Everytime I asked him for help he left me confused and feeling dumb. He gives you very little time to take your tests and if you mess up a little bit (i.e. put a calculation wrong in the calculator) he rarely is willing to give partial credit. The average test score in my class was 55%. He does do a good job of curving your overall grade.

Doesn't teach too well, and doesn't follow the book at all. you are responsible to figure out how everything works on your own...good luck. Great Hand writing though.

1. Dr. Davidson doesn't test on what he teaches. His tests are 10x harder than they should be and they don't cover what you have learned. 2. He is no help in his office, his answer to everything seems to be, "Well, it looks to me like you need to study harder." It looks to ME like he needs to be a better teacher!

confusing, goes into alot of o-chem where most 1010 classes don't. Lets u have note cards on tests plus a periodic table which is nice. Has quizes every class that can b pretty tough, he expects u 2 memorize everything u learned in the class before 4 quiz. Not always up front bout what's on tests, esp on final. Plus he has no e-mail address

The best Chemistry professor yet! This man knows everything and knows the value of education. I think he knows more about education and how to educate others than several of those that have their M.Ed. Great professor and wise individual.

This man is the most bull-headed man I've ever met. I tried to talk to him about my grades and he just sat there, and was a complete JERK about it. He says he gives partial credit on tests, but if you put a wrong number in one of the places, he won't give any credit and says that you just don't understand how anything works! WASTE OF TIME/MONEY!

I was not happy with this teacher. He was not easy to follow. You might as well just read the book and hope for the best. There is not a lot of time to ask questions. I took this class in a 6 week block- very hard. He does cover a lot of material and allows note cards for tests. I thought class was hard for a 1010 class.

Davidson is a horrible professor. When you ask a question, he makes you feel stupid for not knowing it. Only to find that he doesn't know everything that he teaches. He grades unfairly, and makes mistakes when he grades tests. If you take from this man, I feel sorry for you! He is the worst professor I've ever had!

He gives quizzes on every homework assignment but the questions come from the homework packets. His tests don't seem to cover the material he does in class. He curves the grades. He was not a horrible teacher, I enjoyed being in his class but would not recommend him if you do not understand the basics of chemistry.

I am now in grad school and have a closer relationship with professors...I have not met a prof worse than Davidson. DO NOT take chemistry from this guy! He's perhaps the rudest person I've ever met in academia.

Very difficult to get along with. I learned mostly out of the textbook. He initially stated the final would not be comprehensive, then changed his mind toward the end of the semester and made it comprehensive. If you can avoid this professor, avoid him! If you can't, I'm sorry and we all sympathize with you! The worst professor I've ever had.

Dr. Davidson is very helpful in his office if you take in the problem with what you have tried so far. He has sat with me for over an hour explaining some of the more esoteric thermodynamic ideas. Because of him I am convinced that p-chem though difficult can be done. He loves practical applications of chemistry. Wonderful Man.

Dr. Davidson's class is very challenging. I felt like he went off topic a lot, but overall, he did an okay job of explaining the concepts so you could get the basic idea. He is willing to help you if you go and ask him for help. Covers organic chem. that was fun. Tests are challenging. Best bet is to read the book, ask for help if needed and pray.

I had him for a lab instructor. He is very good at explaining things on a level you can understand. He does seem impatient with the students and most questions he just said "read the manual" which we had done and didn't understand. I asked him why I missed a question on one lab and he took more points off and never did answer me.

I had Davidson for 1210 and 1220. Tests are almost impossible. He gives practice tests on a CD for 1210--which actually were helpful. BUT in 1220 he doesn't have a CD and you're forced to use an old (SUPER old!) program only available on the campus computers. On the good side he is willing to answer any questions you have. Just make sure to read.

I had him for online chemistry which, at first I thought was going to be very challenging but he answered all of my questions quickly over e-mail and the program he's written truly teaches you a lot about chemistry. I think he nailed it.

He is not very willing to explain things. He will do it once, but if you don't understand it he just leaves you with your own thoughts. There is no explanation on the labs and we get lost. We have to understand it all on our own.

Whats to say? In my class, he uses a text book that has a few errors. A quiz on what was covered last class every week. If you have a question, he will tell you its in your notes. I wish I would have taken from someone else.

I had him for online, it was a pretty easy class and I learned a lot about chemistry. I liked his computer program, I had troubles installing it and he was very helpful.

Hard Class! It's hard to connect the concepts taught in class with the assignments and visa versa. Uses Chemtutor.edu and Saplinglearning.com; I prefer book and assignment, but that's personal preference. gives almost NO partial, if it's wrong your 100% wrong. Avoid taking his section.

He's pretty useless if he doesn't have his notes in front of him. A frequent answer to a students question will be "it's in the book" or "its in your notes". Expect that he'll fumble with the harder questions on recitation day and ultimately tell you that he'll have to get back to you. You'll have to teach yourself if you expect to learn much.

I took this class online. Pretty easy. I wish the assignments could be submitted online instead of having to take them to him or mail them in. Responds quickly to emails and pretty helpful.

Not a hard teacher, but not a cakewalk. Occasionally gives "group assignments" for credit when class attendance is low. Everything he teaches is almost verbatim from the textbook. Dude relates chem to real world, which was interesting. But at the same time, I learned more from reading the text.

He spits out information and you'd better listen because if you don't its very hard to ask him a question, he usually replies with "I gave you that" or "we talked about that" I had to do most of my learning on my own through other resources. I would recommend finding a better teacher.

Absolutely dreadful. As previously stated, he is very difficult to work with. I learned quicker and easier from the textbook than I did in class. Also, the online homework is a pain, as you'll often get deductions for rounding off one two many digits, being very slightly off (.1 or so) in calculations and other annoying quirks. Would not recommend.

Dr. Davidson is a remarkable! His enthusiam helped make this class an enjoyable experience. If you find yourself stuck on a problem I suggest you go to his office. He will help answer any question you have. He cares about his students... if you take the time to get to know him, you will understand what a fantastic Professor he truly is

His lectures are confusing and unorganized, and when asked questions he gets frustrated. His tests are on chitester and don't focus on the chapters just covered but from everything you've learned in 1210 and 1220. He assigns a lot of homework that's tedious. The only benefit is that he grades on a curve. Would not recommend.

This is the most frustrating class I've ever taken. As stated before, he is unable to answer homework questions in class, he consistently marks questions wrong on the exams that are correct and it's up to you to find his mistakes. He also stopped lecturing for two weeks and told us to learn on our own. WORST CLASS EVER. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS

Didn't find him helpful at all. Took this corse online. If you get more then 10 answers wrong on the quizzes you have to answer the 250 questions again. I wouldn't recommend taking online and defiantly not from him. Not very helpful

Not an exceptional teacher. Can grow a little impatient if you don't catch on right away. Can be extremely helpful and accommodating with questions if you seek him out and aren't a bum. Enjoyed the online version as I could pace myself and repeat online material I needed to see more than once. Dig in and do the work and it's not too difficult.

Took the hybrid Chemistry class from Dr. Davidson, and well, it was pretty average. He does tend to get a little impatient with students if a concept isn't understood right away, and continues to berate you if the message still isn't driven home. Has good intentions, but lackluster deliverance. Do not buy the textbook.

I think he is willing to help his students outside of the class. I had D when I took first 2 exams but after that I started working hard and end up getting an A. If you work hard you can definitely get an A. He gives you quiz every week.

He is a super nice guy and you can tell that he is passionate about chemistry however, his tests are 10 questions long and there are only a few multiple choice problems, all others calculation. I failed every test. His teaching style is lecture, which did not work for me for this subject. The homework was nothing like class lectures and the test.

There's a few ups and downs. Outside of lectures, Davdison is a great utilizable resource. He's always there to run the extra mile to drive the concepts home. Good sense of humor, lenient grader, and very enthusiastic about chemistry. On the flip side, however, tests are tough and do NOT leave room for error. Minimal EC. Buy the book!

Honestly, Davidson is great. The class is a little tough, but that's the beauty of this beast, it's a tough subject. He's always willing to help outside of class time, and would thoroughly recommend utilizing him as a resource about concepts you can't quite grasp. Not really a need to buy the book, save yourself $250. Would take again.

He will make you feel like an idiot if you ask for help. It is better just to work with other students or go ask other teachers for help. He is a very hard grader when it comes to tests and lab, however the test questions are straight from the homework which helps a lot. He does not prepare for lecture well, so be prepared to teach yourself.

Yes, Prof. Davidson is not the greatest of teachers, but he does know what he's talking about. The class is well-outlined, but there's a lot of homework and the tests are only 13 questions long, taken out of 12 (so 1 EC question on each test). I've never studied so hard in my life nor done so much homework. Find some friends and help each other!

Took in Spring 2016. I had never taken chemistry before and it was harder than I thought it would be. Every week you have to complete a large amount of reading and score 80% on that content to continue. Don't rush through it, the final was worth half of the overall grade. I procrastinated and it became very stressful towards the end, otherwise ok.

Online step-by-step learning program used, i loved it! There R ch. tests that R open book and can be do as many times as U want, I made flash cards. The labs at home were not bad. The final is VERY similar to the ch. test ?'s! Final is timed so you need to be quick and know UR stuff! meet Davidson 1x and he was very helpful! I would take again :)

Dr. Davidson definitely knows the material, but it felt like he didn't know how to teach some of it, especially the really hard to understand material. The grades come from quizzes on each chapter, tests every 2 or 3 chapters and lab. You definitely need to study and work hard if you hope to get a good grade, he offers lots of extra credit.

I took this course online and it was easy to keep up with. Dr. Davidson has clear instructions about when assignments and tests need to be completed and what they are worth. There are a lot of questions in the online tutor program that you use but it is very easy. You can take chapter tests as many times as you want! Experiments were simple.

I took the online course and loved the format of the course. You work online at your own pace, take a quiz at the end of each chapter. There were some exercises and some at home experiments. The exams were fair and came from the material covered. Chemistry is a tough subject, but I enjoyed the course.

Hardest chemistry class so far and I'm in Chem1220. WHICH IS A GOOD THING. If you plan on going on to 1210,1220, and Ochem, he will really push you. You get an A or even a B in this class, you are 95% equipped for 1210, and you will definitely get A's for the advanced classes. Not recommended for the 1100 series or if you don't plan on Genchem1&2.

If you fail 1 test you have to get 100 on every other test and quiz just to get a 90 in the class. lectures are a waste of time. His teaching is basically the chem tutor online. He will just ASSUME that you already know everything. Do not buy or rent the text book you will not use it. Expect to learn everything on your own, or prepare to fail.

I took the Hybrid version of this class with the ChemTutor and it was extremely difficult. It was very time consuming and the homework is super long. He doesn't go over anything in his hour long "lecture" time unless someone has a specific problem for him to do. Otherwise you're teaching yourself all the material. Test problems were a lot harder.

Expected this class to be hard but I hated every second. He accidentally posted the wrong $200 txtbk, and labs were pretty pointless because he didn't explain/teach anything. Tons of homework and the diff sites didn't match up well. He was available to talk to but treated me like I was dumb. Didn't teach at all and tests were needlessly confusing.

He was the absolute worst teacher! We met once a week for an hour class, and a 3 hour lab. Outside of class I averaged 9+ hours a week on an online lecture system he had. He set the hour long class aside as time to ask questions, but often he couldn't answer the questions we asked. Don't take if you don't have too, I can't describe how bad it was.

The online class is the worst format I can possibly imagine! I am one week into the class and beyond confused. Between the $35 packet, the mail in assignments, and the horribly outdated Chemtutor, this class is frustrating to say the least. I don't doubt that this guy is a good professor, but his online class is just plain stupid.

Chem 1010 was very time consuming with Dr. Davidson. He replied to emails quickly, but was often condescending if you asked him questions. The online program takes a ton of time to do, but if you do the review and tests over and over, you'll get an A. 4 exams. They have the same questions as the review/tests on the chem program.

I love this class, His homework are long expect that. and on his homework he is pretty tough. Ask question might sound stupid but he will guide you through it. it is an easy A. If you don't like Chemistry, and you need it for general ed take it this class. Oh and he take his homework pretty serious, and his quiz are same as home test.

Took the class online and they used a ChemTutor program to teach it, easy for the most part, lots of reading. I took notes while doing it, which helped a lot with chapter tests (1x a week). Assignment about 1x a week (easy though). Exams aren't bad and you can bring notes to them. Learned lots and actually really liked the class. No textbook needed

Never met someone who is more prepared for lectures. Super willing to help outside of class. I highly recommend him for the 1210/1220 summer series. The classes are tough and you should expect to work hard, but all exam questions come from the (ungraded) homework packets and he spends the first part of class going over questions.

I was nervous after these ratings. Y'all, his exams, quizzes, and homework are the exact same questions. Do your homework and you'll pass. He gives time in the beginning of class to answer q's, his door is always open, he really cares that people learn and he has a deep understanding and teaches very well. You can't go wrong! I took Chem 1200 with Dr. Davidson. His teaching style is very unique and doesn't work for some students. Do the homework assignments, prepare for quizzes and DO NOT skip class. I took chem online from this professor and he should not be an online teacher. Not because the class was difficult but because he doesn't understand how to use Canvas which is ridiculous. you have to hand write and scan in every assignment then email them to him. It's a lot. Got a decent grade but it was a hassle to turn in assignments.

The online 1010 class is great. Chemtutor is easy enough to figure out if you have a brain. Just take notes during the slides, the review tests are easy, and the exams have the same questions as the slides do. The assignments can be filled out in the packet and then just take a picture of it and send it to him on email. Overall it's a great class.

You're either going to love Dr. Davidson or hate him. His teaching style is different in that you learn at home through online coursework, and then come to class to ask questions on homework and take quizzes. Homework problems aren't graded but DO them, as they show up on the exams. Allowed to use 3x5 card on exams and a periodic table.

Dr. Davidson is incredibly difficult to take as he doesn't teach very much. He expects you to have a significant amount of time outside of his class and to use that time to learn his class. Most leave his class confused and he isn't very good at explaining things in way the whole class understands. Some find him a great professor, for me he wasn't.

I have no background in Chemistry. He was the hardest professor I had ever taken. Once I understood his teaching style and how things work, everything became easy and started to make sense. Do his homework diligently and you will shine. Skip on his home work and you will burn and crash, I guarantee it. Approach him outside classroom if you have to.

Took the accelerated chem1210 and 1220 in the summer. The difficulty is definitely up there but the quizzes and tests come directly from the homework! If you put in the work you will understand the material. He is very passionate about his work and making sure that you are getting the concepts. During the summer he offers extra credit too!

CHEM 1010 online with prof Davidson was a like a dream. No textbook required, but instead a course kit that costed approx $30, SCORE. I spend 1-2 days a week learning chapter material and taking the smaller weight tests, every 3 weeks I am on campus for heavier weight exams. Very upfront, self-paced class. I don't know how you could fail.

This class is taught step by step by an online module which is pretty boring to go through. Go through the chapters, then right before the test go through the reviews for each chapter. Overall pretty easy. The few times I did contact Dr Davidson he responded fairly quickly. Not bad for an online science class.

Teacher is easily accessible out of class and responds to emails quickly but he doesn't care about your efforts in his class. I struggled with a lab and showed him a picture and asked for feedback on why it wasn't working and he basically said that everything looked fine and was not helpful at all. You can pass this class.. if you teach yourself.

Overall, the class was really easy, but don't underestimate how long some chapter can take. Make sure you use the chemtutor review before the hour tests. My only complaint was that Davidson graded assignments pretty tough despite the assignments having many problems not covered in the chapter.

I really liked this class, but my life was saved because a guy in the class had a chegg subscription and used it to work through homework, and he sent his work to everyone. Davidson is really thorough when answering specific homework questions, but his lectures can deviate from test material pretty often. He is really easy to work with though!

Prof. Davidson is probably one of the worst professors I've ever dealt with. You're basically teaching yourself because he doesn't really go over the material he expects you to read about it yourself. He also is very condesending if you aren't understanding a question. He doesn't treat this class like a college course he treats us like children.

I enjoyed taking Dr. Davidsons online Chem 1010 class. He isn't overly involved with the class, but he responds to emails and questions. He takes the time to respond to your assignments with feedback which was nice. The class is taught using an online step-by-step program which I thought worked well. The tests aren't too hard if you take notes.

Charles Davidson is not a bad professor, but I will say Chemtutor, which is the application the online course uses is absolutely abhorrent. I came to Weber State and pay 3k a semester for the best or above average learning material and teachers. Chemtutor looks like an underfunded elementary school app. I can say this cause I was in one growing up.

This is the worst way to teach a class I have ever come across. Each section is 200-300 frames,and allows for 0 flexibility so if you even miss capitalize a word, even when it didn' matter you would get the frame wrong. tests ok but what ever u do don't fail them, this terrible program makes you do the whole section again!! professor ignored me.

This professor is ridiculous. He expects you to teach yourself Chemistry by using some outdated 90's software. He doesn't know how to use Canvas!! He has you print, upload, and email him all of your assignments through the school email. He doesn't put ANY effort into teaching the class. Zero lectures given. I dropped his class before I could fail.

This professor did not teach any material, all learning was done outside of class. Class time was used today roserions, but 1/3 of the time a question was asked, he didnt know the answer or straight up ignored it. Im sure hes much better in person, but over zoom, I would never take this professor again.

You learn from the book. All he does is work out problems in class. He doesn't lecture. He doesn't even get the right answers to questions he works out and gets asked. He gives homework, quizzes, tests, AND exams. Exams are an hour long for like 5-10 questions. The exams are not multiple choice. He uses old technology which makes it hard to learn.

I had him for lab. I think he did little to teach the class. I dreaded asking him questions because he made me feel like I was asking a stupid question and would never answer it anyway. Plan on figuring things out on your own. I don't think he's a bad guy, I just wish he was willing to answer questions and help students

My biggest problem is with the workload. The workload every week consists of the 300 question lessons, the 50 question test, the activity/assignment, the chapter quiz taken during the "lectures," and the hour-long zoom lectures that are really only a review of the past week that teaches nothing.

I took Dr. Davidsons accelerated summer course. Easily the hardest class I've taken. That being said, I have learned so much from Dr. Davidson. You can tell he truly cares about his students. His lectures were pretty long but he made them very entertaining with fun stories and real world applications for what we were learning. 10/10 would recommend

He gave us tons of homework, but didn't give us credit for doing the homework. You would get credit for passing his quizzes which were extremely harder than the homework. The test were also very hard and no way to make up points or learn from your mistakes. If you can/want to learn chemistry without a teacher, then this class is for you.

He is my lab instructor but is absolutly useless. Doesn't care if I understand and just makes me feel like an idiot if I ask a question. I was going to take the 2nd part of this class during the summer, until I saw he was the professor, I'd rather take another full semester than have to deal with him again. So frustrating. I don't know about his in person classes, but online he is very set it and forget it. I think we heard maybe 2 peeps out of him the whole semester. The labs also don't seem to match up to the learning material at all. If you know what you're doing, take him. His class is good for blitzing. If you don't, I wouldn't.

Be prepared for a long amd tedious semester. The program he uses for class is horrid. He doesn't explain what we are learning, and when someone asks a question he doesn't really answer it. As well as if you have accommodations there is a high chance he will disregard them. Even of you are sick in the hospital you can't make up quizzes.

I don't understand all the rough comments for this professor. I feel that many students don't understand that this is a 5 credit hour class. You are expected to study 15hrs+ a week. If you miss class obviously you are going to miss critical information. I didn't do anything special just studied a lot and this accelerated course went well for me.

The tests are fair. You need to make sure that you do the homework provided or you will not do well in this class. This class involves a large amount of self learning as the professor will not give you the equations to solve the homework problems. Expect to spend a minimum of 15 hours a weeks to self study if you want a good grade in this class.

Dr. Davidson is an alright instructor, I took his summer class and frankly it did feel like being hit by a truck. My biggest complaint was how he scheduled Stuff having a Lab, Quiz, Activity and Exam all on the Same day while other days nothing was due week over week. Overall he's a fine instructor, but you can tell he's burring out.

I was afraid to take a course from Dr. Davidson after reading some of his reviews, but I'm glad I did. I wouldn't say he's the ideal professor, but he knows what he's talking about and he's good at explaining topics. Honestly I don't know why people are so hard on Davidson. I have never had a professor literally give you the test bank as homework. If you do the homework that is your weekly test questions and quiz questions. Doesn't mean the class isn't hard, but Davidson makes it doable for sure.

The program "Chemtutor" was awful, there are many chapters and each chapter has at least over 200+ questions, after that there is a quiz that you take and if you don't get 40/50 or higher you HAVE TO redo the whole 200+ questions and retake the quiz all before the deadline. There is a chapter due each week and late work is not accepted.

He was the worst professor I've ever had. I did my Chem1220 labs with him. Instructions aren't clear and he makes you feel stupid if you ask questions. Mostly says "It's not my job to do the work for you" when we ask for help. Told us that if we couldn't finish the second half of one of our long labs that we'd just have to lose those points.

Pt. 1: Very harsh grader. Doesn't do lectures so basically you need to teach yourself everything. There are weekly chapters on Chem tutor that are usually over 200- 300 questions but if you capitalize the proper nouns or put a spelled out number instead of just the symbol (got to part 2)

ChemTutor is a nightmare. 200-300 questions per section (there are 13) and a 50 question test for each of those. There are also a lot of experiments due. Something I disagree with is that he wasn't kind or helpful. I had a lot of trouble in this class and he always answered me promptly and with respect. I learned a lot even though it was hard!

Dr. Davidson taught the Lab section of 1210/15, there were times that he seemed like he wasn't sure what he was doing, and got frustrated when something wasn't working. He was very impatient with some students and was not very kind to multiple students.

I initially wrote a very negative review about Dr. Davidson. He is an amazing person doing a solid job at teaching a difficult subject. I highly recommend taking CHEM1200 before this class. Dr. Davidson is old fashioned with traditional lectures, but as long as you haven't grown complacent through the pandemic you have all the tools to succeed.

He's a kind professor who cares about your success. His 1010 class has long assignments on ChemTutor and difficult tests, and I failed it the first time, but it wasn't because of any fault on his part. There are also physical assignments, but they give you most of the materials. Tough class for me but probably easier for people good at chemistry.

This is one of the worst professors at Weber State. DO NOT TAKE WITH HIM! Don't expect to learn a thing in lecture; you will need to self study all of the content. He covers maybe 5% of the material that is on the homework, and when confronted about it, says that he "forgot". Not worth the struggle at all.

Professor Davidson's class is challenging but manageable if you put in the work. Attend lectures, complete homework, and use resources like ChatGPT and Unstuckstudy for study prep. The exams are fair, just make sure to stay on top of the material.

Overall this class was easy. I am not a science person and was nervous but this was very easy. We used ChemTutor for our "lectures" and it was time consuming but very helpful. Tests are posted well in advance and you are given adequate time to review. The course is laid out very well and very organized. You always knew what was expected of you.

I took the accelerated course knowing that it would be a lot of work. Everything is based on the homework. The quizzes are based on your homework. Your activities are based on homework. I took his summer 2nd block class, and tbh he was super chill when it came to changing due dates, and he was super chill in lab. Ig, the only thing that would worry me as a student would be the exams, which are worth around 80% of the final grade, but the exams are copied and pasted from the HW and quizzes. So if you're a good test taker, take it.

His tests are based off the homework exactly just different numbers. BUT it's free response answers, with only 14 questions per test (based off an extensive homework packet), and the tests are worth 80% of your grade! You need to be 100% prepared for each test, because just one missed question hurts. Awful set up imo, lock in if you have to take it

His lecture is way overkill. Make one mistake, his answer will be "go restart" no matter what point you are in the lab. His lab final was identifying 20 unknowns using tests from chem 2 AND chem 1 labs (which you can't even access anymore) and you have to come up with them and write them on a sheet. Can't work with a partner either. Don't take it

I took this class for summer sem and I think it was pretty straightforward. For the online class there are no lectures, everything is reading his book or chemtutor slides (some chapters had over 200 slides), but the material was not hard. He does not take late work and this is not a class where you can finish work last minute you can work ahead.
