NEVER TAKE HIM, boring, extremely hard tests, takes roll, slide memorizing
He will go out of his way to help you, i never took art before and got an A
I love the way he ties music into art lessons, he is very interesting!
Extremely nice, extremely knowledgeable, cares very much about students!
He is really nice and always willing to help students, but is unclear at times
i slept evryday-and got an A-hes smart and easy going- just memorize all slides
Very unclear. Hardest professor to understand. Also very dorky.
Very helpful and very concerned about students performing well.
i slept through the 8 oclcok final til 9:30 and he let me finsih it...i got an A
very, very strange, but helpful, and knowledgeable about art
hes unclear, but at times its very amusing..and hes an easy grader
He is the nicest man in the world!!! He's always willing to help. just ask!
VERY unclear, not a good teaching style, memorize everything
OH so easy!!!
papers were easy to write - good teacher but boring subject at times
very kind, approachable, willing to help out students, wants you to do well...
Cutest old man you could ever want to meet. So sweet, interesting class. yay!
I loved him! He was really nice and approachable.
Mr. Maddox is the best! He is the sweetest man ever and always willing to help... he just might worry about your grade more than you do! He loves what he is teaching, and it shows... take this class
SO precious! he REALLY wants you to do well and be his friend... take him and ask for help
nice man, must understand information not just memorize, helpful to students anyway possible, stutters a lot so difficult to follow sometimes, all in all great, must take if you really want to learn
The most boring teacher i've ever had
subject is boring to not an art person but he is a very kind and wants you to do well in his class, he is a great guy
I'm an art major and i thought this class was horrible. Cannot understand what he says- uses ancient terminology, stutters, and doesnt project his voice. He's a very nice man but, last class half of us were asleep.
While obviously very passionate and knowledgable about the subject matter, he still manages to drain the life out of the class and efficiently put you to sleep. Grade based on 2 papers, 2 quizes, and 2 exams.
He is a nice man but does not talk loud and rarely repeats things if you miss what he is saying. I am not an Art History major and I was able to get a B in this class. Not that bad
This prof is one of the nicest people I've ever met! Unfortunately he's not the best lecturer, but he's always willing to help and not too hard a grader.
I loved this class. Maddox is extremely intelligent and is very passionate about the subject. I would definitely recommend him!
definitely a boring class and rigid attendence policy, take some notes, and GO TO THE REVIEW SESSION BEFORE TESTS, he tells you exactly what is on it, pretty easy grader on tests and papers, but you'll need smelling salts to stay awake
One of my favorite teachers ever! Incredibly educated, funny, eloquent, nice, and interesting. Reading the text is important, and sometimes talks quickly. But if you really listen and go to class, you WILL learn more about art than you thought you could
such a nice guy....he loves art and loves teaching. he gets really into his lectures. papers not too hard, tests are easy if you go to review sessions
okay so yeah the class is pretty boring and he rambles a lot, but i've slept through most classes and as long as you go to the review sessions you'll be fine.
class was extremely boring! didn't listen to him in class or read the book and I could still get an A. he would tell you exactly what to study for. he was always willing to help...use him! the tricky part of his class was the essays.
Class is fun if you like art history. He's very smart, but I think he has a bit of diffuculty talking in front of the class. He knows a lot about art, especially stuff after 1500. Good guy and class isnt too hard. Takes attendance with sheet.
He is nice but kind of spacey. He is interested in what he's teaching but I dont think he was an art history teacher before this semester. he talks too fast and is unclear about what he's talking about. doesnt seem to be a hard grader though.
Easy class. So helpful just go to him. Seems like a lot of work, but not really. Just make sure you go to his reviews and follow his review sheet. He tells you exactly what will be on the test and memorizing is less compared to most GARTH classes.
He is a great prof. Knows what he is talking about for the most part. Willing to help you out. Pretty easy grader. Just have to study and learn the material. If unsure, ask him. would recomend taking him for this class. He can be a little confussing and spacing, but he is really enthusiastic
Horrible professor. You cannot understand him at all becuase he has vision problems and he has trouble focusing. He mummbles so you can't even take notes. Avoid him at all costs!!!
TERRIBLE!! don't take him! nice guy, but HORRIBLE teacher! he mumbles all the time and speaks so fast you cant write down anything he says. he always messed up the slides and didnt give test info till the last second
Professor Maddox is a very unique guy. Although you can't understand much of what he says and notes are hard to take, he is willing to help you and extend deadlines at any cost. He provides you with everything you need to take the test including the test questions. Easy B if you do your work.
Enthusiastic yet confusing. I'm convinced he's in his own world at times. His class is the type where you sweat the whole semester but end up getting an A at the end. Just regurgitate what he says in class on the quizzes/exams and you'll be fine. Get ready to memorize over 100 paintings, though.
It was his first time teaching 205 and he didn't know in advance that he was so he was very unorganized for our class. I'm sure he'll be better next semester though. Nice guy, willing to help you out on everything.
Really nice guy, tests are average, but you know what is going to be on them. The classes are tough to get through because it's art history, but he is enthusiastic and loves the material. Take him
mr maddox is really great! hes spacy and weird but hes so helpful and easy! he tell you exactly what you need to know, and if you dont know something on a test, he'll tell you the answer. 2 papers...very very easy! take him!!
If you can, get this guy. Art history in general is a terrible, evil class from the depths of hell. However, Maddox makes it very clear what will be on the tests, and what he expects you to write about. I did practically nothing and got an A.
Kinda weird guy, but silly and fun. Hes very knowledgeable, and I like that fact that he doesnt really assign any work. I probably did 2 hours of studying/writing all semester, but I screwed up on the first test and got a 60...that hurt my grade because there are only two tests.
very good
If you must take this class then take his class, he's actually a good prof even though this class was satans making. Lots of memorization but if u just memorize the slides ur fine. Hes a sweet guy, he'll help if you need it, very lenient
This guy absolutely loves art history and that alone will make this class interesting and easy. It's a lot of memorization, but Dr Maddox is so so great. Go to his office atleast once, even if just to chat, he's a good guy and will remember your face. Answering questions (even if its wrong) is a good idea. He loves people who try.
he is an awesome teacher, very helpful, makes the lecture material interesting and exciting, very nice person
I got bored in his lectures, but he was so enamored with what he was teaching. Memorization of slides was key to success. I totally just went off the fly with my analysis essays, and he loved it!
you are seriously an idiot if you dont get an A in this class. There are 2 tests the whole semester and he tells you e EXACTLY whats going to be on them
He is soooo boring, his tests are easy and an easy grader for papers but soo boring he seems more like a science teacher than an art teacher...stay away
i was intimidated and ovewhelmed at first, dont be!he is a really nice guy, and grades VERY easily. its alot of memorization, but thats all you really have to do.lectures can be pretty boring, i slept most the time, and came out with an A.if you hate memorizing stuff and hate art, dont take this class.but it really isnt that hard.
nicest guy ever! sometimes rambles but in an aborable, entertaining way. very understanding and only cares about what the students will take away from the class. happy to work with each individual so that they may do their best. passionate and knowledgable about material, if you must take garth definitly take him.
The guy is nice, enthusiastic and I think he's some kind of genius. Unfortunately, all of the stuff he talks about really aren't the focus of the tests which are all slide and vocab memorization. It's really unfortunate because if the tests were on what he was talking about in class it'd be easier but it's not. Be careful about choosing this.
Lots of memorization, but he tells you pretty much what's on the slide tests... the other tests have a question bank that's kind of intense. He's very passionate about what he does. The subject matter might not be entertaining, but just listening to him talk is. Bring work for other classes to work on. Recommended: He puts his heart into it.
Dr.Maddox is the sweetest guy! Sure there's a lot of memorization but he really wants his students to do well and even gives you what's on the test ahead of time. The material's not too exciting but he's so passionate about his work that it made me more interest in it. If you have to take an art history class, definitely take his class!!!
Professor Maddox presents very interesting information in his lectures, but he is very hard to follow. He sings a lot and diverges even more. He is willing to talk with students, but that often doesn't clarify much. Overall I think he has good intentions and content, but is a little confusing.
i thought the class was going to be to stupid but he's really enthusiastic about what he teaches and SOOO helpfull. go to is office hours for help on writting papers and you'll get an A. he gave me an extension on a paper just so he could check over it for me a third time! also he tells you EVERYTHING that is going to be on each test and the fina
awesome guy- a little eccentric but it makes class interesting. very passionate about the material and he KNOWS his stuff. definately take him if you can for both 205 and 206.
Dr Maddox is one of the best teachers at JMU!!! He is so passionate about what he does and is a nice, genuine person. He is one of those teachers that wants you to do well. Has review sheets and makes a painful class, very painless.
I did not like him. He was very hard to follow, didnt discuss the actual artwork, just went off on random tangents. Makes it hard to learn the material when he doesnt even go over it in class. Tries to be funny, but it just doesnt work out. I wouldnt recommend him.
this class was extremely boring, a big waste of time having to go to it...he is kind of hard to understand and sometimes does weird stuff like sings out of nowhere....but overall he grades pretty easily, tells you whats going to be ont he tests, and is a very nice professor
Great person, and has a wonderful view on life. But his teaching is all over the place. He lectures start to finish, and listening becomes cumbersome. I never took notes, and he gives you all you need to know for the midterm and final with an excess of e-mails. Grading is great though--very lenient, and he loves creativity in a paper.
Incoherent spaz. If you want to know something about art history, take another professor. You won't do that here.
At first he may freak you out because he uses huge words, but once i got into the class i realized what an amazing and helpful teacher he was. He is a little crazy sometimes, but he knows what he is talking about and is always willing to go over your paper with you. He's amazing and hilarious, TAKE HIM hes a great teacher.
class is boring but hes a GREAT guy, just difficult to understand bc he talks so fast n taking notes is difficult. If u cn get over that, ur fine bc he literally tells u evry studyguide Q that will b on the quiz/test. DO THE STUDYGUIDES n go 2 office hours if u need answrs 2 qs. If u ask 4 help u WILL GET IT. he lovs helpng icant stress that enough
Plan on using every minute of class time-class is never canceled-which is ok because it goes by fast anyway. Allot of information is covered, and sometimes hard to take notes for, but only because he gets excited about what he's talking about and speeds up.Nice guy, professional and approachable.Doesn't assign anything without plenty of notice.
He lacks clarity/student involvement in his lectures and tends to send 5+ mass emails regarding every quiz, exam, or paper, ultimately confusing and complicating the process of figuring out what's necessary to know/do. He plays "related" music before tests (obnoxious!), rambles, and is NOT as good as other Art Hist Faculty. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!
You will know exactly what is going to be on all tests in quizzes. A lot of memorization. Grades first paper tough but the other two very easy. Classes are boring but you do not need to listen because he gives you study guide questions of what is going to be on the exams.
Mr. Maddox is a very nice person, but his teaching method was not right for me. He only lectures and never provides a power point for note-taking. His lectures are boring and many people fall asleep.
Unusual teaching method, very jumpy. A very nice guy though who will answer all your emails. He makes studying for tests, especially the midterm and final, extremely easy.
He's really nice and passionate about the subject...problem is the subject is really boring. Wayyy too much information to study for tests, but papers are easy to do well on. Would be better if he didn't lecture the entire class, but whatever. Take him and you should be able to pull a C/B with little effort.
Boooooring. And he is a bit... odd at times. But the class isn't too hard. He gives good study guides that tell you what you need to know for exams and the papers are easy. Not bad at all for a gened all in all... I got a good grade without too much trouble.
Hes not bad! I was really disappointed with the first few weeks of class because i couldn't fallow anything he was talking about (and I'm an art major) but go to his office hours and just talk with him. Hes REALLY smart and loves what he does!
VERY nice guy. However, very scattered and lectures all over the place. He gives a TON of information because he truly loves what he is teaching. Gets very boring - especially early in the morning. Avoid art history in general as a gened if possible... but if you take it Maddox is a nice prof and really cares about his students.
totally interested in the subject of art history, and explains it very well. He's very helpful in/outside of class, and gives you ALL the help you need with assignments, very fair grader. Kinda boring some of the time, but it's worth it when he sings, dances, makes funny voices, and just entertains the class. Best course I've taken at jmu yet.
Professor Maddox is such a sweetheart. He loves what he's teaching and really cares about all his students. Go to office hours and he will help you with anything!! Class can get boring and you have to memorize a ton of slides for the midterm and final...but he's completely worth taking.
oddball. but incredibly sweet. class seems intimidating at first, but hes an easy grader. got an A+ without difficulty.
Professor Maddox is such a nice guy! He truly cares about his students. He is pretty crazy, kind of out there, but always willing to help and clarify. 3 Papers, MIDTERM, FINAL, and two quizzes. I really enjoyed his class overall. Take him if you can!
BORING! Directions for a single project are dislocated and can be found broken up over 3-4 separate documents. A bunch of slides to memorize. He kind of spends the class talking to himself, off in his own little world.
Maddox is the man! His class is a little overwhelming at first but you eventually get in the groove of things and get settled in. He definitely gives you a new perspective on art and really cares. Such a great, unique guy! TAKE HIM!
Professor Maddox spends most of the class talking to himself. Unless you are an art history major, the class is extremely boring and hard to follow. There is A LOT of memorization, and, once again, if you're not an art history major, you probably won't care about what it's on. If you can avoid him, try and do so.
He's a nice guys but a poor teacher. There'd be no point in coming to and struggling through class if there wasnt a mandatory attendance policy (esp since he spends half the class talking about to himself about nothing important). Directions for a single assignment are spread out over multiple documents on Bb. If you can memorize, you'll do fine
maddox is one my favorite professors so far! all of the negative comments are completely false. he is totally approachable, easy to understand and loves his subject. the class is a lot of work, but if you put in the effort you can come out with an A.
Professor Maddox, though admittedly a weird guy, is an incredibly sweet and kind professor. He wants his students to succeed to an extreme degree and will go to incredible lengths for them to achieve that. Yes, the class has a lot of memorization, but he is flexible with wording and compared to other geneds is a fraction of the work. TAKE HIM!
Maddox is a sweet and intelligent man but can be a little too scatter-brained. He sometimes rambles on about unimportant facts instead of getting to the point about the importance of the slides. He is helpful and wants his students to do well. He is really funny and sometimes sings to the class. Lots of memorization. Overall a pretty good teacher.
He's a super sweet guy. extremely nice to everyone. hes so smart sometimes he looses himself in his random thoughts but it can be fun to listen to. you need the textbook for the study guides he gives you. the class can be boring but hey, its art history. he tells you exactly what might be on the test with the study guide with no surprises
Mr. Maddox is helpful and knows what he is teaching. He explains the material well if you pay attention which is tough as the class tends to get boring. If you like art I would take this class. If not, or are border line I wouldn't. Tons of memorization and studying for quizzes and exams and a couple essays which aren't bad. Overall just ok.
I was tricked into taking this class last semester based on the comments here. He is very passionate about the subject, but he def has ADD and cannot stay focused so the information is unclear. There is also a lot of pointless memorization for the exams (ie. knowing date/artist/title/location for 80 photos and only being asked about 6)
I really enjoyed this class. Professor Maddox is really nice and extremely helpful. You have to memorize a lot of things for his tests and there are two relatively big papers, so its not a complete breeze, but if you intend to take Art History and not die of sheer boredom, take it with Maddox.
If you are thinking about taking this class, don't. Turn around and start looking for Music or Theater classes. Unless you like art this class will be a pain. Tons of slides, vocab and study guide problems to know for exams and you end up only getting asked very few on the actual test. I was talked into taking it and I regret it big time.
i originally took this class because i am a visual learner. However I failed the first two test. However I went to meet with him and he really worked with me and now it is right before the final and I am hoping for a B. There is alot of material to learn and you dont even know if it will be on the test. The papers throughout the semester helped alo
Professor Maddox is very passionate about art history, and knows what he's talking about. He's also hilarious sometimes! There's a lot of memorization, but if you're interested in art, you won't mind the work too much. There are no surprises on quizzes or exams, he gives you all of the info beforehand and is always willing to help if you ask.
Loved this class! Not only did I learn about art (never took any art course before) but Maddox was a great prof! He was a little cooky sometimes & went off tangent but he was funny & VERY passionate about art. Tests were easy if you started studying early & were good at memorization. He was extremely helpful and would answer any question! TAKE HIM!
Interesting class if you like art but definitely not easy. If you're not very good at memorizing terms and art identifications you will not do well...just a warning. I had an A but then the final knocked me down to a B. If you study hard and like the material you will do okay.
Maddox is enthusiastic and wants his students to succeed. He's also really crazy (in a good way) but really confusing (in a bad way). Half the time I didn't know what to take notes on because he couldn't organize his thoughts (as smart as he is). Tests have a LOT of material, but excellent study guides so I memorized them and got an A.
This was the best class I've taken at JMU so far. He honestly is probably my favorite professor as well. Extremely passionate and goofy. There is little to no homework except the two papers and tests/quizzes. However, the tests and quizzes do take a lot of time and are very hard. Work hard on them and you'll get an A. I did! I learned a lot too
This class sucked so bad. He did not know how to organize his thoughts in any logical sense, and he was bat s**t crazy. If you must take this course I recommend taking a different professor. Lots of memorization, tests were difficult, and essays were also hard. Not fun at all.
Prof. Maddox is a great guy & you can tell he knows his stuff, but he can't organize his in thoughts in class. Sometimes he would be in the middle of a sentence & go off on a completely random thought in a different direction. class is boring, tests are really hard to study for, don't take this unless you're really interested in art history.
The class had so much material that you really should just skip it. He flies through the chapters and expects you to know every detail. If you're a good writer, he has no problem giving full credit on all the essays, and the quizzes and tests are OK if you absolutely overstudy the study guides and slides. Overall, too much work for a 3 credit class
Professor Maddox is a really nice guy, but his class sucks. Too much memorization is required and unless you're an art major, it won't ever be used in life. I had too much busiwork, more than any of my other classes, and this class did not contribute to my mjor. Overall I would say avoid this class.
I could have passed this class without even going. He flies through the material and doesn't even make sense. He goes off topic and won't finish his sentences before going on to his next thought. Had to memorize way to much! I had to teach myself everything. The test wasn't to bad because i overstudied. Essays are kinda hard.
The perfect example of the absent minded/goofy professor. Maddox is a highly knowledgeable guy when it comes to art. His quirkiness makes him difficult to understand at times, but after a little while you get used to it. He grades pretty well, but art history is just a really difficult course that i wouldn't recommend. A lot of memorization.
If you are motivated enough to do some work then this class really isn't that bad at all. His tests require you to memorize a lot of information and put in a lot of time, but I have learned so much this year. Maddox is so passionate about this class and his quirkiness is what keeps me awake during the class. And he says most students get A's!! :)
He is very disorganized and not very clear on what he talks about. I could have passed without going to one class, however attendance is mandatory. WAY to much memorizing for the tests even though they were not to hard. Essays were difficult but if you are down to teach yourself all the material and memorize a lottttt, its an easy A
i thought this class was really boring. you basically just stare at works of art all of class. he rambles on and it gets hard to follow. you get a midterm and final. there are also papers due. the longest was 5 pages i think....try writing 5 pages on a work of art. if you can, take this. oh and unless you think you can memorize 50+ images, go ahead
Very outgoing teacher, but thats what makes the class bearable. Very helpful when you ask for it, will guide you to an A on both of your essays.
Maddox is great. The class requires work, but if you want to do well you will! I highly suggest him! You wont be disappointed!
sitting through this mans class makes me want to kick him square in the genitals
Do not take this class. Exams are unnecessarily difficult and require you to memorize artist, date, location, name, style, medium, era and current location of over 55 images for each exam. All along with over 200 study guide questions and about 30 vocab words that you have never heard of. No partial credit is given. Worst class ive ever taken
Run Away Now! He's so disorganized! Lost my paper! I though Art History would be interesting, not! He only put pictures on powerpoint and rambles on about his personal life experiences. Sings opra in class all the time. Exams are ridiculously hard, try memorizing 70+ pictures and only 5 show up on the exam. Brings your GPA down! Run Away Now!
I thought I was going to hate this class but Maddox is lively and interesting. He tells you exactly what to study for his quizzes and tests. It requires a bit of work but it's completely doable. Follow his guidelines and it's an easy class. Use his office hours for essays or concept clarification - he'll tell you everything you need to know to pass
Love this guy! I took him for 205 and 206. He makes boring material interesting, just by being lively and entertaining. Talk to him, go to his office hours, he really loves that and will be helpful. Lays everything out to study before tests and quizzes. The tests cover A LOT of material though. Definitely need to study.
The material for this class is super boring but Mr Maddox totallly knows his stuff and gets into it which helps a lot. He's more than happy to assist students who reach out for extra help and will tell you what you need to know for tests if you ask. I took this during a maymester and it was pretty simple, just make sure you study hard for tests.
I would not take another class from him. He is extremely confusing. He breaks out into song randomly. We once spent 20 minutes chasing a mouse around the class. Avoid!
Take his class! As long as you read the book and follow all of the organized instructions that he always emails us you will do fine! There is a lot of memorization and a good amount of writing but he is very clear about it all so as long as you study you will do well! His lectures can be boring sometimes but he is very interesting and unique!
He can sometimes get off topic in class, but he knows what he is talking about. Read the text, do the study guides, ask him if you need help and you'll be golden. He only wants the best for you! 5 or so prompts that require 2 paragraphs max, quizzes are naming info about art, midterm and final are quizzes + short answers and an essay.
Really nice guy. He is a little eccentric but in a good way. He wants to help and definitely knows his stuff. He has had a lot of life experience which adds to his lectures. Art history is inherently boring for most people, but Mr. Maddox's lecturing style and random song and dance will keep you laughing
Not going to lie, this class requires a lot of time and dedication compared to other gen eds, but it's well worth it! Mr. Maddox has a lot of knowledge and experience for this course and he genuinely wants his students to succeed. It's A LOT of memorization and keeping up with the text, but his instructions are very clear.
All art history classes require memorization, so it isn't just Maddox. He's very nice and wants you to do well, but it will require work. His focus is less on the specific works and more about the general history, and although his lectures feel random, he prepares you for his test questions. Study for the tests; reading consistently is optional.
Maddox is a sweet guy, but his exam standards are way too high for a GenEd. Midterm is 25% of your final grade and he makes you study 50 different pieces of art and only 8 are on the test. Prompts are simple- usually just a paragraph long of your opinion. Paper was pretty easy, too. Quizzes are difficult; begin studying early. Destroys your GPA.
Maddox is super helpful, he gives you study guides for exams and grades so easily on papers. If you go to class, pay attention, and put effort into studying and writing your papers... It's not hard to get an A, just don't study the night before and you'll be golden.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Professor Maddox! It was a phenomenal class full of interesting information. He definitely knows his stuff. You have to write two papers, take two quizzes, a midterm and a final. I have a near perfect grade and even if I didn't, I still would love this class. My absolute favorite professor. Approachable and fun. TAKE HIM
Maddox is great. He makes the class very straightforward and everything is clearly written on Canvas. There are 2 tests-the midterm and final, 2-3 papers, and 2 quizzes. Studying takes time, but it's doable. He posts study guides (answers are verbatim in textbook) and if you spend the time on them, you can easily get an A. Great class! Take him!
Maddox seems like an amazing guy, however this class is made so unnecessarily difficult it pains me. For a GenEd, I had to just as much for his test as I did for a Human Anatomy Test. Maddox gives great instructions and is helpful and clear, but the sheer amount of information you are given to straight memorize is insane. GPA destroyer.
Class is very tough and the lectures are boring, but Maddox is a wonderful professor. The quizzes and tests are extremely difficult. Tons of memorization. The essays are really easily graded but long. He gives ample chances to bring up your grade. I did awful on the quizzes and midterm, failed them, but with the essays, A's, and final got a B.
I never knew what he was talking about and didnt pay attention to lectures but he's sweet, EXTREAMLY passionate, and funny. Easy if you're willing to put in work. You can't cram in one night, need to take time to study. Tells you exactly whats on testsquizzzes . You can talk to him about anything and everything and he's real helpful.
Mr. Maddox is a very nice man who was quite funny on occasion. However, his lectures were hard to follow and all over the place. The assignments consisted of 2 major essays, 2 quizzes, and the midterm and final. Both the midterm and final took hours and hours of studying works of art. Overall, the class wasn't horrible, but I wouldn't recommend.
Mr. Maddox is a real sweetheart. He is so passionate and helpful if you are willing to go to office hours. However, if you have no interest whatsoever in art or art history, DO NOT take this class. It is hard to connect with the material if you're just simply not interested.
Maddox was a great professor. Very quirky and made the material interesting. The papers weren't too bad, but tests were challenging. Really liked this class overall and I'd definitely take Professor Maddox again.
Professor Maddox is a great guy and truly wants you to get a good grade but makes that very hard to do. I studied 3 days straight for the final and still barely passed. If you're not interested in art history, taking this class will hurt you. GPA destroyer. Asks way too much of a poor freshman like me just trying to get through some GenEds.
My biggest complaint about Mr. Maddox was the contradictory nature of his lectures vs. his testsquizzes. During lecture he was never concerned with the specific dates and names of the artists or works but on the quizzes and tests that's what was asked to spit back out. As an art history minor it was difficult to understand what he was looking for.
As a person - Maddox is very nice. He's easy to talk to and very enthusiastic. As a professor; he tends to ramble, gets off track easily, and assigns long essays. Difficult to pay attention in lectures. I am the first to admit that I am not the greatest test taker but I studied probably 20 hours for the midterm and only got a C. Never again.
Quizzes (2 & tests (2) are straight forward: Definitions, then MDID pictures (ID, date, location, style), short answer, & 1 long answer (gives several options to choose from). Both short & long answer were straight from his studyguide. His class looks scary at first, but he's the NICEST MAN ALIVE & so willing to help. Easy A if you put in the work.
Great guy, wants to help you. The class is hard. He helped more with writing skills than anything, the papers took considerable time and effort but you'll get an A if you actually try. Tests are very very hard unless you study like hell, the class material isn't important really all you need are study guides and many hours to study
Mr. Maddox is truly a sweet guy, but his class is incredibly difficult. He talks about wanting you to focus on interpretation of art, but pure memorization is the only thing that will help you do well in this class.
Professor Maddox is a really nice person, but his class is difficult to follow and he jumps around fast and understanding the way he talks is difficult. He expects you to memorize way more information than what is needed for the tests. Very hard final. Good luck, I don't recommend taking this class.
His tests are impossible but really tries to help students if the ask. The material is dry and uninteresting but Maddox's quirks keeps the class somewhat interesting.
He so incredibly passionate about what he teaches, I often times find myself moved by his lectures. I would strongly recommend him for those that are Art or Art History majors or anyone generally interested in the subject. Expect to work to get a good grade, but it really is worth it. Left the class actually feeling like I learned.
Professor Maddox is a little goofy but overall he is my favorite teacher at JMU. His exams aren't easy but he provides you will all the resources you need to pass, you just need to put in the effort. He is always willing to help you if you're lost and gives an extra credit opportunity. I would definitely take him again.
very confusing. He says that he is teaching the class with the understanding that it is a Gen Ed but he doesn't. He moves quickly and doesn't explain what he is talking about. He does give an extra credit essay but A lot of useless memorizing for example, for the midterm you need to memorize 150+ images/ terms for a 50 question test. DO NOT TAKE
Do not take unless you want to rant about how much you don't like the class. The only reason people pass the class is because he offers extra credit which boosts your grade immensely. Get ready to memorize over 100 paintings while only getting tested on 5 for each test. If you ask questions, he says to look in the book. DO NOT TAKE.
Really sweet professor but requires you to know ABSOLUTELY TOO MUCH information if you are just taking this for a gen ed!!
Dr. Maddox is a witty and animated professor. His teaching skills are questionable, though. Lectures are all over the place and I don't know what to do with that information. If you did poorly on the midterm, he'll likely assign you an essay for extra credit. Do well on that, and your test and overall scores will improve tenfold.
Prof Maddox is awesome! Although he may go on tangents, he's fairly clear about which parts of the lecture are important (he'll often repeat himself or tell you to make a note of something). Tests are easy if you put in the time and effort to study. He provides study guides for exams and gives extra credit as well. Totally recommend him!
Maddox is a very sweet man and cares about the success of his students. However, the class is not easy and does require a lot of studying for exams. I would advise against taking this class unless you're willing to put in a lot of work. Lectures are dry and boring. Attendance is mandatory.
Lectures are sometimes very vague and don't match the content that is on the quizzes and tests. Reading the textbook and studying on your own is important. He has a lot of energy and tries to keep things interesting.
Mr. Maddox has so much passion for art history and as an art history major, I loved his class. He gives two quizzes, a midterm and a final. You have to really read and study on your own to do well on these since his lectures can be all over the place. He also gives two papers which are fairly easy.
MDID, essays, and the study guides on Canvas are your best friends. If several did poorly on the midterm, he'll assign an extra credit essay which will definitely improve your grades in the long run. I had a D+ after midterms and, to my surprise, ended with an A- after the semester. Sometimes, during midterms and finals, he gives you obvious hints.
my absolute fav professor. inspired me to become an art history major!
My advice is don't take unless you are an Art History major. His lectures are very boring (it's art) and they are all over the place so it's tough to take notes. He's a pretty easy grader on essays. The most annoying thing is his lack of ability to teach. You'll have to rely heavily on the textbook for this class.
Prof. Maddox is a really cool guy. However, his lectures are all over the place to the point where I don't even take notes at this point. He gives a few easy assignments, but then his midterm and final are ridiculous. All the learning is done outside the classroom. Wayyyyy too hard for a simple GenEd. DO NOT TAKE.
Ok 1) this class is very difficult and 2) but if you are willing to work really hard it is super rewarding. I'll be the first to admit Prof. Maddox's lectures are all over the place, but if you listen carefully he gives good info. Canvas docs are your best friend, esp. for writing papers and studying for midterm and final. Helpful in office hours.
Professor Maddox is insanely nice and is more than willing to help you succeed when available. His lectures are scatterbrained though and he will hold you to a high expectation for a Gen Ed. Reading and Study guides will help you do well on Quizzes and Tests and speaking with him will help with your essays. Also get ready to memorize a lot.
Maddox is one of the nicest guys ever and really really sweet and cares about art history so much. He's kind of really crazy though his lectures are hard to follow and kind of boring (just because there hard to follow) but hes so passionate about everything and says funny stuff and sings and dances every class. Mid term and final are hard.
Professor Maddox is super kind, understanding, and funny at times. He is very caring for his students and their grades. This class is difficult but he is always there to help. Not to mention his essays boost your grade up which balances out the difficult midterm and final. He is a very lenient grader on his essays.
If you're just looking to take Maddox's ARTH to knock off a Gen Ed (that is, if art/art history is outside of your interest), I wouldn't recommend him. However, if you ARE into art (history) and willing to do the work (reading, memorization, essays, and an (!)open mind), Maddox is your guy. Funny, helpful, and passionate about art history.
Ok, Mr Maddox is a really cool guy. But when it comes to teaching, he just was not for me. His Midterm and Final extremely difficult and you end up having to memorize 150+ works of art... for a very small test. Although he is very easy on the essays, it is just to make up for the insanely difficult tests. His lectures are also impossible to follow
Maddox is great guy, but do not take him if you're looking for an easy A. He will make you work for it. I'm an ARTH student so I found this class to be wonderful. He's super sweet and the information I learned was extremely interesting. (He's also pretty cute too)
Maddox was an interesting character to say the least. He is very passionate about art and likes to talk about it. His exams are very difficult, but the essay grades will redeem your average. This is not a class to take if you are looking for an easy A.
one of the nicest people you will ever meet. so passionate about life and seeing students succeed and grow. honestly, get the book at your discretion. def helpful, but not vital. makes you work for your grade but show up and pay attention and you will do well. lectures are long and boring, but he will sing and dance to keep it fun
Mr. Maddox is such a sweet man who really cares about his students. While his lectures are hard to follow, I would heavily suggest getting the textbook as it will help keep you on track. He has multiple essays he assigns that are super easy, as well as alternatives to some essays. The quizzes and tests you definitely have to study for.
Super nice guy who really cares about his students and their success. His lectures are really boring at times and really hard to follow because he tends to get off topic VERY often but there's about 5 essays and he grades them super easily. Rare quizzes and not hard. I studied for the midterm for maybe an hour and I got a solid 86. not mad.
You better hope you have friends in class or you make some because 80% of these lectures are UNBEARABLE. I have a 90 in this class currently and i've opened the textbook maybe twice. i should've taken a different gen ed in this cluster because this class is just unnecessary work. maddox is a cool guy- all over the place though.
You will have to write many papers on very boring artworks and they have to be well written. For quizzes and tests you have to memorize all the information about the art works- artist, location, title, year and theres no word bank or any matching its just putting up a picture and you give the info. Extremely hard and boring class
Maddox is an amazing guy, funny and cares about his students. however, he makes the class so much harder than it needs to be. most of the semester it seems pretty easy, but the midterm and final are absolutely impossible. for the midterm he gave us 47 different art works to memorize and there were only 5 on the exam.
DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOKS. I got an A in this class without reading either of them. Half of the exams Q's are on quizlet. You have to study for the tests, but if you study hard the night before you'll do fine. The only nights I worked on stuff for this class were the nights right before tests/papers were due, so it's kind of like an online class.
He is one of the nicest professors I've ever had and hands down is my favourite at JMU. He really cares about his students, is super passionate about his work, and is hilarious.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. 1) half the time I didn't understand what he was teaching because he moves very quickly and makes weird noises in between descriptions. 2) the grading criteria is not clear so you are left guessing on what he wants for the papers. 3) you have to memorize over 40 paintings... and only 4 are on the exam.
Professor Maddox is super quirky. He loves what he does and he's super unique and funny. The tests are from a slideshow of art he gives you and he'll select like 10-20 depending on the test and you have to know the title, artist, style, and date. Then there's a vocab section. It's really straightforward but a lot to learn.
Maddox is absolutely amazing. His class is very hard and requires a lot of work but seriously his lectures are amazing and if you try, he will prepare you for everything. Every quiz and test he tells you what will be on it and what to study and is always very helpful if you're struggling. His lectures are really goofy and hes very entertaining
Super hard class but Maddox is willing to help. I went to his office hours a lot and he gave me extra credit opportunities. He is one of the nicest teachers ever and makes a difficult class not so bad. Cramming the night before is the best way to go.
Maddox genuinely cares about each one of his students and is a pretty cool guy. His lectures can be a bit disorganized & hard to follow, but the only time I really ever had to do work for this class was the papers, the midterm & the final. Grades papers very easy & gives lots of partial credit on exams, but you definitely have to study a lot.
There are surprise writing assignments and then the midterm and final. Start studying for these before the class even starts. He asks you for the artist, title, year, and location of 5 artworks for the midterm and 10 for the final as well as definitions. For the identifications, he doesn't tell you what he is going to ask, so study everything!
By FAR one of the most caring professors I've ever had but this class is entirely memorization. If you're willing to put in the effort to study the study guides and if you utilize rubrics given to you you will be fine, but both final and midterm weren't multiple choice and you're memorizing 75+ images and short answer questions. Didn't use textbook
I really love Maddox. He cares about his students' success and his grading is pretty lenient. Every class is only lecture, but he gives information for the exam not in the book. Like 5 papers, 2 quizzes, a midterm and final are the only grades. He gave an extra credit to average with the midterm. Be prepared to memorize a ton of information.
One of a kind. He is the most caring professor EVER and wants his students to do well. He is willing to go the extra 100 miles for you and gives you a ton of extra credit. His lectures are seriously disorganized and you probably wont get much from them, but follow directions on assignments as he says and you will get an easy 100. Easy grader.
Okay Maddox is an AMAZING person, but a TERRIBLE professor... His exams are OUT OF THIS WORLLDDDD DUDE I had to study 60 pictures (Title, Artist, date & country) 40 definitions, 4 whole essays, and over 80 short answer Q's for final...... dude, seriously it's a gen ed... He's good with extra credit but why willingly sign yourself up for that. Next
Not a great professor. Can't understand what he is saying most of the time as he mumbles a lot. He is clearly passionate about art but his assignments lack clear guidelines and grading criteria. Tests are far too much work for a gen-ed class. Don't take the class unless you're really into art.
This man is the weirdest professor I have ever had. He makes no sense during his lectures and often goes on off topic tangents. The tests and quizzes are HARD because you have to memorize paintings. Despite this class being hard attendance is pointless because what he lectures about are not on tests, although you only get 3 absences. I WOULD AVOID!
Maddox is a genuinely nice man, as he really wants you to do well. But he is very scattered in his lectures and his tests are mainly memorization which is hard for paintings. Go to his office hours and he will help your write papers and even give you chances to re-do them. Hes nice, but not great at lecturing and you NEED the book.
Okay, he's a nice guy and all but he is extremely unaware of everything he is doing and how he is affecting his students with his assignments. He only lectures, no point in even trying to ask a question and he goes so fast you dont understand anything he is saying. His midterm/final are impossible DO NOT TAKE!
Look, Charles Maddox is a solid guy, but a horrendous professor. His lectures are pointless, consistently start 5+ mins late, all over the place. Just to show how out of tune he is with his students, one class I had my hand raised for 10 mins and he didn't even notice. The exams are outrageous, he gives you a haystack to study but a needle to test.
An interesting professor, but truly passionate about art and teaching. The class was extremely difficult for a gened. The final is 30% of your grade, although most of what is expected of you is given to you in advance for preparation, BUT it's A LOT of material. 60+ artworks to memorize, study guide questions, multiple essays on both exams.
An interesting person to say the least. However, lectures are EXTREMELY boring, I zoned out 90% of the time. You have to be good at memorizing things in order to do well on the exams because oh my god, the amount of information you have to know is ridiculous. Essays are easy if you pay attention to how he talks about art, then you mimic that.
HILARIOUS. I actually looked forward to coming to class he made things so interesting but sometimes would go off in tangents. He gives you almost everything you need to know for tests with handouts and hints, and offers extra credit for those who don't do well on them. Small paper assignments on the side also boost your grade.
He's such a kind soul, but I could not for the life of me pay attention in class. He speaks very fast and monotone, and will spend most of the class on a tangent. There is an ungodly amount of information to know for each test, and he asks very specific questions. You will not pass the class without reading and studying.
Yea have fun, this class was awful from the start. he's super boring but is a very nice man. He does care about his students and their grade but it doesn't matter because there's an insane amount of info to remember for the tests and quizzes.
Maddox is an okay professor, but he genuinely loves the subject he teaches and that's very obvious. However, it's more of a teach yourself from the textbook and get the info reinforced by the lectures. Also, he is very scatterbrained and it's easy for him to get off topic. Sometimes you don't know if what he's saying is important for class or not.
very unique and unlike any other professor I've had. Maddox is a very intelligent, surprisingly spritely man. Remembers personal details about his students, loves what he teaches and his job, recognizes that not everyone is a "test taker." would definitely recommend.
Maddox was one of the most boring professors I have ever had. He would stare at the board and mutter his opinions about every piece of art. he expects you to know as much about art history as he does. the lectures were a waste of my time and this is the weirdest guy I have ever met. do not take arth or maddox ever.
Charles Maddox is the craziest, most unfair, delusional professor, I have ever had. He requires so much memorization and it is honestly unfair. I don't think he realizes we have other classes and activities to focus on. His final is all written: vocabulary, artwork information, short answer, and two essay questions. Charles is a complete lunatic.
Maddox is a very quirky man. His lectures can be all over the place, but its obvious he cares about his students and the material he is teaching. I honestly did not pay much attention in his class, but the week before final and midterm, he set up a lesson with one of his former students which helped tremendously.
Maddoxs class has a lot of information, but just like any other class, it takes organization to do well. If you leave studying off until the last minute of course you will feel overwhelmed and not do well!! Maddox does very well at preparing his students. He has the biggest heart and genuinely wants to see all his students do well and succeed.
I personally loved him. He loves what he does and wants everyone to succeed. He's quirky and his lectures can be a little all over the place. I don't recommend you take this class if you are taking 16+ credits, there's A LOT of memorization. However, he does give you all of the possible questions for exams on day one: this is your key to success.
Prof Maddox cares a lot about his students and material. Granted, lectures can be a little hard to follow, and the textbook is droning. But if you can get through them and play along, you will do well. He gives study guides and tells you what the exam will be like. He is flexible and caring, and so passionate in his lectures. Not a bad choice
This man is WILD. There was one day he barked and meowed at us, instead of just drinking water he'd lean his head back and gargle it, and he danced around sometimes. Definitely an interesting guy, and very passionate about art, but taking this as a gen ed was not a good idea. His class is based around memorization and a few essays.
Avoid prof Maddox if you can. His reviews on here are accurate. He has very unclear grading criteria and will tank your grade if he doesn't like you. He also takes attendance every class and you only get like two skips. His lectures don't make any sense and he is super boring.
Look, this guy is weird, but he's very caring and wants his students to do well. His lectures are boring bc the material is boring. The midterm and final make up most of your grade and seem impossible, but if you study and try your best you'll be fine. He's very understanding too! If you need this class for a gen-ed, you will be fine with Maddox.
Mr. Maddox truly cares about his students and is an inspiring professor. He's very passionate which makes the class super fun and engaging. I highly recommend if you're a decent writer and are willing to put forth effort. He will give extra credit on exams and essays if you provide good detail and reference the textbook/lectures.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR FOR A GENED, YOU WILL HATE YOUR LIFE!!!! I'm currently taking my final exam and I am crying. The amount of time and effort you have put into to get a good grade is RIDICULOUS. I am genuinely so upset I took this class. It is hard for no reason. :'''(
I dropped this class right before the final because it was an insane amount of work. His lectures were impossible to pay attention to because it was just slides of art and him narrating in the background. If this class was in person I'm sure I would have had a better experience, but unfortunately we all got screwed over this semester.
this class isn't easy by any means, def don't take if you're looking for an easy A in a gen ed, the lectures are hard to follow along with since it's just pictures of artwork and him talking about them, def need the textbook but for the final and midterm he told us the exact questions that would be on it and we could prepare beforehand
This class is definitely not a class to take if you are not willing to put in the work. You have study and write one paper other than that the class is not bad at all and Professor Maddox is very nice and I recommend meeting with him during his office hours.
Professor Maddox is one of the best professors at JMU. While his class may not be the easiest, as demonstrated by the rest of the responses, it is enlightening and worthwhile.
Lectures are a nightmare to follow along with, he will often start saying oh this is really important you will need to know this then will go off on a tangent and start singing. The tests are very memorization heavy but it feels like most of the class I spend trying to decipher what's a tangent and what's relevant information. not for science ppl
Mr. Maddox is quite eccentric, so if you're looking for someone unique definitely take his class. His lectures are SO boring, however, and he goes off on a lot of unrelated tangents. There's minimal participation and he's a nice dude but sitting through his classes is painful. You have to study A LOT to do well.
Prof. Maddox is really honest with you when he tells you to read the textbook. He grades you harshly but he always offers extra credit on his midterm and final exam. The only thing he requires of you is to look at the study guides he posts and read about them in the textbook. If you get a 50% on the midterm you can still get an A in the class.
His lectures don't make sense! The tests are all free response and the study guides are over 70 questions that you have to study and memorize to do well. And even that information isn't given in class! Also, attendance is taken out of your grade even when you're sick. Keep in mind we're still in the pandemic.
Mr. Maddox is one of the most confusing proffesors on this campus. He lectures the entire class on hundreds of paintings and then expects you to memorize them for the tests knowing the name, author, date and place they were created. He claims there are materials on canvas but you cant find anything. Save yourself the time and don't take the class.
Lectures are impossible to follow and constantly get side tracked. Extremely tough grader with lofty expectations and unrealistic writing standards for a gen ed.
what can I say about this course. firstly, you will have around 6 assignments (including midterm and final) and that's all. it is possible to do well if you want to do well in this course, you have to become as excited about the art as he is. go to class because he is such an interesting man. read the book, too. he really loves his students.
Took this course to complete an easy Gen Ed credit. Boy was I wrong. If you do not want to devote countless hours of your life to a worthless gen ed credit DO NOT take this class. I found this class to be way harder than it needed to be. Professor had to curve the midterm grade by thirty points just so a majority of the class could still pass.
Lectures are have no direction, just talking, no tech, just notebooks allowed, no Powerpoints to guide, so you get lost. Attendance counts. Lots of info to study, so study WEEKS ahead of the exam, Quizlet helps. 2 exams are all short answer. 1 major essay; 2 minor assignments. He's generous with points on the assignments and exams.
I usually never struggle with courses but this class was HARD. The material itself wasn't difficult more that there is NO direction to his lectures. it will be him lecturing then getting so side tracked to the point that I lost what he was originally trying to say. it wasn't just me either the ENTIRE class failed the midterm he had to curve by 10+.
Maddox is lowkey kinda chill and his lectures are pretty boring but like it's prehistoric art so you can't really expect much unless you're into it. The class itself is hard but if you put the work in he'll definitely help you out
I put blood, sweat, tears, and traded away my firstborn child to a witch just to pass this class and all I got was a B.
Professor Maddox is very passionate about the subject, but his teaching style is terrible. The lectures have no structure, no powerpoints to look back on, he gets sidetracked easily, and he rambles a lot so it's hard to take notes. The average grade for the mid-term in my class was a 40 so that has to tell you something. Don't take if you want an A
P. Maddox is one of the kindest professors I have had at JMU. However, I found this gened course to be difficult because of the amount of information you are expected to retain. The lectures are disorganized and the guides for the exams are not helpful because he expects you to memorize so many things and only puts a few on the actual exams.
This professor is blantantly racist as well as derogatory to anyone who is not an 'expert'. He expects every student to have a deep knowledge in Art, yet the class he is teaching is for General Education credit. Do not take, if you can.
Rude, entitled professor. Doesn't respect students or understand that he is teaching general education. Should be fired as he used derogatory terms to describe me racially.
He often went off topic and it was hard to tell what was important to know. He also has no notes on his sideshow so you have to listen to what he says. He is a very nice guy and loves to talk, he is very understanding and his class is easy to do well in. However, there are a lot of things to memorize.
The professor has specific teaching methods, though they can be disorganized. Engage with the material, use the free textbook, and consider tools like Unstuckstudy ai alongside other study aids. It's a challenging course, but manageable with effort.
He is a nice guy, but he is very old fashioned. The tests are difficult but if you lock in and study hard, you should be able to get at least a C. He gives a lot of extra credit because he does want you to succeed which is nice. His lectures are very boring and he gets side tracked a lot, but if you can just study hard, you'll be fine.
Nice person, not a good professor. Gives study guides for exams but usually sends them as emails months prior instead of just posting on canvas. Study guides include an unfair amount of material, and most of it isnt taught. He spends most of class admiring works of art instead of teaching exam materials. One bad exam ruins your grade for semester
This class has the most impossible expectation of material to know for a final I have ever seen. 50 paintings to memorize title author date and location, 30 vocab terms, a list of 50+ "study guide questions" that tells you what to know, but nowhere to find it because it wasn't taught + isn't on canvas, and 3 essay questions. Do not take this class
Mr. Maddox is a nice guy, but he's not the best professor. During lectures, he often gets sidetracked and will just ramble on about paintings. He also speaks really fast so it's hard to take notes. There are 3 essays, the midterm, and the final. Although he's an easy grader, he treats it like it's a 400 level class. Avoid taking if you can.
Nice enough guy by all means, but is disorganized. His canvas is incredibly messy and convoluted, and the readings are long and tedious along with the study guide questions. Don't take this class, but if you're hellbent, then my best advice would be to study the vocab, pay attention to the paintings in the lecture, and do the extra credit.
This class was very content heavy, especially content that you have to learn outside of class (as most exam content is not taught in class) The lectures were often disorganized and unclear of what you had to know. Maddox is a nice man, but I think that he treats this class a little too serious for Gen ED. Take if you like art, if not steer clear.
his lectures were very disorganized and never stayed on track so it was very difficult to understand the material. would not recommend if you don't like art history because i learned nothing
This class is very lecture heavy, and they were very unorganized and hard to follow. The tests were extremely difficult, but he has an extra credit assignment that boost your grade significantly. He really cares about what he is teaching, and is a nice guy, but his lecture style makes it difficult to do well in the class.
Lectures were very unorganized and not clear on what you needed to know. There were almost no assignments other than the 2 exams. Most of the material on exams needed to be learned outside of class. Do not take if you are not interested in Art History, he teaches it like you are majoring in it.
Although he rambles on during his lectures, pay attention to the posted study guides he posts, you should be alright once he gets to those sections. Tests are centered around the study guides & offers a ton of extra credits & curves grades when applicable. There is one 5 page major essay which was fairly simple depending on your chosen topic.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. Professor Maddox is so sweet, but exams are harder than they need to be. You have to memorize things like the name, artist, date, and location of 48 artworks for 5 to show up on the exam for a small portion of credit. I have had more crashouts than you could imagine. If you want to keep your sanity don't take this course.
Just rambles to himself the entire lecture
If you don't like art, don't take the class. It's not just a GenEd because Art History is a major in JMU as well. That being said, he does ramble somewhat during lectures, but he's a caring professor and easy to talk to. Lots of handouts that you might not need if you're taking this as a GenEd.
Mr. Maddox himself is clearly a very genuine and caring person but as a professor, a combination of mumbling or just straight up not even knowing/understanding what he is saying making an already super boring lecture insufferable. Very few grades as well making exams huge chunks. He's great as a person but his teaching style is outdated.
As a professor, he cares, and he makes it known. His lecture is however very dry, try to take notes on the culture and not on the art work. The midterm and final are the majority of the work. The essay in the middle is very easy.
