He taught me lessons that I would not have realized in anyone else's class!

I have had Mr. Harkins the last semsester, with COM 101 and COM 102. He is very boring, and just talks about anything and everything, but over all he's not that bad of a teacher.

I had him for Com. 101 and 102. He was tougher on me I felt because I was an English major. His expectations were hard to meet.

Great teacher!!!he is also very helpful. All work in his class is open book take home!!!How can you go wrong with that?

I took him for a summer class and he didn't make us do a crazy amount of work. He even gave us TAKE HOME EXAMS and let us do them in the library in groups--he would go from group to group and help us with the answers. Easy for a Comp class, and he's nice.

Harkins is a good teacher. He tells you exactly what he wants and is sure to make sure the workload is the right amount. i took a summer class and we did a lot but never too much. he's nice

I would recommend him. Tells you exactly what you have to do for everything. A lot of essays but that what the class is for.

Very clear and concise. If you ask questions he will help you out. If you appeared to not have been listening he will call you out. I loved this class and it was very easy to get an A in.

very easy teacher, gives easy essays that u work on in class and he reviews them in a 1 on 1 conference. go to class and do the essays and easy hw and you get an A. only bad thing about him is that he rambles on & on. great guy though!!

Nice guy.A fair amount of homework and essays. He's a bit boring and I usually struggle to stay awake in class. But,like everyone else said it's really easy to get an A if you hand in all of the assignments. Also,if you don't miss more than 4 classes he gives you ten extra points to your final grade

Mr. Harkins is a wonderful teacher....he has a point system that he goes by, that is a wonderful asset to what points you need, to pass the class. An easy A. I had him in COM 101-102 and he is very helpful...He kind of talks like Pooh Bear, but he his excellent

He was a lot of work but it is worth it. The knowledge you receive from Professor Harkins you will use over and over again throughout the college experience. He gives extra credit and you can turn 3 assignments in late. He encourages study gropus and he can even be in your study group.

He is a wonderful teacher. Sometimes the class is boring because he talks like Pooh Bear, and it and it makes you sleepy. Other than that, he is wonderful professor. He goes through a point system which is wonderful asset, and also provides extra credit work in the assignments. He takes time out for you. In both COM 101 & 102 I got an A.

Very good teacher! Gives good examples, pretty much tells you everything you will need to do! Not much homework at all, just a lot of papers, but they are really easy and they are broken down into parts. All you have to do is show up, pay at least a little bit of attention, hand in your papers, and you will pass!

Harkins is a good teacher! its alot of work but easy on the most part, as long as you hand in all your work your sure to get an A.

I really like him. I had him for COM 101 as well. He made writing easier with the way he teaches it. It is hard but he challenges you.

He is a super nice guy, but he piles it on like no other.

i took him for 101 and he was awesome, at least to me. so i took him for 102 and he was horrible, he lets you kno in the very beginning that ur all at least 2nd yr students and should be able to handle a lot, 102 he gives u take home tests but the last test i found that he took the questions straight from sparknotes.com,he keeps u til the very end

harkins gave more work for me in this one class than my three other classes combined! he's definately a challange for all of the writing homework assignments, but if it's worth all of the writing, it's worth the challange.

A very challenging summer course. At first, I was ready to drop out. By the end of the course, I came to truly respect this man and his knowledge. A ton of writing and alot of reading, but the tests were pretty easy. There were opportunities to improve your grade if you struggled. Take his advice - form a study group with other students ASAP.

He is an ex marine and hard. He grades hard and not even for good reason, the first homework assignment was to fix 10 sentences and most people got D's. Dont take him!

He's a tough teacher. He gives out way too many assignments. He grades the essays hard. There is a lot of reading. He is very boring and having him early in the morning doesnt help. I couldnt stand it anymore and had to drop the class.

I think he is a very good teacher. Obviously though I agree with everyone else on how much work he gives. He does give a lot of work but it is a college class. I think hes the best Com teacher I've had thus far and hes very helpfull. Unlike his fellow teachers he doesn;t make you feel stupid for asking a questin.

he was hard if u were lazy. ALWAYS there for help at anytime...even gave us his phone #. really clear: i.e. tells u exactly how to do the thesis for each paper. kinda boring n repeats too much stuff. its ok if u skip a few classes...u won't miss much besides stupid jokes. sorta picks on u if u ask stupid questions, but its in good taste.

I think that he is a great techer. I highly recommend taking his class, i have learned more from him then any other teacher.

He's a good teahcer, however; he is extremly hard and gives you lots of work. My class had to do a summary and it was only the first class. This indricates that you will have lots of work for the semester. He loves pop quizzes and gives you SEVEN!!!

yes, he is hard, but you actually LEARN. He gives a lot of essays but helps you out with each one of them. Tells you exactly how he wants them, helps you out with thesis, and gives you opportunity to meet with him to revise each essay..He is really sweet old man..doesnt care about attendance, just meet with him on essays and youll do GOOD :)

Easyyyyyy. Thinking about taking him for 102. Only problem are the slackers that don't do their work (probably the people complaining) because they don't help at all during the peer review.

Very tough teacher took him for a summer class. There was a homework assignment almost every day but it was expected.I enjoyed the literary visions and reading articles by critiqes and writting reviews it helped me to understand the story more than previously.I do agree his grading system for assignments is crazy i thought i handed in As and Got Bs

I'd recommend him if you're there to learn. He isn't easy, and he's way too snarky. However, by the end of his COM101 class you'll be prepared for COM102. You'll also be taught methods to research information and do projects that will carry you for a long time, both in and out of the classroom.

Mr Harkins is a great teacher. He's fun and willing to sit with you until you get it right. The only thing that I didn't care for are the peer reviews - in some aspects it's helpful but I could have done with out it. Quizzes at times were hard, thought they were open book but it really doesn't affect your grade too much if you get an F/D on them.

He is a great teacher. He will teach you what you need to know. If you want to slack off and aren't interested in actually learning, pick someone else. HW every day. High expectations. No big deal if you're an eng major. :) I like him.

great teacher*very nice* understanding* grades reasonably* teaches the material* makes it fun to come to class because he's always in a good mood* or he was when i took him, 6 yrs ago! *as long as you try he works with you to help you learn.

I thought he was great, really helpful, very nice, funny & all around great teacher. The homework work load was reasonable for a college course, I thought & the essays/papers weren't that hard. not too sure what the people on here were complaining about. Must be the slackers :)

Great teacher. A lot of homework but its a college class so get over it. If your having trouble you can always go to him for help. He will read your papers and help you improve them for a good grade. A lot of papers but over all a good class

I really enjoyed this professor. Aside from his Vietnam flashbacks and his nonstop talk of sexual fetishes, I found his class to be extremely easy. However, bring your book otherwise he will make you stand in the front of class pull down your pants and tweez your pubic hair out one by one. But, other than that he's a great teacher!!

Prof Harkins is a very nice teacher. I enjoyed his class which is funny because I usually can't stant English classes. His homework is clear cut and I did learn something. He is a really helpful teacher, however he insults ur intelligence and is rather rue. He doesn't have much faith in his students. VERY tough grader, but its college...overall he is an okay teacher, but don't take his class if you don't know your commas or just dont care about english and grammer

This class was hilarious. He is a great teacher. Says the funniest stuff sometimes. Theres only 4 essays you have to write 6 quizzes, and rarely homework. All quizzes are open notes/book. The work may seem annoying but he only wants to help the students. I really enjoyed all his effort and trying for every student to do well. Loves to give A's!

Professor Harkins is a great all around teacher! He gives a lot of homework, but all of his assignments are clear cut. He is a nice teacher and really loves to give out A's!

My first semester I thought he was hard and didn't like me. I realized I had to stop being a baby and just do the work. He wasn't picking on me , he was trying to teach me. I had him for 102 too and I have to say I learned the most from his class out of all my classes. You would be a fool nit to take him. Every test is open book/notes.

You would be doing yourself a disservice by not taking an English class with Professor Harkins. He does not "hand-out" grades, but he gives you everything you need to write on a college level. He has a good sense of humor and is a decent human being. Do your work, show up to class, and participate. You'll be fine.

His classes were entertaining and easy. He never assigned pointless work and he is a very good teacher. He wants his students to pass.

This man cares a lot about his students and their success. Yes, his class is difficult, but if you take it seriously, you will truly benefit.

All quizzes are open book and notes. He's really clear in teaching how to go about writing each paper, which is nice, but can be boring if you already know what you're doing, since attendance is mandatory. He's a talker for sure, but I never minded it. He knows what he's doing. Do the homework and the papers and you'll be fine. DO NOT COMMA SPLICE!

I've heard quite a few complaints about Harkins, but overall he is a good teacher. His grading is a bit tough, but he just wants to teach his students how to write a proper essay. Plus, he is always available for instructor conferences and will tell you exactly what you can do to improve your writing. And his sarcasm is hilarious!

Great teacher who really cares about his students! I had him for english 101. Pretty good at sarcasm. He is a VERY difficult grades but will help you if you ask for it. Great for English majors and teachers. You NEED to attend his class. All quizzes are open book and fairly simple. There are no tests, only essays and one oral presentation.

He's a great teacher, and hes always there if you have questions. "Any questions, hassles, hangups?" is what he says after every class! PEER REVIEW IS A MUST or your essay grade will be lowered a letter. He does have appointments that you can attend to go to his office and have him proof read your essay before its done. Only quizzes. He has been the biggest inspiration in my life. He's such a good hearted man who will make you work your grade. At first you will be intimidated by the hard work he puts you through but you will realize how very worth it the entire class is. He cares for his students. Harkins knows what he is talking about. This was about his 70th semester or something close to it. He gives a lot of homework, and won't except it late (unless you use the one-time pass). There was only one test, the final, but there was three essays. He takes attendance every day, and will take points off. But, he is always willing to help you out

During the semester you will hate him but after you leave the class you will love him. He is an amazing guy but a tough grader. Do not expect to get a 100 on any of his essays. You need to try hard or you will not pass!!!

He is a hard grader but once you hit all the points he wants you to hit you'll be fine! You HAVE to be in class or you will not pass! He is one of my favorite professors would take him again!

He is a great professor, he cares a lot about his students. There is a lot of homework, but it is not hard. Make sure to apply the corrections he gives you on your essay, and you will be satisfied with your grade. Easy grade if you do the work. Make sure to show up to class.

He's very caring and He will understand but don't skip its not worth is just go to class actually do the work and you just can't be lazy. Btw He's a Cardinals fan so for any future present ideas.
