Classes for calc 3 Run for almost 2 hours twice a week, so missing one class can put you very behind. The class is also rather difficult to grasp in and of itself, but his lectures are very concise and his sense of humor is quirky, unique and entertaining. Im hoping to take him again for Diff Eq next semester, but his class will require effort.
His class is absolutely tough but he's very transparent about what will be on the test and all the material is well taught. Attendance isn't mandatory but he goes through one section per class so missing a class can be devastating. He has a quirky and entertaining sense of humor and is a joy to talk to. Definitely take the time to get to know him.
Taking with him cal2 this sem. It was a bit hard. The first two exams were not hard. He saw the class average and made it outta of 90 lol. Tests are straightforward from the slides. No need to take notes, he posted slides for each chapter. the attendance is not mandatory but every end of the class, there're small quizzes( often in groups)
Does group work on 1 or 2 problems covered in the lecture in every class. You do not have to attend class, but you'll be giving up 15% of your grade by doing so. He covers all the material in lecture, takes notes on his PowerPoint, and saves PowerPoint out there with the notes for the students. That allows the student to plan accordingly.
His lectures were very clear, and all the notes were available on his website. He does have an accent, but it's not hard to get used to. Online homework was assigned every week, but it was very useful when studying for the test. He was also very considerate and always willing to help.
Dr. Kang is very helpful in explaining Calculus. Although he doesnt give test reviews, attending his lectures and attending the SI sessions will make the course far easier. I definitely recommend him, and not only for Calculus 3, but for other courses as well.
This professor genuinely cares about his students and does his best to help you succeed. The lectures are clear and concise and he uploads a document with his worked notes every lecture. The tests are straightforward and will usually tell you what to expect. Each test contained a small curve. Group classwork for a grade at the end of every lecture.
I wanted to take his calculus three class so badly because he made me understand calculus two really well, but it wouldn't fit in my schedule. Yeah, I nearly failed the first test, but I made all high grades afterward. His class is hard, no doubt. However, he will help you if you just let him.
Awesome
Charles Kang is a great professor! Very clear in his lectures, and the tests is very much like the exercise problems he provides at the end of each lecture. He is not a walk in the park, you do have to put in some time to study. Overall, great professor
Linear Algebra itself is fairly easy. Professor Kang keeps attention by being humorous with an interesting delivery at times. When the class participates the class hour goes more quickly. Class isn't required, but he has class assignments for groups at the end of each day which account for 10-15% of grade.
Hilarious and laid back dude. If you participate and try hard to understand the topics the tests will be easy. also HIGHLY recommend his SI (TA) he really helps you understand the concepts in class and prepare for tests.
Unfortunately, Kang explicitly hates linear algebra (he made sure to make it abundantly clear since day 1). So his class was a mess, lecture notes not prepared, the first 15mins of class was him just chatting w/students, did not understand the concepts that he was teaching. Only people who were familiar w/linear algebra prior to Kang passed. Yikes
Dr. Kang is a very reasonable teacher. He goes through the theorem or problem once well, and then goes over a few practice problems and then gives a class exercise which is just a problem of that sort to try on your own. He gives necessary feedback when asked and is always willing to explain! Chill funny guy with good teaching mechanisms.
Took his class during the summer and yes I know summer classes are fast paced. What I didnt like was that he would teach a section and literally give group class exercises at the end of the section, like some people need a minute maybe even a day to understand the materials! He also doesnt do reviews for tests so youre studying blinding. Not FUN
His teaching style is mainly showing you the proof behind a certain problem before proceeding on to show you how you do it. The homework is a bit rough, and it is supposedly mandatory for all Calc 2 profs to assign. He is more than willing to push the due dates though. His tests are a breeze and consists of the most simple types of problems. Easy A
Dr. Kang is a charming prof. He makes the class engaging and fast paced during the summer. So if you are ok in math and hate slow pace Kang is your man. He will grade HW,class work (group), 3 tests +final. I was border line with A and the final was reasonable, majority of the class got an A . One thing, dont interrupt it will sidetrack the class.
Dr. Kang teaches math concepts in a very clear, easy and fun way. His class exercise is really helpful to understand the concept. He grades thoroughly but gives partial credits.
I took Kang for Calc 1 and 2. Best teacher ever. He is so funny, it helps keep you focused. He is very clear about what will and will not be tested on. Tests aren't too difficult, and class work is easy. Study hard and you will make an A. You never have to take notes in class because he posts them online. This allows you to focus on content.
he's a really great person and an even better professor. his class consisted of 3 test, class/homework grades and final exam. there's a classwork after every class period but they aren't that bad and the homework is online and its the worst. And if you get all A's or 2 A's and a high B on the test, he lets you exempt the final. would take him again
I LOVE this dude. Lets you exempt final if you end with an A, is so funny, understanding, and grades easily giving good feedback. I'm can't wait to take him again for calc 2
Will never take him ever again. Bro just slides thru the ppt and then expect us to understand and do classwork and turn it in for a grade. If youre not good at math and learn slow. Dont take him. Periodt.
The man is fantastic. He is hilarious and managers to make a math lecture fun at times, he might roast you thought. He displays his lecture notes on a tablet so you can see him work out material during class and view it later online. He has an accent but you quickly get used to it, nowhere near as bad as other teachers.
He made the class harder than it needed to be, only made YouTube videos for class and never told you what was on the test or quiz. I recommend taking him in person but never online just wasnt up to teaching or interacting to help the students virtually through a lecture. I took him during the summer.
So far, a solid professor. However, lectures are given in online videos. Every week, we are given quizzes, as well as group work assignments. Doesn't respond to emails fast, or basically at all. His lectures are good, but I recommend going to tutoring for his class. And no, he doesn't give you a heads up on how his tests are. All in all, 7/10.
This is my first time taking calculus 2. I struggled with 1, but i am enjoying taking 2 with Kang. This course can be easy, or hard. That depends on you. Since there is no calculator, the calculations are actually straight forward. There's very little memorization. Tests are fair to mildly easy. His teaching is actually really good. 9/10 professor.
He just doesnt teach. He stands in the front of the room and writes down stuff from the homework but doesnt actually cover anything new. And about the homework, its a weekly online assignment and since he doesnt teach you have to figure it out on your own.
I don't know what happened to this class but, Calc 1 with this man was impossible. He doesn't teach at all. Class ran for about 45 minutes all of which were us students taking a quiz. The tests were hard because he doesn't teach. In addition, I couldn't tell you what my grade is. You will never know your grade until term ends. Exactly, gg.
I'm sure COVID really messed with his lesson plan this semester, but I commuted over an hour to class just to take a 15-20 minute quiz every week. It's like he just gave up and I feel like I wasted my money. I learned calc1 with youtube (only reason I'm getting a B). You do have groupwork every week (quizzes based on those), hw weekly and 3 exams.
He did not even teach us. You are basically expected to learn the content by yourself and show up to class only to take a quiz. Do not take if you dont want your GPA to tank.
I feel like Dr. Kang is a great instructor when you see him in person, but I feel like he is not prepared to teach during covid. For half of the semester, Dr. Kang uploaded the group work and lessons online 4 days before the quizzes which caused many stressful nights trying to teach yourself the lessons which could cause you to become overwhelmed.
This class is an afterthought for Kang. Lectured once a week online, and you come to class once a week to turn in class work and take a quiz. His lectures were confusing, but the material is super easy and straightforward if you review after. Had the option to skip final if you had an A. Have to buy Pearson access for homework (annoying but easy).
Dr. Kang is a solid choice for Linear Algebra. I took him during summer so the class was fast paced. I made an A and I definitely had to work for it, but he doesn't make his class exceptionally difficult either. Dr. Kang is a pretty funny guy with a good sense of humor. I would take him again for another math class if I had the opportunity.
If you want to pass Calc 2 I honestly can't see it being any easier than this. No calculator, so simple math. There's a quiz almost every class, which is a good thing, as the exams closely match the quizzes. He will typically teach a concept, do an example, then have group work of the example, and quiz it next class. There are also online lectures.
Be ready to learn what you need to learn because almost every day there is a quiz but it helps in the long run because then test are not out of the blue. He will make you round out your math education is the best way possible without being mean about it.
Prepare to spend about 3-4 hrs a week watching his lecture videos and doing the homework. If you keep up with the course content, this class is very enjoyable and not too difficult. Kang is one of the most entertaining and effective professors Ive had at KSU. If you need to take Linear Algebra, go with Kang
Dr Kang has been my favorite teacher at KSU. He is funny and picks on students that can throw it right back. Extremely knowledgeable and calculators are not permitted on tests. The reason is he makes the tests much easier and simpler due to having no calculator. Very understanding and a great professor. If i could i would take him for all math.
Do NOT take him. He just shows a powerpoint and expects you to know everything. You're expected to memorize certain formulas before class and he will constantly call on you if you don't know something.
Worst prof I've ever had, please don't take
Dry humor and was pretty nice. Make sure you attend class or you will most likely not do well.
Go to class, do class problems, take quizzes, review sessions, attendance is necessary to pass, tests are okay
Taking him again for Calc II. He's a hilarious guy and every class was fun to go to. Just make sure to attend all the lectures and stay on top of the homework and you'll do fine. Those giving him bad reviews never showed up to class and ended up withdrawing.
Prof Kang was super nice and funny and tried his best to help us understand concepts and how to do the work. There were two homework assignments online each week that werent hard
Participation matters, small class/group exercises, always available for questions, would take again!
I can't even begin with Dr. Kang. I had an absolute blast within the class because of both the people and Dr. Kang as well. He may be really hard, but I grew to appreciate and enjoy his lectures and learn from him. You only need to tell him one phrase to make him like you: Did you make any money today?
Take Kang's class if you wanna have fun while learning. He's so funny and him and the people in my class made lectures so enjoyable. It's calc so it's difficult but he makes it so much more bearable. Make sure you try to study harder questions that what he gives you for the tests but other than that you'll have a great time with him. KANG GANG.
Be able to learn on the spot. If not, then preview the material ahead of time bc after almost every lecture, there is a graded class exercise you do with your group. Tests matter most. Try your absolute best not to fall behind especially when you get to chain rule. If you don't understand it and brush it aside, you're doomed. Anyways good luck.
This class was probably one of my favorite classes of this semester, Kang is a very funny guy and makes the class more enjoyable. Being my class was at 8 pm it was easy to almost fall asleep but he'll keep you engaged. Calc is a hard class so be prepared to learn but he makes the class seem better and makes it worth your while.
He drops 2 lowest quiz grades, 2 lowest homework grades, and he has 3 exams in total that makes up 75% of your grade. If you get a higher score on final exam, he replaces one of those 1st 2 exams with the final exams score. The exams are same group problems and quiz problems, exact same format just different numbers. so just study those
He's a decent teacher for linear algebra. Some parts of the class are harder than others. Most of people do well, but some don't. Homework is very easy thought. You will spend most of your time studying for the tests. Make sure you know what you are learning asap or it might be too late. Don't take risks on what you don't know.
Calc2 is not easy but he makes it easy to understand but he will show you something once and expect you to know it. There is group work every day, a few quizzes, 3 tests, homework every other/few weeks, and a final. He replaces the lowest test grade with final. No hard problems and everything on the tests comes straight from the examples in class.
Interesting guy. He's funny, class was extremely easy. Could be because the course is easy. Just come to class and do class assignments and that will basically be what you're tested on.
Funny professor but he was that great at explaining the material to me. Alot of the time i was teaching myself some of the material. He is a strict grader and there is not way to cheat so dont think about it; however, he wants his students to succeed and the final replaces the lowest test grade.
I thought the class was a breeze. He replaces the lowest test with the final and if you have an A average on the 3 tests, he exempts you from the final. Not a lot of homework but it can be more difficult than in-class material. It's hard to fail his class. Tests are quizzes are exactly like his PowerPoints with very simple numbers.
Dr. Kang made calc 2 almost too easy, but that's why he's awesome lol. He makes class engaging and funny. Very easy going professor. Get him if you can, that simple!
If you don't care about comprehensively learning a material to a deep level, this professor is probably for you. Otherwise, Dr. Kang doesn't seem to be that helpful in learning material in a straightforward and clear manner. His main teaching method seems to rely solely on practicing problems; never on clear conceptual explanation on a topic.
Honestly a really solid teacher. You may have to teach yourself some of the topics to understand the content at a deeper level, because his teaching style usually just doing practice problems. After the practice/lecture you have 20ish minutes of classwork with a predetermined group that is graded. His tests are really fair though, nothing crazy.
Professor Kang is very good at teaching the material and participation matters. Miss class and you will fall behind
If you want to pass Calc 2 you take Charles Kang Simple.
There are basically pop quizzes due at the end of class (group work). He assigns 2 homework assignments on pearson every week (I enjoyed this). The actual exams have around 7 questions each. He's very funny and keeps late classes entertaining but you really need to understand all the homework inside and out to nail the exams.
Mocks students for asking poor questions! Grades very harshly for algebra mistakes; tests are much harder than any other work in class and he will not provide study materials. Despite the sarcasm, he teaches the material surprisingly well; if you pay attention and put in plenty study effort you'll do well. Hardest math professor I've ever had.
I was worried about taking this class but dang this man made it EASY. Don't get me wrong you still have to understand what's going on to do well, but his tests feature questions akin to the first examples you get in a lecture if not even easier. Plus, if you get an A on all of the tests, he drops the final. He's a pretty decent teacher too.
The class is easy. Just shownup, pay attention, and study the group assignments. It makes things easy and you actually understand too. Hilarious dude too.
This class was pretty easy and the professor explained the topics very well. He has work due at the end of every class and the quizzes were easy as well. The classwork was harder than the tests so the class is not bad. Very easy, very funny, very caring.
This guy's lectures are great and he's funny too. You MUST go to class to complete his classwork, and you MUST complete all the online homework to get an A. If you aren't lazy then you will like taking Calc 2 with Kang.
He's funny mixed lessons in class and give simple examples to understand more. If you follow his lessons in class and go to SI section, you will be fine. Quiz and kahoot are very helpful for tests. Getting average A for 3 tests, you will be exempted final.
Class has 3 exams and no quizzes. Attendance is mandatory as you have group work at the end of each class. Exams are based more on Chat GPT problems than homework or in-class notes. Dr Kang seems to be a decent guy but if he calls on you and you get the answer wrong he will not hesitate to embarrass you but that may be his personality.
Honestly was disappointed in Charles Kang because of how many positive reviews. Took for linear algebra and i thought his lectures sucked. I taught myself the whole class on my own from youtube. Accent isn't too bad, so that's a plus. He is overly sarcastic and can make fun of students. That, combined with teaching myself the class, is annoying.
As a couple other reviews noted, Dr. Kang breezes through lectures. If you want to do well, you can't rely on his weak powerpoint slides. Definitely is not as quality of a professor as some of these reviews made him out to be. Not awful, though. But very average. Nice guy in general but makes fun of people. Quizzes at end of every class also.
Dr. Kang explains things very well. His lectures are straight to the point, and his classwork directly reflects the material you've gone over. Homework is a little tricky, because it is on Achieve and he does not get to directly write the questions. Tests, however, are similar to the classwork and lectures. Take notes and do the classwork!
The “difficulty” score is for the class, not him. Calc 2 is definitely one of the harder math classes, but he made it as easy and straightforward as he could. He has a group work at the end of each class. He also lets you exempt the final if you have an A average across your 3 tests. He's the best math professor I've had! Take him!
He makes ODE as simple as he can. He'll exempt your final if you have an A average across the tests. He gives a classwork during each class that he'll base the tests off if, so focus on studying those. Take him for as many math classes as you can!
This professor is very challenging, because he does not lecture effectively. His annotations are so hard to read, and he is not at all approachable. He typically has attitude to students, which is not very motivating. You have in class work every class period, and hw each week.
The content isn't hard and he explains very clearly. As long as you pay attention and study his notes, you'll do fine. Homework can be hard sometimes, but you get 10 attempts per WebAssign question. There are short in-person assignments but you can discuss with others. 3 tests, and if you have an A average on them, you're exempt from the final.
I found this class very difficult due to the lack of support and clarity in lectures. The professor was often unapproachable and rarely offered help when asked. I strongly recommend looking into other instructors who are more engaged and supportive of their students.
Eh. His class isn't insanely hard, really is based on all the tests. The homework is way more difficult than anything you'll see in class or exams. He is a pretty dry professor with a kind of rude, sarcastic teaching style. Very unapproachable. Class wasn't difficult so I would take him again, I just did not enjoy his teaching style
Hilarious and interesting professor. No study guides or curves, but with an A average on the exams he will exempt the final. There is a lot of uncertainty with this professor, but you will learn to deal with it as the semester progresses. His teaching style is very participation based.
His lectures are thorough and accessible. There's classwork every class so attendance is somewhat mandatory and the final replaces your lowest test grade (but you can exempt if your test score average is an A). Overall a good professor, though he can be condescending when asked questions. Put in the work and you will definitely succeed.
Dr. Kang was probably my favorite professor throughout university. He's hilarious, tough, and fair teacher that makes every lecture interesting. His teaching style and personality is tough at first, but you get used to it. This is the first time taking a class where I felt connected and looked forward to coming in. Tests are similar to classwork.
This guy saved me from the Titanic
Best Professor I have taken in college yet. He makes calc 2 a piece of cake no joke. He does not try to throw any curve balls at you on the exams and makes the exams the same as the group classwork. Even if the class makes your schedule weird I would still take him because of how easy he makes this class.
Very good Calc 2 teacher ngl. Tests aren't as hard as you would think and class work problems are very useful to study.
Do not take kang for DISCRETE MATH. His good reviews are for Calc 2. He doesn't do study guides. His Discrete lectures are horrible. He assumes you know everything and gets upset if you ask questions about any of the material. To him everything we are learning is "too obvious" to explain further.
I'm taking his calc 2 class right now and he makes the the material very understandable. I'm no math wiz but I've been able to help my friends in other classes by explaining how Kang explains it. Also, if you get an A avg on tests, you exempt the final. His tests are super straightforward. You just have to be prepared when he calls on you in class.
An overly sarcastic kind of guy who can be a prick from time to time. He's not a very good 'teacher' and asking questions in class is close to impossible without it being a humiliation ritual in front of the whole class. Relying on lectures a lone to understand content won't work, but the homework is helpful and he follows the textbook to a T.
Pretty easy class. Exams are essentially the same as practice questions with different values. If you have an average of 90+ on all 3 exams you can exempt the final which is pretty sick. He jokes with students sometimes but its not nearly as bad as others make it out to be. As long as you do your due diligence you'll be fine.
