THE MAN
Never fell asleep in this guys class his loud clothes dont let you,a decent guy
This man is EXCELLENT, insightful and entertaining. You will learn a ton!
I am awful at history so I didn't do too well....but this guy was funny as hell. He is always making jokes about himself and it was very entertaining. Really nice guy!
not a history major, but took him for a GER and learned a lot about not only history but life in general, very good professor with a great understanding of the world
He was the first prof. I had after a 12 year break from school, he made me want to continue with school! He is one of the best!
funny as hell, best comments do I like cake? then he looked at himself, and see the gods are angry at you said right after some thunder and lightning
You will have a hard time finding a more down to earth, funny, smart professor
Awesome teacher! Wasn't the kind to let you slack off, and actually made me WANT to learn. Reminds me of why I want to become a teacher: To be more like him

Honestly THE funniest teacher I hav ever had. Has a great sense of humor & really knows what he is talking about.
really funny but teaches a horrible class
His class was very good and easy to follow. He is very entertaining and funny with all his lectures. Definitly take his classes!
He's ok, his class is very boring but he gives study guides for every test.
likes to make you think
A great man. He makes things easy to follow and fun to learn. Awesome.
Great guy, knows A LOT. hard tests, but the study guide and his lectures make it easy. Want to learn and get a laugh while doing it? Take anything with Cox. NOTE: Don't wear North Carolina blue.
Very nice, very funny, reminds me of Anthony Hopkins.
Very humerous teacher. He give an outline for each test and he is really funny. He makes fun of himself during class. Has a great sense of humor and his bday is on Halloween. He also remembers you after class.
He's a great guy...looks exactly like Stewie (the baby from family guy). His tests are pretty difficult, but the study guides help. Do not sit in the back of class, he loves those kids especially! He is a great guy who loves to teach, take him!
teaches ok. not a nice man.
Excellent & fun teacher. Tough overall but especially for 1st semester freshmen. ADVICE: PARTICIPATE in class, organize study groups to pass his test. Get to know him. Helpful if you do the work. Take his class! Learn about life and history.
knows what he is talking about but is not clear at all and trys to hard to be funny..not an easy grader avoid if possible
Bends over backwards and all directions to help his students to achieve. Very helpful. Be nice to him, show respect, and study a little here and there on your notes and you will do well. I never opened my book and pulled a B+.
Tough grader, gives you many chances to improve grade. Funny guy, good lectures. I did minimal work and got a "B".
I enjoyed his class. He's very funny and made my first semester at BSC easier.
he's funny and is a really nice guy, but unless you're into the class.. it's really boring. he takes the class a little too seriously for a ger. he goes off on tangents, so it's hard to know what you need to write down. jokes around a lot, though.
Nice man but I don't like his teaching style. He is very picky when it comes to essays
He was a great professor. Made history enjoyable, was always willing to help, and would bend over backwards for any of his students.
He is really funny. his study guids help a lot. study everything on it and you'll do fine
WORST TEACHER EVER. Offers his students help and when approached says "look it up" (as if that was not tried first). Arrogant, cocky, plays favorites. Boring, jumps from topic to topic, rude. DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
hes hilarious! he makes the boring material interesting! I loved him and would take him again if i needed to take any other history GERs, but i don't so i am sad.....TAKE HIM!!!!!!!
How bout them "Terms of Trade"? Great guy. As long as you study you'll do fine. Very easy reading. Interesting class for the subject being taught
he is a funny cute man but he is so hard and really boring. every day i would promise myself id pay attention but just couldnt bring myself to listen after 5 minutes. once you become one of his favorites, the class might be more fun...i wouldnt know though.
He is a very nice teacher, but i dont reccomend taking his class at 8 in the morning. The tests arent as hard as they seem. he does do a lot of skipping around in his lectures, but all in all, hes a pretty good teacher.
Easy class, easy A but he does a lot of skipping around. Gives a study guide for every test. Not very helpful and the notes from class are impossible to follow because he jumps around. Not a great professor but an easy class
boring class and ok teacher but his tests are really easy if u study a little.
Good professor, if you can deal with his humor ie. "Thank you jesus" Does tend to jump around on subjects, but give many intersting facts. Not typical professor, but very affective, and easy A.
Pretty easy, but be warned he cares more for maintaining his petty beaurocracy than he does about learning.
he was really funny and very fair...he doesn't always follow his syllabi, but he is reasonable about it and he was pretty knowledgeable
he's awesome! you will like him.
US HISTORY CONST. - 1886 . He is your classic southerner almost, he is really witty and funny. Make sure you read the book because he only goes over key information that is a major event. He loves to tell jokes and have a good time, hates tardness and cellphones. AWeSOMENESS
Good guy, funny, very clear.... Take his class, he swears alot, it's very humorous....
funny guy, very nice, you have to read the book or else you wont know what he's talking about. take his class if you can!
he's a funny guy and all but he's not very helpful at ALL. i missed one class and failed a test because of it! i'm a dual enrollment student and if i don't find a way to pass i might not graduate from high school! he didn't even give a f**K and didn't give me any leway! I missed the class because my dad got diagnosed with CANCER.
he sux...bottom line.
very funny. He always gave a one page study guide for his tests. Mostly vocab words. Tests were multiple choice and a few compare/contrast. Final was not cumulative. Doesnt take attendance often
very funny, laid back, easy tests (mostly multiple choice), easy to get him off the subject and talking about something funny. lets class out early a lot. describes things well. he took attendence 3 times. this is my second semester taking him, class flys by. nice guy!
This professor is very affable and easy going. He knows the subject well and is willing to help you. He will scale tests if need be and is very flexible. I would recommend him to anyone needing to take a history class....this is one stress where you will learn without being stressed out!
The guy is the perfect southern stereotype. He believes that the south is always right, and the north sucks. Hes not helpful, but he can be funny. The tests are that bad, all multichoice, but read the questions carefully he words that verry difficult. becareful...he can be easy or hard
Don't do the reading, it's too much. He gives a studyguide a week or so before the test just use that. Nice guy. Tests are multiple choice and essay but he gives you the essay questions to study. Take him if you need this class.
Excellent teacher- humor, personality, wisdom he has it all. Make the effort to get to know him Stay after class talk to him visit him ask him questions very interesting. Buy the book-esp the readings one, do the reading if you can- if not dont sweat it-u gutta do the readings from the guide though. Study your ass off with the guide=U win! Get an A
all around nice guy, willing to help. buy the book, even if you dont really use it, its helpful for the studyguide, and if u dont bring it to class he will call you out on it, without a doubt. read test ?s carefully and NEVER choose BYOB
I love this professor, he's funny and he knows alot on the topics. you must pay attention and if you do all the work he assigns, you'll get a good grade.
Best teacher at BSC hands down. Makes everything interesting and usually hillarious. Eats breakfast in commuter caf alot and is willing to sit and talk with you. Only down side is he doesn't teach any upper level courses.
Absolutely NOT the best teacher at BSC.... his notes were all over the place, he wasn't clear about what, exactly, he wanted us to know for tests, and took FOREVER to hand them back. He is rude, sometimes funny, boring, and I had no idea wtf he was talking about. Do not recommend.
Great teacher, funny, smart and keeps class interesting. Very fair grader. Take lots of notes and listen to him during class and you will do well. But don't take him lightly, test aren't easy.
nice guy really funny and knows his stuff take really good notes his tests are easy enough multiple choice and essays on readings he gives you before hand USE EXAMPLES AND USE WORDS LIKE BECAUSE, FOR EXAMPLE and things of that nature he eats it up
Best teacher! Do not do the readings until get study guide. Prep essays night before the test. Study and have complete understanding of terms, link em together, know why its important Talk to Cox- great guy. I love him- talk to him. He is a southerner, but if you as a Northerner defend ur position- he will admire u. Be ready to support your ideas
One of the worst teachers. His notes are horrible..he rambles on about useless things. Gives you study guides before each test but the tests are wicked hard. Essays are given before hand. Takes 4 weeks to hand back tests also. Would NOT recommend this class. SO BORING...
He is a really nice guy. Very funny. However, his test are really hard. His notes are not clear at all. He will talk about one subect then completely go off topic
Charles was my Professor for (2) history classes back in 1992 & 1993. Professional teacher, hope all is well.
Pretty funny guy. Don't fall asleep or interrupt his class though. Tests are easy as long as you prepare for them. Nice easy going atmosphere. Would recommend and would take again in the future.
He tries to make himself to be a grumpy SOB but enjoys what he does. He knows the material and communicates it effectively. I had him first thing in the morning and he was always a few minutes late. His tests are easy enough if you prepare for them. If you got a 93 + on the first three then you didn't need to take the final.
Cool guy and pretty funny. Don't bother doing the readings. Just take some notes and study the study guide and its an easy A. Definitely recommended.
this guy will make u laugh.naturally fun and smart.he talked to everyone as if they were freshman and i didn't like that.he could be a little more encouraging in that sense to inspire intellectual conversations amongst everyone.i like interactive classes where you can express your ideas,i think you learn more that way.otherwise, good teacher.
This is my favorite class. He's funny and makes the class interesting. Friendly and fair. Good guy just to talk to. He is over flowing with knowledge. (He rambles sometimes.)Take good notes and do the reading and you'll be fine.
Great Professor! Let us use an index card on the tests. Tests were not that hard. Nice guy
I'm going to steer VERY far away from taking his classes again. He is hard to follow and you are on your own when it comes to taking notes. He puts one word sentances on the board and asks you more complex version questions on the test. Lots of reading and buying the book is a must, also costs $120+ ... attendance is mandatory! Dont recomend him :(
Attendance can only skip 5 classes! Test there are 4, including the final. get to use a notecard on test. say if you do good on 2 test dont have to take third. drop lowest test grade. he is very helpful & love the class. he can jump around alot but its really not that bad. dont buy the book I never used it at all. he says to but dont! uses google!
If you study , you will learn. He is not easy but it great fun to learn from.
Dr. Cox was always there to help and easy to understand. If you go to class, take notes on everything, not just what he puts on the board, and study, you will do well. Also two of the tests were online including the final. How could you fail? Great Guy!
Nice guy. All of our tests were used on moodle including final. Just brought in the essays the day after the test. You take notes and go to class your'll be fine. TAKE HIM =)
Great course. If you pay attention you will learn alot! Funny stories included! Gives study guides and is there to help you if needed. Take this course!8
He is rude and has no respect for his students. He thinks he is better than every one and when you ask him questions through email such as a test date he responds by saying that you should know when it is and does not give you an answer. Lots of readings. 3 Essays per exam. Extremely hard to follow in class. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
Study guides for three tests & final that are terms and essays that rely heavily on the online reading. Easy weekly forum questions online, all tests on online also. Expects students to buy the book, but you can survive without. Says he is always available for extra help but can seem unapproachable sometimes. Nice enough to take for a requirement.
Prof Cox is great! Evening class and was always entertaining and informative. Optional field trip for extra credit was interesting. Three tests (mix of multiple choice done in class and essays brought in from home). If you get a 93 or higher on all three you don't have to take the final. Otherwise you get to drop the lowest of the three tests.
VERY hard to follow. He rambles on about nonsense and thinks he is way better than everyone. The tests are on moodle but it is impossible to search the answers because the questions don't make sense to begin with. Three essays for every test
Great guy, very interesting professor. If you study the guides you will do well on the exams. Gives extra credit for the museum trip. Enjoyed this class alot!
Horrible teacher, switch out of class ASAP. He rambles on about nothing important about the class. And good luck trying to take notes, he writes one word then completely goes off topic with it. Each test you have to answer 3 essay questions in which he just gives you a selection and you have to figure out what is "IN" it. Goodluck with him
Great professor. There isn't any homework just four tests, including the final. If you get an A on all three tests you can skip the final. He's not a good lecturer; he's all over the place(will jump from 1500s to Nazi germany without really any connection) so you really have to depend on the readings and Google for the tests. Really sweet & funny
I adored prof. Cox. He is easy as pie! Always willing to take extra credit! Go to a history museum and he'll love it. I would take him again and again, such a funny guy
He is the funniest professor i have ever had. As long as you do well on the tests you're good for the class. You take 3 tests and as long as you get a 93 or above on all of them you don't have to take a final. Super easy to talk to. Very understanding. Very much lecture heavy and lectures are all over the place.
Lectures are basically useless but you have to go to class, he makes you write your name on a notebook. He is a nice man, kind of bitter and rude, but also sort of nice. 3 tests and a final, no homework/quizzes, just the exams, he drops the lowest grade and if you get 3 A's u can skip final. Overall an OK class, not a great one.
I was fortunate enough to have Professor Cox last semester and this spring semester for my history requirements. He has bestowed much wisdom and superb knowledge of the course material, as well as a very interesting and wonderful philosophy of life. Prepare for an amazing semester with Cox and his wonderful personality and great sense of humor.
Cox is a funny guy, definitely likes to jump to different eras and cross reference. But as others have said, his lectures are rants, tests are quick, and if you are a good writer, you'll do well. Contrary to what others say, as long as you arent a History major, take him.
Prof Cox is hilarious and really easy to talk to. However, I HATED him as a teacher. His lectures never make any sense, and are impossible to take notes on. Tests ask a lot of questions on things never taught, but he usually scales them. You're only graded on the tests, which are super short but difficult. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunity
Professor Cox is a very nice guy don't get me wrong but the way he "teaches" is unexplainable. Every class is a long lecture about nothing that links to the subject of the course. I learned more about his southern charm and sweet tea than I did about World History. Love the guy but teaching wise I'll have to pass.
Dr. Cox is probably one of my favorite professors! He is hilarious, and he is all for extra credit. Just go visit a museum write a short paragraph paper on it and boom! His lectures can be confusing, but normally when he writes on the board, that's the important stuff! If you get a 93 on three of the tests you don't have to take the final!
Professor Cox is funny and a great person, however his class annoyed me. I'm a History major so I enjoy lectures, but they were unfocused and had little to do with what you would be tested on. Grading criteria on the papers was unclear, and he would often say incorrect information - like naming the wrong monarch/autocrat for a certain legislation.
Very funny guy. The class can drag by sometimes while hes talking for an hour. To summarize if he tells you to remember something or write something down, do it, its useful. Tests are short but only hard if your notes arent good. If you can write good essays youll pass no problem. Also take any extra credit he offers can help in the long run.
By far one of the best professors Ive had between both of the two universities I have attended. Such a great caring guy. Also a very funny. As long as you read and take good notes he makes it almost impossible to fail. He gives study guides and exam questions in advance and covers them in class before exams. Took two classes w/him! 221&131
Prof. Cox teaches very little and I didn't learn much. It takes a long time to get feedback and communication was lacking. You could read the book, but his questions and answers don't align with the text so it makes it difficult if you aren't in class for lectures. This made it challenging to succeed remotely because he didn't provide any lectures.
During COVID-19, he said he would post his lectures along with the book readings, but he only posted 1 lecture. Online tests and final took way too long to complete because they were all essay questions. Discussion posts and test answers were never good enough and you could take info right out of the book and he would say it's wrong. I would avoid.
Absolutely the worst! Avoid if possible. He does not respond to emails and when doing your assignments do not bother getting information from the assigned textbook, you'll be wrong either way. Best of Luck
One of the worst history classes that I have taken at Bridgewater. Discussions don't correlate with the book. Anything quoted from the book are incorrect in his eyes, and he degrades his students on the blackboard. The exams are hard to find online and, in the book, impossible to answer. Also, he is not prompt with emailing. Find a friend to help.
Professor Cox is one of the worst professors I've ever had. I took his class online; asynchronous. He is an extremely hard grader, he is rude, the textbook he assigned makes no sense/ isn't helpful. His tests are ridiculously hard and do not correlate at all to the LIMITED notes he provides. If you score bad jokes on you b/c he gives NO feedback!
Mr Cox never admits to being wrong and will fail people as a scare tactic. I did not enjoy my time in this course and had trouble paying attention in lectures as he would get off subject so often. Beware he will call on you out of the blue and expect any sort of response whether right or wrong
He doesnt make any sense when he lectures everything is all over the place he rambles when he speaks to the class and on test asks unclear questions. A waste of time.
All he does is talk in class and honestly you cannot even learn from him/take notes. I honestly do not know how I passed. He scaled the tests so much because we all did not know what was going on half the time. He is also like 5-10 minutes late almost every day. He is a really nice guy, but I probably would not take his class again.
I love this professor, he was funny in class and overall cares about his students, he makes the course clear and easy to understand giving you a good grade. As long as you take notes most of the time you will pass. I took it because it was a requirement but ended up not hating it because of him
OMG! Where do I begin with Professor Cox? This dude is by far one of the funniest professors I have ever had. He cracks jokes with all of his students and he just lightens up the mood. This class is book heavy and lecture heavy, but I would 10/10 take another history just have Professor Cox again.
Professor Cox is extremely caring and funny. His class is lecture heavy, but all the lectures come straight from the textbook. Easy A. Only 3 assignments the whole semester, 2 tests and the final. His study guides are straight-forward and go right along with the test. Would absolutely recommend!
This is probably the hardest to follow class ever, he just sits in front of you and talks, no slides so reading the text is extremely important as you get nothing out of the actual class, there are only 3 assignments, all tests which are fairly easy
His class is boring. He sits in a chair and speaks for the entire period every day and you're expected to take notes the entire time. There are no assignments, only 3 tests. The study guide is terrible. It's one page that gives terms on what will be on the test. I would've skipped his class if attendance wasn't mandatory. He's a good person though.
Firstly, Professor Cox is a great man who provides many extra credit opportunities. He helped me immensely by offering constructive criticism that improved my writing skills and grades on future tests. While I appreciate his support, I won't miss his often directionless lectures. Overall, his class has been impactful for my academic journey.
Good professor, he offers lots of extra credit opportunities. Very lecture heavy and you are only graded on a couple exams. He gives you study guides for all the exams, lets you know the essay questions, and uses the class before as review. Even if you ignored most of the lectures you can just study information regarding the study guide and pass.
I really loved him, he left in the middle of the semester but amazing teacher. He didn't use slides or anything visuale so if you need that to take notes he doesn''t use any. Loved him a lot tho
