A very nice and funny guy. Takes in everyone on the waiting list so the class is OVER CROWDED. He drops students who don't turn it the first HW. Lots of hw, about 3-4 hours of work a week(well maybe not alot), only night classes though

He is very fair. Alot of homework, he doesn't check it, just feels if thick enough, then gives full points. His quizzes come right out of the text examples and those reappear on the final. The only down fall, you have a 10 point quiz every class.

I did not touch math book since 1992, but his lecture makes me like math more after every lecture. He is so clear and organized. When he took a business travel for two weeks, I missed him so much. Highly recommeded, A+++

Hands down best professor at De Anza. Not only is the class easy, but he makes math in general easy; his courses help build a strong foundation for future math courses. Won't test/quiz you on anything he hasn't thoroughly gone over in class. Do the homework...even though he doesn't check it.

This class is so awesome. As long as you do all the homework and study for the daily quizes, you'll do well in the class. He's always available, so if you ever have questions, he'll stay after just to help you. I really reccomend him, he's the best teacher i've ever had at DeAnza.

This teacher is seriously amazing. I was so scared of stats but he made it not so bad. You definately have to work hard cus there is lots of hw and quizzes everyday. You will learn in this class, but he makes you want to learn. And he makes stats really unintimidating. Hes also pretty funny.

Mr. De Volgelaere Was awesome!!! His teachings are clear and understandable, which makes it easy to learn. He likes to thrown in a little math humor and is a easy going guy. He is very helpful and makes you feel comfortable in class. I recomend him to anyone wanting to take Inter Alg. or Statistics.

Excellent Instructor! I have a hard time understanding math, and I received an A in this class. The material can be initially intimidating, but he broke it down well, and if you still don't get it, don't hesitate to ask; he will try to explain it in a different way. He's a very fair grader. He will let you know what will be covered on the tests.

Very easy, clear and well organized. You know exactly what is going to be expected from you on each exam. Funny, take him if you don't like math too much, explains well for slower students.

I normally don't take the time to rate a teacher unless they were outstanding. He is very clear. He loves math and takes the time to help his students UNDERSTAND, not just know the information. He goes over any homework questions you have before you turn it in. I love his corny math jokes and allegories. Take this class. Please.

Good teacher! Very kind to students. Gives lots of partial credit! Homework is required or you'll kill your grade -- he checks it but does not correct it. Requires attendance -- quiz or test each class session. Tests cover quiz material making studying easier. Subject matter can be hard, so plan extra tutoring if you don't "get it" in class.

I was worried about taking stats but after the first week I loved coming to class, this guy made it fun and really enjoyable. There was group work, quizes every class (easy), lots of homwwork but easy, HIGHLY RECOMENDED! if you want a good STATS teacher THIS IS THE GUY! TAKE THIS GUY

Very good at what he does! I heard very intimidating things about statistics, but after taking it with him, he makes it very easy to understand. There is homework due every week, quizzes every class, three tests and a final. He also offers extra credit. Going to class is mandatory, if you miss one then it's hard to make-up after. Recommended !!

I loved this class! He is super nice, and always willing to help. He will stay after class and answer questions, and will take as much time as you need till you understand. Mr. DeVogelaere is definately 1 of the greatest teachers at De Anza. U can tell he loves his subject & he really goes out of his way to help his students. I am horrible at math yet did well! I saw that no one got lower than a C in this class. :D Shows what an excellent teacher he really is! A plus is that he's so nice & funny!

The best stats teacher at De Anza in my opinion. The tests are really straightforward and are pretty easy if you do well on the quizzes (which are also easy). His class fills up quick!

He is an awesome teacher highly reccomend him! There are quizzes EVERY class but as long as you are present for the lectures and review your notes before the test then you'll do fine. The tests are a lil hard but you just have to study. He has a great personality just a great teacher all around! HIGHLY RECCOMENDED

He makes stats easy to learn and will help you individually with anything you don't understand. He gives a few homework assignments at a time but they aren't due until the next week. His subtle jokes are pretty funny and he has an entertaining personality that he brings to class, so you are being taught by another person not just a robot teacher.

Professor DeVogelaere is a really great and easy going instructor. He is very clear when lecturing; he likes to make sure everybody gets the problem. Quiz and exams are no problem just understands the homework and lectures. He got tons of good stories and jokes to keep the class entertained. I had a fun time in his class and I really recommend him.

Honestly, the BEST math teacher I have ever had. Before I took him as a stats teacher, I was very intimidated by statistics and I was very very skeptical of taking him because everyone said he made you take a quiz everyday. Boy, was I wrong. He makes stats look easy. BEST STATS TEACHER AT DE ANZA!! I got an A in the class & so did 90% of the class.

Amazing math/stats teacher. He makes you work for your grade. If it wasn't for all the homework and quizzes, I don't think I would have been able to receive the grade I got, an A. The homework and quizzes forces you to study for his class and by doing that, you will receive a A. If you cant pass his stats class, you cant pass any stat class. EASY A

Mr. DV is the BEST instructor you could picl for Stats. It's a really tough course and there is so much material. But that would be true of any stats class so what singles his class out is his great upbeat attitude and his desie to make sure his students are following his lecture. Lots of hw, and daily quizes, yet that makes tests passable.

Professor De Vogelaere is a great teacher. I would recommend him to anyone. The homework takes a lot of time so plan accordingly, but everything else is pretty easy. If you pay attention and listen, you can get A easily.

This is the guy to take if you struggle w/stats. He's patient and willing to help w/ques, he gives great outlines for tests. Do your hmrk! It's def. a challenging class, so set aside a big chunk of time to study. He's a great teacher, take him.

Def'nitly buy the homework manual study guide. u'll need it. He gave us lots of Homework so if you have a ft job like i hav and taking another class its hard. the final exam was really hard. its all cumulative. wish i didn't hav another final before his class, but i did. my mind blew up while taking test. got a B tho.

A generous, witty teacher. He gives a short quiz on every class to keep studying. He mentions what kind of question will be on the quiz before having the quiz. Webassign hw, 3 midterm, 1 final, some extra credit hw were given. If you study hard, it is not so much difficult to get good grade. I recommend to take his MATH1B class

He is a gem! He teaches great, uses Web Assign. Lots of weekly homework and daily quiz, but it helped me a lot. Nice friendly guy, throws in joke or two now and then to keep class alive.also gives you grade estimate to keep track of your progress. In whole, awesome teacher compared to a lot wore others. I loved his class.

Awesome professor! There are no surprises on the tests. He tells you everything he expects you to know before each test. Short 10 pt quizzes every class but they keep you studying for the material. Homework is on Webassign and is due usually every Monday. Highly recommended!

He is very helpful. The thing I did not like was homework, which was given a lot a lot and a lot. No open note, every quiz, he will tell you exactly what will be on the test. Nice and friendly, some extra credit (HW and quiz only). Overall, easy class

De Vogelaere is an outstanding teacher. He is careful and thorough in his class examples. Also, he always tries to explain the logic behind the problems he chooses. I was most appreciative of the way he checked for student comprehension as he was speaking. His exam are fair and he helps you prepare for them prior to taking them. Highly recommended!

His lectures are mostly from the book, all the examples he goes over are the examples in the book. Test every day (class was twice a week) and he always tells you what will be on the quiz. He tells you everything that will be on the test and the final. Show up, do the homework, and it should be an easy A.

Overall I thought that he was an amazing teacher. He was very helpful and always open to any questions. He gave short quizzes at the beginning of every class so be sure to go and get those points. Charles is a real homie. If you need to take calc and he's offering, do everything to get into his class! Homework is a bit on the heavy side and there is a quiz in every class. BUT he tells you exactly what is going to be on it, same with tests and the final. Also only teaches examples out of book so studying is ez. Charles is major key!

Awesome teacher - 100% recommend! Homework is online and pretty heavy, but not too bad. Quiz every class, but prof tells you exactly what to study. Exams are straightforward but they require some memorization and go by really quickly. Textbook not necessary, just find a PDF. Overall, it's not hard to do well in Charles' class and he's a dope guy.

Calc 1B can be a difficult course, but De Vogelaere makes it very straight-forward. Short quizzes everyday, but basically just to review previous lecture. Exams don't have many surprises, he makes sure to only test on material covered in class. Very understanding & nice guy, take him!

Better out of the other calc 1b profs. He doesn't give out A+'s which is kinda annoying. Study hard for each quiz and show him that you genuinely care and you should be fine. If you want to get an A be able to do all of the homework problems well and really understand those type of problems along with the ones in the quizzes.

We had a quiz every class, but as long as you show up and take note of the class, you are OK!! (No tricky questions) Although I dislike math, I was able to keep up with the materials. This is statis class, not mathematics! His lecture was organized and understandable. I highly recommend him. Just keep up with him and ask questions. (fall 2017)

Quiz every single class but that helps u to keep up with the class and be well-prepared for test. He is nice and caring, also gives lots of EC. Everything he covers on the day before test will be on the test. Nothing is tricky and just follow what he says in class. There r online hws due every week, 3 test, and 1 final. Take him his class isnt hard

Probably one of the best Math 12 professors you will ever get! You have to go to class for the daily quizzes but you will do fine because it's literally covering the lecture the class before. Do your hw, study the lectures and you will do great for your midterms and final! He is definitely super passionate about the subject! You will do great!

Want to know how desirable Charles is? The first day of the quarter, there was literally a line of 40 non waitlisted students stretching outside of the classroom trying to add his class. His class is so easy to get an A in as he offers 2 take home extra credit quizzes and 3 extra credit homework. This boosted my grade by 7 percent!

I agree with what everyone said below. He tells you exactly what will be on the tests, quizzes, and finals so everything is very easy! He always makes sure that everyone understands the content before moving on during his lectures and he is more than happy to answer any questions. Enroll asap as his class fills up fast! I passed with a 101%.

He is the best professor I have taken at De Anza College. His lectures are amazing and he takes a quiz at the beginning of every class, covering previous class' material. He is lenient on HW and extends the due date if requested. I'd suggest you do the HW on time to better understand what happened in class. His exam reviews can easily get you A.

Had him during Corona, so lecture was through Zoom. Homework and tests were lenient and had the same content. Honestly, you'll probably get a better grade than you deserve, but he taught all the necessary math so it's there if you want to learn it super well. If he makes a lecture mistake, he'll fix it & email the proper way later. Plus he's funny!

What a great professor. He is so sweet and funny in class (dad jokes/silly jokes) esp considering he's talking to a room of pictures. Quiz in every class but he's the kind of guy who wants you to succeed and learn so he also offers a lot of extra credit and drops lowest quiz. Lectures are slides from textbook so there's some self-learning involved

Professor De Vogelaere's class is one of a kind. Although he may come off as strict, he's actually pretty flexible, that said there are no extensions or much extra credit offered. If you take his class, be prepared to take notes and study well. There are no recordings, but the grades are curved slightly, so it's a good thing. Good luck y'all!

He is a very kind teacher, will always give most credit even though you did it wrong. Easy quizzes, tests, and final. He does Math 1C simple and he does not go deeply into complicated problem. Easy class. However, I feel that I am not ready for upper math classes. Not reccomend if you need this class to be the foundation of calculus!

Quizzes prior to every class meeting, 2 take-home quizzes, 1 ec homework and 1 ec quiz, 3 midterms, and 1 final. He's a funny teacher and nice to students. He organizes the slides very well. Quizzes and exams are open notes and books and completely based on hw, slides, and lecture recordings. Highly recommend him to everyone who wants an easy A.

Although comes off as strict and rude at first, turns out to be pretty considerate and understanding in the long run. Doesnt read emails and reply much, and if he does it takes a while for a response, and the lectures always felt stale. However, the test were never too hard and he was always flexible actually and a lot kinder than he comes off.

I took this class online so it wasn't too bad. There's hw that's mostly due every week. There's a short quiz every class, but he tells us what will be on it the class before.

Attendance is mandatory and there is a quiz in every class. The quizzes are not the most difficult but could bring your grade down quickly if you stumble. Has office hours every week and requires a camera for midterms and finals. A Webassign is due every week but that is it.

I cannot express how much I love this man, the best math teacher I have ever had. Quiz every lecture (stuff based on last class, just take good notes), and 4 tests every 2-3 weeks (last 2 weeks he gives test 3 and final so be prepared for that), lectures are very thorough and he will help you the best he can (love this man!)

Thought he was gruff at first, but he is very kind and has a wry sense of humor. He rewards hard work (so expect to work) and accountability (show up to class). Online: weekly hw, quiz every week (occasional pop quizzes), monthly tests. Everything was like hw/lecture. His lectures are recorded & clear. HIGHLY recommend, best math teacher I've had!

Great teacher for MATH 1C. Explains things clearly and has a hilarious dry sense of humor. He tries to keep his lectures engaging and offered some extra credit opportunities. Quizzes every class but messing up on a few won't kill your grade. The material itself is NOT EASY but if you put the time and effort in you'll love this class.

Took him for pre-cal. As someone who isn't good a math he explains things very well. He's pretty nice and will help you answer questions. Although we pretty much had a quiz everyday and he assigns a lot of hw, but he does offers EC (during my quarter) and exams were open notes.

Understanding professor. There is a quiz every class, but after the first one some students talked to him about not getting enough time and he changed the format for the other ones to make it easier on us. He also let us submit our work a bit after the test if we didn't get time to upload it. Class can be boring but always ended early. Take him.

There are 15-minute review quizzes every class, but they are based off the last lecture so you can usually find the answer. He is understanding as long as you communicate with him. His tests are similar to the homework. You need to upload work for tests, but he allowed us to email it to him after the test ended.

Took him for Math 1C. Didn't like his handwriting but loved the way he does his quizzes and exams! You will get an A easily as long as you do your work! There is nothing you've not seen on both quizzes and exams (review his lectures and hws). On top of that, he also gave 1 extra credit hw and 1 extra credit quiz. So, do the work and EASY A!

Quizzes before each class, 3 exams, 1 final. The lectures were very bland and he sometimes rushed over material. Quizzes, exams, and, final were all based off of sample tests, test reviews, and homework problems. Not really any trick questions compared to other professors, which is really nice. Very fair/little homework - only 15-30 problems a week

Very good professor, 15 min quiz every lecture day, it was hard at first, then I started to study for it and it become really easy. The exams are all based on the practice exam questions, so if you take some time and study for the exam questions, you will definitely pass it. He will always try to give you a high score, even if you got it wrong.

I've taken Professor Charles for both MATH1C and 1D and cannot recommend him enough. He is great at teaching the fundamental concepts and is very reasonable with homework and quizzes/exams. Homework is all on Cengage WebAssign and you will know exactly what to expect on quizzes and exams if you do all the work.

calc 1a: quiz heavy fs, quiz before every class. 3 midterms. such a kind soul, i had sm questions n i emailed him, he replied patiently and kind. sweet guy fs. lecture heavy ofc. explains very well, if u listen and put in work, ur good. obvious he cares for his students.

Easy class. Nice enough. Extended time on quizzes at popular request. Most students got A- or A. Very nitpicky on random things in grading, but tests and quizzes were easy-ish. Gave an extra credit quiz, but ended up including it as a regular quiz in grade calculation? Gave an actual extra credit homework. Curved final by 2pts. I got over 100%.

Generally relaxed and patient. Very reasonable and pleasant to speak with. Lectures are easy to follow, but if you read the textbook and do the homework first there's not much to learn during class. Quiz/test questions are pretty easy but have an intense time limit (slightly flexible). Slightly picky when answering questions, but nothing major.

Really great professor! He sets his class up for success and wants you to succeed. He goes over the test material and is really helpful in prep prior to the exams. I would definitely recommend his class.

Quizzes are frequent but manageable if you stay on top of the material. Exams are fair and based on practice problems. Lectures are a bit dry, but Unstuck study helped me prepare efficiently. Overall, a reasonable workload and a helpful professor.

He was too funny I swear. If you're someone sensitive to certain humor, I suggest taking another class. Professor was very helpful, direct and gave clear instructions. I love his class, my only mistake of getting a B+ was because I didn't do the homeworks (that is on me, I could've gotten A+ honestly). Take him!

Such a nice teacher! This was my first time taking a dual enrollment class at de anza and although I went through a couple difficulties at first he was super patient and helped me throughout the whole process!

I have had Professor De Vogelaere for Math 1A and 1B, and I have absolutely treasured him. He is a great, down-to-earth professor who wants you to succeed. For synchronous, attendance is "mandatory", but he doesn't actually check it. The homework is on WebAssign and can take up to an hour to finish sometimes. Great professor nonetheless! Take him!
