Very hard class and doesnt help much.
doesn't cover right material. doesnt't tell you what's on test. my class: 1 a, 1 b, 2 c's, the rest d's and f's. head of national honor society, goal in life: weed out the weak.
..hard.
No help, no luck, don't take his class. You will not understand calc. The book is a better teacher then his crazy ways.
He's not really helful, does everything from the book. If you understand the book you don't even need to go to class.
I've had calc before so I was well prepared for this class. However I can't say the same for the rest of the students.

poor instructor. don't know how to read some sophisticated integral notation. he teaches nothing in the class. he dones't know physics. he pretends to be an instructor. i doubt if he graduated in math
Actually you just do the homework, and you get what he is doing. He gives a lot of extra edit, suppose to be easy to get As , just that he often dis you with his attitude. And he usually give a really hard test at the first time, which is the first exam.
He is okay~ Just that he always acting so excited , you don't know what he'll do next , very weird guy~ but he is nice , he just like to talk about how hard he is~ bascially just do the homework , and really learn for urself~ don't rely on him too much.
Impossible to understand or learn anything at all...a lot of people dropped his class in the first week
HARD HARD HARD.... do NOT take this guy. Totally off topic. You don't learn anything.
he doesn't really understand calculus, so he goes exactly by the book, teachers like him are the reason why DeAnza uses the crappy "wattered-down" calc book.
Doesnt want to help students. Hates students. Angry at the world. I'd give him an F-
Klien is probabaly the worst instructor I've had at DeAnza. Totally arrogant & unhelpful to his students. His tests aren't clear, & if you aren't able to read his mind and give him what he wants , you loose points. Student success isn't a priority to him.
do the HW and pass, otherwise don't bother to show. tests are hard! doesn't eplain much in class.. from a class of 55 went to a class of 6 in two weeks.
it seems that he doesn't know Math well. when we have a promble to ask him he always looks at the solution book. He doesn't know how to teach and he is not nice either.
Even if you have been a math Wiz it is a good chance this guy will uncaringly Fail you. Prides himself on running Phi Thetta Kapp on campus and uncaringly fails students who STUDY and STUDY and STUDY! Don't take if U need a helpful inspiring teacher!
I think his teaching is very clear. I could understand what he's saying.
pretty easy and clear
There are some teachers who don't speak clearly because of their accent, but they at least get their point out. However this teacher talks and talk and doesn't get anywhere. Very unclear and worse teacher ever.
Horrible teaching skills. Talks way too much without making any clear points. Worst teacher ever.
unless your on crack there is no way to keep up with his mile a minute pace. and when he gets frusterated it gets even worse
he is easy because he gives a lot of extra credit:) you will actually learn (if you go to his class). a really good teacher!
I wouldn't say his class is easy. However there is extra credit. Kinda boring though.
His pace is really fast, he talks alot, and gets frustrated easily. He expects you to know everything "LIKE A PRO". Hes cool at least but his math course is kinda sketchy.
horrible teacher ever!!he keeps braggin bout stupid stuff..dont take him!u wont learn anything. Questions on da test sometimes r from different chapter. He cant teach.Asked him4help,i couldnt do problems,he said "Well too bad.."dats pretty mean.
I had an A in his class but that's because it's my favorite subject and I worked my butt off for it! He's not easy but he's not a bad teacher either, so take him if you're good at math or are willing to learn.
I was raised to be very curtious and respectful. I almost never curse. I curse in his class!
Worst teacher ever! Don't take him if you want to get a good grade and learn some math.
worst teacher i ever had i got a F
Teaches straight from the book. If you do horrible on quizzes he'll write "Go back to Math 1A" or write the drop date on the exam. Doesn't care about any of his students and their feelings. Even when I got a tutor, that couldn't save me. DO NOT
Get a grip on life; He is paid to teach not to care about his students feelings. I liked him and his teaching style. Very professional not feely-tochy.
I like'm. I did the homework and had no problem. He helps only those wh don't waste his time with stupid question.
You will get very high scores, together with extra credits, in mini-tests and exams if only you study the text extraordinarily hard. "NO BEACH in this summer~~" :)
Very good if you study hard. Easy tests.
Awsome teacher. He does not waste class time with the bozos. He is not one of the bleeding hearts that will pass you for just trying. Expects you to be prepared otherwise he want bother with you. Easy tests if you paid attention in class.
this teacher is extremely HORRIBLE! avoid this teacher at all costs. hes hard to understand and his quizzes/exams are nearly impossible. you will learn jack squat in his class. studied my ass off for this class, but ended up still failing!!! I HATE HIM!!! he ruined my life for the quarter!!!
this is the kind of teacher you will expected at UCs better read the books! he only goes over general stuff. he looks like Ucs Professor anyway. i dont know if he is recommended
Very bad.
He expects his students to know all the answers and he doesn't explain them. His class starts out very easy, but don't fall for any false impression because when the probability chapter starts, the class will become 20 times harder. I would suggest taking math 10 with another teacher.
he sucks....bad....worst teacger at deanza......do not take him im begging u
so yea he is the worst teacher EVER! i dropped after a few weeks because apparently anyone that enters should already know everything. i didnt learn anything and im a hard worker, needless to say i talk to a few people towards the end of the quarter that were still in the class and they said that mo
Tests and quizzes are impossible. 9/10 people will get a D and at most 2 A's and 1 B will be given. On labs, takes of points on every written answer and asks? Explain this further. You have to draw a line somewhere. Otherwise, each question will be 100 pages long. Avoid him, take Susan Dean instead.
Inhuman. Needs to get a heart because of his grading. Very difficult. Seems to enjoy giving A's. Doesn't care about students. Why do teachers become teachers when they hae no passion? It's for the money! To be honest, teaching is one of the easiest jobs. Very repetative. No stress, teachers complain
I have been at deanza for a long time. I have had my fair share of good and bad teachers. Charles Klien ranks dead last. Irrfutably the worst teacher ever to breathe gods green earth. He shouldn teach at all, he should be banned from teaching at any college. His next gig should be teachers gone bad
dont take him if you like passing your classes. i did all the hw, and all the extra credit and i still did not pass. tests are unclear and the lectures are not helpful. if you take his class you will fail or drop. 5 people out of 65 passed the class i was in.
Does he have any sympathy for his students? NO!! Do NOT TAKE HIM, I repeat, DO NOT TAKE HIM. He messed up my life, my GPA, and my career path. EVIL EVIL MAN. I'm a 3.5 GPA student so take my word for it. THIS MAN IS VERY IMPOSSIBLE!
I took this guy's class and struggled in a big way. I couldn't understand what he was talking about. He seems to be on medication, robotic and cloudy in his communication style. When my girlfriend went to him for help, he asked her out...ah, loser guys and tenure.
Good lord, what's up with these ratings people? He's the easiest math teacher I've EVER had in my life. Period. Pay attention in class, work all the problems, attempt everything, don't be shy in class and there's NO WAY, I guarantee, NO WAY you can get lower than a B in the class. His midterms and exams are EASY if you do the necessary work.

quizes all from text book reviews, do the extra credits.very clear on lectures...
His is very clear when he goes through material he knows, however, if there is something he does not know or it take too much time he does not bother figuring it out. His tests are harder than the ones you find in the book. I got a B in the class, but be prepared to study everything in the book on your own!!
Mr. Klein is an awesome teacher. Like any self-respecting Mat-Sci teacher he does not subscribe to that “self-esteem” crap. So study hard and keep notes and you’ll have an easy “A”. Calculus is not for morons.
particpiation is a MUST in this class. you need to answer questions/speak all the time. tends to favor people that talk. explains most problems verbally than actully showing the steps. doesn't answer most questions and can go off on lecturing about stupid things (ie crossing out numbers, cleanliness of work). i don't recommend him. save yourself!
Beware. Tests are very hard. Much more difficult from the homework. Be sure to remember skills such as integrations you learned from the past. Also, take-home was impossible unless you really love math. I suggest you avoid if you want to get a good grade in math. You should take math at Foothill.
he's the most tricky prof i've ever met. he's no where to be found when you needed him. His lecture are for smart ass people. He never goes over the materials throughly. It seem to me like he doesnt care if we understand the concepts or not. Unless you planned on not coming to lecture, then take him. I learned more on my own than from him.
klein is the worse teacher i've ever had. Precal sure is not hard but HE made it hard. If you like independ study, then go for it. He's the type that expect you to know everything b4 coming to lectures. He grade hard, that y no matter how hard you try, is either you pass or you fail
He favors certain people and is very confusing! Very rude towards students and is not available for office hrs... unhelpful! NOT RECOMMENDED, DO NOT TAKE AT ALL COST! Take Math49B with someone else who DOES teach and helps with questions...
I'm interested in attending his 49b class, and he teaches very well.
I like his way of teaching. if you study(read book, take notes, do the hw), you will definitely get an easy B. grading is fair, and you can actually learn something. just don't be lazy and go to class, you will be fine.
All of his tests are tricky and never enough time to finish. His final is multiple choice. 75% of his lecture is verbal and he rarely writes anything on the overhead because he is prone to simple arithmetic and algebraic mistakes. He says, "you don't live or die by one test/minitest score"... don't listen to him, drop while you can.
This teacher is all over the place! He doesn't explain anything! He doesn't go over material in decending order, and he rambles! NEVER TAKE THIS TEACHER HE SUCKS!!!!!
he's a jerk who doesn't give a damn about his students.he gives out very hard tests, always rushing, and makes mean ass comments that make you uncomfortable to ask questions.DO NOT TAKE HIM!he wasn't meant to teach, doesn't enjoy teaching at all!i failed his class and i'm a 4.0 student. i try my hardest always, but he's an impossible man! **** u klei
He's just CRAZY!!! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Although he might have jazz hands, he is an excellent teacher who can help you out if your in need. He gives extra credit questions in exams as well as he doesn't check homework. If you have done AP AB or BC, then this class will be a piece of cake. At some point he gets excited, but all in all, he is a good teacher.
I've taken him 3 times and I really enjoyed his lectures. He explained the concepts very well instead of just showing how to do problems. His exams are pretty tough and he almost always includes one problem that is hard and requires you "think outside the box" and understand the concept really well. I feel that I'm better at math because of him.
He talks fast explaining things rather than writing things out. He expects students to understand his teaching style which isn't clear. He's not very understanding of his students and he doesn't really care. DON"T TAKE HIM!!!
The majority of my class dropped. Tomorrow is the last day to drop so I might as well. Three people in my class are passing. I have a D, and two other people have C's. His tests are broken into two catagories, the mini and regular. Mini are pretty much a normal test for any other class, except he kills you on points. Regular are much harder/longer.
He is very good math instructor, his lecture is very clear. He puts every quizz and exam one problem for extra credit. As long as you understand the concepts and do enough homeword exercises, you will be doing great!
He is really good teacher!!!!!! He doesn't check homework, but you have to do it to catch up. I hate math, but I really like his lecture, I am never bored!
This professor is not very helpful. I studied like crazy for tests and did all the homeowork problems, but the tests were really hard. Although, one good thing about this professor is that he doesn't collect homework and he doesn't take attendence.
Very helpful teacher. I like his lecture which is clear and fun. Although I don't like math at all but I love to come to his class. If you do the hw and come to class, the tests are not big deal. A lot of test questions came from your hw in the textbook. Lots of x-tra points in the tests.
Although he doesn't collect homework or take attendance, his exams are very hard. Therefore, you still have to study like crazy for the tests. He is really really nice, but i think it is very hard to get an A in that class.
He's a nice guy and teaches well but the problem is his tests are really hard. Even if you go to the lectures and do the homework, the tests are still really difficult. If he was gonna tests us so hard, then the hw should be the same that way we have an idea. Tests weekly. Doesn't collect hw or keep attendance. I guess that's the only positive.
Even though I got an A in his class, I still think he is pretty damn hard. I got an F on the first test but I studied really hard afterwards and made it. If ou want to do well, you have to do all the problems in the book :/
Damn! I got B in his class! His test is hard like hell! In addition, the tries has plenty of problems that trick you. Sometime, you make awful mistake just because of CARELESS MISTAKE! ****! Don't make mistake! That'S ALL! If you don't make mistake and do suggested problem in the text book, everything will be all right!
If you want to transfer, you must get A. Although you're capable solving all problems on the text book, you make mistake on test. He says" Grade doesn't change your life. Once u out of college, nothing matters." Don't listen him. Grade does definately matters.
Has 'little-man' complex--is more interested in making you conform to what he says than learning the calculus. Has 7 exams and a multi-choice final. Uses "mini-tests" instead of quizzes, but they're full-blown exams with less time to do them. Lectures are clear, but he falls behind and drops entire sections needed for later classes. Awful prof.
Very interesting and helpful teacher. He makes math become vivid and funny. The tests are pretty hard and he requires us highly, but he gives us lots of assignments for extra credit. If you really want to study math, take his class.
In a word, Mr. Klein is lively. His lectures are interesting because he speaks clearly and expressively, and keeps the class involved. Some might say he's a picky grader, but I find that his requirements are sensible. He always gives an extra credit problem on tests, which makes it easy to do well regardless.
Just awful. STAY AWAY. He only goes over very general concepts, and doesn't go over homework problems- you have to figure out on your own. His is really picking when grading, tiny mistakes and he'll take half off. He wants perfect work in less than reasonable time. Has tricky problems and expects you to know everything. Stick with someone else.
by far the most arrogant strong headed teacher i have ever met in my academic career. his tests are ridiculous, not even covering anything relative to the actual hwk problems. grades hard, and leaves rude comments on your test papers. I.E. "you expect me to read this?" his tests are terrible no matter how much you study for it. worst class ever.
I find this teacher to be very good. As usual, must do the homework to do well in the class. Dynamic teacher who keeps the class involved. Tests are fair, even if long. Offers some extra credit but would count on it to improved grade. He hands the tests/quizes back the next day and goes over them. It really is a learning experience.
i took his math 1c and it's extremely easy. i always escaped his classes...but i still got an A. the final is very very easy.u always have extra credit on every exam quiz and final. very good easy teacher. highly recommended
Not only he looks ghey, his lessons are ghey as well. His class is pointless because I never learned anything. Klein = total waste of our tax money. He doesn't deserve to be a teacher.
worst math professor ever alive. Does not care whether you pass or not, i thought he was trying to help us excel through our future......yeah right.... he's only here to mess your college transcript and life up. dont take him and suffer like i have. don't even think you might be able to pass.... worst decision of my life
he expects a lot from his students and he is rude. if you dont understand something, he wont go over it which in turn defeats the purpose of coming to a class to learn.
Mr. Klein is a realist, he's funny and will explain anything you don't understand; although he might not go over it very long-that's when you go to his office. The homework is not mandatory, but it can be helpful because he uses problems from the homework for his 'mini-tests', and extra credit is always given on the exams and mini-tests. :D
This teacher expected too much from his Community College students. I'll give you a break down of the final grades for the class: 2A's, 3B's, 18D's, and 10F's. Now tell me, how can a teacher fail over 80% of the class. It's as if the entire Math department at De Anza is a joke for having the likes of him.
Fair teacher. He offers a lot of extra credits on "mini-test" and exams. He enforces his green sheet strictly and stresses the importance of reading it thoroughly, which include no make-up "mini-test". His lectures are clear but sometimes relates math with real life, which sometimes throws off my chain of thought. He goes over homework in class ONLY IF you ask him.
His lectures are mediocre, but his tests are much too hard! Some questions not even applicable to what we've been doing, and there is never enough time to finish the exam. I do not recommend him at all.
took him for 2 courses. I took 1D last q and I thought he was very boring and his test were just so-so and I never finished all of the questions in the test. However, I now take Math11 and think he is a funny person. good lecturer but not that good. fair test as long you do the HW. lots of ExtraCred
I enjoyed his lectures, but I found him rude and disrespectful during his office hour. I also found his grading of the labs unreasonably strict.
Klien is easy to understand, but your grade is only based on the exams and quiz scores. I attended every class and did extra credit. I did all the homework and studyed. I recived a D in the class. Klien's tests are multiple levels above his lectures. Re-took w/different teacher and got an A. Klein is not worth your time and money.
The worst teacher I have ever had . DO NOT TAKE HIM !
DO NOT TAKE HIM < WORST PROFESOREVER !
He is the worst!!! His quiz is 3 pages in 20 min. His exam is 5 pages 10 questions(not count the 4 sub question in each one)in 50 min. He grades like hell. He cut half the points off for a - sign in the answer, and When I ask him, he said "it's part of the answer, I change ur grades and I'd have to change everyone else's."
I started math 1D w/ mosh- I switched to klein after just one lecture. much better teacher. U can actually understand things. tests are doable. there's always an extra credit problem worth as many points as other problems. So if you don't know how to do one problem, fine, just skip it, do the other ones. very good professor that prepares u well
Don't understand why people say hez hard. His lectures are pretty clear and quizzes are really straight forward. Ok tests are a bit harder but still doable if you know the material. No mandatory HW &attendance, great for student who prefer self study. Lots of extra credit. To tell the truth, I didn't do even half of his assigned hw and still get A..
Turned what was supposed to be a pretty basic math class into a nightmare for everyone. Worst teacher EVER. This man made me cry.
Perhaps one of the worst teachers I have ever had. Grades rediculously hard, doesn't write his own quizzes/exams. Lecture has very little to dowith the class. Generally poor teaching skills. I would rather shoot myself in the foot repeatedly than take any of his classes again.
He is really bad. He messes up all the material. Make a lot of hard test. Unclear and helpless lecture. The worst teacher I have ever met!
ok, first of all, this is a MATH teacher. a lot of ppl find math hard so quit blaming the teacher!! I think he is a good teacher that actually cares about you learning the material and not just passing the class. I like being challenged and actually earning my grades. So if you are dedicated and actually want to learn, take him =)
You've been warned! He's nice & will chitchat in class about gambling But when it comes to the exams, you will not be adequately prepared. He does not care what the book says, it is all about what he says. So reading the book, doing the homework wont do any good on the exam. He changes all the formulas around that are in the book. u will be lost!
Mr. Klein is very animated, loud, and easy to understand and focuses on your notation. He has no tolerance if you screw up on your basics, and he can be quite hypocritical in what he teaches: ie, it's okay for him to screw up his notation in lecture, but not the student. Leaves very condescending remarks when he grades your exam. No partial credit.

This class is HARD. Unless you are devoted to math by 150% you will most likely scrape by with a D+/C. So if you just need credit and do NOT care about the grade, go ahead at least will get some good laughs out of your scores, but if grades matter BE WARNED, this is NOT an easy A at ALL.
Boring class ever. After the first quiz, half the class drop!!!!!!!!!
Fair grader when i first entered his class almost everyone failed the first quiz and didn't do that great on the first chapter exam. but if you stick around and attempt to understand the concept, you should do fine. lots of XC on tests but time is limited. tests can be a little difficult at times but doable. not easy A class. recommend if u <3 math
Three words: WORST TEACHER EVER
Klein is an animated teacher. He got really excited about stuff that seemed easy, leading me to believe that I would do fine. But the tests were tough. I started doing my homework and pulled through with a B.
Usually I do good in math, I can say this class is HARD. His tests are not only too long but too hard. You have to do more than the homework problems he assigns in order to even contemplate getting a B. Really picky with notation on tests, when his notation is not even up to his own standards. Rarely explains a hw question completely, NOT GOOD!
i am taking his class now and i think he understands the material very much so his lecture is pretty clear. Although his test is not easy and i did not do pretty gd in that, i still learn a lot of stuff in his class. So, if u want an A, dun take him unless u r genius. But if u wanna understand calculus, he is definitely one of ur choices!
Oh, Mr Kline. He is meticulous, and extremely hard. The first day of class is going to give you the biggest migraine ever, because he literally lectures you on what kind of person will pass his class. On the plus side, he doesn't collect homework, but you have to STUDY to pass this class. Don't take him unless you absolutely have to.
Professor Klein is very intelligent and he is a hard grader. He emphasizes student should have good skill of algebra. His mid term is not very hard but Time is limited there are a lot of XC in the test even in the Final exam. Final exam is only the MC.If you do not have good algebra, i think you should not take him.You can learn a lot in his class.
He is ok if u are good at MATH.Doesn't pay attention in Office hrs and didn't explain well for HW and the problems that the students ask. VERY HARD GRADER!!even though u are right,he will say u have to think the way i m thinking. he didn't give u full credit unless u use =d his way. I am doing well in his class but I don't like him.Worst teacher!!
First let me say that math is my absolute worst subject. Mr Klein truly understands his subject so his lectures r crystalclear However he holds high standards of work quality, so prepare to do the work and do it right! He is fair and there is lots of opportunity for extra credit. 4 exams, 3 mini tests, 1 MC cumulative final. hw/attdce optional
ok let me tell u that this is the worst teacher ever... he doesn't tell u nothing n if u wanna pass you have to buy the book and pay really close attention.. aLso he is always yelling.. jst dont take him... BAD teacher.. i got an F n we started the class like more than 30 students n we end up like 11
I don't know what other people are talking about. He's class in not easy, but if you keep up with the reading and pay attention in class and actually "DO YOUR HW", everyone should have no problem getting an A in his class. He's quite hyper sometimes, but cool, awesome professor.
Be Prepare to die, if you take his class. So hard grader!!!!! And don't use decimal in his class, if not, you will lose all your points!
his tests are much too hard! Some questions not even applicable to what we've been doing, and there is never enough time to finish the exam. I do not recommend him at all.
I hate him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really hard teacher, I have the third highest grade and thats a C-, his tests are really difficult, the only time you do some what good is when he offers you a take home test, even then you are not guaranteed a perfect score even if you did 100% of the questions and the work is good. Well he tries to find what ever is wrong, and takes off points.
If you want to learn, dont take him he will only confuse you. pretty much you have to learn it on your own
I had to drop the class. He was impossible to understand, and couldn't comprehend that some of us weren't naturals at math. Terrible at providing assistance to those of us who weren't math geniuses. I had to drop the class.
I'm really annoyed with people bashing teachers on here. Professor Klein is a great teacher. He expects his students to be responsible and STUDY. If you are serious about learning math, and are willing to do the work he will help you get there. Don't say it was hard if you didn't study... I'll be taking him again next qtr :) He knows his stuff.
By far the worst teacher I've ever had. Do not take him under any circumstances. His tests are much more difficult then what you learn in class, and he constantly yelled at us when we were wrong. For my class he only passed 5 out of the 19 students who were gutsy enough to stay and he failed me by .8%. Even if you need to take math, DO NOT take him
WARNING ALL! IF YOU PLAN ON TAKING HIS MATH CLASSES GOOD LUCK PASSING. i seriously think he couldnt care less about who passes. he does not help at all! so good luck...
worst teacher ever. do not take class with this teach if you hope to pass.
To sum up this professor in one word: ABSURD. He actually teaches very well. HOWEVER, his tests are ridiculous. My two problems with them: 1. The time allotted is not enough for the amount of problems. NO ONE IN THE CLASS FINISHED THE TEST BEFORE HE CUT US SHORT AND COLLECTED IT. 2. He docks points off for format even if you answered correctly!
The only good thing for this teacher is that he makes you think about how to solve the math problems. However, exams and quiz are hard and you will not have enough time to finish it. End up with dropping/W because it's impossible to pass. Don't take him unless you are really good at math. But even smart ppl may have trouble to earn an A.
His lectures are actually good, but his tests are hard. He doesn't give you enough time to finish it and most of the questions are not based on lecture/book/homework. He even said that his tests are designed for you to skip 2-3 problems, which are 20-30%! If you're not a natural at math, don't take him. ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR SLACKERS.
He has a passion for math, but it can be a little extreme. Marks off major points for sloppiness(understandable) as well as not quite writing something the way he wants(less understandable). On tests, directions usually won't say how to solve, which means just find the right answer, however if it's not the way he wants it, it's wrong.
Stay away from him if you want an A
he's a good teacher, but it annoys me how he cares so much about how you explain things. if you don't explain things exactly the way he wants you to, he makes everyone guess until they get it right. other than that, he's a really passionate and nice guy who cares about his students.
As he would say, "HINT:" Do not take this class if you want to get an A. I had to drop it halfway through because his teaching was inadequate. I did not have the time to teach myself all the material and still balance two other classes. If you are the type of student who can self-instruct, do it, but if Math is tough for you, stay away from Klein..
I have all A's when it comes to math. math is my thing, but with this professor it was impossible. He deduct points even if you have the right answer. He looks for certain steps in the solution if you don't have them he will give you half the grade even if you have the right answer. I had to withdraw, couldn't take his unfair grading style
I had all the problems right. If you don't do it the exact way he wants even if its the correct answer, it's wrong. Failed most of everything and I still don't know what I did wrong. I'm really good at math and actually really liked it too. Now I'm retaking it.. If you think you can handle this class, go ahead.
It is true that he is clear on the lectures. His exam questions are not hard too, but it is just too much work. I got all the answer right, but if you are not doing the way he expects, you will lose half of the points. If you want to learn, take him. But if you want an easy A, stay away from him.
Many Students think his class is too hard. Actually I think his lectures are interesting and clear. Besides, he will drop your lowest exam grade, and provide some extra credit opportunities in every exam. But if you want to get an A in this class, you really need to work hard out of class.
I've taken this course once before but dropped it because the professor wasn't clear and made the material seem more difficult than it really was. Klein's lectures are CLEAR. Minitests and exams are straight to the point and not tricky. He replaces your lowest test grade if you do better on the final and gives many extra credit opportunites.
Don't take this teacher if you haven't taken this course before. He has no idea what he is talking about. The exam is hard and he is extremely picky on your grade!if you have a bad handwriting you may not get a good grade, he won't give you credit if he can't understand what you wrote...don't take risks!
As long as you do the homework, you should be able to get a B or higher in the class. He gives take-home tests sometimes and they are a lifesaver. Exams are not hard, but you are rushed. You have to average a problem ever 5 minutes. He gives an opportunity to get an extra 10% on EVERY exam, though.
AVOID AVOID AVOID. This guy makes the class so much harder than it has to be. Literally doing all your homework doesnt mean anything in his class. All the quizzes and tests he assigns are confusing by the way he words it. The subjct itself is not hard its just that he makes it so much harder than it has to be. Final is multiple choice but VERY HARD
Worst teacher I have ever had. He focuses on the most absurd details and bases your grade off of those- and I'm fairly good at math. His lectures are incredibly simple but the homework and tests are exponentially harder. He is also fairly mean- he called a student "garbage" on the first day of class. AVOID.
Terrible! Has no clue what he is supposed to teach. Spends most of the quarter covering counting principles (didn't even follow the course outline). Nice guy but has no idea how to teach. Needs you to show that 2-4 is -2 or you don't get credit. Inefficient and an over all waste of time. Take someone else.
Has strange hand gestures and will repeat these phrases like "Fractions are your friends, decimals are a disaster". He gets side tracked really easily and will go on long not math related tangents. Packs the most important parts of the class for the last 2 weeks and the rest of the syllabus takes up the vast majority of the quarter. tl;dr dont take
Home work not collected or graded. Attendance not required. He is a very hard grader. 1 small mistake on a quiz or test problem and he deducts 40-50% of your points. WOW. Quiz problems look like they came from the textbook. HOWEVER the test problems look like they came from hell. Plus he never gives you enough time to finish Don't take this class.
He is super nice but a horrible teacher. He will begin an example and half way through start talking about something else and you'll never know how to finish that problem. His class is just a waste of time and i don't recommend anyone taking it unless they love math and are incredibly smart.
His lectures are very clear and interesting. He always gives an opportunity for extra credit every test/exam. The class is hard, but if you do homework you'll be fine. I highly recommend him.
If I can give 0 I would for all grades above. Do not listen to the one below me. He is as advertised. Very hard. Don't make much senses and loves to say presentation. It's classic his way or high way. Impossible to do well in his class and I am straight A student.
He is really hard grader. He do not give enough time for tests and quizzes. All problems that are in his lecture are solved by students. Had no other choice available so I took him.
He is not the guy you want. I tried to reason with him but he loves to take off points. Now I am behind by a year in my major. If you want at least a B or a C take someone else.
He's a nice guy and all, but a horrible teacher. Rambles all the time in the middle of his lectures about something completely irrelevant. He doesn't stick with his syllabus and will move quizzes earlier and later. He's extremely strict grading-wise. If you turn in your quiz 10 seconds later then you're supposed to, he'll dock off 10%.
One of the worst teachers in De Anza. Tests you on problems that you haven't learned in his lectures.doesn't go over what's on the test and grades with perfection. If you forget a negative sign, you get no credit at all. If you make one mistake, but did the process right, u don't even get partial credit. Do not take this class. Class average: F
I have taken a lot of math instructors and i think he is a great instructor you just have to really work outside of class. If you attend class daily and do your homework there is no reason to get a grade lower than a B. He likes to throw a few curve balls on the tests but if you really understand the concept you should be good. Study, Study, Study!
Klein was the worst teacher I have ever had. He is not clear, not helpful, and barely teaches. He doesn't lecture, he has students answer problems, and we would only get through 2-3 problems a class. You have to learn everything On your own His tests are also near impossible to pass; his grading criteria are nonsensical; he is also rude to students
He only grade your work based on mental ability, which are nothing but tests. He tends to take off points no matter if you get the correct answer or not.
I took klein as a last resort. Worst mistake of my life! The dude grades for perfection, any minor mistake such as forgetting an equal sign will be the end of you; its like he wants to dock points for whatever reason. Tests are tough and you will never have enough time, cant even double your work. just avoid and take it with a different proff.
Avoid at all cost. Klein expects a high standard for "form and presentation", yet cannot follow his own format when doing problems on the board. Since he doesn't collect homework, theres also no way to know if your form is appropriate until a quiz or test comes up. Tests are incredibly difficult. 45 mins for a 10 problem test, sometimes even less.
Even though I have learn this knowlege when I was in high school(Got an A when I was in high shool), I still didn't know how to slove the quetion of the test. Don't take him, seriously. :(
Grade is 100% based on tests. No attendance required, leave or show up whenever. Previous math classes let you slide if you got your point across by answer; this class is like a math class and a language of mathematics class combined where you have to use proper syntax to present your work and answers. At least he was helpful after class.
Professor Klein is engaged and cares deeply about the subject and his students. Although he is critical when grading your work, this is only to improve your skill set. Lectures are broken down and explained throughly. In class there is a healthy environment where students are encouraged to participate. Highly recommend.
He is very confusing when he teaches. He encourages you to ask questions but when you ask for help, he makes you feel dumb for asking it & tells you "to think more". He's really scatterbrained and doesn't do homework, which makes in unfair since his test are ridiculous and tries to find every excuse to dock off points even if you're 100% correct.
I find his classes helping in 'laying foundations in my trigonometry skills.' However, he indeed is a tough grader as others say, and tests are difficult; some of the questions you've never learned in classes. In tests, he emphasizes format and presentation. If you make a tiny error in your presentation, your points will be deducted.
Stats is really a class you need to devout at least 15 hours per week, even his green sheets says it. Klein can be a bit pushy by saying "Do Better" in the group labs he does dock points if we don't detail our work good. Exams were only hard cuz questions were not even close to the examples from homework. P.S, Klein looks almost like Jeb Bush.
Klein is very picky with his grading. The tests, quizzes, and labs are very hard to do well on because he will inspect the paper with a fine-tooth comb for issues. That being said he makes up for this with a very generous grading policy and is willing to help students with things that aren't clear.
Attendance not required, homework not graded. Not an easy A though, tests are ridiculously long and hard (although there is extra credit on the tests). No schedule to speak of, tests are announced only a few days in advance. He does not teach well so not a good prof to take if you don't already know calculus.
Tough Tough Tough grader! He took off too many points. Exams are too difficult to solve it, no time to finish it.
I will recommend avoiding his class at any cost. His lectures are useless; he usually forgets to teach main points but he demands you to know them for exams! His methods are mainly different than ones in the book. So, if you read the book which you have to, it makes you more confuse. Exams are too long, not enough time to answer all. Poor grading.
He's been criticized by many, which made me confused. He's very sympathetic. If you ask questions about any other than Math, he responces every single question. I've been doing simple things. I read textbook before class, and try to understand what he says, and never leave questions unsolved. He's generous to who are zealous. 4 letters' word: READ.
Not sure if past reviews were written by bitter students who didn't do so well due to lack of studying, but Klein is a wonderful statistics professor. He's very passionate and his lectures are never dull. Statistics itself is tough, but if you study and put time into learning the language, you'll recognize everything on this tests and do well.
I was scared to take stats, but he made it pretty fun and interesting. If you want to do well, I recommend attending all his lectures and reading the book. He offers a generous amount of extra credit, which helped me out a lot. Lowest exam, quiz, and lab are dropped. GREAT PROFESSOR, TAKE HIM!!!
Test are completely different from what is taught. No decent examples during lectures. Also does not give homework so you have no idea what he's going to put on tests. As far as grading it almost seems as if he's looking for a reason to not give you full credit.
very caring and good professor. He's there for you if you ever need help and encourages you to think. Attend class because it helps a lot with studying! I would take him again because he's a good lecturer. If you read, attend lecture, and ask for help, then stats is easy peasy.
I've never struggled so much in a class than I have with Klein in Math10. If you have the option of taking another teacher I recommend you do it. He gives no homework so you have no clue what to expect on quizzes or exams, and his lectures are all over the place. He gives few to no examples in class so you can't make connections. DONT TAKE
I'm pretty good with math but Klein is a diff beast. I failed so bad. He is not clear on what he expects of you. Doesn't assign or collect HW yet the 100+ problems/examples in the text is fair game for exam. Lectures are messy & his exam are NOTHING like his lecture/HW. Doesn't want 2 help - just says "do better" - No makeups/late allowed - AT ALL
I need to preface that I would never usually rate a professor... However, Charles Klein is by far the worst professor I have ever had the misfortune of taking. His go-to words of "encouragement" are "Do Better". He falsely says that he uses the material from the textbook in his quizzes/exams. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE- LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE.
Acts like he wants us to do good but doesn't help at all. Only says do better. If you use any method other than the only one method he showed you you will not get points. Does not use material from book at all and exams are at least 75% harder than any question he solved or you might see in the textbook. Take anybody but him do not waste your time
I honestly dont know why he's getting such bad scores. He's a tough grader, and if you're bad at math, you can still make it. You just have to study hard. Do a lot of textbook problems. IDK why people say he lies about getting problems out of textbooks, I don't think he lies about that and even though exams are hard they are still similar problems.
First and foremoest, don't take this class if you're a slow learner and need more guidance. He expects you to understand him within the speed he teaches, which is fast. He assigns homework from the book (which you don't even turn in/get credit for) and puts material on the quizzes/exams that don't correlate or are 10x more difficult.
I only got by in this class by going to the tutoring center non-stop. Stats does require at least 2hrs a day studying. DONT STUDY AT THE LAST MINUTE!! Plus, Klein can just be rude towards students with his sarcastic "humor" and "do better!"
This professor is the worst professor i have ever had when it comes to math. First time taking 1A and he wasnt even teaching. He didnt explain things because he expects us to already know it. Wants me to change the way ive been doing math for the past 13 years. If you dont write out your problem exactly like he does you dont get credit. DONT TAKE
Great teacher, very clear in transferring the material from his brain to yours, lots of homework but nothing impossible, homework not mandatory but it is strongly recommended if you want the tests and quizzes to be a breeze. 10/10 def would recommend best math teacher i've had in 16 years
Absolutely worthless as a professor. He goes through tests/quizzes looking to take points off, has a sarcastic demeanor, and unwilling to help. He said "I don't feel like doing any more problems" the day before the quiz and then says "I'll give you guys some problems tomorrow on your quiz, how's that?" Should tell you plenty about his "humor"
Not sure where to begin. If you can avoid taking him, by all means, do it. His tests are difficult (barely enough time to finish) and he believes that a C is a good grade, thus justifying his difficult tests even for people who study. Many students dropped after first test and his formatting is extremely difficult and borderline unreasonable.
I honestly dont know why people said hes tough. Yes his materials aint easy to understand but he is kind and the tests are easy. He doesnt require attendance and always gives extra credit on the tests. Moreover you only need 88% to get an A on his class. Id definitely take his class again if he ever teaches 1B tbh
