Grogg is great. Funny yet demanding Grogg gets the most out of his students. A hard grader on essays, but fair.If you enjoy writings his class is a breeze. Grogg will take personal time to help improve your understanding of the material. A+ in my book. Work hard and he will be an A+ in yours.

Great class, but he's a hard grader.. Pretty much, a majority of your grade rests on the scores of 4 essays (2 + a midterm and final essay) which he grades pretty tough, but he REALLY helps you along throughout the class. You'll learn a lot from him and if you aren't super lazy it shouldn't be bad!

Awesome guy. Just all around good person. I learned so much in this course and was exposed to writers I never would have read otherwise. Take him for anything if you have the chance.

Loved the class! Grogg is hilarious and i had a fun time going to class. We were able to talk about things that we were reading about, but it wasnt super boring because a lot of it was indirectly related to the text ane helped us get the concepts. 3 essays, 1 in-class essay which is your final. He makes you work for your grade.

He is so funny, He is easy to approach for the most part, if you are struggling at all you should definetly go to his office after hours he can be helpful, and I learned if you need an extension on a paper email him and call his office and leave a message. trust me he's the best english teacher out there and he's grate and involving the students.

Grogg's class is entertaining, inspiring, insightful, most of all hilarious, and sometimes downright vulgar. His lecture comes off as a insult-comic routine. Grogg is not chained to the traditional teaching methods. Word to the wise: You will get a verbal beat-down if Grogg senses fear, over-confidence or incompetence. Keep your wits about you.

English 111 is hard work here, lots of reading of nearly indiciperable works but Grogg makes it doable and his humor goes a long way when your thinking of giving up.

The reading and essays assignments were definitely a drag, he's a hard grader but he let me re-write one of my papers which was nice, absolutely hilarious and is a very intelligent guy, recommend him if english is easy for you!

Grogg really knows his stuff. I looked forward to coming to class everyday just to see what we would talk about. There's a decent amount of reading assignments which are discussed as a class the following day. There are a few big essays to write but he helps every step of the way and breaks everything down to help. Great sense of humor.

Grogg is a crack up, he makes class very fun. It is hard to leave his class in a bad mood, but watch out he grades rough, and without a real clear reason behind it. He does not ask for a ton of work to be done for the semester. Overall very funny/ nice guy, but when it comes to grading he can be really unpredictable.

I had him for 110 and 111, he is a bit of a heavy grader on the essays and the tests, but you have reading journals that are basically an automatic 8-9/10 points to pad your grade a little. Grogg is a great professor. There's hardly any HW, but when there is, do it correctly. Only a few essays over the semester, which he gives plenty of time to do. Participation is key to getting an A in his class; if you have something to say, say it! But I wouldn't take this class if you need someone to hold your hand while writing an essay.

Prof Grogg has the caliber of knowledge and expertise in his discipline, coupled with his incessant energy, that commands students' attention. He delivers what was to me a very intense yet enthralling three hours each week.

I've taken English 110 online with Professor Grogg, as well as 111 in person. I love this man, but I don't recommend taking him online. He's a little vague with his assignments. In class, however, he's fantastic. Super funny, very good at getting students to participate. That said, make sure you make the attempt to participate!

Everything you need is straight from his textbook and it's brilliant. He recognizes good writing and leaves clear input on the good and bad parts of each essay (6 total). You can post a sample or a whole essay before it's due for peer reviewinput and he will comment too. Questions are answered in the online forums. Best English prof I've ever had.

Grogg is probably one of the coolest teachers I have ever had. All you have to do to do well in his class is attend, speak up, and do the readings. A huge chunk of your grade is for participation and once you participate and engage with him you will really enjoy the call. But he doesn't put up with bull, if you don't read, you wont pass.

Best English teacher I've ver had. My first english class in college, and I learned the most I've ever learned. Midterm and Final is very easy, but he can be a bit tough on grading the essays. If you listen to his criticism, you will improve. Show up to every class, read what he assigns, and be a participant when he asks questions. Very cool dude.

He gives you a lot of freedom on how to write your papers, he doesn't give you a basic map to follow on how to write you paper, which surprisingly helps you become a better writer. He doesn't hold you hand through out each paper, but if you need his help going to his office hours helps a lot. He's there to pass you not to fail you.

Not restirictive in your writing and is a fair grader. Participation in class lectures are worth more than you think. He won't force you to ask questions so if you have them speak up. When I had questions on anything he always gave a great explanation and if you wanted a brief overview of your paper while developing it he will do it no problem.

GROGG IS A HOMIE ! There are around 5 Essays, including midterm/final. Easy books! Come to class (prepped or not) and you'll have a grand old time. My class consisted of INSPIRATIONAL and PASSIONATE lectures. A kid eating his notes LITERALLY. A never ending stream of Grogg's black V-necks EVERYDAY. Snacks, snacks, snacks. Laughs, laughs, laughs.

At first I was doing really bad in the class getting a D on my first paper and then a D on the midterm, but I started to talk to him during class and my grade started to go up. I sadly passed with a B, so if there is any opportunity for extra credit then take it. Participation is crucial so make sure you have something to say. Charles Grogg is a great professor. I took his class for ENG 110 & ENG 111. He is a fair grader and if you show up to class, do the readings and participate you will do just fine. Just had him for a summer class and hands down the best teacher I have had. Yes you have to read, yes there are papers but the reading was interesting and really got me to think outside the box and from other perspectives. His class is fully discussion based and participation really matters but it was easy to attend class and want to participate.

Best English professor I've ever had. If you struggle with his grading take your papers to the writing center before turning them in. This is a class you can actually learn from. Professor Grogg Absoluetly ROCK... He's an intellect and encourages his students to dig in and think deep! Most students take his critisms as being tough but he actually means well! Classes were very interesting and always a group discussion, kind of like a big Socratic every day. He's pretty funny and is always cracking jokes. You will be graded on participation AND attendance, which were the differences between me getting an A and a B because he is a hard grader. So don't be late, read the books, and speak your mind.

I took Professor Grogg's English 111 class and my entire outlook on the college English class was completely changed. Instead of lecturing, his classes are more of an open dialogue between the class and himself. There are 3-4 essays throughout the semester (including the in-class mid-term). 100% recommend taking his class. You'll actually learn!!!

Honestly, I thought I was the worst at writing papers until I took his class. He's not that tough of a grader imo. My downfall though was the participation. I'm a shy, quiet person so I barely participated in class and my grade dropped for it. Be ready to discuss and share your writing with the entire class. He picks people at random to talk.

I really enjoyed Professor Grogg's Eng 111 class. The class was online but Professor Grogg was great about being available to help and give insight to your progress. He is definitely not an easy grader, but is fair, and awards hard work. I became a much better writer throughout his course. Give him your attention, and you will succeed.

This might have been the best professor/teacher I've ever had for English. He had great energy (especially for the morning), was super forward, and funny. He made poetry actually interesting to read and gave a ton of time for essays. On top of that, participation in class gives you extra points on essays. Overall a great guy

I enjoyed Professor Groggs online class, mostly because it gave me more time to spend on other classes. Interestingly, I scored higher on essays where I was profane in some way. So make of that what you will. The online format was good, although the experience would be much more enriching in person.

His discussions were engaging and helped me understand difficult material. The class is reading heavy and I would recommend taking the class if you are committed to showing up, otherwise you'll miss a lot. That being said, if you are a confident writer and comfortable participating, he will notice and he awards hard work and standout writing.

Professor Grogg has been one of my favorite professors at SBCC! He made every lecture interesting, and always made everyone laugh. The key to success in his class is definitely frequent participation. He just wants to hear what you think, even if it's silly. If you use ChatGpt on his essays, he will destroy you.

I took this professor's online summer class, and he was a fantastic English teacher. He believed in me and accommodated me when I was having a hard time, and his feedback helped improve my writing immensely. While this class does have lots of work, the material we read was very interesting, and you won't find yourself bored while doing the work.

I'm not the greatest at writing but I took this class over the summer and it wasn't even that bad. Feedback is definitely limited, but if you just sit down and do the work you'll be fine it's not hard at all.
