'Bout it, 'bout it?
Dr. Johnson was a great teacher! I had him a little while ago, but he makes class really fun, and you learn a lot! He has really interesting viewpoints, and will open your eyes to things you've never thought of before. TAKE HIM!
My favorite college prof I've ever had, the material is difficult but he makes it 10 tiems easier, I actually enjoyed going to his classes. He's hilarious, and always keeps the class entertained
I never thought I would laugh so hard in a Logic class. Are YOU down with logic?? :)
Yeah, this guy's crazy. Ridiculously hilarious. Some of the students seemed to be taking him to seriously and get a little upset, or else they don't know how to take his humor. He's really good at explaining philosophy, but you do have to use your brain. I'm thinking we should get him the Logic Bus.
His class is easy because you remember his jokes. That's all there is to it. You just have to joke around with him and above all: focus "Like a Laser". Plus he's got a cool son, now.
great teacher, highly recommended, youll have a good time.
I love professors with a good sense of humor. I took Comparative Religions with him and loved the class. My favorite quotes of his..."Ben, sippin' on the Hatorade today?!" and "Don't get all up in my grill like that!" Take his class and you won't regret it.
More teachers should be like him. he's funny and he knows what he's talking about. 'Bout it 'bout it.
He is absolutely hilarious! He's my favorite prof so far. He's a great teacher and keeps you laughing the entire class. He makes the subject fun and interesting! I'm glad I took his class. If you get a chance to take Logic take it with him you'll be laughing and learning at the same time!
Teaching style makes me want to go to classes and lectures. Taking two more classes with him i enjoyed logic so much. way to go dr j
He was/is an AMAZING teacher. and witty comments make his class! He is a teacher I will take as often as possible!
He has very good in class discussions, he knows how to lead a group and keep everyon interested
GREAT teacher. Hilariously funny! He outlines everything well and is very easy to follow. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Definately not the easiest teacher in the world but definately one of the most informative/entertaining. Attendence is pretty much mandatory for his classes because his insight and lectures form the base of the class. His tests aren't exactly easy but if you show up and ask the occasional question you should be able to quite well. Promoted a great, laid back atmosphere in the class which led to a great give and take with the teachers and made the entire class feel more comfortable with each other.
He is amazingly funny and makes the material very easy to understand. The best teacher I've ever had.
Great teacher for any class you have with him, is strait forward and fun.
I took about 15 classes from WCC, and It is obvious that Dr. Johnson is the best professor at WCC. This class was not easy, but if you take some notes and prepare for the tests, then no problem with getting A. For each exam, He gives the review sheet. This class can be tough for the foreign students, however, he always helped. He is Fun !!!! =)
HE is so so so funy and smart, excellent teacher.
BEST TEACHER EVER. Also took PHI 250 and HUM 145 with him. Oh my god... he is amazing. Just, don't even bother looking at anyone else. If you're taking any class he teaches, DEFINITELY take it with him. You will not be disappointed. I even took classes I didn't have to take just to take more classes with him. Just do it.
Just simply amazing teacher he by far the best teacher I have ever got ever since I came to study in the U.S, He knows how to combine a great sense of humor in class with excellent teaching.
EASILY my favorite teacher and the BEST one at this school! If you have an opportunity to take ANY class with him, do so. He's an absolutely amazing teacher.
Very Helpful and always interesting
In depth knowledge of and tracking of college basketball establishes rapport with the students.
Reading all the comments makes me wish I had not taken the online version of this class. The online version sucked because the lectures are pretty intense and there is no way to stop to ask questions when watching the lecture on DVD. I think I might have enjoyed the class if I hadn't taken it online.
Dr. Johnson is the best professor I've had, hands down. Unlike with some professors that only seem to know what's on their power point slides, this guy is like a DEEP well of knowledge you can dig into on all kinds of subjects. His lectures/discussions are super intense, thrilling, almost difficult to keep up with, and AWESOME.
He's an alright teacher, but for a introductory class I thought his expectations were a little unreal. I took this as a on-line course, so maybe that played a role in it.
Online!!!! He graded kind of hard. Not much work in the class but kind of indepth. You have to go over the lectures a few times to get the answer, or the answer you think is right. Overall, I liked the class and teacher he just grades hard.
One of a kind teacher. Knowlageable.Lectures are intense but drawn out, might cover a lot of information, or often, cover hardly anything for the whole class period. If you can get into his teaching style, sarcasm, and information he is a good professor. I would recomend him... but decide for yourself, he is not for everyone
Online. Quizzes & discussions board questions are given every Monday and due the following Mon. The answers are from the lectures, so don't buy the book. I had to watch the lectures several times to get the answer. It's very boring, I always went to sleep watching the DVD'S. I hated the subject, he's very indept but I still passed with an A.
Professor Johnson was an amazing logic professor. He's very fun, in your face, and helps you to understand the most abstract concepts. He can get a little crazy at times with some WILD sarcasm, but it's all in good fun. Definitely would take him again if I wasn't only here for gen. eds. TAKE HIM.
Online. Extremely organized. All the tools are there to help you succeed. Fair. Interesting. Extremely knowledgeable. Made philosophy fun.
This instructor shouts a lot!!, it can be very annoying.
Makes class interesting
First prof I had when returning to college after 10 years out. Great teacher and a great man. His comparative religion class really taught me a lot about how to see things from other peoples' views. So much awesome information and he's very into it, yells and jumps and just an all around energetic prof. I suggest him to everyone I know. A+++
Made the class really fun. Grading was fair. The class was only easy if you read, paid attention.
Dr. Johnson is a really good teacher. My favorite thing about this guy is that he respects a skeptical student more so than one that will accept everything he says as true. He encourages you to find holes in the philosopher's arguments that you are studying... which really is the best way to learn (critical thinking skills). I recommend him.
Very enthusiastic! Explains concepts with great clarity. If you do the reviews, you will get an A on the tests. Amazing professor.
Professor Johnson is a very energetic instructor. He makes the class interesting and is very good at making sure everyone understands the material. He goes over his exact exam the class before, but expects precise answers on the exam. A very easy, interesting class.
Honestly the most intelligent professor I have ever had. Took time with students who did not grasp the concepts right away, while still incorporating new information to keep the class interested. I was not very sure what I would think of the class before going into it, and he got me to make it my minor. Definitely take his class!!!
This guy is brilliant. He gives good extra credit, and always has something interesting to say. And he definitely deserves that chili pepper ;) It would be difficult to find a professor with more in-depth knowledge of their subject than Charles Johnson.
Excellent professor with great delivery. We had lots of fun and learned also. Read, do the study guides, and you've got an A. Thought he'd enjoy a Chili Pepper
Johnson is an exuberant professor who manages to approach potentially explosive topics with a grace that puts students of all faiths at ease. He manages to keep it fun while packing intense amounts of content into each class. He has such a fun and comedic personality. His grading encourages students to succeed in the class. I recommend him to all.
THE ONLY TEACHER THAT ACTUALLY TEACHES AND YOU HAVE FUN LEARNING FROM IN CLASS, I DONT KNOW WHAT HES DOING IN WASHTENAW THIS PROFESSOR IS A HARVARD CLASS PROFESSOR FOR REAL!
Philosophy makes me feel as though my brain is falling out of my head. Charles helped me understand it without losing my brain. He is so much fun in class. Be prepared for some heckling, all in good fun. He is amazing!!
Charles is the mopst energetic teacher i've had. He definitely keeps you awake. His class is extremely easy. The tests are verbatim to the study guide he gives out. Just go to class and take notes. You WILL get an A+. Very funny guy. Glad I took his class!
Charles is a good teaher and he knows his stuff. This class is fun Charles invovles everyone and makes class fun and easy for everyone to feel at ease. All you have to do is take notes you'll need them for test everything is in your notes.fun class!
Best Philosophy teacher ever!Take notes you'll get a good grade.
johnson is good
Mr. Johnson is extremely knowledgeable, and made the class really interesting! He was really funny and SUPER EXCITABLE. The yelling took a while to get used to, but it livened up the class and kept it from being too dry. There are a few pop quizzes, but he gives you all the exam Qs in advance, and the reviews are very helpful. Great teacher!
Mr. Johnson is awesome. He made a rather confusing subject extremely fun. He is so hilarious that at times, I would continue to laugh after everyone had quieted down. I love this guy, he is very available to help clarify anything you're unsure of!
So far he's my favorite professor at WCC. Interesting, clear, smart, conscious, I really really like his lectures and he's funny and endearing. =) He also keeps things really simple, responds to emails, and let's you know when grades will be posted.
He is a very good professor. He is very smart and funny. He made a difficult subject easy to understand. He does reviews before the tests, and this makes the tests so much easier. Highly recommended!
Awesome teacher and person. He keeps class entertaining so it goes by fast. He is always available to help. He genuinely loves teaching and you can tell. He drops your lowest test grade and your 3 lowest quiz grades. Attendance is not mandatory. I highly recommend him!
Mr. Johnson is hand down one of my favorite teachers at WCC. He is a fantastic teacher and has a wonderful personality. Trust me, there will never be a moment when you are bored in his class. He's extremely smart and knows a little bit about everything, so it's easy to talk to him. He definitely makes a three hour 9am friday class FLY by.
Best teacher at WCC
A better educator than many U of M professors. If you are passing through WCC, a class with Johnson should be a priority. Easy A as well, so long as you can competently recite the material taught in lectures and formulate coherent sentences. Attendance and good note-taking are crucial.
Johnson's class is "fascinating" and "interesting". He is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about philosophy. Overall, one of my favourite professors at WCC.
Class is straightforward. 4 exams with lowest score dropped. Only readings for homework. Dr. Johnson is passionate and knowledgeable. You'll be glad you took his section.
There is not a better philosophy teacher out there! Johnson is relaxed and energetic about the subject. There isn't a question he can't answer about philosophy. I can't recommend him enough
Good teacher. Lots of enthusiasm. Really helpful.
He is a very interesting prof, he is scattered. i took his one day a week class so i may have a different experience than a traditional class student. Read the book, if you even want to survive. Also think deeper about the topic, he wants deep philosophical. thinking.
Very smart and very helpful. He makes everything very clear and will literally repeat himself 7 times to people to make sure.( I recorded the lectures) Annoyed me but his patience is fantastic. Best professor at wcc, will continue to talk to him as long as I attend school there. Anyone who doesn't like him doesn't pay attention.
Awesome class! Johnson is really passionate about what he teaches and he knows so much! I learned a lot and he's pretty entertaining. Hardly any homework, just study because the class is mostly lecture.
Great professor. Very knowledgeable on the subject and very passionate. Be sure to buy the text book. You need to do the readings every night to pass.
Charles Johnson is a great teacher. But he is also an illusion.
Mr. Johnson is a really nice guy, and always asks everyone how they're doing. There will be pop quizzes, though- almost weekly. He is a tough grader, and if you don't give answers exactly how he has worded them in lecture, he'll deduct points. So if you have a good memory I wouldn't worry so much. If not, you could be in trouble
He has a passion for the subject and is a funny guy. Kind of arrogant but in a light-humored way. Sometimes his quizzes are announced the class before and sometimes they come out of nowhere. The quizzes are easy for the most part but his tests are graded a lot harder. The test review is always the same as the test but they are not easy.
Johnson is an amazing instructor! He's really passionate about the material and makes it fun for those of us who are not so passionate. The material is extremely boring but Johnson actually makes it fun and quite easy if you go to class and take notes! Four tests, drop your lowest score. Lets you use note cards for exams - saved my grade for sure!!
He's such an amazing professor; eager and willing to help! Early classes weren't dreadful at all because he was had so much pep (along with knowledge on the subject). Reviews are exactly what to expect on the test. However, he's a specific grader-- so make sure you cover all that you learned from him (not the book!). 100% recommend.
He is a very interesting professor and very nice. You must do the readings, come to every lecture, and understand the material in order for you to get a good grade. He's a tough grader for the exams, but if you put in the work you will learn ALOT from him. :)
Lectures covers everything needed for this class. Accidentally purchased the wrong book but it wasn't needed. Make sure to listen to full lecture! Don't miss any discussion board as there is only 3 exams for 75% of grade.
Mr. Johnson is a very nice teacher, however he does joke a lot (sometimes not pertaining to the subject). He is very knowledgeable about what he teaches. No prior knowledge is needed, but I suggest you pay close attention and take good notes. I hardly ever used my book (I preferred the internet). Exam reviews are identical to the actual exam.
Professor Johnson is a true gem. WCC is lucky to have him - honestly, I'm not sure how another school hasn't wooed him yet. He's intense, but because he's passionate about the topic and actually cares about you learning the material. Lectures are more like conversations, and he's always available for help. Take him if you can!
Super passionate about the subject and has a good sense of humor. 4 tests, one dropped and 7-10 unannounced quizzes, 3 dropped. Just come to class, take good notes and go to his office hours if u have questions. He hasn't killed a student YET for asking a question
He grades harshly. You have to come to class and take notes on EVERYTHING. If you read the assigned reading, you wouldn't get a good grade on the exam because he tests you on stuff he talks about in class ONLY. His office hours aren't very useful, he will only tiptoe around your questions. So, make sure you write down everything he says in class.
I really enjoyed Prof. Johnson's class. He is well knowledgable and keeps things interesting but, if you are looking for a really easy A + this is not it. You must show up, stay attentive during class discussion, and take detailed notes. You study almost entirely off of your own notes for quizzes and exams. I recommend him if you want to learn!
took him winter 2017. one of the best. 4 exams but the study guide is IDENTICAL to the exam (vocab + essays). 6 quizzes based off of either his lectures or the textbook. drops 1 exam and 3 quizzes. be SUPER specific on exam and quiz, he will mark points down if you aren't. asks everyone how they are as he takes attendance. arrogant in a funny way.
Wonderful professor! If you are someone who wants an easy humanities course, this is not the teacher for you. However, I learned so much from this course and was always laughing during his classes. You may have to work for your grade, but you will take valuable skills out of this class. Make sure you're extremely specific on tests.
If you like to skip class I would advise against this course with Professor Johnson. The reading is really supplemental to his lectures. You most likely will find it difficult to pass quizzes and exams without his lectures and the notes you take. If however you are an attentive and interested student, take him! I really enjoyed the class.
Good reviews and exams. Lectures are a bit long and boring. If you have trouble with keeping up or understanding complicated words or ideology, take another teacher. Great enthusiasm and participation with class
Online Class. Small workload; 3 exams worth 25% each, 6 quizzes for 25% total. The small workload means that there is little margin for error, but he does give you the exam questions a week prior to exams. Exams consist of 10 short definitions & two short essays, NO multiple-choice questions. Watch lectures and take notes, you'll do well.
Overall easy A. Tough grader.
Hes an amazing teacher and gives awesome lectures. The only warning I have is that he doesnt write everything on the board thats important you have to do that yourself. His exams/tests seem easy enough but the short answer ones hes looking for something specific. Not clear what he wants in the answer. That annoyed me.
Great Professor and a really nice guy. He makes class interesting. His lectures are important for the exams. Exams were all fill in the definition with 2 essays, so you really need attend class and study. His grading is a little harsh and usually wants a lot of detail. He does offer extra credit.
Worst professor I have ever had. He tells you to ask him for help but when you do all he tells you is to look at the PowerPoint. This whole class is based around 3 exams. A definition portion and an essay portion. Awful in my opinion.
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD! He gives great feedback! You must attend class but it is worth it because the class is always enjoyable and he explains everything to the point if you do not understand he will break it down so you can understand it. He always has office hours right after class so if you need extra help. 110% recommend his classes!
I felt he was a tough grader. His lectures are from 2001 and contain lots of information to help you. He was a pretty tough grader and wanted to see lots of effort, more than a typical 100 level class like this. Not many assignments though so that was nice.
pretty bland if you ask me. I'm sure he means well, but his lectures drag on.
Took in fall 2021 semester online curriculum. Never did the reading but the lecture videos are super handy. Quizzes and Exams are only graded & are written responses. Deadlines are weekly. Discussion Boards for extra credit. Keep all your content like DB responses, quizzes, and lecture notes b/c it'll help for exam prompts. Class makes you think.
I took this class around the start of the pandemic, philosophy wasn't really in my interest but I will say that he is an okay professor. For me the tests were pretty tough but as long as you study in the book and your notes you'll be fine.
I think Mr Johnson was okay, he definitely knows his stuff when talking about philosophy, but he is a tough grader so you have to make sure that you pay close attention to the lectures and take notes so that you can use them for the exams.
The only assignments graded are 5 quizzes and 3 two-part exams. Watch the lectures or you will not pass. He is a tough grader and expects you to not only master each topic but also provide your own in depth analyses and opinions. If you don't like writing, take something else. Most answers can be directly found from the lecture videos.
Charles was an OK professor. He was nice and responded to emails fast. My only issue is he was never fully clear about what he was looking for in our answers. I felt I'd respond completely to the text given, and still end up with a C. I think he should give personal feedback to each student's paper with an explanation of why they got a poor grade.
Professor Johnson is a very good teacher. Philosophy is definitely not the most interesting class to me but he gives you all of the information you need to pass the class and it is easily accessible. The test/quiz questions are taken straight from the lectures/powerpoints. This class is easy to pass if you use the resources you are given.
The class consists mainly of doing readings before class and then going over it in class. He is incredibly understanding and clear on concepts. It is important to him that everyone in the room understands what he is going over. He is a harsh but fair grader and gives everyone the best chance to learn!
All I can say is stick to the exact definitions for the exams. If the questions don't match up word for word, even if the altered word could possibly mean the same thing, stick with exact definitions.
engaging lectures if you listen, has video lectures on blackboard as well and a pretty lenient grading curve. Would recommend.
An incredible professor who cares deeply for his students, tests can be hard but not unreasonably so. You don't lose points for not attending, but in Logic specifically, it would be difficult to catch up due to the subject matter. He's a very fun and dynamic professor who gives clear and comprehensive lectures. By far my favorite professor here!
He is a funny guy but his lectures are difficult to follow and he doesn't answer questions well. He will dock you points on the exam if you don't write the definition EXACTLY as he wants. Exams have essay questions in which he will mysteriously dock you points for not answering an invisible question that wasn't even part of the essay question.
The course is really straightforward. Just make sure to use the readings and lectures when doing assignments. The PowerPoints are really helpful. An easy A.
He is very caring and supportive. The grading is straightforward just three exams and five quizzes, with the two lowest quiz grades dropped. He also offers weekly extra credit discussion boards. If you stick to using his lecture material and follow his guidelines, it's an easy A. However, if you rely on outside sources, you're likely to struggle.
Tough grader, but lectures are helpful if you stay engaged. Exams can be tricky, so use Unstuck ai and the textbook to study effectively. Overall, manageable workload if you put in the effort.
Tough grader for no good reason. Class structure is poor and confusing at times. It doesn't matter how closely you follow his directions; you've already done something wrong. Would not take it again. I'd rather learn philosophy from the back of a cereal box.
The lectures are good but the definitions exams, which comprise 60% of the final grade, are subjective attempts to guess the professors opinions. While the instructions say to choose the definition that "best" fits use of the term in class, the answers that contain references to philosopher's we've read or any course-specific info are "wrong."
