Tests are short & you will do well if you do the test review.
Love the "mental breaks" he does in class. Teaching method and way of explaining steps in his lessons are extremely helpful. I've taken calculus at another institution before and did horribly, because the professor was ill equip to help her students. Dr. Burnap is a very effective professor and I wish I could take him for the rest of my math minor.
Best Math professor Come to class everyday, do online and paper homework, and study for the test and you should pass the class! he will make you work for your final grade but he also knows when you're trying. Ask questions if needed, He is more than willing to help! AWESOME PROFESSOR!!!
Funny, sweet man. I'm decent at math and made a B. You really need to study the notes and do re-do the problems. Some of the test questions are exactly like notes but he adds something. I would recommend this professor. Homework and tests are only grades. Homework somewhat boosts grade.
Burnap is one of the best teachers I have ever had. However, his tests are very hard. They are all open ended questions and are much harder than webwork questions. He actually cares, and even gives you a break halfway through class because he knows you can't focus for an hour 15. really great guy but if you aren't' good at math like me it's tough.
Lectures can be boring at times but he takes a break midway for every class and tell students his life story or jokes. I don't consider his tests hard as long as you show up to class , pay attention, and do webwork. Math is not the type of subject that you can skip classes all the time and pass, it takes effort and practice to do well.
This man is a straight baller. I suck at math, always have always will. I made decent grades on the first 2 tests, and absolutely bombed the second two. I needed a c for my major and I was sure I was not going to get that. He gave me a slow kid curve at the end of the semester and passed me with a c though. He is super funny and nice too.
Dr. Burnap is an amazing professor. Paper homework and online homework. He teaches the material in a way that is very understanding to anyone. I have always been good in math but the way he teaches the material is very simplistic to anyone that is good and not good in math. He has mental breaks during class with funny stories or jokes.
If you have to take Modern Algebra, take it with Burnap. This man knows his stuff and can explain very complex subjects in simple ways that you will understand. However, as amazing of a teacher Burnap is, this class is absolutely brutal. On a scale of 1-10 difficulty the weekly homework assignments are a solid 9. Very hard class, awesome prof.
Most of his lecture time is spent teaching new topics. He explains them well and will go through more example problems if you ask. He always has a mental break in every class where he tells jokes or funny stories. There is paper and online homework but as long as you keep up with it youll be fine. Would highly recommend.
Made Calculus as easy as possible. Took AP calc in high school and this class is much easier. He also tries to make math as fun as possible.
Burnap is awesome! He is the cutest old guy and he is an awesome teacher. He really emphasizes that he is there to help and to stop him during class if you are lost. Very clear at explaining things and makes math as simple as possible. He responds fast to emails and gives mental breaks every class with jokes or a funny story.
I made a C because I suck at math, but he knows what he's teaching, and it is beneficial to go to ALL of his classes. If you skip you will not pass. Calc is a tough course already, so just go to class and do the homework. Also, do his practice test it is similar to the test. The test is NOT multiple choice. So you need to know what you're doing.
Great Teacher. This subject was hard and confusing but he was always available to answer questions.
Professor Burnap is a really smart guy. Hes very nice as well. The only reason I didnt give him a better rating is because he doesnt have set notes and examples for you to follow. He has an outline for himself and makes up problems on the go. The paper homework and webworks really helped.
Attendance isn't mandatory and he posts notes after class but it's better if you go to class. He does a lot of examples and likes question. He has mental breaks in class and loves jokes. He's a smart professor but he knows that. He has practice tests for you to study and gives out paper HW once a week and online hw as well. Just show up, take notes
Dr. Burnap is a chill professor. He lectures about the course material in a clear and defined way, that it is easy to learn. There are online and paper homeworks, each about once a week. Three tests, and a final. If you pay attention and do the HW, you'll be fine. He also takes a "mental break" halfway through the lecture to tell jokes.
I seriously loved professor B! He teaches calculus the easiest way possible and really cares about his students. Dont be afraid to attend his office hours if you need help. All of his study guides are like the test, especially the review for the final. Best advice is to go to all his office hours during finals week and go over the review with him.
Do. Not. Take. He uses chalkboard for everything, you grade is 90% based on tests, and his test have like 7 questions so if you miss one, youre already hurting. Worst math professor Ive had.
Nice guy but dont take him unless youre really good at Math. His tests are not multiple choice and he puts no more than 10 questions on a test. Its incredibly easy to fail them and its almost pointless to do the homework because it counts for very little of your grade.
He teaches the material in a very abstract way instead of being straightforward. Tests are 60% of your grade, then only puts 8-10 questions on tests. There's no multiple choice. Puts question marks on tests instead of corrections. Homework is only 10% in total. Lectures are not recorded and does not post notes online. Uses same wording as textbook.
Cool Guy. Takes breaks to tell stories. 4 Tests and Cumulative final. Test guides are online basically the test just with some extra problems. Form a study group and meet those in your class at the library it will help alot. His handwriting kind of sucks but its no big deal. Super nice guy.
Burnap is awesome! Teaches from a chalkboard and his handwriting can be scribbles sometimes, but he really does his best to teach the class as easy as possible. Homework almost every night but its the exact stuff he goes over in class. He understands students are busy and doesnt try to make their lives harder.
Dr. B is a pretty good teacher, he can go fast sometimes but he will always stop or slow down for questions. Practice tests are very similar to the tests he gives. Don't bother buying the textbook, I never used it once. He also does not take attendance and posts notes on Canvas. He can be very boring but at least he doesn't have an accent.
Professor Burnap is a cool dude, and you can tell that he really cares about his students. The only drawback is that the material he puts on the test sometimes don't match the study guide or is more difficult than what was on the study guide. Attendance isn't mandatory so that's a plus, but if you aren't good at math, definitely got to class.
I don't normally leave reviews about professors but Dr. Burnap is amazing. If you are struggling with math like I am, take him!! He makes calculus super easy to understand. You can clearly tell that he cares about his students and is always there to help if you need it. Seriously he makes math so easy, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't pass.
Great teacher. I thought was very clear and basic in his explanations. Sit in the front if you can, and be prepared to follow along closely as he moves quickly. If you come prepared it will be a great class. I definitely had to do a lot of studying to understand the concepts and in the end, it paid off versus some of my fellow student's grades.
In spite of the fact that he frequently drops his chalk, he does quite a good job explaining complex subjects in a clear manner. He made calculus semi enjoyable. Maybe not semi enjoyable, but not miserable. And that's a tall order, from my point of view.
He makes things harder than what it has to be. I learned more from YouTube than him. I have a good grade in his class because Im pretty good in math, but If you struggle with math dont take him.
I'm not great at math and personally it was hard to follow Dr. Burnap in class. His handwriting can be hard to read at times. Not really a fan of his teaching style and often things worked on in class do not match up with webwork assignments, quizzes, and tests. If you're good at math this may not bother you, or be prepared to learn on your own.
he was nice but I do not learn well with his teaching style. he just gets out a blank piece of paper and starts doing problems, which there was a packet or something to go through with him. homework isn't long but you only get one opportunity and only a few q's. tests are manageable but randomly on the final he wanted cameras on for some reason.
Dr B is very nice and is a sweet man, however all of his assignments have very few questions which kinda sucks. The small class assignments are 3 or 4 questions and the tests are only 9 11 questions. So your grade can drop very fast. I am really good at math and almost got a B because the short assignments. He does drop a few things at the end tho.
Never showed up to class and I passed.
He is the most amazing teacher Ive ever had. He doesnt just start out with calc but he helps you understand the algebra first. Makes learning super easy and fun. Does not use Hawkes learning like other professors. He makes it easy for you to actually learn and get a good grade in this class.
Burnap can't see very well, which isn't his fault, but it means his handwriting is almost impossible to read. The class is very complex anyway, so you want as much clarity as possible. His lectures aren't bad, but the subject matter can be dry. The tests are very hard (class avg was like a 60), and there's a lot of homework to get through each week
Professor Burnap is absolutely amazing, the best math teacher I've had in years. He goes over every little thing so carefully and makes sure you understand every concept, his tests and quizzes are easy as long as you understand what he's teaching you. He's really great at explaining
You will get a good grade in this class because of the teacher. Quizzes and homeworks are both short, easy, only one of each a week. The exams also short and simple. Clear grading and he even drops multiple of your lowest grades. No need to buy an expensive book or website. He is the best option to take if you need help in math and want an A!
Im taking this online, spring 2021. Best professor Ive had in a long time. Makes math so easy. I read through some of his ratings and some bad ones dont make sense to me. Everyone does great on the tests because theyre easy and you have an hour for only 10 questions. Im passing this class bc of the professor with an A and Im not a math person.
Very good Calc teacher. I am pretty good at math, and his classes were recorded, with optional attendance. Very good at explaining things, and very willing to answer questions. Homework was done on webwork, and 4 tests total plus the final exam. Very good professor, and definitely would take again.
dont need book. 5 total exams including final. four of the exams had between 9-11 q's. the final was 28 q's. Will only drop one exam from 1-4. (about 10 pts each q's, multiple-choice & fill-in) 25 hw quizzes on canvas between 3-5 q's. (10 pts each q's). Quizzes & exams are timed. Zoom calls MWF. Take tutoring if you're not good at calc. Alsowebwork
Burnap is a nice and funny guy, but the man does NOT really teach. He just does some examples, which don't match up with any of his homeworks. You WILL most likely need tutoring for this class. If you ask him to do another example of a question, a lot of times he will just say to look back in your notes or ask a fellow classmate. Tests count a lot.
Nice professor with good intentions but he just completes example problems in class, not very much explanation of processes. Lots of homework quizzes throughout. Only 4 exams and 1 final. Exams are usually only 10 questions. If you dont catch on to math quickly he might not be the professor for you
Professor Burnap is amazing! I'm not a math person, but he made this course extremely easy to understand. Although he uploads all the lectures online, nothing beats in-person lectures. He assigns practice problems that aren't graded, but they help dramatically in forming a comprehensive understanding of the material. I would 100% take him again!
I recommend Brittany Love for calc and stat, she is more passive aggressive but overall explains things more. Burnap is kind but gets flustered easily, doesn't answer questions or emails. 4 exams, each 25% of your grade, homework is required but not graded. Feedback could be better. Overall not bad but don't take early morning! *you will sleep*
He is a good professor, but his tests are weighed way too much. 4 midterms 50% of your grade plus a final worth 30%. The hw doesn't help you much. He has a study guide quite similar to the tests, but still, they can be challenging (at least for me). If you struggle in the class, go to the math learning center, they are amazing!
Dr. Burnap is a great professor who cares about his students. He explains well and is understanding, but modern algebra is the hardest math class I have taken aside from Topology. The best way to be successful in this class is do all hw assignments, all the extra problems, don't use Chegg, and go to his office hours. Don't skip class ever.
