Love, love, love this teacher. He is such a nice man and he is very funny. Makes hard concepts easy to understand and is extremely helpful..def take him. :)
He was an alright guy, but cannot teach. At all. I didn't find him helpful.
the professor is a really nice guy. his tests mostly come from his presentations, so make sure you memorize everything that's in bold print. one good thing is that he let's you drop one of the four test grades. the labs were a little challenging and required some work, but his main goal is to get you to understand the concepts.
Dr. Hicks is a very helpful, considerate and fun professor. The BEST. He makes difficult concepts easy to understand by breaking it down into simple, intuitive and fun ideas. His exams and quizzes is to make you understand that Science does not depend on made up computations but rather on consistency with previously held mathematical principles.
you just have to know your stuff and if you need help go to his office hour and he'll help you. his a very nice guy and his ready to work with you
THE BEST. THE GREATEST. Don't get me wrong, you still have to study but try to get at least B's in your test simply because you want to give him something to work with. It's extremely difficult for a D+ average on tests to go to a B grade than a B to an A grade.
he means well..hes a nice person..but he cant really teach to be honest...
I think that Mr. hicks is a sweetheart but can also be a bit sarcastic sometime. He really care about his student and know his stuff so i would recomend anyone to take him. he's cute too
professor hicks is an OK guy. he is very helpful if you ask him anything. his exams come right from the homework. be careful he does not think your cheating. he thought I was in the first exam and he seemed to get really annoyed.
Nice professor, took him over the summer for weekend classes, 4 multiple choice exam, and u done, he drop the lowest score, if u do better in final.
amazing class. learned a lot. great prof
Proffesor Hicks might be the worst teacher i have ever had. Yes he is very smart and knows his stuff but he was horrid. I am a good student and I was actually excited about taking chemistry but I absolutely hate it now. I love to learn and get excited about class but I have to say I learned nothing in his class. He is sarcastic and mean.
he is a gud prof..know the stuff well..just study lecture notes and homework.. i got an A..he will ask quest from homework problms..
He can't teach.
This guy is awesome. I'm an engineering student so Chemistry isn't my main focus. However, he makes class interesting and wants you to grasp the material. It's Chemistry at a community college, not rocket science. Pay attention and maybe you'll learn something. I HIGHLY recommend Professors Hicks. OUTSTANDING teacher!!!
this guy has kind of an atitude that all of his students are idiots. I thought 132 was supposed to be easy that's why took it at nassaw but he was really hard. I cant say he was unfair exactly but he make it like too hard for a 100 level class.
first when I came inside the class I thought he was two nice but then when he gave me the first test and I saw it I thought no I guess not and that I have better to get out of this class. Honestly, he just axes to many chemistry questions.
he was the nicest professor that ever failed me.
GREAT Professor. You. have. to. do. your. homework. You. have. to do. the. work. If you want to do well. He's fair and very considerate. If he sees you trying. The school also has the Chemistry Lab so you can get help. Really, it's not that hard to get an A in his class.
he is not easy. he gives a lot of HW but the tests come right from the HW. He does not care if you miss some lectures.
Lectures are really boring but if you just study the lecture packet, which he gives you, and do the homework, which is a lot, and you will pass with an A. He will also explain things a billion times if you ask him to. Doesn't mind if you miss a couple of lectures.
he is an awesome professor,he is extremely nice, lots of hw and all the test comes straight from it,
he seems like a nice guy but he gives a lot of homework and collects it. if you miss the one problem he picks for grading he will give you a zero!
this guy is f-ing serious about chemistry he goes on and on and no one knows he is talking about.
GREAT Professor! Doesnt mind explaining things till you understand over and over again, loves what he does. Very fair in his grading he gives you a chance to pull up your grades in other ways if your not a good test taker. Everything he tells you to do benefits you when you takes his test.
Not helpful when you ask a question, sometimes laughs and gives a sarcastic remark. Don't take him if you have a choice.
Great as a lecturer really knows his stuff - tests are hard and the final is cumulative but he curves.
He is sarcastic sometimes and definitely not easy. I would take him if you really want to learn but not if you need easy A. He does drop one test if you can do OK on his final.
Best chemistry professor! I wish I had him for all my chem classes. Very patient and always gives reviews before his exams. True that he is not easy but he is a really good teacher.
Professor Hicks is wonderful! He can be sarcastic at times but who cares!? He's not there to be your best friend or future lover, sheesh. Chemistry is extremely difficult for me but he spoon feeds you the material. Tests are difficult but if you do the homework and ask him questions, you will get a good grade! I got a B and despise chemistry.
The best! He is the best professor I have ever had. Well organized, patient, fair, sometimes even funny. Take him. You will not regret it.
I think he's very funny and I appreciate his intelligence. He knows what he is talking about it and makes it interesting which are important qualities in a professor.
Lets face it, Chemistry is hard. Prof. Hicks explains things with short cuts so you will have to ask him to slow down but he will give you many opportunities to get it right. With any Chem class If you fall behind you will fail so don't. His sense of humor is dry and subtle but thats what keeps the class interesting. Overall good professor.
Honestly, by the time the semester was over only a quarter of the class stayed. Couldnt stand him because I felt like he rushed when he lectured us and I had no clue what he was talking about, and if you ask a q, he answers it by saying exactly what he just said. RUN.
This professor is genuine and really cares a lot about his students. He works hard on his powerpoints to organize the material in a clear way and even prints out a copy for each student. He goes over plenty of examples in his ppts which are almost like his test questions. If you're too lazy to study his ppts, then your a slacker wasting time and $.
Horrible. All he does is read his slides, scripple on the board and mumbles. Doesn't explain anything. Could tell that he is very smart, just not a good teacher. Do not take him if you can help it.
great professor. knows his stuff and very kind.
Great prof. Sometimes confusing but will clarify if u ask him to. Do homework and study his slides and you will get good grades. Go to his office hours or stay after class if he doesn't have another class. Very helpful. Does mumble sometimes but will repeat himself if you ask. Great guy overall. Study old tests for cumulative final
the best
its not an easy class but if you try hard you make it. Do the homework. it really helps
I really live this proffesor. Very helpful and you can tell he has so much passion for teaching and chemistry. This is my first chemistry class I am taking and Hicks has made the class very interesting. You have to study but iisn't that the point of school, to learn . I wish he taught other courses as he is a funny and down to earth.
absolutely one of the best at ncc. very helpful and you can see he really loves chemistry. If you are a good student who likes to learn he is your guy. Don't expect an easy A but I can guarantee if you study, do all the h.w., than you will be fine. I cant believe he got bad reviews on her maybe from the lazy students. I have a few in my class.
Best chem teacher I've ever had. Spends time on his slides, does examples in class, and doing homework helps on exams. A lot of people in my class struggled but if you and chem get along, you'll be fine. Got an A. Take him.
he gives a lot of HW, he is kind of sarcastic, but he was a nice guy if you go to his office to ask a question. So nice I could not believe he failed me.
He wasn't clear enough in what was gonna be on the exams wouldn't even give you a hint he was a nice guy though but confusing definitely wouldn't recommend him
He's a really nice guy, but a confusing teacher... He's an easy grader. I taught myself most of the semester and got a B+ but I really wanted that A...
He is a great teacher. Anyone that says he is a bad professor is just lazy. He is very clear and straightforward. His exams are not easy but are taken right from the HW.
I liked him. The class is very hard so you have to put in work but he really does care about his students. In the end the final is what can really save you and its basically just the 3 test put together in different words. Make sure you do the homework and go to the learning center and you should pass. I got a B
Good professor if you really want to learn the stuff. Hard but fair. Vey helpful if you ask a question or go to his office.
Great professor
This teacher is the best I've ever had, I looked forward to his class because he is funny and makes chemistry interesting. If you really want to learn and enjoy a class take him
Good prof. not easy but tests taken from HW and gives review before exam.
Good professor if you really want to learn the stuff. Hard . Vey helpful if you ask a question
This guy breathes chemistry, and other science related stuff. Give a lots of interesting scientific tidbits here and there. Overall, a pretty stand up guy. If you want to do well in his class, try to review upcoming lectures before hand, and make good use of chemistry help center. Your grade will reflect the work you've put in.
Professor Hicks is the epitome of chemistry nerd - I mean that with all the respect. He loves it. Exams are taken straight out of the lectures so the homework is actually harder than the exams. Use the help center, but he answers any and all questions - even the ones you didn't ask. Very chill and fair lab prof too.
Great professor. Read his PowerPoints, do the homework, and go to the chemistry help center and you will pass. You have to put the time in. His test are pretty fair. There are no surprises everything he goes over. You will learn a lot. Also you don't need the text book although he assigns homework out of it, you can go to the help center.
He's awesome. He makes chemistry u retesting and fun. Not daunting like other prof. He explains in a way where you can understand. He is a pretty fair grader. You will have homework everyday for every lecture. The homework really helps out. There are no surprises on exams he teaches everything on test. His labs are fun. Take him you won't regret it
He's an amazing professor. He reads off the slides, but he goes on to explain what he means. Every question problem on the slides is what is on the test. I hate chemistry. If you work for your grade and that means study and practice, and pay attention in his lectures you'll do great. He really explains everything. Hicks is great professor.
Overall I thought Prof. Hicks was a great professor. Chemistry was a struggle for me, but I used my resources- went to the Chem lab, hired a private tutor. I worked my butt off and put the work in, and I truly believe that if you do that, you will get an A. He's a nice guy and always available for extra help. Work hard, you will get through it.
I took Professor Hicks for General Chemistry. Being that Chemistry is a hard subject on its own, if you do the work and study you'll be able to pass. He is really nice but sarcastic. Gives homework that adds up to a test grade which can work in your benefit if you fail a test. Study and do the work and you'll be sure to pass. I'd 100%take him again
Def best prof in chem department!
nice guy. very clear. tests are just like the homework. curbs tests if they are real lo.
The class is easy to pass as long as you read the chapters before class and stay up on the suggested homework. Thats all you need to do is read the chapters required before hand and dont Slack off on doing the homework youtube helps if you dont understand. Hes a lenient grader especially in the labs.
He's a great professor - I like that he does review for exams the lecture before the test day and he'll never tests you on materials that he hasn't gone over in class. He gives a good amount of homework, but as long as he sees that you've answered all questions, you should easily get a 100 on all of them.
Professor Hick's makes chemistry as easy as possible for the average college student. If you show up to class, pay attention, & write down all of the problems, you will succeed. His tests consist of the exact questions he goes over in class (just different numbers). He also counts all of your homework as one test grade which is an easy 100!
Hes terrible at explaining the work. and is all over the lace. you can barely hear when he speaks.
Great teacher. Tests would be hard if you did not do HW but easy if you did. very nice and fair.
Not easy but Very fair and clear
good prof. I am gonna take him for the next course.
take him if you have to take chem. he is the best choice for chem at Nassau
second time I took 132 and I took him this time and got a B. He is really easy in lab and the exams are just like the problems he does and the HW.
hes ok for chemstry
He is a very nice professor. All the professors in med tech are but he is the funniest and his jokes help you remember stuff about blood chemistry.
Prof Hicks might be the best teacher ever. I am totally NOT a chemistry person and he explained things so clearly. He does give HW to help prepare you for his tests. The tests are really similar to his lecture so go to class and pay attention. He does do review sessions and if you don't understand something he'll explain it again. Kinda funny too.
How he explains both lab and lecture is very simple as far chem goes. he helps you go through the process after being taught. If you do the homework you will ace the exams. In Labs he is just a great professor with explanation and help remind you of a formula variable if needed.
Prof. Hicks is amazing and very intelligent. Make sure to do the hw. There is a lot of material but he makes sure to put the more easy topics on the test. His final is questions taken from first 3 tests. Hes great
Prof Hicks is a great professor. He gives you a huge powerpoint packet and makes sure he goes through all the slides by the end of the semester. He will base his exams off these slides as well as the textbook homework he gives. There are no surprises. His exams are straightforward if you do your homework and read your slides you are good to go.
Great prof. I had him for the Fall semester. Everything he does on Lecture (power point) is on the test. Make sure to practice , practice and practice. Easy grader, he gives partial credit for the answers. and the Homework will give you points and will help you to do well in the test as well.
Hard class but Prof. Hicks definitely wants his students to pass. He even gives out copies of his class notes which is really nice. If you learn whats on the powerpoints you'll have no problem getting an A. Be proactive and use the learning center if you don't understand something.
He hints exactly what problems will be on exams, and always does a review. If you do the HW and problems from the lecture packet, you will be fine. He is a lenient grader on labs. He wants to see students do well. If you do better on the final than a previous test, he drops the lower test score and counts the final grade twice. Very fair.
Professor Hicks is one of the best profs. He takes his time so that everyone can really understand the concept. His tests are easy as long as you do the homework and lecture problems. He curves if the class doesn't do well. He doesn't want any students to fail.
Prof Hicks made chemistry enjoyable and fun. It is clear that he is passionate about what he does and wants his students to do well. Study the powerpoint packet that he gives out and practice the problems in it. He will hint in class exactly what type of problems will be on the exam and gives out a table of useful formulas for each test
I took professor Hicks for lab only and it was online. He went through each lab with us carefully and in detailed. If you missed something he wouldn't mind going back to show you. He is a great professor. Not sure how he is for lecture but for lab he was very understanding
I wish I could give this professor a 0 if it were possible. He is snide and condescending with his remarks. He insinuates cheating if work looks different than what he teaches. It shows students should only go by his teachings whether they understand it or not. He does not give a clear answer in regards to grading whatsoever. Don't waste your time
He records lectures. He answers emails. Hes witty. He doesnt know how to break it down in laymen's terms so newbies understand. He rushes thru formulas. If you ask questions, he either pretends he doesnt understand what youre asking. He tells you look in notes or makes snide comments about your lack of math skills. He loves graphs and fractions
I cant believe anyone would rate him bad. He is so patient. He always does reviews. If you email him he gets right back and he works the whole problem out and send a picture of it. His exams are just like his homework and he tells you to do the homework over and over. He did get very upset about cheating but a lot of people were cheating.
Professor Hicks is not that bad!!! He is always willing to help if you are willing to learn. You have to ask him questions cause he skips a lots of basic concepts so you have to slow him down and ask him questions . Do his homework and the lecture problems . His exams are hard so dont try to be lazy . You need to study very hard for this class .
Does not stay on one topic. No consideration for anything except getting work in on time. Its basically either you pass the tests or fail. He does not do homework grades, those problems on the syllabus are optional. If you are terrible at chemistry, do not take him. If you didn't have him for lecture you just wouldn't understand. Lab was better.
Good teacher. He gives a lot of homework but his tests are like his notes not the homework. Lab with him is easy because he explains how to do everything really slowly. Very patient does not mind repeating and going back. Always available to respond to questions by email.
Good professor. He is very kind and patient and understands when things happen like emergenicies. Very lenient about late labs. Exams are not easy though you must study the homwork and his lectures.
This Professor is TERRIBLE! He does labs ok and easy. There are no tests for lab except a evaluation toward the end of the semester (ie: whats a beaker). But his LECTURES ARE AWFUL. He will never ever slow down. You will have to teach yourself chemistry if you take his class. Ive never had a professor who rushed the material of a course like this
WHAT AN AMAZING PROF. The absolute sweetest and he rly cares. Not hard to do well in his class if you do the hw - his tests are very similar to the hw! Always holds flexible extra help sessions. If you email him any questions, he gets back to you quickly. You don't have to attend the lectures as he records them all. Labs are very easy.
He is OK. He does try hard and do a lot of reviews but its a hard course.
This class was pretty hard, as expected, because it's Chemistry. You really have to study outside of lectures or you'll fail. Nearly half the class dropped before the final, but Hicks is a very good professor for Chemistry. Professor Hicks always held extra reviews on Fridays through Zoom. If you don't study you won't survive this class.
He was okay. Kind of just reading off of the powerpoints. Tests are hard and does not help much with review
professor hicks is a good professor who does most of the material in class but you can always ask questions. Need to study outside of class in order to do well, just like most chemistry classes.
Prof.Hicks offers a lot of material in his class, his syllabus gives you optional homework which is great practice for the test. He also conducts online and in-person classes, allowing you to attend on Zoom if you can't make it. He is also quite lenient on grading policy, partial credit is given, and he is accessible outside of class via email.
its not any easy class but professor hicks does a lot to break it down and give hints. easy grader in the lab but the lecture exams are hard. He offers a lot fo reviews through zoom and answers questions by email right away.
Proffesor Hicks offers the ability for remote learning through zoom sessions as wells as reviews before the test through zoom sessions. Very helpful.
Great professors! He is clearly passionate about his subject and teaches it very well. He is frequently available to answer any questions you might have by email or in person, and his labs are straight forward for the most part. One thing I didn't like were his tests, they were pretty difficult, but he always did a zoom review the night before.
Really good professor. You have to study, read the chapters, and practice the examples in order to not fall behind. Professor very knowledgeable and would do reviews night before test as well as record each lecture.
Difficult tests but a great professor. Made chemistry so clear and understandable and hes chill in lab. He always does a review the night before the test so he clearly cares about his students. One of the best professors that made chemistry interesting and understandable
A very nice professor, though his tests are very tough. However, he does a Zoom review before every test and is very good with responding to emails. If I ever was stuck on a HW question, I would email him and he would respond within a very reasonable timeframe.
