He's really sarcastic and plugs his band through class sometimes. He's really hot!
comes across as easy, tests aren't to hard, they don't require a lot of studying, but he grades the paper very hard, too hard. found errors in his notes. pretty cocky. if i could go back, i would not take this class again.
I learned much in this course. Great knowledge of theory especially conflict theory and Marxist theory. Very approachable.
He's a definite hottie. If you get bored in class (which you will) all you have to do is stare at him. His class is easy, tests are very straightforward.. cancels class alot. The only difficulty will be on the paper. Make sure you ask questions about it.
Hes A GREAT PROFESSOR Talks about his life all the time explains everything great
I like professors that have life experience and that tie it all in with the subject. This guy is hillarious! Very knowledgable and very kind. I learned a lot in his class. Grades fairly. Tests are good! IF like boring teachers then take someone else!!
Mr. Gray is very interesting in his opinions. His class is a little boring but his tests are very easy. As long as you read the chapters in the book you should do fine. His paper was a little difficult he expected alot but you can still get a passing grade. Overall I would take his class again.
Very Easy Class! I loved the class, he is very interseting!
This long haired hottie gets on a soap box daily to preach of social inequalities and also ties everything into research methods in an extremely relevent and entertaining manner. Hilarious, straight foreward, & nice to look at. He has nice arms and sometimes you can see a little bit of a tattoo showing that is such a teaser. Very Fair.I got an A.
boring lectures, the rest is okay...
I had him for 4 classes...one of the best teachers at ODU..he has a tendency to get off track sometimes..but he will keep your attention...cancels class a lot too :)
love his class
Probably my favorite prof at ODU. i've had him for several classes and there hasn't been one that wasn't awesome. if you come to class and get the notes and don't get an A, you are an incompetent ****. Plus he's easy on the eyes and cancels class a lot :)
I really think he is one of the sexiest people I have ever seen up close. But, beyond that, his class is not difficult. He knows what an "Intro" class should be like, and doesn't ask require much work. He also babbles on and on and wastes whole class periods. Did I mention he's hot? Oh, he is. He so is.
Gray knows that this is an Intro class and makes it easy as possible while still being able to learn alot. he gives out three exams and one paper. the exams arent that bad, he gives a very detailed review sheet before exams. i just highlighted whatever was on the guide in the book. plus hes really hott, so waking up early isnt all that bad. :)
Great class! He is really easy to deal with and super laid back. If I could take him again I would do it.....
A real laid-back teacher, he knows this is an intro class and doesn't try to make it too hard. If you just study the review sheets he gives out and pay attention in class you will do fine. He also makes the class pretty interesting, would definetly take him again for any class.
He is by far one of the best professors i've had at ODU! His outlook on society and his conflict perspective is a refreshing aspect of all his courses. His papers/projects are actually fun(if that's possible). He's really laid back and know's what he's talking about. You can't say that you've gotten a quality education until you've taken him!
Mr Gray is very engaging. He really wants his students to know how society is percieved and the system gets abused daily on a global level. Goes off on alot of tangents but he keeps class excitiing.
Prof. Gray is a great professor. Print the slides and fill them in from his powerpoint presentation. You can pass by just studying the slides no need to get the book. If need more clarity on something ask him or look it up online. He goes off on tangents so you don't cover everything on the syllabus which means it won't be on the test.
I really liked his class. PRof. Gray is very passionate about Sociology and teaching, and I think those are important characteristics for a professor. He teaches not only from the text book but combine history and politics to his lectures making it very interesting.
lovee him. he is hilarious and makes everyone laugh in class- just go fill in your notes and complete the study guide. I try to take every class with him that I can!
Nice guy, very easy going and can be very provocative and opinionated in his lecturing style. I enjoyed the class and would definitely take him again. The only caveat is that I found some of test questions to be heavily opinion driven, and could be somewhat ambiguous. It was a pretty interesting class though.
What can I say about Gray? He's a trip. He's young, goofy, engaging, and very easy-going. He often wanders in his lectures, but that makes for easy tests. For a writing intensive class I sure did a lot less writing than in my other classes--2 take-home tests, 2 papers. That's it! I expect to get an A, easily.
Prof. Gray has GOT to be absolutely the coolest professor that has ever walked the campus at ODU. He is totally knowledgeable about what he is teaching, and always calls on you. If you have a question, he doesn't make you feel stupid. And if you don't agree with his point of view, he is OK with that. If that were not enought, he is SMOKIN' HOT!
Interesting, went off subject at times but it made the class even more interesting. This was a writing intensive course, but he graded fairly. Great teacher, and not bad to look at either
If you're looking for an easy A take him however be prepared to go to class and get off topic frequently. Also don't mention your opinion about things in class unless it's from a Marxist view because you will immediately be wrong. Just take notes and study and it's an A.
Professor Gray has to be the smartest teacher at ODU. Very interesting class. He's very helpful and open for questions. Don't fool around or miss class because he does not like that. He's cool, but you have to be respectful of him, don't fool around because he's cool. Best teacher ever!
He's great a walking library. Anyone who says otherwise or criticizes is lying. He taught me a lot. I like Karl Marx bc of him. The dude is genius.
I don't see why other ladies fawn over him. He's not attractive and his pompous attitude overshadows any good qualities that he may possess. Don't expect to learn much from him. In class, his digressions are so frequent that you will forget what the subject is. I think he forgets too. Still, it's an easy A... if you like that sort of thing.
He misses class alot so your on your own. He forgets too.
One of the most interesting professors I've had at ODU! he's a really smart guy, knows a lot about the subject and other random things! Sometimes he gets off track and starts talking about other things but its all entertaining! Enjoyable class to attend, makes learning fun! He gives study guides that are EXTREMELY helpful, and we only had 1 paper!!
This was an online class. Had weekly readings from the book, but not bad. Only had 1 paper to write. And YES he's REALLY HOT!
I love professor Gray! He makes class so interesting with all the examples he uses explaining things, but sometimes he will go off track and start talking about the MOST random things! but its what makes the class interesting! Tests are online and its open book open note, but there essay questions. Theres one paper 8-10 pages.
Prof. Gray's teaching methods are overall good. This was a writing intensive theory class, so it was not a walk in the park- Attendance not mandatory, but go to class if you want the notes- Uses the Powerpoint 'fill in the blank' method- Three essay tests require heavy memorization- Standards for Research paper are demanding!
Class started off great, but as I got into it and had questions on research paper, I never had responses to my emails. Good class, very interesting, and easy, but don't expect any emails back!
I took him online. Heavy reading required. Weekly discussions & topic exercises were easy. Research paper weighed heavy on ur overall grade; graded them pretty harshly. He had an idea of what he wanted them to say & if u didn't do it that way... bad grade. I maintained an A all semester but ended up with a B after the research paper.
Easy class except for the paper. He does not give clear instructions. Tests are long and some questions are repeated.
Great teacher however class is not all easy. The DB's and exams are average, however the research paper is long and requires a lot of work. Had him last year for another class, and did not do as well as expected on the paper. I'm referencing a lot more this year so hopefully I'll do better. But overall great teacher!!
I loved him and this class was awesome!Research paper is long, but you have majority of the semester to work on it
Professor Gray is an awesome profesor and as far as responding to emails. He needs to respond regardless because it makes the students think he doesn't care. The research paper is the killler grade and please make sure you check it and not wait until the lastt minute to see if you have it.... It will cost you dearly.....
Professor Gray was warm, welcoming, and fun. Seems to really enjoy what he is teaching about and has incorporated many things to make the online experience seem more "normal". There is a lot of reading and the Research paper is in depth, but he puts everything that is required in the syllabus. I had no troubles emailing for further questions, too.
He is very helpful and attentive via email. Very patient about explaining your grades when you ask. All test question answers are in the textbook. His class is not very hard. Just do DB's, online timed multiple choice tests, and research paper and you will do fine.
Took his online class. Has 3 exams, 10 discussion Boards, and a research paper. I honestly think he wrote all these comments himself because he is in no way shape or form, hot, and especially not the smartest teacher in the CJ department. He is incredibly rude and pompous. Read the Wikipedia page on crime and the community and you will learn more.
Finishing his online class next week. You don't really need the book. 3 exams that are multiple choice, questions are surprisingly basic compared to the detailed HW in his lectures and journal articles. He can be surprisingly rude. Overall, he is not TERRIBLE but I would take someone else or a different elective if you have the choice.
This was an incredibly easy class. Everything is clearly laid out from the start. Do the weekly homework, study a little bit for the test, and make sure you do not procrastinate for the final paper! It is a beast. Professor Gray was very helpful and fast to respond with emails to any inquiries. Definitely would recommend!
Professor Gray is a great professor. He is very helpful with any questions you have. 3 exams, 1 ;8-10 page paper, and DB with response to two people. He covers so much material in his modules that you almost do not have to read. Test are pretty intense, 80 questions and typically covers 5 chapters. Overall, I would recommend him to anyone.
Took two of his online classes, if you do the discussion boards and read the book, you will do well on his tests. If you put in the work, you will do fine. I had no problem with attitude and found him to be helpful when needed.
Professor Gray is awesome!!! You won't be disappointed. Now that doesn't mean that he is an easy teacher. He really wants you to grasp what you read and apply it to understanding concepts. Always ask questions because he is there when you need the help! Homework is a nice exercise and so are the lectures. Paper is pretty long and tests are tough.
he was my first online class I took . he is very clear . he talks to us through emails and on the announcement part of blackboard almost everyday ! he grades everything in a timely manner . pretty easy . test are easy as well as long as you've read the material . BUY THE BOOK ! YOU NEED IT !! one long and paper 3 test .
I have taken him now for 3 classes & hope he is teaching future classes that I need. He covers a decent amount of material but is very helpful & understanding. Online classes-weekly discussion boards, tests are multiple choice/TF. One research paper. He knows the material and if you have any questions, he responds in a timely manner.
This class is okay, its your average sociology class all of his tests are online and other than that you have to write 2 papers that are only about 750 words. not difficult at all, it takes a little effort but an A is definitely possible.
Prof. Gray was by far one of the best online professors I've ever had. Taking him again in spring 2017 because his method of teaching really helped me understand the course materials better than a traditional lecture style class. 10 DB posts (last one he gave extra credit to everyone) 3 exams, one 8-10 page paper -wrote in one day & got 70%
Lectures in module form , not to long but just right, its audio lectures which is better than having heavy reading load. Textbook highly recommend(very helpful in test). Gives curves on test and light work load(DBs and test). At the end of semester there is a 8 page paper but he gives you a lot of time to complete assignments! easy A!
Took online course. Provides videos, mp3 of lectures and reminds you what is due every week! Expect to do DQs' once a week and reply classmates DQ as well. Two exams open book (60-80 questions!). Only thing worry about is research paper. Worth ALOT points! He will proof read the paper if sent week in advance. He really wants everyone to do well!
Please just look at the last 3 comments-he writes all of his own-the writing style is all the same-NOT HOT (LOOK HIM UP). He is rude even through an online class. Tests are long but not hard-have the book. Try taking it with a different professor if you can
He is the "BEST" Sociology, Criminal Justice professor at ODU and totally fair with his grading :) Take him, you will not regret it at all. He makes learning so great and gives great interesting topics to learn about in his courses. TAKE HIM FOR ALL YOUR major COURSES.
BEST ONLINE SOCIOLOGY, CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROFESSOR EVER :) TAKEEE HIMM!!
Took him for all my sociology and criminal justice courses, BEST PROFESSOR EVER!! TAKE HIM:)
Only 10 Discussion Boards, 3 Exams, and 1 Final 10-15 page research paper! TAKE HIM :)
The course is broken down into 10 discussion boards, 3 tests, and 1 paper. He is extremely willing to help you learn and provide feedback for you. If you stay updated with the reading/lectures (and study), an A is very doable. Write your paper early and send it to him for feedback! It really helps!! I ended up with an 100% on mine. Great course!
I read everyones feedback on here and still took him. Overall, I enjoyed his class. We had three tests, a research paper (long but not hard), and everything was laid out in order. DQ's and responses required every week expect on testing weeks (if online). I would recommend him, especially online too! :) He responds back quickly and gives good info!
Dr. Gray is a great professor and very caring individual. He is very current and knowledgeable. I would take any class he is teaching.
He was a great online professor! He told you EXACTLY what he expects and outlined the course to perfection! For an online class, it was very interesting. I actually read the book, and learned a lot. This class is not hard at all. Use proper time management, and put in the effort. Easy A!
He's the best online professor I've had at ODU. His teaching style is great, I learned so much. I ACTUALLY read the book, and I hate reading L O L! TAKE HIM.
Dr. G is a wonderful online professor. He explains everything in detail, you should rarely get confused. Purchase the book b/c it will help on you DQ questions, test, and paper. Start the paper early, and thoroughly answer is DQ questions. His classes are very interested, and moderately easy. Do the work, put in the effort, & you'll get an A.
I recommend every class he teaches at ODU. Great professor.
If you're looking for an easy A elective, look no further. Tests are open book/open note and on top of that he curves them! Only other grades are easy discussion boards and one 8 page paper. I literally wrote mine in three hours max and got a 100%.
Tests are open book and discussion questions are a joke, only real assignment all semester is the research paper. He sends WAY too many e-mails and yet he can't be bothered to give feedback all semester then suddenly on the paper he decides he's an English major and knows more about APA formatting than the guidelines. He is extremely arrogant.
He acts like he's doing you a huge favor by working with personal situations, even drastic emergencies. He's a very liberal teacher and the book is even worse, gives you his CV as if we are supposed to be impressed all you did was research and go to school and not spend one day ACTUALLY working in the criminal justice field.
Amazing professor, this is my second time taking him. His class is very interesting, and the work is an easy A! No reason not to pass this class. He's very active and often sounds out reminders so you can literally never miss an assignment.
Well explained expectations. provides weekly reminders via email. curves exams, offers extra credit
This teacher is probably one of the best ODU has and that's saying a lot. He genuinely cares about students, sends reminders frequently, and gives you feedback . Very easy class, 1 8-page paper which is easy to do also. If you fail this class, you are simply lazy. It should be an easy A.
1 paper that is 8 pages, read the book, easy discussion boards that he wants straight forward answers with no minimum response, I'm taking him again.
Took online summer course. 10 discussion boards. No minimum word requirement! Weekly readings. 3 exams (open book). 8 page research paper (normally 16 pages). Everything is super easy except the research paper. Start it early because it's time consuming. Gives clear instructions & good feedback. Late work not accepted. Would definitely take again.
This was my second time this professor, Read and study is basically it. He is very helpful and there are quizzes and 3 exams and of course a one 8 page paper which was super easy. He will help you in any way he can. If I could take him I would for every single of my classes!
He is a great professor. In his class not less than B. There is a big paper from 10 to 12 pages. Send the paper to him and he will fix it fir you. His exams are easy but the essays in the exams you have to study for them. Most of his exams are multiple choice and about 7 essays. Overall a great professor. Not to much work.
This professor is extremely inappropriate. He doesn't explain any of the content, rather talks about off topic things and puts slides on the board. He'll also put things on the test that aren't explained in class. It's open note tests and only a few assignments, he is just arrogant and doesn't teach.
He is very open minded and tries his best to explain everything in detail & by using personal experiences . The tests were reasonable & always open note, he also never gave homework so hugeeee plus ! His class is pretty easy, & as long as you take notes on the PowerPoints you should pass with an A !
Not a tough class. Weekly assignment was only a discussion board. No midterm or final, but a 4-6 page research paper. 80 question quizzes every few weeks, but they are pretty easy if you do the readings. However, there is lots of reading every week; about 50 pages a week. Professor Gray always responded within an hour or two when I sent an email.
By far one of the coolest professors at ODU! Homework is super simple and easy and he provides feedback on all assignments, especially the final paper. Great communication. He always responded to my emails within an hour or two. Lots of reading every week along with quizes every few weeks. Take this class with Professor Gray; you won't regret it!
Couldn't refer his classes enough! Three tests, one research paper, ten random attendance checks, and pizza & review day for the final class of the semester. Not super difficult but takes work. He is very passionate about his class and super easy to talk to. He is funny and understanding. 10/10 recommend him to anyone taking criminological theory!
Dr. Gray will talk your ear off, but he is a great professor. His lectures are pretty dry, but the material itself is fascinating and he is incredibly entertaining. One word and he will go on a tangent, but he gives clear expectations and his material is easy to understand. His quizzes are more reading heavy though, do not rely just on lecture.
I took this course online and he was by far one of my favorite professors of the semester. He sends out regular announcement reminders on Canvas and seems like he cares about his student's success. You do need to actually read the textbook and understand the material to do well on the quizzes, but as long as you do that you'll be fine.
This will be reposted for 215S as well. Professor Gray was amazing. He provides great feedback and offers you the opportunity to improve on it. It appears that his discussions are open for the entire semester so it makes it easy for adult learners like myself to read ahead and get the homework and research paper out of the way.
I would recommend looking at other general electives to take. I was wrongfully accused of using AI on a paper. In order to prove my innocence, I provided my Google Docs version histories and other various supporting materials. I was able to prove my innocence in the end due to escalating the situation in order for my research paper grade to change.
